Beach House is always a delight

listened to again like you fell asleep on a couch with a waterfront view

Ethereal, nostalgic

Very nice. I liked "Zebra" a lot in particular.

Pretty good 2010's Indie rock. It starts out very strong, though it slips a little in the back half. If it had maintained the same level of quality as it did for the first 5 or so songs it would have been a 5.

Never heard of Beach House, but this was surprisingly quite good

Schön! Gfallt mer.

i've been wanting to listen to this for a while so i'm glad i got it. i already know silver soul, it's so good zebra is good silver soul makes me feel so... walk in the park :(((( lover of mine im kind of levitating better times the running around part bro i really like how take care sounds like silver soul but different

Lowkey great for a day driving along the coast.

Chill vibes, very cool.

Smmmmooooothhhh....

Good album for background music

Standouts- "Zebra," "Norway," "Used To Be," "Better Times," Lyrics/Vocals- 4/5 Instrumentals- 4/5 Vibes- 4/5 Overall- 4/5 I really enjoyed this album. It was a very calm, dreampop sound that sounded straight out of a 2010s indie movie. The lyrics conveyed such strong emotions in a beautiful way, combined with the instrumentals it made for a masterful album. I have heard "Depression Cherry" from this band, and I was left disappointed by that album. This however was very different and has inspired me to open myself up to that album again.

A major sound of the 2010s

My second favourite Beach house's record,it starts great but personally loose a bit of steam toward the end, luckily Take care is a great ending

listened to it while driving. Isaac fell asleep to it. pretty relaxing, voice interesting.

I listened to this album a lot when it first came out.

Very pleasant. Chilled out. Good listen

Very mellow- reminded me of The Killers

Super-chill, easy background music. No standout tracks, but no clinkers either. The album plays like a continuous song.

Really enjoyed!

Decent for a chill background vibe. All the songs sound very similar to me upon first listen. I like the overall vibe though!

there is something about beach house's music that i feel so deeply inside me. i got into a lot of their music in a long bout of depression and there is something i can't place that finds this music so comforting. whatever it is, i just really like this album! very chill, great songwriting.

Einfach schön...

It was nice background music and a very pleasant listen, but nothing really stuck out to me as memorable. I would put it on again, but I will also forget that it exists?

This was actually such a nice album to have on in the background of working. I’m familiar with beach house and their song silver soul along with some sounds from other ones and i am impressed. This kind of music has to be really good to get my attention and i thought it did a really nice job of not being boring. i really enjoyed the calmness of it but each song felt like a different emotion. i’m going to give a 4 because i never think highly of music like this and im very content.

dreamy vibes

It's got a dreamy indie sound, plenty of sounds kinda reverby a lot in the vocal effects which adds to the dreamy sounds, its not got a lot of energy to it but it's all very good vibes to it, worth listening to if you like early 10s indie music

favourite song: 10 mile stereo really enjoyed this album, especially fond of 10 mile stereo where its at (arguably) its most shoegaze-y and really gets noisy. reminiscent of galaxie 500 (a favourite of mine) at some moments. truly a very solid album and one i think will grow on me with repeat listens

I loved it, very dreamy hazy sound production wise like I was drifting along calmly

very cohesive album, mellow and dreamy, I liked it

Pretty indie space pop, bit soft but nice psych

listening to it in lit. Definitely a listen for a chill mood, definitely can zone out while listening and not be too bored to skip. Favorites are: silver soul, walk in the park, 10 mile stereo, and norway

Beach house slaps

Does what it says on the tin. Nothing too memorable but good for studying/working.

v nice soft pop

Really liked this one, I feel like tumblr probably liked it even more though

It was ok it some good songs

I have never heard of this album or band, and had no idea what dream pop is. I was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed this album. It’s not groundbreaking but has a nice chill sound and is perfect for unwinding or having on in the background while working. I would definitely listen to this again.

epic, Norway favourite

A sweet, dreamy album that has some heavier themes. The instrumentals from Beach House are always very well produced and appropriate for their vision. Good band.

We talking vibes on vibes. Vibes on vibes. Real Love is a terrific song.

Yes, dreamy and ethereal. Worked for me on a rainy Tuesday walk to work.

A grower, not a shower. Grew to unchastely size around the third time through.

Never heard the term “dream pop” before but it is very appropriate to describe this. Very pleasant album.

majestic and powerful

i like this one :3: 7.8/10

First listen Saved 6/10 Top track: Zebra

New to me. Strange, dreamy, plodding. Sometimes fairly beautiful musically. Some good vocals. Other songs kinda out of tune. Somehow reminds me of Coldplay? I would listen to some of the songs again. They might even be great. I'm glad I heard this and I hope I listen again some time.

I like it, but I wish it sounded more different than arctic monkeys.

Veľmi príjemné počúvanie.

Alternative pop often sounds good, but rarely is I really liked the shoegaze vibe added to the feeling of flying here Solid group and album, not too long, quite varied

Current fav: Zebra. Very chill and calming

Beautiful stuff… the rare post 2000s album whose spot is deserved

4/5 It was really chill and relaxing. Good vibes!

Off the bat I already dig this sound, Zebra is beautiful. A chill dreamy sound. 1.5 tracks in, I'm already leaning 4*. A cozy album, makes me think of summers in the PNW.

Objectively good but a bit boring for my taste.

Chill, airy alt rock.

i like it a lot im already familiar with this one and its a good melancholic relaxed listen.

Another tricky rating. I like Beach House - they often pop up on Spotify and I never actively dislike their songs; it’s great for a specific atmosphere, but all a little monochrome. Feels reminiscent of Fleet Foxes. 3.5, I guess… Highlights: - Zebra - Norway

Chill lowkey, good house music

I like it! Calm melodies, very nice to listen to after a workday.

I didn't hear a single lyric. I have no idea what they were singing about. Just mood. And yeah, it's just a monotonous weepy-wistful cosmic pop trance-out in a very narrow range of pastels. But spending 49 minutes in that territory can serve me, and they seem like authentic explorers of the feeling-space. I listened to one of their later albums a few years back and I remember it being a little more interesting than this. But not by much. And "interest" really isn't the point.

This album aged very well. It’s perfect night drive music.

Very chill good vibe music. A little bit best coasty.

Classic "stereo-typicaly" sounding indie music. It's good, though, not something I'd typically throw on the stereo if I want to listen to some tunes. Great production value and definitely very mellow.

toaster bath album

Very Good vibes

Dreamy

Never heard of this band, but I'm enjoying the shit out of the first 2 songs. Reminiscent of Explosions in the Sky, minus the intensity. Gonna listen to more of these guys.

love me some dream pop but the singing doesn't quite do it for me on this album

Very mellow vibes - there weren't any standout songs but overall really liked the vibes. I just really like this kind of music though

Bra album, veldig chill

So dreamy and mellow, I liked it!

Tasty, vibey dream pop. Awesome and chill.

Pretty surprised by this one. I had a friend at Best Buy that always tried to get me to listen to this band but it wasn't for me at the time. This is a nice antithesis to all of the metal I listen to. It's poppy but not too poppy, its calm but not too boring. It did kind of outstay its welcome near the last two or three songs though. As a whole I think I'll definitely be coming back to this and also giving Depression Cherry a real proper listen. 4

The sparse arrangements combined with the ghostly vocals make this a relaxing yet captivating listening experience Favourite tracks: Zebra, Silver Soul, Norway, 10 Mile Stereo, Real Love

Very smooth and easy to listen to. Pleasant.

Fav: Take Care Really like Beach House, Depression Cherry is the better album

Pretty nice

Very Indie, right up my alley!

1. Zebra - I liked the sound of this one and lyrics 2. Silver Soul - I didn't love the sound of this one, it was a little slower and a bit repetitive. 3. Norway - this one was my favourite so far, i really liked the instrumental 4. Walk in the Park - i like the chorus on this one, it's a nice message and the instrumental is really catchy to me. the outro is really soothing. 5. Used to Be - i like this one it has a really hopeful feel to it despite talking about the past and growing up. 6. Lover of Mine - this one is ok, i don't love the lyrical style but the music is boppy 7. Better Times - i like this one it has an interesting sound, but one of those songs you need to be in the mood for. 8. 10 Mile Stereo - this one is quite boppy, it really builds the backing music 9. Real Love - i didn't love this one, kinda depressing for some reason. 10.Take Care - i liked the music on this one it was hopeful. however, don't love the lyrics overall, it was a pleasant lesson but not sure it is something I'd listen to everyday.

I'm liking their sound already. Modern, but not too overproduced I think? Just multi-instrumental talent and good songwriting. It looks like BEACH HOUSE is a duo with live drums contracted out to other drummers. I really liked this album! I liked the sound. Definitely going to be listening to more Beach House in the future. I really like their vibe. Also, funny note but Kat apparently listens to them/has been a big fan. And The Weeknd uses samples of their music in some of his songs.

Beach House are one of the top 10 bands of the last 15 years. They put out consistently great albums that build on their beautiful sound. In many ways Teen Dream started it all, even if it’s not my favorite album of theirs. Victoria Legrand’s voice is subtle and sultry, to me it evokes a more restrained Grace Slick. The songs are vibes with surprising hooks. Each song is linked by a familiarity, a sameness, while also being uniquely beautiful, effervescent. I don’t know if I’m biased the way the author is biased towards 1990-2000 British artists, but to me this is a borderline classic.

lazy shoe gazey. 4 stars.

Solid album, I like all of the related artists more than I like this album, but a fun spacey vibe nonetheless. Don’t love the vocals.

The first song on this album was not my favorite, and I sort of expected to dislike the entire album because it sounds like a lot of other bands, just not as good. That is until the next song “Silver Soul.” Totally obsessed with it, and with that, gave the entire album a good listen. So glad I did because it’s actually fantastic. I will definitely listen to this again.

Nostalgia is a truly incredible thing because it only exists, unprocessed, in the mind of its bearer. Transfer and transmit the memory, and suddenly it bears a different meaning altogether. The beauty of Teen Dream — Beach House’s seminal third album — is how the band offers up a collection of quaint, coming-of-age reminiscences that transmogrify over and over depending on the listener. The songs are wistful and sweet, but lined with a crushing sadness that fit with the melodramatics of youthful exuberance. Though my first brush with Beach House, there is a whirlpool of melancholia that hits you on multiple listens, after having been drawn in by the warmth of its rhythmic compositions. The lyrics don’t always make sense — like reading someone else’s diaries, filled with turns of phrases and cheeky nods that make sense only to the writer (again, the metamorphosing of nostalgia rearing its head) — but the feelings are never lost in translation. The instrumentation is lush and rich, very summery in style, and vocalist Victoria Legrand possesses a voice so ethereal, it sounds almost fantastical. The album gives voice to the sense of longing and yearning that characterizes the best of teenagehood. But it also shows all the other facets of teenage years too: the secrecy and sensuality, the shedding innocence and rebellion, and all the boredom. All the passion and pent-up emotion keep bubbling throughout the core of the album, but Beach House never lets it burst, never let adulthood threaten its haze. Legrand and keyboardist Alex Scally were 29 and 28 respectively when they wrote the album, and it is obvious that Teen Dream is nothing but an immortalization of those sweet summer afternoons with all the passion and rebellion and yearning and lust. And like the most enduring emotions, it is best consumed in small doses, lest the music drown you and sweep you into the ocean, where you become one with that nostalgia all at once.

Oh Beach House, the darlings of Pitchfork where during my early twenties what they said was the truth of what good music was. I am now quite skeptical about what pitchfork deems good but they were right on this one. It's a very nice mood album that brings my mind to Tame Imapala and Fleet Foxes. It's a very early 10s album with it's sound and I guess I'm a bit biased being around 20 at the time. It sounds dreamy and makes me feel nostalgic. It is one of the albums that i actually think works better as a full length album than as singles. The start with Zebra and then Silver Soul is as good an opener as one can hope for.

I guess I like it very much.

Soothing, relaxing and a pleasant vibe. top notch Dream Pop

very dreamy, not their best though

Dreamy.

I have listened to this many times before and I think that this impacts negatively my final rating. I feel like I enjoyed it much more the first time. Now, after repeated listens, it kind of blurred with the background and does not attract so much of my attention anymore. It doesn't help that after listening to the album X times, I still struggle to tell each of these songs apart. Don't get me wrong, this is a great album that I greatly enjoy but it's no longer as effective as it used to be and I've found that the truly great albums continue growing on you the more you listen to them, not the other way around.

This album really did feel like a nice dream that i could just slip away into.

what a lovely album. "silver soul", "norway", "10 mile stereo", and "take care" are all incredible, not to mention "zebra" and "lover of mine".

Emotive dreamy and uplifting, very warm and nice.

Beach House is great at creating these atmospheric songs. i feel like the album is best listened to on a dark, rainy day. it is neither dark nor rainy today but it was still a great listen

Good suicide music id reckon

The atmosphere this album conveys is magical. A nostalgic experience from play to stop. Take me back to this teen dream. ❤️

I was thinking about beach house on my drive to work this morning and how I haven't listened to them enough and how I only know a couple of songs from them and not full albums minus the one I have on vinyl from my record club and now this is the album I get on that same day. Must be a sign. I like zebra, it's familiar. I think I have this album on itunes but I just never listened to it. I'm not sure why I haven't given it a chance. I've been really into dreampop shoegaze music lately so this falls in line. Just reminds me of tumblr. overall enjoyable, easy listening, good background music.

I liked it. It was catchy and mellow enough to chill out with. "Love of Mine" was a great track. I'd give this a listen again in a heartbeat.

I’ve never heard of this band, but I like them.

This is an album I really enjoyed back in 2010 and which helped me get into modern indie. I listened to it often on a bus ride from the countryside to city for work having moved briefly back into my parents before moving to London. I associate it with transition and reflection, and the songs still sound reflective. I knew nothing of the band and thought the singer was a man. I can't help but compare it to yesterdays generated album, xx's debut. Both are from the same era, gentle, with simple guitar and drums. Yet I really disliked xx and I'm very fond of this. The vocals here are so much more soulful, the mood more passionate and evocative, the whole thing feels more authentic, sincere. The vocal backing harmonies add meaningful depth and emotion. There are a couple of songs here that were amongst my favourite of the 2010s: Norway, Walk in the Park and Used to be. But the album is consistently very good. Granted, I could see how someone could find this album boring, as it's a bit repetitive and simple. But it's very much a grower and now a nostalgic album for me too. This has prompted me to check out their first two albums too, as I only know what came after this. An album for quiet evenings, long drives, rainy afternoons, lost in contemplation. 8/10. Lovely.

Goes down incredibly sweet and smooth. Although I'm more dedicated to Bloom, their album immediately following this one, Beach House managed to really strike something special here. Every song is a soft pillow for you to just lay your head down onto and drift away. So chilled out it might get freezerburn. There's a certain section of cusp millennials and GenZers that refer to THIS album when they talk about the classics they grew up. They're not really wrong. A cotton candy 4/5.

hørte sjukt masse på beach house i fjor, detta albumet minne meg om planke på apollon

Much less consistent than I would like it to be. I love indie dream pop but this one occasionally slides into the boring territory. Still, they made the dreamiest and most mesmerizing synth driven pop there is.

There's a folky, dreamy quality to this one. Some haunting melodies and a sort of atmosphere of introspection and longing. While 'Teen Dream' shares some sonic similarities with the emotive style of Band of Horses or Fleet Foxes, Beach House brings their own unique touch, infusing each track with a distinct sense of intimacy and vulnerability. This is another album I'd never have heard of if not for this list, and I do like it. I'm not sure if I'd seek out more of their music, but I did enjoy listening to this one.

Better songs at the beginning of the Album

Dreamy, floaty, nostalgic, a bit sad. This Beach House album impressed more than the last one with the trippy cover. The sort of music you have drink to in hazy light.

For me, start of a new wave of indie bands. Post indie-wave. Everyone grew up. Holds the emotion which just goes that bit further. Not quite folk. But you can listen to the sad songs on a sunny day. Brings that influence from Shoegaze. And Kendrick sampled them. Beam me up softboi! <3 SOT Zebra Silver Soul Walk in the Park 10 mile stereo 4/5

I found this to be a very pleasant listen, dream-like almost. Nice light indie sound

Not my favourite from BH but still a very good album just before they went on a 5-star run.

3.75/5

3.5+/5

Beautiful album - really enjoyed this mellow tunes. 4/5

So moody and lush. This album lets you enjoy a sonic sound bath as it just sort of washes over you. I love it, although I confess it's hard to pin down exactly what I love so much after it's over. I'm torn between 4 and 5 but I'm going for 4 because while I love it, I don't know that it rises to the level of "groundbreaking." I'll probably have regret later and wish I had given it a 5.

I have a note in my phone from at least 10 years ago that just says ‘Beach House musical group’. Either I heard them and wanted to explore more or I read about them. I can’t remember now and I never followed up. So it seems like this is an album (or at least band) that I needed to hear, The first song had me wondering what my past self liked about this band besides the name. As it went on I liked it more and more. My favorites after one listen are ‘10 mile Stereo’ and ‘Lover of Mine’. It certainly is music I would like to listen to in a beach house while sunlight streams through filmy white curtains and waves crash in the background. And I think I’ll keep the note in my phone so I listen to more of their stuff someday.

Good dream pop. 7.5/10

shi had me feeling like i was floating

i fucking love beach house. not even their best album but such a classic

Well this is rather lovely. Very nu-age Scandanavian sound (to me). Perfect on a hot sunny day, and fortunately for me, it's just that!

Dreamy and chill, but not so varied

lovely ethereal beautifully produced album. The reverb on the vocals can get a bit monotonous and I would like to see some tempo and arrangement variety mixed in but overall a really nice album that improves with each listen. 4 stars

Absolutely brilliant album.

Beach House is from Baltimore, MD, USA This was their first album and it failed to chart (anywhere in the world) but is considered one of their best works. Genre: Dream pop, indie pop 3rd Listen: 2.5, 3 The songs are really growing on me and I'm a fan. Standouts: Zebra, Norway, Used to Be, Lover of Mine Others: Silver Soul, Walk in the Park, Better Times, 10 Mile Stereo, Real Love Singles: ------------------- Used to Be (#13 US Sales) Norway (#41 UK) Zebra (#14 US Sales, #96 UK) Lover of Mine (DNC) 10 Mile Stereo (DNC) Rating: 4/5

This album is pretty consistent. There are a few filler tracks that I wasn't really feeling, but overall some of my favorite Beach House songs are on this album.

I had never heard of them before, but I like this album. Good theme and catchy tracks; good vocals tie it all together. 4/5

On one hand this exactly the type of music I like, but on the other vocals were rather unpleasant for the most of time. Not really fitting to this dreamy, mystical atmosphere.

me re gustó 8.5/10

Following it. cool album cover, and not an album made in the 80s! I like the hazy dreamy quality that was easy to listen to at work

4. Not claiming it to be a master piece, but could definitely listen to this again. (and again, and again, ...)

Mellow, super chilled, really pleasant

Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: Yeah, it’s so mesmerising and powerful Favourite song: Track 8 - 10 Mile Stereo

Ambient and peaceful. Great background soothing dream.

Perfect balance of energizing (but like a slow release as opposed to a fast punch) and dreamy (because I truly feel like I could get lost in this album).

Unexpectedly good

It’s nice, a little dreamy but not super, every song is unique and cohesive but I think some drag. 4/5

The kind of music you'd hear at a beach house in 2010. Liked it a lot didn't love it. Like a 3.8 but I'll round up since I also listened to Korn today

I was already familiar with this album, and I do like it quite a bit. Very dreamy, very lovely stuff. But I do prefer Beach House's subsequent albums. I guess that's a downfall of some of the more recent additions to this list -- a lot of the contemporary artists on the list have since released "better" work. That said, this one is still very good!

I really liked this album. I have a copy and have listened to it a few times before. It reminds me in feel of the musician "Panda Bear" but with quite different instrumentation. I always thought the singer was male, but was surprised on checking wikipedia that they are a duo with a woman singer.

If you're looking for dreamy, mellow music to unwind to, look no further than Beach House's Teen Dream. This album is the perfect soundtrack for a lazy afternoon, a productive workday, or a relaxing drive. The songs are infused with a laid-back vibe that will put you at ease and help you escape the stresses of the day. The vocals are ethereal and the instrumentals are mesmerizing, making for a truly captivating listening experience. With Teen Dream, Beach House has crafted an album that is both calming and enchanting, and one that will leave you feeling peaceful and content. So kick back, press play, and let the music take you on a journey to a more tranquil state of mind.

Heard a few songs on it before but it was a nice listen

To me, this is a classic. It pairs so well with working, with drives. Take Care is an all-timer for me.

Gorgeous dream-pop, with enough variety to keep it interesting.

It’s like a warm hug from a loved one saying “Everything will be alright”.

I’m a big indie enjoyer on the regular so I’m biased, but I love Teen Dream. One of my favorite albums ever.

SO glad to see this on the list! I love Beach House. Sometimes I can go a really long time without listening to them and then get back into it. Philippa introduced me in our teams, I thought they were unusual and weird but really liked it. They've brought out loads of great stuff since. This album holds up over 15 years I think!

Sleepy afternoon vibes.

dreamy, transient, and still somehow grounded.

à chaque fois que j'écoute Beach House, je trouve ça super joli et après j'ai plus envie d'écouter pendant 2 ans c'est un peu comme une bonne ratatouille

Beach House's Teen Dream was my in step album of this band. I like its dreamy sound, the vocals and SILVER SOUL is superstrong. But I was a bit disappointed at the time. There are several nice songs, but also quite a few that are a bit average. Their follow-up album Bloom is quite a bit stronger. Bloom: 5* (9/10) This one: a solid 4* (7.5/10) By the way, nobody knows this, but they used to be called "Beach Boys" and in 1970 already wrote their signature song "All I Want To Do", which is the blueprint for the rest of their work.

I like the dreamy atmosphere on this record.

Beach House is amazing and these songs are so hypnotic. I loved them ever since I heard "Space Song" off of "Depression Cherry". I already knew "Take Care" from this album, as well, but didn't know I would love so many other songs from it. It's very easy to listen to while not becoming boring. Every song from them is like a warm, fuzzy blanket. I love to get nice and cozy, wrapped up in each one I choose to listen to.

I liked it. I need to come back to it again.

Delightful dream pop where the highest highs ('Silver Soul', 'Walk In The Park', 'Take Care') are ridiculously good. Victoria Legrand's breathy voice is mesmerizing and a Beach House track is recognizable in seconds. Perhaps the melodies are a bit too similar between the songs, and I feel that at almost 50 minutes, the whole thing is just spread a tiny bit too thin in order for this to truly captivate me.

Let’s say you are completely unaware of the existence of the genre. If sat down to listen to Beach House and you were to take a wild guess at the genre, dream pop would probably be your first guess. Legrand’s vocal is mesmerizing and haunting. The tracks are extremely well crafted and there’s just something about the sound that takes you on an emotional journey for 50 minutes straight. I might later regret not giving this a 5/5. But at the same time, I always feel like the bubble bursts some time after listening to Teen Dream and you realize that there’s just this tiny piece missing. I might never find that piece though.

It's really nothing special, just very well made pop music, and today it hits a sweet spot for me. 4/5

tarvi tollasa paskaa laittaa alubm coveriks joo jotain suttua on vähän mut älä rupee tollaseks... hyvä albumi kuitenki ihan turha tollasta laittaa . pop ja indie on tässä niinku aiheina ja tota hyvältä kuulostaa katos pirkule ... kyllä siitä hyvää tulee.. 2010.... syntthi auttaa toki, (kult vibes) mutta joo....unipoppia.. en tällä kertaa nukahtanut heh... walk in the park paras viisu

I really like this. Really pretty soundscapes and just chill vibes overall.

This is nice. Some indie pop. I've never heard of Beach House, but I'm enjoying it.

LOVE THIS dream pop sound

I’d not heard this album; didn’t know this group. I really like their sound, their lyrics, their mood. Will listen to this again and seek out more by them.

I’ve listened to this album 3 times and I still don’t know what happened. I got lost in atmosphere of it all. This dream pop offering feels like a dream. I can describe it in general, but I can’t sort out the details. I know I had a good time and the imagination of it all was something to revisit.

I guess I listened to this record more than I thought I did when it was released, because all of it is very familiar to me. This certainly seems like more of a "certain time and place" type record for me, and I don't think I really listened to anything else from Beach House, but this record is better than I remember it--particularly since I didn't remember it much at all until I listened to it again on this revisit.

This is a pretty perfect encapsualtion of indie/dream pop. Hushed vocals, some reverb BUT the big thing here is that they didn't forget the tunes. Great album. Best Tracks: Zebra; Walk In The Park; Take Care

I like the dreamy textures, the way the instruments all meld together and for sure, Victoria Legrand’s androgynous voice (I thought the lead singer was a guy until a few years ago). I had this playing as I was doing some “work” on the computer. It was quite hypnotic and after the second loop through I still wanted more. They have certainly nailed the long fade-out ending (eg. Take Care) and based on their on-line photos, they've nailed the disheveled look as well. It must take a lot of time to make it look like you haven’t spent a single second getting ready for a photo.

An excellent turning point in the dream-pop outfit's discography as they maintained the warmth of their earlier output while bringing in the live drums and exciting synths that would define their later work. While not my favorite Beach House album, Teen Dream still holds a place in my heart for being the sonic equivalent of a bear hug – Alex's guitar tone with its massive bass response + Victoria's breathy vocals means the production space feels way clamped down, almost as if you're sitting around a campfire as the band plays away. Couple this with some top-tier songwriting and simple but effective instrumentals and you have an absolute winning combination, especially in the band's masterful use of late game-changing codas to spin a song on its axis even as it ends. 'Walk in the Park,' 'Take Care,' and 'Silver Soul' have soundtracked some of the best and worst moments in my life, and in each case it was the warmth and comfort that every song on this LP exudes that I was looking for. I still stand by Bloom and 7 as my favorite Beach House albums for their gazey mix of spatial, ethereal dream-pop, but every time I need to come down back to earth it's this LP I will turn to.

Zeer dromerig inderdaad. Aangenaam album

Really enjoyed it

Beach acid pop-rock No complaints, certainly cant listen to it unless you’re doing something.

Really liked this album. Nice and chilled.

This is a nice album. Melody and interest all the way!

Was only familiar with one song but still enjoyed

I didn't expect much going in, but this was nice. Probably my favourite album from the 2010's that I've gotten so far. I do wish some of the songs were shorter, but it was pretty good overall. My favourite songs were Used to Be and Lover of Mine.

A smooth and sweet album full of beautiful songs with romantic lyrics and tasteful productions. One of the top two Beach House's projects and one of the best records of the 2010s. Also "Take Care" is maybe in my top three of their entire catalogue.

26th September 2022 Listened during the day on my birthday while working from Cox’s. We did not go to the England game. I really enjoyed this, it was atmospheric and dreamy indie. I can see why they’ve done so many film soundtracks.

I love beach house their music always feel like I’m levitating

Only heard a couple of beach house songs never given this album a full listen before. This is really good love the dream pop vibes, will be added to my rotation.

Knew this album already. Solid dream pop as always from beach house. Paved the way for bloom and depression cherry-my two favorite beach house albums. Very calculated and nostalgic.

Rating: 7/10 Best songs: Walk in the park, Take care

"Teen Dream" is the third studio album from the dream pop duo Beach House. Dreamy is an apt description for this type of music as with its guitar, keyboards and especially vocals create a dreamy atmosphere. Beach House consists of Victoria Legrand (vocals, keyboards, organs, bells) and Alex Scully (guitars, bass, piano). A few additional musicians also played the drums. They wanted to create a more sophisticated album than their previous two and wrote and recorded this one after touring. Lyrically the songs use imagery and are mostly about relationships...break-up, forbidden love....kind of a sadder overtone. One of the more distinct aspects of Beach House is the deep contralto of Victoria Legend. It's has been compared to Nico and Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star. I guess I see that. For this music style, it is perfect. This is also a very good album. "Zebra" starts the album about with its repetitive guitar and builds with the drum beats. A sad sounding song It is about admiring about someone who stands out..ah, a zebra. "Silver Soul" is more dreamy and gloomy. Guitars and keyboards used here and is a standout track. I think it's straight-forward about falling in love. Their biggest hit and third song is "Norway." The twinkling and slide guitars and detuned keyboards.. This is lush and woozy sounding. Imagery of Norway. The most pop-sounding song on the album. The first single was "Used to Be" and about two lovers growing apart. Nice piano start and a beautiful beat and song. The combination of organ and keyboards and the melody make "Lover of Mine" a highlight. About cheating or the lure of cheating. "10 Mile Stereo" may be my favorite song on the album...it's dreamy with the guitars and melody and builds into almost shoegaze territory adding more of a rock beat, increasing tempo and keyboards. Another bad love song...about the ending of a bad relationship. I've liked every Beach House album that I've listened to and I've heard most of them. This one is probably at the top. I recommend it for everyone. If don't like it, you'll know within the first few minutes of the first song.

Calming. Love Silver Soul and Take Care. Great music and a happy discovery

smeary dreamy sad indie wistfulness for walking around on an overcast day. vocals took me some time to get used to.

A lovely album. Dreamy music complimented beautifully by the vocals. Very consistent in style and pace throughout, but with enough variety in the musical details to keep the interest. If it had more interesting and imaginative melodies this could be a 5/5 album. Rating: 4/5 Playlist track: 10 Mile Stereo Date listened: 22/08/22

Muy tranquilo e interesante

I love getting albums from this side of 2010, especially from artists I know! Beach House is one of those indie acts that has limitless appeal for people in the know, but I frankly haven't heard a whole lot from them yet, which makes this a very welcome listening assignment. I think "Silver Soul" was sampled on Kendrick Lamar's "Money Trees" in reverse, which is so cool. This is a very relaxed album and a great vibe. I'm all for it, and for more like this to break the rock monotony. Favorite tracks: Norway, Silver Soul, Walk in the Park, Take Care. Album art: A very faint animal print I believe. I like it for what it is but also hate it for being hard to see. But damn I guess it's memorable. 4/5

4.0 + All the elements that define Beach House's greatness are here - the dreamy guitar work, smoky vocals, splashy and spare drumming, warbly background fills. All of these come together beautifully on "Zebra", "Walk in the Park", "Silver Soul." The latter track marks the record's emotional climax with Victoria Legrand's plaintive refrain: "it is happening again..." I love these and other poignant moments on the record but if I'm honest, I tend to skip over much of the rest, particularly some of the middle tracks. For me, Beach House's dream pop sound, though established most decisively on this record, will be more fully realized on later projects like "7" and "Depression Cherry."

Not come across this duo before now. First listen - really like the sensibility, the vocals, the simplicity. Will definitely put this on rotation.

I can't say that I've listened to much dream pop before this, but I found this album really pleasant. It doesn't particularly grab you and draw you in, but the music is all very pleasant and flows well from song to song. They work really well together as a duo and both members of the band have good voices. It's not an album that I would describe as spectacular, but its very pleasant to tap your foot to as you listen to it, and the world could use plenty of that at the moment 4/5

Relaxing

It took me a long time to "get" Beach House. Just like the ineffable cover of this album, their songs (and the way they're produced) look very samey at first glance, but the more you actively delve into them, the more some of their charms become visible. That being said, the overall effect of such strand of dream pop is still hit-or-miss for me, just like that zebra pattern, once again. Even if a song like "Zebra", to stay on that very idea, proves that duo knows what they are doing, at least. Chord changes alternate between minor and major modes in ways that can make the whole thing mysterious and addictive, keeping with the fluctuating pattern of said artwork. And with the right set of ears (not too bothered by the overabundance of high-end frequencies), the unobtrusive, polished production of *Teen Dream* then soon becomes a lesson in subtlety and restraint. Quite remarkable, even if not *downright* remarkable. For what it's worth, this record is probably the band's masterpiece, thanks to standout tracks such as the one mentioned before, "Norway", "10 Mile Stereo" and "Take Care". The rest passes by quite nicely as background music. And when it comes to Beach House's whole discography, add *7* to *Teen Dream*, and maybe *Bloom* or even this year's *Once Twice Melody*, and you'll have a good idea of what Beach House can do when they are at the peak of their powers. After that, it's only for hardcore fans, really... Some dreams can't go on forever, can they? Number of albums left to review or just listen to: 870 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 72 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 31 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more important): 28

Sorpresivamente agradable de escuchar. Ritmos tranquilos, melodioso y con muy buena voz.

patchwork texture of parts. evolution of each song. good stuff. not my normal vibe but definitely will go back to it.

**6/19/2022 - ALBUM #143** Today's Album: "Teen Dream" by Beach House - I have heard a lot of talk about dream pop as I have explored music discussion, but this is probably the first album from that genre that I'm actually sitting down to listen to all the way. So, does it live up to expectations of an ethereal and spacey experience? Well, what I can say is this album does a very great job of being wallpaper music, which seems to be sort of the goal with this genre as far as I can tell. Each song is usually a really peaceful guitar that blends with a drum machine, bass, and a bunch of ethereal chorus vocals to back up a really powerful lead vocalist. The lyrics are sort of all over the place, but it adds to that ethereal dream like aesthetic for sure. The opening track is a little hard to take seriously nowadays with the chorus line, "arching AMONG USSSSS", but that is obviously at no fault of the artist and the track itself is a really straightforward and accessible opener to the sound of this album. I think this album is worst when it doesn't feel like it's doing anything innovative or new and just sticking in it's little bubble, but I think the overall vibe of this record is nice for simply putting on in the background and vibing to. I particularly enjoy the first half of this album with tracks like Silver Soul and Walk in the Park, and I do think the second half trails off a little bit in terms of quality, but I think it flows pretty well if you aren't paying too much attention to it. Overall, this is a really great, peaceful record to put on during a late night hang out or a night of insomnia. Give this one a listen if you like songs that make you float off into space. Highlights: Zebra, Silver Soul, Walk In The Park, Used To Be, Lover Of Mine, Take Care Score: 8/10 Really great songwriting for a such a laid back dream-pop album

Very melodious and beautiful, I will be giving this a spin for a while to get into the nooks and crannies.

Incredible, simplistic, without the usual pretentiousness that seems to accompany what is very much a sound associated with hipsters. The music is not so different or unique or ground-breaking by any means, but this is a well done album. The songs hit real nicely, the lead vocal with that beautiful mix of raspy and clear, it is hard not to just simply enjoy this album and feel content that for 50 minutes there was nothing to really regret.

I don't think I've heard of Beach House or any of the music on Teen Dream. I think I liked this album. The album reminded me perhaps of Florence + the Machine. There was something to this album that reminded me at times of stuff I already listen to, but I wouldn't have confused this band with someone I already know. "Zebra" and "10 Mile Stereo" were my favorite tracks. I'd like to hear more from Beach House

Cool low key ambient music

A few months back I went through a major Beach House phase. I wanted to catch up on their older albums in preparation for their new one (which is very good!). I’d always liked them before but something suddenly clicked in my brain chemistry and I became obsessed. I would stay up late listening to them until I fell asleep. Their dreamy, melancholy style sounds particularly good after midnight and they became a part of my end of the night routine for a while. This album might be the best example of their style. The songs are excellent, the arrangements are lush, and the drumming gives the sleepy music a little extra energy (some of their albums just use a drum machine to keep time). There’s a magic in their music I can’t get enough of - I find it very soothing. Favorite tracks: “Zebra,” “Silver Soul,” “Walk in the Park,” “10 Mile Stereo,” “Take Care”

Gotta say, I was pretty stoked to see an album released post 1999 for a change! And an indie album, no less! They definitely nailed the dreamy feeling, but without getting too lost in their own experimentation, which I appreciated. I love the slidey electric guitar, fun little electronic sound bytes, and the overall impression of floating in the clouds.

lovely, dreamy indie rock. Great band, relaxed music.

Nothing overly exciting here, just a very pleasant to listen to.

Started off strong, cool vibe, really liked it 7/10

yuuuuuuuge fan of this album that i had never heard of before. Likely going into the rotation for many of the songs. i worry a bit that these songs won't be as good on shuffle as they were on the album, but that's how it be sometimes.

Very different to most stuff you hear. Melodic strumming and easy to hear Cocteau Twins influence in sound and vocal. Real surprise.

Dreamy and kinda hipster

Kinda fleet foxy. Great work album.

Chill, a bit ethereal, a bit sad. Check. Check. Check.

This was my first time with Beach House, but I am now a fan. I really love this album. I very much love Victoria Legrand's voice and the beautiful sound of this music. I am looking forward to hearing them again.

Very chill summery music, this album seems to be all about vibes. I enjoyed it as background music, would definitely play this again.

Really nice chill out album

Quite liked it. Would probs have given it a 5 if I'd been doing a lot of shoegazing in 2010.

Moody as hell

i am familiar with all of beach house's discography, but i honestly didn't remember this album too well due to not listening in maybe a year. long story short, a relisten was definitely due, and i'm glad i got the opportunity to do so. the album starts off on a dazzling note with the enchanting Zebra and ends with an equally charming track, Take Care. nearly every track between shines with beauty, personality and dreamy gorgeousness. the music hangs over the listener with the softness of a blanket, but the nature of it as stunning and intense as the stars in the night sky. this is one to get lost in. alone in your room with the rain shattering your windows, or maybe holding hands with a lover as you watch those blue waves desperately gnaw at the sand. the choice is yours.

pretty good! reminded me of shoe gaze genre.

солидная штучка

Dreamy

Enjoyable indie dream pop. I think The xx does this sound a bit more up my alley, but nothing about this album was bad by any means.

Dreampop, indierock, 10’er svævende, harmonisk

Very Beach House. Happy to have it on, but a bit depressing to focus on

groovy - heard a lot about beach house but never listened to them till now. nice

8/10, this is what I want my dreams to sound like. Ethereal, easy, calming, mournful, and floating into nothing

This is so good

Really like this album. Nice sound quality to it, relaxing, a bit ethereal. Overall very nice.

Could never really get into Beach House but I enjoyed this. Will definitely revisit.

I like! It reminds me of Cocteau Twins from the 80s. Fits right in with some stuff I listen to when I'm feeling mellow....

Very calm and relaxing, but still has lots of character. Love the instrumentals overall, but especially in "Norway". This is the type of album that would be great in the background but can also hold my interest if I was focusing in on listening to it. It's hard to call something "timeless" that you have only heard once, but this is an album that feels like it will never be dated and could come from any generation. Will definitely listen to more Beach House. 4/5.

A very nice album, moody sad, melodic. Really lively music and feel. 4 🌟

One of their best

This is the type of music I regularly listen to so it’s safe to say I enjoyed this album. It does sound quite a bit like most other dream pop albums but there’s something different about this one. I think it’s a hypnotic quality to the production. Btw I’m in dc right now. Fav songs: a walk in the park, lover of mine, real love

3.5/5. This was pretty good, nothing really stuck out or blew me away. I like the vibe.

Liked it, will listen more.

Not bad, slow

Laid-back indie pop

I wish this had had more variety, but overall a really enjoyable album that was relaxing and emotionally evocative at the same time. 8/10

8/10. Pretty chill

pretty guud

I liked it. Bonus for being local

Alright. Pretty chill

Good stuff, I can get into this. Have listened in the past but never has stuck to me. Interesting to read about this album and how it struck a chord with people and caught on in a big way.

Avslutningen, med 10 Mile Stereo -> Real Love -> Take Care likaså. Mittenkvartetten håller inte riktigt samma klass, förutom Lover of Mine. Bästa låt: 10 Mile Stereo.

A band I’d never taken the time to listen to and I’m glad this has come up, a great surprise and right up my street - perfectly executed and accessible without ever being twee. An easy four and will explore more

Very much evokes the era it was released - had forgotten how good tracks like Norway and Lover of Mine are.

I like them, it's a good album

I loved the dreamy influence and the way tracks flowed into each other. First impressions loved it I can hear a lot of slowdive influence in this.

I think the album is very good. It has nice vocals and some great instrumentals to go with the vocals. I thoroughly enjoyed the direction of the album.

Vibes are immaculate, this is if Cigarettes After Sex and Mom Jeans touched tips and this came out. Definitely reminds me of the good days of the early 2010s, its pretty sweet.

Chill hippy stuff. Super good, loved it. Hard time getting into the lyrics, just liked the vibes

A nice surprise. Quite like the Maccabees.

really chill, will play it again, goes in liked albums

Spacey and beautiful

Easy listen, will probably listen again

Listened to beach house before, Norway great song, like the bands sound, songs merge well feels like songs related good album throughout 4.1

Simple and smooth. Great album

I dig this! Parts of it kinda remind me of a chiller, vibey Band Of Horses or even Kite Party. Kinda surprised I never listened to them before

One of my favourite and consistent bands from the 00's. They great a brilliant, melodic atmosphere.

thought it was calming :) i liked it

This was a really good album. Had a Tea for the tillerman/pet sounds/indie vibe to it. I have to look into this genre more.

skroz lagano i veoma alternativno, did enjoy

Never heard of this band before. Going to listen to more of them though.

Didn't mind but repetitive but liked it

has a galaxy 500 vibe that I enjoy quite a lot, I’d lump it in there with the flaming lips as well, I like it so far

this was calming background music for me. I liked a few tracks and added it to my "Background Tunes 2021" playlist. What I really liked here was the "Album Radio" Spotify started playing after the "Beach House" album was over. I added quite a few songs that I heard today into my various playlists. I have really been missing my OPLAE playlists from this random guy on Reddit that I got every few weeks so this thing Mark found has been one of my favorite things. THANK YOU MARK! I give this album 47 ripe watermelons

I've heard this album before. I enjoy it. It was mellow but I believe interesting enough to reward repeat listening s.

Probably need more listens to it. Feels like Portishead/Goldfrapp/The Walkmen (I think? and other slow, haunting indie rock

Klingt alles gleich aber alles gleich schön

Still class

Big fan of this. Their best album

LiS like. Their next album was not as good.

beachy, dreamy

Perhaps the first album of this challenge that may lead me to listening to the entire discography of the artist. Reminds me of so many Indy pop bands that I love. Cassino, Fleet Foxes, Local Natives, Now Now, Good Ole War, Arkells, Hey Hey My My, The Lighthouse and the Whaler, Gem Club, Pinegrove flannel out of 5

nice summery pop

Chill, good background music

Wow. This is really good. I wasn't familiar with Beach House before this, although I had heard of them. This is the first time I've been wowed by an album I hadn't heard before. Adding it to my favorites. 4 stars.

I had never heard of them. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

kinda airy. light and funish, i guess.

Enjoyable. I recognized several songs on the album but couldn't remember the band's name.

Chill as he'll. Me big likey

Little bit ambient

A quintessential dream pop album. Not really my thing tho

Looking at the genre & length - I did not think I would enjoy this album as much as I did. Solid stuff
