Teen Dream

At some points in this project I have felt like I might be too stingy with my "5s" - I don't think this album is a stone-cold masterpiece but I do love it. The vibe is great, with the incorporation of live drums and additional sounds in to what Beach House had become known for, and some absolutely fantastic songs here (Norway I think is my favorite despite Silver Soul being the biggest song). I love the dual vocals throughout, the melodies, the harmonies, the instrumentation with the interlocking guitar and organ parts, it all just works nicely. A healthy dose of nostalgia for sure from when my iPod at the time was filled with new albums from Beach House, Fleet Foxes, and Passion Pit. So yeah, this is a 5 for me.

I thought this was fine, no more, so it seems like a straightforward three-star album.

That was so forgettable that I’m not 100% certain that I listened to it.

It’s cozy, inoffensive and boring

I really enjoyed this album. It is part of the classic period of Indie music I enjoyed listening to when my boys play FIFA on the Xbox. And bands from Baltimore also get an extra star.

I have a fondness for 2010s dreamy pop shoe gaze. However, Bloom is the better Beach House album and you should listen to that instead. Teen Dream is a fine artefact but there is other material out there. 2.5/5

Appeal of beach house has slightly declined thru the years, but they are amazing at the one maybe two things they do. This album has many great moments

Perfect dream pop album. This is the album that started it all for Beach House IMO and I’ve been liking every single one of their albums since Teen Dream. The 2 albums prior to this lacked experimentation and feel imo. Teen Dream is a huge stup up. Top 3 Beach House record for sure.

this makes me zone out in the best way possible. i couldn’t tell you what any beach house song is called because i find them all so soothing i don’t even have the desire to check. usually that would be a bad thing but in their case it’s a great thing. put me in a trance and you get a 5.

Dream pop is generally entirely forgettable and this album is no exception.

I really like Beach House. It’s very silky and soft and vibey. However! I don’t think this is a 5/5 album even if I enjoyed it a lot, it’s a little too background music for me to say it’s the creme de la creme.

Album #247 Beach House: Teen Dream When it comes to music, I am something of a nostalgia merchant. I am the annoying guy who always goes on about how “they just don’t make music like this anymore”, and that new music “doesn’t have the same soul”. I am very aware of how played out that take is, and it’s not like I write off all new music; in fact, there are plenty of albums from the 2010s and on that I love; it’s just that when it comes down to what music speaks to my soul, for whatever reason that music tends to be from the 60s-90s. The 80s in particular would be my preferred decade of sound, and I’m clearly not alone in that since band after band have been trying to emulate some of the magic from that era. Post-punk, jangle pop, alt rock, big music, sophisto-pop, and of course, dream pop, were all blossoming and redefining how music can sound. Though I tend to always depend on the pioneers of these genres, every now and then a band comes around that is so undeniably brilliant that they enter the canon. Interpol expanded upon the guitar work of The Chameleons and vocals of Joy Division to create one of the best post-punk albums of all-time, Arcade Fire took the pomp and circumstance of The Waterboys and U2, and combined it with the ethereal hooks of an Echo and the Bunnymen, to create one of the greatest arena rock albums of all-time, and Beach House who took the texture and soundscape of the Cocteau Twins, and combined it with modern technology to create some of the most lush dream pop ever made. It really should be as simple as that: music is always evolving and getting better; in nearly every aspect of our world, technological advances have revolutionized every field; and though from a production standpoint that is true for art, something that technology can never advance is spirit. No matter how much money and tech is poured into a Michael Bay action movie, he can never create a new Raiders of the Lost Ark. Beach House are one of the few examples in music where new technology, combined with genuine artistic spirit, resulted in a true-to-form modern improvement on a genre. I’m not saying that Teen Dream, or any of Beach House’s other brilliant albums, are the best that dream pop has to offer; but they very well may be the best sounding, and in a genre like dream pop which is focused more on texture and atmosphere, that goes a long way. Every song on Teen Dream pulls you in; the album is absolutely suffocating, and has that ever-rare essence of bringing you into its world and letting you get lost in the music. I have to admit that it’s been a while since I heard this Beach House album, and what tends to happen when I haven’t played an album in a while is that I start to forget just how good it is. I find other great music, and start to underrate older albums; but after returning to Teen Dream, I am reminded about just how good Beach House is. #415 I didn’t really know this until I looked in Apple Music and realised I had it in my library and then remembered it was once recommended to me and pretty sure I’d given it a listen, not that I remember much of it. It’s classic shoe gaze dream pop vibes, it can kind of pass you by, the whole album is a vibe and it needs to be something to immerse yourself into, to the point where about half way through it begins to make sense. The trouble is, I’m not sure I’m always in the mood and feel it would need a few listens to properly get to know it. In 2010 Vampire Weekend's Contra came out. Its not on the list. In fact, none of their albums are on the list. But this is I can imagine this would work as a soundtrack to an indie movie. But on its own it doesn't offer much of anything.

Beach House is an artist that criminally speaks my name, has everything i want in music, but for some reason it hasn't clicked for me yet. don't get me wrong, absolutely incredible music. i'm sure in years time i'll look back on this being only 4 stars and being like "oh you didn't get it". i quite fancy this genre of music, it's just so beautiful. can't wait for me to get it.

It's got that real sound that was so prevalent at the time, with some pleasant, dreamy elements. This style of music has never been for me, as music that doesn't really go anywhere doesn't connect with me that well. But I can appreciate its quality, and I see why people like it.

i am going to pause this project again to account for the fact that my current bout of depression is as such that i am having a hard time getting Super Close to any art i experience, particularly music. i rly rly enjoyed this record but i could tell it was through a sense of removal that i would like to bunker down and wait out, and i dont want any upcoming records to be needlessly stifled by it either. in any case...i feel like most of the dream pop i end up hearing ends up cranking the ambient , formless side of it so its cool to finally hear one of the genre's biggest bands and see such a strong sense of directed songwriting, pop sensibilities floated out into abstraction purely based on how lush the sound gets. some lyrical mantras here are particularly moving, kind of splitting the difference between Anthemic and Hypnotic power without being reliant on either. great album cover. a lovely record to leave with for now.

Que gusto da escuchar un album que es un perfecto 10/10, qué cosa sera que tiene el dream pop que me hace conectar conmigo misma? con la parte de mi personalidad que es solamente mia, con cómo creo que me percibe la gente, con cómo veo la vida cotidianamente y con mi estado básicamente más puro como persona Justo antes de ver qué album me tocaba hoy hablaba con alguien especial de la influencia de los Cocteau Twins, de lo lindo que es sentir, y de cómo no hay nada como Beach House. Agradezco profundamente la existencia de este genero y lo que desemboco del mismo. De repente siento que la vida va a acomodarlo todo, que tengo que centrarme en el presente y mirar atras con cariño y agradecimiento. Destaco las letras tan poéticas sobre la percepción de la vida, la instrumentalidad perfecta, la nostalgia tan perfectamente conseguida, y obviamente Silver Soul, por el valor emocional que tiene en mi vida y por ser el sample de Money Trees (Kendrick y BH vendrían a ser top combinaciones existentes).

It's fine for dream pop (which I'm not really into). The standout track Walk in the Park is memorable and has a nice back and forth between the sung lines and vocal countermelody.

Sometimes when the top keyword on an album is “boring”, I just know it’s gonna be good.

I wasn’t aware of Dream pop as a genre and had never come across Beach House. That said I enjoyed the mellow and relaxing vibes. I’ll listen again at some point in the future- maybe in a beach house. In Eastbourne.

It was about time for some millennial music. At least a little representation. Too bad their most known song that’s actually nice (even though memed to oblivion) isn’t here. In rest just nostalgic, because I actually lived through this era unlike most of this list that I just discover, but sadly not as memorable as some of those old gems.

Very indie, dreamy, and ethereal. That is to say, not my jam. I don't want to say it's objectively bad, because of course music is very subjective and biased, and I'm sure there are people who really like this kind of stuff... I'm just not one of them.

You're 19, you just moved out of your parents and you're attending your second semester of college. It's springtime, the trees are pushing buds but you can still see your breath and for the most part, the world is still sticks and yellow grass. You have an overwhelming sense of loneliness and you're nauseatingly homesick. It's Tuesday morning and you're walking to class across campus to your 8AM college Algebra class. You wipe the sleep from your eye and go to take a sip of your bitter burnt coffee you made from the $8 coffee maker your parents gave you when you moved into your apartment. As you tilt the tumbler up, you make eye contact with the prettiest woman you've ever seen in your life. Her hair is disheveled, the bags under her eyes the shade of lilacs, she napped a couple hours in Monday's mascara. She's obviously been up most of the night - likely on caffeine pills - and her college hoodie is two sizes too large. She's got that look in her eye, you know the one, the "I'm about to quit college and move to another country" look. Oh, how you relate. You envy her because she's seriously considering it and you've only entertained the thought as a playful "what-if". The bitter taste of coffee washes over your tongue. You nod. She doesn't notice. She hurries past you and you catch a waft of the shampoo she used last night, it fills your head with wishful thoughts and a self-awareness that you probably smell like last night's heat-and-eat curry chicken and the sheets you haven't washed in 4 weeks. You turn to watch her go but it's too late, she's turned the corner and is gone. You think about her for the rest of the week. You never see her again. This album is that feeling. 9/10.

Dreamy, shimmering, nostalgic. Beach House set a high bar for what dream pop can be, and as a result we've seen several imitators throughout the 2010s. But Beach House's particular blend of electro/indie remains one of a kind. As someone who came of age in the 2010s, I'd say it's impossible for me objectively rate this album (and their next album, Bloom) as it played a big part of my college and post-college years. Takes me back to a simpler, more hopeful time in my life.

Been listening to a lot of Radiohead and this definitely is Radiohead-influence-heavy. Bands like this tried to take the torch and move it to the next generation. Lush, washing and enveloping. A fun listen even if I drifted in an out of attention to it. The music took over both foreground and background as needed.

I thought it was very nice sounding, it was close to a 5 but just not quite there for me tbh. Very good ambient background music. Highlights: Zebra Silver Soul Norway 10 Mile Stereo Favorite: Norway, but 10 Mile Stereo is close

Beside the fact that Silver Soul is sampled in one of the greatest rap albums of all time, this album is wonderful. It's serene and strange, and I feel like it perfectly encapsulates what my summer feels like right now. What a treat to get this album.

If you’re looking for a beautiful album that’s mellow and chill to lounge around the house to, then this is the perfect album. The music is very melancholic, immersive, and has a dreamlike atmosphere to it. You’ll definitely pick up on some vintage synths that give the album a nostalgic feel, along with subtle percussion layered in as a backdrop to enhance the ambient soundscape rather than being the driving force. Overall, this is really a very relaxing album that I would most likely either start my day with or end my day to help wind me down.

Too much reliance on ✨vibes✨, too little music making. I love a good atmospheric experience, but I expect a lot of thought and precision to go into curating it. Maybe there was a lot of thought put into this, and it just didn't come through, but overall, I just found this uninteresting.

Uno de los grupos que más he escuchado durante este siglo. Por algo será... Este disco fue una bendición. Excelente, solo superado por el siguiente y el siguiente. ya con Devotion y ‘Gila’ o ‘Apple Orchard’, habían llamado mucho la atención, pero esto fue un paso de gigante que les llevóa un sitio del que no se bajaron. La triada inicial (Zebra, Silver Soul y Norway) es soberbia. Victoria Legrand y Alex Scally están muy inspirados, y la mano de Chris Coady (productor de Radiohead, TV On The Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs) se nota para bien: reverb a tope y el característico pivote doble en la batería añadido al efecto de eco hacen una joya de este álbum. No sobra ni una sola nota, es un disco para escuchar del tirón y disfrutarlo como mejor se quiera. Un grupo que jamás defrauda: Teen dream, Bloom, 7, One twice melody... Sus letras sobre incertidumbre y desencanto individual tiene su ampliación en el The Suburbs de Arcade Fire. Su influencia en otras magníficas obras como Hurry Up, We're Dreaming de M83, I like It When You Sleep, for You Are so Beautiful yet so Unaware of It (I Like It ... de The 1975, Is The Is Are de DIIV es evidente.

One of the people I most looked up to in college was a Beach House devotee, and I’ve read so much about how great their albums are. I think they capture what a lot of 2010s indie failed to in leaning into the atmospheric quality of their music. I truly hate 2010s indie but this was pleasant.

Багато моїх друзів любили біч хаус на початку-середині десятих, а я якось не викупав. Більш того, у 2016 я навіть попав на їхній сет, який мені видався дуже нудним і я навіть до кінця не достояв. Але цей конкретний альбом мені скоріш сподобався ніж ні. Дуже тепла і в якомусь сенсі романтична музика, такий собі дрім-поп для заспокоєння (як напевно і будь-який дрім-поп). Коротше слухав з задоволенням, 3.5.

Sounds about right for the era. IDK if it does much for me.

After a pair of controversial/challenging albums recently, it was a nice change of pace to hear a bit of low-key shoe-gaze from pop duo Beach House. This is a good album for chilling out to in a non-threatening way - it’s not going to set the world on fire (we’re already doing a pretty good job of that judging by the weather), but it neither wants to nor needs to. Lead singer Victoria Legrand has an appropriately dreamy voice, reminding me a little of Elizabeth Fraser from the Cocteau Twins and the music is minimally laid back and relaxed. I’d be hard pressed to name a single song from this after one listen, but I’m going to give it another go while I’m working today which should tell you something.

Interesting album - very smooth and all. Not a sound I typically go for as it feels like the songs blend together a bit much for me. Overall pleasant.

Never listened. Expectations: Mid - Verdict: Good - I enjoy the hypnotic feel and wordless vocalisations. The songs are catchy and enjoyable without feeling too light or airy. Silver Soul, Lover Of Mine and Better Times are highlights.

This was a very linear record. It didn't blow me away by any means, but I might give it another shot sometime. Very dreamy, almost Cocteau Twins-esque at times, but not as good of course. I enjoyed it as played in the background.

This album is is real good and dreamy, at its best it creates this soundscape that sucks you into its world bringing warmth inside every part of your body. The guitar on this LP was my favorite part of the whole thing and whenever it was played with the effect the band put on it I basically swooned, songs like silver soul and better times are good examples of this for me. Although I do love a lot about this record I will say certain aspects of it do not really do it for me. Some songs that feel a bit more poppy kind of fall flat for me like Lover of mine for example. I feel like this album is at its best when it makes a dreamy atmosphere with the harmonies of the voices and choices of instrumentation that's why the last track Take care works so well in my eyes. I good album that makes me excited to see what more Beach house has to offer. Fav tracks: Zebra, Sliver Soul, Norway, Better times, and Take care

A lovely sounding album which is very well made and performed, it doesn't hit 4 star for me purely out of personal preference as it's just a little too slow for my liking. 3.5

This album is very good at some parts, but I'm afraid I don't end up liking the dreamy-atmospheric sound of this band. Most of the songs have different beautiful elements, and there are several layers to explore in here, and the mixture of those sounds really give that dreamlike sound the band tries to achieve... but I feel like some songs need something else before getting monotonous. So, I've liked it overall, but I'll need some time to figure out if I want to give this album another try.

3 - lethargic mood music. Might be good in the right setting.

It’s alright I suppose but I don’t think I’ll listen to it again. It’s that sort of vibesy music that critics in the 2010s seemed to love but personally I prefer music with passion, that isn’t trying to be cool. There are films that are obvious Oscar bait, this sort of music is critic bait, well produced and musically good, and a little bit different from what went before but ultimately a bit soulless. No one is going to hear this and start a band, it’s as bland as the cover.

Ya indie boi time

This album is so bland I forgot that I was listening to it a few times. Popped it on to cook dinner, and whist never offended or put off by anything on the album, I was equally neither inspired or intrigued. It was just... there, 16 years after listening to them for the first time and feeling equally underwhelmed.

Definitely well made music but it just gets a bit monotonous as the album goes on. Nothing really resonant or striking, just dreamy pop. I can’t say I dislike it but I definitely don’t feel like listening to more of it right now.

I had a jazz record yesterday so the following album gets an extra star by not being jazz. Found this tranquil and relaxing. Sounded like someone then i got it Jake Bugg. So not sure who sounds like who Was doing a bit of tidying up and this was pleasant enough.

This is the first time that I have heard this album, but I have heard a couple of the records that came after this album and its not a dramatic change in their overall aesthetic. It's a dream pop album that probably is influenced by the later work of the Cocteau Twins. It has a lot of that atmospheric sound, but has enough differences to give it its own voice. Not a spectacular and innovative album, but one that produces a group of engaging songs. Solid work.

I Love Beach House

I remember Beach House being Pitchfork darlings years ago, but avoided them due to the hype. Now that I'm listening, my original assumption wasn't too far off. It's dream pop/alt rock that doesn't try too hard. Perfectly enjoyable for passive listening, but as soon as I start actively paying attention, the music seems more vapid. I can see where this would be enjoyable for some, and there may be artists similar to Beach House that I would enjoy, but this album strikes me as a siren song for hipsters in their 30's. 2/5

I liked the sound at first, but the sound gets boring when there’s no variation

A bit too sleepy for me. I never really got into this era of indie, the songs are pleasant enough but there is nothing to hook me.

It starts real strong, but then peters out and begins to blend together. Not a bad blend though, and I could see this one growing on me. Highlights-Zebra, Silver Soul, and Lover of Mine.

Kind of a dreary album. It peaked my interest by sounding similar to The National and other bands in that vein. But it didn't keep my interest.

I reaaaaally liked this album. It was made the year I was born so i also felt somehow connected to it and it was just nice to listen to. I will give 5/5 couse there s no so many albums that i actually like in here.

For a dream pop it’s quite bland and one-dimensional.

It's ok. I feel like I would've liked this a lot more had I heard them during college, but less so now. They're like Fleet Foxes Lite. Not bad music by any means, but it just feels like imitation of music that I'm more familiar with and love. I really don't hate it, but I can't say I love it either.

The vibe reminds me of "No One's Gonna Love You" by Band of Horses. Especially the big track: Silver Soul. It's a calm rock, reminds me of Mazzy Star too. I dig it. Kind of a high 3, might turn to a 4 with more listens.

I love the vibe of Beach House, and the way their songs wash over you, but at the same time there's a similar to the majority of the songs that means I really only need 4 or 5 songs before I'm ready to move on

The lack of album cover definitely threw me for a loop. Thought the site was broken.

'Any way you run, you run before us / Black & white horse arching among us.' As white as The Shins, meaning as white as you can get, Beach House makes music just as gorgeous as The Shins', meaning as gorgeous as this perspective can produce. 'You let us in the wooden house / To share in all the wealth.' Dreamy in all facets of the word, that is, dreamy b/c luxuriant & walled-off from reality, Teen Dream is produced to a sweet perfection, & its loving cadences are no soulless messages of luxury. But rampant lushness like this is for folk w/ a beach house, or multiple, not for the common lot of humanity. Do I think there's no place for music like this? I do not, hence a rating that expresses my appreciation. But yeah, they're finally too pallid.

I really enjoy Beach House, but I'll be honest - I couldn't distinguish one song from another, not while I was listening to it and not afterwards. I love their style and their songwriting, but here..... it's just sort of like green tea over rice. THREE STARS

It's the week of the weak. Not a single album in the last 5 days was compelling or T1001-worthy. I know the bands name but not their music and was intrigued with the listener counts on this album. My mind is blown that 46M people have sat through the entire opening track, "Zebra". It's repetitive and boring. 315M people listened to "Silver Soul", why? The world has turned upside down! My god it went nowhere in 5 minutes. 79M people listened to "Take Care", I was not one of them, I was so uninterested by that point I listened to the first 2 mins and was done. This was a completely boring album to listen to. Who is the crowd that loves this monotonous vanilla blah wall of sound? You guys ever heard of a guitar or a drum? Beach House is the food equivalent of Poi. 2 stars, damn I need a Red Bull or something now.

Like being escorted in a rowboat on a bitter cold lake through the thickest fog by a sometime depressive contralto that will either haunt you or sing to you sweetly.

Bo-ring. Like, one of these songs at a time is "hey, that's pretty good!" And then there's another. And another. And none really sticks out from another

Interesting indie vibes. They sound very similar to groups like Vampire Weekend or Tame Impala with influences from the Beatles and other British Invasion bands along with folk singers and songwriters. There’s also some synthwave that makes an appearance, which I quite like. As is often the case with indie music from the 2010s, melancholy lyrics overlap hopeful beats creating a nostalgic feeling; a sense of what we hoped for versus what we actually got. Which, based on the name of the album, was probably the point. Soulful harmonies round out this sweet, but ultimately not unique, album. I certainly enjoyed it, but nothing about it was particularly special. And they weren’t exactly ahead of their time with the sound, though they were a couple years ahead of the curve.

This album has been very special to me for a VERY long time. I've had many a late night drives in my first car to 'Take Care', with a few manly tears being shed. Incredible album, I don't even need to listen to it this round, since I've listened to this album probably 50 times.

Nice. I'm all for hearing another contempo album. There isn't too much for me to base my genre prediction off of with that album cover, but I'll hedge my bets on another contemporary, artsy pop album similar to that of "In Our Heads" by Hot Chip, which is an album I've also listened to recently. Might as well just hit play on this one. Yeah, I'd say I was pretty much on the money with my prediction. I can appreciate a pick like this for being decently unique and a solid representation of where music was at during the time, but it's appeal isn't all there for me. I don't want to go on another schizo tirade about the millennials, but the artsy indie albums which were prominent in the mid-to-late 2000s and early 2010s are kinda lame, I won't lie. Obviously, what I dislike most about this music is how impersonal and aloof it is, though I can't complain much as this music was tolerable and easy to listen to on the whole. As far as the actual music is concerned, there were some decent points. The guitars are generally the highlight of this album and carry the songs along nicely thanks to their delicate, measured sound. The vocals are also decent. They have a breathy, yet stressed sound to them which fits with the established style while also injecting energy into the music. This specific vocal style is also one that I heavily associate with 2010s pop music, so bonus points there. The most pronounced aspect of this album are the synths, which are also commendable. They have a soft, rounded, quirky sound which reminds me quite a bit of "Congratulations" by MGMT. While the music holds its own pretty well, I must admit that the average track length of five minutes was a little too much for me to stomach. The atmospheric sound of this album definitely warrants songs of that length, but my interest in this style of music wasn't enough to hold my attention for that long. The latter half of the album kind of blew by me as a result, though on the whole I thought this was a competent and decent listen. Book time. One of the best offerings of late-2000s/early-2010s dreamy pop music. A pivot in the band's style towards less lo-fi and more varied music. About as innocent in its subject matters as it is depraved. Wikipedia says this album was warmly received by critics and made many best-of lists for 2010. It performed very well on the US indie charts, but had more modest success in the handful of Western and European countries where it charted. Like I said earlier, this music is a good representation of the time that it belongs to, so I think it's more than fair that I let this one through. I cosign this inclusion.

Overall: 6/10 Had it's moments, and would be a very good album to fall asleep to. I found it a bit boring at times. Fav Song: Real Love

It wasn’t bad, but I couldn’t really look past what I was hearing for the most part and a lot of the tracks sounded a lil’ similar to each other That being said, i do enjoy “Lover of Mine”. That was a good songgg! Its definitely not bad by all means, I’d probably just have to give it another shot

Lying in bed with an hour to go before my alarm, a hard rain shower pelts the windows and keeps me from falling back asleep, so I put on today’s album: Teen Dream by Beach House. I was immediately surrounded by a dreamy, relaxing soundscape. I enjoyed it for what it was, but after a while every song began to blur together, and in the end the album didn’t leave much of a lasting impression.

I got to the penultimate track on this album and it wasn't until I started reading their Wikipedia page that I realized there was a female vocalist. It straight up sounded like a whiny emo guy. This definitely maintains a cohesive vibe and I can understand why this genre is called "dream pop." Overall, this is just one long 49 minute song. If you're into this kind of thing I guess this is a good album??

Non offensive lump of nothing

Very minimalist. I wouldn't mind having a track or two on, but as a whole album it all bleeds into itself.

I have never heard of this band nor any of their songs. 1st time through... -------------------- Parts of this reminded me of The XX. Some parts actually reminded me of the mellower songs of My Morning Jacket. Sometimes reminded me of Arcade Fire. Sometimes Mazzy Star. Also - something about "Silver Soul" also reminded me of "Funeral" by Band of Horses. I like stuff from all of these bands so this is a good start. Her voice sometimes reminds me of that song "Marry Me Archie" by Allvays. I don't know that band as much as the others mentioned above but it occurred to me as I was listening. Although looks like this Beach House album came out 4 years before the Allvays one. Also - sometimes I hear a voice/pronunciation like Lorde. Funny how this keeps reminding me of so many other things. Looking at the Wikipedia article they say this is "shoegaze" genre. I must not understand shoegaze because the album I heard on this website by the band that was considered the originator of shoegaze was from My Bloody Valentine called "m b v" - which sounds nothing like this and that was horrible (0 songs liked, 0 stars). Maybe other My Bloody Valentine stuff sounds like this. Don't know. Or maybe shoegaze is just a dumb label that some critic came up with or some record company came up with in an attempt to create interest in some new bands. I'm starting to realize that I really don't like genre labels. They also call it "dream pop". I'm not sure exactly what that means but it sounds like a more reasonable name for this style. 2nd time through... --------------------- Liked "Silver Soul", "Norway", "10 Mile Stereo" and "Real Love" on this spin through 3rd time through... --------------------- Liked "Zebra", "Walk In the Park", "Take Care" So, I basically liked the first 4 songs and the last 3 longs. The 3 in the middle weren't necessarily bad - they just didn't grab me as much. This was a good surprise! I came into this with zero knowledge or expectations - but it ended up being pretty good. Definitely has very chill vibes - but sometimes that fits the mood. It doesn't get boring though - since it has an intensity to it. I need to listen to this more to understand what most of this is about - lyrically. One other thing I noticed - a lot of these songs are around 5 minutes long and several longer than that. That's good - it lets the songs stretch into the vibe and lets them do more interesting things as it goes along. Liked songs on Spotify: 7/10 Rating: 4/5

Love this band and this is a solid album. The record is Flfilled with with the dreamy, melancholic vibe that they do very well. Glad to see them and this album on the list

Sometimes im just like damn what is blessing my ears

I really enjoy beach house and how vibey their music is. I don’t think I could give a 5 to an album that doesn’t really go out of its comfort zone to do something bold, but they know their sound and stuck to it.

This was the first album so far that i'd never heard of, that I really should have done. It seemingly passed me by. It was ok, I don't particularly like dream pop and I didn't particularly like this

This might be the first album on the list from a band I'd never heard of that I actually enjoyed. I've always had a soft spot for shoegaze, especially on a rainy day, and this was a nice way to spend my early morning.

That one album from a synth pop/rock Adjective Noun band of the 2010s!

This definitely felt like something new back then, and still feels fresh to me. It's definitely chill, and it might be easy to miss the rhythmic and tonal variation. But watch how "10 Miles Stereo" develops. (That was the song that caught my ear today.) My other favorites are "Zebra" and "Take Care." Rich sonic textures, and she's got a great voice to match them. I think this is the right album to include on a Must Listen list, but I'll revisit "Bloom". Not quite 5/5, just 4/5. But I'd probably include it on my personal list of 1001.

I've been on a big Beach House kick recently, so this was perfect timing! While this isn't my favorite Beach House record, it still exemplifies why I love this band so much. It's just hard to find current bands who make dream pop like this so well! I'm not really sure what makes these songs (and Beach House's music in general) so beautiful, but I really just love Victoria's haunting voice and the lush, shimmering instrumentals behind it. Everything just melds together in such a satisfying way. Anyways, I can't wait for them to come back with new material, whenever they do. Also, shoutout to my 4th-grade science teacher who introduced me to them (with 10 Mile Stereo, in fact!). Favorites: Zebra, Norway, Walk in the Park, 10 Mile Stereo, Take Care

I'm old enough to remember being disappointed when this came out because I was sad Beach House was abandoning their lo-fi bedroom pop sound for something more polished. I'm pretty stupid sometimes. This IS a bit of a transitional record, with the band working their way to the more cinematic, widescreen dream pop they would perfect in Bloom. Still great, though. Look, are there bands and records not on this list that I would put before Beach House? Yes. But are there other bands I would take off this list before I took off Beach House? Also yes. This is a lot of words to say, I love this band, I love this record, five stars.

Nice, dreamy vibes but doesn't really get boring. I like the repetitiveness (is that a word) within songs, it sucks me in and let's me vibe along.

This is where I find out Beach House has an album in here. I'm only familiar with them through 2015's Depression Cherry, which is a really beautifully crafted record ("Space Song" has gone viral in recent years, for good reason I think). Hearing a lot of the same bright, beautiful vibes here as well. Orchestral in a synthesized way, if that makes sense. Melancholic if not a little bittersweet.

While this is not bad music, only a single song had a soul. The rest is bubble gum and nothing special. It’s like they heard something of the era and decided we can do that too.

Another easily listenable album with a very pretty sound, but with nothing really exceptional to recommend it. Certainly not bad, but it highlights how having a list with 1001 entries is probably too big.

This is the kind of music that seems to assure its listeners that there are other intangible, ethereal wondrous worlds out there beyond our physical comprehension.

I instinctively grabbed a tissue during "Take Care", so what do you think?

This, to me, felt more like backing music than something I would sit and listen to top to bottom. Many of the reviews I have seen of this album are really high ratings, and they talk about the nostalgia of the album. I never listened to this while growing up, so I feel that maybe it's more of a nostalgia thing, taking people back to when life was easier, rather than it actually being an objectively great album. I feel like this is the same as my reasoning behind loving 'Back To Bedlam' by James Blunt. I grew up with that album, so I love listening to it, and it is forever one of my favourite albums. But this album, I feel, is a sort of list of songs that just blur into each other. I was awaiting a catchy hook or lyric, but I was left disappointed. However, that being said, as background music, this is really lovely to listen to. The vocals, harmonies, and instrumentals flow really well together and sort of help you to zone out in a way and give you the chance to just sit and breathe. But trying to actually sit and listen to each song while paying attention becomes a bit tedious, and the tracks sort of drag on a bit too much for me. The first two tracks are perfectly pleasant but feel inconsequential. I was mentally starting to write this off, but then something clicked on Norway. Yes, it still feels like music designed to sell to advertising agencies, but I like this one. The next couple songs aren't bad. Then I like the keyboard melody on Lover of Mine. It gives it some much needed weight. 10 Mile Stereo also has some bite to it, and Take Care isn't a bad closer. You could play this for almost anyone and they wouldn't be offended. But it's hard to imagine Beach House being anyone's favorite band. For that reason, ***

I really enjoyed this! A lot of these tracks make it into my general moody/sad/indie autoplays but it was quite a joy to listen it to properly in full. This is truly a bit of me, base level me, a meloncholy indie listen that I think is fun for all.

Robert Dimery: "Guys you have to hear this, it's prime 70s stoner folk rock!" Me: "...this came out in 2009." Nice aesthetic, hardly must-hear. Whereas most of what I support on this list is ahead of its time or unique, this is neither.

A nice indie sounding album, quintessential 2010s sounding. I’d listen to it again and it was great to listen to while I worked on a project.

literally screamed when i saw that this album was on here. love it!

This band just makes me feel things. An incredible sort of nostalgia for a time I should be living right now, rather than times past. I love how evoking this album is of a lazy summer afternoon, it just feels so cozy and comforting. Of course atmosphere is important for a Dream Pop album, but the songwriting doesn't leave anything to be desired. There are little hooks all over that reveal themselves over several listens. Without noticing, they just sneak up on you. Beach House are often levied the accusation of making the same album over and over again, like AC/DC. But I don't think that's true at all. While their first two albums sound pretty alike, this was were they leveled up as band in terms of production value to produce the final form of that early sound. After this they've only evolved even further, whether it be the nighttime counterpart to this album, Bloom, or the even dreamier and artsier Depression Cherry. Later we got 7 and the sprawling double album Once Twice Melody, which see the band operating at the peak of their creative powers, expanding their sound palette into both rockier and poppier territories, including some great inclusion of subtle electronic elements. I highly recommend all of four of these albums as well. Key tracks: Zebra Norway Walk in the Park Used to Be Take Care

I'm surprised I wasn't on this in 2010 as it was very much me at the time. It very much fills that post pop punk into indie popularity time. Absolutely can see this on the One Tree Hill soundtrack which is a compliment in my end. Didn't hit as much as I wanted it too, but still a good album
