Reviews (page 6 of 9)
Enjoyable indie dream pop. By design, not something that will blow you away.
Ethereal, shoegaze, tranquil, and an intriguing listen. It runs a bit together to capture my attention but I do think it’s pretty.
Nice and mellow, but bland This record was my seconds recommendation from the „One Album a Day“-Website, offering one record each from the 1001 you must hear before you die book. I thought it was disappointing, and this wasn't owing to my expectations. The music doesn't hurt, but it doesn't do much for me either. It's all nice and mellow, but at the same time a bit boring and bland, as there's a lack of dynamics and expression. It's all pretty samey, midtempo and plenty of keyboards, not a lot of varation on offer. Beach House certainly have a unique sound one easily recognizes, but that doesn't make for a great record. In other words, I wonder why „Teen Dream“ is part of the 1001-albums-collection. Maybe I wasn't listening close enough to the lyrics? ;-) However, any record on this list should be worthwhile in musical, not necessarily lyrical terms. With „Teen Dream“, I don't get it.
HOMETOWN HEROES! In true Beach House fashion, each song stands alone, but also blends perfectly into the next to make you feel like you're floating in a dreamland. Bloom and Depression Cherry have more of my heart, but this album was far from a waste of my time.
Very dreamy sounding, thanks to the vocals of Victoria Legrand and the organ/keyboards heard all throughout. Not much else to say here, it's mellow and somewhat remains in that early 2010s indie pop mold that most either love or hate.
I wasn't familiar with this band but I enjoyed this more than I expected. A little shoegazy for my taste at times, but overall an enjoyable listen.
don’t really get the hype
This was better than I was initially expecting from a group I'd never heard of. It makes for a great unintrusive background listen.
Silver Soul is a song I've listened to before, partially because it was sampled in Money Trees by Kendrick Lamar, but I liked their original song a lot as well. This album was very indie, but I think it was missing a little something to take it to a 4 for me, but still a solid album imo.
Generic indie album.
Серая, ничем не примечательная, незапоминающаяся музыка
Don't got a ton to say about it. 10 years ago might have been a 4, but not really looking for this kinda indie rock right now, personally.
Not bad, but not great. I find with Beach House generally but with this album in particular, the sound is almost TOO cohesive? Just did the Foo Fighters self-titled yesterday and ran into the same problem - it's mastery over a distinct sound but at what cost? Many of the songs on this project feel like they don't have their own identity necessarily but only exist as an extension of the album in-full. A nice listen nonetheless, but I feel like there's a fine line between loving and hating Beach House. Would love to give this a 3.5/5 but this stupid website doesn't allow for half ratings
It sounds good, it's atmospheric but it didnt really interest me.
Not unpleasant, but quite boring

It's good, but I'd rather be listening to Fleet Foxes. 3.5/5
Good morning music. Silver soul and take care
I've had a fair few albums similar to this - similar in terms of tempo and atmosphere - and they've all just been boring. They aren't terrible by any means, but nothing sticks to make it memorable. The best way to describe these would be inoffensive, I guess
Not bad
Easy listening but quite boring. 3 stars or C-.
It’s alright
Dreamy pop. Actually quite liked it
Mixed feelings on this one. There were bits that were quite atmospheric and then bits where it had a bit of an affected nonchalance that made it drift into boring. Evened out at a 3.
Decent.
some songs are good. but I find some of it a little bit anonym.
3/5
Wow, the more that I listened to this the more I liked it, and it's not the type of music I usually listen to.
better than the last indie album
Perfectly encapsulates the sound of 2010
I bought the follow up album - Bloom - first time around and enjoyed it a lot - even though songs all sounded very similar. Not that surprised therefore that the songs on Teen Dream also sound very similar. Unfortunately in the years that have passed I have kinda moved on and find it all a bit flat and monotone and lacking passion. Its certainly not bad - just all on a level that never really goes places.
Very consistent dreampop album, with only a few dips in quality. Unfortunately, it also lacks notable highlights that would give it a higher score. While the flow of the album is enjoyable, many of the songs feel somewhat interchangeable. After listening to it three times, I'm still unsure which tracks I would consider favourites.
Like the atmosphere created here. Kind of updated shoegaze, with more electronica. Only after some songs it gets a bit boring though. Songs lack variation for the album to really take off.. imo..
Calm indie music. Not a lot stood out during one listen.
Not really sold on Beach House. Pretty generic dream pop, way too overpolished for its own good. Better stuff like this out there - still like a 6/10 though. Also somebody please tell Wikipedia editors that not every album with reverb is Shoegaze, because this is about as Shoegaze as Frank Sinatra is Death Metal.
Super chill indie dream pop record. I remember listening to this in college and thinking it was pretty cool. Listening to the whole thing right now is making me realize it's a bit boring. It's dreamy and vibey but there isn't really a lot going on.
I am unfamiliar with this group, although I learned I am following them and liked 3 of their songs (sharing a Spotify account with my daughter). At first I wasn’t sure I was going to find much that interested me, but this album kind of grew on me as I listened to it. I’m not sure I’d choose to go back to it, but it’s not bad.
If you're willing to soak up the indie rock atmosphere dripping from this album, you'll have a good time. But don't come here looking for ear worms and loads of hooks; it ain't about that. Future Beach House records will manage to deliver on both!
Beach House crafts a hazy sonic landscape where dreamy dirges shimmer momentarily before dissolving into sonic wallpaper.
I did have to check that I hadn't put on Fleet Foxes instead; it's got that same sort of dreamy, ethereal feel to it. A nice listen though.
Nice! I'll have to give this a couple more listens. 3.5/5
Gentle background music, some decent tracks
Good
This album was nice enough but not something I would probably return to.
Melo
I hated this on first listen but it grew on me a bit the second time. Still kinda dull though and I won’t be listening again
I liked their first quite a lot, but have since had my fill of 2010s dream pop. It's good, just not very interesting to me right now.
This was fine, but didn't seem special to me. Nothing hooked me. It was fine mood music, to have on while you're doing other stuff, but I don't think anything about this will have me coming back.
Nice melodic pop album. Not terribly memorable but nicely done.
Not bad. Pretty standard millennial pop but some has a bit of a Death Cab and Fleet Foxes vibe.
Ahhh, to be in the 2010's again. Such an innocent time with whiny, depressing music.
Dream pop. Not unpleasant, but it just washes over me - no memorable hooks or melodies. Supermarket muzak.
Kind of beautiful. I'll never listen to it again.
Everyone knows Space Song. Other than that, I'd only ever listened to the Bloom album. So Teen Dream really fell flat of that and is a disappointment in comparison. It's not awful or anything, but it's a solid 2.5 at best. But, since Beach House has been pretty good on another albums, I'm going to round up instead of down in this case.
At first I thought that this was gonna be pretty good, because the first song or two had a great sound, was nicely edgy and rocky, but then the rest of the album was kinda just like indie pop, atmospheric, mellow stuff. The production and music was good, but just not really my genre. Three stars.
I'm into it!
Pretty nice.
ok
Only listened to the first few songs but it was chill vibes. Nice background music.
Pas un gros fan, mais en musique de background ça passe crème
Sounds like 2010. Also sounds like their predecessors like bon iver and fleet foxes. Nothing really great for me here except the sound of the era.
I think I've really liked every Beach House song I heard before so I had really high expectations, and yeah sure it is nice dream pop but it's not doing much outside of being "nice dream pop", album felt a bit empty although I did like Walk in the Park and getting to relisten to Silver Soul
It's a very 'languishing' sound if that makes sense? Obviously a really good voice but not very capturing. I will say -the more I listened the more it warmed on me (maybe it just needs a relisten) and I really like that they give you space at the end of the final track; it's so annoying then the next thing just starts playing with no breathing room. I liked Norway the best I think.
It was good. Kept listening to Better times. Had more potential in my opinion.
beautiful angel pulled apart at birth
Albumi #40, 06.09.2024 Dream popia soittava Beach House on melko uusi tuttavuus. Teen Dream on bändin kolmas albumi ja ihan kelvollinen sellainen.
I wasn’t expecting to like this album…its from a time that if I hadn’t heard it, I wouldn’t like it. This was very good and I really enjoyed it. I will go back and listen to more of their music and will likely to listen to it again. One question, why does this have to be listened to before you die…I can’t see where this is groundbreaking or innovative, it’s just a pretty good album. not sure I get how some of these albums end o\up on this list.
Fine album, never been terribly interested in Shoegaze music but it's pretty clear these musicians are talented. She has a great voice for this music - the music is just a little too sleepy for me. I was surprised to hear that Money Trees sample
Y'know, maybe I had wrong expectations going into this. 'Cuz when I read that this thing with dream pop, my mind jumped to the example it always does: The Flaming Lips, circa THE SOFT BULLETIN and YOSHIMI BATTLES THE PINK ROBOTS. And those are both masterpieces of their times, so it's probably not fair, either, to compare this album to those. But I listen to this thing, and, like, honestly, there really isn't too much of a comparison? Like, it's dreamy in parts, although nothing to the extent that BULLETIN or YOSHIMI could be. Y'know, there's no "Buggin'" or "In The Morning Of The Magicians". Frankly, I think I'd hafta stand with what I've seen so many other people say and call this thing more "2010's indie." Which, if you consider that a knock against this album, it might just be a "blaming SHREK for all the terrible kids movies that came out after it" situation? Or maybe not; I haven't heard enough 2010's indie music to say. But just judging this... Pff, yeah, I'unno. It's fine. Kendrick Lamar got a good sample out of it, but otherwise... I'unno, I'm just waiting for THE SOFT BULLETIN to show up.
I’m right at a 3. I don’t really know what to say – it’s definitely early 2010s indie rock. I’m not that willing to give it glowing praise, but it’s not a bad album at all, it’s just not my thing. To expound on this a little, it’s got great instrumentals across the board here – an incredibly relaxing album to listen to, and I appreciate the sort of minimalism and free-flowing vibe it has going for it. I think the vocals are pretty good, if a little too… I don’t wanna say “unmotivated,” but they don’t feel as emotionally driven as they could be, but with these lyrics, it does run the risk of sounding too cheesy if you overdo it, so I’m probably just being nitpicky towards my tastes. Honestly, I guess I don’t really have any flaws with this. There’s not a bad song here, and everything’s good. It just never captivated me that much. To put it bluntly, it’s a car album. It’s the type of album you put on during a long drive and you just calm your spirits to it. It’s not the type of album you intently listen to and try to break down the meaning of, because with too much focus, this album kind of crumbles on some of its more relaxing and hypnotic moments in the soundscape. We’ve had a few albums before that qualify as “car albums” to me, but this is probably the most blatant example of one thus far. Again, though, it’s not bad, it’s just not my thing. It’s certainly no less than a 3, I’ll say that. For my tastes, it is a 3, but this could easily be a 4 or a 5 for someone else. Maybe I’ll listen to it on a drive and see if it gets the bump.
Very vibes, very nice. Reminds me of early college days where a bunch of bands hit really big but none made it to that “next” level. Too early before the bands really knew how to take control of Internet power but too late to make it on traditional radio.
I listened to the album but it didn't really move me.
ethereal and synth heavy. not bad, but i don’t think i’ll be listening to this again.
Light and airy but not very memorable.
This album really just wasn't all that memorable or impressive to me. It's perfectly fine, but not something I see myself choosing to play again.
Very sweet, soft, cuddly pop. Not for me, but not bad. Very inoffensive in any way.
Fine but boring
Morose and kind of repetitive. Would do a 3.5 if possible bc the singer went to Vassar and the second song is sampled in “Money Trees” which is a fire song.
An ethereal, calm, easy to listen to album. 3.5/5.
Strong start, tending mid
Rauhallista indie rockia. Ihan jees, mutta vähän ehkä keskinkertaista. Ok kokonaisuus, mutta yksittäisiä kappaleita ei oikein pompannut. Parhaat: Used To Be
For about half the album, I really thought this was going to crack four stars, but unfortunately it just sounded a bit too similar track to track. Beautiful music and very enjoyable to listen to, but would want to listen to more of them before rating them higher
This album is a high 3 or a low 4 based on my ratings so far. I enjoyed it. I thought the first three songs (specifically “Norway”) were excellent. Great vibes for a hump day album. Even better for a chill boat cruising day or some adventuring.
There are a lot of things to love here. These people know how to create great sense of atmosphere. Overall, though, the sounds blend into a kind of sameness that ends up being a bit disorienting, like a landscape with landmarks. There is no tension / release dynamic here - maybe that is makes this music so strange - songs are floating and ebbing into each other. It was good for a stretch, then I got a bit seasick.
Pleasant enough.
The vibe of all vibes. This is the perfect rainy weather album. Mixing here is incredible, I always felt like the piano and drums were right next to me. My biggest issue with album's like this is some of the songs just end up being forgettable. Maybe that means they're too good at being chill, but it just doesn't work well for my brain. Favorites are Silver Soul, Used to Be, and 10 Mile Stereo
I liked this one, but some of these songs kind of came and went for me. I have a great idea though. First, take the guitar part from Silver Soul, reverse and loop it. Next add some drums, and add some verses from an artist like Kendrick Lamar. Finally add a catchy hook, and one of the best feature verses ever from Jay Rock. I feel like that would make a really good song. Wait…..
Nice vibe, didn't have a ton of attention for it but didn't dislike the listen. Likely a limiting or generous vote based on my day for it but no idea which.
I listened to this during a long drive. Blue skies with the odd puffy white cloud, trees flying by. I was feeling it at first but it quickly felt like I was listening to the same song repeatedly from a slightly different universe. Nice music, but didn't do much for me.
Was ok, a little passive musicwise
Dreamy sound. Enjoyed this album.
Chill but not sure why it's on this list.
Very pleasant. Not quite a 4.
I liked this alright. Wouldn’t be mad if another of theirs came up.
I have never heard the term "Dream Pop" before. It does veer a bit into shoegaze which is NOT my favorite genre of music at all. But I think the vocals have more to do with that than anything, and I was digging on the vocals here. I liked how they worked on this album, it's a pretty good intro for the band, it gives you a good idea of what to expect of them. A number of tracks did start to sound same-y. That's always a bit of a problem for these albums. But still, it was good for what it was, I don't know if it's something I will come back to. Top tracks: "Zebra," "Take Care"
More dream pop? I'm not sure what sets this album apart so much from others in the genre I why it was so critically acclaimed when released. I don't find Victoria Legrand's vocals all that appealing and I don't find her or Alex Scally's playing all that noteworthy. I listened to the album once and thought I should give it another go. But as soon as I went back to the opener Zebra I was a bit turned off. Better Times and maybe Real Love were the only songs I really cared to listen to for any length of time. Overall, not awful. But kind of bland.
I found this album pretty boring, so I decided to check out some YouTube videos to find out what the fuss was. Saw live videos of Space Song and Myth and was so much more impressed with the band. Unfortunately, this album didn't draw me in. All the songs have the same exact dreamy pop-light sound. Pleasant but boring (and I really didn't like the detuning effects in Norway). Liked Used to Be and Lover of Mine. Anyway, moving on.
Fifa 13/14/15/16 music. Good for vibing, nothing that a like extremely
Really Good. Etherial. Reminds me of a band but I can't think of them. 3.5
Dreamy
low-register female vocals, sliding guitar notes, layers of melody and instrumentation, and an effort to evoke nostalgia in the listener make Teen Dream a wonderful mood album. obviously Beach House uses reverb well, obviously the mood leans on descriptors like Dreamy and Ethereal, obviously repetition is one of their primary songwriting tricks. it is a fair criticism to say most Beach House songs sound similar. Actually play out some of the guitar parts to these songs though and you will find the key to what makes these solid tracks: most of BH translates very well to acoustic guitar. most great shoegaze/dream pop does and most bad shoegaze/dream pop does not. at its core shoegaze is rock musics premier guitar-focused genre. it is the genre where guitar is the true "frontman" of the music. With all that said, I don't love this album really. It's full of songs that I wouldn't skip on a playlist but also probably wouldn't seek out on my own. Their next two albums are much more melodically rich in my opinion while this one sets a nice stage for what they will deliver.
I hadn’t heard of Beach House before, so it surprised me when I opened Apple Music to find many curated Beach House playlists. The music reminded me of independent films of the noughties. It wouldn’t surprise me if I was to look at the Juno soundtrack and find something from this album there. I didn’t mind this album, but it felt it to be much more ambient than I’d have liked.
I have a filling this was dinner party listening, non intrusive in the background.
Generic.
3.5
Interesting album. Went in completely blind and was thoroughly pleased. This album has a melancholic/feel good vibe to it. I know that is almost a contradictory statement but that's the best description I could describe this record with. Not as shoe gazey as other shoe gaze records that I've heard, and I think that's an alright thing. No shade to shoe gaze... But this band, compromised of 2 multi instrumentalist members (this record does have guest musicians) really set a tone with honest writing and compositions. Not a long record, but I did think there was a bit of repetition in this record. Some songs sound similar to others.
'Dream pop', huh? I can dig it.
Very nice and very boring. I know I've heard music by this band before.
i cannot tell these songs apart but it was a great listen for multitasking vibes.
Pleasant to listen to while doing errands.
Chill, dreamy, but relatively samey.
Vaguely reminds me of The Mull Historical Society in their pomp, but without the catchiness and hooks. It's OK. I doubt I'd listen again, but it was fine for driving to.
It's not boring but not totally captivating either. Definitely fits the title of "Dream Pop". I like the driving energy of "10 Mile Stereo". I didn't finish this album but only because I got distracted. I wouldn't mind revisiting it.
pretty good
This was interesting. Cool sound.
This does not click with me at all. Through my entire listen, I thought this entire album caters to those who like the generic, white girl music that's used in pretty much every Netflix series. The only track I like is "10 Mile Stereo". But other than that I'm not gonna return to this album anytime soon. 3/5
alright but a bit repetitive zebra silver soul used to be lover of mine 10 mile stereo
This album is fine. 3/5
I liked walk in the park and 10 mile stereo
I really think this list’s excitement about down-tempo indie from the aughts is fascinating.
Fínt og áheyrilegt og truflar mig ekki neitt, en kveikir heldur ekki á neinu, og þá veit ég það að Dream-pop er ekki minn tebolli. Samt þristur frekar en tvistur.
Hadn't listened to this one in a while, but a bit more of a fan of their other work.
Teen Dream is a very apropo name for the album. It’s light, dreamy, beautiful. It just floats along. It’s very Band of Horses but the highs aren’t as high. Side A is very strong, side B doesn’t match it. Worth more listens. 7.1/10
Ok
Love some Beach House dream pop. I actually listened to Depression Cherry this week before this album was revealed. Overall this album is fine but there is nothing as magnificent and captivating as Space Song or Myth. All of their albums are still good for floating and drifting off to.
feels almost like tame impala mixed with synth pop - definitely see the beach house influence on this generation of tik tok stars.
Pleasant, but fairly unremarkable indie pop. Inoffensive, but uninspiring. I did find the interesting modulations on “Norway” to be pretty interesting, and the first track was a promising start, but I ultimately found this to be a fairly run-of-the-mill album. Not sure that I would include it on this list, especially when other great contemporaries are absent (“For Emma, Forever Ago” or “Modern Vampires of the City” come to mind as more consequential and inventive albums from around the same time). I’ve been vacillating between 2 or 3 stars, and think I’ll settle on 3 as I can see this being an album I put on when I want to calm myself, so that’s worth something.
Steady - decent listen.
3/5
Mello hypnotic carnival music.
So dreamy, I nearly fell asleep. 3/5
Atmospheric indie-like pop music. It's alright for what it is, but I'd have to be in a mood for it.
According to Wikipedia, this album was critically acclaimed. I'm not sure why. It's alright, but nothing about it moves me physically or emotionally.
It's nice enough. Chilled, inoffensive, and not too engaging.
3.5
Beach House is described as, Dream indie-Pop and this accurately describes their music. Their music has a beautiful, dreamy quality to it, while at the same time many of the songs go one step further and lulls you to sleep. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, the music is comfortable, non-offensive and easy to listen to with layered depth of synths and cool, breezy vocals. This isn't music to impress your friends or annoy your neighbors you hate, but it might be best listened to on headphones or while your chilling with friends while drifting off to sleep drinking wine. This music will speed up the process, hopefully with a smile on your face while you Teen Dream and enjoy Victoria's soothing voice...
En nyt aivan saa otetta. Tällaista kevyttä puhaltelua. Menee taustalla. Kalliita sointuja. 3/5
Chill summer pop. Band's name and album title all fit the vibe very well. Easily could listen to this on the beach. There's a rich thickness to the music as well that goes beyond a casual listen. While some reviews wrote about it doing nothing special, not every album needs to re-write history.
I enjoyed listening to this album, but nothing about it was great. There wasn't a single track that stood out above the rest.
This time around I looked at previous reviews before submitting my own. I noticed that the most commonly used word to describe Beach House is "nice" -- appearing nearly 100 times as of this date. And I agree. The music is nice ... maybe too nice.
Never hear of, really enjoyed, 3.5 stars.
Pretty good but did not blow me away - 7/10
Fairly enjoyable, although I feel like I might have liked it better if somehow the melodies and sounds and harmonies etc were packaged into songs that were 30-40 bpm faster 7/10
I liked this when it came out. I was into Indie Rock /Pop a lot back then. Don't know if it appeals to me anymore, but there's good stuff in there 2.5/5
Decent album, all kinda sounds the same, but a good vibe and easy listening. Good background music.
I like Beach House, but I don't get how they have put out anything I need to hear before I die.
When this came out, I was at a stage of life that wanted higher energy. So these relaxing thumps didn't really land with me. But they do today,
Mid
It's funny to get this album directly after G.K.M.C. as the song Silver Soul is the sample used in Money Trees by Kendrick. I really like Beach House and this album, but it's the middle child between their two better albums.
Not bad, for me mostly good as background music. It all sounds pretty much the same.
I can't help but feel like Beach House were a 'flavor of the week' kind of band. Pleasant enough to listen to and maybe something you can briefly get very excited about. But longer term, it's kind of forgettable. I really liked 'Norway' and 'Real Love'. The rest is sort of nice and calming background music. Nothing wrong with that but there's also not a lot to hold onto unfortunately. I remember these guys having their moment about a decade ago. I see it but can't imagine them being anyone's all time favorite band.
Nothing that blue me away but nice and easy to listen to. Very indie pop band of the 2010s vibes.
Definitely gives a beach house vibe. It’s not something I would actively listen to again, but it’s a great album for background.
Perfectly pleasant album. Great background music to relax at a beach house.
Kind of one dimensional but I can see where this would fit some moods/situations. Reminds me of relaxing music you would hear in a waiting room, spa , or meditation space. A high 2, but closer to 3 than 2.5 so I’ll round up.
10 mile stereo is a stand out track for me here.
Un lindo disco, crea un ambiente entretenido y con cierta naturaleza por momentos.
I’ve only heard songs here and there over the years from Beach House and always found them enjoyable. Listening to their album front to back confirmed for me that their whispy, dreamy synth rock remains pleasant, yet strangely forgettable. This album will probably find its way into my background music catalogue.
This album title was inspired by my nickname in high school. Not a bad listen but I’m not sure why this stands out in the genre.
I was not expecting Beach House to show up in this exercise. I like Beach House…but admittedly it is typically background music for work, etc. Not sure I’ve ever really intently listened to any of their stuff. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy this album, just not sure it’s deserving of a 4*, so I’m rounding down. 3.5/5
Bit same same
3- Stars (7/15)
Inoffensive back ground music.
it was the same noie from start to finish but it was decent noise
Good, if a bit meandering at times
Blind album, know the artist. Pretty much more of what I expected from this artist that I have previously heard. Not my favorite but not bad.
This reminds me of a modern version of Cocteau Twins. I would have expected to like it, but I just can't stand the singer. Their voice does not suit the music, it is mixed to loud, and doesn't blend well with the rest of the instruments. They also pronounce some words weird (but it is 1000 times easier to understand than the enchanting table lyrics of the Cocteau Twins). If the vocals were turned down around 15-20% in the mix I might have given this a higher rate. There are some good moments, but just as many forgettable ones. Instruments: 5/5 Singing: 2/5 2.5/5
Manages to encapsulate the feeling of dream pop without being too lightweight. A good listen.
Perfect office background music that nobody will hate.
Musica Chill, no esta mal. Pero no hay nada sorprendente.
I feel like this should be perfect for me, but something just isn't clicking 3.5/5
great vibe. silver soul makes me wanna give it a 4 but i don’t think I can.
Not enjoying this at all. Maybe if I heard more about the context. Sounded better later.
Dream pop. I like it in smaller doses, or as part of a mix, but listening to an entire album is too much of the same for me.
shoegaze is shoegaze is shoegaze. Like how subpop will always be subpop.
For the first few listens I really didn't find anything that stood out. Like I thought 'this is stuff I should like, but it's washing over me'. Then this morning, some of the songs starting to stick. Favourite tracks: Silver Soul, Norway, Walk in the Park, Lover of Mine, Take Care.
First three songs remind me why I loved this stuff back in the day but it lost me after a while.
It was mostly pleasant, but it washed right over me. There was nothing memorable.
You can tell this came out in 2010 without being told. If you want a trip back in time to what was trending from 2010 to around 2014 or so then you can't go wrong with this
My least favorite Beach House album. They got better later
First, this isn't my preferred genre. It's kind of like an ethereal poppy kind of indie rock ... Hard to pin a genre on it. But I don't hate it. Every song seems to have its own identity, they are well produced, and there's a lot going on to hear. This sounds like stuff you'd hear in a rom-com or coming-of-age movie. This won't see much play from me because it's just not my genre, but it's really not bad at all. I was intrigued to see that a song on a different album by this group had nearly a billion streams on Spotify, so I listened to that one too (Space Song). It could fit on this album seamlessly. And it got it's listens after going viral on TikTok and being featured on the show 'Wednesday', so the rom-com / coming-of-age comment wasn't far off the mark.
Yep, it's dream pop. It's fine, I guess.
Nothing to like and nothing not to like. Airport music.
I had never heard of this band before. I thought I was listening to Nico at first - not just the voice, but the style of the lead vocals as well. I really liked Zebra & Norway. It’s an easy listen.
Totally fine. Norway, I like. It’s not great or offensive. I would have been fine not listening to this in my lifetime. 3/5
Sopii hyvin aamuun 🤌🏼 Ihan chills oli, 3/5 Kiva piristys, jokseenkin tuttu bändi
Pretty but kinda slow
Just not my music, wasn't bad though
Overall a bit too plodding in pace for my liking. The songs Silver Souls and Used to Be were good though.
Not for me, but good.
Decent.
Not bad...
hypnotic dream pop
Easy-listening album but, again, nothing that stuck out enough to make me eager to revisit. Probably a good "background music during a wine night on the couch" album.
Songs run together a bit to much for me. That "etheral background hum" that pervades music of this era doesn't grab me.
Not bad, not good
Easy listening but not particularly engaging. Sounded like something my mom would listen to but being played from the other room while I do something else. Liked a few songs though and it made nice background music.
:l
Dream Pop aka Shoegaze. Meh!
Not my style.
I liked letting this album wash gently over me. Synthy bedroom dream pop goes down smooth in the background of a deep work sesh without really drawing one's attention. I think Zebra was my favorite
pleasant but not particularly memorable. better times my favorite but i couldn't pick out another tune if it was played for me and i have access to the song titles.
Album was minder mijn ding dan sommige andere nummers van ze.
Sehr chillig
This is a very strong 3, I liked it a lot. It's very sentimental though which isn't usually for me. I feel like this one might grow on me over time
Nice soft rock album, they remind me alot of monsters and men. Then again, I also think monsters and men captured this sound better. Favorite track was 10 mile stereo
Indie easy-listening. Enjoyable background music, nothing really sticks out. Nothing is great, but nothing is unenjoyable.
I wasn't aware of this group, but it was a pleasant surprise. This album provides some solid chillwave tunes. Nothing about it strikes me as uniquely exceptional or influential, but I enjoyed listening to it and certainly wouldn't turn down the opportunity to listen to it again.
I'll probably never listen to this again, but it was decent.
Pretty songs. The words would probably break my heart if I could make any of them out from the reverb.
Soothing and atmospheric. Not bad.
It all sounds the same to me, just inoffensive background music. Not good, not bad. I understand why people like it but I never found a way in.
It feels like it has a lot of things that I like but it just doesn't come together for me. Fades into the background
This was a record I listened too while moping a floor. It served its purpose
I do like Beach House but this album was somewhat forgettable
It’s good. Not great. Some are bad but it’s alright enough
It all sounds the same. Boring but some might like this genre
One of the more tolerable shoegazey albums I've ever heard. Can't say I'd listen to it for pleasure, but I didn't mind listening to it either.
Never heard about this band, and I've already forgotten about them again.
Not a band I had heard of. It was interesting enough to make me think I’ll explore their discog a bit deeper.
Pretty solid indie rock. Not my fav genre by any means and this one didn’t stand out enough to change my mind very much. Fav song: Silver Soul
Standard beach house, it’s decent music but it sounds exactly the same as all their other albums
69/100
Ambient mood album with some poppy elements. It's fine. 3.4.
Middle of the road
I enjoy the atmospherics of this album but the notes (and eventually the songs) are indistinguishable and start to become tedious after a little bit. I was hoping for better because, while I don’t know this album, I do really like Space Song from the album Depression Cherry.
Idk lite enformigt nog trevligt. Tror beach house är bäst i små doser
Chill Vibes, 6/10
Absolutely gorgeous album. This is the one that got me into Beach House. Unfortunately, they were the absolute worst live band I have ever seen. That's definitely colored my perception of them unfortunately. In spite of that, I still really appreciate this album.
Some nice sounds here but nothing that sticks out.
Quite calm, liked some 3-4/5
Again with the half stars. 7 out of 10 for this one.
Good Album, A little repetitive, nice vocals, wish they were a little more experimental.
It’s cute
Easy listening 3/5
Niet geluisterd, maar ken deze wel.
Roc Pop, some synths. Good to relax. 2,5 stars. Up to 3.
Sounds ethereal, a lot of synth ( i think) is good, but not really for me
Not really a fan of this genre of music, but there were some tracks that I enjoyed. Overall it seems like a standard alternative/indie album that is reminiscent of the 2010s. Favorite song: "Silver Soul"
Was fluctuating between a 3 and a 4. Settled on 3 for it's seeming "genericness". Overall I enjoyed the album great one to have on in the background while working, but seemed to serve better as background music than a powerful album.
It was ok but the songs all got a bit samey by the end. I might enjoy it more after listening a few times
Not something I’d ever heard of but it was pleasant enough. 3*
Nice and chill, but not outstanding. Would be good music to read to.
Of the various shimmery indie pop albums from this time period, this is the one I can still fluff with. Used to listen to it on planes to keep myself chill
A bit soft and it all blurred together for me but overall not too shabby
reminded me of band of horses’ “no one’s gonna love you”. good
Some great songs. Only one tbat really stuck.
It was fine. Nothing groundbreaking to me. 3/5.
Ok chill album
Fine and worth a listen but not worth coming back to
This album has a soft, transient sound to it. The lyrics are poetic and abstract, which isn't usually my thing. But they sync the lyrics and music to convey a reflective mood. I enjoyed it.
I wonder if I'd have liked it better if I was in a different mood? It wasn't the right vibe for Friday afternoon.
This feels like a "vibes" kind of record and for whatever reason I'm not on their wavelength. Fine for background at a dinner party, but not something I'm going to listen to.
Nice easy stuff, great singing and music.
I wasn't really expecting Beach House to be on this list, not that I'm a huge fan of them or anything (or have heard any songs beyond Space Song). I think this is an album you really have to be in a mood to listen to, and I was not in that mood today. Some good songs I legit enjoyed, but I don't find myself craving more of any of the songs when they end.
Muutama tosi hyvä biisi
Een mooi album maar niet helemaal aan mij besteed. Ik vond het op het begin erg saai maar ik begon het naarmate het album voortduurde meer te waarderen. Veel mooie nummers maar wel erg melancholisch.
Seems like a good album for cruising or road tripping to. Pretty melancholy. At times it just sounds like the same song but in a different key.
Unfortunately this isn't an album with any appeal, but seeing other reviews this is just a personal preference. Even so I can't see how it's worthy of this list - there are experimental tracks and technically well finished but with a fairly similar pace, tone, and without any standout tracks with a spark or hook to make it memorable.
it didn't grab me
Whelmed
The album strikes a pleasing balance between the newer and older beach house vibes, with elements reminiscent of the iconic Silver Soul sound. While it starts strong with a standout track, it seems to lose its direction towards the end, making it a decent but not necessarily my top pick from Beach House's discography.
Background music for your next #vanlife video on YouTube.
Music that floats and drifts, catching you in its wispy melodies and airy textures. Yes from minute to minute it recedes into the background sometimes, but that's not a bad thing always. Not a bad thing here.
Cool album, nice vibes!
Chill
Was ok. Not outstanding
Bit boring but pleasant to listen to. Makes you feel welcome
I enjoyed the chill vibe of the album. It had a bunch of good songs, but I got a little board of hearing the same sound.
It’s alright not really my style. Very dreamy shoegazey soft mellow
Atmospheric and relaxing, beautifully dissonant. Enjoyed.
A lovely listen, with languid, melancholy arrangements. The vocals are occasionally flat, but overall this was enjoyable. Fave Songs: Zebra, Silver Soul, Walk in the Park, Norway, Better Times
This is a good dream-pop ambient album, but wouldn't be regularly rotated by me.
вообще почти ничего не поняла, надо продолжать слушать. какой-то альбом бич хауса у меня есть в ротации
Pretty boring. I get that is the genre, but I just couldn't find anything interesting about it
Never heard of this band/duo, but this is reasonable to listen to.
Forgettable
Eh not for me
Mellow and melodic and also forgettable.
Mildly pleasant Dream Pop. Favourite track: Better Times.
Kinda meh album, didn't really see anything that bore influence on later music and wasn't really enthralled with it
Good album, but was pretty inconsistent in quality and got a little drab at times.
Belle voix, mélodieux, mais les arrangements et l’ambiance un peu mélancoliques ne m’ont pas semblé originaux
Pleasant but hard to stick. Sounds a bit dated late noughties indie, and while polished and sleek, it’s very wishwashy.
Pretty good album, didn't blow me away.
Pretty good but not quite enough to convince me to buy the album.
Really liked the unusual music. Just quirky enough to stand out.
Har aldrig hört bandet förut men man har ändå hört det förut. Fullt godkänt dock.
All sounds the same but pleasant
Very shoegaze feel, melodic and introspective. I think it’s an Blum for when you are in the mood for that type of sound 6/10
I thought I really liked this album but it turns out I really really like 4 songs on it. There's a big run of unmemorable tracks after the first three, 10 Mile Stereo is an obvious stand out after those, Real Love is nice. Oddly for a double album, Once Twice Melody is more consistently good than this and I would rate it much higher now having gone back.
Behagelig, men ikke så spennende
It’s Carer’s week in the UK. So Take Care is apt. It’s also near enough the best of the bunch, apart from Lover of Mine. It’s easy, pleasant music, very much like a cut-price Flaming Lips but not as good. Mmm - significantly unmemorable. A classic 2.5.
This was pleasant enough. hard to get too excited about the strange blend of Tones & I and My Morning Jacket (at least in places), a little low emotional energy to get super fired up, and toward the end, there were a couple of songs/passages that actually got annoying. But, the name implied the sound and I could almost feel the sand blowing into my face as I walked along the dunes.
Nice enough. Reminds me of Mazzy Star a bit. Nothing to get terribly excited about, but I suspect if I gave this more spins I'd dig it more. The second or third song had some cool tremolo action, giving me a buzz from all the microtones. Other than that, not much to report.
The beginning of my listening session this wasn't grabbing my attention and I kept zoning out to the point I restarted some songs. Went for a walk and cleared my head while listening and I found my opinion changing. I'm not in a good mental space these days so I can't say anything substantive about this album. I liked it.
Mellow. A bit droll and repetitive, but good vibes and relaxing.
Pretty average Beach House album. Kinda wish it had some heavy hitters like their later works.
3.5
