not my style
i did not know about this band till this album was recommended to me. but i lowk see why
Fine, but not really remarkable.
I thought I'd like this more, but it's kind of meh.
Not bad, but not my kind of music.
It was okay
I’ve just read that this is The Doors’ fifth album, but to be honest, I’m not familiar with it. I think the music is decent, especially the ‘bluesy’ tracks...
Hasn't aged well
It was ok I guess? Not their best album, not a style of music I dig really either.
Catchy at points but not enough ideas to capture me

Doors don't do it for me
This is the second album by The Doors in a week. “LA Woman” was pretty bad. This is better, but still not great. I understand why some people might enjoy this, but it’s just not for me. I didn’t enjoy listening to it.
So the real Morrison Hotel is just one block from where I live on S. Hope Street in downtown LA. I had no idea of that until the vagrants who live in that abandoned building started a fire that nearly brought the whole thing down the day after Christmas 2024. There is next to no information about that building on google which is kind of fascinating. Much more fascinating than this album which sounds more or less improvised.
snoozefest
It’s classic Doors, which is fine. 2.6/5.0
Waiting for the Sun is good and Peace Frog is one of the best The Doors songs ever made, pretty good progressive pop. If only the rest of the album was as good
It's a Doors record...
As much as I can understand why someone would be a fan of the doors, I am simply not moved by them. Their musicianship is clear, but I have never come away from listening to them with any kind of enthusiasm. Jim Morrison has a crazy model face tho which is funny. -Ruby Some classic songs on here from a bygone era but overall pretty mediocre. —Noah
Meh
too hippy for my liking
Nope. Thought I was a fan of The Doors, but this album was not the one. I found it annoying. Also, it felt like they were trying too hard and amateurish? Not sure that's the correct verbiage but the point is that it was less than impressive. No standouts. 02-08-2026
I don't care for the Doors much. I was hoping this album might get me into them. It did not. This album is ok.
Mid. I don't like blues. Some catchy songs tho
Never liked The Doors
Half listened, nothing special
Didn’t enjoy it
2,5 stjerner. Jeg vil ikke si at det er dårlig, men heller ikke helt min smak. enkelte segmenter er kule men hele albumet i ett så er det noe masete.
hmmm lethargic and I don't know how but it sounds like the morrison hotel would be super dusty, dim even. Waiting for the sun is okay. maybe this music is something that you just had to be there to get it, otherwise I can't discern the sparkle...
Oh good grief. Just no! Could not hear the lyrics. Don't like this at all. Never did.
It’s the doors need I say more … Okay then I will. As interesting as the combination of organ and guitar combined with Morrisons strong rock voice should be they still manage to make it dull as hell I own 1 doors album , the best of the doors , and that is like 3 sides to many.
Another doors album on the list what the heck! Jim Morrison really did that I guess. Another solid classic rock album but nothing notable for me. I was listening while grocery shopping and it was some nice background noise to combat the chaos that was market basket right before a snow storm
the doors more like the bores
didn’t like sadly
Love the cover. music is crap!
Not bad but kinda boring, I’ll need to come back and give it another shot. Probably with the rest of the Doors’ discography.
about neutral on this one. I get the vibe, its just not mine. but I don't dislike it either. 2.5 if I could.
Some good music. A lot of dumb lyrics and drunk ego bs.
The Doors are simply not for me.
Some alright songs like Waiting for the Sun but also some I hated. Overall still not the type of music I would listen to and a lot more songs I dislike than like.
'Heavier' than I expected in some songs for want of a better word, I know that the 60s and 70s were defining eras for early rock so I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised I'd just always thought The Doors would be more akin to something like the carpenters than to anything else, though I have no reason as to why I thought this. Interesting mix of instruments, not often you hear the likes of pianos and harmonicas alongside electric guitars and it doesn't sound too bad but unfortunately I found the singing uninteresting and not that great all things considered, particular in the louder more 'shouty' songs. Blue Sunday was enjoyable, but beyond that it was nothing special, little to say about other songs specifically. 46/100
I've never been the biggest The Doors fan. I like a few of their singles. Especially the ones that have gone on to become iconic needle drops in cinema. Hard to deny the visceral impact of "This is the end" in Apocalypse Now. But none of that is here. I do not really like Morrison Hotel.
unremarkable
Good album just not my type of music nor favorite tome of genre. Very much rock and blues type of album. All in all, still a decent album.
Honestly mid, I mean my opinion is probably highly influenced by the fact that I was doing maths while listening to it so I wasn’t really focused on the music. Probably should give it a second listen.
its like fine, would probably use it as background for a movie or sum
My third Doors album on this list. Third. There’s no Whitehouse, Naked City or Death on this list but there are THREE Doors albums. Maybe there’s more, who knows? As per my other Doors reviews, there’s nothing remarkable or brilliant about this. Nothing that has really stood the test of time and it was an absolute chore to get through.
Jim Morrison has taught us all that it's possible to simultaneously do way too much heroin and have your head be way too far up your own ass.
Morrison Hotel is filled with bluesy melodies and a psychedelic rock undertone, making it an enjoyable listen even if it’s not my favourite Doors album.
Its the Doors, what else is there to say. And I dont say that as a compliment. The only good songs they have are their greatest hits. Majority of the time their songs go on way longer then needed and Jim Morrison has one of the biggest egos in music history. All this band did was take elementary level song writing and put it over the musical equivalent of masturbating. Just get a best of album and avoid this
1/6/2026 So it was fine. Nothing stood out really. But it was fun to learn about The Doors, Morrison, and their broader influence.
From the couple songs I've heard before listening to this album, I guess it was kind of a letdown. It was just kind of loud nonsense — probably made sense to him, at the time.
mehhhhhhh
Damn, I really wish this album had more variation. Some songs just sounded the same to me. The Doors is amazing but this is just not my favourite album from them.
Really didn’t do it for me
I have a soft spot for the doors, I was really into them in high school and even though I’ve kind of grown past them, I still have a nostalgic enjoyment of some of their music. I said all that to say this album was rough. Don’t get me wrong, Waiting for the Sun and Peace Frog are two of their best songs. Everything else on here is pretty bad. I like psychedelic weird Doors, not bar band Doors, and a lot of this was boring blues rock. The other songs were weirdly sentimental ballads that really showcase how Morrison’s poetry wasn’t always great.
I did enjoy this more bluesy sound from the doors. Kind of mid but fun one-time listen.
Energizing, perfect for a fast long walk
Not my genre at all. I see the appeal but just not for me, I could revisit in a few years though
I can't help it, the Doors are not for me. It's the band's sound, in particular the organ, it's the songs, and overall, I just don't get it.
Started with a bang, but faded quickly. The revisionist history that the Doors were just okay seems to be deserved. 2.5
it was okay just not my type of music
Mid album. At least the songs were varied.
I recognize some of these songs or at least snippets. But it isn’t something I’d revisit Peace Frog sounds like Smells Like Teen Spirit 2.75
I thought this album was entirely forgettable. Nothing stood out to me at all. The grooves are nice, some decent vocal moments, decent production. Everything else was in one ear out the other. Not for me. Genuinely can't think of anything else to say about it. 2/5.
Meh
Not for me
I remember hearing "Roadhouse Blues" on the radio once and begging my dad to tell me who that was. The Doors have never sounded better to me than that first time, and in particular this album doesn't really stack up to all of that. Manzarek's organ is still the star, but it just doesn't do much here to interest me.
Upon revealing this album my first thought was that I don’t like The Doors. After sitting down with this album, trying to put aside my biases and listen with an open mind, I still don’t like The Doors. Taken out of the context of the reported importance the band had on the development of counterculture, this is middling blues rock with an above average frontman, but one whose importance is I think greatly overstated due to him dying young. I get the feeling when I see these lists of supposedly essential records with a heavy bias towards the 60s and 70s it’s just because these lists are largely written by white dudes who were around then and have the access to be published in magazines or in books. And this stuff just reflects the music of their youths, the stuff they were really into before the pressures of every day life, the careers, the families, the bill payments and mortgages took over too many waking moments. I totally get it, I feel the same way about a lot of the music that was around when I was younger and that felt formative in my development as a person, but I don’t think that gives any of it an objective value either. At least Morrison Hotel isn’t very long.
Peace frog is a jam. Didn’t finish, got bored halfway through!
Good effort, the songs weren't there
Mostly misses
Unbelievably lame
Nah. I like the Doors but this album simply isn't it. None of the songs caught my attention.
Not a bad album just very dated.
This is a band I haven't listened to a lot, but that I came into not liking based on what I have heard over the years. This album did nothing to change my mind. I don't like their muddy sound and heavy-sounding instrumentation. The first track was a mediocre blues, and the final was a decent minor blues. Outside of those two, I thought it was a slog.
This one is just meh. Even among Doors albums.
It has all the elements of great blues-rock, but the pieces just don't add up to great songs.
Some innovative sounds for 1970, but still a good amount of misses on this.
Are the Doors victims of my having too much bluesy guitars shit recently? Doing nothing for me - I've always thought the Doors were overrated, but I'll admit I've only heard the hits. This isn't doing anything to change my mind. They definitely nailed their formula and are tight enough but frankly I just don't care. Morrison's supposed reputation as a lyrical genius is a mistake. Mercifully short.
I have more respect for Jim Morrison and The Doors than I did coming into this record. Overall the album is good, especially the songs not overplayed on Classic Rock radio. I am still not a fan though.
What can be said about this other than: "It's the doors." Overplayed, boring and barely worth talking about.
can't get over the lack of bass and jim morrison whipping it out on stage
It was pretty good. The keyboard can sound so dinky on this record
It's easy to hate on the Doors and Jim Morrison's Lizard King tortured-poet horseshit, and it's not wrong, necessarily. I knew none of the songs from this album, but it definitely gave me a sense of his charisma as a frontman and vocalist. That's something. I still don't think I'll listen to this again though.
Roadhouse Blues is a classic. Going on the playlist. Peace frog was pretty good too. I never really got into the Doors. People seem to like him, but the last album on here was nearly unlistenable. This one is better. But still not for me.
It’s funny to me how an album with 26 tracks can have zero filler songs and an album with only 10 tracks can have 10 filler songs. This album is the latter.
I didn’t expect to say this, but I’m less annoyed by this than I was the debut album. It’s certainly not because Jim Morrison sounds any less arrogant (I mean, the whole album is named after him this time!), but I guess he’s actually earned some of it by this stage of his career. His audible disinterest has the effect of making him sound more like a lounge singer than a pompous a**hole here, and I think that’s kinda fun. “Peace Frog” - this was the most fun I had here, what a nice funky track “Land Ho!” - Morrison is audibly bored except when he shouts “Land Ho!” with half his chest and only sounds indifferent.
Another one of the bands a tend to look back on with “rose tinted ears” That is I remember them being a lot better than they actually are! This album sounds like your local garage band just got given an organ and play it on everyone of their songs whether it works or not. It doesn’t !
Never really got into The Doors...didn't really get this album. It doesn't seem like their best. I guess it's a vibe, but I found it pretty uninspired and would probably put on Strange Days or their debut before going back to this.
Man, if I was born in the 1950s and was listening to this as a teenager in the early ‘70s, it would probably sound amazing. Too bad.
My general sense of The Doors is they didn’t have much else going for them aside from their stalwart blues rock. Any other ideas feel rooted in the psychedelia, minor key, harpsichord dead end of the 60s. Which may be all that some folks want! The blues rock really is exceptional, highlighted here by Roadhouse Blues. But when that’s about all you have, it’s no wonder they were incredibly played out by the time of Oliver Stone’s movie. They are probably due for some kind of revival or another in our fractured post-monoculture, but wow, they have been the first name in boomer cheese for so long...
there are better doors albums
First time hearing this album, I really like Strange Days so was hopeful but found myself bored.
Muutaman kerran elämässäni yrittänyt kuunnella The Doorsia, muttei jotenkin iske yhtään.
Eeeeh after listening to their other album I knew I really didn’t want to listen to this. The doors are terribly overrated.
I am a known Doors-hater, so am coming in biased. That said, I didn't enjoy listening to this album at all. The four tracks from Blue Sunday to The Spy are the low point, just boring music and less profound than he thinks lyrics. Roadhouse Blues slapped the first 500x I heard it, but I'm over it now. Peace Frog is in a similar state. Without the hype around this album and the band in general, I could have seen this getting a 3 but my stubborn ass won't give in to it.
Unfortunately this just wasn't for me, which was surprising. I had gone into it expecting to love it - I would compare a lot of this, rhythm and vibe-wise (not really in terms of specific instrumentation or vocals) to Creedence. Yet, I really found myself dragging to get through it. A stand-out for me was "Peace Frog / Blue Sunday (Take 4)," that was the only one I favorited off of this album (I listened to the 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition). I did really enjoy hearing the different demos and takes of varied tracks and the dialogue between band members, though; that was a fun peek behind the scenes. Hoping to see more Doors projects on here and hopefully warm up to them as a group.
I, too, can write music while drunk and watching children's cartoons.
Roadhouse Blues is great, the rest? less so.
Can we say this stands the test of time if I loathe listening to it? I dislike this almost as much as Aerosmith or other classic rock but I almost rated this higher based on the legacy of the Doors, but at the same time, why? I was happy when this was over.
Ahh first two songs are good but man lots of it is Morrison droning on while basic blues vamps take place around him. Also at least twice they just stop the song and do rag time randomly. There are better doors albums.
Not very consistent 2
One for the dads Alright for a bop around the kitchen if you turn it up
Jim Morrison? He's a drunken buffoon posing as a poet
Man, this is a hard one for me to be objective because I have spent my whole life just hating the Doors. When I saw it pop up, I audibly groaned. However, perhaps over time, as my music tastes have evolved in many ways, I've become more accepting. Hell, I listen to the Rolling Stones on purpose now! I still don't like most of it. The problem with the Doors for me is Jim Morrison. While he's an interesting songwriter, his voice just grates on my soul. I hate it! I'm not 100% sure why. He's not whiny, nasally, or weird. Objectively, it's a fine, middle-of-the-road voice. It's kind of loung-singer-y at times and arrogant somehow in a very off-putting way. I know a lot of folks love him and that's cool. But it has always bugged me so much that I can hardly listen to the music. So, I listened with an open mind and some of this music is really good. Structurally sound, sometimes experimental, sometimes retro. A little heavy on the up-front keyboards for me, but it's fine. I would probably love "Peace Frog" if someone else sang it. The music is cool. I didn't quite hate Morrison's voice on "Ship of Fools". None of that yelling, swaggery shit he's usually throwing. Those are the high points for me. I can guarantee that I won't be listening to this again. Will give it a 2 because it's not garbage. It's just not for me. Some of the music is quite good. Probably a good album for everyone to hear once. sure.
Not my thing. Classic albums are going to be hard for me on this thing. I really don't like classic rock.
I wish my name made a cool anagram.
I did not like this album. Perhaps it's because I was born at the wrong time, but it sounds very run of the mill and like any other 70s rock album. Additionally, I do not enjoy Jim Morrison's "poetry" and lyrics. I find it vague, esoteric for no reason, and void of any of the meaning it seems to be chasing. Not a fan.
I like The Doors but this didn't resonate with me at all.
I like some of their other albums better
Look, I'll always love "Peace Frog", and who can deny "Roadhouse Blues"? I had this in my blue plastic walkman at age 13 for probably a month, it's seared into my brain. Are the Doors a unique, important, lightning flash of a band? Yes. Is this album cornier than a Thanksgiving shit? Also yes.
2 good songs on the whole album. Not good
i lament that i don't understand The Doors sometimes. they seem so cool but the music doesn't really go all the way for me with a few exceptions like Light My Fire and The End and Riders on the Storm. i think Jim Morrison is a good writer but nothing was that memorable to me deserves to be one of the 1001? would just leave The Doors with the self-titled and Strange Days probably, L.A. Woman too maybe
I can see the appeal of the Doors, but nothing on this album did much for me. It felt like an edgier, American response to music from the Beatles and Stones. There’s nothing wrong with that, it just wasn’t for me. I don’t know that I’d give it another listen because I think my mind would just wander again trying to pay attention.
Better than the other Doors album
Esse nunca foi um dos discos que mais ouvi deles qnd era moleque, mas me fez questionar fortemente pq eu gostava.
First song is good. Rest of album isn’t.
I like the blues rock direction on Morrison Hotel, but it ends up being a pretty laboured listen, with too many tracks sounding the same.
Never really listened to much of the Doors and tried hard to like this. I just couldn’t get into any of it, nothing stuck, nothing stood out
I’m going to assume these guys have other better more compelling records than this one? Which was like, fine.
Bluesrock. Något bättre än LA Woman.
Other than Roadhouse Blues, I find this album quite tiresome. But I burned out on the Doors many decade ago.
why so many people are so fond of this band, I'll never know. I can't help but find them tedious and self-obsessed. groan.
There are better Doors albums
Some days I am a doors guy. Not today
Pretentious drunk. Mediocre rhythm section. What’s not to not care about.
Myyttisyys laajennettu LP:n nimeen saakka. Itse musiikki säilyy selitettävänä.
not as interesting as I was expecting
A few really nice ones but overall I find quite underwhelming. I think _on the whole_, I find The Doors quite underwhelming.
Mostly boring.
I don’t know how to rate this, does that make it a 3? Or does me not knowing make it less? Like an album I didn’t enjoy will at least stick with me and I found interesting in a bad way. The 37 minutes I spend listening to your album will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.
I don’t know maybe I have to listen to their earlier stuff first, but this album didn’t give me much
For an iconic band fronted by someone nicknamed 'the Lizard King', a lot of this is pretty generic.
This album has its moments, but I've never been a fan of The Doors. 2 stars.
Not their best album, 2 or 3 decent songs, rest highly forgettable.
The Doors didn't release anything good until Sonny Moore came along in 2011 and helped them write "Breakin' a Sweat".
Had a decent bluesy groove. I think people like the doors more if they think Jim Morrison is a spunk. They deserve credit for being early but this sounds like a million bands.
This was just fine. I really liked the self-titled Doors record and was way into that one, but this one didn't really do it for me. It's not bad, just not as cool as their earlier freaky psych rock albums. I doubt I'll ever revisit this.
It feels like a lesser version of their self titled album. I really wish these were presented in order sometimes, becasue I understand now why LA Woman was so different and.. boozy? because doing the same thing for three albums must have been boring. Or was it a return to something and they just didn't have the same spark? I don't know, but this feels like a tired dirge through most of this.
I’m going to be stoned in the courtyard for this, but I have always thought the Doors were hugely overrated. I guess in their timeframe this was more exciting. But to me….meh. On the don’t listen to and won’t again list.
It's... fine
Not bad but not my favorite album of theirs. It has pretty chilled out vibe that is pretty nice. I'm not sure it's something that I like enough to listen to again though. Not complaining or anything, it might be that I have just heard it enough times.
Not a fan of Morrisons vocals
Inget som stack ut för mig här
Fine. Interesting backstory I suppose.
I hate the Doors. Only listened to half of the album. Maybe I'll come back to IIT for the rest... someday.
I remember in my teens thinking Jim Morrison was a profound and gifted poet/songwriter. I read the biography, listened to the music, and all was good. This time around it leaves me a bit cold. Don't get me wrong, the musicianship is top notch and Morrison's brooding style suits the music well, especially on this albums more blues focused style. Now though I find the lyrics less compelling and the majority of the songs forgettable. A good album, but in my opinion, not great. This one does not make my top 1000.
When I was an “adolescente incomprendida” I listened to a lot of The Doors, like, too much. So now I’m sick of their music. The Spy is still a great song
You can only write so many blues songs before you have to switch something up. Also I’ve never really understood what the big deal was about Jim Morrison
Round two with these chucklefucks. I’m just going to reiterate: I don’t like the Doors. Primarily because of Jim Morrison’s voice and also because I just don’t care for their songs. L.A. Woman did nothing for me and neither did this. The first two songs are ok, but everything else is bleh. Wikipedia tells me that I have only one more albums from these guys. Good. Favorite track: Waiting for the Sun Other hits: Roadhouse Blues
Mediocre Morrison
Artist sounded a little too much like The Doors for my taste.
Just not really my favorite. I don't love his voice (I clearly don't love raspy voices). It was ok.
Roadhouse Blues - alright but prefer the hardness of Waiting for the Sun. You Make Me Real - too rock and roll for me. Peace Frog - great solos. Blue Sunday - sweet croony one. Ship of Fools - alright - cool timings in the solo. Land Ho! - Boring and YIKES on the lyrics (thought I can't say much considering I like the Beatles' Run For Your Life). The Spy - Man I just cannot enjoy blues ever. Queen of the Highway - dull. Indian Summer - tune and words are simple but the foreboding instrumentation in the background is reminiscent of The End which I like. Maggie M'Gill - pretty repetitive, and a flat end to the album. Would have preferred Indian Summer here. Interesting the mix of genres on this album though.
I don't dislike it but I probably wouldn't seek it out again. I enjoyed the blues rock and some of the creative, storytelling lyrics.
First two tracks are great, rest of the album is a drag. Jim Morrison gives some major sleaze ball vibes. Would not revisit.
not too special
Outside of Peace Frogs (terrible name) this album is not very good at all. That song is really good otherwise this would be a one.
Weren't feeling this
leider immernanig im mood für das zeugs aber scho besser gsi als das was gester gloffe isch
Haven’t listened to the doors since high school. The organ is the most distinctive and engaging part of the sound to me.
I went into this knowing who The Doors are but having not really listened to their music. It’s not at all my thing, but I can see the way they shaped music and inspired other musicians. Overall the album is fine. I doubt I will revisit it.
This is some boring classic rock. I've heard much better multiple times with this generator.
this was... fine.
How oh how do I talk about The Doors? Here’s the thing: before I started this challenge, I really thought I was cool with The Doors, sincerely! I swore I liked their debut, I know I like “People Are Strange” and “Touch Me” and “Hello, I Love You,” and I remember being 14 and really liking that Oliver Stone biopic. Maybe, just maybe, it’s because I’m no longer 14 and therefore well past my classic rock n00b phase. But also, maybe, The Doors are a silly, strange, and mediocre band. They are a lot bluesier than I thought (very much not my style), they’re a lot more esoteric than I thought (re: all the fantasy/carnival bullshit Morrison seems to want to sing about), and they’re maybe not the strongest band ever (although I could image them as a great bar band). Morrison Hotel is great example of all of these issues. I’ll start with Side B, the title side, which is basically the poetic interpretation of a D&D campaign with nerdy, bland blues rock underneath it. The best part of this side is “Indian Summer,” a spacey psychedelic rock slow jam that sounds like 20 other songs in The Door’s catalog, based on what I’ve heard. It’s fine, but does not strike me as crucial. Side A, though, is a little trickier. I like “Peace Frog,” although this style of ‘60s rock is not really my jam, so I don’t think it’s something I’ll revisit. I also am okay with “Waiting for the Sun,” even though I think it’s played a little too loosely, and it makes me wonder if The Doors actually are good musicians, or if they’re just the best musicians in a pool of musicians high on hallucinogens. It’s the songs around these two that actually piss me off. Whether it’s the basicness of “Roadhouse Blues,” the traditionalism of “You Make Me Real,” or the monotonous vocals and snails pace of “Blue Sunday,” I find these songs irritating. To then end it with the ever-annoying “Ship of Fools” takes me out completely. In fact, the annoying pieces of Hard Rock Café set Morrison Hotel up to fail, both as a Side B and as a record overall. I will say, I like this a *lot* better than L.A. Woman, a record that is not only more blues-traditionalist, but also finds Morrison too drunk to sing a single note successful. Morrison Hotel isn’t that bad. But it’s also not good. It’s so not good, in fact, that it forces me to take off my rose-colored glasses and reassess how I feel about this band overall. This generator has taught me that a lot of the ~classic~ ‘60s acts were just blues bands with extra steps; no one is more deserving of that drag than The Doors, it seems. I think the fact that their sound has really left no tangible impact on music in the 21st century isn’t helping here. To me, this isn’t even the Boomer music of my parents, but rather, the music of my older Boomer uncles who fought in ‘Nam and have all died of lung disease. It is so definitively dated, I find it impossible to listen to. While Morrison Hotel is far from the worst record I’ve ever heard, it’s a level of mediocrity that should be actively skipped over. God, I hope that The Doors’ debut holds up…..
Good job to Mr Mojo Risin and co for making 37 minutes feel like forever. I am a sucker for The Doors but not this album. Roadhouse Blues feels disjointed on this album, especially compared to the subdued tones in songs like Blue Sunday and Indian Summer. That and Peace Frog are supposed to be the standout hits on this album, maybe I've heard them too many times but they are honestly just corny as fuck. Not their best work, by a long shot. Highlights: Waiting for the Sun, Blue Sunday, Indian Summer
Like every grunge kid in the 90s, I went through a Doors phase. But I can't say any of this really hits the spot for me anymore. I don't think I will ever listen to this on purpose again. My standouts: Peace Frog, The Spy
"I know your deepest secret fear...I'm a spyyyy" there are tears in my eyes these guys are so unserious. I was unmoved, 2 stars
I imagine that future generations will treat bands like Brockhampton or whatever in the same way that this generation treats The Doors: a polite smile, a "that's nice", and then ignoring my nostalgia/dementia-induced mutterings of "Ah, you had to be there" and other such statements. (the vocals on Ship of Fools and Land Ho!, though, yikes. don't let the alcohol win, kids.)
The Doors is the type of band I want to hear more of from the list. I think the album was just ok to me though. It didn’t stand out enough to get 3 stars.
Classic, but ultimately boring
This is another album where I think you really only NEED to listen to 1-2 songs. Roadhouse Blues is an actual hit, the rest of the album feels disjointed. For whatever reason, they even had a two track run of pirate themed tracks. It's not bad, but it's definitely not a great album. Best Songs: Roadhouse Blues, Queen of the Highway Worst Songs: Land Ho!
This was better than expected, but still a bit pedestrian in terms of the backing, and am not a fan of Morrison's voice or poetic pretensions.
Stodge.
Just not that into the doors. Nothing that intriguing to me 🤷♂️
loved the vibes and Jim Morrison's voice. Nothing really stood out to me
Unfortunately I think I’ve discovered (or confirmed) that The Doors aren’t for me.
The Doors just do nothing for me. It all sounds the same.
Faceless unremarkable rock. Not bad, not good
They're called The Doors because that's where you're headed when they start playing where you're at
boy Jim's shtick wore pretty thin after the 4th song.
oh i hate this
Back when I was growing up, The Doors were one of those bands that our Boomer parents told us was great. And classic rock was great. And we listened to these things and we bought the Morrison posters and put them up on on the walls next to the Bob Marley posters, in our dorms. Oliver Stone made a movie. That golden aura has faded and it's easier to see the Doors at face value now. This album really isn't anything special. Off to the dustbin of history then.
Nice
Let it roll, baby, roll
Not their best. A lot of Doors Albums on this list. There are a couple radio hits, but you don't get Jim's best lyrics or Robbie's most inventive guitar work. It's a sad beginning of the end.
Would understand the general doors obsession if they only released one album and blew out or something. This one is already 3 too many and apparently there were 4 more.
This is the only album of theirs, except the first one, that I’ve listened to all the way through. Maybe it was cool back then when a bunch of white SoCal guys did blues, but now it just seems derivative and dull. Stick to the greatest hits, listeners, this one’s not worth it.
i think the right person would go absolutely crazy for this album
good, solid blues, bit boring maybe, probably would’ve great live
keyboard-heavy rock, disappointing after the opening track
Bad. The Doors may have had potential if Jim Morrison hadn't been the driving creative force behind the band, but his lyrics and singing are so unlistenable that it ruins any talent the band behind him had. Roadhouse Blues is a mildly competent blues song, but every other song on this album should have been rejected immediately by a competent producer. Only giving this two stars because I'm sure there are worse albums out there, and I have to reserve the 1 star rating for albums that don't actually contain what I would consider to be "music".
Idk, the doors are whatever imo. 2nd album I've gotten of there's & just wasn't really feeling this one either.
This is exactly what I think of when I think of both the movie "Road House" and the band "The Doors" Definitely not my favorite, got me down. 2.5
more generic rock music imo. 2.5
Tedious and seriously overrated
Not my vibe. Loved the instrumentals more than anything.
I was bored
Fine, but would not actively seek out
Repeterive with lots of fillers in a 36 minute album
I didn’t dislike this as much as I expected, a few good songs. I just cannot get behind the organ, or at least an organ that loud in the mix. The more guitar drive songs I did like.
Doors have never been my thing.
Very mundane. Not impressed.
Borish blues with pseudo-shamanic ramblings. Occasional flourishes above the bloated and pretentious.
mag die musik ganz ok aber war jetzt auch nicht einer von den doors bangern dabei
Not the best Doors record.
Gear: Fostex TH610 Artwork: 🪟💇♂️🏩 Mix: 😲🙂👌 Musik: 😮💨🥱😒 Wertung: 🏩🏩/5
I dont even like the good Doors albums. The vocals in this one seemed more grating than usual. Lyrically its good, and the production itself was okay. My problem with the Doors is that the instrumentals are usually pretty great but the vocals just dont match and bring it all down.
I asked my wife what she thought of this album. She replied “we listened to an album today?” Forgettable but the instrumentals were enjoyable sometimes
Instructions were to steal a car, drive west playing the tape at full blast, then get out and get into a fight. Arriving back in town this was advertised as 'the most prestigious hotel of all time'. Sheets weren't clean. Excessive noise all night. Unpleasant smell. WiFi password didn't work. Air conditioning very noisy but not functional. Bathroom faucet leaking. Felt like there might have been bedbugs.
I listened to the Doors extensively as a dopey young man, then got real tired of their shtick. Going back to this one, I enjoyed more than I expected, in spite of Jim Morrison. The rest of the band has its moments! I doubt other Doors records will hold up as well, but Morrison Hotel is solidly Fine.
This album really did nothing for me. The first song, "Roadhouse Blues", was fine but the rest seemed uninspired. Maybe the fact that I never was a huge Doors fan is influencing me... I will give this a 2 instead of a one just because it is the Doors and Jim Morrison.
All over the place by design, but the quality is more inconsistent than I'd like. Still enjoyed it a lot.
Honestly, the lyrics were dull and repetitive and the vocal performance was not fun to listen to. The music was fine.
And so a million ropey bluesy bar bands came into existence. Waiting for the Sun is great though.
Meh. O.k. I guess, but has lost its luster over teh last 50 years
The Doors are such an overrated band. There’s nothing here that other bands weren’t doing better.
Das sind also die sagenumwobenen Doors. Dann vermute ich, dass das nicht das beste Album der Band ist. Ich hoffe da kommt noch Besseres.
Roadhouse Blues Waiting for the Sun Peace Frog
37 minutes that seemed twice as long. Waiting for the Sun was the only highlight on this album. Boring.
There was a brief time where I listened to the Doors trying to get into the music — and failing. I read the Jim Morrison biography and would throw my POP's records on the turntable, turn it up loud and wait for something compelling to happen. But it never really took. Usually it just seemed like wallowing and noodling music. This particular record is too bluesy in parts but also has a surprising heaviness to it at times that redeems the moments when they tread into the boring blues cliches. A decent Doors record but it can't compete with more interesting music made by others.
Alexander Van der Bellen: Liebe Österreicherinnen und Österreicher, so sind The Doors nicht!
meh. 4/10
OK, The Doors are cool & all, but why THIS album? None of the big hits that everyone knows & associates w/ the band. Very little of the psychedelic rock they're famous for- instead we get a straight-up blues album. Well guess what? There are probably thousands of blues albums from actual blues artists that were passed over, for what? To give the Doors a 3rd spot on this list? C'mon. I'm looking forward to the other 2 (assuming they'll be the first 2, or maybe first & last), as those will be far more representative of The Doors. As for this one? Pass. The Doors are cool. This album doesn't need to be here, though.
I went through a Doors phase early in high school. Then I got older and realized while the music is kind of fun, Jim Morrison is a blowhard pseudo-intellectual.
Best part is that it is only 37 minutes. Peace Frog is good though.
There were surprisingly a couple of okay songs on here, but a lot of carnival organ and blathering other than that.
Another Dad band for me. A lot gruffer sounding than I thought they were. Not awful but can’t say I was even really paying much attention to it.
It sounds like the Doors. This isn't the best album by the Doors. "Roadhouse Blues" and "The Spy" are my personal favorites off this album. All in all a super generic Doors album.
Meh
Really just tired dad rock. There's nothing really deep here, or any great production. It's by-the-numbers rock music by a bunch of amateurs. They just happened to do it before anyone else, making everyone think it's better than it actually is.
This album is bluesy and has real saloon style vibes. It's definitely a Doors album, but there's good energy here. Peace Frog and Land Ho! are the most "Doorsy" song here for better or worse. I used to admire The Doors more than I do today. This album did little to affect my feelings towards them one way or the other. It's fine.
OK.
I’ve never really liked the doors and this doesn’t change my mind. Not sure what makes this one of the 1001 albums I need to listen to but I have now done that and probably won’t listen to it ever again. A 2 pointer just to let me rate another of their albums lower.
It's strange to listen to Jim Morrison sing about monogamy.
Ugh more Doors? No, I don’t want it. They’re the same on every record. It’s repetitive and tedious.
It’s just sort of fine blues rock. Nothing terribly stand out good on this album, but also nothing too bad. It’s rather middling.
This is less irritating than I expected it to be, but it's still just barroom blues with the mildest hint of psychadelia. It's like the Pigpen songs from a 60s Dead show, just with a smoother vocalist. There's some ok blues rock guitar and psych organ stuff - the instrumental breaks have a cool feel to them. But really, it's pretty dull. I don't even like the Doors but this doesn't have any of the stuff that makes them unique, even if that uniqueness is hugely overrated and what I feared would be irritating. They're a greatest hits band at best, and this album doesn't have any of the hits!
Now seems as good a time as ever to sort out my ranking philosophy 5 stars - thank you, will go out and purchase immediately 4 stars - stick in my Discogs basket for a treat 3 stars - will buy if I come across in a charity/thrift/goodwill store 2 stars - will not purchase. It’s me, not you 1 star - Duke Ellington is my guide : ‘there are two types of music: good music and the rest.’ Solid 2 stars here. Wouldn’t warm to this if I worked in it for a week.
I only enjoyed -Roadhouse Blues -Waiting for the Sun -Peace frog Rest are misses.
It's just totally fine. Nothing super interesting going on, but nothing bad.
Pretty hood
You know what, I am going to say something nice about this Doors album. Many of the songs are less than three minutes long. So, as a listener your suffering is pretty minimal. Good job you overrated pretentious mediocre hacks. At least this collection of awful songs you foisted upon the world has several awful songs that are pretty short. Good job.
I do not like The Doors but this is probably their best album. Bonus points for being short.
Some good songs, some not. I feel like the Doors (and Jim Morrison in particular) is a band that people like because they think they’re supposed to, that you’re not cool if you don’t. I don’t think Morrison is a great singer and although he comes across as passionate, he’s just not that moving. And some of the songs are pretentious or just plain stupid. It depends on the song whether or not I like the Doors; I mean, “the future’s uncertain and the end is always near.”
Boring. Some cool instrumental parts, but overall so boring
crazy how 37 minutes can feel like four hours.
I’ve always struggled with the doors, and feel bad for that because I know that they’re such a hugely influential band. But I’ve tried to restart this album 6 times now and got bored every time. Maybe it’s my tik tok brain, but I just kept getting irritable and wanting more/something different. The musicality is great, Jim Morrison is an icon in his own right with and amazing voice and poetic lyrics (most of the time). But I just didn’t want to listen. Time to move on and try another album I think, feels harsh to rate it 1 when I know it’s not a BAD album, but not being able to finish due to boredom definitely puts it at a low score
Not my taste. Not a fan of Morrison’s vocal style
Не люблю вот этот ровный блюз. Лучшая песня - Waiting For The Sun.
I just don’t really get the Jim Morrison hype. There’s definitely something solid here, but a stronger lead vocal would elevate them for me.
Doors always sounded like a less fun Stooges to me. I don't think it stands the test of time very well. Probably very cool in the day, but that day has been and gone.
It was okay, could definitely use a real bass.
As time goes on, the less I seem to like 20-something boomer white dudes playing the blues. Give me a break. Speaking of boomers, Lester Bangs in Almost Famous put it quite succinctly: "Jim Morrison is a drunken buffoon posing as a poet." I'm not sure if I'll agree with Lester about the Guess Who, but they're not on the list, so I guess I could just listen to them without spoiling it. Then he proceeds to forcibly put Iggy Pop on right after, which I definitely agree with. At least this is less than 40 minutes.
I obviously knew the name of the band but hadn't listened to them before. I didn't hear anything special in this album.
I don’t know it was kind of underwhelming. It wasn’t bad or anything but I think since they’re kind of a big name band I’d expected a lot more than what I heard. It wasn’t amazing or horrible just something to listen to.
ehh. It's hard to think about giving this a 2 when I just gave ZZTop Eliminator a 3 and I don't think I even liked it. I've never liked the Doors even if I like a lot of old organic rock - this one has much less of that awful lounge organ that permeates so much of their music. And it's still not good. I think it's as simple as they weren't good songwriters. They had a sound - a distinct one - and I can see that being an attraction for people in and of itself. Just not for me Same old Doors, but with even fewer catchy songs. Boring. 4/10 2 stars.
I mean i guess its pretty good. Its just not really my style. I find blues to be pretty tiresome.
I really dont know the music of The Doors at all, but well aware of the band and name as Im sure most are. This album was released in the 60s I believe and frankly I wasnt a fan. To old-timey for my taste.
It's alright, there are definitely better Doors songs.
my first thought with this album is that morrison hotel sure does sound very much like the doors! but at the same time, their iconic sound leaves the band with a narrow vision to create music in. this album sounds a lot like their debut album with easy psychedelia rock, but it sounds too much like they tried to replicate what worked then. i didn't feel that same spark of creativity. the songs blended into one another, so overall the album was too repetitive to be enjoyable.
I have tried so many times with The Doors, but every time Jim Morrison starts singing I just glaze over. The musicianship is pretty good, but I cannot stand his nonsense.
Interesting odds to listen to two Doors albums in the first dozen selections. I actually initially listened to the self titled instead of this (so three Doors albums), which may have set me up more for disappointment.
Meh.
Never liked the Doors. They always seemed overly dramatic, self-absorbed & self-impressed. That said, this album was ok. Didn’t hate it as much as I figured I would. Won’t listen again, but at least I can say I listened to it.
BL: funnily enough I recently added this album to my library with intention to listen to it. But I hadn’t gotten round to it yet, so I guess this gives me all the more reason to give it a listen. AL: this album was more art student pretentiousness then classic doors psych-rock goodness. Which is a shame. This is definitely the weakest doors record I’ve heard out of the key 4. There were some absolute shredders on here but generally more misses than hits which was dissapointing FT: “waiting for the sun” “Peace Frog / Blue Sunday” 2/5
Nothing stood out.
need a relisten. I liked the beginning but not as much as rolling stones. Peace Frog was catchy and that's all I remember from it
Just not grabbing me. I feel like this should be more impactful for how big the band is but I'm either missing something or this is riding on clout.
At time this sounds like a drunk white guy making fun of the Blues. The instrumentation is fine. Production is fine for what it's working with.
Enjoyable listen with some classics. Unlike when I listened to the Doors when I was a teenager, the music felt somewhat disingenuous or overblown this time around. A solid album but not ticking my boxes today.
average
pretty meh
Not what I thought it would be. The Doors are a lot more bluesy than I imagined. Although it starts well it does not carry well through the album. I would pass.
Enjoyed a good bit of the music/instrumentation but wasn't impressed with the lyrics throughout. I think 2-3 songs stood out to me. Don't get me wrong, I can understand why people would like it, but ultimately it just wasn't for me.
not a fan
wasn't feeling blues on a Monday
Decent blues riffs. Not a fan of the vocals and overall styling. Fav tracks: Roadhouse Blues, Peace Frog
Not a big Doors fan but this album has a nice blues sound on a few tracks
3/10 - Sounds like a jam session. Very vibey but aint my vibe.
Well this just left me cold. Jim Morrison is overrated anyway, pompous sixth form poetry. And not sexy. Strange Brew by Cream came on directly after this and it was such a relief
Peace Frog is good I guess.
Not a bid Doors fan, but also found this listenable.
These guys could play, and Morrison had a great rock voice, but the material here is just not strong enough. A less than average album.
One of the top 1001? Doubtful
I've heard this to death all my life. Have never understood the idolatry for Morrison. The musicians have some skill, and would be enjoyable without his bloated egotistical excess.
Very unremarkable I'm afraid. Not to my taste. Not bad, just cannot remember any specific redeeming details the day after.
Morrison Hotel was ok nothing really exciting, not overly familiar with The Doors. Standout track from the record for me was "Peace Frog".
Nope, not listening to another Doors album.
boring
Bit boring
Aside from a few songs, the album is a bit hollow.
ok
Can’t bring myself to like The Doors. It should be something that I like but there’s just something off about it…
