Reviews (page 11 of 13)

After peace frog this kind of just drones on. I didn’t know Roadhouse Blues was the Doors. I expected ZZTop or Bad Company.

helt ok!

I’m very surprised to learn that The Doors are just very ok for me.

Really enjoy the music on this album not a big fan of Morrison's voice

Perfectly good Doors sound - nothing particularly amazing here in my opinion.

In terms of The Doors output it's not the style I like of them, but it's all find and bluesy. I'd just rather listen to other blues.

Decent album but no classic songs

One of the better Doors albums

Classic psychedelic rock fare. Grateful for the vibes but I’m never delighted when I am faced with going back for one of these. I need to bring context to fully appreciate it because I can get terribly bored unless I remind myself that the music I love is here because this was first. That said, some lovely moments on this one. 10/10 for vibes but a solid 3 from me otherwise.

Tjaaaa.. The Doors zijn wel nice, maar moet zeggen dat dit album me niet echt weg heeft geblazen.

Love the Doors, maar dit album is niet hun beste. 3.5 want alsnog leuke nummers

This is alright. Sometimes silly, sometimes rocking, The Doors are as hated as often as loved amongst friends. I won't seek this out, but wouldn't switch it off if it came on. Amused by the mix of the faux-visionary and the horny, best exemplified early on by 'Waiting for the Sun' being followed by 'You Make Me Real' (horny).

Was ok never listened to them before. When I listened to them it was hard to understand and hear all the details while mowing.

Never really cared for The Doors, but I enjoyed this to a reasonable degree.

I’ve never really listened to the Doors, so this was worthwhile. They’re good at that atmospheric blues-rock thing, aren’t they? But no standouts to make me race back for more of this album, especially when there are several others to listen to.

God, I totally don't know what to do with the Doors... many people go through a Doors phase in their teenage years, which I somehow bypassed, and I am aware that the hip consensus seems to be to sneer at the Doors. Morrison is a pretentious prat and not nearly as deep as he pretends, although he certainly knew how to strut around in leather kecks convincingly -- Iggy Pop, possibly the most compelling rock and roll front man of all time credits Morrison as his inspiration. I acknowledge Morrison's formative influence on rock star posturing, for better or worse. The band are a glorified lounge act, aspiring to bar band status when they get fired up. The lyrics are often pretty naff... and yet, and yet, this record is surprisingly listenable. Most songs are short enough to not outstay their welcome, the tunes are catchy, the band can occasionally rock (although their take on the blues borders on pastiche) and their dynamic interplay is not too bad. The lyrics are not TOO dumb (for the most part). I really want to hate the Doors, but this album is kinda fun. I can forgive the band for this record.

Alright

Today we have an album that I’m hoping will be somewhat promising! I’ve enjoyed each album by The Doors so far (I think) so I’m going into the this wanting to have a good time! Let’s listen and find out. Songs I already knew: none Favourites: Peace Frog / Blue Sunday I will say that I did enjoy this album, but there were times that I felt it did stay a little samey. Peace Frog was a very welcome change of pace once it started as the first three songs have all blended into one in my memory. That’s not to say that they were bad by any means, but it was notable that Peace Frog immediately felt different once that guitar started. As usual, Jim Morrison’s vocals were pretty much flawless, and the album was fun overall. Just not quite as memorable as some of the other albums.

вообще не то чего я от дорз/Морисона ожидала... надо ещё слушать

It was pretty good, not really my music though but the first couple of songs are very catchy

Decent blues album. Not the best material though.

I don't like all of the Doors albums, but this one I enjoyed most of the way through.

The Doors continue to exceed my expectations, at least a little. I’d say I have both more respect and more affection for them as a result of this process. The more bluesy numbers could be any band really, but when they lean into that ‘Doorsy’ sound (by which I guess I mean jaunty rhythms, emphatic chord changes and organ, lots of organ) they definitely stand out from the pack. 3.5 stars.

The Doors have always intrigued me, I know they’re supposed to be awesome but sometimes I just find that they are not. Maybe it’s like Bob Dylan, in that you need to GET it to truly love it. This album was good, Roadhouse Blues is an absolute banger and the rest of the album flows beautifully but without really taking off in my opinion. An enjoyable listen but again, not something I’m desperate to add to my collection.

Good album

Pretty nice. Very much a vibe, just not a vibe I connect to. Cool as background music.

Solid album. Good for doing some work with it in the background. Not my favorite album by them

Enjoyable, but not exactly my taste

3.5/5 Solid album. Starts off strong and energetic and afterwards keeps the same quality throughout the whole album. After the roadhouse blues no song really stood out, but just decent. Favourite song: - Roadhouse blues

Pretty good

Need to give it another listen

Had my head deep in one of The Doors greatest hits albums back in sixth form, and that shit SLAPPED. Today’s album, however, has zero songs from it (except for a live version of Roadhouse Blues, which I’ve come to realise that I prefer it to the studio version). This album is… okay. There are way better Doo’ers songs out there

3. It's fine. Nothing more nothing less

2/17- Driving to school The Doors stray away from their typical sound here, something that would cause a lot of bigger problems in later albums. Although still carried by Morrison’s haunting charisma and talents, this leaves a lot to be desired from such a revolutionary group.

Not a big doors fan

It's The Doors! This better be good. I do not like the sound of the electric piano they use...

Didn’t get too much out of this but liked the sound. High 3.

Pleasant enough.

Peace Frog lifts this up to a generous 3

Nice, I prefer a few other The Doors albums, but still pretty good.

Much like the previous album, I wasn't sure where to place this one so middle score it is. Had some parts I quite enjoyed but on the whole it didn't really leave a mark on me. Could be worse I suppose.

Not their best, but still worth a listen. 3/5

Bättre än det andra pisse doors man behövt lyssna på men fortfarande inte bra

Decent blues rock, some really impressive guitar playing, but some so so lyrics from Jim

I have been a Doors fan forever, but with the exception of Peace Frog this was never one of my favorite albums. It doesn’t have that Jim Morrison thing that I’ve come to love, the passion? The heat? I don’t know what it is, but I don’t get it from this album.

Interesting. Sounds like divine comedy. No outstanding tracks. Wouldn’t try again

Idk, I feel like I should like this more than I actually do.

I hadn’t listened to any Doors really before - apart from the cinema-famous ones. Tbh I can’t see why they were so big - but that’s more my issue than anyone else’s!

J'ai écouté cet album deux fois et il ne m'a pas vraiment laissé d'impression, à part les accents de blues et la voix de Morrison.

I have, for much of my life, found The Doors to be overly hyped, self-indulgent, self-important bullshit. This album doesn't really do a whole lot to change my mind on that, though there are three songs that I really dig (Roadhouse Blues, Peace Frog, and Indian Summer - the last despite the fact that it's really kind of a nothing song, but it hooked me nonetheless). That said, there's some definite shit on this album (Blue Sunday: snore; Ship of Fools: more snore; Land Ho! is so bad that I turned it off) What I will say in terms of this album's importance that it ends up on a list like this is that you can definitely hear influences from other artists who came before (Land Ho!, for instance, borrows heavily from Ob-la-di Ob-la-da) and that ended up being passed on to more modern acts (such as how you can hear elements of the opening of Peace Frog in the opening of Smells Like Teen Spirit). So in terms of influenced by and influencer of other acts, it's definitely still relevant even 53 years later.

Ehhhh if you want something to pass the time while you're reading something or taking a train. I give it a 6/10

L.A. Woman is better, but now Waiting For the Sun is one of my favorites. The rest of the album is good, but nothing really captures me.

Not a huge Doors fan, but this was decent.

a decidedly mediocre Doors album. I feel like The Doors are a pretty overrated band in general and this album does little to dispell that impression. 3 stars

Buen disco de rock setentero con melodías sencillas y buena voz. Ningún título excesivamente destacable

Two great songs, the big ones. The others seem too "out there" for me. Just don't hold up. Maybe they lack an interesting tune, like so many of my Doors favorites. Maybe too much of Jim-poetry indulgence without the sheer rock/blues force of the hits. For context I love "The End", I think cause you get a great performance too.

Overall a better album than L.A. Woman, but The Doors are still a heavily overrated band.

rocking roll babey

The songs on this album felt a lot longer than 2-4 minutes a pop. They weren't bad, but a lot of them barely stuck out to me. Still, I really enjoyed a few of the songs on here. I'm hoping I'll like some other The Doors albums more. My favourite songs were Blue Sunday, Queen of the Highway, and Indian Summer.

S'écoute bien mais même si j'aime The Doors c'est pas un album qui m'impression tant dans son ensemble.

No me gustó mucho, también muy instrumental

A few great songs. Otherwise an OK listen at best.

I run hot and cold with the Doors. Their hits definitely are great, the songs that got played on the radio were meant to be, you know? "Roadhouse Blues" and "Waiting For The Sun" definitely are good songs. But then we get to the rest of the album and you wonder what happened. I mean... "Peace Frog?" "Land Ho" isn't too bad, even if does hit the nail right on the head. "The Spy" is ok and so is "Maggie McGill." But OK doesn't really cut it. If you're going to listen to the Doors, their best of is really all you need. The albums have so much "poetry" that really goes nowhere. You shouldn't have to sit through 25 minutes of drek to listen to a couple of ok songs and 2 songs that are really good.

Alright, I better put this right out in the open. I do not like the Doors. Never been a fan of Jim Morrison. His voice doesn't do it for me and if his charisma isn't really there in studio performances. Listening to this album, I just find them boring. I've always liked Roadhouse Blues so that's a plus. And they do put together a decent blues sound. But otherwise the album felt like it plodded along. Not terrible but I still don't get the hype behind the Doors.

It's a fine blues record, and the front half is very strong. The back half is a little dull, and overall they're not doing anything all that innovative. Beyond the first four songs it's pretty slow and also very treble-y. Morrison has a pleasant voice but doesn't show a lot of range or, after the first track, a lot of excitement.

Never had listened to a whole The Doors album. Couple hits not bad over all.

Was ok

There’s some good songs on here just really wasn’t feeling it. Might take a few more listens

Surprisingly good bit not particularly attention grabbing. Some famous songs, a lot of drawling, basically okay - evokes the epriodnwell. But tbh, I can't stand Jim Morrison because he's so far up his own rectum.

Liked it more than I thought I would but still don't really know what some of the lyrics mean

Enjoyed it but preferred the more atmospheric sound of Indian Summer compared to the blues jams the rest of the album includes.

Some good songs but nothing special

They had better LPs, although it still has its decent moments (Indian Summer, the Spy) 5/10

Doors är som bäst när de är lowkey, detta album är rockigt.

While I love quite a few tracks from The Doors, this album couldn't suck me in. Not that memorable for me.

It might be my imagination, but I hear Jim Morrison's powers waning. Does his voice sounds less sharp, a bit less powerful than earlier recordings? Flabbier even? There are still some great songs on this album. Roadhouse Blues is good swinging blues song (I want to hear Howlin Wolf sing this one). Waiting for the Sun is amazing. The Spy is a great song (if you ignore the lyrics which are kind of cheezy). 3/5 (good)

Big fan of the keys on this album. The whole album was good listening to but not many standout songs. Land Ho was my favorite from this one

Roadhouse Blues an all time classic. Billy Idol has an awesome cover. Enjoyed You make me real, Peace Frog and Maggie M'Gill. Enjoyed more than I thought. Solid 3. As a younger kid, found myself turning off most Door songs. Think they better songs are the ones that don't get beat to death on classis radio. Starting to kind of digging these guys.

2.5 Two Doors albums down and I’m still not blown away. While I enjoyed this one more than LA Woman mainly because Jim’s voice is totally shot yet. All the sea-faring blues songs got old here like they always do for me. I do dig the drums in this one a lot though. The frantic pace almost reminds me of Keith Moon’s style of playing. I liked Maggie M’Gill, but mainly because of Better Call Saul. There’s definitely more here but not a ton. Favorites: Roadhouse Blues, Ship of Fools, Land Ho!, The Spy, Maggie M’Gill

3.5 Our first artist repeat! And just one week after LA Woman. Compared to that album, I enjoyed the sound on this one a lot more - while still bluesy, it doesn't lean quite has hard into the genre (which I think serves the band better), and it also just felt a bit more versatile and crisp. This album also contains "Peace Frog" which is one of, if not, my favorite Doors songs (Note: This is likely largely due to its presence in a Tony Hawk video game). Other than that, I don't think I have ton to say, but this an enjoyable classic rock record and Jim Morrison shines as always on here. Favorite songs: Peace Frog, Waiting for the Sun, Indian Summer

Good album, varying songs to listen too, not the greatest not the worst opens up to blues and rock alternatives

door hun discografie moet ik ook eens gaan, hebben echt top fucked up nummers hahah

Good but nothing grabbing

I only know the debut and the final (LA Woman) and tbh have considered them a rather overrated band especially with Morrison being lauded as a poet and guru. However I like the bluesiness of this especially the first side. The second side seems a bit lame in comparison. 3.

It's pretty good, but I've always been more of a "Strange Days" kind of guy. I like when they go more psychedelic, like "Waiting For The Sun". The bluesier songs were sort of generic (still enjoyable though).

I like it, even if it's far from the best Doors album. The opener is an all-timer. The vibe has been so reduced to corny that I can't help but think of it as such. Ultimately, there's always something kind of nice about Morrison's voice and the unique instrumentals even if the lyrics are nonsense and the melodies a bit redundant.

Starts off great. Loses a bit of steam mid way but all and all it's a solid album.

Great songs. A little bit down in places, but very tight.

Solid rock-blues effort, that doesn't seem to have lots of stand-outs as much as everything pretty decent. Enjoyed The Spy and Maggie M'gill. The weirdest thing is the overuse of panning/directional stereo... voices/instruments just fade from one side to the other and back quite regularly.

I get that a good chunk of albums I'm gonna listen to are going for this kind of blues rock trend but I'm going to be eternally wondering why it won't click for me. I think the story behind Morrison Hotel is more interesting than the music itself as well. Maybe I just need to listen to something else from the Doors otherwise, this is just another album that ain't for me.

Fun, easy to listen to.

Not as good as the last Doors album we had, but still a really good listen. Strong 3 out of 5, just shy of a 4. It's a good album, the quality keeps up the whole way through, but I don't think there are individual songs that really lift this up to a 4 or 5. Will probably listen to this again, it's good music both for working to and for active listening.

Quite a bit of blues influence. Not overall too memorable.

high water mark for the doors is still an 7/10 for me.

Pretty generic blues rock. Not that great but not that bad either.

Toimii, ei kuitenkaan yhtä väkevästi kuin ensimmäinen levy. Tuli luulutettua kymmenisen vuotta aikaisemmin enemmän

Tykkään enemmän kuin nimikkolevystä. Ehkei silti nelosen arvoinen. Mut pitää kuunnella vielä joskus. Jotenkin koherenttia ja etenee kivasti. Ei vain läjä biisejä.

Blues-vaikutteista 70-lukua esimerkillisimmillään. En ollut kuitenkaan ihan valtavan innoissani muutamaa parempaa biisiä lukuunottamatta eli 3/5.

Not my favorite Doors album. But a good one just the same. I like the bluesyness that you find in most of their previous albums.

huske ingenting fra da, så va sikkert heilt gjennomsnittlig

decent blues rock, mainly carried by morrisons voice and classic blues compositions

Not my type

The lizard king gets fat and grows a beard and decides he likes the blues again. Best Tracks: Roadhouse Blues, Waiting For The Sun; Peace Frog

probably should have listened to S-T first, but pretty decent

If I had a dollar for each time I tried to get into The Doors, I'd have about $7 unearned. That's because I don't think I've ever made it more than three tracks into a The Doors record before getting bored and turning it off. People love this band. But are those people music lovers with a critical ear, or hippy poseurs? That question certainly reveals what my answer would be, doesn't it? I mean, the music here is fine. Repetitive but fine. My barrier is Jim Morrison's lyrics. Just dumb repetitive cliches and druggy bullshit. Which I can be fine with, if they are a springboard to thoughts or creative visions or whatever. Still, I'll give it a 3/5, since 2.5 isn't possible. Not sure why. That feels generous.

The Doors are cool. I never really got into them. It's sloppy drug rock - but it's like the best sloppy drug rock there is maybe, so . . .

Ok album, still not a huge can of Jim Morrison or the Doors

Good music but definitely not their strongest works.

Sounded good. Not the best work of the doors.

Pas mon meilleur du groupe, mais tout de même un classique.

An ok album no bad songs but not many stand out songs the doors have better songs and better albums

I once stayed at Morrison Hotel. I murdered a young woman in the bathtub. I'm sorry. I'd had too much to drink. LOL! I didn't really! Gotcha! No, I was completely sober.

Has it's moments; not always been a big Doors guy but they are undoubtedly fantastic musicians.

Rating system (Most of these albums are shoo-in 5-star albums for anyone “into” the genre they represent, my system is trying to avoid all 5-star reviews and break them down to represent my tastes. This is subjective and supposed to be fun, and some of these are snap judgements/hot takes after listening to an album once.): * Why is this even on here/DNF ** Album with artistic merit, but not my jam. Will probably not listen to again without prompting. ***Solid album, would listen to again. Some significant flaws for me to fully enjoy as a “full album.” Most albums will be in this category, as it’s the legit average. ****Almost flawless album, only one misstep in tracklisting or small engineering quibbles. *****Flawless album, one of my favorites, owning is required. Day 3: Third day, and two Doors albums in those 3 days, sigh. Already mentioned my general apathy towards Morrison & co, but here it goes. This album is fine. It’s not filled with as many highs and lows as LA Woman, with a few standouts (the classic Roadhouse Blues opener and the openly Donovan-inspired Peace Frog are two that I really enjoyed). But, I posit this is a better album qua album than its follow-up because it’s snappy, and keeps to its ideas a lot more succinctly than LA Woman. Sure, it’s still doing a lot, the boards run from Hammond to electric piano to pipe organ, but it’s not getting lost in everything that it does. I’m not someone who hates noodling, but I do love a good dirty blues riff, and this delivers on that promise too. Morrison is his dark, brooding, “enigmatic” self, and it works here. He’s developing the sound that he uses in LA Woman, but it feels fresher and more intentional (than drug induced, though it’s likely that as well).

Solid 70’er blues rock, harmonika, klaver

good one

This one is always difficult for me. I love the Doors and love their catalog (for the most part). Morrison Hotel, in my eyes, is one of their less than stellar albums. It has some highlights and a few low spots. It’s a good listen if you put it on and sit outside on a nice summer day, where you can just get lost in the music.

For a brief moment in my life, I was pretty into these guys and listened to them quite a bit, including this album. Can't explain why, but fairly quickly I just didn't like it. It's one of those "on paper, it should be a perfect match" situations. I admire each of the musicians very much -- truly excellent at their craft -- and Jim Morrison's voice is understandably admired. I listened to this album today really trying to find in it what once interested me, but it's just kind of 'meh' for me. I did find that I still enjoy "Peace Frog" a lot.

I like side 1 far more than 2. I enjoy the blues rock songs and particularly funky Peace Frog. Not as overall enjoyable as LA Woman, but not awful.

This would have definitely not been my pick for a Doors album to include in this list, but I won't go over this list eccentricities again. It's not like this one is a bad album in any shape or form, it's just that, you know, LA woman, you're my woman

Liked it more than I thought I would!

I'm at a strange position with The Doors. I know they exist, but that's about as far as my knowledge of them goes. I don't know what their music sounds like, I don't know the context of their origins and I sure as hell don't know who their influences were. So really I am going into this album blind. Morrison Hotel sounds like another 70s blues rock album; a sound that's sonically rooted in rhythm and blues, with inflections of psychedelia and soul. It took a while for me to warm up to this album. Opening track Roadhouse Blues was a pretty standard blues (duh) number, while it was in no way technically bad, this writer found little to latch onto. Only when Peace Frog came on, with its jumpy organ and wah-soaked rhythm guitar, did I find myself wanting to continue with this endeavour. Blue Sunday, the track that follows, was a slower number, with the organs taking more of the sonic space here. The album would continue with diverse tempos and moods, rooted deeply in the sound that I have now deemed "my dad's rock and roll". Overall, Morrison Hotel was a slow starter, but patience rewarded this writer, if but modestly. Each band member had a level of competency that was greater than the sum of its part, whether it was the adventurous drums or the steady but tuneful bass, or the guitars and keys playing off each other without drowning the other out. An enjoyable listen over all.

good music, creative, I enjoyed, but not so good in overall; 3,5 stars

I don't know if I loved this particular album, but I am blown away by Jim Morrison himself. I didn't realize how young he was when he recorded this

Fínt blúsrokk.

Genre: Psychedelic Rock 3/5 The Doors rock, man. But this ain’t the 60s anymore, man, this is the turn of the decade. And they had just dropped, at least by their fans reception, their worst album, The Soft Parade. So, on the heels of that, this must’ve been QUITE the breath of fresh air for fans of The Doors. However, without that context, this comes off as your run-of-the-mills blues rock albums, with touches of the drudge that made them the pioneers of psychedelia that they were. It’s good, though. Loved The Spy, and the first couple of songs are pretty great, but the back half is bland and certainly not their best.

Excellent album. Standouts: Roadhouse Blues, Waiting for the sun, Blue Sunday, Land Ho!, Peace Frog, Indian Summer.

I'm not sure how well the doors music works on a stereo system. I do have the nigling feeling they were an excellent live band and by contrast their studio recordings often seem a bit, well flat. There are some great tracks on this album like the spacey 'Indian Summer', the groovy 'Peace Frog' and psychedelic tracks like 'Waiting For The Sun' and 'Blue Sunday'. I also really like the rolling groove of 'Land Ho!,' which is probably my favourite on the album. Less successful are the straightforward blues rock tracks like 'Roadhouse Blues' and some of the lyrics make nice poetry but don't really work in a song.

A solid Doors album.

Hadn't listened to this one before. Pretty good.

I haven't liked the Doors more than when I first listened to them, and less and less over time. There wasn't anything I particularly disliked from this album. I didn't feel like listening to any of the songs a second time either. "Roadhouse Blues" was the only song I know I've heard before. I have seen reviews of Peace Frog, but probably haven't heard the whole track before. I'm still a fan of what Ray Manzarek did on the keyboard.

I am a spyyyy 3.5/5

Rock blues

3,5 ster.

Some good songs but overall a bit dull.

Try as I might, I can appreciate but cant get into the doors

roadhouse blues is a banger, way more bluesy than I thought the doors were waiting for the sun is more in line with my image of the doors, with those dragging jim morrison vocals Peace Frog rocks This is just a blues album made in 1970 by white guys so its rock? somewhere between a 3 and a 4. Like, I really enjoyed listening to it, but I don't know that I'll listen to it again

Not their best

Some good ol’ ramblin’ rock. Songs sound quite similar to each other, but it’s definitely not a bad sound. Just nothing too memorable. 5/10

Really like The Doors. This is not my favorite album of theirs. Lots of samey sounding songs. Best track: Roadhouse Blues

Very bluesy. Sounded okay, but not as adventurous as some of their other albums.

Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Peace Frog, Land Ho!, The Spy, Queen of the Highway, Indian Summer Cutting Edge: Ship of Fools Overall Notes: MUCH prefer Side 2, which seems to be a hot take. Sometimes the psych blues just ain't rocking and the organ just rubs you the wrong way.

More bluesy/funky than I expected, some pretty good songs but overall probably not an album I'd listen to again as a whole

Classic album

I'm always up for a little Peace Frog. It's one of their better albums, hampered as usual by Morrison's descents into self-importance and a certain monotony at times in the music.

Solid with some good grooves to it, but not life-changing

Maybe the doors best

Fond of the Doors…..

This was a great album to listen to in the background while working, I loved the guitar twangs, felt a bit like Khruangbin in the best way. Nothing really stood out to me that I wanted to save, however. If the album ever came on, I wouldn't complain, but I won't be looking to listen again either. I just hope these boys were able to get a reservation at the Morrison Hotel, looks like fire sale prices.

I am familiar with Van Morrison. I knew a couple of the songs. Overall just alright.

Though a solid album, it's definitely ranked towards the bottom when compared exclusively with the other Doors albums.

The music here is fine, just all a bit same-y

Not actually objectionable.

not bad

Goed, herkenbaar, maar op een gegeven moment vind ik het wat lijzig worden.

Ive always kinda been unsure of how I feel about The Doors. Some songs ive heard I’ve liked, others I kinda haven’t cared about. This album kinda skews more towards songs I like, but it still doesn’t really grab me a whole lot overall. I think I like their vibe more than I like their actual songs.

this is fine

handful of great songs, handful of good songs, and some ok songs.

Not aging well …

SHAVE OUR TITTIES. I’m not the only one who thinks that when they hear “Save Our City” in Roadhouse Blues, am I? Eh, either way this is the first time I’ve ever listened to this record and it’s more blues rock than psych rock and I wish that was the other way around. Stuff I like (Indian Summer), stuff I don’t, pretty much the usual reaction except now I want to watch Oliver Stone movies and that new Val Kilmer doc.

~Roadhouse blues- hard elvis vibes but what can you expect from the 70s, really love the guitar in it, makes me feel like a cowboy villain, saw an angel number while listening to it. ~Waiting for the sun- a lot more chill compared to the first one but still not that slow, can see myself listening to it while watching the sunset on a cliff, love the constant change in tempo. ~You make me real- love the screams and grunts, too much 70s rock n roll for me, makes me wanna wear more red lipstick and cowboy boots. ~Peace frog- the adlibs in the back give it a fun texture, the rhythm is great but i would've loved a bit more heaviness in the guitar especially the solo. ~Blue sunday***- the slowest one yet, my favorite, the perfect song to listen to on a late night drive with a significant other or to be posted on insta with. ~Ship of fools- love the groove of the guitar in this, on the other hand i don't really like his voice texture. ~Land ho!- a more unconventional sea shanty, his style of singing gives me Stefan Hrusca romanian christmas carol vibes mostly at the start. ~The spy*- femme fatale kind of song, really love the rhythim, the piano is just incredibly used. ~Queen of the highway- a bit forgetable after all the other songs, the piano is the best part of it, gives badass 70s grandma vibes in the best way possible ~Indian summer**- even slower than blue sunday, perfect for a summer Rome brunch, superb instrumental. ~Maggie M'Gill- i like that he sings in a more grunty style but i don't know what else he does to change his singing style but it sounds very weird, would've expected a stronger end to the album. OVERALL, i would definitely listen a lot to the songs with a *. The album is for sure very good for the 70s. Not really my type of rock but i can get into it in the right mindset. Open to listening to more from them. <3

Classic Doors! TIL that the band had to sneak into the Morrison Hotel to take the picture for the cover art.

Eh, sort of enjoyed this, but again not wonderfully memorable.

i don't care much for the doors i don't think but this was ok. I remember liking land ho and the spy right now.

It was alright. not my bag baby

Piano heavy bluesy rock. If you're a fan of indie rock, this is the prototypical album.

Very bluesy but the best songs are the wonky ones which still are bluesy

Good flow from one song to the next. Not my favorite Doors album, but pretty solid.

It’s the Doors. Not crazy about this one but didn’t hate it. Some pretty good instrumentals on this one. Would probably grow on me.

The Doors leaning into a more blues-y sound. It's okay, not my favourite from them. Where are the 10-minute psychedelic epics? Has some great guitar work from Krieger, though. Favourite track: "Waiting for the Sun."

It was fun to revisit the doors, especially the 1st 4 tracks here.

Waiting For The Sun The Spy

i didn't hate this at all but prob will never listen again rip jim morrison

Pretty dope

No bangers, but good

Kind of boring, but not bad

Pretty OK, not my favourite album by them, nothing really memorable, but you can hear the style that is present in their iconic tracks 6/10

It has the vibe, but not my favorite from The Doors

It's okay, my previous comments on the Doors all still apply

I like the hits from The Doors, and that's about it.

Doors-jumittelua ja jamittelua. Ei oikein löytynyt hittibiisejä tai muutakaan innostavaa ja mieleenpainuvaa. Perusvahvaa suorittamista kuitenkin.

I didn't know any of these songs so the first listen was okay, but the album kind of grew on me on the second run

I thought it was p good :)

Meh...

It's alright - it's surprisingly more country than I was expecting. 6/10.

1970, Psychedelic rock, blues rock, geht klar, anders als Debütalbum, 5. Album mehr Blues, Debüt war mehr "upbeat", normale 3

i need drugs, like, more drugs.

Pretty standard "Classic Rock"

I'd like to check-in

Drugs may be bad, but they sound good. "Peace Frog" intro riff - Nirvana anyone?

Busy at work. CBA to write a review. It was average to me, with some notable tracks.

Not a huge fan of Blues Rock apparently

The more blues-rocky numbers are a bit boring to me, but still cool as fuck.

I tried to go into this album without thinking about all the other Doors albums and songs I’ve heard a million times and listen with fresh ears. This album doesn’t have a great single and I don’t think it has a top 15 Doors song. The things that stuck out that I liked were the organ and guitar and synth?? That was a new discovery for me and Manzarek was on the cutting edge with that stuff in 1970. The spooky songs are better than the blues songs and that holds for all of the Doors.

Not The Doors' best, but a decent album.

Good stuff, a bit better than the other album

Some funky instrumentals but I still find the vocals annoying. Was going to give a 4 after half listening but a 3 on rehearing it.

Debuten är bättre

Didn't hold up well.

I like the Doors. Good old Rock music

Too Soft

First time I hear a whole The Doors album and I was not dissapointed, even though the blues weren't really my taste some of the last trackas had that Doors taste

Ei paska mutta ei varsinaisesti hyväkään

Nothing I find myself humming to once I'm done listening, but I can definitely feel the tunes when the album's actually playing. Just not the best from the Doors.

Always a challenging listen when you open with your best track...

This is probably closer to 3.5 than 3 and i think could be a 4 in the future.

Ei parasta tuotantoaan, mut toimi kuitenkin

After experiencing their nadar, The Doors only had to climb back up but it's with the knowledge that things aren't going to be the same. Morrison Hotel is a good first step back in the right direction, as the band dips its toes into more blues influenced territory; a sign of things to come, even if it ends up being short-lived. Favorites: Roadhouse Blues, Waiting for the Sun, Peace Frog, Ship of Fools, Land Ho!, Queen of the Highway, Indian Summer.

Solid rock album

It's ok.

it's not bad but it's got nothing on the album with light my fire etc on it

Pleasant enough for me to not want to turn it off during my listen, but it made absolutely no impression on me beyond that. I feel no need to ever listen to it again.

Kind of lovely, though I’m not the biggest fan and I don’t know why. Perhaps it’s not an album for getting ready and a shower. Why do I think basically every album will be loved if only I listened on a drive to the beach? I think I like their other work more? HA I really must not be the biggest fan, I forgot I had another album so recently and had the same thought re listening on a drive. Or maybe I really would like them more on a drive?

Opens well but it's all downhill on the Jim Morrison Ego bus from there. Some good musicians don't cover up the sloppy poetry and shitty delivery, and the songs are mostly dead boring blues.

Review - never really had any interest in The Doors and this further cemented it. Uninteresting bang average blues rock that seems to have been popular at the time because of the singers public antics, if the Wikipedia page about this album is to be believed. Score - 5/10 Need to listen? NO

This was.. boring blues rock

super repetitive it wasn’t bad just too much and not really that unique it wasn’t bad tho

Waiting fort the sun, Maggie M'Gill were fine for my taste.

This album is perfectly fine I just don’t think The Doors are very interesting. 2.5 but I’ll round down.

I didn't really know the Doors, I thought they were boring lol Sonically just really impressive to me, all songs are really good. But I have to admit that listening to an entire blues album is a bit of a struggle to me, I get bored after a while.

Very bluesy. Not really my cup of tea, but I could probably listen to it all night long in a dive bar. Land Ho! is pretty boring. Actually not sure if the album as a whole went downhill for me at the end or if I just got tired. I doubt I'll want to listen to any of the songs again anytime soon. I didn't mind Queen of the Highway - it had a bit of a different vibe compared to the other songs. So did Indian Summer, which was pleasant - but felt very out of place in the album, compared to QotH. Maybe I'd prefer it to close out the album. I know I'm very much not the right audience for this album.

expected a bit more

Very disappointed in this

Don't get what people see in this really :(

I've never quite understood The Doors' vibe. I think it's a "you had to be there" thing. There's something sorta sinister about the electric organ they use in so many of their songs that makes their music sound like a bad trip ."Waiting for the Sun" is my highlight here.

I know a handful of Doors songs, and none of them were on this album, which sounds unlike any of those songs. Okay...?

I expected to like this, but was disappointed. Peace Frog was the only song that really stood out. Jim Morrison’s singing style/voice was boring and monotonous, and some of the lyrics were pretty cringeworthy. And music itself was nothing to write home about, basic bluesy songs for the most part. Meh.

This band is so overrated. Waiting for the Sun is the only standout song on this album. I find the rest of the songs to be bland and boring, and Morrison's reputation as a poet is baffling. My favorite example from the album: "Indians scattered on dawn's highway bleeding Ghosts crowd the young child's fragile egg-shell mind." Just no.

The Doors have never rung my bell. Some of their songs are ok. This album had nine of them.

Yeah at first i rly didnt like this. Snoozefest. It grew on me slightly but not much

4/10 When the Doors are at their best, they create an exciting blend of pop, blues and psychedelic rock that is swimming with charisma, rhythmic punch and plenty of memorable hooks. Sadly, this album falls well short on pretty much all of those metrics. While the performances are consistent and competent throughout, there is a fairly plodding, uneventful beige wash that permeates the soul of the record, from which it struggles to raise its head. While there are moments that Jim Morrison’s undoubted charisma peeks above the surface, for the most part he appears to be approaching this album in quite a lackadaisical way, with a lazy drawl and none of the fire and passion that characterises his most standout work. The rest of the band also have their moments, but there are also quite a lot of examples where things seem to just ramble along in a fairly generic, repetitive way that failed to capture my focus and stick in my mind. When they took time to step aside from the more generic blues-rock sound that much of the record showcased, they did start to bring a little bit of Doors sparkle and style to proceedings, but those moments were fairly scattered, and even then, I’d say that these cuts weren’t up to the standard that the group had set on previous records. Ultimately, I don’t think there was much about this album that really stuck with me and it ended up feeling like they were just writing and playing in a holding pattern, rather than trying to take strides in any particularly innovative or exiting direction. Apparently people love this album, but for me, if you took the Doors name off the cover, it would likely be viewed as a fairly by the numbers blues rock record that failed to make waves and would ultimately have been forgotten. Roadhouse Blues - It’s decent enough blues-rock fare, but it’s also fairly generic and repetitive. There’s obviously a level of charisma to Jim Morrison’s delivery, and it’s well performed with a decent amount of swagger and grit, but ultimately, it’s a fairly run-of-the-mill track that, while a decent example of the genre, doesn’t really offer anything to make it stand out beyond that. Waiting For The Sun - This is a little better as it leans a little more towards the psychedelic, particularly with the lovely addition of a basic Moog synth line. It’s a touch on the plodding side, but there’s at least a bit of musical and soundscape interest to the production that makes it sound more like the Doors than a more generic blues-rock band. It still doesn’t go as far as it could, but there are some really nice moments in there. You Make Me Real - Another that’s a bit more generic. There’s a bit more swagger and attitude from Morrison, and some decent riffs, but it all feels a bit like it’s been plucked from the setlist of any old dirty blues band. There’s nothing particularly hooky about it either, despite those decent riffs, so it all just sounds very standard. Peace Frog - This sounds more Doorsy straight out of the gate. The return of the characteristic organ sound is good and the shuffling swagger to the groove is cool too, with a nice switch up of emphasis into the chorus. There’s much more subtlety to the playing here and the composition is far more interesting than the more generic blues we’ve been given up to this point. It’s not their best work, but it’s at least a fairer representation of what they can do as a band. Blue Sunday - A stripped back one now that relies more on Jim Morrison’s vocal talents. It’s nice, has decent enough melodic moments but also feels a bit plodding and lazy in a way that doesn’t quite connect in the carefree way that I think they were intending. Ship Of Fools - This is quite meandering and unfocused. I’m not really sure what they were going for here, but it just feels musically cluttered and lacking in direction, kind of like a jam that hasn’t quite gone the way any of them were really expecting. It’s not very good. Land Ho! - We continue to ramble around in a way that’s half way between a nursery rhyme and a blues track. It’s somehow repetitive and unfocused at the same time, with the underlying musical structure just rolling round and round endlessly, while they noodle around on the guitar and vocal over the top. Very weird and also not very good. The Spy - Yet another fairly plodding and uninventive little ditty. It’s too staccato to really flow in places and, while I quite like the easy, jazz-blues nature of the verses, there’s nothing here to really stand out as being special or particularly interesting. I think I may have liked this a little more as part of a stronger set, but after the last couple of tracks, a sense of ennui has crept into the album and rather than being a nice diversion, it just feels a bit bland. Queen Of The Highway - Finally, things pick up a bit. It’s still not the Doors at their best, but there’s decent groove, some interesting counterpoint between the different lines and a good bit of swagger and fun to it too. It’s cool and has a sense of adventure and a return of charisma, not only from Morrison, but the band seem to have found a touch of that old mojo again. Indian Summer - A drifting, more melodically and harmonically rich composition now. It’s back to the more hippy sound of their more psychedelic work and while it drifts in and out of focus, it does feel a bit more purposeful and directional. Again, it’s not their best work, but it’s not as generic as some of the weaker cuts on this album. Maggie M'Gill - Again, this is fairly generic bluesy stuff that doesn’t really do anything particularly exciting or standout. It’s good for what it is, but it feels a touch lazy really and quite repetitive. Some of the call and response from the guitars is ok, but it’s dragged out to a point where it becomes a bit dull and uninspiring. A fairly meh end to a fairly meh album.

Typical 70s sound, funky, sth youd hear in a bar, i like Blue Sunday and Indian Summer

Espresso + a gallon of water

Roadhouse Blues is nice after listening to a bunch of other albums of Brits pretend to be raucous american blues bands but I'm just not high enough for the rest of this album.

indian summer is like the only song by The doors ive enjoyed so far

mid- rock, I just did not enjoy this album. i’m not an across the board hater of the vox continental, but i don’t like how The Doors use it, especially in this album. they are just very of the era and i don’t think it stands the test of time like some of their other songs. it’s not awful, just not the classic rock album i’d put on if i had the choice

(2.5) i found the album a bit hit or miss. i really liked the bass in peace frog

I already had roadhouse blues the rest of the album Is meh

boring

Roadhouse Bluse, Peace Frog, and Maggie M'Gill are all great blues rock songs. It's all the other stuff I can't stand.

I definitely didn’t NEED to listen to this before I die, as the book this list is based on suggests. The Doors songs are so hit or miss. Couple decent songs on the album, but I’m fine not listening to this one again.

Didn’t do a whole lot for me

Förstår att det är inflytelserikt o viktigt, ibland balla riff o najs sound men inte superintressant för mig.

I think generally anything created before the mid 70s isn't for me. This is too blues-y for my taste tbh

Standard Doors music, bluesy piano rock

nicht meine musik. mir geht die country schiene auf die nerven so langsam.

I get the Doors hate, I really do. But there’s a difference between disliking the Catholic Church and being molested by them. Jim Morrison never touched my butthole, so I don’t have to think about him that often.

not for me sorry doors

I definitely didn’t NEED to listen to this before I die, as the book this list is based on suggests. The Doors songs are so hit or miss. Couple decent songs on the album, but I’m fine not listening to this one again.

Strong, stirring start with crunchy guitars, toe-tapping bass lines and honky-tonk piano, but descends into a fever dream of an album which lacks depth. By the time you reach Indian Summer (apparently the first song ever recorded by The Doors, but one that didn't make the first album cut) it's a mess, the lyrics are the output of a 5yo, and the instrumentation masquerades as psychedelic and moody, but is weak an uninspiring. 2 stars.

The doors don’t deserve two albums on this list, especially if this is the second one.

wait you're telling me 3 doors down wasn't a cover band with missing members?

Boring

Like all the doors music, I find this incredibly bland, boring, and self-indulgent

indian summer me gusto el resto zzz

ниче не добавил но в целом вайб имеется

Lo escuché mientras hacia lo de morfo

I didn’t enjoy this, not awful but I didn’t want to finish it

The only song I like on this is Peace Frog

Torrada, no me gusta the doors

Never have got into the Doors. Classic Rock is not my thing in general but these guys are pretty low down when it comes to the genre itself IMHO. Is his sultry voice that gets people? Or the mythical status surrounding Morrison? Maybe seeing them live was a big thing. Who knows? But it just sounds like bog standard white boy blues rock that sprawls out a bit to make it 'psychedelic'.

Bien lo escribió alguien en una reseña, The Doors están sobrevalorados. Me parece que solo valen la pena como 2-3 canciones. Nada más.

The actual music of the doors is not bad for white-guy-blues. There’s LOTS of good piano. The problem with the doors is Van Morrison. He sounds like some guy they picked up off the street who is just making it up as he goes and he’s just drunk enough to think he’s nailing it. Like how he’ll repeat the same line a few times like he thinks it’s clever.

mid 2 when all inspiration has dried up, play the blues. im a massive fan of the doors first album. this challenge has shown me they really didnt live up to their potential on later albums its a shame

I didnt like it that mucho, it's very neutrual

Don’t hate ‘em, but don’t love ‘em either.

Not bad. Just not a fan

Lowkey unimpressed. Nice vibes though.

Don’t really relate to the lyrics but there is no denying it’s a great band and good background music

It felt like they were trying out all sorts of genres and styles but not in the experimental exploration way, but in the "we have no idea what we're doing way". It was kinda disjointed and I just didn't particularly care about either the music or the lyrics. It was disappointing.

Chevere, but not my style

Welp, they can't all be rated 3-stars and above. The only song that caught my attention was Blue Sunday, but no other song will not be revisited. At least the album is short.

Still hate The Doors
