Reminds me if being drunk for some reason
Bluesy rock ’n roll. Abit boring. Like Morrison’s voice.
Not their best album. Morrison so overrated as a lyricist, pointless poetry that most of the time goes nowhere. But the musicianship is quality, especially for the “psychedelic” era. I’ll give this a three since I have three songs in my Doors playlist.
Shocked that this album made the list, but I guess after "The Soft Parade", anything could sound brilliant. I'm rating this as The Doors 4th or 5th best album, so, whoever compiled this list, must really like The Doors. Not saying that that's a bad thing.
Pretty forgettable and pretty boring. I guess the music was good though but nothing to go out of your way for.
Started out well but fizzled out down the stretch.
I think I’ve outgrown the allure of Jim Morrison, but the musicianship is still top tier.
It was just OK... I'm not a huge fan of The Doors.
for some reason I listened to The Spy a lot on my ipod nano, I think I was trying to get into The Doors for some "trying to be moody and have rock cred" reason that now escapes me. anyway....sounds like The Doors yeah
The bluesy charm that had been sporadically introduced into the Doors’ repertoire on previous albums was in full swing here. While the songs themselves mostly don’t stand up to the band’s best efforts, it’s hard to deny how fun the album is altogether
Bro i got thru five songs and was like this albums great 5 stars no problem, and then the rest of the album was pretty bad, like worse than what a band in high school could write so unfortunately now its at a 3star
Interesting album, shows quite a diversity of sound.
I really tried with this one. It's okay. Wish I liked the doors more than I do
Let it roll, baby, all night long. Tweede hoogtepuntje is Peace Frog. 7/10 Highlights Roadhouse Blues Peace Frog
3.6 stars rounded up.
Mid in every conceivable way.
Nothing special. Just another Rock album with a few good songs in a sea of mid.
You could tell that these guys were having a lot of fun making this album. There was a good spirit in the recordings. I think if Jim and the rest of the band were on their game, this would have been a great album to tour on.
I generally think Jim Morrison is one of the more overrated vocalists of all time but the hard rockin' version is definitely better than the king snake LSD poetry or cloying pop hits so I'll give 'er a 3
'Waiting for the Sun' is a great track. The rest was not as good as their earlier stuff, as they had moved away from their psychedelic sound. Still, it's pretty good overall, but the Doors never made it into my egular rotation of goto 60's/70's music. So it's just a low 3.
Felt very rollicking
Still don't see the charms of the band.
It was alright. Nothing spectacular but decent enough
As I’ve mentioned before Doors were never a favourite band of mine but cannot deny The Doors were big and deserving to be on this list. Having said that now I have listened today to this album I quite liked it. Not remarkable for me but appreciate why millions would and did rate it. 3/5 9/10/24
I dont think i love the doors
Hell yea brother
I like the doors but need to listen to the album again
This album's two sides are labeled as such: "Hard Rock Cafe" (that's the first five or six tracks, depending on if "Blue Sunday" is separated or not) and "Morrison Hotel" (the rest, from "Land Ho!" on). "Hard Rock Cafe" is the "blues" half of the album. Now, I was ready to write off this half because The Doors have always been a psychedelic rock band in my mind's ear. So, this whole "return to roots" blues thing... I didn't think I'd be too much for it, but y'know what? It's good stuff. I won't say I'm amazed by it, but there's some pretty good stuff here. Well, aside from the opener "Roadhouse Blues", anyway. I'unno, for some reason it didn't do anything for me, either time I heard it. Maybe it's just too generically "60's blues rock?" I dug everything else, though. "Peace Frog" is a bit of the Doors sound I come from, and "You Make Me Real" is a rollicking piece of garage blues. "Waiting For The Sun" is a pretty neat stand-out, too. I'd give it a 4 in total. As for the second half, "Morrison Hotel" (the psych half)... Y'know, this is the half you'd expect I like more. It's the sound I come to expect from the band, after all. But then, the sound I expect comes from their hit singles and Weird Al's pastiche. "Light My Fire", "Love Me Two Times", "Riders On The Storm"... Heck, even "Touch Me", from the album whose negative reception was the whole reason this album, and side one in particular, was made. That kind of fun psychedelia, or at least atmospherically ethereal enough. And "Land Ho!" is the former for me; I'll point that one out as a favorite. But everything after that... I'unno; I'd be hard pressed to remember anything specific from them. I suppose "Indian Summer" comes closest to the "ethereal" point, and my lack of ability to pay attention could be more general and blamed on a tiredness I've been feeling all day, but I'll say it again: I'unno. I didn't hate any of it, so it's worth a 3 at least, but I think this side could've stood to be a bit more... More. Balance the two sides out, it's a 3.5, which... Mm, honestly, I'd bump down to a 3. Even as much as I liked the first side and "Land Ho!", looking at the whole package... I don't think it would've been my first pick for my group's first The Doors album.
Strong beginning of the album, but didn’t enjoy later songs as much.
Yes, and no. Good, but cringey. Classic, but annoying. Should I rate from a "this is important music from an important band" perspective or should I stick to "do I like it, or not?" That is the conundrum for 90% of these 1001 Albums, right?
Perfectly acceptable.
Not available in my jurisdiction… Looking elsewhere.
It was okay. It was a lot more focused on jamming than on the songwriting, compared to the self titled album.
Starts off with a bang. Downhill from there.
A totally fine blues rock album, not much more to say, I guess
Big shocker, but the first song reminded me of the 1989 movie Roadhouse starring Patrick Swayze. So then I spent the rest of the album thinking about how much I disliked Roadhouse. Favorite song(s): Waiting for the Sun, Queen of the Highway Least favorite: Roadhouse Blues Knew before? no
Some good tracks there, 3.5*
I like the bluesy piano in a song I don't think I'd previously heard. I generally like the Doors, and once a year or so, I'll seek them out on purpose. This album was overall engaging. Not sure if it was nostalgia or if I genuinely dig the music. But today I enjoyed it.
It's a great mix of mellow and blues with a good variety
nicht schlecht, aber auch nichts besonderes.
War okay.
Ganz nette Tunes dabei, aber allgemein geht so
A good album. Very consistent. No high highs, no low lows. Morrison's voice is always great. 3/5
Strange Days is a better Doors album, why isn't that here. I was regularly told Morrison Hotel was the best Doors record in the 90s, but back then they also said Sgt Peppers was the best Beatles album. I never really understood either argument. So they were already good at extolling flagrantly untrue things way back then. Waiting For The Sun is the best song here by a million miles, and still sounds fantastic. As does Peace Frog to be fair. Reminds me that the album Waiting For The Sun is also better than this. What follows is never bad, but it doesn't linger in the memory, like the good stuff. Genuinely, with The Doors I think all you really need is the debut, Strange Days and then Best of the Doors.
I enjoyed this album more that I thought I would, but it didn't particularly resonate even after a couple of listens. Would be a 3.5, but going to:
A solid 3 stars! I wasn't a huge fan of the one song on this that I knew from Greatest Hits but the whole album flows pretty nicely. Would listen again but wouldn't really seek it out.
Not bad at all. Decent album
A nice selection of songs, however there were a few I did not like that much. Standout tracks: You Make Me Real, Blue Sunday, The Spy, Indian Summer
If you're into this kind of music, this is probably pretty great. At times I got into it and really enjoyed it, but most of it just didn't really click with me and I got bored about halfway through. Favorites: "Roadhouse Blues", "Peace Frog", "The Spy"
Roadhouse Blues is a brilliant song. Peace Frog and Maggie M’Gill are good too. Rest of the album is ok 3/5
I forgot how great a song Roadhouse Blues was. The rest of the album was pretty good despite me having a preconceived notion that the Doors weren't all that exciting a band.
3 - I like the doors for their weird but timeless like people are strange and riders of the storm (bandwagon I know) This was not that, but it did start strong. However, it quickly fell off for me and the ending was actually tough to get through
I think I liked this more than L.A. Woman, but I there were still some highs and lows. The keys still slap and there are some very cool moments.
Good blues rock
The doors are good but this isn't their best
Similar to REM, I enjoy the odd single but the album doesn’t do much for me.
I like some songs on here, but I’d be fine having only one Doors album (their debut), and even with 3, why no Strange Days? Like I’m not mad about it or anything, but that would make way more sense to include than this album. It’s still fine though.
I've heard this one plenty of times before. It's good, classic Doors. Good enough to hear again. That's a three from me.
Great A Side, typical Doors sound, classic
that little "gunk gunk duuuhnk guh duh dunk" riff in "waiting for the sun" makes me gotta beep a gunk a chucha honk konh konh kadanta
This one feels a little generic to me. It feels like any random rock record from the late 60s. It's not a bad record but it doesn't stand out to me either.
Good but a bit forgettable. Not a whole lot sticks out here apart from Roadhouse Blues and Peace Frog for me. I like the Doors, just don't love them.
I somehow never realized that Roadhouse Blues was a Doors song. I have never been a big fan of The Doors and this did little to change my opinion. I mean it’s good, but probably not something I would go back to often. Favorite songs were Roadhouse Blues, Waiting For The Sun, You Make Me Real, and Queen Of The Highway.
less bougie than the Hotel California
i actually enjoyed more than some hits ive heard.
I’ve never listened to a full Doors album. This isn’t the one I would’ve picked on my own, though it’s not bad. I know The Doors are regarded as one of the great classic rock bands, and while I’ve never listened to much beyond their most well-known songs (and I remember seeing bits and pieces of the Val Kilmer-led biopic growing up), my appreciation for them comes mainly from how they influenced some of my favorite post-punk bands. My first exposure to Echo and the Bunnymen was from their “People Are Strange” cover from The Lost Boys. And Ian Curtis of Joy Division was obviously influenced by Jim Morrison as a singer — which always makes me laugh, because poor Ian didn’t have 1% of the charisma Jim did (sorry). The Cure have a cover of “Hello I Love You” that’s not very well known but is decent. Anyway, getting back to the album. It’s a fun listen, I just don’t quite get why this specific album is on here. Their first couple albums, sure. But this is just more of the same with no real innovation. It’s pretty typical blues with psychedelic influence. It’s got some great performances and catchy songs, but there’s nothing that really stands out here. Highlights: Roadhouse Blues, Peace Frog, Ship of Fools 3.5/5

I didn't hate it but I don't know if I really liked it either.
I had listened to this a handful of times before. I like it but it's not my favorite Doors album. There are a few pretty solid tracks but a lot of it is kinda of boring and feels like it lacks passion. I like the more bluesy sounding songs. I also like the organ and harmonica when it comes in.
3/5 - still just the doors
The Doors have an unmistakable style. Good riffs and vocals, a little dreary but in a satisfying way.
Decent. Not as good as I expected
3☆/5 08.05.2024
Kinda over the doors now. Was find.
This is not bad, not as overwrought as I thought it might be
it was fine. i would listen to peace frog again and that's about it.
I enjoyed having it on. No one song really stood out to me. I do love that organ sound.
another doors album, another real mixed bag here. there are great songs on this record that i like a lot, 'roadhouse blues' and 'queen of the highway,' there are some decent, pretty good songs here as well, 'waiting for the sun' and 'peace frog,' and there are songs that are, quite frankly, kind of dull, 'indian summer' and 'ship of fools.' just imo a pretty uneven album from a band i can never decide where i stand on them. sometimes they are great, sometimes they are not. as always, the musicianship here is great. the songwriting and the vocals have the biggest sway in quality. the more i listen to the doors, the more i land in the middle on them, which is where i feel this one lands as well.
I like The Doors. They were very popular through the 80's. I know for some reason some people don't take them very seriously. This is not my favorite album of theirs but its good. It seems to run out of steam through the 2nd side. And its missing the one killer tune although some may think Roadhouse Blues is it,; I don't. 3.4
Pretty cool dad rock that is best enjoyed with a side of drugs.
Definitely not my favorite Doors album by far but after the initial 3 boring blues tracks they picked the speed back up. Blue Sunday, Peace Frog, Ship of Fools, Land Ho! and Indian Summer are all great Doors deeper cut tracks.
I'm not a Doors enjoyer but this album was ok! I didn't find any specific songs very memorable but I do like their style/bluesy-ness
Starts of dyno-mite! Not the biggest Doors fan in the world, and though the album is better than several others ones' I've had the displeasure of having to listen to, I know 100s that are better... But that's my opinion...
This was okay overall. I couple real standout songs. Peace Frog is still a favorite.
It's ok, nothing special. I preferred their self-titled record.
FAVO: Roadhouse Blues, Ship of fools, The Spy
I head peace frog before; I liked it. The rest didnt impress.
It was better than LA Woman
Aspettative troppo alte
Bem repetitivo
this album is okay. I think I like it more than the self-titled album, but I'ma be real and admit that none of these songs stand out to me. I think I'm too familiar with modern music because music from a certain time period feels like it's lacking.
I like The Doors, and "Morrison Hotel" is a fine album, but I don't think it is their best, and if it made my Top 3 albums of theirs, it would be 3rd. However, I may even put it 4th. So, ultimately, yeah, I think it is good, but I can't really say, at this point, that it is anything I get as excited about as their other stuff that is more poignant and still haunting to this day.
Another Doors album. They honestly had a bigger output than I expected, given how young Jim Morrison died. This met the expectation of a Doors album. It was bluesy, a little psychedelic, and had some elements of harder rock here and there. The organ was back but not quite as prominent as I would’ve liked. But it was just ok. Like I said, it met expectations for a Doors album. Didn’t exceed them, didn’t fall short. It just was. And that’s all I kind of have to say. Three stars. I am whelmed. Also I’ve heard “Roadhouse Blues” waaaaaaaay too many times in stadiums that I just cannot list it as a Standout Track. Sorry not sorry. Standout Tracks: You Make Me Real, Peace Frog, Ship of Fools, Queen of the Highway, Maggie M’Gill
Starts out strong with the first two tracks, couple other good ones scattered throughout, a few stinkers. If this Doors album made the list there's going to be more of them on it. They deserve all the praise and credit but this is not my favorite of theirs. It gets a little "merry-go-round/carnival-esque" at parts but I do like the return to blues. A fun journey and a decent listen.
Side A...yes, Side B...meh. Are all the Doors albums gonna make the list cause this is not their strongest? Roadhouse blues and Peace Frog top the track list. Really only like Maggie McGill on Side B...2.7.
3.5
Sure, the rocky bluesy thing is cool. But it feels a bit one note and some of the lyrics are a bit simplistic for my taste.
Jingle, jangle. Jim Morrison with amazing presence and voice. Otherwise not too memorable for me, and a lot less interesting than their earlier records.
I enjoyed the album but didnt find anything that really stood out to me
Not my fave Doors album.
Maybe 2. They need to calm down yo
There's nothing special in this album. I liked the synth parts (I almost always like those). The album itself is quite good. A few songs were forgettable. I hope the rest of the Doors' discography is better than is. I'll give "Morrison Hotel" 3 stars.
The doors the doors is better
didn’t enjoy this one very much, although I do like other material by The Doors.
At first, I sighed, the Doors.... again. It felt too soon but, all in all this was a pretty good listen, will not put it in rotation -- but good hear.
# 249 : A bit of an over-rated band with some great tunes on occasion. They've done a pretty decent job with this pretty good album though.
Just doesn't hit like it did in HS
An album like driving on the highway in Summer. Sounds kind of nice, right? But when you think about it for more than a second, it's still just driving in a straight line while the seat gets more and more uncomfortable and the AC is blasting because it would be unbearably hot otherwise. Not the worst kind of activity, you might actually enjoy unwinding a bit, but not something I would seek regularly either.
Still don’t love the Doors. But I will admit Morrison is a better vocalist than I had previously given him credit for.
Was better than expected
Waiting for the sun sampled by girl talk very cool
I liked the unserious vibe of some songs. However after some point they started blending into each other and being a bit repetitive. Stand-out: Land Ho!
Always a lot of filler on a doors album.
Roadhouse Blues and Peace Frog are awesome tracks. The rest just sounds a bit lazy e.g. Land Ho. “The Doors? Jim Morrison? He’s a drunken buffoon posing as a poet” - Lester Bangs (The late Philip Seymour Hoffman) in Almost Famous. I took offense to this when I first saw the movie. But the older I get and listen to the Doors, the more I tend to agree.
I was never a great Doors fan. I’ll give the man his due, he certainly has a sultry and other worldly charm, and it carries over into his music; but like a lot of this late 60s stuff it feels rather pedestrian without the assistance of a narcotic haze.
Not 100% my jam, but easy listening. Funky guitar in there
Love the keyboards and some of the drumming. Lyrics are desperately simple and lazy at times which made me cringe e.g blue Sunday. I'm familiar with the Doors but never heard a whole album from them. Nice to delve into their sound but not likely to come back to this one.
Shout out to 13 year-old me for having great taste in classic rock. The Doors are still great, and many of the tracks I had never heard, because I was a greatest hits basic boy.
Good album. Some of the songs were fun and the bluesy influence was nice. 3/5 Might listen again
Ok, some good songs, some a bit samey.
An iconic bluesy/ rocky sound
Nice, better than I thought it might be
This is not my favorite doors album. I still like some moments of it, not the whole thing though. Will I listen to again: 25%
The organ tones are a little too circus-y for me. The blues stuff is ok but there’s not much room in my heart for white guy blues beyond zep and stones
Good listen.
Not a huge fan of The Doors's later works. Other than a few numbers like "Blue Sunday," "Morrison Hotel" is skip worthy.
I have never listened to a full Doors album. I think their saturation and ubiquitous-ness in american culture and cinema in particular has turned me off. After a listen I was taken aback by the power: this album had almost a heavy metal vibe. Morrison is subtler and more gentle at times than I imagined. Don't get me wrong; the animalistic, gutteral howls are there. But he hits different emotions and tones as well.
Not as bad as I thought it would be
Idk, I just couldn't get into it. A few great standouts but it gets kinda boring.
I liked this. Sounded like Neil Hannon at times too. 3.8
Not my favorite Doors album, but it's still the Doors
Better than I expected. It was quite enjoyable, though not something I would often listen to. 3.5 stars.
Ganz cooler RocknRoll
I don't mind The Doors, but I have a pretty low tolerence of 2-3 Doors songs before I get a bit bored. A full album just ain't for me. 3/5
It's way upbeat this album. Lots of driving songs with interesting guitar and cool keys. It dies down a bit towards the end. 3.5 rounded down.
When I was younger, I had a ‘Best of the Doors’ compilation which was a pretty good selection of tracks from all eras of the band. However, the track order is burnt into my synapses so that when I hear Roadhouse Blues I expect it to be followed by LA Woman, which is kind of jarring when Waiting for the Sun comes on. Taken as a whole, this is a solid blues rock album although Jim Morrison’s voice sounds much older than the 27 years old he was at the time.
Had a lot of fun with this. Might have been a 3.5 but the second half of the record is a lot weaker than the first.
A couple of stand out tunes but gets a bit boring
I have never listened to an entire Door’s album. I must say that I always had some bad feelings about The Doors, but the truth is that I liked this album! A strange and cool mixture of blues, rock and the keyboard. 🥰
Solid. Hadn’t realised I liked The Doors!
The deeper cuts? Nothing.
Actually don’t know much of The Doors. Cool, not as weird and psyche-y as I expected. Much more bluesy
Por el de al green
Okayy
A few gems... the rest, ok.
Rockin from start to finish
okay i know this is classic classic rock, but it’s a lil too country for me, vv fun but only in a particular vibe
Meh, it was kinda fun
Struggled on this one. LOVE the music, dislike Jim Morrison's singing and lyrics. 2.5/5
bin jz bi queen of the highway und muss sege bin nöd mega begeisteret? abgseh vo the spy woni mega geil gfunde han, isch alles für mich chli z langsam und mengisch "chinderliedmässig" gsi? chammer vorstelle dassmers mit musigtheoretuschen wüsse meh fühlt aber ja bis jz isches naja okay zweiti hälfti gfalltmer um einiges besser jaa trotzden hets wenig in mier usglöst:(
This far from my favorite Doors album. This record stays firmly in "The Doors Sound" with a compelling organ focus and a boozy rock sound. However it all sounds a bit far from what makes the Doors great. With the exception of the standout Roadhouse Blues, Morrison sounds more restrained, and the music feels a bit too influenced by other bands. In some ways this is very cool, to hear The Door's spin on the Beach Boys and the Beatles. But this album is a bit too jazzy, and a bit too much of a stretch from the quintessential sound the Doors became known for in their freshman self-titled record.
Don't care for the doors, but it was not terrible. Just not for me
first track was great, got bored thereafter
Solid 3.5
it was decent
Got a bluesy feel. Kinda liked most of the tracks. I give it 3 stars.
Nice album
I like the doors and Jim Morrison but this doesn't strike me as their best work.
It has some cool songs, not my favorites album but i'll pasa
Was OK. Quirkier than I expected.
A little more mature as a record than others from the Doors - and also a pleasant listen at times a bit somehow I don’t know what happened but I’m totally off Jim Morrison these days - I find him cringe and he totally puts me off the band.
3/5. Love roadhouse blues. The rest is okay.
I think their debut album had a better sound.
It's like a 2.5 for me. I think LA Women is their seminal album.
pretty good, nice vocals and guitar. not amazingly standout album but enjoyable listen nonetheless:))
Groovy rock, I like the organ inclusion
The Doors Morrison Hotel 66.15 Roadhouse Blues(77) Waiting for the Sun(82) You Make Me Real(60) Peace Frog(85) Blue Sunday(60) Ship of Fools(60) Land Ho!(54) The Spy(60) Queen of the Highway(65) Indian Summer(67) Maggie M'Gill(48)
Meh
This was a good but straight forward collection of tracks. Very clean blues rock, fun to listen to but didn't blow me away. Many songs were massive hits and of course very familiar. Some were less popular or new to me. But as an album composition, it was sort of just a collection of fun tunes to me.
I don't think I can give it 4*, but 3 is quite harsh. Solid 72/100.
A few of big songs, but more so a return to the Blues core of the Doors. The band made themselves commit to their return and it paid off well
i didnt skip much. 3.5
A bit boring in parts but overall pretty good. Soft 3.5
It was fine
harder rock than i was expecting ngl
This only somewhat sounds like The Doors that I'm used to. Even still, it's not a bad listen at all!
I liked it, had some cool stuff on it and a nice mix. Not sure if I’ll revisit it so giving it a mid score.
it's fine lol
None of the Doors’ albums matched their self-titled debut or the follow-up Strange Days, but this one comes close. Really everything in their discography is very good, albeit there’s not a lot of albums considering Jim Morrison’s early death. “Peace Frog” is the highlight of this album for me. While rather upbeat it’s fairly political, condemning actions of the police (both for Morrison’s on-stage arrest in New Haven and the mishandling of the 1968 DNC convention protest in Chicago).
That's So Doors
Nothing here caught me... easy listen though.
Better than I expected. Enjoyed it
Quite like the Doors but not their best album
I really expected to hate this, but it was pretty tight. The organ is just a totally uncool instrument though.
Good but i think I like their self titled one more.
Easily The Doors at their most forgettable, at times almost sounding like a blues cover band playing at a fair.
The Doors are a weird band. When they’re good, they are among the greatest to ever play the blues. “Waiting For the Sun” and “Peace Frog” are clear examples of that. I just think that a lot of their other material sounds like any other blues rock band. And I don’t quite get the hype, when they fall into that pit.
Listened
Some of the songs on this album are fantastic, but some are fairly forgettable. I listened to this a few times to see if it would grow on me more and several times I actually forgot it was even playing. Could have been a great album with a bit more killer, less filler. Highlights: Roadhouse Blues, You Make Me Real, Peace Frog / Blue Sunday, Maggie M’Gill
Solid doors album.
Just classic Doors isn't it! Exactly what you would expect. And I thought it was totally fine!
You know what, I like the Doors but I don't love them. After a while it all sounds the same. They definitely created a good sound and were very pioneering and all that but I simply don't like listening to them for more than a few songs.
I’m sure I like it years ago, but the music doesn’t hold up.
Consistent blues record. The doors have never really done much for me, and this didn’t do anything to change my mind really. A solid record. 6/10
Had a few great songs, a few bad songs and a few in the middle.
Great album. Good composition. Going between 3-4 stars. Will land on 3 stars because I don’t know that I’ll seek the album out, but would enjoy when it’s on.
3 stars
I’ll admit that I enjoyed some of the musical arrangements and song structure, but Jim Morrison is remembered as a buffoon who wrote children’s book lyrics for the average educated manchild.
Starts off with a country tune and progressive into psychedelic rock has a calmer nature to it I like it. Poetic genius 3.4/5
Whenever I feel like a bad lyricist, I remember that Jim Morrison was venerated and then I don't feel as bad A passable album with a few high notes, but definitely not too route one to be one of their greats.
Solid
solid 60's rock. the doors are alright. don't mind listening to them, but don't think i'll return to this album for a while
Fine. Listenable. Some songs like the Divine Comedy.
Another fun album. Fun use of synths on Waiting for the Sun. Heavy blues influence
Some iconic songs - some other not so iconic songs. Could tell this was the turn of the decade. Decent album - glad i listened to it. Would like to own it on vinyl
Very hit or miss album. Front-loaded with most of the best tracks, it gets too repetitive as time goes on, and all the final tracks seem to sound alike. Roadhouse Blues is the obvious star of the show here, but my personal favorite track from this album has always been Waiting for the Sun. The first 30 minutes of the album show The Doors true range, switching from hardcore blues to psychedelic rock. While Jim Morrison’s sultry baritone and growling vocals are at the forefront, Manzerek and Krieger’s unique musicality make these tracks truly special. Unfortunately, the final tracks all share the same bluesy riffs and listening to the last half of the album is a bit of a chore.
A couple of great tracks. Roadhouse Blues is a classic, of course, and Waiting for the Sun is an interesting prog-y departure from the general bluesiness of the rest of the album.
The piano in the first track, wish it carried all the way through. I've enjoyed The Doors since my mid-twenties when I moved to Moranbah.
Like a lot of these albums, this is something I could probably grow to appreciate with more attentive listens, but I was pretty ambivalent on my first one. Just didn’t do much for me on this particular day.
It's a fine album. Not really my jam.
Well, The Doors have a very distinguished style. Some like it, some don't. I like it, but this album asn't anything over the top for my personal taste. Good music though.
Blues rock, the Doors - if you’ve heard either before then you’ve heard this album.
Good tunes on one side, pretty meh on the other, not an easy album to rate. That being said, I have to bump it up to a 3 because it is actually a pretty good album
Some really good stuff on that album!
ANother one hit wonder
Classic bluesy rock. 3/5
First time through an entire Doors album and I thought it was pretty good. More eclectic than I expected.
half of the album is great (see Peace Frog and Roadhouse Blues), half the album is obnoxious. So you know, it's a door's album.
fav songs: blue sunday (oh my god it’s so good love the vibe), the spy, indian summer not my cup of tea tbh but it’s a vibe
Not my jam. A bit too sloppy for my taste.
Definitely not a great Doors album, but I didn’t hate it.
6/10
Hit or miss rock album with some bluesy tracks and others with pop elements. The poppy ones are enjoyable. Favorite tracks: Peace Frog, Land Ho!
Listened to it twice and couldn't tell you a single thing about it
5.5/10 Highlights: Peace Frog Waiting for the Sun
Some great songs, some not so great
Peace Frog slaps but everything else was fine
I think I love the idea of the Doors, more than I love the Doors. Great song or two on this one, but the non singles don't jump out and do much for me on this one.
The Doors were an incredible band and they absolutely deserve to be on this list. Just not with this album. (I don't like numeric ratings, I just give 3 to anyone)
definitely not my favorite. very repetitive.
haven't heard it yet
Nice but not my cuppa
Solid
Good fun, not my fav stuff, similar to previous albums of same genre
Good car music
Some decent songs in here but most of this album felt very slow
I spent time with the Doors as a teenager, but not a lot of time with their albums. This was a solid if not great album that felt like songs the band enjoyed playing in a roadhouse more than the hits. Morrison’s voice was always magic.
Gg
Not bad, not a massive fan, but its pretty good still. Only added one song to main playlist. Very good example of its time, and i like the usage of piano.
Was ok.
This album is cooler than I’ll ever be.
Backing band was great, but man I do not like Morisson.
Pretty gud
It needed in my opinion more of the Classic Doors sound. While I understand it’s important comeback history and the time period I find myself wondering why this album is celebrated. It’s fine to me.
Liked the psychedelic stuff but the bluesy stuff was little mid for me. This album could have been greatly improved with more organ
I'm more of a fan of The Doors' psychedelic sound vs. their blues sound, but this is still quality Doors music. Jim's voice is as prominent as ever and the instrumentation is great. Unfortunately, there just isn't much that really stands out for me.
First song was a banger. Liked the style of the music overall, but the lyrics were so simplistic. I thought Morrison was supposed to be known for being basically a poet. Maybe that’s on a different album?
Good music, balanced mix of jamming with regular song structures. However, overall I didnt find it very catchy, so a 3/5 for me.
Peace frog is awesome.
Really fine, no single bangers but enjoyable
Not bad or anything, just not for me
64/100
Pretty good, I like the doors, though this one didn't hit as hard as their singles have for me in the past.
This is the second doors album that I’ve got on the list. It isn’t as cohesive as LA woman, and stylistically It departs a bit with more reliance on piano and dirge like tunes. Nevertheless, it is stylistically interesting - Morrison is commanding as ever, and it tells a story.
3 stars
Not a massive fan of the roadhouse rock aesthetic of this album. Definitely prefer other albums of theirs. 3/5
The album with "People are Strange" song
unfair listen.
Pretty nice. I liked it.
Great traveling mood music. Doors were always great
I think it had a large variety of song styled and vocals, and I really enjoyed the first few songs. Some were a little too country/folk like for me, however I enjoyed the album as a whole. 3/5
Its slow, just your average album. 3/5
Not their strongest album, but pretty solid all the way through. While not an album I'd say to give anyone to introduce them to the Doors or the greatest of Jim Morrison, likely a wonderful album for those already fans of the Doors.
Pretty good, has that influenced by the beetles sound. 3.5/10
Roadhouse blues- an all time rock classic Waiting for the sun- alright song, repetitive but not doesn't overstay too long You make me real- not very note worthy Peace frog- great vocals and another doors classic Blue Sunday- slower, more mellow song compared the previous songs but not much to say about it Ship of fools- upbeat song about humanities problems and downfall? Land ho- narrative song? Good beat and great vocals, song doesn't overstay it's welcome The spy- song drags on and didn't keep my attention Queen of the highway- good song, fantastic use of keys and guitar sounds great in second half Indian summer- quiet, soft and slow, wonderful build up Maggie m'gill- funky rhythm, strong bass line. Feels like it might be a good driving song.
liked two songs
I want to love the Doors. I have wanted to love them for 40 years. Ray Manzarek and Robbie Krueger blend their sounds together beautifully and create a sound unique to that pairing. Jim Morrison is clearly capable of brilliance. And without a doubt he has one of THE great voices for rock and roll. I also applaud the effort to merge seemingly disparate influences into a sound wholly their own. But, for me, it just too often becomes silly. Hallucinogens can be great catalysts to the imagination, but art requires a lot of sober editing; tearing down and rebuilding. To my ears, it sounds like Jim Morrison NEVER edited. We're left with some really interesting craft work. Finally, while their brand of electric blues can be engaging, one listen to Howlin' Wolf or J.B. Hutto & the Hawks pretty quickly reveals that what these beach boys produce is a pale and too-often silly imitation.
Loved the first half, second half felt a bit repetitive maybe, certainly an album with a unique sound but doesn't diverse much
I always love hearing Morrison's voice. Not my personal favorite by The Doors, but still good.
IDK why but listening to the doors always makes me want to take a nap
The instramentation and chord structures were very interesting. I liked the diversity of styles. However, the lyrics were pedantic at best and non-sensical at worst.
The Doors sound is distinctive but nothing else on Morrison Hotel stands out.
The Doors. This was to be what I expected, which is to say fine.
This was a decent romp through a bunch of Doors songs I mostly don't think I've heard before - so points for being all the good bits of the doors and not the bad cringy bits. Drifted in and out of it. Decent.
I generally like The Doors. This album has some great tracks, and I think it's good exposure. But were The Doors all that important in the history of rock music? I'm not so sure, there was a lot of cultural notoriety that came from Jim Morrison's personality (and shitty behaviour). Probably decent to include at least one Doors album on this list, but I'm not sure if this is the one I would pick.
"Roadhouse Blues" is a great song. The other songs are okay, but not as good.
I put several of their other albums ahead of this one.
Pretty cool
A couple bangers but most of the songs are kind of noodly.
meh
I kinda just wanted it to end by the back half of the album. But still a good time.
Really like roadhouse blues, there are parts of other songs I like, like the bridge in peace frog. But it’s not really the sound I know the doors for, it’s a little too bluesy for my tastes, but it is enjoyable.
Waiting For The Sun // Blue Sunday // Maggie M’Gill 3/5
Note quite what I expected from The Doors. I don't love the blues tracks, but the combination with psychedelic rock is fun.
Started off a 4 but ended up more of a 3.5
I subscribe to the view that The Doors were/are massively overrated whilst still comfortably enjoying this album as being a decent set of songs and a decent sound. I'll just not over rate it.
Ish.
Decent
Alright. Rating it three because the hits are good but the rest I can happily leave.
3,5
I’ve never really got into a Doors album other than their debut. This one had some great stuff on it (Waiting for the Sun and Peace Frog both fantastic) but a lot of quite boring ineffectual blues as well
