Reviews (page 13 of 13)

Always found The Doors incredibly hit-n-miss. A few era-defining masterpieces, and a lot of wasted tape... Didn't care much for this one.

I woke up this morning and had myself a beer. Ooh edgy. The pretence. A group that would send Holden Caulfield into conniptions. If you’re 16 this probably appeals. But you possibly should grow out of it. Krieger plays guitar well. Densmore is a decent drummer. I can live without the organ. And the angst from a privileged moderately talented nobody. Ugh. Roy Buchanan on bass (just to shut up those who say ‘there’s no bass man’. Go and listen to b b king ‘live at the regal’ for ‘no bass and an organ’. Morrison is a poet in the way every sensitive year 9 boy is a poet - the world just doesn’t understand me. Sigh.

De har gjort så många bra låtar. Tyvärr ligger de inte på det här albumet.

rock alternativo ok, nada demais o álbum.

Ouderwetse rockmuziek. Klinkt prima, maar is soms ook iets teveel gepingel. **

About half way through listening to this album Spotify switched me to a Jimmy Hendrix song without me realizing it. I immediately got excited that the album started doing something different until Jimmy started to sing and I realized what happened. Seems like an appropriate experience for this album, you'll wish it was something different and more interesting. I guess Roadhouse Blues is a classic though.

Jim Morrison: patron saint for deep thinkers whose big ideas start and end at weed legalization.

Meh... typical doors. Only the hits are needed here.

I bought a Morrison Hotel shirt in my freshman year of high school because I knew the doors were cool. I liked some of the hits and LOVED Peace Frogs but the more I heard them, the more I hated it. I am now older and wiser and confidently say that the Doors suck shit. Lackluster jams littered with boring blues riffs and obnoxious honky rink piano. The band will find interesting sonic corners and then totally blow them within seconds. I wanted to give this album the benefit of the doubt but damn this dropped the same year as Loaded by Velvet Underground and Fun House by the Stooges? Whatever ‘far out’ aspirations the doors had has already run out by this album and it’s all down hill from here. B cut Banger: lol nah

seems like they didn’t have anything written and then just f#@ked around on some very simple ideas until it was long enough to release

Decent, all sounds the same

I think it's time to acknowledge that the Doors, except for the obvious hits, are not for me. There is nothing on this album - especially not Roadhouse Blues - that I find even remotely interesting. It's all that 60s/70s sound without anything really standing out. 2/5

Old and boring. Not terrible, just not good

Good music, but there's better and more iconic stuff out there from The Doors, which is already found on this list. A better psychedelic option from the same year that should REALLY be on this list is the self-titled album from Exuma, an enigmatic artist from the Bahamas, combining some wild elements from junkanoo, calypso, blues, rock, New Orleans jazz and more into a wonderful and exciting cacophony of trippiness and mystique. Won't be crashing at the Morrison again, unless out of necessity. 2 pillow mints out of 5

Blech. At least they tone down the organ.

I had a bit of a heavy heart when I saw a record by The Doors, but - OPEN MIND! Sadly I was right. This is not for me, don't like the sound and there are no songs good enough to transcend that. Best of a dull bunch is Blue Sunday.

The doors might be the most overrated band ever. Blah. 1.5/5

so overrated

Recognized some songs. Never got into the doors. I’m not sure whyZ great rhythm. Fun songs. Maybe it’s Morrisons vocals. I don’t know. I dig the organ in a lot of songs.

nothing special tbh

Aside from “Waiting for the Sun,” this album is at best dull and at worst the musical equivalent of watching a philosophy major’s film project. I’m fairly certain it, and a dozen uninspiring albums like it, only get love because they came out in or around 1970.

Not bad

To be honest, I didn’t hear anything on this album that knocked my socks off and made me realize I’ve been missing out on The Doors all my life. The album isn’t the worst though and it could make for good filler sound for any generic early 70s soundtrack. I wish I liked this more, since it seems that Jim Morrison and The Doors are iconic “must listens”. I just didn’t get that with this offering.

The band and backing music is excellent but the vocals just feel wrong. Probably not helped by the fact he's a massive wanker

Not interesting, sounds like the generic dinner music in any movie

Wäre nur "The Doors“ in dieser Liste, wäre die Welt in Ordnung. Mit jedem zusätzlichen Album kommt der Lack beim Gesamteindruck ihres Werkes ein bisschen mehr herunter. Schade.

The weakest of the three Doors albums on this list. Not awful, but not all that interesting. Just standard, really. Perhaps a symptom of being overly prolific? (they released 8 albums between 1967 and 1972). This record preceded their strongest album (LA Woman) by only 14 months. Rating: 2.5/5 Playlist track: Roadhouse Blues Date listened: 27/07/22

Never been a Doors fan, and this doesn't change that tbh.

My friend Dave got me into The Doors when I was about 17. My dad always hated them, so by proxy, I hated them too. Jim Morrison’s psychedelic poetry I still find annoying. Like he is just trying too hard to be weird, but it was 1970, so no one was really weird yet. Ray Manzarek is awesome. Morrison Hotel is my least favorite of the Doors albums, but none of them are really that wonderful to my ear. Strange Days maybe. When I was a kid, I really liked American Prayer, but I listen to it now and it just sounds like a Jim Morrison ego / acid trip. There are a few catchy tracks on Morrison Hotel, Peace Frog as an example. But it is less about the lyrics and more about the music behind it, which on this track is particularly good. Roadhouse Blues is a great track. Everything else feels like a Doors answer to Pet Sounds. I’m not really sure what they were going for on this one. In fairness, this was the height of Jim Morrisons drug / alcohol abuse. He would die a year later.

Better than expected. Liked peace frog

The Doors are just kinda goofy.

Meh. Jim Morrison is a garbage can.

I listened to it but have no recollection of doing so.

This album is kind of mopey and made me sleepy.

Am I supposed to like this?

I listened to a few songs and scanned through the rest. I decided that I prefer my doors on oldies radio in my mom's baby blue honda civic. I'd have to be 18 again to think this 'Lizard King' thing is sexy again.

I know that, for a lot of people, The Doors represent something very important. I wish they could explain that to me someday.

The Doors? Jim Morrison? He's a drunken buffoon posing as a poet. - Lester Bangs, Almost Famous

Thought I was gonna like this one because I like a lot of The Doors songs, but this was just very underwhelming. Disappointing.

Like most Doors music, I put this album on and kinda forgot it was playing. Idk, it's the doors doing what the doors do. Nothing too offensive, nothing too interesting. Palatable. Just kinda there. If I were around when they were really doing their thing, maybe I'd have a different take on it, but here we are.

Boring.

“Morrison's gliding vocal presence –arty and self-absorbed though it may be – provides focus.”

2.5 / 5 Good, but nothing anything special, Peace Frog is a banger tho.

This was like the other Doors album in that the first song made me think I would like it and then the others proved me wrong

i just hate the doors. always have, probably always will. i feel like i should like them, but i don't. i'm sure this album is just fine if you like jim morrison's whining.

Meh, ni lo he terminado la verdad

There are albums that stand the test of time and sound as good now as when they were first released. This is not one of them.

Again with The Doors. They're still not my bag in general. And because today is the way that it is, I'm only giving this album 2 stars.

There's gonna be 4 albums by the Doors on this list...

Oo, I really don't know The Doors well and have always felt I should. This album is what many people (my dad) would class as "Proper Music" - something I probably don't appreciate enough. Right from the off, Roadhouse Blues sounds like so much fun to play, but I wasn't hugely taken by the rest, tbh. Not so keen when it gets more stoner vibes. Fav new song: Roadhouse Blues

The Doors : not my bag

I really struggled to get through this album, the only thing that excited or interested me was the sign showing that rooms at this hotel were $2.50, which is mind boggling! But for the music, I was totally dis-engaged and it did not resonate with me at all.

An interesting mix of bluesier influences and proto-rock but not enough for an engaging listen

Eh. Still not a fan of The Doors, but it's fine for what it is, I guess. That background faux-organ music grates on me though.

This really sucks. It has none of the menace or intensity of, say, LA Woman; nor, I would aver, much of the poetry. The rinky-dink music exposes the Doors' failings as a blooz band, and unfortunately when they step away from that template it's to play tiresome Korla Pandit organ. Screw this.

if i never listen to the doors again it will be too soon.

хороший альбом но на половине скипнул и включил райдерс он зе сторм 2 часа по кругу рок из 10

How come he sounds fat? Maybe because I liked the Doors when I was a teenager, they sound childish..?

Fairly boring and forgettable. Only saved a bit by a few songs in the middle

I don't remember them at all?

It was a bit of grind getting through this album, but every so often there was a part of a song that was quite good.

The older I get the less I like the doors. Just silly really. The keyboard annoys me too

Track one - Roadhouse Blues was great, loved the combination of the blues with the Doors sound. Track four - Peace Frog good into guitar rift someone mentioned Nirvana and you can hear a connection. The rest was forgettable.

boomerslop for men who beat their wives

Sorry. The Doors just give me the ick. I don’t know why.

I hate the Doors. I hate the Doors so much.

emanates a racist aura

The Doors — and Jim Morrison in particular — have always been one of the bands for which I just didn't get the hype. I don't hate them, I just don't see why they get so much love. I like "Roadhouse Blues," and it occurs to me on repeated listening that what grabs me is the _piano_, which of course is not Ray Manzarek's usual instrument.

favs: waiting for the sun you make me real the spy rating 1.4/5

Never been a Doors fan and after listening anew I'm still not. I think the soundtrack in hell is Jim Morrison singing "I woke up this morning and had myself a beer" over and over

Its interesting might get me and the gm to listen

An album that first baffles with its astonishing overratedness before transitioning into continuous boringness, ultimately leading the listener into a state of sleepy indifference. I look forward to the day when all fans of The Doors have passed from the earth and we no longer have anyone left to advocate for this band’s inclusion on lists like this.

I always said I didn’t like the doors, however I never really took the time to listen to them, but I never let my position of ignorance stop my ability to criticise something. Turns out I was right, largely boring, I think if Jim Morrison didn’t die the people wouldn’t hold The Doors in such high regard. Maybe in the context of the history of music around the time they made more sense, but this album was pretty lack luster tbh, I can hear where Geese pull some of their music from (derogatory). “Woke up this morning and got myself a beer” is a banger of a line though so good for them. Also listening to this album reminded me of the Skrillex/ Doors collab song, which is hilarious.

I hate the doors. his voice is so slurry and just no.

I debated whether I should give this 1 or 2 stars and decided on 1 because while I get some of the musicianship might be good, I never want to listen to it again.

Skipped the first track after 1 min because hate the blues Literal peace frog? Like the t-shirt? The thing I've heard is that Chris Cornell and a bunch of other '90s men kind of wanted to be Jim Morrison but I like them better than him. I like the grateful dead ship of fools. Why does this album sound like a circus? Like it gives distinctly haunted carnival to me.

Terrible

The Doors are absolutly overrated ¬¬

didn't care for this album although both blue sunday and indian summer we good, exceptional even

Just when I thought the Doors couldn;t get any more annoying, I get subjected to this horrible album.

Tough listen

You know...I don't even remember completing it....but I did...not memorable.

only liked one song

Couldn't get through the album as I found it really dull. Felt very flat. Not for me!

the old country vibe just wasn't for me

2/10 The USA only had two good bands in the 60’s and 70’s (Beach Boys, CCR), so they latched onto any old shit (The Doors).

At this time, the Doors have an identifiable style. This is a Doors album with nothing uniquely worth revisiting.

I don't like it at all. Not my type of music and none of it did appeal to me

Sounds like a really bad bar band, the organ lowers it even more, adding a bit of MOR lounge, and that’s without mentioning the singer.

Ugh just no, never going to happen

Not as amazing as I expected. Started off with a hit song but then I got tired of his voice. Can’t be considered the best album.

Brekeke 1.1

My god. I thought I would like the Doors, but no? His vocals become grating after a while, the lyrics are horrible, and the music is so dull?

The first couple of songs are great, but after that it's just variations of tired old blues riffs with some psychedelic flair added. I'd argue that only two Doors albums were needed in this book, the debut and LA Woman.

Would not listen to the album again.

I do NOT like this band. I did not have a good time listening to this. I'm sorry.

pretty naff

Wasn't a Doors fan before this album and am not a Doors fan after

Blues.,

I need to be in the right mood to tolerate The Doors. Today was not that day.

On first listen I grew bored. Second listen I actively disliked it. I’m assuming given the band’s reputation that there is much better to come.

didnt listen

Never been a fan of The Doors

Yaaaaawwwwnnnnn. Getting through this was a chore. Please do not make me listen to this creep any more mm

Nope not for me. Not at all

Kuulostaa ihan liian old schoolilta itselle, ei uppoa ollenkaan

I haven't heard much (any?) of this album before, which confirms it's not overfamiliarity that causes me to not like the Doors

Two Doors records in the span of five days. I know this whole thing is random. But I just... God dammit the doors suck so hard. Fuck me. I'm going to have to really prep to listen to this shit. Me five hours later: yeah, it's shit.

Not a big fan of the Doors and this album is my least favorite of their work. The lyrics are ludicrous,Jim Morrison was not some guru genius poet and as a singer he is far better singing softer, more psychedelic songs than the horrible attempt at blues singing he does on most of this Boring, uninspired and uninspiring

Struggling to make it through this steaming pile of subpar bar rock coupled with puerile, self-indulgent 'poetry' ripped from some teenager's journal. Oh, and Peace Frog.

It's not for me, kinda old and country sounding.

The only redeeming quality of this album is its brevity.

Good band out of the 60’s/70’s. Not their best album. Good songs.

The Doors really are over-rated crap aren’t they.

I don’t like this trucker genre of music.

I hate the Doors. Jim Morrison was a horrible vocalist.

Morrison Hotel perfectly encapsulates why I hate The Fucking Doors. ZERO STARS

Drunk jerk off that thinks he's some deep poet but is just a douche

Really? One Doors album was plenty, thank you very much. Roadhouse blues is fun though.

70’s don’t care

Something about the doors urchs me

Slightly more listenable than the other doors album I got this week. Maybe it’s actually a blessing to get their shit out of way this early in the project.

I just don't like the Doors. 1/5

First I loved the Doors now I cannot listen to them at all

I knew going in that I didn't like the doors. Some of these lyrics were kind of disturbing. Just not for me.

Jim Morrison gets on my fucking nerves

Tried to listen, but it said this item wasn’t available to listen to in the United States on apple

Do not like the Doors

can't even listen to it in my country

The doors suck

There are a handful of bands who's creation can be linked directly to the US gov. The Doors are one. And it makes sense because they fucking suck ass.

Me gustan algunas canciones de The Doors, pero ninguna está en este disco.

The Doors are basically the Stones, if the Stones were a bunch of predatory jocks. Douchebag music.

Two doors albums in a row. Yucko

Not my cup of tea. Sound kinda grows on you as you listen tho. Favorite track is Indian Summer.

I hate the doors

The doors honestly kind of suck and this album it just sounds like they are doing a half ass rendition of blues music and it pretty much is not worth a listen

This band is so overrated and annoying. This is even worse than L.A. Woman. I couldn't wait for it to end. I hope that there are no more Doors albums on this list but I'm willing to bet that my Morrison induced Suffering isn't over yet.

Not feeling this blues rock. really not feeling it. The whole album feels like its not interested in making a statement sonically. Ship of Fools and Land Ho! are the lamest Doors songs. Its lazy southern blues rock. Dear lord get me out of this album.

I’ll consider this his practice work! He sounds good but I enjoy his later work a lot more
