Reviews (page 3 of 15)

YES! Not sure if 1001albumsgenerator is aware of news, but this came up the day after Ozzy Osbourne passed away.

RIP to the GOAT, you made my life infinitely better in ways you will never know

❤️💔❤️💔

Perfect performance. Perfect production. Iommi sounds huge. Bass and drums are right there. Supernaut is a classic right away. One of the all time greats.

Simplemente hermoso

R.I.P. Ozzy!!! This is my favorite Sabbath record it has some killer artwork as well. Obviously I’m a little biased given the circumstances but this record would’ve gotten a five even if I was going through this website in the 90’s. A killer record that’s weakest point is a one minute interlude that only takes away a bit of the atmosphere. 5/5 one of the best records given to me so far and god bless Ozzy Osbourne!

Black Sabbath: Vol. 4: Yeah this is amazing. The riffs and the vocals are absolutely insane. There is a reason this band was as influential as it was. Everything is exquisite, every song(except fx) is a masterpiece. Fx is a waste of space and does drag the album down slightly, and I do think that they have some better albums, but this album is just a monster regardless. All the instrumentals and Ozzy are just absolutely peak musicianship and the songs are a blast. 9.5/10

Great album, there's something much going on here and it's had an impact on multiple metal sub-genres over the last 50 years and the sounds and ideas that Black Sabbath made popular have informed so much popular music since this album was released that their influence must be up there with the Beatles & the Velvet Underground.

One of the 6 Sabbath classics, loaded with the sickest and darkest riffs imagineable and shows the band taking a more progressive approach. Wheels Of Confusion, Supernaut and Snowblind are among their very best, Changes is beautiful, Cornucopia has one of the heaviest riffs ever made, just a brilliant, brilliant album.

The timing that this was the choice for the me the day after Ozzy died… but this is a hell of an album. RIP OZZY

I wonder if this was coincidence that just now an album of Black Sabbath was generated so shortly after Ozzy Osbourne passed away. His so well known voice is always a pleasure to listen to.

Another lp that is already in my collection. Brilliant album!

greatest album ever written

RIP Ozzy Osbourne

Best Song: Snowblind RIP Ozzy. There is no such thing as a bad Black Sabbath album and this one is no exception. 5/5!

RIP Ozzy

RIP Ozzy. Love this album.

In light of recent events I cannot give this album less than 5 stars. Even if recent events hadn't happened, I'd still give it 5 stars. Truly epic.

Álbum magnífico! Bela homenagem ao grande Ozzy. RIP. QoA Vesper.

Coked-out riffs in a muddy mix. The production’s a mess but the music is wild, ambitious and brilliant.

Classic

It took me too long to really listen to Black Sabbath even though I've liked Ozzy's solo work for a while. A whole lotta cocaine can make a great album, I guess. It's not quite as good as Paranoid, but very close. RIP Ozzy

It might their best but it's still not my favorite. But we're talking about a 9/10 vs a 10/10 so still 5 stars for me.

Absolute masterpiece. I didn't realize that Changes was a Sabbath song until after I had heard the Big Mouth version. Ozzy performs it beautifully. Snowblind is a classic, and Supernaut is a banger. FX is also a beautiful interlude. Great album!

I knew I would get a Sabbath album today. RIP Ozzy. The first time I heard this album, I loved it. It’s has got a gorgeous thick sound, and dark intensity. I love the sludgey riffs and the stoner groove. I even love Ozzy’s whispered “cocaine” in Snowblind, like he thinks no one noticed. This is cocaine rock at its most sublime, and metal at its most beautiful and its most heavy. The album is a monolith and a force.

Loved this album

Man, it got to a point where I thought we’d never see Ozzy go. The man was a goddamn legend who created consistently some of the greatest heavy metal of all time By 1972 Ozzy and Black Sabbath were already world famous, their world shattering metal creating debut album was a big hit especially for a first time band in a brand new genre solidified in sound by them. Their follow up and major breakthrough “Paranoid” would release later that same year and contain several very well known songs including the hits “Iron Man”, the title track and “War Pigs” which despite not being a single remains very popular. The album remains the groups most commercially successful and well known. Their follow-up, 1971’s Master Of Reality (travesty it’s not included on this list) saw the group hitting the peak of their occultist, apocalyptic vision of music in yet another massively successful and amazing album. So by the time 1972 rolled around the band were looking for something else, trying to change their sound, and began leaning towards more experimental sounds in their fourth album. Vol. 4 is my second favorite Sabbath record, the only one I’ll say I like more is “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” (another travesty that it isn’t included). This album I remember not caring for as much as their first three on first listen ages ago but upon relisten soon after it quickly became one of my favorites. That remains true on my most recent listen the opener is one of the single best heavy metal openers of all time. “Changes” is a change (heh nice) in sound for a ballad and sounds amazing. “Supernaut” and “Snowblind” are some of my favorites Sabbath songs. I love “Cornucopia”, “St Vitus Dance” and “Under The Sun”. Sabbath were also historically really good at instrumentals and “Laguna Sunrise” does not break that trend. This is one of the easiest 5/5’s I’ve ever given, Ozzy Osbourne was so awesome man, like his first six records with Sabbath are so good and his solo career is also excellent. He also stood up for marginalized communities consistently and donated to great causes including at his final Sabbath gig just a few weeks ago. One of the greats here, Ozzy will never be forgotten, as a pioneer, excellent singer, and musician. Rest In Peace Ozzy: The Prince Of Darkness \m/

Yeoooooo So much better than Coldplay

I guess everyone got this or something Ozzy related today.

The almighty Black Sabbath and what I think is their best album (that’s saying A LOT!).

RIP. Maar boy was I wrong. Ben nu een bij het 2e nummer en IK GENIET. De zang is top, maar de gitaren GAAN LOS. En ze gaan los in de goede zin van het woord, wat een heerlijke solo's. Geen verkrachtingen, gewoon pure nostalgie. Changes is plots heel anders. 5 reten

The Ozzy rules!

Love it, ever since. Great riffs, also beautiful acoustic guitar pieces.

Black Sabbath’s cocaine album. This time marks one of the more entertaining chapters in their history. I’m in the camp the first six Black Sabbath albums represents one of the best runs of any band period. Vol 4 is the most dynamic from this era. It has heavy riffs, hard rock blues motifs, jazz-timing, psychedelic sounds, a piano ballad, and an acoustic track. From this standpoint it’s the most accessible sabbath album. RIP Ozzy Osbourne

Hell Ya Black Sabbath

5 stars in honor of Ozzy, who just passed away, July 2025

This album shreds Cranked it loud to recognize the passing of Ozzy Lots of different influences and sounds made this a fitting tribute to one of the greats

One of my favourite Sabbath albums and a day after Ozzy died. What a life

Maybe not fair to review a Sabbath album the day after Ozzys death. R.I.P Ozzy! 😢

The day after Ozzy dies, this is either 1) everyone got this due to an algorithm 2) A huge coincidence 3) Divine intervention Five stars awesome album

Generally, I am not a fan of metal. Right now, it is my lowest rated genre through this generator. But this album is great. It’s heavy and gritty, Ozzy’s vocals are awesome (rest in peace) and the production is great. I was so surprised by how soft this album could be as well. Changes was a beautiful song and Laguna Sunrise as well.

Supernaut

The next morning after Ozzy died I got this album... Legend

Changes was just...wow

Rest in peace, Ozzy. I've been holding off on this review for a while. This particular album was not among my very favorite Black Sabbath records. Still, I have come to rediscover and appreciate Changes and Supernaut in particular, but really this whole album over the last week while celebrating the life of Ozzy and reminiscing about his legacy, with countless bands honoring him during their performances around the world and across a multitude of genres. In the words of Tobias Forge: For being the Prince of Darkness, he sure gave us a lot of light.

The 4th album in which might be the best 5 album run ever (arguably it could be 8 but in my opinion it drops off a bit from post sabbath bloody sabbath), originally this wasn’t going to be a 5 but after another listen this album is quite flawless, it has such a good intro song with a great instrumental section towards the end (one of the longer sabbath songs), changes (an out of place yet totally fitting soft piano song), fx which I have no idea how that came about and probably could be considered a bit filler but it is a really cool instrumental in my opinion, Laguina sunrise (maybe my least favourite of the acoustic Iommi songs but still amazing) and under the sun acts as a great closer with a doom like riff similar to how master of reality closes with into the void. Of course all the ones I haven’t mentioned follow a more familiar sabbath formula, all of which may have my favourite Tony Iommi riffs second only to master of reality and maybe paranoid. Vol.4 out of the sabbath discography for me falls around 3rd in my favourites, although is interchangeable with anything below master of reality and paranoid depending on how I feel to be honest. I also think the sound quality of this and production marks a bit of a change from the previous three which is carried on for the following albums, probably due to Iommis role in this aspect. Finally, of course R.I.P to the legend Ozzy Osbourne 💜, none of this, including this album could be done without you.I appreciate how this generator takes into account things like this and gives a suitable album for it. Overall, 9.5/10.

rip ozzy

RIP Ozzy Osbourne. Personally, I think Master of Reality is a much more essential album than this one, but you can't go wrong with any of the first 6 Sabbath albums. (and the Dio era stuff, too)

I got this album the day after Ozzy's passing. It's still kind of surreal, I thought he was pretty much immortal at this point. RIP Ozzy, a true legend. About this record though. The first 6 Sabbath records are 5 star albums. They will forever be. These are the albums that shaped metal and they are packed with insanely good compositions. The bass sounds immense, the guitar riffs are thunderous, the drums are just heavy hitting and the voice is the absolute right fit for all the songs. They are just perfect as a band.

I've been listening to this album for 45 years and I still hear new things in it. Along with Sabbath Bloody Sabbath it is probably less immediate than the other four in that incredible initial six album run but it has layers to unpick and tempo changes to catch you off guard.

First listen to a fantastic album

Nothing but love for this album. I find it quite comforting that this is the album I am presented with the day after Ozzie continued on his travel across the universe. Supernaut. I cannot explain in words how important this song is. The last verse is so timeless. Thank you for the chance to experience this moment.

Rest in power, Ozzy 🤘

R.I.P king you will remain in our hearts forever.

Hell yeah. Classic heavy metal. I love Joe diverse Sabbath is. So many sub genres of metal can trace their roots back to them in a way.

Getting this the day after Ozzy died hit me right in the feels. Slightly below Master of reality in my Sabbath Rushmore, but still easily gets a 5.

Incredible.

I’m biased. First 5 sabbath albums are all 5/5 to me. Vol 4 is mixed poorly but it doesn’t matter, epic cocaine rock

Banger, no notes

no question this is a fuckin' FIVE all the way. Snowblind, Supernaut, Wheels of Confusion.. man if you crank the last few minutes of Wheels of Confusion you are in the zone. In. The. Zone.

Metal AF. Rip Ozzie. Fave Song: Changes Honorable Mentions: Wheels of Confusion, Supernaut, Snowblind, Under the Sun

There’s not much that needs to be said about this record it’s top tier. It’s your favorite metal bands favorite band. As it should be. RIP Ozzy.

Obviously

What an amazing album. Rest easy.

how did I miss this one lmao RIP

Chop Changes and FX out and it’s perfect. Still perfect though.

ya escuche este album hace un tiempo. me alegro de haberlo escuchado otra vez

Obviously timely, but I like it. Changes is one of the more prominent tracks, along with Snowblind.

Just a thoroughly enjoyable album. It mixes up the pace quite a bit, and I love the instrumental, Laguna Sunrise. I felt like it allowed Ozzy to take a break and it feels like a fitting time to play it right now. Under the Sun is the most fitting song to listen to at this time and I sure hope he felt like he lived his life like he wanted to. I love those lyrics when I first heard them and I love them today still. Ozzy and Jeff Keith are my two favorite metal vocalists and I’ll listen to both for years to come. RIP Ozzy! Thanks for rocking so hard.

Man what an album, this thing hits heavy and could honestly be my favourite sabbath record. There’s so much depth and variety to the tracks, often changing and developing into completely different songs as they play. And Changes is such a beautiful song. RIP Ozzy, thanks for the music 🖤💜 Fav Tracks - All

Classic

I always thought I liked Sabbath but have never taken the time to really appreciate them. I know people say they are often credited with being one of the first heavy metal bands, I'm sure they have had massive influences on the genre but to me they aren't metal. They are good old rock and roll played SO HARD and it absolutely rocks. One of the only bands that can wear guyliner and sing about the devil and it comes off as completely authentic without a bit of cheese. While it might not be artistically as elite as other 5 stars, I feel like this album is perfect for what it is.

The first five Black Sabbath albums are easy 5-star albums. Even though Vol. 4 probably ranks 5th on my Top 5 Sabbath albums ... the bangers on this album are heavy bangers. The heaviest Sabbath album by far, Cornucopia is really where all your heavy and doom came from. No way I could rate this album with four stars. RIP Ozzy (1948-2025)

Favourite tracks - Changes, Supernaut, Snowblind

Am playing catch up and following Ozzy's sad death I thought to tackle all 3 of the Sabbath albums on my to listen list. Had not really listened to much Sabbath before and had previously found Ozzy to be a bit of a clown. Was therefore really surprised how much I enjoyed each of the three albums (Black Sabbath, Paranoid & Vol4) - the rhythm section in particular is really tight with some great hooks and riffs. Dug a little deeper and was fascinated about Ionni's missing digits and how he had to adapt his playing style and how this influenced his way of playing. Fascinating to see how influential these albums were in establishing metal and all its various sub genres. I do not particularly like heavy metal but I do really like Black Sabbath - so will score all albums a 5 - with Paranoid being the stand out.

I thought this a really interesting take on their menace-laden heavy rock that's so effectively done on previous albums. 'Cornucopia' and 'Under the Sun' bring the doom, a link back to the eponymous first album. But there are different angles here, with some pastoral touches ('Laguna Sunrise') that mirror some of what Led Zeppelin was doing. There's the batshit bonkers and frankly superfluous ('FX', which I think by their own admission was a joke, or so they say now anyway). There's balladry - the excellent 'Changes', which really is very heartfelt. And amongst it there's the.ability to continually crank out great riffs, like the sensational 'Wheels of Confusion' and 'Supernaut'. It's easy to see why Sabbath are held in the highest esteem with metalheads - surely the blueprint for heavy melodic rock everywhere.

Y'know, I say this with no disrespect to this album, or to imply that I think it's bad, but... Why is VOL. 4 here? Before re-listening to this album, that was the question I had to ask myself, 'coz, like... If you were to tell me there were three Black Sabbath albums on this list, I would've been able to correctly call the first two (their debut and PARANOID), but as for the third... I honestly would've assumed it was MASTER OF REALITY? Let me explain quickly. BLACK SABBATH, that's obvious: it's the long accepted birth of metal. It's the first album where you couldn't call it heavy psych or blues or hard rock or anything else — it's just metal. Meanwhile, PARANOID would take the foundation their debut laid down and set the standard, with classic song after classic song. Seriously, side one alone of that album is **stacked**, with "War Pigs", the title track and "Iron Man", all stone cold iconic. It would only seem natural to me, then, that MASTER OF REALITY would come next. On top of further refinement to their sound (as if they needed any), it was the first album where they downtuned their guitars, an important move for many different subgenres of metal. Plus, "Children Of The Grave" is an all-timer, so... But, no. Instead, we jump straight to their fourth album, VOL. 4. And once more, I meant no disrespect to it whatsoever in my pre-listen question; it **is** still a part of their first six albums, which I've always figured was their best run. Frankly, honestly, it's just that it hasn't had the same run of being called "ICONIC" in critical circles that the other three have had. That might sound like a dumb reason to you, I'unno, but it **was** honestly the reason for my question, so... Well, now that I've given this album another listen and dug into it a bit further, I think I understand why VOL. 4 is here. Take it: if BLACK SABBATH was the birth of metal, PARANOID was the solidification, and MASTER OF REALITY was the further refinement, then VOL. 4 was the expansion. VOL. 4 sees Black Sabbath reaching past metal to experiment more than they had on any previous record and incorporate whole new sounds. Just check out the soul-inspired breakdown on "Supernaut": nothing else they'd done to that point sounded like that. There's an orchestra that shows up in the last minute of the cocaine ode "Snowblind" — and orchestra! I love that kind of stuff! And they later appear on the song "Laguna Sunrise", which is this wonderful little neo-classical instrumental. If anything they've ever done sounded like a sunrise... And on the note of "Laguna Beach", this is probably where I should also point out the biggest deviation from the band's usual sound. Everything else, even with the expansion and experimentation, is still firmly rooted in the classic heavy metal tradition. But then there's "Changes". Essentially, it's this album's version of "Planet Caravan" or "Solitude" (y'know, the break between heavier songs, as a change of pace), though with a big difference. Where "Planet Caravan" and "Solitude" lean more into relaxing psychedelia and space rock, "Changes" is straight up tender. It's a piano song! Heck, a **ballad**! You could play it on soft rock stations and no one would guess besides Ozzy singing it. And it's an amazing song, so, y'know, all the credit in the world to Ozzy, Toni and Geezer. And, hey, if you want some classic, untainted metal from Sabbath, that's still here, too. "Wheels Of Tomorrow" is a crazy, heavy track, and a hell of an opener. "Cornucopia" does the job, and I mean that in the best way... And "St. Vitus Dance" has this little Led Zeppelin bounce thing going on, so that's neat. Like, for real, I'd say pretty much all of it works. The only thing I'm not super big on is "FX", which is a goof track anyway... But, yeah, I can totally see why this is here over MASTER OF REALITY. MASTER OF REALITY may be more "traditional" heavy metal, this list already has PARANOID for that. VOL. 4, although not as iconic as MASTER OF REALITY, still has all the heavy as hell riffs, crashing drums and classic Ozzy vocals you'd expect from a Black Sabbath album. The heaviness is here, just paired with some new tricks and sounds that keep things interesting. And on a list like this... I suppose that's ultimately more worthwhile than just another strong album. Still, regardless, none of the first six Black Sabbath albums are to be missed. Like I said, it's the singlest strongest and longest run they'd ever have in their long, long career. And while I wouldn't say this listen through has convinced me to put VOL. 4 over PARANOID and MASTER OF REALITY (maybe their debut), I can say for certain now that it's absolutely not one to miss. [ RIP Ozzy Osbourne ] (1948 — 2015)

RIP Ozzy. Solid 5 Stars.

I’m at a 5. Arguably a 10, but I think that might be the events of the day skewing me just a little bit. Eh, fuck it, I’m at a 10. Ozzy deserves it. I’ve been sitting here for like… 5 minutes in silence, just letting that album soak in. Stellar stuff, across the board. No words I could type can do the music justice; if you somehow haven’t heard it, just go listen. It’s a perfect blend of what would become heavy metal throughout the decade with little tinges of jazz & piano throughout, including a beautiful instrumental in “Laguna Sunrise”. Quick shoutout to “Changes” for giving me a “this is THAT song” moment. It’s not the same thing as their self-titled was, but it’s just as good. If nothing else, when this fucking rips on the guitar & drums, I felt just as in sync as I did listening to that debut. That’s a feeling that’s unmatched at its very best. In all, it’s 45 minutes of some of the tightest 70s rock / metal I’ve ever heard, with great lyrics & vocals to boot. If “Paranoid” is even better (and I’m pretty sure it’s got a shot, given that tracklist), then I can’t fucking wait to get there. I will say, I knew the randomizer would give us something related to Ozzy, similar to how we got “Pet Sounds” after Brian Wilson’s death. Going into this, I wasn’t really thinking “Why THIS album in particular?”, but after listening to it, I think I can answer that, even if it didn’t pop into my mind beforehand. This is an album where Ozzy Osbourne quite literally admits he’d rather live life in a way where he can reach his highest creative potentials than give up the sources of that creativity, no matter how much it might be killing him. That’s the entire point of “Snowblind”. Most of this album revolves around that general central idea of living life in that way, and I can think of no better painted picture of Ozzy Osbourne. It’s not glamorous, not by any means, but I’ll be damned if it’s not inspiring, in its own weird way. By all accounts, the man should’ve been dead long before July 22nd, 2025, but… he lived. He lived one of the most full lives you could possibly imagine. He believed in himself. He didn’t have to pretend. He didn’t let the empty people try and interfere with his mind. He lived his life. And now, he’s left us all behind. It’s a 10. Let the Prince of Darkness rest in whatever paradise he ended up in.

could i write poetry to this? y

The fact that we got this album on the day that Ozzy died is either a tragic coincidence or a tribute to his mastery of the Dark Arts. Either way, it's impossible to be objective during this period of mourning. Five stars. But can we just appreciate for a moment that Ozzy pretty much invented the "Metal Ballad"? He wasn't just the creator, he was the master. Throughout his career, he dropped emotional, soaring ballads that added real weight and depth to his recordings. Without this album's "Changes", we wouldn't have heard Beth calling, found our way home sweet home, realized that roses have thorns, and a sweet child wouldn't have been ours. Thanks to Ozzy, even the Metal kids had something to slow dance to. Rest in peace, you bat-eating madman.

Talk about timing. 😢

foundational in almost every way. riff making is tony iommi's legacy (for better and worse depending on where you look in modern metal). ozzy is the quintessential tortured scene maker messy rock star. this one even has the out of character balladish departure in the middle and the song about cocaine! all of the heavy music in the world today walks on roads paved by black sabbath. this is probably the best and tightest sabbath album that doesn't indulge in too much extended wankery (or maybe the wankery it engages in is just good enough to justify itself).

RIP Ozzy, you goddamn legend...what a strange coincidence this pops up. I have never really delved into Black Sabbath other than I know what their "mainstream" stuff is. This album offered things I completely expected would come from Black Sabbath and others that left me shocked. Wheels of Confusion, Supernaut, and Snowblind are the highlights of the hard rock/metal anyone would anticipate when listening to Black Sabbath. Strong guitar riffs and Ozzy's vocals had me banging my ahead along. Then along comes Changes, which catches you completely off guard and puts you on your ass (metaphorically). It's a beautifully sung, piano-forward anthem. I mean...how have I not heard this song before? It is wonderful, deep, and the last thing I would have expected on a Black Sabbath album. I also read the backstory behind how they created the song Changes and it's INSANE. Apparently the guitarist taught himself to play piano while they were recording and they built the song based on a riff he was doing. And they wrote the lyrics based on the drummer's ongoing divorce. I mean, what a story and you feel that emotion in Ozzy's singing. Just brilliant stuff. Another song that caught me by surprise was Laguna Sunrise, which was a light and soothing instrumental. It's fitting that both this and Changes are in the middle of the respective sides of this album. I was not expected to be blown away by this. I thought I would just be rocking out for 40+ minutes. Instead, you get this wonderfully complex album that you can also jam out to for most of the time. And they made this while insanely coked out the whole time (in case the meaning behind the song title Snowblind was ever in doubt). This is solidly a 5-star album. I was genuinely shocked by how much I enjoyed this. I'll probably come back to this a bunch over the next few weeks.

Wheels of Confusion/The Straightener is a fuckin JAM. Tbh I haven't really dug into Black Sabbath besides what we've heard through this project, but I gave the first 2 albums solid 4's! This one is trending there right now. Never realized Changes was sampled on Eminems song Changes. That's a pretty heavy chorus, well done Ozzy. Supernaut and Snowblind both kick ass. What rockin jams. I know Ozzy is the huge draw, but damn these instrumental songs are pretty damn beautiful on here. Went and listened to some other Black Sabbath today and it all slaps mf'in hard. But this album ebbs and flows like a 5 star album to me. You get the rippin tunes and then cuts with some beautiful stuff, compared to the past albums we listened to which just shred your knocker off. Beautifully heavy. Surprising 5 for me here I was all ready to go in on a 4 but the instrumentals really solidified it for me. I've listened to it like 4 times in the past 24 hours and I'm loving it. Don't care if I'm appeasing to Ozzy dying 2 days ago, this album just straight rocks.

Heavy metal because of Tony Iommi's cut finger !!!! Powerful end expressive

Awesome doom metal album. So many hauntingly beautiful riffs and solos on here. Fascinating that tomorrow's dream was picked as the single. I like supernaut under the sun and especially snowblind all better. Changes as the soft ballad of the record also works for me. Great record!

Thoroughly enjoyed. Also loved that there were softer moments to balance out the whole vibe.

I kinda love the direction this went in. Sort of less heavy, but more stoner metal. Changes is a treasure, but Under The Sun, Supernaut and Snowblind also kick ass.

Once again, tragedy strikes, and the generous host of this site, SidledsGunnar, responded in kind. With the passing of the legendary singer and metal icon Ozzy Osbourne, everyone was treated to a Black Sabbath album if they hadn't gotten all of them already. This will be the last Sabbath album I need to cover for this journey, and it feels good to end this chapter on a high note. I found myself listening to Vol. 4 in its entirety, and I couldn't find anything to complain about here. This is astounding as the band continued to experiment with their heavy sound into new avenues. Whether it's the piano ballad "Changes" or the funky percussion of "Supernaut" or the doom-and-gloom closer "Under the Sun", the variety in style and tone on this record is well-varied and executed. Hell, I even enjoyed the eerie guitar delay echoes of "FX", and that interlude came about from the boys fucking about with throwing objects at Tony Iommi's guitar. It's amazing how much quality, influential music they churned out while high on cocaine, a sentiment they fully embraced on their ode to the drug, "Snowblind". There ain't much else I need to say here, as Vol. 4 is such a phenomenal record. While it can be argued that this album is not as essential to listen to before you die compared to the self-titled debut or Paranoid, it was still a banger of a time. Long live the Prince of Darkness.

RIP Ozzy! Thanks for all the great music! This is not my favorite Black Sabbath record, but it is definitely a great listen. The early days of Black Sabbath were their best, but they continue to rock after all these years. I was lucky enough to see the original lineup in the late nineties, and again in the mid-2000s, but without Bill Ward on drums.

And, like clockwork, this comes over the transom the day after Ozzy dies. What's really fascinating to me is that once I listen to a seminal album like this -- I hear echoes of it everywhere. "Supernaut" would have been an awesome song for the Allman Brothers to cover. Iommi's riffs play just as well with ZZ Top and Skynyrd as they do with heavier stuff. It's fucking brilliant.

The timing on this album coming up is either intentional or an amazing coincidence with Ozzy passing away yesterday. This opening track is amazing. I never gave this album a proper listen. I remember reading about the recording of it in Tony Iommi’s book. Changed has always been my least favorite Black Sabbath song. Now it’s growing on me. “FX” is clearly the band having a good time in the studio. 😂 “Supernaut” is such a great tune. All this time I didn’t think I knew the song “Snowblind” and now that I’m hearing it, I do know it. I never knew the title. Watching the final sabbath show where all the bands covered a sabbath or Ozzy tune, I started realizing I know more of the sabbath catalog than I thought, I’m just terrible with names. Cornucopia is new to my ears. I’m really digging this song so far. I think I need to get at least the first four albums on vinyl. These are great records. I’m listening to Laguna sunrise. What a beautiful song. There is so much to these guys as musicians. St virus dance is not what I was expecting. Still good. “Under the sun” is so heavy.

I used to think all those kids in high school wearing Alice In Chains shirts were tougher and cooler than me but now I know they really just had bad taste rock. Age really has a way of disarming you.

RIP Ozzy.

Ozzie dies and the next morning this is my album of the day. So I'm not entirely unsentimental in this moment. But I do love this album. The elements are sophomoric but somehow the whole is exquisite. There is something so honest and unpretentious in the collective musical expressions presented here; like they now know exactly how they want to sound and don't care what anyone thinks about it. They take heed of JP's model - add a little light to the heavy - and produce an album that reflects the true spirit of rock and roll as well as any.

It's the day after the Prince of Darkness passed, and maybe this brief review is written with Ozzy-tinted glasses. While Vol. 4 isn’t my favorite Sabbath record, it might be the most Sabbath Sabbath ever — messy, heavy, and weird. "Changes" and "Laguna Sunrise" stretch the emotional range, while “Supernaut” into "Snowblind" is pure as the cocaine in the speakers. The rest shows how casually great they were, even while falling apart in real time. Flawed, but monumental. Five stars.

RIP Ozzy

The first time we visited Australia – February 2004, I think – I visited a newsagents on Rockingham foreshore. A locally-produced copy of Kerang! magazine had a double page spread on Australian “emo” bands. I’d been listening to Finch, Brand New, The Used, Glassjaw, maybe Taking Back Sunday (I think I might have gotten their debut only after that holiday, though) so had my attention immediately piqued. Nestled among the sections on Something With Numbers, IKTPQ and After The Fall was a paragraph about Love Like … Electrocution. It would’ve said something about them being a fast, frantic screamo band (and proper screamo, I hasten to add 21 years later) but it was the last sentence that stayed with me long enough to encourage me to finally, when I had the chance a year or so later to check them out. (By ordering their LP in at 78 Records no less! I got some incredible stuff that way: Cursed, Curl Up and Die, Capsule, Converge – presumably some records by bands not beginning with “C” too.) That line was something like: “And any band that starts their album with a song called ‘We only fuck to Black Sabbath Vol. 4’ is fine by us.” The coolest sentence I’d ever read at that point in my life, in short. (And wow oh wow was it worth the wait; Love Like … Electrocution are still one my favourite bands ever, even if proper screamo is deeply unfashionable and they barely exist on the internet.) Anyway, it’s likely that not a single one of those bands I’ve mentioned would have existed without Sabbath. And the debt of gratitude I feel weighs particularly heavy with the passing of Ozzy Osborne, he who brought so much charisma to the “dark side” that he transformed culture entirely and forever. What of Vol. 4? It’s great. Some of the most batshit brilliant drumming ever recorded, massive bloody riffs, chugging bass and Ozzy’s commanding, driving, cackling style (here refined in a way that belies the professionalism that accompanied his debauchery) – a voice that often on the record feels big enough to fill an entire universe. Which, really, it did. I’m tempted to say it’s Sabbath’s universe, we’re all just fucking in it. I’ll settle for thanks, Ozzy.

By Vol.4 the pioneers of metal have perfected their sound and begun to experiment with acoustic tracks “Changes” and my personal favorite on the record “Laguna Sunrise”

I don’t have to listen to this one today…as I already have. RIP Ozzy! Was wearing this shirt earlier today

Pica pra caralho F Ozzy

Great Album

no notes, goodnight sweet prince

This is the second Black Sabbath album I’ve listened all the way through, and it marks two times I’ve learned that I might be a BS fan. Great listen.

RIP. DESCUBRIMIENTO BRUTAL

Favorite Song: Snowblind

Yes yes yes!!!!!!!!*******

Amazing album, as good as paranoid. Rip ozzie

Today’s album was one I’d heard a bunch, as I’m a huge Sabbath fan. Ir may be my favorite Sabbath album, tho they had a great run early on as their first 5 albums are classics. Vol. 4 was released in 1972, which blows my mind because it’s just so heavy. It was also the first album the band produced themselves. This was also one of the most drug-fueled albums they’d recorded at that point, see Snow Blind. All songs were credited to the band and bassist Geezer Butler wrote all the lyrics. The album was critically acclaimed when it was released. And there were no real singles released because A. Black Sabbath was not a singles band, 2. most Black Sabbath songs were too long for the radio and III. they scared mom and the kids. The most intriguing thing about this album, besides being great when everyone who made it was super-high on coke, is that at points it’s the heaviest ever and then you get a song like Changes, a slower, piano-driven ballad. Or you’ll get a very melodic bridge in the middle of Tomorrow’s Dream. The standouts on this album for me are….all of them. This is almost a perfect album. Even tho Sabbath had the same vibe on each record, this one has several curveballs, like Changes, the very weird FX and the amazing Laguna Sunrise. My personal fave is Snowblind. I’ve loved that song since the first time I heard it. It’s heavy and it’s about cocaine. Two things a young kid from the rural south is fascinated by. Black Sabbath Vol. 4 is a must listen in my opinion.

Classic.. awesome

Snowblind

One of Ozzy’s best. RIP!

Who doesn’t love Black Sabbath!!!

Incredible

It's Black Sabbath, it's getting 5 stars. Ozzy passed yesterday too, which makes this a bit of sad timing. Strangely enough despite listening to metal for over 20+ years, this is my first time listening to this album in full. It is not my favorite of theirs and doesn't have as many instantly recognizable bangers as the first two but still is full of sick riffs.

Me salió este algún al día siguiente que murió Ozzy. Increíble

Drums, guitar riffs, vocals all high energy and stand up and shout worthy. Loved the back in the day and still Great album. RIP Ozzie

Kickass album

Nice surprise. Pound for pound, my favourite Sabbath album. Groove, heaviness…and at the top of their game. My first ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ rating..

This slaps

Absolute classic

Man, Sabbath had such an incredible run of Albums between 70 and 75. I think Master of Reality is probably my favourite. Vol. 4 is also awesome. We'll miss you Ozzy. Peace out.

Peak Sabbath. The fourth record in their unimpeachable five album run it’s a perfect distillation of once they’d settled into being stars and started hovering up all the coke in the world, but hadn’t let any of that destroy them yet. Supernaut is a phenomenon

First of all, RIP Ozzy, absolute legendary mad man. This album fucking rules. While it may not be thematically as cohesive as Paranoid, it’s an evolution of a band that is exploring avenues outside and adjacent to the genre they helped pioneer.

A true classic and a banger front to back, RIP Ozzy

RIP Ozzy

Wow, what a blind spot on my part. Could’ve convinced me this was Zeppelin when I first started learning about them. Favorite(s): “Snowblind”; “Cornucopia”

R.I.P Ozzy

Ozzy Osbournes Black Sabbath is one of the most important bands in Heavy Metal, this album shows you why.

To receive this album following the death of Ozzy Osbourne was such a treat and great way to sit with, and truly think about, the legacy he left behind. Every song on this album is simply fantastic. Great musicianship with some of the best solos I've heard in rock & metal music. The lyrics and vocals are impactful. All around fantastic album. RIP Ozzy Osbourne, THE Prince of Darkness

Another one with crazy timing, I was assigned this the day after Ozzy died. In fact, I listened to this very album yesterday in tribute!

Ozzie died yesterday 7/22/25. RIP Prince of Darkness

From the first second, this is definitely my favorite metal album I’ve ever heard. I’ve always enjoyed the descendants of metal more than metal itself. This album is changing that for me. I never realized how talented ozzy really is. And the tones on here man. All that from cranking a Marshall stack. RIP Ozzy. Thank you for everything you did for music.

Heavy, loud, emblematic. Another of Black Sabbath's best with the original lineup. Essential to any collection.

RIP Ozzy

Fuck Yeah RIP Ozzy

Very good

It is the day after Ozzy's death. Rest in peace Prince of Darkness. This is my final Sabbath entry on this list. Yet another masterpiece of rock music out of this group. They dropped 6 straight amazing albums from the onset without a single bad tune. This work shows the depth of music that they had in their back pockets with songs like Laguana Sunrise highlighting thier softer side. A legendary work and one that will live in infamy for kick ass human beings for centuries to come. Monumental. 9/10

An astonishing record in a run of astonishing records.

Home run album. Fast and slow. RIP Ozzy!!!

Gestern ist Ozzy Osbourne gestorben und heute gibt‘s ein Album von Black Sabbath. Zufall?

Sabbath kicks ass. Spooky and pretty funky.

This album is fantastic. I mean that in a real overall sense. Yes, Ozzy died yesterday and that sucks. But that is NOT why this album is great. It is great because they set the stage for everything and everyone who would parallel the punk movement with a darkside twist on the establishment. They were no more satanists than pet rocks, but they dared play with the roles, Also the band is fantastic and Ozzy.. .well, yeah, he has the voice so it is one of those matches made in ... Heaven? No. It is not r e a l l y classic rock, it steps too far out there and dares too much that what we call classic rock. Again, it is like punk done metal. And it really is brilliant!

this album has it all - from long energetic blues influenced metal epics to piano driven ballads. It sounds like the group was struggling heavily at the time with falling into further addiction while simultaneously producing their album by themselves for the first time in the career. However, in the words of Ozzy, they had never been tighter on an album. The reckless drug use coupled with the constant fear and anxiety of getting caught and arrested led to a really deep and emotional album that had a ton of classics.

Rest in peace, you god damn legend. Damn, when Changes came on, I actually got pretty emotional...wasn't expecting that

Changes

Not sure if it's 5 instead of 4 since I'm listening to this about 12 hours after Ozzy's death was announced, but it's a fantastic album either way 🤘🤘🤘🦇🦇🦇

Absolute fucking classic!! RIP Ozzy!

👋🏻❤️

Glorious album with surprising range. Rip Ozzy

Why ya gotta do this to me, man? Black Sabbath the day after Ozzy's passing? That has be intentional, right? If not, then it's a huge coincidence. As for rating this album. Not my favorite from them, but still pretty good. Would rate it a 3.6 or so, but he's getting a full 5 stars today. RIP Ozzy. I know people dig the "Changes" and "Snowblind" according to the number of plays it gets, but I think the one I like most is "Under the Sun", and that one's going on the playlist.

Black Sabbath is amazing. RIP Ozzy.

R.I.P OZZY

RIP Ozzy

A classic

“You can only trust yourself and the first six Black Sabbath albums.” -Henry Rollins

Wait...what? Is this intentional? A bizarre random coincidence? Ozzy speaking to us from the great beyond!? I listened to the record twice yesterday. And then on the radio while driving (KEXP playing solid Ozzy all day). And then on Spotify while driving home. Still not sick of it. So listened to it again today. My favorite Sabbath album due to having two of my favorite Sabbath songs (Supernaut and Snowblind). RIP, Prince of Darkness.

Fucking great album. Supernaut is a jam. So is Cornucopia, and Under The Sun…the whole album really. Was lucky enough to catch both Ozzy and a reunited Black Sabbath at OzzFest way back in 1997. R.I.P. to the prince of darkness. Hope you’re partying it up in hell with the devil shooting Hitler in the dick with paintballs, giving atomic wedges to Ronald Reagan and whatever else cool shit they got to do down there 👹🤘🏻🤘🏻

a perfect album. what strikes me on the millionth relisten is how dynamic it is for a genre that can certainly struggle with sounding the same. I don’t think tony iommi gets enough credit for his guitar god status. rip ozzy. what a treat this was

Stunning.

This sound drills right into my ear snail, thanks. I was surprised by all of the range in this album, absolutely excellent. RIP

Actually really epic. RIP Oz and all but god damn Tommy Iommi is a beast!!

Not quiiite as good as Paranoid since that one had all the bangers and this one had not any that I knew, but still a 5. Not sure they can miss. RIP Ozzy

Powerful yet melodic

Could be the most iconic rock band. Not their greatest album but still 5 stars. Opening and closing songs are crazy good and Changes deserves a mention because of how completely different yet amazing it is. RIP Ozzy, not sure how he managed to live that long tbf.

While its not their greatest album, everything they did was pure gold & so genre-defining. Hell yeah

Shit, I think I like this more than Paranoid...

FUCK YEA! How did I miss this album? I think I had only ever listened to the first 3, but this might be the best one. Sounds shitty, but after Ozzy died I started the day saying Black Sabbath might be a bit overrated. I've always been a fan but where he/they sit in Rock lore seemed a bit overblown. After listening to this I take it back. Black Sabbath fucking rocks. At work I've been dealing with the most corporate political bullshit for a year, went to the gym and put this on and it was the PERFECT antidote. Snowblind instantly made me want to smash my laptop and rob a convenience store. The off speed stuff on here is perfectly placed too. What a fucking album! RIP Ozzy!

Hell yeah. The band is operating at the peak of their powers. This album outright rocks and rolls and avoids their (occasional) tendency to plod. It comes roaring out the f the gate and straight into Tomorrow's Dream - an absolute monster groove. Changes is an all timer - a song many band would have killed for in the era. Supernaut is less played than unleashed. Side two continues the onslaught (Snowblind referencing their ample consumption of the many offerings of LA) before slowing things down for Laguna Sunrise and then closing things out with two bangers. Not many have done it better. Funny what a little sunlight can do. Just a little...

I mean, even with some minor personal quibbles about this album it’s still a damn good album. Easy 5 stars, not shocked this album popped up the day after Ozzy passed.

RIP Ozzy!

Oh, man. The day after the Prince of Darkness passes... Was this just a coincidence? Just some good, classic stoner metal here. A few psychedelic guitar leads mixed in. Then, you get to Changes, which isn't metal in the least, more of a soul song. I guess it's kind of metal to put a soul song on a metal album... FX is cool. Just having fun in the studio type shit. Perfect song title for Laguna Sunrise. Matches the music, which also isn't metal. This album broadens their horizons, showing they not only rock, but are also able to roll. This album is a 5.

Now I am convinced that whoever is running this website has the ability to push out specific albums on certain days. I've seen a few other well-timed albums like this occur here, but getting assigned this album right after Ozzy's passing probably isn't a coincidence. Today was Ozzy's funeral, and after watching some footage of his procession, I was inspired to jump way ahead in my backlog of assigned albums and listen to Vol. 4 today. I've never listened to this album and haven't ever heard the songs, except for Changes, but that was mostly as the awesome Charles Bradley cover used as the Big Mouth theme song. I found this album really easy to like. It strikes me as well balanced, containing some looser jams, but it's still structured enough to be cohesive. Heavy riffs, rock grooves, and yet also some moments of real beauty. It's full of energy, and I love that it retains some rawness to the production. Drums, guitars, every part has their moments to shine here. And soaring above it all like a banshee, cutting through the haze, delivering the simple yet poetic lyrics is Ozzy's unmistakable, piercing voice, which brings a lot of emotional expression to the mix with his instinct for phrasing and melody. I listened to this album twice today, which I almost never do, and I could already feel it growing on me. I would definitely listen to it again. I'm so stingy with 5's, but I feel like this could grow into a 5 for me, so why not?

R.I.P 🦇

A very timely listen, due to the sad passing of Ozzy Osbourne the day before. For me, one of the key albums in the history of Black Sabbath, and a huge influence on some massive names in heavy rock. R.I.P. John Michael ‘Ozzy’ Osbourne

So, yeah, Black Sabbath was awesome. Part of me wonders: did Black Sabbath discover all the coolest guitar riffs in the early 70's, leaving nothing but scraps for every band that came after? I know the answer is no because there have been a million awesome bands that came after them, but there's a finite number of ways to arrange notes in a 2-5 minute song, and Ozzy and co. sure found a bunch of badass ones. 4.5

A road map for metal to come down. It’s a little all over the place but also rocks hard. Play loud.

Black Sabbath’s first 5 albums are all outstanding!

Wow this rocked. Even if Ozzy didn’t die yesterday this would have gotten a 5 from me and I’ve never heard any of it before. Toni Iomis guitar parts were unbelievable and the sound of the band was massive. Hard to believe there were only 3 instrument players in Black Sabbath. “Snow blind” was the highlight for me and I also had no idea that the big mouth theme was a cover

Volume 11

but it goes up to 11?

Got this two days before Ozzy's passing and listening to it one day after. RIP but even putting that to one side, this is fantastic. Sounds amazing, heavy af and some of the best riffs ever. Love it.

Possibly the best of all Sabbath albums (though a case could be made for Master of Reality). Just relentlessly awesome! I’ve even come to appreciate “Changes”.

What an album to draw on the day of the big mans death. A masterpiece start to end, you can really hear their blues roots in this, and the sounds that defined a whole new genre growing from that. Rest in peace Ozzy, and thank you for the music

FOREVER

One of the greats

I still don't like that one dumb noodle tacked on to the end of the killer riff of Under the Sun

I’ve only ever listened to the album Paranoid in the past, but I really liked this as well. RIP Ozzy.

This rocks so hard. Almost every track goes hard. The combination of Changes and FX builds to Supernault in an amazing way, but I find both of those tracks too long. Doesn’t matter. This album rocks!

Dark and powerful. I loved the heavy guitars and drums across the whole album. Didn’t love the drug themes, but the overall atmosphere really worked for me.

Legendary!

Not their best but comparing this to other albums on this list, this is great.

My second favourite black sabbath album

10/10 BANGER AND I KNOW BANGERS! i know bangers.

v good

yeah this is a great record! everything i've heard from sabbath has been really great. it's a wonder i never got into them ever, and i'm really sad i hadn't until this project! the guitars are fuzzy and loud as ever, ozzy's vocals are great. there's even some variety on this one with the great piano ballad 'changes.' now that being said, it's not my favorite sabbath, BUT i still had an absolute blast listening to this one!

what the supernaut

9/10 What an awesome album! Really surprised... Black Sabbath, or at least Ozzy Osbourne, we're a joke really for all the time I've been into music. Stupid reality show, Sharon, biting heads off bats etc. But that did them a massive disservice, because this is a great album with Rick solid riffs wrapped up in great songs. Maybe only an 8, but my Mum was a fan in the early 70s, so they get a nostalgia point.

Another masterpiece by Black Sabbath. Their first four albums are their best and classics. The ones after during the Ozzy era and Heaven and Hell with Dio are still great but doesn't quite reach the same flawlessness.

Great from the very first strum of the guitar. Way ahead of its time.

This slaps

I was really impressed with this album - great songs from start to finish!

Prior to this album popping up, my only connection to Black Sabbath outside of the big hits was my stoner uncle who loved them so much that they ended up being the soundtrack to his funeral. Honestly, I kinda get it now. This album kicked all kinds of ass. It’s less metal and more hard rock, and peppier than some of their other stuff, which made it fun. From what I’m reading in some other reviews, that might be related to unprecedented amounts of cocaine. I’m fine with it. It started great and ended great, with some great stuff in between. FX was weird but I just kinda consider it an interlude and it doesn’t take away from the kickassness of the rest of the album. Supernaut was an instant like. What a fun time!

1970-1972 may be, pound for pound, the most important years for metal, and all because of Sabbath. It’s a crime that Master of Reality isn’t also on this list, but we do have Volume 4, aka Snowblind, which only ups the ante from what may be their masterpiece. This is Sabbath at the peak of their powers, with the riffs, drums and Ozzy’s vocals in absolute lock step. Everything sounds incredible, and they may sound the heaviest they’ve ever sounded. Still, you can sense the piles of cocaine mounting, as opposed to the weed and liquor that had dominated prior sessions. The music is crackling and bursting with energy, along with different genres. Reading up on the album, it’s easy to tell this wouldn’t be sustainable, and Sabbath wouldn’t ever hit the same heights, but this is a pretty masterful cap to a run that redefined music forever, with more and more songs and riffs clearly influencing all sorts of metal to come.

Snowblind!

Great! Supernaut is insanely good, didn't know I like another Sabbath album outside of Paranoid.

This great album is the proof that a five-star album doesn't need to be full of hits (and that an album full of hits is not necessarily a five-star album, right, Thriller?) Amazingly consistent, one of the most amazing guitar works I've ever listened to. Black Sabbath at its peak!

Favorite: Changes

Black Sabbath. Enough said.

The exact reason I'm doing this project. I absolutely loved this album from it's typical Sabbath metal songs to softer songs like Changes. I didn't think Black Sabbath could ever close to their hit album Paranoid, but this album proved me wrong.

Surprisingly it seemed very restrained (not all metal) and just was fun from beginning to the end

Really, really good. I think I liked this more than Paranoid. Crazy that they did obscene amounts of cocaine and still sounded this good. Screaming Trees did a cover of “Tomorrow’s Dream” which is actually the first time I heard that song. Really nice variety. They sound great on all the tracks.

cannot believe I'm writing this, but I enjoyed this album. they "might" have been heavily influenced by coke, which is even more shocking that it's so well done. "Changes" and "Laguna Sunrise" are great tracks. still shocked that I enjoyed this. 4.5 stars

Well now, what a difference. From the ridiculous to the sublime (well not quite). By the time they released this one they had started to experiment a bit, hence one of my all time favourite Sabbath tracks FX. When listened to in surround sound stereo the soundscape is utterly amazing the notes swirl all around and through you, it's just fabulous. And then there is that wonderful piece of music Laguna Sunrise. Which, for reasons I won't go into, I shall always know as The Goon At Sunrise. As well as all the songs being of high quality especially what has almost become their signature tune Changes. This is a great great album. I had intended to give this a 4, but after reading this can't see how I can justify anything less than a 5. So there it is.

I’ve never listened to Black Sabbath, I didn’t even know they sang Changes. My grandfather is a huge fan, and I see why. This was incredible, I loved it. In my previous reviews I’ve been saying how none of the rock albums I’ve listened to have converted me to a rock fan, coming back for seconds… this one has. I’ve played this album on repeat more than any other so far. Deep cleaned my old fridge with my headphones, hung washing and drove around all night with only this album on repeat. Hard to explain exactly why this one and no others have, perhaps it’s that this one has a “electronic” feel to it (namely in the guitars, but in the rest of the production too) and a male vocalist I actually like (not a fan usually). Maybe not, who knows, but I’m beyond impressed. I can’t wait to tell my grandfather about this!

Where has this band been all my life? I thought they were some edgy heavy metal band but no they are just an awesome semi blues rock band. Very good stuff.

First album for this project! Great start. I do love me some Ozzy tunezz. Though they might as well have named the album "An Ode to Coke"! Love love love: *Wheels of Confusion *Changes *St. Vitus Dance *Under The Sun ⋆˚࿔♫⋆˚࿔📀♡⋆.˚

Wow! Listening to this album was an experience! Haunting and existential - both lyrically and musically! This is an album I'm definitely going to revisit! I especially loved Changes and Laguna Sunrise, but I loved other individual songs as well! Album rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I love this album!!

Really incredible album, guitars make me climax, put me onto all of the other first 5 BS records, and I was not disappointed with them either

Vol 4 might not even be my favorite of BS's incredible first 5 albums run with Ozzy as a vocalist, but damn it still bangs enough to get a 5 stars. Seeing the cult status that paranoid and Master of reality hold, you could Even call this album quite underrated. It was the first Black Sabbath album not produced by rodger brain and produced by the band itself, but it still perfectly holds up with its predecessors while sounding slightly different. Incredible album

Songs: Wheels of Confusion, Changes, Laguna Sunrise,

Arguably their best album. Ozzy is phenomenal. Instant 5, just add volume.

Both sludgier and prettier than previous albums. Classic Black Sabbath never misses.

Black Sabbath doing what Black Sabbath did best - heavy riffs, cocaine, and more heavy riffs!

This was really great. Nicely hooky and melodic, but with that typical Sabbath edge that's just perfect. I was really surprised by Laguna Sunrise, which reminded me of something I'd hear from The Beatles. Surprisingly good. Five stars.

Classic Black Sabbath album; amazing guitars, mix of slower, lyrical moments and great metal riffs. Standouts: great moments found throughout, particularly Snowblind, Supernaut, Laguna Sunrise

Masterpiece!!

I am only on track three but based off of the sort of mythos Black Sabbath has, I was fully expecting something much more intense. That is not a negative thing at all though, the intensity of this album came through in how it felt like sludging through thick black concrete, smoke, and tar. loved it !!!

This is some great shit. I love a STRONG HEAVY song so this is exactly what we want to hear. Their rendition of Changed is phenomenal

Hard Rock at it`s Best!

Coke rocks!

This album is a bold 5 stars. The band just burned everything surrounding them with that one. How can you be so heavy and groovy at the same time? While listening to it, I want to dance and throw a chair at the wall at the very same time. Ozzy's delivery is out of this world, Bill Ward is playing like he wants to destroy his drum kit, Geezer is more solid than ever and Iommi's guitar is pure evil.

Finally landed on one of my all-time favorite bands and albums. The first 4 Sabbath albums are unbeatable. Really the first 6 all could have arguably made this list. Heavy, sludge, yet melodic and catchy. Bill Ward is the unsung hero on this record. His powerful yet playful jazzy drumming adds a fun counterpoint to Tony and Geezer's plodding and doomy riffs. Just listen to his tasty fills and high hat work on Snowblind. 4.5/5 Album 12/1001

Like all of Sabbath's early albums this one is very fun and unique. Changes is a massive change of pace, while all the rest have this Lo-fi early-metal mystique that I find very appealing, perhaps do the fact that my father was a Black Sabbath superfan from their early days. 5/5

Yeah, I really unexpectedly, liked this album. It starts off really good and then it blew me away with Changes, which is such a pleasant surprise. Most of the riffs here are really great as well + ozzy’s very distinct voice helps a lot as well.

Didn't think I would, but I loved it

Simply great album from start to finish was a perfect workout companion in the morning and added to one of my favorites all time.

A fucking masterpiece

The Best Black Sabbath Album.

Taken me months to review this. Mostly because i cant believe this is my favorite Sabbath record. Its just as raw and heavy as thier first three masterpieces, with even better contrasted melodies and acoustic accompaniment. Psychedelic Sludge

Favorite track: snowblond other picks: supernaut, the straightener, laguna sunrise

Awesome!

I enjoyed this album a lot more than I expected to. It's heavy and loud, and the melodies are great. The slower and (relatively) quieter "Changes" is really the glue that holds this album together, adding both emotional and musical depth - although my favorite track is probably "Supernaut."

I finished the album today but it won’t let me rate it yet When it does, either 4 or 5 stars. Superb

🤘 Excellent

It's Black Sabbath, obviously it has to be a 5 more so because it's Ozzys black sabbath

90% Best: Wheels of Confusion/The Straightener; Changes; Supernaut; Snowblind; Under the Sun Must-Hear? Yes

I was big into metal at school in the very early 80s. But with plenty of New Wave stuff around and regarding Black Sabbath (without the fired Ozzy) as has-beens I never sought out any of their old stuff. I wasn't expecting an album like this. The standard Sabbath sound, but with melodic, thoughtful quiet bits too. Changes is a good song but let down by the horrible melotron behind it. It's really the only track that lets the album down. Could this be the third 5* album I've had this week?... I think so.

AMAZING ALBUM AMAZING!

It's not my favourite Sabbath album as I find the guitar tone a bit fuzzy overall, but it's still great.

I listened to this recently as part of a Black Sabbath binge in response to Ozzy dying. This is one of their best albums. 10/10

голос невероятный, не мой жанр, но я в восторге от солиста

Muito bom. Changes é a minha preferida. Um álbum bem dinâmico, bastante ideias boas.

# Album Name: Vol.4 # Artist: Black Sabbath # Rating: 5/5 # Comments: My 2nd sabbath album in a week. Im looking forward to this. Their first album blew me away. It was great. Wheels of confusion - fucking damn good solo to finish on. Changes is a wild side step. It shows the depth to the bands talents taking their sound in a delicate direction. Its a lovely song. Great lyrics and music on this song. Supernaut - best track on the album. Love that killer riff. Great drums. Sabbath have really shocked me. I was never into them or heard much but the last two albums i have had were great. This album isnt as good as their debut but its still bloody good. Theres some great riffs and tunes on this album. # Top Tunes: WoC / Changes / Supernaut / snowblind # Would I listen to it again? Yes

Yes!!! This is stunning, original, organic, visceral. If there's a better heavy rock album I want to hear it. I'd only heard 'Changes' (what a change of pace) and the awesome 'Supernaught' before, but everything here is great. There's so much more to them than their huge heavy riffs. The opening track is spectacular, 'Snowblind' is awesome. Then they come down and do something beautiful like 'Laguna Sunrise', then back up full of riffs and energy for 'St Vitus Dance' and a cool closer. Genuinely faultless, only works loud of course. For me no other heavy rock band comes close. Funny how they inspired so many one dimensional metal bands really. p.s. 'Are You Gonna Go My Way' is brilliant, but is so inspired by 'Supernaught' :)

This was actually good. I did not know Black Sabbath sung “Changes” but they do and it’s SOO GOOD. This album was so fire 🔥🔥🔥

Vol. 4- Black Sabbath ||4.5/5⭐️ ༘˚⋆𐙚。⋆𖦹.✧˚ uhhh totally didn’t write this tdy on the bus😅😅🥰🥰🤫🤫 it’s insanely better than british steel (more like bollocks steel am i right fellas?!?!) the instrumentals are really good! i really like supernaut for that reason, really good defined sound with a little bit of really good vocals. i also love laguna sunrise, it threw me off a bit with the change in sound but oh my god it’s such a beautiful melody like what the hell😿 the accoustic with like the beautiful violin in the back and it being all slow paced like some love ballad?? i think that’s rlly cool. i was a little nervous at first bc judas priest left a bad taste in my mouth for the genre but this album has completely fixed that. overall id say all the songs are pretty strong, i really like the more heartfelt ones fs^^ the only song i find myself really hating is FX but that’s just like beeps and boops. ______________________ stand out songs: wheels of confusion/ the straightener, changes🥇, supernaut, snowblind🥈, cornucopia, laguna sunrise🥉, st. vitus dance, under the sun/ ever day comes and goes

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐️ 4[.6] of 5 stars. One of Black Sabbath's best. The riffs on this thing are insane. They're captivating, and most importantly, heavy (at least for the time!). They also add a lot of variation with some acoustic tracks and (experimental?) effects-based songs. And ofc, how could I not mention Ozzy's iconic voice? This whole album is amazing and works together so well. It's no "Paranoid," but it's definitely up there imo. An inspiration for many a metal band to come. Love the guitar work throughout the whole thing, Sabbath's signature gritty guitar sound shines thru the whole thing, and like I mentioned before, the acoustic ones are a nice break-up from them (even tho they still go rly hard). The effects experimentation on "FX" is really interesting to listen to, and the riffs on "Under the Sun / Every Day Comes and Goes" and "Supernaut" are incredible, and "Changes" is just an amazing song overall, instrumentally and vocally - it's iconic. Favourites: "Under the Sun / Every Day Comes and Goes"⭐, Changes⭐, Supernaut, FX. Dislikes: none :P

"Changes" is kind of a weak song and doesn't fit the flow of the album, but the rest of the record is straight fire - a masterclass in riffing.

Kommt nicht ganz an Paranoid ran, aber trotzdem fantastisch

LOVE IT

The parents of Heavy Metal.

great tempo and beats, black sabbath one of the og metal bands

I really need to delve deeper into this band.

Vol. 4 doesn’t just hit hard sonically, it's introspective. There’s experimentation, melancholy, and flashes of genius that flicker like candlelight in a dark and gloomy basement. As a first-time listener, I’m blown away by the sheer magnitude of this record. Each song a musical experience that completely captivated me. Black Sabbath didn’t just create metal, they summoned it. And with Vol. 4, they went deeper into the ritual than ever before. 🕯️🕸️🪦 rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ [93/100]

Never thought I’d like Black Sabbath but I enjoyed this album!

Just another classic Sabbath album to kills it from start to finish.

Outstanding

Classic. Play loud.

The most under rated Sabbath album IMO

Great album from one of the best. The couple of nice acoustical songs mixed in.

It's an amazing album and quite an achievement; the first four Sabbath records are all 5/5 star records. I am not even sure what could be written about this record, the simple reality is the first four albums are essential, and the fifth record as well. Incredible run.

It’s Sabbath.

It is perfect and very interesting album. It is very "innovative" in comparison to Master of Reality. Why I never heard it before?! It is very strange that this metal rock album has NO noise. I like it. This is a masterpiece. However, I don't want to listen it second time.

so suprised by how great this album is. a killer front to back

Triumphant, psychedelic and heartfelt. Might be my favorite Sabbath album. I love the juxtaposition of heavy tracks with melodic tunes. Not every song is hard hitting but they were playing with their sound a lot and I'm just a sucker for the lads.
