Pioneering a genre is bound to result in kinks that require ironing out. Lots of good ideas held down by an abundance of sections that droned on for too long. "Moonchild" really drags my overall rating down. I absolutely hated it. Fave track: The Court of the Crimson King Cool flute solo, probably more enjoyable because it came on after Moonchild. 2.5/5
These confectioners might think our palates will enjoy the initial burst of sugar (track 1 was great), but in the end it stunk

Was kind of interested for a bit but it got pretty boring. The extended in noodling in Moonchild really lost me but I stuck it out. At least it wasn't a very long album. Never had much interest in prog rock and it turns out that was probably legit.

Too Jazzy
Absolute pretentious wank. I don't care if it's "experimental" every song is way too long and crammed with endless fills of garbage. Whenever any song gets good it abruptly changes into mindless noodling and noise for up to 12 fucking minutes. I talk to the wind was the only half decent track, and that's mainly because it sounds like a Beatles knock off. 5* album art, 1* album.

1/5. Found it a real chore to get through this album, not sure why. Know it comes as a "must have vinyl" but was shite for me.
King Crimson and this album always seems to show up in any list of the best albums of all time without exception, but I never understood this because of how boring this album is. The album peaks with an exciting albeit too long song in 21st Century Schizoid Man, and the quality is just a flatline from there on out. This and every other prog rock album is too long and very boring.

21st Century Schizoid Man: no es mi vibra, para nadisima. toda la cancion es bastante parecida, sakvo el solo de instrumentos que es epico, pero aun asi no me copo. I Talk to the Wind: esta me gusto mas, probablemente porque es mas chill, me gusto el beat, estan buenos, pero tampoco digo wow. Epitaph: los mismo que la anterior en cuanto opinion Moonchild: no me gusto The Court of the Crimson King: meh A Man a City: es normal En conclusion, no me gusta ete tipo de musica. reconozco qu eme gustaron mucho las instrumentales, pero no es para mi

A cheestastic wank fest. This brings to mind Sean Connery as Zardoz, only this is the soundtrack to an even worse 70s B-movie. This album has been heralded by some musicians I know. I'll try not to hold it against them.

I'm trying to get past the "Schizoid Man" lyrics and just appreciate the instrumentals of the first song because the big band feeling is impressive, but as the album kept going the more I didnt like it.

My god this us long winded. Save for the time i spent trying to work out what had sampled the opening track there is nothing remotely positive of the first track. I talk to the wind is just dull. Epitaph is the usual overlong prog guff. Moonchild features that other albums like this, a tune that at times sounds like the engineer has just recorded the instruments being set up and tested possibly by toddlers. The Court of King Crimson brings down the curtain in a suitably overblown fashion and hopefully signals the end of my listening to their work
The review is solely based on the original tracklisting, not the expanded version on Amazon Music. 21st Century Schizoid Man (Including "Mirrors") I liked the beginning of, hated the middle of, and was indifferent to the end of. Trimming that down, well chopping it in half, would have made a song I'd enjoy. I Talk To The Wind I just found long and fairly uninteresting. Epitaph (including March for No Reason and Tomorrow and Tomorrow) had the vocals so low, both in general and in the mix, at times that I had to turn up the overall volume to try and hear him. I was surprised to read Brett Gurewitz's Epitaph Records label (home of most of my favourite bands from the 90s, and one of my current favourites, Roe Kapara) and was named after this track. It was ok, but too long. Moonchild (including The Dream and The Illusion) is over 12 minutes long and makes me want to scream with frustration. Not sure if that was what they were going for. IT IS SO LONG AND MEANDERING! Even they don't seem to see the point in it, as they first played it live 48 years after releasing it. I cannot imagine how boring a live experience this song would be. The Court of the Crimson King was marginally shorter, so at least there's that. There's actually some small parts I like in this track, but not enough to make me enjoy the whole. There are parts of this album that I didn't hate, but I disliked Moonchild so much, it's sullied the whole LP for me. Once again, I do not understand the attraction in 95% of Prog Rock. 1/5 (it would have got 2 had Moonchild been banished)

I struggled with this. Prog is not my thing at all and I didn't really particularly enjoy anything here.
I do not care for prog rock. Like, it's pretty annoying to me. Pretentious theater kids acting like their better that everyone and just telling critics that they don't "get it." That means you aren't conveying anything in a meaningful way; you're just self-grandeurizing.

This album was undoubtedly made for either someone more musically cultured than me and into progressive rock. For me a lot of it just sounded like the weird background music on retro kids cartoons (think Tom and Jerry). Sometimes I felt great the song has finished, just for an extra five minutes of random instrumental. A song should never be nine minutes, well unless it’s good, and then it’s ok

Not really my thing. Sounds like a weird cross between alternative, low-fi, and really early rock. I had previously heard 21st Century Schitzo Man before listening to this album.
I've been pleasantly surprised by the other prog-rock albums that have shown up on this list. Entries from Rush, ELP and the likes have been getting a healthy bump above my initial expectations. Unfortunately King Crimson didn't follow this trend. I wanted to like this album it but really couldn't get into it at all. It's a mess of long bland songs and honestly a little annoying. I will be filing this one away for good. 1.22 stars

It’s a 1 because it was way too long and ended up being very pointless. It was not good at all.
This was weird. It started off sounding like it would be quite an interesting listen but it really trailed off and it eventually just sounded like they were in demo mode and taking the piss with who could make a sound next.

I've tried, but this just doesn't seem to agree with me. I know that its rated a classic by many, but too difficult for me to get into. I do like some of Fripp's later solo work, and definitely his work with Bowie and The Roches.

The first minute of this album is good. Then they go off on pointless noodling. But it gets worse. How about the vastly wimpy I Talk To The Wind? But things can still get worse. Moonshine is 12 minutes (seemed like 12 decades) of guitar/vibraphone (or glockenspiel) pointlessness. The title track is stupidly self-indulgent. If you want to listen to prog, find Queen II. They do stretch out to 6 minutes for a song, but those songs are full of dense ideas and power. If you played King Crimson to impress girls you would remain a virgin. I was going 2 stars because they play well. But insipid shit like this should be dumped.

Prog rock was, I suppose, *necessary* for rock to evolve and avoid the trap that US country music now finds itself — self-referential anaemic reverence of tropes so worn out you they’re like muslin in the sun. But did it have to be so outright dull? There are two ideas, maximum, on each of these tracks. And then there’s buggering about on a keyboard, committed to tape, and regarded as some sort of innovation. No. This says nothing, means nothing, evokes nothing. Dirge.

Listened to this album with a friend many years (admittedly several decades) ago. The songs and their eclectic sound struck me in the same way jazz does. Meaning that their music just falls short of the bar I have set for enjoyment and doesn't warrant any purchase for further listening. While by no means is it repulsive and I do respect their artistry, it's not for me.

Regular readers will know of my absolute disdain for Prog Rock, so my hatred of this album, which seems to have started the whole thing, is immeasurable.
Art is subjective, and some people love this stuff. Me? Not so much. The first two songs make sense to me. The others sound like they are the soundtrack to a western or kung fu movie. The last 6 minutes of moonchild sounds like they forgot to hit stop on the recorder and the band is just noodling on their instruments. This is art that I don’t get, but I’m fine with other people liking it… not around me. 🤣

I knew I wouldn't like this when I saw 8 songs in 67 minutes and I was correct. Flute and triangle solos? WTF?? I'm not even sure what genre of music you consider this shit......... Just terrible.
