funky but i wasn't that into it

Did not like. Was bland and repetitive.

On funkkia. Kuitenkin!

It's interesting. Not my typical style but if I was in right mood I could go for it

Only had 1 or 2 songs that I thought were any good. A lot of the songs felt repetitive as well. It might appeal more to people who really like funk, but I wasn't a big fan

nop nop

A must listen, great music

Found this album kind of boring. The music is good, the lyrics leave something to be desired.

Its like if Earth Wind and Fire decided to make a concept album after reading any Ray Bradbury short story Its pretty good, I like it

May be an unfair raring but I just wasn't in the mood for this one

I like funk just like the next person but it gets a little tiresome hearing it announced in practically every track on this record. The funk is more important that the announcement of the funk whilst also playing the funk. This record was OK. But at least I now know where Dr. Dre pulled the same for his track "Let Me Ride."

It was ok. Not my bag.

The funk doesn’t trigger me to move. It’s too slow and there’s too much MC’ing.

I kinda felt like they are singing one line over and over again in every song. That was annoing.

I liked this record a little less than done of the others kind of felt like this one had less direction. Less of a hook.

Listening to this album was interesting because it's amazing how many classic or iconic songs pulled and sampled the ideas of these here. The tracks themselves were smooth and funky. I do wish a lot of the tracks didn't have what amounts to spoken interludes and skits *within* the tracks themselves. Before or after sure, but when an interlude is throughout or just in the middle of the track, it kind of kills the replayability for me. Regardless, a fun listen, though not much I'd put on repeat.

Give up the Funk is good; the rest gets a little boring after awhile. I'm not that into funk in general.

not terrible but I'm not a funk fan

just not my style. i liked the start of the first song then kind of lost interest. not bad just not for me.

Fun and funky but also boring

funk très répétitif. j'avais l'impression d'écouter la même chanson tout le long. not impress 4/10

A little funk goes a long way. Give Up the Funk is a classic.

A little too funky/disco like for me, but I can understand it’s a concept album. Probably not something I’d choose to listen to again, but got all the vibes when Give Up The Funk came on! Totally brought me back to the Guardians Of the Galaxy ride at Disneyland! Listen again: maybe Purchase for my collection: no Favourite Song: Give Up The Funk

Didn't love this one

Funkin’ funky. I only listened to a few songs and it’s exactly what in expect from this band and an album called Mothership Connection.

Thighte Band Coole Furzbässe Boots Collins George Clinton

funky, aber repititiv. plus komsiche Geräusche

Funky. In some places, nothing seems to be happening at all. The noises during the Supergroove song are pretty bad. It's not really my thing, wouldn't listen again. 2 / 5 stars.

A little funk-light for my liking. Possibly the greatest cover ever though.

Sick album cover though

Cheesier than a Wisconsinite's head at Lambeau Field.

Nothing special, pretty boring

It could have been a 3 if the songs didn't outlast their welcome almost every time. Sometimes, you just gotta send the song.

3 Surprisingly boring 2

I didn't like funk before and I don't like it now :(

Get the funk out of here with that funky music. I think I just don't like funky music.

This sounds like some great musicians had too much time on their hands so just noodled around in a studio for a while. It doesn't really do much or go anywhere, there isn't much variety. I know this band is full of awesome, but none of it is on show here.

Do they want to get funked up or to give up the funk? MAKE UP YOUR MINDS.

Very funky and trying to be futuristic with synths. Nothing stood out to me, though.

eeeeh. funk but weirdly funky

Funky soul music, quite the combination now that I think about it. Did I like it? Not really

Its funk, i dont like funk

Not really my type of music.

Ekki fyrir mig

Not my kind of music but it was ok.

Just not a psychedelic funk fan....

Funk, on whole new level.

Not offensive but not for me

Too funky. I can't take this much funk at this hour of the lord. Listening to funk while you have a cold is just rubbing it in. Sorry man, I can't funk, I'm dyin' over here. Maybe next time.

70-talsfunk.

There was one song with an annoying whiny thing the whole time. It was a good vibe though.

Meh as hell, just not into funk I reckon, especially not p-funk like this. The same thing for 40 minutes basically...

Not for me

Just another funk album. Love a good funky tune, but for nearly forty minutes? No thanks.

2/5 funky, but not my taste

Didn't find this interesting at all, I don't think it has any redeeming qualities either.

Missing the experimentation and energy of their other LPs. Most songs tend to beat an already dated melody to death over the course of 4-5 minutes, and even those that shine pale in comparison to the tracks this band can knowingly produce.

not my cup of tea

Not really something I look for. Seemed disjointed

Nice basslines but funk isn’t my fav

too much funkey monkey

Not my thing

Funky stuff. 2.75

2/5 - Album seems to be a collection of just ad-libbing with songs that never progress beyond the initial build up! Give Up The Funk - only song I'd heard before but then doesn't progress in nearly 5 minutes! Not my thing. Quite dated too.

Funk soul brother

Not really my cuppa tea...maybe good in 70/80's

Better than I was expecting, but I just don't like funk all that much.

Hiiiiiiiiiigh 70’s funk reminding me of jive talkin’ on Airplane

Probably would have got into it more sat outside a cool bar in the sunshine. Not so much washing up during winter.

I know that Mothership Connection is considered a classic funk record, but I beg to disagree. The first two tracks are ruined by overbearing Starchild raps, horrid synth patches, and wretched vocals. That's already 14 minutes shot out of a 38-minute album. Fortunately, things improve after that. Starchild's raps get less ubiquitous, and the synth patches and vocals markedly improve. It's a shame because the bass playing and the horn charts are tasty throughout. Unfunky UFO and Handcuffs are both downright funky. Ugh. Here we go again. The otherwise effective Give Up The Funk (Tear the Roof Off The Sucker) is spoiled by a wretched synth patch. It's a shame because the performance is full of energy and the arrangement is creative, especially that killer bassline and the propulsive drums. The otherwise fine closing track, Night of the Thumpasaurus Peoples, is marred by substandard vocals. I understand the horrid synths. Many an otherwise fine funk record was ruined that way in the mid-70s. For some reason, artists who should have known better actually seemed to like thin, metallic synth patches. But the vocals? There's no excuse for that. The decade was chocoblock with fantastic R&B vocalists. I think George Clinton made the deliberate decision to avoid slick R&B vocals in favor of rough vocals and unision singalongs to promote a party atmosphere. Commercially, it was a masterstroke. Artistically, it sucks balls. 2/5

Enjoyable to listen to and very funky, but not something I think I would return to. A little repetitive, but fun nonetheless Saved: Give Up The Funk

Music was good but the lyrics didn’t flow with the music

Not a huge fan. Just didn't quite work for me. Actually thought I would like this more.

I did not love it. Seemed repetetive.

Pretty fun and definitely one to remember but I won’t be coming back to it a ton

I was really looking forward to discovering some gems here because I like some good ol' soul and funk but I found this boring and repetitive and not very imaginative. I mean they probably say the "F" word on this record more times than the other "F" word was uttered in the movie Scarface. George Clinton should have done better.

Zu viel Funk zu wenig Fun. - 2

2.5 - overall enjoyable. does get quite repetitive and all the songs seems pretty much the same. lyrics are funny, though.

Average

This is definitely not my cup of tea. I usually enjoy funk & soul but this just didn't take itself seriously enough for me. A ton of repetition both lyrically and musically that made each song feel very samey and kinda' boring.

I gave this a few listens, and while I do appreciate the funky, groovy vibe of a lot of these songs, this just isn't something I would want to listen to again.

This album is stupid

Not for me

Lidt for funky til mig. Sjov linje at solbriller skulle være lovkrav

No me gusto

y of theh greatest ever

I would rather throw my earbuds into traffic than listen to funk. If you like funk, this seems like a fun album for you. Sadly, I am not that person as I understand why Van Gogh cut off an ear.

Mmh...

Songs are all ages long, not really my style of music but not bad, 2/10

Very random vibes. It original, but not my style.

There are people who like funk. And I'm not one of them.

I never got into funk music and this album keeps me away from it. Found it bit boring, chorus are too repetitive and tiring. Gotta be honest, I skipped the last song, so damn boring.

Nah. After Maggot Brain which I loved I had expectations for this one. But if Maggot Brain was everything I could love about Funk, this one is everything I hate about it. Yeah, musicianship is good, but litterally it's similar annoying vamps. Sounds like a Donna Summers record to me. Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication had one riff that I liked.

This album feels like people having a lot of fun... except for me. Before giving any opinion about it, I want to give some context. I listened to this record many times while being stuck in a car for several hours, so this may have a big impact about how I feel about, even though, I also listened to my favourite music and still love it. With that being said, let's jump right into the review: I find it to be very uninteresting and boring... The first song starts with a nice hook, but then you have 3 to 4 minutes of anything until coming back to the original hook. It should feel rewarding but I don't think it works as a good climax. The second song has a basic melody that is repited through the vast majority of the track, which I didn't like, and the other elements also didn't contribute anything to me, so the song also was a no for me, except for the last minute, which has a change of beat and it becomes slower, and I did appreciate that part. 'Unfunky UFO' is the first one that I liked. The vocals have a lot of attitude and a great funky beat. Both bring the energy I was wishing for this album. The fourth song falls back into the uninteresting category. Not the most cacthy beat and super repetitive vocals. At least, it has some pauses. If it didn't, it would be unbearable. The next song rises the bar a little bit with some nice vocal and horns performance, and chord progressions, but it stills feels a bit repetitive towards the end. Following the last song, comes the nomination for the most annoying one. I can't stand the chorus repeating 'We want the Funk. Give up the funk' through the whole song. At least the last track sounds a bit funny with the synths sounding like farts and the cave man type of vocals. When deciding what score to give this album, I had to take in mind that this might be one of the worst experiences I had with this list, so that's why I'm giving 1 star. Maybe in the future, if I return to it, I will have a greater experience.

Providing me with more 70’s music is a guaranteed way to improve my day. __ Kinda disappointed. While I like the sound, it’s repetitive after the third track. Nothing particularly stood out to me but I can’t really deny that it is a vibe. If you’re after a very stereotypically 70’s sounding album to have on in the background, this would be a solid choice but it’s not an album I would actively listen to for fun.

it's not bad-bad, but i didn't really enjoy it, didn't listen to the whole album and won't listen to it again

I get the important message behind it but I simply do not like funk. Plus more saxophone noodling. Felt like getting Mr Blobby to read The Emancipation Proclamation.

I don't believe in aliens.

Terrible, ts pmo frfr

Kjedelig

Kjedelig

Just phenomenally irritating.

Not my funky cup of tea.

I did not enjoy this album. Not at all.

Ngl ts so mid

Not the vibe and songs are too long

Not for me. 1/5

Grausiges Funky gequietschte. Leider Meilen weit von Night Fever entfernt. Zum Glück gibt es die funkige Skiptaste.

I like to think that I am open-minded but I feel like this was particularly uninteresting as far as funk goes.

Nö, schon wieder nichts für mich!

Too funky. Too dancey. A product of its time. Definitely not going in my collection.

First couple songs were cool then just got funky af

Extremely repetitive. Every fourth word is "funk". We get it. You do funk music. Don't have to beat us over the head with it. Best song: Handcuffs

Motherfuck disconnection 1/5 26/8/24

Liked Song Give Up The Funk

Classic riffs . Amusing premise.

Not for me.

1. p funk - 1 2. motherzhip connection - 1 3. ufo - 0 4. bumpz bumpz - 5. handcuffz - 0 6. give up the funk - 1 7. peoplez - 0

Turns out I'm not a funk fan. It seemed like a lot of the times they were saying funk, they were really wanting to say fuck. So, I'm not a fan of the album, but it's personal taste.

yeah, no.

Did you know this is a funk album? Just thought I'd mention that just in case you didn't pick up on it from the lyrics where it feels like every other work is "funk", seriously can they talk about fucking anything else other than goddamn funk? Oh yes, they can. The last song is just a bunch of grown men constantly repeating "gagagooga". Who knew babies could have such deep voices. Anyway, insufferable lyrics aside, let's talk about the actual music. This is where I am very conflicted. I know that it's not *bad*, it's just that I've never been a fan of this genre, so an entire album of pure funk with very little diversity is not something I at all enjoyed listening to. Outside of a disco in the 70s, I really don't see myself enjoying this album in any other context, which just makes me so glad that this type of music died decades ago.

funk???.

Terrible.

Meh... not my style

Didn’t like

Funk mag ich nicht

Not for me

She's So Unusual

Lots of noise, not a lot of music.

I could dance to this, ironically, for a song or two. Not my thing.

Not my vibe

Uh nope.

Funk really doesn’t seem to be my thing Top Tracks: 1) Supergroovalisticprosifunktication 2) Give Up the Funk

Not really a fan of this old 70s funk but I’m sure it was hype in its time.

Bråkerock, syns bare det var støy

Funk :( I'm getting nothing but repetition and not much in the way of hooks. It's just not for me

Not for me. I can't even listen through the album.

First two songs are pure filler. Extremely corny instrumentals/sound effects/skits. Great vocals but not used efficiently. Occasionally there was a nice jazzy instrumental but most of it sucked.

So tedious, struggled, and stop narrating your own record

Schrecklich wissenschaftliche 0.342

Give me something I can listen please

Was soll das?
