What a way to close out your discography! (We don't mention the other ones). Easily my second favorite Doors album behind their debut. It is really sad that Jim Morrison died after this album, because I think this album has some of their best song writing and I would have loved to see where they would have taken this sound. There are a couple of songs near the end that I am not super crazy about (but still enjoy), but besides those this album is very fun to sing along to and just have a good time. Also if you don't like the "Mr. Mojo rising" section you should question what you are doing. Mid 5.
very nice
Very good, didn’t realize Jim Morrison had such a blues voice. Remember to watch the movie.
Classic Doors.
Sure, it's The Doors. Sure, it's got Riders On The Storm on it. Is it the best Doors album? No. Is it a five star album? Yes.
I couldn't do 3.5 hours, so just listened to the 10 songs from the original album. Loved it! 5/5
For my money the Doors may be the most underrated band from the classic rock era. I love this album from start to finish. https://open.substack.com/pub/richcain/p/project-1001-la-woman-by-the-doors?r=4ztyq&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
As a girl who had a the Doors phase when she was 15 and even wrote a book that was heavily influenced by them. I can only give them 5stars.
A defining album with strong songs and strong performance
Great! Shoutout to my GF for giftin it to me on wax. Probably my fav doors album. Favourite Line: "If they say I never loved you You know they are a liar" Riders on the storm x snoop dogg for nfs even went hard lmaooo 5.0/5.0 def one of my jams
Possibly the best Doors album. And the last with the Lizard King still alive.
This album lived on repeat in my head as a teenager. I always wanted to be Jim Morrison. I had a hair to match. Great from start to end
Their peak - grizzled, nearly burnt out, but swinging the blues. Great music to drive to, especially
one of my fav
Snake attack
riders on the storm is a perfect song, what a choice to end the album with it
One of the all time greats still as good as the first time I hear it
Another one of my favorites from The Doors. “Love Her Madly,” “L.A Woman” and “Riders On The Storm” are all essentials to the discography but really this whole album has some of their more genre pushing almost prog sounding songs like “The Changeling,” “L’America,” “Hyacinth House” and “The WASP”. The rest of the songs maintain The Doors’ love affair with the blues. Hard to give this one anything less than a 5 for me.
Several quintessential Doors songs here, but the ones I'm less familiar with are just as solid, as Jim and the band let the spirit of blues and American myth and ethos inhabit them and transform into something creative and spiritual that flows effortlessly.
I'm a sucker for The Doors man. Another banger from them. L'America, The Wasp, L.A Woman, Love Her Madly....all great driving songs. Riders On The Storm is simply next level creativity that takes you on a journey. Take another bow gents.
I spent a lot of time over the course of this album thinking about the myth and legacy of The Doors. Which is really to say, "the myth and legacy of Jim Morrison," 'coz even though the band released a few more albums after Morrison passed... They don't count. Not really. Which isn't to discount the rest of the members, but that's besides the point. If there's one thing I remember hearing about The Doors, more than anything, it's that they were pretentious. That, y'know, Jim Morrison was some stuck-up, head-in-his-ass, "sensitive poet laureate," and that made The Doors's music incredibly lame and wince-y. That's certainly how the band's biopic (the one where Val Kilmer played Morrison) put it. And as much as I'd wanna proclaim that I'm a free thinker who doesn't fall into accepting public opinion like that, I feel like I still kind of did? 'Coz even as I enjoyed a lot of Doors music (mostly their hits), there was always this thought in the back of my head that if I dug any further, I'd uncover those pretentions everyone was talking about. The poems and whatnot. So besides a greatest hits compilation album, I never really did go any further than "Touch Me" and "Break On Through" and, at most, "The End". This is another album where I hafta thank Abigail Devoe for helping me find a better way to think about this stuff. See, Jim Morrison was a fat kid. He loved poetry. His father was a Navy man. His birth name was James Bouglas Morrison. He wasn't cool — he was kind of a square, actually. And, sure, he might have slimmed down by the time The Doors recorded their first album, but... Well, at heart, he was still that same fat kid. That slim appearance was never going to last. Just check out how much he still liked blueberry pancakes. So, instead of viewing Morrison as some big, important, up-his-arse poet, I took to him more as, y'know: a nerd. One who still wanted to be a serious poet — and he was one; he wasn't buried in Père Lachaise for nothing — but who probably wasn't **as** much of a jerk as the biopic made him out to be. (Though he might've still been one, I'unno.) And while I'm sure I still would've enjoyed this album either way, viewing this album through that framework did a **lot** for me. Heck, for one, it helped me accept and like The Doors' blues tunes a lot more. I wasn't so hot on them when I heard MORRISON HOTEL, and for all I know maybe the ones here are just better, but I really dug what I heard. Of course it's nothing like what you'd get from the traditional blues masters, but, damn, you put Ray Manzerik's keys on just about anything... And, oof, boy, Morrison's voice. It's **really** good on this stuff. Then there's the lyrics and poetry. As per usual, I didn't take them in as well as everything else. I'm "melody first," let's remember. But let me tell you, accepting the fact that the poetry was here, like... Just because he wanted his poetry to be put to music, I was actually able to take it more seriously than if "taking it seriously" was the expectation to begin with. I still probably didn't get much out of it, 'coz I'm bad at deciphering poetry, but, hey, still. That's better than I figured I would've done before. I actually **liked** "The WASP". I also wanna specifically spotlight "Riders On The Storm", the album's closer. For my money, this is the best song here — big shock I pick the song most people regularly consider the best on the album, I know. But, y'know, I think it's the best because, in my eyes, it's to The Doors what "The Show Must Go On" was to Queen. Of course, it's not a 1:1 comparison (the rest of the Doors didn't know that Jim didn't have much longer), but as the songs that ended up being the final songs on their respective final albums... I really can't think of better songs for them to end on. "Riders On The Storm" is the ultimate culmination of everything The Doors had done, and listening to it this time, I couldn't help but imagine this cinematic shot of Morrison riding off down a desert road, trailed by snakes and desert lizards. Which is maybe a bit too reverent of an image for how I now perceive him, but it's just what came to mind. (Also, shout out to "Hyacinth House"; I might honestly pick that as my favorite "deep cut.") I really think I understand and appreciate The Doors and their music a lot better than I used to. I'll tell you for sure, before I gained the new frame I did, I would've enjoyed this album, but at best it would've been a good 4, elevated to such by the presence of "Riders On The Storm". But coming out of this listen... Yeah, damn, it's a 5. It's a good-ass 5. The Doors were way more than the psychedelics and pretentious I'd originally pegged them with. Really, the only complaint I can think to have is the same one Abby had: that the title track should've been the opener. Seriously, just put it there in front of "The Changeling" and don't do anything else and it's perfect. But, yeah. Morrison, like every other member of the unfortunate club way too many are a part of, deserved to live longer. To have had a chance to play revisionist with his own history instead of the people like those who made his band's biopic. But as unfortunate and tragic as his passing was... Damn, if he and the rest of the band didn't leave a damn good musical legacy, and one hell of an album to close their book on. (Again, ignoring the ones the band released after Morrison passed; they don't count.)
Once again, The Doors show why they're one of the greatest groups of the 60's and 70's. Solid 5 Stars.
I’m at a 4.5 that I’ll bump up to a 5. That’s just a great album. I don’t really know quite what to say – it’s not the most technically sound, even though the band is on fire for most of it (save for the rather dull Been Down So Long). It’s not the most well written, even though there’s some great lines on here. It’s just an album that oozes charisma from top to bottom, and that charisma creates an undeniable confidence that makes for a pretty damn good 48 minutes. I do think a few tracks are a little too long, and a few tracks aren’t super captivating, but when the album hits those points, it’s still a really smooth listen that eventually pulls you back in. I will say this – I genuinely don’t think I liked it as much as Morrison Hotel. I don’t know if that’s sacrilege, but I think that album just had a greater variance of styles and slightly tighter composition for my tastes. Seriously, I got nothing. It’s got good blues, good rock, some strong vocals, and it’s 48 minutes that fly by (save for a few longer spots). I’m at a 4.5 that I’ll bump up to a 5 because I just enjoyed it that much. Sometimes, you don’t have to justify it. I liked it.
I was introduced to The Doors by a friend at 19 and this was always one of my favourite albums by them for the strong blues element. Some music I listened to a lot as a student are hard to go back to now (too close to old emotions) but not The Doors.
I found every song interesting and i liked almost every song on it on Spotify.
Classic that belongs a lot higher than this.
Brilliant
Shoutout to Ray Manazarek the greatest keyboardist in the history of rock.
A perfect album with some of the most mythical lyrics of Jim and some perfect songs, like L.A. Woman
Eén van hun beste albums, heerlijk ruw. Beetje tragisch, want je hoort wel dat Morrison misschien een beetje te veel aan bepaalde substanties zat.
That should have been ME sucking Jim Morrison off in the recording booth
Fantastic rock album. Love all the details in the back of the music. 5/5
BEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME
Mr Mojo rising. Excellent
One of my top 100- my favorite Doors album, hands down. This is the album that finally made me understand this band. It was not Jim Morrison and The Doors, it had always been The Doors with Jim. The musicality and song structure mixed with his spacey poetry are at their peak here. Sure, there’s other good records and other great, even better, songs but no other album is this cohesive. And for bonus points if you want to really get them- watch Oliver Stones The Doors. Great cast, incredible acting (Val Kilmer does all the vocals live and spot on) and an entertaining look at Jim. Also of note, the single greatest “Yeah” in all of rock and roll history occurs in the middle of the song LA Woman. Mmmmmmmmm…yeeaaaahhhhhhh
I have loved Doors the decades but never heard this album. Love it.
Solid rock by the Doors
My number one album of all time . . . . (probably)
Another 5er. Such a good run of tracks. 5/5
Love whammy bar use of the bat song 1. The 2nd needs murph on the keys. Overall flow and vibes 10/10. I am head bopping for sure
One of my favorite records ever. Fav drum fill on the changeling
Classic doors, not a bad song on that album
5 stars
Badass, I have this CD in my car
This is probably a 4.5 star album but because everything better than average gets lumped into 4, I’m going to have to give this 5 to differentiate it. Call it rating inflation. Also I really like The Doors and I’m assuming “The Best of the Doors” isn’t on this list so they should get the five stars somewhere. This has got a good number of classic songs and the album tracks are pretty good too. It’s funny only getting to know the individual albums at this later stage in my life, but there you go.
Their best work, flawless
A favourite album for many years. classics with great interaction of the instruments.
This album along with The Wall and various punk albums got me through the late 80s.
The growly Morrison works as well as the sexy shaman/mad poet frontman, and in fact might be more convincing. Surely he seems a lot older and jaded than his late twenties. This is a masterpiece of vibe and tone – rock as languor, besides being a most apt sonic rendering of how LA feels (or must have felt in the early '70s. Morisson is looser, rougher and freer here – maybe less artily pretentious (editors are right on that point) and the slight tending toward bloat (as on "The Changeling") is well seasoned with seediness. The fine and subtle playing redeems even the slightly ridiculous songs (e.g., the sizzling guitar filigrees and organ riffs on “Crawling King Snake”). The title cut is an all-time classic and “The WASP” is the most poetic (“stoned immaculate” was a line for the ages and “No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn” so, you know, profound). "Hyacinth House" feels like take-it-or-leave-it release, its majesty lightened by an undertone or slightly pyschedelic joy and contentment. "Cars Hiss by the WIndow" is pure Bukowskian glory, and though one's never much loved "Riders," it makes a great (and stately) closer. Manzarek has always seemed the epitome of the pretentous rock star (and just a putz besides) but he really is the key to the sound, adding depth and pomp and glitter, too. But the record works because the playing is so good, and perfectly supports the languid lyrics and bigger-than-life poetic/shamanic front man. Maybe a much hipper and artier Elvis is the right way to think of Morrison. One's enormously enjoyed listening now, decades since one's last hearing, that one no longer feel even the least embarrassed about over-liking them decades ago.
Das ist in jeder Hinsicht ein großartiges Album: sehr gute Produktion, hervorragende Nummern, ein unglaublich gut aufgelegter Jim Morrison mit hervorragenden Musikern. Purer grandioser Bluesrock mit einem psychedelischem Finale: Riders on the Strom. Es ist immer wieder eine große Freude, dieses Album zu hören.
I wish the recording was better but the content is perfect.
What a way to go out, Jim.
Love the sound of Jim Morrison's voice. Now immortalised forever. Culminating in Riders on the storm. Excellent album and deserves its acclaim.
Great
Always a band to split opinion, this is their swan song, with a bloated, out of control Jim Morrison at the helm. Excessive even by 60s standards it’s hard to imagine a band like this could exist in today’s anodyne culture. Personally I love the album. It’s been years since I listened to it and I found the songs have not aged badly. Raw, rootsy, bluesy, a simple production allowing the musical craftsmanship to shine. Of course Morrison steals the limelight but they really were a tight unit and their sum is bigger than their parts. Not a bad track on it.
A unique band that has their own stuff going on. Its poetry with great musical notes as background music. I love this album short and sweet as well as great lyrics. 2 super famous singles but might ne underrated as an album. Although it doesnt have my favorites songs of theirs here this is the best album they released in my opinion.
Show! Discaço
Rad
I love this album and it barely makes it to a 5. There are some tracks that haven’t aged quite as well but most are really fantastic and overall I think this is probably the best The Doors album and one of the best of these ‘trippy’ rock records. I agree with the book blurb that this is the best, coolest version of Jim Morrison and actually of the band. And sonically this album also sounds great, recorded with great care and subtlety, and with outstanding performances.
A great album. I took the opportunity to listen to it again in its entirety. Not only LA Woman and Riders on the Storm are remarkable. The other tracks are also great. 5/5
Most of this album is a perfect soundtrack for a sunny summer day somewhere in California, coasting along the highway and stopping off at roadside bars and blues joints. Too bad I’m here in Wales during an unseasonable cold and rainy summer. It’s the first of July, why the fuck am I sitting in a jumper and a blanket?
wat een top album,gekke JIM
Mister Mojo Risin' En waar is snoop Dogg bij de laatste track??
I really liked the blues sound in this record
A lot of good groundbreaking stuff on here.
That was amazing ! 5 stars
This is one of the greatest final albums by any band. The Doors were such a great band. Morrison gets a lot of the attention, but the musicianship and songs are too notch. An easy 5 stars. Mr Mojo Risin'.
9/10. Was leaning 8 to start but I kept adding songs to the playlist throughout. I like that they seem to have inspiration from a variety of genres.
True classic
Love it
brilliant
I bought this album in a time when internet was not readily available to me. The reason to buy it was because I had heard good things about the doors. I hated this because I was not ready for it. After revisiting it a couple years later I fell in love with the album and the doors never understanding how I hated it before. 5/5
Finally some good fucking food
Classic with plenty of bangers!
Incredible! 10/10
Classic Doors… losing Jim Morrison so young was such a loss that we’ll Never know what they could’ve become, sadly…
Great Doors album with some all-timers.
I knew the majority of these tracks and I was towards 3/5 until "Crawling king snake" came out.... what a song! Made me change it to 5/5
Yep yep yep. So damn good.
starts slow but picks up and just keeps getting better
The Doors, The Beatles, Pink Floyd... certain bands are part of the musical canon of the 20th century and always will be. If one stops and considers time and place AND the natural abilities of these people it becomes truly remarkable and sensible that they remain so beloved. The Doors must have blown peoples minds when this came out. Of course it would be controversiial, it is almost brutal in its openness. But wow, thiis really truly is a corker!
So damn cool. Amazing, amazing jams here. I don't really care for blues-heavy rock, but this is great. Major fan. Psychedelic in all the right ways.
Bluuuueeesss
Bluesy psychedelic rock. I am so into this sound. It's slightly off kilter and raw and dark. Full of poetic imagery and eerie lyrics, and packed to the brim with blues, there is also a lot more to be seen in this album, there's acid rock, even some poppier sounds, and tons of jazz influence all throughout. I loved the longer songs on this album, which I wasn't quite expecting but I was enthralled the whole time. Morrison's voice is all powerful all the time, I can not overstate how commanding a voice he has on this album. Guitar solos and riffs are on point, drums are groovin, and I just love the keyboard on this album. There were times it maybe got to be a bit much but overall I loved it. The length of this album was just right, not too long and not too short. This album is pretty full of great tracks, and maybe a couple I am not to keen on, but all in all this album was killer and was surprised to love it. Would love to revisit, maybe on a Doors discog run. 4.5/5
Classic album! Great vocals and instrumentals!
Great album. The best Doors album
Love every track :)
This album is so unexpectedly excellent in the best way
May be my favorite of the Doors. The music holds up, and even sounds experimental despite being largely straight blues.
la woman und riders of the storm daphne auf dem österberg sturm abends
The best and last album from the Doors. Such beautiful songs.
Love this album, love The Doors. Love the bluesy overtones of the album. L.A. Woman is one of the best songs to drive to. Been Down So Long you can hear and smell the cigarettes and whiskey gravelling Jim's voice. Riders on the Storm is a whole scene.
You gotta hand it to the Doors for truly doing their own thing. Love how this album melds blues, psychedelia, and pure creativity
Still a classic. You can hear the raspy weariness in Jim Morrison's vocals, made all the more poignant by the knowledge that he wouldn't live very long after it was recorded.
Undeniably good. Possibly my favorite Doors album. Always a trip.
My favorite doors album. And the first one I bought. This is such a great album from beginning to end. Jim Morrison at his absolute best before he went off the deep end.
Good sound. Great album! Favorite songs: - All of them
I have the original vinyl frommydad
Some of the tunes didn't hold up well for me, but there is enough on this album to ensure a spot in the tops of all time. Riders itself is enough to support legend status.
Classic
Classic
The blues heavy influence is apparent. Great album.
Bluesy, eerie, with a dash of psychedelia. The ideal twilight zone.
A much more well-rounded and well-realised album than other The Doors records. It's solid and consistent throughout, but ending with "Riders on the Storm" elevates everything that comes before it.
Klasyczna, ponadczasowa płyta. Dużo utworów, które zapadają w pamięć. Nawet taki rockowy laik jak ja potrafi docenić klasykę. 5/5
Love it
scored high mostly for nostalgic reasons
OK LOVE OBVIOUSLY
Love Morrison's voice. Some big hits on here. Other songs are pretty listenable mostly.
I give the album a 10/10 for its great use of diverse instruments, and the vocal work is just masterful. This album is just timeless.
I listened to this album many times. The Doors were an amazing group
I adore the production on this album. It's warm, bluesy, and gives a soft jazz bar vibe. Morrison's vocal is noticeably more gravelly and mature than on the Doors' debut, but still equally strong. The compositions are strongly rooted in blues, and the band remains loyal to the genre while providing a selection of excellent, catchy compositions. The instrumentation is near perfect, suiting every song fairly well without being overly showy. The energetic-yet-simplistic piano in the title track is a good example of this; the consistent, laid-back synergy of the rhythm and bass guitars is another. (Virtuosity works in some genres, but generally not this one.) Also, it's a (somewhat) rare album where the hits, according to Spotify listens, match up with my favourite tracks: Love Her Madly, L.A. Woman, and Riders on the Storm. Finally, it's the friggin' Doors. Wooooooooo. 5/5
Arguably the Doors best album, it’s a classic with no bad songs and some truly great ones.
Densore, Krieger, and Manzarek with some weird spoken word dude on vocals. Pretty obscure, surprised to see this on the list considering how underground this band was. Wonder what ever happened to them. Seems like they just stopped releasing stuff after a while. One note: I never realized (or forgot) how incredible Robby Krieger. Really amazing, in all seriousness.
Great album! I had not realized how blues oriented they were! Very cool.
Perfect Doors.
Very cool album!
Ремек дело
Great album-one of my favorites!!!
god
Great
Absolute classic by one of the greatest bands ever
Listen this: 26/01/2024
Surprising 5/5. Usually don't care for them too much. I like the band more than Morrison's vocals and lyrics at times, but would listen again.
Wundervoll
A great album with some fantastic tracks including "Love Her Madly", "L.A. Woman", "The WASP (Texas Radio and the Big Beat)", the bluesy "Been Down So Long" and "Cars Hiss by My Window", plus the atmospheric "Riders on the Storm".
A pretty awesome blues album with the inimitable classic "Riders on the Storm" as absolute icing on the cake. Gets better with each listen!
This album is in my library and has been played often. Not bummed to be assigned another album from the Doors.
So moody and bluesy you can practically smell the smoke, whiskey, and sweat. For a band that famously has no bass player, the bass on this album is surprisingly prominent in the mix. Really great.
The Doors have always been one of those groups that I liked well enough but never felt the intense allure a lot of my friends had for them over the years. I put this on as my transcontinental flight lifted off ready to be whelmed, and promptly fell asleep. A bit later my dreams were flooded with intense funky piano that would do Jo Ann Castle proud. As I bounced myself awake L.A. Woman was dancing in my head. Where did this come from?! Holy shit this is transcendent stuff! Two more listens on that flight and even the songs I’ve heard a thousand and three times revealed new dimensions. One of my favorite listening experiences on this project. What a difference 31,000 feet makes!
The band of my youth. I loved them (and still do).
Excellent!
I love the doors! I listened to this multiple times today and loved it each and every time! Not every track is perfect, and it’s not my fave album of theirs but it’s still pretty solid and has some excellent songs. I love the rock/bluesy chord progressions, and even through synth sometimes irritates me it just works here and is so good! Moody and raw, you can feel Jim Morrison’s decline through some of the songs. What a voice! So hot Fave track: Love her madly
Loved it when it came out in 1971.
I love this album
Excellent!
Classic
A great one
One of the greatest rock groups. New fav song Car hiss by my window.
Great album!!! Doors had such a cool and creepy sound on some of the tracks.
Have to give fivestars for that keyboard / organ.
My favorite Doors album by far. So back to form with a hardcore blues record.
very different from what i was expecting, even if im not sure what i was expecting. very bluesy in parts, some funk, progressive rock, lots of keys. the creation of atmosphere is also outstanding. especially on "riders of the storm" or "l'america". not a fan of the latter but point still stands. "Cars Hiss by my window" is my standout. can imagine just putting it on and getting lost.
Brilliant album from a brilliant band. I absolutely love the way they treat the blues in their music. Cannot get enough of it. Favorite track: Been down so Long
fav doors album (jedini koji sam cuo ceo)
Absolute treasure of an album.
Nice
Amazing. Love the keys
Now that's a good album! I already had it on vinyl so I knew it was amazing. The WASP is so good, all the keyboard and guitar solos 😁
I’m very very familiar with four of the songs on the album but hadn’t ever listened to the rest and man.. when you put them all together it really does sound like a suicide album. A very strong and fun album but absolutely a Final Album. I imagine people might like this album less than I did if they’re not as into blues. The first side is definitely weaker than the second half, and the album would definitely be a 4.5 instead of a 5 if that were an option here. But songs like Hyacinth House and Been Down So Long and even Cars Hiss By My Window stood out in addition to the four that are already some of my favorite songs of all time so. I had no choice but to go with five stars here. The band is firing on all cylinders (not just organ, although Ray Manzarek kills it as always), the album sound is cohesive, Morrison sounds great, and some of these lyrics are so important to me that I can’t even joke about them. “The WASP (Texas Radio and the Big Beat)” changed my life in high school. So glad this album came up on the generator and I finally checked it out as a whole!!
Ça doit être mon album des Doors préférés. Changelings, LA Woman, Hyacinth House et tu finis avec Riders! Chefs kiss
Super good !
Highlights: The Changeling, Been Down So Long, L'America, Riders On The Storm
👍🏼
cool
Love it. Bluesy rock tickles my ears. More bands should have a mean organ.
Impressions: One of The Doors' perfect albums! Favorite tracks: The Changeling, Cars Hiss By My Window, LA Woman, Riders on the Storm Rating: 5/5
Probably like 4.75 since I prefer their eponymous album but it's still fucking cracking music.
The Doors were a bit before my era of growing up with the current music, but I was always drawn to their sound, which is something that has stayed ingrained with me my whole life. I bought this album on vinyl in 1983, some 12 years after the original release, and literally played it on repeat every night. I still have that album, with all its battle scar scratches from drunken nights and sticking on my default vibes. Their sound is unmistakable, with the growled lyrics from the late Jim Morris on.
Amazing album.
just for Riders on the Storm....
I love The Doors. Sadly the last album Jim recorded. It's good blues-rock and starts out with a heavy dose of Ray in organ.
just totally in a league and style all of their own
Catchy classic
classic, raspy and psychedelic
yummmmm. loved this album when I discovered it in my mid twenties while living in Moranbah. Love the organ in this one.
It's real good, a few songs on it aren't so good (Been down so Long, and Car Hiss) but the rest makes up for it. Will I listen to again: 100%
Love the blues influence on this album. Jim Morrison’s voice is the best.
The Doors is by far one of the best bands in the world. This album, omfg!! All incredible songs but Riders on the Storm WOAH what an amazing song. Huge fan, great album
The Doors are one of the best bands ever, and this album is Exhibit A.
Very great for fall/autumn season. Songs I would include on a morning playlist or for a hammock on a crisp day
One of my first albums. It shifted my taste from the Monkees to great rock and roll.
Great album, very bluesy.
Great Album. Songs I like all of them 5/5
Safe to say, our first 5-star album. The Doors' self titled album is one of my all-time favorite psychedelic records, and this one continues their winning streak. Right from the get-go, "The Changeling" grabs my attention with its bass riff, and never lets go. "Love Her Madly" is another highlight with a kind of funky atmosphere. A bluesy track "Cars Hiss By My Window" is followed by a flamboyant and fun title track, which begins with a distorted segment of the British National Anthem weirdly enough. "L'America" and "The WASP" continue the psychedelic blues jammin', and "Hyacinth House" is one of my favorites with a beautiful melody line and magnificent organ solo in the halfway mark. And the final track, "Riders on the Storm" might be the greatest Doors jam ever, with that legendary Ray Manzarek keyboard solo. All in all, a near-perfect work and something that might become my favorite Doors album after a few relistens. Great one!
Absolute classic.

It’s no wonder this album contains some of The Doors’ best love songs, since La Woman is obviously “the woman” in Spanish. Well executed jokes aside, L.A. Woman is perhaps the greatest blues record ever. It initially took me some time getting into The Doors, but then it hit like a sledgehammer. The entire Side A is a piece of perfection and while Side B is not as good, songs like “L’America” and especially the legendary closing track is something to behold.
Their best album. "Been down so Long" >> "Love Her Madly", by the way. I love Jim's opening, growled / shouted lyrics on that song.
Never listened to the whole album before, it's fantastic. My favorite Doors album for sure, getting back to their roots.
Such a nice album. Doors just Rock.
Заключительный аккорд Мориссона, мешающих хаос вокруг со своим авангардом
"Love You Madly" is probably my favorite Doors song and is up there on my list of favorite songs ever. As an album, L.A. Woman is pretty solid. Some great rock tracks and then some weird ass songs that are indicative of The Doors and lots of other bands around this time. Pretty great album top to bottom.
A cohesive statement from the legendary rock band featuring iconic songs and layered production. There’s still nothing quite like them - driven by Ray Manzarek’s keyboard and Jim Morrison’s growling vocals.
I mean…it’s The Doors, man. Are you gonna tell me it’s bad? It’s about as straight forward as rock n roll gets. You already know the big tracks here. I don’t need to tell you that Riders on the Storm is iconic, or that Ray Manzarek’s organ work holds the whole thing together (not just on this album but their whole discography). But does it hold up? Do I like this album the way I should? Eeehhhhhh…yes.
This was the 6th album released from 67-71, that's quite insane and a bit different from the first. This one takes a bit more digest than the others as others. Outside of the 3 big hits you still have great songs like Changeling, Been down so long and of the course the absolute amazing WASP. However there's a few songs that are just ok, Hyacinth house for instance. It's like a 4.75 album.
This made me like The Doors. A subdued Heroin fog of an album.
I have always loved this album. "riders on the storm" is one of the best songs ever written, the bass line creates a structure for the piano to travel around. Jim Morrison's voice keeps the album hypnotic in songs like "Love Her Madly"
One of all time favorites.
My dad being a massive Doors fan, I know this album like the back of my hand having listened to it throughout my childhood years. The Changeling is such a booming start to the album and considering the Doors never had a permanent bass player, the bassline is like a mission statement for the album. And of course, the finale of Riders on the Storm is typically epic. Could only be 5 stars
A classic. For good reason.
Listened to this a lot when younger. My dad had it and listened to it a bunch.
Wat een geweldige band! De nummers zijn goed, maar de manier waarop het gespeeld wordt, maakt het album. Jim Morrison klinkt bezeten.
Not much to say here. They went out with their best set.
Awesome front to back with a lot of unique songs. Rating: 4.6
classic album. good for background music while working
Not my favorite Doors album but still great. Bluesy meandering with Morrison giving more of an edgy growl.
From 111 to Sundeck to Gramercy, a bare-chested, arms outstretched Jim Morrison flag served as one of my main wall decorations throughout college. Unbeknownst to me at the time, my dad actually had a nearly identical flag in the eighties, so I’m tempted to believe such behavior is correlated with an underdeveloped frontal lobe and not with our family tree. Either way, I’ve been familiar with LA Woman for 15 years, but the hallmark of a great album is discovering new appreciations regardless of its perceived novelty or lack thereof. “Love Her Madly” is a Doors classic, and sets the bar high for the rest of their final album with Jim Morrison. I’d never given much thought to “Hyacinth House,” but a closer listen reveals that it borrows from both Led Zeppelin and Bob Dylan while retaining the signature psychedelic blues that only the Doors could pull off. While not a staple of the Doors, “Crawling King Snake” is a timeless blues classic, and the different versions of this song show how blues rock has evolved over the decades from John Lee Hooker (1949) to George Thorogood (1985) to the Black Keys (2021). The combination of cryptic lyrics, dark instrumentals, and the sounds of thunder make “Riders on the Storm” the perfect way to end the record. My favorite song on the album, and my favorite Doors song in general, is the title track. For lack of a better word, I have many fond drunken “memories” of singing “LA Woman” on Rockband in the movie room at 3 a.m. after any given night’s shenanigans. The more drunk I was, the more convinced I was that I sounded just like Jim Morrison. My sober guess is that I did not. Before listening to the album this time around I assumed it would be a four, but after listening through a couple of times I developed a new appreciation for the deep tracks and had a welcome reunion with the classics. No doubt about it, Mr. Mojo Risin gets five stars for that.
There's one hell of a blues record hiding behind a few, well-known rock tracks here. I legitimately loved it even though I felt like the victim of a bait-and-switch scam. No complaints, only good vibes. Full marks.
Creo que nunca había escuchado este disco todo entero y seguido. Me encantó. Es de esos discos que descubrí "tarde" y que me gustaron mucho
Is the rating even up to discussion?
Album 112 of 1001 The Doors - L.A. Woman Favorite Track : The WASP Rating : 4 / 5 Great album. Listened through a couple of times today. Nice break from life.
What a God damn album. The Doors do the blues like nobody else, and it's awesome. Favorite track: Been down so Long
I loved The Doors, and I love them so much more now. All of the songs on this album are phenomenal. It's the exact album I needed today. 5/5, glorious, nothing but perfection.
Their first and last albums are their best. This one is consistent top to bottom.
Many bands in the sixties started out as blues bands and moved into a more psychedelic/rock sound, but The Doors did the opposite, and embraced the blues in their final 2 albums. I owned this album in high school and wasn’t into the bluesy sound – that was the music your friends’ older brothers listened to. I’m much more open to it now. Jim Morrison's voice is quite withered from his years of self-abuse, but it works well for these songs. Robby Krieger is awesome and a greatly underrated guitar player, probably due to his lack of lengthy self-indulgent solos. And the two classic tracks become more classic with the passage of time.
Banger
Just excellent and vibey and never has a record been more true to its title. An exercise in artful languor.
Absolutely great album
Sense of longing embodied in music.
As near to perfect as it gets. More songwriters should be poets.
Classic and never realized how bluesy the Doors were
A classic album for sure. Riders on the Storm is just an S tier song but the rest holds up amazingly too.
A classic album! Love it Saved tracks: Been Down So Long, Love Her Madly, L.A. Woman, Crawling King Snake, Riders On The Storm
portas
Loved it! Great performances, interesting take on blues rock jams, Jim is awesome
I grew up on The Doors because they were my mom's favorite group growing up. I know a lot of people think Jim Morrison was hokey and pretentious, but I will never not love them
Released in 1971...makes sense. Clearly the best year for music.
LA Woman is my favourite Doors song, but there's so much more to this album. Coming after Waiting for the Sun and Morrison Hotel which felt laboured at times.
Excellent album
EL MEJOR ÁLBUM LEJOS AAAAA
Fantastic. Grooves, Blues, Gets weird, shreds, tickles, yells...def gets the head bobbing solid start to finish.
The Lizard King goes Jazz The music is so tight on this album The songs are so good, not just the 2 hits, but WASP, L’America and a wonderful nod to John Lee Hooker I loved the direction this album took, so sad it was their last
When it comes to psychedelic rock The Doors are pretty much untouchable in my opinion. Just a fantastic album from start to finish, great rock, amazing blues, love the vocals. Solid 5. TBz 1. Love Her Madly 2. Riders on the Storm 3. L.A. Woman 4. Hyacinth House 5. Crawling King Snake
Genre: Classic rock Review: What a classic. I've always admired The Doors, and listened to their hits a number of times over the years, but to listen to a complete album is to appreciate the work that goes into creating a masterpiece of music. Listening to the final track "Riders on the Storm" on my surround speakers at home was a reminder of just how great The Doors and Jim Morrison were. Rating: Without a doubt, 10/10
Not my first listen.
My faborite álbum.
Ooh, finally I'm getting my favourite Doors album! And it's not like The Doors was a bad album, it's just that I like this one's more bluesy sound (as well as the inclusion of a bass guitar - viva la revolución!). As far as favourite tracks are concerned, I love the title song so much, with its transitions. Riders on the Storm always gets me, too, with its haunting lyrics and atmosphere. It does break my heart that I can order a coffee under the name Mojo Risin and no one blinks anymore, though.
This is one of those truly must listen to albums. It absolutely drips in raw, emotional, blues. It is a prime example of what you'd expect when you hear boomers talk about how great the old music was. It has all the prerequisite ingredients of blues influenced rock of that era, organ, buzzy electric guitar, storytelling lyrics, and classic blues riffs. Scale: 5 - My absolute favorites. 4 - Albums I like. 3 - It was ok to listen to but I wouldn't seek it out. 2 - Didn't like. 1 - Absolute shit.
I've listened to a few Doors albums in full and a hit compilation but I'd never listened to this album. I always am sleeping on the Doors. Plus Riders on the Storm is such a great album close. The deeper cuts on this album really are great and should be more well known. A great album of music.
Best: The Changeling Worst: Hyacinth House Veeeery nice
Heerlijke plaat van The Doors. Bluesy gitaarriffjes, zenuwachtig pianootje af en toe, geweldige ritmesectie die het geheel begeleidt. Poetische zang van Mr Mojo Risin eroverheen. Classic.
Better than anything the Beatles ever made
This has always been a go to for me. I'm not a massive doors fan, but love this album. It's ferocious and primal. Filthy, dangerous beauty.
Morrison’s voice sounds great. Multiple well known classics and one song that I think is really under appreciated—The WASP. Would if a 4.5 if possible but I’ll round up for this one
Need for speed 😎
Amazing
A roaring great time hosted by the Lizard King himself, Jim Morrison, before his untimely death.
I prefer the snoop dogg version of riders on the storm. But this album will have you blues groovin’ all day and night. The keyboardist slaps all the way through
I don’t think there is a bad track on this album. Love it. 4.5/5
Love it madly
i like the combination of fun rock songs and weird blues songs
Riders on the storm banger to end it. Bit slow in the middle
Morrison has one of the most distinctive voices in rock, ever
3 absolutely belters in a row! Another album from my youth which I haven’t listened to in a while, but instantly felt familiar. I think I prefer their self titled album, but this is still an absolute classic. Only downside to listening to this now is I’m at work and not a smokey bar with a whisky…
Had no heard this before but thought it was a fantastic bluesy rock album. So many great tracks, loved it. Highlights were "L.A. Woman", "L'America" and "Riders of the Storm".
I've heard people talk about the doors and thought I wish I was cool enough to listen to the Doors. Now I am, and I liked it! The more bluesy tracks the best Only track I knew was riders on the storm, from need for speed underground obviously Really liked been down so long too... I'm sure that's been sampled somewhere but don't know by who
J’avais seulement ecoute le best of des doors et je passais a cote de tellemnt de bonne tounes 5*
Great way to send the band off into the bathrub...er...sunset. Stripped down affair in comparison to Soft Parade (which is a good album). Blues and r&b generally at the forefront. Little psychedelia to be found (not that that was ever really their thing). Morrison's vocals are not as strong as the first couple albums, but bring that gravely, booze-infused warmth instead. Not a bad track here, and the title track could be their best. Oh, and there IS bass on this album, making the Kids in the Hall sketch incorrect.
A fantastic sendoff to one of the greatest bands of all time. They're not trying to prove anything here. It's full-on blues rock, rocking harder than they ever had before, although they still use Jim's mesmerizing voice and a variety of strange keyboards from their psychedelic days (although we get the spooky "L'America"). Every song is a powerful banger, rich and lush in their own ways: each song groovy, fun to dance to, and aesthetically pleasing to the air. The only two songs that didn't stick out much were the blues-heavy "Cars Hiss By My Window" and "Crawling King Snake", but not enough to detract from the full score.
Rock, entspannt, schöne Musik, gute Musiker
Favourite songs: the changeling, love her madly, L'America, hyacinth house, riders in the storm Least favourite: crawling king snake Really good album front to back 5/5
Classic
Adoro The Doors! Um álbum excelente! Muito bom reouvir essa maravilha! Melhores músicas: Love Her Madly, LA Woman, Hyacinth House e Riders on the Storm
I'm going to ignore the haters on this one - I think this is a classic album. Such a unique sound, and great songs. I loved this when I was 15 and I love it now.
I have no words
Wonderful album! "The WASP" and "Riders on the Storm" are CLASSICS, but I also really enjoyed "Hyacinth House," "The Changeling," "Cars Hiss by My Window," and "Crawling King Snake". Probably one of my fave releases from The Doors.
What an album!
09-16-22 Listened to half in the airport. Cars hiss by window is still my favorite doors song. Let’s make the band elite. Travelled from St. Louis-OKC-SAT. Hella anxious last night
A long time favorite of mine, the soundtrack of my teenage years. I know every word, every note, like my best friend. Possibly my favorite album of all time. Some call it heavenly in its brilliance. Others, mean and rueful of the Western dream.
doors at it finest
Connu
My favorite Doors album. Great mix of blues and rock.
I'll tell you this No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn
really liked LA woman and the jazz/blues
Alcoholic Jim Morrison >>>> Druggie burnout Jim Morrison
10/5..one of the greatest albums by one of the greatest bands…awesome.
I loveeee
It’s the Doors. I hadn’t listened to this full album in years. It was awesome.
Ive heard Riders on the Storm many times but I didn't realize how diverse the album was as a whole. Great fundamental blues riffing that's shaken up by some unique psychedelic rock sections and melded together by Morrison's voice and Manzarek's on his Vox Continental.
Hace como 12 años me cagaba The Doors. Pero ya crecí y pues obvio que son de las mejores bandas de la historia. De lo que sea. Pinche discazo caón.
Fucking slaps.
Don't listen to my review on this one, I give all of their albums 5 stars pretty much. Even bad Doors (Soft Parade) is good for me...but this, and their first album basically kicks off and ends the history of the band perfectly. So many great tracks and several oddities that has made this one I listen to over and over.
I love the mood of this record. It feels loose but also builds some really compelling atmospheres and structures. Very cinematic, especially with the sound effects on LA Woman and Riders on the Storm. Some real nice production touches to smooth out the jams and make it punch in all the right places. Channeled their raw energy into something really well crafted. A personal favorite of mine has always been "Hyacinth House," where I feel you can hear the weight of Jim and the band living a lifetime's worth within their 5 short years together. He sounds world-weary and grizzled throughout most of the record, and he was only 27! Wish they could have kept going with him, but at least they went out on top here.
This was a solid, solid blues rock album by the doors, but 'Riders on the Storm,' which I'd heard before and loved, put it over the edge. It's just the perfect ending to the album. The rain falling and the thunder overlaid gives a sense of finality that I don't think I've experienced from another album.
Fantastic album with Jim Morrison at, arguably, his best
Love it, but maybe more of a 4.5
I really like this album. It was tight.
Love The Doors, and Jim Morrison. Their entire catalogue is excellent. This one, the last studio record featuring Jim's vocals, is extra bluesy and isn't afraid to break out into extended groove sessions. Jim's lyrics are pure poetry, as usual. The guitar, bass, keyboard and drums all combine to provide a perfect blues stage to compliment the vocals. Not too much else to say on this one, it's just excellent. One of my favourite Doors albums, definitely a classic. Fave tracks: Been Down so Long, L.A. Woman, Riders on the Storm
Incredible
work of art
/// Inače, L.A.
excellent
One of my top 10 albums. Loved revisiting it!
ten out of ten.
The Doors at their absolute best, making fantastic music one last time.
Rock-blues de The Doors. Dos megahits.
Aww man. What a band. What an album. And the best of them. Jim Morrison's last. Stripped back rock blues, with just an amazing set of songs. I just listen to Riders on the Storm and visualise great things. This album transports me away somewhere special
Great catchy atmospheric songs, tight musicianship, stands up well to repeated listening even after listening to it a lot 30 years ago
Love the doors and love this album, great blues album, riders on the storm such a great song. I should listen to this album more as always usually go for the doors debut.
Violador de cerebros...
The previous Doors album from this list: Morrison Hotel is more of a favourite but this album is also very, very good, immediately from the opening song.
Frankly, I was not really in the mood for some Doors beforehand, but certainly on the second listen I quite enjoyed this album. Like Morrison Hotel, it sounds very bluesy, but the songs on this album were a lot more interesting, and the closing track Riders on the Storm is one of my favourite Doors songs.
