Despite some colourful guitar work and vocals that are heartfelt, honest, and gorgeous this album bombed for me. Adams is reaching for an emotion that just feels out of reach driven by simplistic lyrics that are cloying and weak. The lyrics really bring this one down for me. There is music that I can like despite poor lyrics but since Adams work leans so heavily on the writing, it moves front and center and really dont bear the weight of the music around it. The conversation at the start of the album really kicked things off on the wrong foot for me and it never recovered. I'll pass on this one again.
I can't tell if I would have given this 5 stars ten years ago. definitely overall not bad, not good. But more importantly not a great person
