драйвовый альбом

I know Iggy Pop wanted David Bowit to have less of a grip on this album, but I feel if anything this just feels like if David Bowie had continued his glam-ish hard rock rather than experimenting with different musical mediums in the late 70s. That leads to a record that has got some great emotion and gripping parts of it, as well as that Stooges edge that can be enthralling if done right. It does lose me a little on some of the lyrical choices (especially on songs like Sixteen) and a good chunk of songs losing me when they were oh so close to bringing me in, but this is still a rocking tune that feels like the perfect blend between that proto-punk sound and that more intense grip music had going into the 80s, and I think it pulls it off really well.

4 - Difficult one for me. I love Iggy at his best but some tracks just bring the album down. I think he’s so himself that I can’t not like it though.

Never been a huge fan of Lust for Life, I think it's a fine track but it just doesn't do much for me. Some Weird Sin's intro is fun. The Passenger guitar riff has a lot of gravitas. This is a much better hit than Lust for Life for me - the vocal is much more effective. Tonight is pretty good too tbh. Don't mind Success either. Turn Blue is a bit slow and annoying. I feel like Iggy feels the need to try something different with his voice but it doesnt really work. Liked this album a fair bit more than expected. Fave Tracks: Some Weird Sin, The Passenger, Tonight, Fall in Love with Me 3.8/5

Can't get past how much he looks like Jason Gunn on the album cover

first time listening to the full album, it's great

Wahrhaftig coole Songs. Order: 1) The Passenger 2) Neighborhood Threat 4.3

4 iggy is geil

Sehr cooles Album! "Lust For Life" macht richtig Stimmung und motiviert. "The Passenger" ist natürlich auch ein Klassiker! 8.5/10

Great album, some strange subject matter though

Један светски хит, веома добар албум. 8/10

Fantastic piece of work. Thank God for David Bowie's involvement making this album. This wasn't my first time listening to it. Even though I'm praising the album I'm still not giving it a 5/5. There are a few songs that are ok compared to awesome songs like The Passenger.

A solid rock album, a bit bowie in places but it seems everyone was then and they were friends so he was just copying his mate a little and have him write the best bit of homework, that's what friends do.

Really like this album. Gained a better appreciation for Iggy. Looking forward to hearing more from him. Have three songs added and could see listening to the album in full in the future. A very solid 4-4.5/5.

Groovy

Soundtracking the iconic opening scene to Trainspotting, the intro and title track evokes powerful memories of my teenage years. It's such a good romp it takes something away from second track, Sixteen, before picking up again with Some Weird Sin and then into standout track The Passenger, its upbeat swagger, instantly recognisable riff, "La la la" chorus making it utterly timeless. The thing that struck me most with this album is there's a lot more to Iggy Pop than what appears on the surface, which I guess is what happens when you have spent a significant amount of time as David Bowie's protege. The Bowie-esque "Tonight" and "True Blue" with their soaring harmonies, shining guitars and varying vocal styles showcase a well-rounded musical offering beyond the bare-chested punk posturing. It's up there with Lou Reed/Velvet Underground and Bowie himself (if not quite hitting the stratospheric heights of the latter, which is an unfair comparison in itself). At 41 mins and with 9 tracks it's not an opus, but with the aforementioned Lust for Life and The Passenger, two almost culture-defining tracks, on the same album - it's hard not to love this album for this fact alone.

I would like to believe anything David Bowie touched turned to gold. This is closer to silver. Iggy kind of was the king of garage rock in the 70’s though. For an album released so late into the 70’s, it definitely feels like it’s taking from that raw power of the late 60’s and early 70’s more than anything. And you can definitely hear the Bowie on the album. Not only does he play on it, but his production style is all over this. Really, Bowie paved the way for rock artists like this. He did it with Lou Reed too. I am continually blown away at how much influence that man really had. Iggy’s voice took me a second to get used to. He has always been an interesting personality, and that bleeds through into this record. It’s dirty, energetic, and full of life. Listen to Turn Blue. The way that song ramps up and then suddenly comes to a conclusion is super cool. Objectively the most interesting song on the album. Rating: 7/10

continuing to have a real cool time. music: appreciated. (⌐■ ̮ ■)

I’ve listened to the Stooges so much but never much Iggy Pop beyond the singles and a few other songs here and there. Big mistake?? I liked this better than most of the Stooges stuff I know!

3.5-4: Similar vibe to the Ramones album but with a bit more to it, some duds later on can't spoil it. Enjoyed more than i expected

My experiences of Iggy have been quite hit or miss. The Idiot seems to be regarded as one of his best albums, yet I didn’t really like it at all. However, there are two songs on today’s album that I already know I enjoy so I’m somewhat more hopeful with this one. Let’s listen! Songs I already knew: Lust For Life, The Passenger Favourites: Lust For Life, The Passenger I will say that I enjoyed this album as a whole, but there are certainly two tracks that stand high above the rest in terms of quality. There were no bad songs here, but the rest of the album doesn’t really make itself memorable. This was certainly much easier to enjoy than The Idiot to my ears, which I’m most definitely glad about. The music is very raw, and would definitely fit under the umbrella of garage rock. I miss the days of music not being overproduced. The rawness of this was very welcome.

All good except for maybe a slow song near the end - a Berlin Bowie album in all but name and pretty upbeat (even Tonight - about a dying girl - is relatively upbeat). There are more conventional song structures here than on some of Bowie’s equivalent LPs of the period and no long Eno textured sound-scapes.

Listened Before? No Album Art: 3 / 5 (This is some prime 13or30 content right here.) Alright so here we go again with Iggy Pop (this time sans Stooges). Opens on the beach-rock inspired title track that I know him best for. This song is pretty sweet even though the mixing is utter garbage. Sounds like vocals were recorded in isolation in some concrete hallway with Iggy at one end and the mic at the other; the instrumentals all lay flat beneath. I think re-mixing with the bass punched up would do this song a huge service; bassist is putting on a clinic, but you can barely hear him. The Passenger is a really cool song. Sounds like The Strokes or one of those early-2000 UK-Indie bands 40 years earlier. Once again, I wish they pushed up the guitar mixing just a bit. Tonight actually feels heavily Bowie influenced. Like the guitar work through the bridge. Neighborhood Threat is another standout track, with Fall In Love With Me tapping into that pre-Strokes sound (I think its mainly the vocal effect). In any case, this is a fine one. Definitely preferred it over the Stooges album several weeks back. Pop is clearly front and center in this one; not only in name, but also in the way that each track is mixed. I would say that generally, the songs are quite good, but I think that the mixing doesn't do the instrumental enough credit. Overall though, this is a solid one. High 3, leaning 4 here. I'll give it the nudge, because I could see myself enjoying more than one listen. Added to Library? No Songs Added to Playlists: - Lust For Life (Sunny-vibes) - The Passenger (Driving)

Unfairly went into this album thinking I wasn't going to like it because I thought it was going to be punky like him with the Stooges. But it's turned out to be a nice groovy album that I really liked . Great album to run to while listening. Adding Tonight to my playlist that song was mad funky

The Passenger // Tonight // Turn Blue // Fall In Love With Me //

Vital, energetic production supports unique view on life. Classic. Timeless.

It’s 77 and Iggy has already transcended punk. It’s got the attitude and energy but feels well composed and deftly performed. I’m not really a fan of “punk” but this feels like something more.

I honestly had only the vaguest idea of who Iggy Pop is and I had never heard any of the songs on this album. But I'm a fan! I found myself bouncing my foot along to the beat, always a good sign. On the whole, catchy and peppy in just the way I like. Standouts were Lust for Life and The Passenger and it seems that I am not unique in thinking so.

The music is iconic. Iggys voice is grating at points. Some songs have aged badly - like sweet sixteen. But there’s a couple of pretty perfect songs on it. I’ll be humming lust for life and Passenger all day.

Recognised a couple of songs, and listened twice so a strong 4

Fire out of the gate! Songs I “knew” but didn’t really know.

Lust For Life was quite the ride for me in terms of quality. The first 3 songs were great and really groovy but the album fell off at the fourth song and stayed that way until the eighth song which was when it got a bit better. It was quite the mixed bag but the first 3 songs were so good, it gets a 3.5 from me (adjusted to 4 for this website) Best Song: Lust For Life Worst Song: Turn Blue

Love some Iggy!

Easy to listen to and has some really catchy songs, first half of the album, is definitely better than the second half. 3.5-4

Powerful and energetic, takes a hold of you and doesn't let go.

Enjoyed. Trainspotting probably has part to do with it

A collection of really good songs. Really like the production style. A couple of songs go on for way too long

Ah, so we have the David Bowie album we need to file under P do we? Notwithstanding two stellar singles - the title track and passenger - this record just oozes Bowie. But, interesting in my view, the thin white duke was already on a different level. Whilst he was helping Pop with this he was working on Low, a far more adventurous work. 7 years later Marillion would create Misplaced Childhood in this same studio, Hansa, overlooking the wall and East Germany. You can feel the starkness of this place in the production. The singles would be enough to give the album 4 stars alone. The rest of the tracks can’t get it to a 5/5 because of the overriding Bowie feel. But there are places where Pop even sounds a little Jagger. Enjoyable album but the history of the time is slightly more interesting than the music overall.

7/10. Kinda cool, nothing mind-blowing

Pretty solid album. Could definitely see how The Passenger was influential on a lot of the alternative and garage rock stuff that came out in the 80s and 90s. 7/10

Prefer Stooges Pop to Bowie Pop, but this is still good.

Energetic but sounds a lot like Bowie. Seems like there’s a general ‘70s pop sound’ that a lot of the non rock albums emulated back then. Still a fun album though. Lust for Life is a classic

Bonkers amounts of energy, and performances I would die to see live. Creepy lyrics tho

Ein paar sehr gute Lieder, aber auch ein paar nicht so gute

I'm glad I've never seen, felt or touched 1970s. It was a confusing and slimy place. Most of the songs end in a fade-out, since humanity had too much to handle back then to take time to finish songs. Production-wise everything is surprisingly very nice. I expected way more "punk" but got a decent "rhythm and blues". From reading about but not really listening much Iggy Pop except mandatory Lust for Life and I Wanna Be Your Dog I expected way less "sadder Rolling Stones". Lyrics are very repetitive, but that's the whole deal. Feels trance-ish. A great album still, but a bit too much of the same thing to my taste. Read up on it - I knew David Bowie was involved!

Cool! These are some catchy songs with nice production. Even though the songs feel better as individual songs sometimes, and some weird moments, this one is pretty cool! I’d see myself coming back to some songs here.

I didn’t realise how good this album was. I’m only really aware of Iggy for his hits and his popular culture personality. This was really good. A solid rock album from beginning to end.

Lust For Life is the GOAT!!!! Seriously fucking love this song. The Passenger is so good too, didn't take notes of other standouts but this is some top tier glam rock and I'm a big fan.

Groovy glam jams. Very relistenable, I think I slept on Iggy before but I am coming around to Mr. Pop.

I dig Iggy!

Iggy sort of returns to his former glory. It’s easy to understand why this is the record people gravitate to.

Completely different from his debut, Lust For Life is Iggy Pop developing into his own legendary persona and stepping out of Bowie's shadow (even though this is very much still a collaborative effort). It's aggressive without ever losing sight of musicality - reminding me that the name Iggy Pop is almost as false advertisement as the name The Killers.

Iggy dives deeper back into his Stooges roots while still keeping up with the incredible partnership with David Bowie. It’s what I missed on The Idiot.

Brilliant for its time

Rollicking good time.

Very strong start, but kind of tails off in the second half. Loved Lust for Life and The Passenger.

I enjoyed it quite a bit

Very good

classic

Good tracks.

decent, but didn't engage me.

Great to hear the rest of the album where Lust for Life is from

Groovy and accessible garage rock. It's a lot brighter and full-of-energy than his earlier release that year The Idiot. Bowie's influence is stronger on here than ever, with songs like "Tonight" screaming Bowie's glam work. No bad songs, there's a good diversity of sounds here. But overall, I like the rawness that the instruments sound like they're being recorded from underwater. Has that deep dark groove you see in later goth music yet feels full of life.

Really enjoyed this overall. Some timeless classics and others I enjoyed that I hadn't heard before like neighbourhood threat for example. Really enjoyed the whole thing and will listen again

Lust For Life and The Passenger are classics. I enjoyed this a lot on the whole.

Personally I prefer the idiot but man this is such an insane classic. how often does an older artist come back and male two back to back bangers.

Lust for Life is a great up beat rock track to kickstart the Titular Album. Starting off the album with a very high tempo track to hook the listener. Sixteen is a very broody track that really captivated me. Something about it just makes you really want to groove and snap your fingers like you're a goth in south park. The Passenger really steals the show, just everything you want from a track. Very joyous acoustics on this and a catchy chorus make this a very clear standout. Tonight is a switch of tone to a very somber track detailing the last moments of a woman's life due to heroin overdose. Overall this is a very good album that I can see why is so highly touted. A very great rock record that would inspire many of the best later down the line.

Really solid album. Lust for Life remains a banger. Success is an underrated great song. David Bowie's fingerprints are all over this First time listening to the entire album and yeah, it cooks!

Really fun! I like the energy. I feel like this is something that music has exceeded, though. Like there's music released recently that has the same vibes and style but is better. That's influence, though, so good for Iggy

Nice 4*

Iggy ja Ziggy!

Born of the cool. Every sound is very punk and "old" but I really enjoyed it.

Standouts: Lust for Life, The Passenger, Tonight. And I think Turn Blue is a damn good one too!

Great album with Bowles influence evident throughout

Love the Bowie influence on this

This album has an interesting style. There’s a strong 60’s R&B/soul influence but filtered through glam-rock and punk. David Bowie produced the album and co-wrote a lot of the music and you can hear his dramatic style. Iggy Pop can be very theatrical with his vocals too and the production puts his voice front and center. The standout tracks are the classic “Lust for Life,” and “The Passenger.” Great rock songs.

"Lust For Life" the song is so dang good, I really just hate how it became so synonymous with TV ad's. I feel like there were a few companies that used it and used it the same commercial for years and I really can't hear the song without thinking about a TV commercial which is a bummer. "The Passenger" is another killer track. I love the laid back coolness. The melody sits on top of that cool swung guitar rhythm (almost a little like reggae/dub right?) and his voice tone and performance fits so well. What a great album cover. It kind of looks like a TIME magazine cover but in a goofy tongue-in-cheek way. I haven't listened much to Iggy Pop but this record sounded great.

An exploration about what makes life meaningful after being at your lowest point

It's a really good, though not excellent, rock album. Bowie's presence is noticeable, but not as dominants as on The Idiot. Some really solid tracks, but there are a couple of fairly dull ones.

This is the first album I’ve listened to that was good, not great. It has some iconic songs on it and I know Iggy Pop was very influential to the punk rock scene that came after him. It definitely takes you to the dark alleys and hole in the wall bars in your mind’s eye. It’s a fun album.

Really good album, mix of genres and stands up well

Had some songs I knew about on here. Overall, it was a good album.

Now that’s more like it. Timeless

This was good. More up-tempo than The Idiot.

I only knew the title song before listening. Really enjoyable. I like the pop-punk genre and Iggy was good at it. Didn't hurt to have David Bowie helping out. Turn Blue is a really interesting song. Apparently the lyrics were composed on the spot by Iggy for a tune Bowie had written. That's crazy.

Pretty damn good time for someone apparently trying to kick a heroin habit.

4.5 stars, really liked this hard rock version of new wave. Felt ahead of it's time. Not a full 5 stars because some of the middle tracks didn't overly impress, but overall this was fantastic. "The Passenger" is a total banger. Title track also good.

Very enjoyable. The story about how Iggy and David Bowie made the album and how it was rediscovered 20 years later was interesting, too.

Knew the singles, but this is a good un. Worth a Relisten or two!

3rd August 2023 Still majorly out of the loop and a few days behind but will catch up today. This is a punchy, dark fit of a record as Pop drawls and yelps his way through. 4.5 if I could.

I've listened to Lust for Life and The Passenger many times before now, but never dug deeper into the album. Such a shame because I was missing out on some incredible music!

i really liked this but it wasn’t really what i expected - great songwriting

Very bowie in parts but good stuff

Very energetic album ! With an old school sound and definitely a unique genre. Can listen to it any time ! 4.5/5

Čuje se da je na albumu radio Bowie 1. 4 2. 3 3. 4 4. 5 5. 5 6. 3 7. 2 8. 3 9. 4 3,67

I liked it. I get why he and Bowie hung out

This album is important to me only because of one song - "The Passenger". The main riff from this song is now of cultural significance, you just can't have any existential road movie without some version of this song in the soundtrack. Great track, forever in my heart. As for the rest of the album, you can hear influence (and his voice, pretty often really) from David Bowie. It feels more like one of his record than Iggy's. I wasn't 100% hooked though, I still don't like Iggy's vocal, even though on this record it was less aggressive than usual. Overall, I think one great song is not enough to give It the best rating, so this time just 4 out of 5.

"Lust for Life" and "The Passenger" are my two favorite non-Stooges Iggy songs, so this album's a win for me regardless of the quality of the rest of it. The fact that it's solid just makes things even more satisfying.

I love me some early days Iggy Pop. Such a great album. Love Bowie on here.

Swag for sure ! 🎤🐈‍⬛

Classic banger? Blassic Blanger?

There's a lot of good here. It's the right balance of pop and boundary pushing, and viewed in the context of its time I get why Iggy has such a following. I really liked it. Not sure if we're looming at a 4 or a 5. Coin flip said 4

Good album and fun listen from the grandfather of punk. 'The Passenger' is a classic, 'Lust For Life' is a banger and I did like 'Some Weird Sins' too. I do thing Iggy peaked with The Stooges though.

This is a splendid album by Iggy Pop, arguably his best. It's kind of all elbows, ragged and chaotic, shaking off the more structured sound of his work with David Bowie on The Idiot. This is Iggy embracing himself as an artist and where he wants to go musically - raw hedonism, aggressive proto-punk energy, frank subject matter, surprising moments of vulnerability. Warts and all, somehow he makes it all work beautifully. What do most people think of when they think of Iggy Pop? Lust for Life, what's what. Fave Songs: The Passenger, Lust for Life, Neighborhood Threat, Tonight, Success

This cover is the eeriest thing in the world. This cover has only gotten better with age. I think the album has, too.

Yeah, okay - it ain't the Stooges, but what is? Heck, why should I expect more of the same? Why would I even want that? Nonetheless, there's Detroit garage rock in the DNA of this bad boy, and whilst a little uneven as a whole I like it. The sound is stripped-down and lean, a perfect vehicle for music that is simple, even repetitive, in parts - it packs a punch. The drums on the title track are the apogee of rock percussion in my opinion. Rama lama!

Really, really enjoyed this! Man, between "Lust for Life" and "The Passenger," I wonder how many homes Iggy has been able to buy just from the licensing fees for commercials. "Some Weird Sin" and "Success" were other standouts, but this thing is solid throughout. Now I know why Renton from Trainspotting was such a fan. But not from Trainspotting 2 because that was terrible.

iggy pop 😲

Really liked this album! Fave track probably mainstream but 'The Passenger'

In don't have a lot to say about this album other than it's absolutely solid, not a bad track on it. Personal highlights include title track "Lust For Life", "Success", and "Neighborhood Threat". I wasn't all too familiar with Iggy Pop aside from perhaps one or two songs by The Stooges, so I'm glad this came up and let me hear more of him.

Here we goo. Are you gonna be my girl by Jet sounds like Lust for Life on this album... Same riff.

The opening drum is so fun.

Good vibes, beat entraînant, belle tite guit, soleil qui se couche, soirée entre amis au chalet.

This is really good. I wansn't expecting the strength in depth here. Definitely one to keep coming back to.

Feels like this is the 1001 Iggy Pop albums you need to hear before you die…

4/9, 44%

Inaspettatamente ottimo, ogni canzone straripa di energia, in alcuni punti però cala un po' e si sente la mancanza. 4 stelle ma arriva molto vicino a toccare le 5 per me

Interesting.

Great punk tracks

te amo iggy

You know, as somebody who has known about Iggy Pop my whole life, i don't think I even knew that his most popular songs were by him. This ruled. Definitely added to my rotation.

I really enjoyed this album! The Passenger is a great song.

I really enjoyed this

This sounds like it was made to be performed on a shitty, grimy stage in a bar with dreadful stage decorations. I love it.

Love this. Just bought it. You can hear David Bowie's influence.

A very good album.

Kannte bis auf passenger eigentlich nix von dem, eigentlich echt gutes Zeug dabei

nocied

Genre: Punk Rock Review: Interesting, nothing extraordinary or earth-shattering but certainly a good piece of work. Rating: 7/10

Really enjoyed this one. Great variety of songs and The Passenger is an all time classic

lol, this has the trainspotting theme song. It's a good song. I didn't realize it was Iggy Pop. This is definitely a more melodic Iggy Pop than the last album. I actually kind of like it. He's still a terrible singer though. Oh, it has The Passenger on it. That's pretty key!

1. Lust For Life: energetic but not too special for me. 6/10. 2. Sixteen: nice song, good guitar play and vocals. 7/10 3. Some Weird Sin: nice track, enjoyable throughout. 7.5/10. 4. The Passenger: classic and nostalgic banger. 8.5/10 5. Tonight: chill song and nice solo. 7/10 6. Success: backing vocals really uplift this track. Pretty fun song. 7.5/10 7. Turn Blue: decent track, overall vibe is good and gets better to the end. 6.5/10 8. Neighbourhood Threat: really nice one. Good tones and complementation with the vocals. 9/10 9. Fall In Love With Me: guitar riff is really nice. Very nice song. 8.5

Spooky Skeleton man has always had a refined blend of punk and appeal. It i interesting to listen to the differences in the tracks produced by Iggy and by Bowie.

This album just feels like good, clean, fun. The title track is outstanding and it's impossible not to bop along with the catchy tune. As far as influence and importance, I can hear the influence of David Bowie here coming through, and the album is not only fun but very well put together and produced. I'm not sure I'll be turning to this all the time, but it does make fun party/cleaning music.

Alltaf smá skrýtið að heyra lögin af Tonight plötunni hans Bowies hér, en Iggy útgáfan er einfaldlega mikið betri. Titillagið og Passenger eru stórkostleg, hin eru góð. - Bowie í bakröddum er frábær, bara Jagger í "You're so vain" kemst nálægt honum.

Pretty solid stuff. 'Sixteen' feels a bit out of place but an enjoyable piece nonetheless. The two longer tracks feel just a little drawn-out but still good. I might end up liking them a lot more if I give them a few more listens. Songs I Really Liked: Lust For Life, The Passenger, Success, Neighborhood Threat

A lot more boogie in this than I remembered.

Maybe the only picture of Iggy Pop with a clothed torso. He looks like a smiley, happy man on the album cover and the record gives the impression he's having a lovely time making a fun and melodic songs. Given that the Lust For Life/Town Called Malice (The Jam)/Be My Girl (Jet) tune is used on here twice, the album feels surprisingly varied, and flows nicely. Would listen again. Rating: 4/5 Playlist track: The Passenger Date listened: 03/03/23

This album gets better each time I listen to it. I listened to it 4 times yesterday.

Really was digging this album, and when it finished Amazon Music just sent me into The Clash. Great way to spend the morning.

2/20- Driving to school Iggy delivers a more personal, quirky, and personality-filled album here than he was able to give with the Stooges. All of the integral factors of Iggy Pop albums are still present, and it shows the human side of him.

Had no idea that "Lust for Life" and "The Passenger" were actually Iggy's. This was a pretty good album and caught me by surprise, especially with the unexpected David Bowie collab. 7/10.

Iggy Pop is pretty cool to listen to. Very upbeat. Could listen to this album again.

Iggy. 77. 'Nuff said.

I don’t know if this is the best Iggy Pop album, but The Passenger is for sure my favorite Iggy Pop song.

This being the 3rd or4th Iggy pop album that I have gotten and this is by far my favorite one so far and the only one that I would listen to again. Lust for life, passenger, and success were my favorite songs.

Niet helemaal mijn stijl, maar een goed album is een goed album

Really damn good

Lusty and lifey

the lust for life is strong in this one

Yes! Fabulous stuff. Admittedly led by two bangers, Lust for Life and Passenger. The Bowie is strong in this one.

Strange as the campy cover artwork he comes around as a more glammy Rock’n’Roller than as Punkrocker he‘s been labelled. So british that one cannot think of the pilars of Britpop like Pulp or Supergrass without thanking Iggy with a sincere tie to the Stones and black roots of Rock. 3.7

Dance like hypnotised chickens.

Band had great energy, there was no way this album could’ve been bad with Bowie production, still first few songs didn’t interest me that much and I found the album to be more backloaded. Overall 7.5 and I would like to hear more from this band

Maybe Iggy's finest collection of tunes, thanks in no small part to music composer, producer, and friend David Bowie, who also provides backing vocals and keys. He lets himself bask in the sun here, not hitting the darkness of the Stooges and some of his other solo stuff, and it suits him!

Overall I love how positive and energetic this whole thing is especially when you consider Iggy's previous album, The Idiot. It’s like a completely different thing and there was just a couple of months between both records. The two iconic tracks - The Passenger and Lust for Life - are all time classics. The rest of the album is top tier as well. I really liked the riff on Some Weird Sin, the Bowie-like melodies on Tonight. Success was great if not a bit too long and too repetitive (would have been great if it was cut earlier), Turn Blue is a great and atmospheric track. Neighbourhood Treat is ok. The last son fall in love with me is too much glam and less interesting. Sixteen is similar and they’re both the weakest tracks for me on the album. I really enjoy the instrumentals throughout the album: strong drums, nice guitar riffs and atmospheric keyboards from time to time. The lyrics are cool. Iggys delivery is great. Cover art makes me smile. He looks like such a nice guy here. It’s a 4 from me but I can easily see myself growing into loving it much more over time so a potential 5 in the future or if I had heard it earlier in my life it would have been a 5.

Nice one, enjoyed listening to this for the first time.

Obviously know the hits on here, but hadn't heard the whole album. 'Sixteen' is awesome, Happy Mondays 8 years before the Happy Mondays. It all gets a bit flabby around the middle of the album and then 'Neighborhood Threat' hits. Ace.

Very nice, very Bowie too

Apart from Lust for life and the passenger, I didn't know any of these songs. I really enjoyed this and falls exactly in the genre I would normally listen to. Great album from start to end.

Pretty nice album, easy listening and The Passenger is a masterpiece

Great album

Great album

The Passenger is such a ridiculously good song

Hugely enjoyable - Success gave probably the biggest smile of anything in a while, Bowie’s voice in the call-and-response in particular. Turn Blue another fav I think, plus The Passenger good to hear deliberately for once, and Lust for Life great to hear in full in focus after all these years. Sixteen another highlight hearing how it prefigured The Strokes, but the whole thing so solid I’m not sure by how much those tracknames I remember sat above the high-canopy of the rest of it. Great stuff, must listen again.

Pretty cool that this is essentially a collaboration album between Iggy Pop and David Bowie. You can definitely hear Bowie's influence all over this, as Iggy Pop's punk rawness has been softened slightly to fit some more melodic tunes. I won't be listening to this again most likely but it was well made with lots of different sounding songs yet having a cohesive feel throughout.

For Iggy Pop a surprisingly calm and normal album. Decent background music but the lack of real hits make it fall short of 4 stars

good stuff. 4

Loved this! The passenger 🤘

Lust for Life is a great opening track and this record has The Passenger on it as well. Lesser artists would be lucky to land these two tracks alone. Furthermore, there are other solid tracks here: Sixteen, Some Weird Sin, Success, Neighborhood Threat are among my other favorites. All strung together with enough of the Stooges vibe to remind you of his proto-punk roots and that also keep some of the Bowie influences in check. You might say, when would that ever be a good thing? Bowie is a genius. And yet, I'd argue for Iggy Pop leaning a little more Stooges only makes the Bowie bits shine more. To me, it feels more integrated and balanced as an Iggy Pop record than The Idiot for instance. The closing track Fall in Love with me runs a little long and I start to lose my patience with the album when that happens. I'm always slightly unnerved by the photo of Iggy grinning at me like some bad year book picture, but I've also figured that was the point.

Starts out with the hits before transitioning into more deep cuts. Good dad rock vibes, considered hard rock proto-punk when it was released but seems pretty tame these days

Rating: 8/10 Best songs: Lust for life, The passenger, Success, Fall in love with me

Good album. I like Iggy and had listened to this album before though. 4/5

It’s definitely less feral than the Stooges’ stuff, more polished, but still has the energy and ironic brilliance that you’d still expect from Iggy at this point. He and Bowie really were terrific bedfellows at this point; they compliment each other brilliantly. B+

A few big hitters. It was nice to hear 'Tonight' again.

This is a quintessential Iggy Pop album, and so worth a listen.

Great hits and other fantastic tracks on an enjoyable and incredible record, but Iggy Pop has done even better especially in the late 60s and early 70s with The Stooges.

God bless Bowie. He took Iggy to Berlin, got him off smack & helped him record the best post-Stooges album of his career. It still amazes me that Jim has outlived Davy. Love this record. Side One is a killer. Is there a better opening track than the title track here? The drums are a wonder. The rhythms on The Passenger are equally infectious. Bowie has his prints all over the album - co-producer, vocalist & pianist. I saw Iggy at The Capitol in Sydney in the early 80’s, and it wasn’t that thrilling, but saw him again at The Hordern in Sydney in 2013 & he was sensational, limping around, wearing nothing but jeans, and sounding as great as he ever did. You have to wonder what course his career would have taken without the friendship of Bowie & then later the use of the title track of this album in Trainspotting? My fave Iggy story - his dad was a high school English teacher. His students used to call him Iggy’s Pop.

Supposedly, Noel Gallagher once said that he got all the songwriting royalties I n Oasis because “ nobody ever hums the bassline of song”. Some wag is said to have responded that he had clearly never heard Lust for Life. Critical reaction to Iggy’s previous album, The Idiot, was that he had lost his ability to rock, and that Bowie had taken over too much. In retrospect, we can see that album as part of Bowie’s Berlin period and the hugely influential shift in rock music that was. But another Stooges record it sure ain’t. So, after a few months touring The Idiot, Iggy went back to the studio, he wanted to be a bit more in control over the songs, the arrangements and the sound. It’s a lot more straightforward rock and roll (although not enough to satisfy Lester Bangs). There is still quite a bit of Bowie here. Lust for Life and the Passenger are two absolute classics. I am also quite partial to Success. I find the rest of the album pretty great rock ‘n roll fun, and would happily listen to it almost any time. It’s probably the most focused and rockin’ that Iggy ever was post-Stooges.

Good music but if I had a teenage kid I wouldn't want Iggy Pop near them

Det er jo godt, bliver aldrig kæmpe Iggy fan, men man kan ikke sige at det er er dårligt album!

The title track just kicks everything off with so much energy, it's an irresistible start to the record really. This may be Iggy's most vocally diverse album, he's just all over the place and sounding fantastic on pretty much everything. A couple of songs don't quite hit for me, but on the whole it's just a very fun time

Pretty great album. A handful of incredible songs and no duds. Was familiar with the hits but it was nice to finally hear some of the lesser played stuff.

This was the second solo album for Iggy Pop since the break up of the Stooges, and his second of three albums he would make that year. He was spending his time in Berlin with David Bowie, trying to get clean after a period of drug addiction. Bowie provided keyboard support to Iggy on this album, allowing more of the spotlight to be cast on Iggy himself instead of on Bowie. This album was apparently written, recorded, and mixed in 8 days!! This is a great rock/post punk album! A few songs dealt with heroin abuse (notably Tonight and Turn Blue), however there are a few lighter songs to counteract that heavy topic (Lust for Life, Success). Apparently, Bowie's famous riff in the song Lust for Life was inspired by the Morse code intro to the American Forces Network News in Berlin. Overall, a great record! I really enjoyed it. Before this listening experience, I was only familiar with Iggy's work with The Stooges. I'm glad I listened for sure! Favourite songs: Some Weird Sin, The Passenger, Lust for Life, Sixteen, Neighborhood Threat Least favourite songs: Turn Blue, Success (just didn't like the repetitive, simplistic lyrics. The music was great though) 4/5

Great album with some excellent production by David Bowie

Another classic 4+/5

Iggy's best. 2 great classic songs with a few minor classics thrown in. 4.5 stars

Buen disco de rock suave con algunas canciones míticas. No muy guitarrero y no es incómodo de escuchar

Sometimes a little musically repetitive, but this one is pretty good. Some tracks smoother than truffle oils.

Classic

Rock. Muy bueno!

Álbum muito famoso do Iggy, que tem talvez o seu maior hit: The passenger. Gostei. Melhores músicas: Lust For life e Tonight.

Sixteen was like comically bad, but I felt like the album got a lot better in the second half

What can I say other than it's Iggy Pop and produced by David Bowie. He pretty much built the bridge between rock and punk. Good stuff.

Habe mich bisher kaum mit Iggy Pop beschäftigt, aber Passenger kannte ich. Insgesamt nicer sound!

Why had I never listened to this?? Great album, easy and fun to listen to. Apparently I'd never really listened to Iggy Pop, and I have no idea why.

It's not 'the idiot', but it's still bloody great

Solid album. Didn't love every song but I liked the majority of them.

Iggy iggy iggy

Not quite the lightning bolt that The Idiot was, the second of the Iggy/Bowie albums is still a great collection of tunes, perhaps stronger in its predecessor. Great album, at a period when music just flowed out of Bowie like a river.

Fun and energizing listen

Ok in the first half of the album, but got really good in the second half. Developed a David Bowie-type sound.

Chulo.

Good one to work out to.

Super fun!

Enjoyed, added some music to liked

Solid stuff

Probably one of the most fitting titles for an album - every song is on the love of life, hedonism and sleaze - but oh how wonderful Iggy conveys it all. It’s also the vessel for Iggy biggest songs - the eponymous first track and The Passenger - couldn’t get enough of it. Im reducing a star because Iggy takes the creepiness a bit too far on some songs.

Enjoyed. But have already listened to

8/17/23 not bad 1st and last songs among the worst. "Success" and "the passenger" and"turn blue" stood out

Lo he agregado inmediatamente a mi biblioteca.

Absolute stone cold classic songs The Passenger and Lust for Life on this one. Strangely, given my love for Punk/New Wave and late 70's Bowie I had not listened to this complete album before. Eejit.

Can we talk about how very wholesome and appealing the cover photo is? Odd choice for the material but I love it. Once again the generator has uncovered an album I've never listened to all the way through but should have. Fantastic all the way through and will be spinning it again when I'm looking for another shot of energy.

Classic album, and I enjoyed this immensely! This album really helped me understand that I need more Iggy in my rotation. Favorite track: A Passenger

Iggy Pop. I've heard the name but never listened. This album was amazing. How have not been listening to this?

This Album is peak Iggy, Just iconic.

Great production by Bowie

Very strong songs. Passengers is the stand out track. Tonight is a little soiled for me. I wasn't aware of the Iggy version, only Bowie's abomination. Lovely old analogue production throughout the album. Cheers, D

eu gosto bastante desse album, é punk mais pela aparencia do que pelo som mesmo. lust for life e the passenger são minhas favoritas. o jeito dele de cantar é meio lou reed so que bem grave e doentio, da um tom de ignorancia, digamos assim, pra musica

I've always really liked The Passenger. Lust for Life is great too, despite being so overplayed. Until now, I never knew that the rhythm section was the Sales brothers (Soupy's sons) from Tin Machine.

This is another 3.5 album for me that ends up with a 4 on here due to the rating system. The Passenger and Lust for Life are classics...Success is bit of fun too...Tonight is an interesting one as well

Fun album showcasing Iggy's songwriting prowess as he matured away from his sound with the Stooges and was aided instead by Bowie. Includes two bonafide classics and the rest are far from average. Great album.

Bowie’s grizzled older brother. You can tell Bowie produced this thing, but Iggy has his own rough flare. 41 minutes of incredibly rough rock music that borders on punk sometimes. The more Bowie like elements on this album balance out to make it an incredible listen that makes it one of the best albums of the decade.

Had only really listened to the 'popular' tracks and man, had I been missing out.

So obviously setting foundations for where Rock was headed, that it’s perplexing how little notice it generated in its time, though I suppose that sort of culture lag is the somewhat more the rule than the exception. I do think the limitations and monotony of the vocal delivery detract from the overall quality.

Surprisingly great. Jets more or less sampled the title track drums for their hit. I think my relatively recent deep dive on Bowie helped me appreciate this material more.

Einige gute Sachen dabei, kannte 'The Passenger' schon. Definitiv hörenswert.

There was a lot of good stuff on here that increased my admiration for Mr Pop. I loved the Bowie collab!

3.5/5. Pretty good, easy listening. Reminds me of Bowie. The Passenger was definitely the song I enjoyed the most.

The title track was definitely the star of the album for me but the rest of it was also really solid. Felt very 60s for 1977

Chulo.

An album to take you back in time. Pretty much a classic. The band should have been given an Iggy Pop and the......whatever they wanted to call themselves credit though. Theyre as much a part of it's success as Iggy.

Tonight, Neighbourhood Threat, L4L & The Passenger suggest Iggy Pop is better than I thought June 14/22

surprisingly good first listen

Great album, cowritten by Bowie. Defo one to go back to.

It's the OG passenger album. Some great songs here!!

5/12/2022 - ALBUM #106 Today's Album: "Lust For Life" by Iggy Pop - The opening track of this album, Lust For Life, is a really fun and upbeat track that is so accessible, it's really surprising that it's an Iggy Pop song at all, which is a great analogy for how I feel about most of this album. I think this being the third album I've hear from Iggy, I really am starting to appreciate his vocals and the production on a lot of these tracks is really great, managing to mix everything equally and make it sound really warm and crisp. I think I still am having a hard time getting into his lyricism, but it's really starting to make sense how he writes song and its getting easier to dissect the deeper meaning out of these tracks. I really like the simple instrumentation of the passenger and I think Iggy gives a really solid and powerful vocal performance on this one. All of the track on this album really just feel like Iggy is deciding to make a more uplifting and upbeat album after coming out of a battle with drugs and alcohol and it genuinely shows in just how fun the songwriting is on this album. Tonight and Success are both fantastic rock anthems and the performances are just so damn lively and full of heart. Turn Blue isn't really as exciting as some of the other tracks, but it has a really nice aesthetic to it and the vocal performance may be the strongest and most confident I have heard from Iggy to date, with many dramatic changes in vocal delivery that go over quite well. Neighborhood Threat feels a bit more generic than some of the other tracks here, but it still sounds pretty nice while it's on. The closing track, Fall In Love With Me, is a really fun jam track where the band lets loose a little with this really groovy track. There's a lot of fun solos, a rock organ backing things up, and Iggy's vocal performance really takes a back seat and blends well into the vibe of the track. Overall, this album really surprised me and showed me why people like Iggy Pop so much. He isn't often poppy, but when he decides to make a pop song, you understand why it's in his name. Listen to this one if you like 70s rock outfits like David Bowie or if you want to hear some of the most accessible music from Iggy Pop. Highlights: Lust For Life, The Passenger, Tonight, Success, Neighborhood Threat, Fall In Love With Me Score: 7.5/10 My favorite Iggy Pop project so far

Almost a 5 for it’s like hypnotising chickens alone

The title track is a stupendous way to open an album (or a movie or breakfast or just about anything). It's one of my favorites ever. Beyond that, I loved the David Bowie-ness of this album. It made for a much more pleasant experience than I expected based on the little else I knew of Iggy Pop.

The title track and The Passenger are both absolute all-time classic tracks of the period, and the rest of the album is excellent as well. If it wasn't for Turn Blue, which I can't stand, this would be an easy 5 for me.

Lust for Life & The Passenger are brilliant, top tunes. Rest of the album can't match them

Its sounds like david bowie but a little grittier

Iggy's best album.

Another album where the hand of David Bowie revives a legendary artist, like he did with Lou Reed. This album's A-Side is full of amazing songs, Lust For Life, Sixteen even The Passenger. It falls slowly away during side B with a few missers, so it's a 4* rather than a 5* album.

Again I am given an lp I have listened to since youth. It's a five star lp but it is not opening any new roads for me. Beginning to wonder the point of this exersize.

Re-listening this album I realized that I very much like Fall In Love With Me.

J’aime de plus en p,us iggy pop, il a un vrai sens du spectacle et ca musique est tres eclate et res bonne. Cet album ne fait pas exception, comme les autres dans cette liste. 4.5

4 stars

good fun

Déjà quand t'as 3 points de pris pour Lust for Life uniquement, c'est un peu de la triche mais c'est comme ça .. +1 pt pour l'ensemble du reste on va dire

Well, Sixteen is a little disturbing... LFL is decent, I feel like this album was IPs shot at going pseudo-mainstream and facilitated by Bowie who saw some good stuff in IP. The Turn Blue track, written by Bowie, is terrible and doesn't fit with the album. Also, the lyric "Shot myself down" comes out as 'Shat myself down'... hehehe "Shat" ... Anyhow, there are a couple good tracks on this that everyone has heard before in their favorite coming-of-age drama (The Passenger, I'm talking to you), this doesn't perform as well as I thought it might, but still deserves high marks. ... where are the Stooges albums on this list... ?

Cool album...one I had been meaning to listen to for a while. I have been a big fan of the Stooges in the past and almost enjoyed this one as much. Interesting that Bowie essentially wrote everything but the lyrics. 4/5

Pretty good. Not great.

Very good not great album.. Nice to hear Iggy expand and do different things, has Bowie touch all over it obviously.

There's only a few Iggy albums that I really like, and this is one of them. Turn Blue is the only low point here, the rest of the album is filled with bangers!

Nothing much to say, really nice album with a bit of pop & puk vibe.

I knew the biggies from this and its status as a 'classic'. It met my expectationsbut didn't exceed them. It's essentially a really great punk/glam album which has no bad songs on it, and two truly brilliant ones (Title track and The Passenger). His sneering attitude and fierce intellect raise this above more pedestrian fare from the same time, but it's a really good album, rather than an amazing one.

The title track will forever be associated with Trainspotting for me. The rest of the album, however is completely new to me. This is punk-Bowie. Same instrumentation and vocal stylings. The Passenger is a great song. Tonight has a Broadway "Skid Row" sound and feel - clearly about overdose, and do I detect David Bowie singing backup on this? This is better than a lot of glam and punk rock. A nice surprise!

Pretty good album, appealed to me much more than the stooges debut we had earlier on this list. I think I would have liked it even more if this had been a Bowie album.

That was fun

p392. 1977. 4 stars Stripped back rock and roll at its finest from one of the great voices. Two absolute bangers in the title track and The Passenger. Bowie production and vocals are a bonus. 1 point deducted for the filler (Neighbourhood Threat) and some tracks (Turn Blue, Fall In Love With Me) outstaying their welcome. Still essential listening.

So everyone knows the title track and Passenger but there’s some cracking tracks on this album - Success and sixteen spring to mind - brilliant

Mainly a 3⭐️ album, lifted up to a generous 4⭐️ by The Passenger & the title track 👍🏾

Pretty great, didn't realize how much of this was written by Bowie.

Love imaging him and Bowie have a grand old time together. Didn't quite hit five stars but The Passenger and Tonight are excellent tunes.

I AM THE PASSENGER

Nou, dat begint meteen met de dikke hit "Lust For Life". Lekker van die Britse straat-pop-muziek. Oh, ook het nummer "The Passenger" is leuk. ****

It's impressive that this is from 1977 and yet it sounds so contemporary for many of the songs.

A fun energetic album. 1 recognized song

Lust for Life is an album with a very interesting story, involving the growing relationship between Iggy and Bowie that resulted in great songs - the peak being this album. The mix of hard rock and some kind of punk reminescent from the Stooges (and heroine) is very unique, especially in the opening track "Lust for Life". "Some Weird Sin" is very raw, "The Passenger" is a classic and "Tonight" makes clear that this is basically a Pop & Bowie effort. Always a great listen.

Interesting fact about this album, the great song ‘Tonight’, featuring producer David Bowie’s recognisable voice on backing vocals, was later covered by Bowie himself (with Tina Turner) for his 1984 album also titled ‘Tonight’, and it fucking sucks camel shit

Rock and roll de party punk d’un bout à l’autre, que demande le peuple?

I have a soft spot for Iggy, but this project clearly deserves its line in history. A little bit of freakiness is in evidence, though it's mostly stuffed in pop-song forms. If there's any lack, it's that the tracklist avoids a real rise or fall. But there's development, there's the hit, no filler, and plenty of rock forward.

Vibe muito boa com hits épicos

David Bowie no tiene mucho espacio pa fallar. Tiene los dos grandes temas (Lust for life y The Passenger) y el resto estan guapos.

Loved it.

Iggy has a unique voice, particularly for the time period that he was doing his thing. It's punk with a hint of Bowie. Big fan, enjoyed this album despite only really knowing the big hits. It's fairly brief too, doesn't overstay its welcome.

I really dig it

Surprised by how much I liked this, and more than just the hits.

Liked this more than I thought I would. Always surprises me how old Iggy Pop is...

4.5 tirándole al seis.

Really interesting to read about the background to this LP, I did not know that Iggy made this with Bowie. The Passenger sounds better than ever, Lust for Life a different take to the Trainspotting mix we all know also really enjoyed the closer ‘Fall In Love With Me’.

Favourite tracks: lust for life, the passenger, sixteen Least favourite tracks: tonight

It's not "Raw Power", but it's still raw, groovy, and classic. "Lust for Life" is pretty good, but I completely forgot about "The Passenger", it's one of my favorites by Iggy!

This album was a super cool listen. It's crazy that Iggy was so far ahead of his time that he had already moved onto his second act as a musician the same year that punk was beginning to break in the US and UK. The title track on this album is a titanic way to kick the album off, but it doesn't disappoint from there. The Passenger is an awesome song, but really all of the songs on this album are good. 4/5

Amazing songs. Would listen to the whole album again.
