Popular Reviews

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens

Not my thing. I enjoyed some of the musical compositions but the lyrics felt...juvenile? A second album in a row that I'm having a hard time connecting with. While I try not to get.too critical about others' opinions on something as subjective as music, reading some of the critiques (both professional and not) the first thing that came to mind was pretentious hipster music. I think I'm actually more frustrated with reviews of the album than the album itself.

The Stranger by Billy Joel
Jan 04 2025

This is a cheat for my first album as I was already a huge Billy Joel fan. :)

Seventeen Seconds by The Cure
Jan 05 2025

Not a fan. The music is so subdued, I don't feel a connection to it. I don't find the lyrics anything special either.

Coat Of Many Colors by Dolly Parton
Jan 07 2025

What is like about classical country music is the stories they tell and Dolly Parton is a masterful storyteller. From the innocence and optimism of the title track to the loss of innocence in "If I Lose My Mind" her songs find a way to reach the listeners.

Let's Stay Together by Al Green
Jan 08 2025

Al Green's vocals are so smooth. Album only had 9 songs and it felt way too short, which is the only negative thing I can say about it.

Fun House by The Stooges
Jan 13 2025

This is a wild ride - kind of like a heavier version of The Doors on more drugs and I'm here for it. The music is raw and you can feel the mania and while the lyrics are pretty nonsensical, Iggy Pop's gritty vocals make you not really care and makes you want some of whatever he's on. I got introduced to Iggy much later in my musical development but I'll definitely be coming back to this album.

Doolittle by Pixies
Jan 14 2025

Pixies have such an eclectic sound. While not in my normal rotation I enjoy when they do pop up.

Run-D.M.C. by Run-D.M.C.
Jan 15 2025

The beginning of hip-hop's mainstream recognition. I miss when enunciation was as much a part of the genre as the beats.

Lazer Guided Melodies by Spiritualized
Jan 16 2025

The kind of music I expect to hear when I'm on hold when they clearly want me to hang up.

A Seat at the Table by Solange
Jan 17 2025

Musically uninspiring and thematically it's been done better by others.

Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Jan 18 2025

Prefer the "B-Sides" on this one to the ones that got more airplay.

Dummy by Portishead
Jan 25 2025
It's A Shame About Ray by The Lemonheads
Jan 27 2025

Reminiscent of a lot of 90s alt rock. Not horrible but I'd rather listen to Toad the Wet Spocket, Better than Ezra, or REM. The music from those bands connected more with me.

Soulless garbage. The only thing exceptional about this is that it's exceptionally bland.

Apr 24 2025

The problem with non-english speaking rap albums is that I have no idea how to judge their flow or word play. The album sounds fine but I can't tell you any more than that.

Regardless of what you think of hin or his music, this album has one of the greatest 5 song runs ever - it goes Thriller, Beat It, Billie Jean, Human Nature, and ends with PYT. When people speak of his greatness as an entertainer, this is what they are talking about.

Gold by Ryan Adams
Apr 30 2026

Ryan Adams is the guy that brings the guitar to every party but it doesn't really bother anyone because he sounds good. The only problem is he sounds like dozens of other guys like that too - there's nothing unique. The most glaring example of this is the fact that I thought his original song, When the Stars Go Blue, was just a poor cover of a Tim McGraw song. I was shocked to fi d this out, because it has so much less emotion than the cover. Anyway, not a fan of considering Adams as someone who is "must hear."
