Reviews (page 12 of 14)

Mało do dodania w stosunku do poprzedników.

take me out overshadows the rest of it. not unenjoyable, just not noteworthy

first listen bouncy indie rock

Landmark album of the post-punk revival in the 2000s. Alongside the likes of Interpol, Bloc Party, and the National, Franz Ferdinand laid down danceable drum beats with staccato guitar riffs to make for an energetic sound that drew heavily from the rise of indie rock at the time. The end product is okay. Take Me Out is a clear winner and The Dark of the Matinée is pretty good, but the rest isn't even reaching the same levels of quality. Coming back to this one after a while, I think it's better than what I remember but still not great by any means.

Hot and sleek like a state-of-the-art sports car, but a little samey in the end. "Take Me Out" is one of the great rocks songs of the last 20 years. Lack of perfect hooks across the rest of the record, however.

Not really feeling this one. it's just ok.

Good album. Very 00's!

not-new

Double up

Listened Before? N This one shaped up okay. I was NOT a fan of the first two tracks, but once Take Me Out kicked in, it got a lot better. I feel like the band put their filler tracks at the beginning. Pros: Great retro sound that was popular in the early 2000's and kinda sparked the modern "indie" sound. Good energy. Take Me Out and This Fire brought this one from a 1 * to a 3 * on their own. Cons: As mentioned - the first two tracks had me wondering if I was going to make it through. They're repetitive and boring. Take Me Out stands FAR above the rest of the album. I feel like this band didn't meet their potential. Added to Library? N Songs added to Playlist - Take Me Out, This Fire

Remember Take Me Out being quoted as the "best music for banging" in university due to it multiple rhythm and time changes. Definitely do as much as they can with the pop-punk-dance vibe without going over produced or electronic. Had it's time and place in the mid-2000s but I guess they sort of ran out of steam.

Nice to hear this again, I used to own this on CD. Some great singalong choruses on here but the best for me is THAT guitars & drums breakdown on Take Me Out. A bit like Pulp & the Arctic Monkeys. It’s all a bit samey though and Alex Kapranos’ voice isn’t very interesting.

Correct rock generique.

Cheating on you, the dark of the matinee oder auch this fire.

The singles Take Me Out and The Dark of the Matinee were staples in pubs and clubs when i was in university back in the early to mid 2000's (showing my age a bit here) so listening to this album is a bit of a nostalgia trip. Generally speaking the music is pleasant high octane guitar pop/rock. Overall it's lively and enjoyable enough but it's nothing special or particularly distinctive either.

I listened to this so much on first release. Don’t think I’ve heard it for 10 years

Likes this more than I remembered. Take me home is an absolute stinker of a tune. The rest is good enjoyable and I think I'd like them live.

Had some good songs on it.

'00s grunge-y pop singalongs for the theater kids. surprisingly easy listening

It’s ok. Take me out is way over played on the radio but it not a bad song

Very strong debut album. Lots of catchy tunes. Typical indie for that time. Definitely worth a listen.

Decent album but not a band that I could enjoy listening to.

Franz Ferdi-grand 👍🏾

Down with it! Was only familiar with 'Take Me Out' which I enjoyed well enough when it first came out. I like how a lot of the songs changed up the tempos throughout. And some good bass lines. Possibly a little redundant on the sound but can't fault someone for sounding like themselves. While only a 3 star rating, adding to my library is a better indication than my rating.

@SHACK - please, please take me out and show me your dart of pleasure. Please. This was a gateway album to a lot of post-punk classics for me, however having now absorbed those post-punk classics, this really does sound like a poor imitation.

It's not a one-hit wonder. It's a very cohesive album, couple pics I'd prefer over the single.

Classy album.

Other than, of course, Take Me Out, my favorite tracks were Tell Her Tonight, Dark of the Matinee, and Darts of Pleasure.

Stuð í þessu!

Clean and thematically even. I just got bored by track 4 or so.

70. Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand 11 tracks. I've never been a fan but maybe this album will change my mind. Nope. It's annoying "tinny" sound and the vocals really grate. I really don't like them. Sorry. 3/5

not bad almost good for me

One really well known song. The rest were just alright.

Reasonably solid. Take Me Out is definitely a stand-out, but the other songs are interesting in that it sounds like a modern take on classic Kinks. Not enough catchy to rate above average.

Fun party music. Has more of a late 80s sound to me, would have fit right in at college parties

Algunos hits que conocía y eran bien guapotes. Los otros temas ahí pasaban

I really enjoyed it ..

Not bad but probably wouldn’t seek it out

I knew what this was going into it

Not for me. It always felt a bit style of substance. The album was extremely one paced… which some people probably like!

I didn't know Franz Ferdinand. In this album, the best song is "Come on home".

Pretty good

It makes a statement. Well produced, good songwriting. Will it still be on the list in 10 years time?

Classic example of indie rock from the time I was growing up high school/college era. Never was that arsed about these guys but they had a some 'hits' at the time 🙄. Can appreciate it, prob worth a 3.

one really good song and the rest are meh 3.5

okay, did not seem to be unique to me.

Why listen to a full album of songs that sound different? I like Franz Ferdinand's debut album, but a must-listen? I wouldn't suggest that.

Mediocre. Singles are great

British 2004 indie rock. Good. Clasic.

Its a very enjoyable album and one of the best from that ‘new indie’ era. The singles stand out a mile (Take Me Out, Matinee, Michael) and marking it down one star because of the knowledge they went on to far better.

One hit song...that just so happens to be an absolute classic.

Take Me Out was such a phenomenal single, the rest of the album sounds like killers and strokes b sides.

High 6

Heard a few songs before so while enjoyable, nothing I loved or found that particularly interesting

Take me out!! One of those albums that had a one hit wonder and I never bothered listening to the rest. Now is my chance and this is an enjoyable album! Still a sort of brittish rock but there were some unique tunes within. They were definitely channeling their predecessors of rock. The album cover is very informative because that is the name of the album and also of the band.

What kinda guy listens to the Franz Ferdinand album instead of just the song? All of us now. Of course, "Take Me Out" is a timeless jam for me, I love it so dearly. The rest of this is pretty good, a few songs that I enjoyed but most of it pales in comparison to the standout. A good album to be sure, but not sure if it's worth inclusion on a list like this. Favorite tracks: Take Me Out, Jacqueline, 40', Auf Achse. Album art: Very simple, but strong. Really like the bold lettering and font. As far as simplicity goes, this one gets it right. 3.5/5

It’s okay, handful of good songs. Really enjoyed the guitar playing I must say.

This early 00s alternative album has one of the best songs from the 00s with take me out. The rest of the album holds up well. Part of it feels like the strokes. Others like arctic monkeys but not quite as refined. Overall it’s solid. 7.6/10

Slow start, but turns around after Take me Out. Take me out and Dark of the Matinee definate peak,

The epitome of a 3-star album. Solid musicianship and a good hit, but nothing out-there or interesting for my ears to grab onto.

I've seen Franz Ferdinand in concert, but as one of the opening acts for The Cure. "Take Me Out" is the one song I can realiably attribute to the band. The album was good, but I still don't feel much of a draw to listen to the musc again. "The Dark of the Matinée", "This Fire", and "Come on Home" are potential tracks worth a second listen.

Tiene algunos temazos, como Take Me Out o Matinée, pero no es mi tipo.

Pleasantly surprised.

Not a bad first album for the list. Punk/dance stuff was cool all the horny stuff was not

I distinctly remember listening to this record in my friend's car around the turn of the century. Take Me Out was the sound track to any number of fuzzy nights of imbibing and 20-somethings friendships. 20 years later...It's a fun, dancey, poppy rock record. None of the songs really live up to the funtime swagger of Take Me Out, but on their own every song on the record is decent. Not likely something I'll revisit a lot, but it was a pleasant listen for nostalgia's sake if nothing else. 3*

Enjoyable, but definitely gets boring in parts.

My opinion hasn’t changed since high school. It’s a fine album.

Take me out is a great song. Others are okay so far. (3/5)

Started off well but then every track sounded like the previous one. Quite disappointing

So fun and nostalgic!

Definitely enjoyable songs, but they all do tend to sound similar. The vocalist is hard to understand at times, but certainly distinctive. It's a good album, but I think the average listener would have to hear it about 10 times for the songs to stick. The best songs from the album are definitely Take me out and Michael. It was worth a listen just for Michael.

A throwback thatbwas only ok in retrospect. Some bangers but overall samey.

Good fun - some great guitar and well put together songs but no depth and leaves me with no desire to revisit despite having fun listening

Generally bored and not engaged with it, at this time.

Another album that didn't withstand the test of time. I awesome song, another good one, but the rest - meh.

3.5/5 interesting album, i'll have to relisten

Take me out ju!!!

Probably a 2.5 from me really. Was alright to listen to though, quite upbeat.

Really enjoyed listening to this ***

I liked it

Some good memories but not aged too well

Jacqueline mola

Haven't heard this fully before, take me home was a classic, the rest is alright

ihan jees, tuttuja hittejä mutta muutenkin toimii

So, this, along with a few albums from the Killers and The Strokes comprised pretty much all of what i listened to for a solid 6mos back in like 2008, lol. this album is a great listen to, with some great instrumentals, and good composition.

Very cool album, can't be listed to all the time however.

Interesting euro rock stuff

take.me.out

It's fine

Aardig

Pretty good - Take me Out is classic, the others are OK

Kind of middle of the road indie alt rock. I really liked the big Kinks vibe on the Dark Of the Matinee and also appreciated the self awareness but no other real standouts

Good stuff

Good driving music!

I was never that much of a fan of Franz Ferdinand at the time, the hits sounds a bit cheesy to me and not in a good way but I did enjoy this overall

This album wasn't my favorite, but I would listen to it again. That probably puts it in the 3 star category, so here you go!

got some fun electric lines in this one. and ofc the classic Take Me Out.

Very rocky, kinda reminded me of Queen

Tight and enjoyable

Decent post-punk revival album, it's ight, there is the iconic "Take Me Out" but there's a lot of mid songs on it

Nostalgia! Take me out was huge

It’s a good one but I still don’t see the full Monochrome Set influence

I dig it but they’re didn’t age that well in my opinion. Also, never would have guessed these guys were Scottish

Take you out

I'm at odds here. This is one of the first albums I remember owning, and Franz Ferdinand is one of the first bands I remember really liking. That being said, I'm trying to figure out whether I didn't like this album as much is due to changing musical tastes, or just the fact that I burned out a lot of these songs a long time ago. Still have an appreciation for a few, maybe I like their newer albums more? Weird. Favorite tracks: "Jacqueline", "The Dark of the Matinee", "Michael"

1st time listening. Recognized a few songs. Couple meh's in the mid. But definitely liked it. will listen to it again.

Had a flatmate who listened to this album a bit back in the mid 00s, didn't think much then. Was too much of this rock getting around at the time. These days it sounds like a fuckin masterpiece compared to half the shit that's come out since. 3/5.

Just ok for me, I hadn’t heard the whole Album before and only knew “take me out” which is definitely the best song.

it sounded like they had a formula they were going for and got it right once with Take Me Out

Music is reminiscent of early 2000's punk, so I enjoyed it. But the lyrics are so repetitive, I couldn't enjoy the songs as a whole.

when your mom says we have indie rock at home

It was just ok

Bland, boring

I bought this record when it came out on the strength and uniqueness of Take Me Out. Strangely I could never get into these guys or this album no matter how many listens I took. Twenty years later I’m realizing just how much the songs all sound alike. Same disco-y beats, same tempos, same overall feel. It’s really just a band clearly borrowing from other better groups like Wire, Television and Gang of Four.

Man, I just do not really like Franz Ferdinand. Weird bc it falls in my genre and popular at a time where I would be into it, but just doesn’t land for me. Them and Modest Mouse from this era just grind my gears. 2.25

Fairly boring. Even take me out doesn't really do it for me.

I really feel that I should have enjoyed this one more than I did. It just sounded like clunky messy noise to me though. The singles remind me of being in grotty student dives the rest of the album is all just pretty ... meh.

Boring at the time, somehow even duller now. 'Darts of Pleasure' is still a great song, and the first few tracks are catchy, but it's mostly just kind of a stompy mess of borrowed hooks and dull lyrics. The most remarkable thing about this for me is that I have intense memories of how much these guys had missed the dance-punk boat with this record - looking back, there's less than eighteen months between those highs and this release. What is time :\

it’s fine but I’m not a fan

Take Me Out is still a hit but the album wasn’t for me. Felt very overstimulating and loud 😟. I think I would’ve enjoyed the songs more in small doses but back to back in the album was a lot.

Not my fav and he kinda creeps me out

it's okay. 2

Indie rock album - All the songs are well made but very typical for the genre and fairly uninspired. There are a lot of interesting modulations and tempo / mood changes but I'm not a fan of a lot of them. Pros: I like the genre, the drums are tight, the mixing and effects are really great, interesting tempo changes and modulations Cons: I'm not a fan of a lot of the changes, songs typical of the genre, very samey, all predictable Songs I liked: Take Me Out (really well known song - I love the beginning but not so much the rest) Auf Achse (I like the instrumentation and arrangement a lot) Come on Home (Nice chords, cool instrumentation, pretty ending) 2/5 - Well made, nothing unpredictable or stand out

boring and repetitive imo, but in fairness its not really my preferred genre or style. ‘take me out’ is a classic but after that, nothing stuck out to me. dnf.

this music makes me feel exactly nothing

Princip was right. Shoot him.

Pretty cool, nothing I'm itching to hear again but overall a nice album

Flashbacks to SingStar. That's where this album lives in my memory, and revisiting it doesn't change the address much. The reputation is bigger than the content. A lot of it sounds the same, doesn't stay, and within songs it's repetitive and predictable. There's also something about the delivery — the singing especially — that reads as arrogant. Not necessarily intentionally, but it sounds like a band that thinks it's very cool while making music that is, fundamentally, quite simple. If the attitude matched the reality — "hey, we make fun dance music, enjoy" — I'd probably like them more. The gap between the pose and the product is the problem. "Take Me Out" is the obvious standout, and it earns it, repetitive as it is. But the real highlight is "Darts of Pleasure," specifically the moment it switches to: "Ich heiße Superfantastisch, ich trinke Schampus mit Lachsfisch." For about thirty seconds the whole cool-guy act collapses into pure absurdity, and the album is much better for it. More of that, please. 2/5.

Snoozefest. Boring mid-2000s polished indie rock.

Take Me Out is good, the rest is kinda bland.

Not many tracks that held my interest for long

Had know idea Take Me Out was this guy. Thought it was one of the more well known new wavy, alt-Indy outfits. No matter, it’s not for me. Everything about it says cheap Chinese knock-off. No sale.

Has a couple strong songs, besides that just an average pop album

not that bad tbh. cool uncle music. reminds me of an Australian unc bbq function where their all grilling sausages and drinking beer or whatever alcohol. 3 are probably smoking. oh and they play golf. reminds me of the colour brown and leather. not my cup of tea but its still good

they sure do love repeating the same line ten times in a row

Just poppy radio play

How can a band so annoying make something as good at Take Me Out

3/31/26. Never heard the full album before but have heard Take Me Out countless times. It's an OK album to my ears, fits squarely into the 2000s indie scene but not a lot of memorable tracks. Could listen to again but for now, just wasn't big into it.

Not for me I guess. Only so many songs in a row that I can listen to that same freaking drum beat. Even though this is technically indie or art rock or whatever, it just feels like pop to me. Simple, repetitive, decent. Not a bad listen, just not an inspired one. Fave tracks: - Jacqueline - Take Me Out - Cheating On You - Darts Of Pleasure - 40'

It's a good album—great '00s-style rock—but after the halfway point it starts to feel a bit repetitive. I liked the first few tracks, but the rest dragged on a bit.

Wasn't the biggest fan of it, nothing really stood out here for me as really memorable.

I don't hate it, but I don't like it either. Jaqueline was a good starter, started chill but then it exploded and I liked it. But as it went on there was nothing really impressive to highlight. I liked: Take Me Out (Guitar Hero gem), Auf Achse and Darts Of Pleasure.

I heard a little David Byrne in there but I didn’t much like the songwriting or production. They used a tinny megaphone-style filter over a lot of the vocals which I found kind of annoying.

I once saw Krist Novoselic of Nirvana on a book tour, probably around 2004. I mostly recall that he said he wanted to start a band called Gavrillo Princip. This album is why. Despite finding "Take Me Out" to be the definition of rich white millennium privilege rock, I did come into this willing to be surprised, and I almost was when "Jacqueline" opened as an introspective, soft number. But honestly I find this sort of thing banal. Don't get me wrong, I love my share of big dumb albums, but the self-seriousness is too much for this sort of thing. It's like someone formed a band out of "and now's the time on Sprockets when we dance," without understanding that it was a send up, or even understanding the art snobbery that was being sent up. Nothing feels earnest or honest, but it sure feels like they want us to think it is. 2* mostly because I feel 1* should mean something, but i really didnt enjoy thos experience. "Take Me Out" is the best track here.

Take me out is a great song, it’s just a pity that all the others sound like poor imitations of it! Oh yeah and the singers voice is a bit annoying.

I recognized “Take Me Out@ and I do like that song but the rest did not feel special to me, it wasn’t bad but it didn’t stick with me

Drab and uninspired dreck with the most obnoxious traits of 2000s indie rock amplified by 100.

Struggling to find stuff to say about this album, it's just very ok.

“Is ‘Float On’ on this album?” I said to myself, unintentionally insulting the whole chipper indie scene.

"Take Me Out" makes me a little nostalgic for playing Guitar Hero in high school. The rest of the album is a 'meh' from me. It's not bad; it's just not to my personal taste. I could work to it as background music, but I can't see myself seeking it out.

I never really liked this band, and truthfully I'm still not that into it whatsoever lol

Not timeless at all, very much of a time. And unfortunately even then I was not that into them. Understand why this is here though...

too indy

Oooof... all I knew of Franz Ferdinand was Take Me Out, and I finished this album thinking it's all I really needed to know.

Repetitive. Says matinee four times please ryeme with something else. Songwriting is horrible. GERMAN?

Muy aburrido. Envejeció muy mal.

not interested that much

I remember this album being all the rage when it came out. Meh.

These guy seem to be really popular. I don't get it. I do like a couple from them but not much else.

Some songs started to grow on me after a few listens. Not my general vibe however.

kinda boring, all songs sound the same

Not bad, but boring

I saw them as a support band and they were confident and full of energy, considering they were pretty much unknown at the time. I don’t think this has aged particularly well as what might have been exciting at the time is a bit beige now.

Might have been groundbreaking at the time but somehow does not stand the test of time. Or maybe I am less nostalgic about it than other indie-rock of the time.

I remember hearing the name Franz Ferdinand a lot 20 years ago, but I didn't recognize any of the songs... and I wonder why this album is on the 1001 list. It's not bad musics, but I didn't find it catchy or engaging or skillfully played. Just indie rock. Someone else enlighten me.

The early 00s loved this major label alt dreck. This sounds very familiar, either it wears its influences on its sleeve or everything from this time sounds similar to me. (I’m guessing the latter) Starts off with a surprisingly pleasant Jonathan Richman impression, then goes into an endless string of angular dancy alt rock that was everywhere at the time. I was never the audience for this and nothing has changed. And if I never hear Take Me Out again, I’d be OK with that.

god i wish alex would shut up. the rest of the band is great. malaise, empty streets, neon

banda escocesa de Indie Rock tell her tonight take me out cheating on you come on home

Meh. Very 2000s shout-sing rock with a thumping beat. A couple of good songs but overall just not for me. - Heard before? A song or two. - Will I listen again? No. - Does it inspire me to listen to more of this artist? No. Notable songs: Take Me Out, Dark of the Matinee, 40 Degrees

I dislike it personally. Take me out is alright but that's about it

Scottish derivative power post-punkish indie rock with nice abrasive and high-tuned guitars, but not much else to show.

Meh. Musically good and varied. More lively musically than most of the British indie pop bands of that day. Borrows heavily from Bowie’s art rock style. But I really can’t take that lyrical and vocal styling. Too whiny and self absorbed. A 2.

Personally felt like a mix of muse and artic monkeys I know they definitely have bangers in their albums but I'm not sure I care enough to go through each one to find each individual song I like

Sounds very well calculated.

i listened to half of it - it is good but i found it a bit repetitive at times so it was hard to just hear it the full way through.

Pants Turd-wee-bland

Much more boring than I remembered. It's one of the better 2000s indie albums but I just want to throw every Fender Telecaster in existence onto a ritual pyre tbh.

Only listened to a couple songs out of this album before the lackluster music and repetitive lyrics got to me. Maybe I'll try another listen some other time, but I doubt it.

★★½

the one song is the only one i know for a reason 😬

The energy really peaks with Take Me Out, after that it's all downhill. Standout Tracks: Take Me Out, Jacqueline

Eh, not my thing.

I tried liking this back in 2004 when Take Me Out was everywhere. It never really caught for me and that continues to this day. They are some interesting songs - Matinee, This Fire - but still lacking staying power. If it comes on I won’t change it. But I won’t seek it out either. 2/5

there's some really neat stuff here! the rest of it all sounds like the same song though

Boring

Better than I thought but still didnt love it.

Very forgettable album, this album makes me feel absolutely nothing. I wasn’t looking forward to listening to it as I don’t like the main song Take Me Out, and it was confirmed by the other songs on the album too. It is not bad music necessarily, but I have no idea how this made it to the 1001 albums to listen list.

Decent but not usually my kind of jam - a little too harsh for me

Take Me Out is a modern classic. Matinee is good. The rest of the album varied between tolerable and outright annoying.

Couple of really great songs but too much meh.

A couple of really great and fun songs but suffers from too much samey-ness. I appreciate the DIY vibe of the production and the highlights really shine, but by the time you get to the end of the album it's all a bit bland

#174/1001. Ok, se we all probably know Take me out. Let's see if rest of the album sounds the same. Well it does and songs are worse. Too many of these end up here, although this isn't really bad - just one ear in other ear out stuff.

Hasn’t held up as well as I hoped - while there are a lot of nostalgic and fun moments it doesn’t really hold together well as a complete album

Enjoyable listen, but not among my favorites.

Props to the bass player, but the lyrical repetition in all the choruses grows tedious real fast.

It's all right, but not a go-to album of mine or anything. Not massively inventive in and of itself, but angular and quirky enough at the time to carve out its own little alternative pop niche for a while. The album hasn't aged particularly well, but then nor has it degraded into full-on indie landfill embarassment like so many of their peers. Like I said, it's just kind of all right, and they always seemed like nice enough, humble chaps.

Jangly 00’s rock. Not that bad, but got very samey after 15 minutes or so. Played well, produced well. Just not overly interesting. Not essential to hear before you die.

Franz Ferdinand is a good band, just a little generic in the context of this list. After my past two albums, Black Sabbath and Fats Domino, Franz Ferdinand just isn’t on the same level. Perfectly fine 00’s alt rock, but nothing groundbreaking… I’d rather listen to Television… 4/10 Favorite tracks- “This Fire” “Darts of Pleasure”

Ehhhhh

One or two bright spots, but repetitive and derivative.

Yawn. Kind of a bore. Yes I can spot the influences, but they don't really bring anything new to the table.

Honestly a bit of a let-down; I had only really known their big single from this record and was a bit more familiar with the next record of theirs. There's a muscle and energy here that is undeniable but the songwriting is very same-same, it feels like one long forty-minute song.

Rather listen to the strokes, keane, something else.

Good enough debut album, shame the band didn't do anything significant after. Most songs are middle of the pack and nothing special, other than Take Me Out.

Enjoyable singles but always felt a bit hollow

Just utterly pointless Fav track: Take Me Out I guess

4/10. Solo me gusta "Take me out". El resto da un perezón del 15.

I’ve only heard Take Me Out from this album before. Turns out it’s the only one I really like. 2.5 stars.

only one well known song - probably for a reason

Hiten Take me out är ändå svängig, får jag medge. Även Dark of the matinee. Men annars… nej, rätt stelt och poänglöst.

I mean, it’s interesting as a footnote in 00s indie/dancepunk culture and there is the single, of course, but aside from wishing I was a size 28 and had a great tailor this had no impact on me whatsoever.

Was not my thing when it came out. It remains so now.

4/10 Favorite: Take Me Out

Competantly executed indie rock from the finger pointing dance Eeading / Leeds massive. They can certainly write catchy songs. They do the genre well. Just happens that I don't enjoy this genre much at all. A nice memory was an old roomate absolutely bopping to this. A not so nice memory was aggressive lads with bad haircuts in the Gloucester on Tuesday nights.

today i learned the term “landfill indie.”

This album seems like it would be good but something is not good about it. There’s some cool grooves for the most part but they get stale quick take me out is the best song on it which is all right. I remember when Modest Mouse had float on out and take me out was also a hit during that time and both songs have similar vibes and I just remember thinking damn the smile song is so much better. I don’t think that anyone needs to listen to this album before they die that’s that’s just my take

Oh boy. My memories are fonder than the reality and they arent really that sparkling to begin with. songs scatter from annoying, and catchy, and kinda fun, to just fucking annoying. 2.

Nothing groundbreaking here just a short collection of punchy pop rock tracks.

Was excited to hear the rest of these songs since I like their hit but was not impressed. Kept looking for skip forward to see if the next one would satisfy and it just didn't.

Not my taste

2 good songs - Take Me Out and This Fire. That's it. Everything else is a struggle to listen to.

Nothing special

There really is only one decent song on this album, and that's Take Me Out. The rest is pretty bland.

Besides Take Me Out, it’s pretty forgettable.

not really my type...

aside from take me out this is a forgettable album

Not a fan

Only one decent track

Don’t know about that one… it’s too pop-y for me

This is #day339 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… I've never liked this band. I get why they were a big deal in the 2000s indie/post-punk revival, but they never did anything for me. Do you need to hear this before you die? Put on Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not instead. That record captures everything about early '00s UK indie rock in a way this one doesn't. Also, and I won't pretend this doesn't matter, this is one of those bands that openly fetishize Russian culture while separating "the people" from their "mad leadership." The truth is, the whole country is a landfill. This is a 2 out of 5. Looking forward to #day340.

Some great tracks - but not as coherent of an album as an initial listening promises.

Take Me Out is great.

A very okay album. Nothing that special since their just the UK Strokes. Take Me Out became a huge hit for the 2000s indie rock era for some reason. The Strokes are better then this copy band and FF have not improved upon this record.

2 - it was fine but nothing hooked me

Another okay album. I’m underwhelmed by this list. This is a one-hit wonder.

This band has always felt like filler music to me? Like, this sort of thing was popular in this era and so this group was shoved in the spotlight. Whether it was their time or they were milked by the machine or both I cannot say that I enjoy what they make.

The Strokes and The Hives had a baby and named him Franz.

First listen, I was hoping for maybe something a little more. Realized it sounds like a bunch of other bands from that era. Nothing really trail-blazing or original. Some catchy pop in there. 2nd time through ....felt the same as the first.

Not a fan of Scottish Cardigans.

as the very wise dude from wallows/13 reasons why once said: “she was only 17.. why are girls in songs always 17?” i didn’t know these guys r scottish from the like 2 songs of theirs that get radio play! now aside from the fun accents and cliche opening lines etc, i do suppose they have some pretty catchy bass lines and fun guitar riffs, but overall i don’t think i actually enjoyed this very much or at all tbh. it’s like a cross between early arctic monkeys and the strokes, and idk if it’s just because i’m in a bad mood because there’s no ac in the office or because i’m already overly emotionally attached to the aforementioned bands or what. perhaps i revisit this one again when i’m not being boiled alive, but it’s a no from me today dawg. p.s. the og franz ferdinand was assassinated in my city so it’s only fitting that i assassinate them in my 1001 albums ratings

Apart from the singles is much if a muchness , just indie pop

Could’ve had another strokes album but instead we got this. Aright band with one great song. Come on Home was good too. Most of this album reads like bad high school relationship drama, real lame. Feeling a mid 2/5 on this, disappointing

Escuché solo los primeros tres temas. Muy lindo pero ya no tengo 15 años.

Forgettable

Irritating. Annoying. Not good.

Remembered this as good, it is fine

After 3 songs, I thought maybe I misjudged this band back in the day. Nope.

I mean it’s got an early aughts rock cool factor, but I just don’t think this is that good

Inoffensive background music

It's ok but not really my jam.

Litt kjedelig

It's an okay album maybe just not my thing.

Take me out is good. I just did not enjoy the rest of the album.

It's a good song but a bit much to play it 11 times in a row.

Have listened a few times over the years. Just not my thing

I remember this sounding quite OK at the time it was released. Now it just irritates me. This post punk revival did bring to light few decent bands like Editors and Interpol, but Franz Ferdinand's indie disco already feels quite outdated.

Feels like repeat. At release time of this album I would have given more starts but now this just feels like same old same old.

Maybe those few songs from this album were played so much on the radio back in the day that it completely killed my desire to listen to Franz Ferdinand at all. So yeah, this one’s not my cup of tea.

I already feel I've listened to this album as part of this project, many times. Again, it's not a bad album, just more of the same. I get nothing out of this type of music, except maybe a tinge of boredom.

Is this a good album or did they just blow up with a massive hit that sounds like a straight rip off of Modest Mouse? I honestly don't know the answer to that question. Either way, I doubt this is essential or something that you must hear before you die.

Not my jam

only "take me out" is worth a listen, the rest is indy landfill

Bit of a one hit album, odd inclusion

Very meh, much blah. Better than the Killers, though. Would not revisit, but not awful.

Nostalgia doing most of the heavy lifting here. Mostly just repetitive noise with an affected voice. Some bops though. Take Me Out will never not get me to a dancefloor.

Another darling of the early oughts post punk revival indie rock. It’s funny to review something like this with historical perspective. I mean, it’s fine? Not earth shattering, just nice music. I have to say that I was aware of Franz Ferdinand when they broke out but I didn’t really like them and their contemporaries (I mean some did stand out, like The Strokes or Bloc Party). It’s all pretty derivative and not very interesting. Dunno, if you like this then go listen to Mission of Burma or Wire or something. Two stars.

Pretty one dimensional sound and flow wise. Tight group good sound.

love these vibes and styles I LOVE 'Take Me Out', knew it before but I really do love that song and rarely skip it, which says a lot The others are all a little too 'alt' for me, I think, a little too unconventional It's kinda giving Billy Joel gone rogue...gone indie rock

I recall the hype surrounding the release of this album. Intrigued, I decided to buy it to hear the buzz. However, I was not particularly impressed at the time, and my opinion remains unchanged. Franz Ferdinand's blend of quasi-new wave and rock, characterized by its jangly and jerky guitar riffs, is largely unremarkable and frequently comes across as a lackluster effort to embody a snarky hipster vibe. Aside from "Dark of the Matinee," the remaining tracks fail to leave any lasting impression. Overall, it is simply loud(ish), yet boring.

Not memorable honestly

It's kinda all the same song

It’s a real bummer to be faced with music from my youth and reckon with the idea that I am not able to say to snot-nosed youths, “Ya know, back in my day…” Most of the cool stuff was already a photocopy of a photocopy of the end of cool stuff, and that stinks.
