Fast and bulbous indeed. I can definitely appreciate why this isn't everyone's cup of tea, but It's quite enjoyable once you get underneath the thorny surface. Like Lewis Carroll's poem Jabberwocky, what seems to be utter nonsense leaves itself open to many delightful interpretations. You have to be quite good to do something so strange that is willingly dense and lacking in universal appeal.
I do admit to being a fan before hearing this thanks to a love of the album Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller). That's my five star Beefheart album.
