Reading the reviews here you’d think this is the dullest record on the planet earth but I was happily blown away. It’s subtle, grungey, energetic and accessible in all the right ways. The first song is probably weakest for me which may have turned people off. 4.5/5 rounded up, great stuff!

Was not in the right frame of mind for the blues so it’s on me that I give it this score. One day I’ll try it again.

Breaking the Girl and Under the Bridge are high points but the rest kind of blends into one big jam which appealed to me much more when I was 15.

Never been a fan of their music so was expecting to not enjoy this but it was a decent album.

Fantastic album with a lot of energy and positive vibes.

Street Life (the song) was fantastic and really is the album. The remaining songs are good but are more like a jam. This is a very good one song album

The title track Purple Rain is a 5/5 powerhouse but I actively didn’t really like the other tracks on this album so I’m going down the middle with my rating.

This was difficult to rate. The mixing was really bad at times completely drowning out the vocals with distortion. At time I couldn’t tell if lyrics were actually being sang! However the tracks either go from okay/passable to really good which makes the mixing a bit of a shame. I thought I’d get bored of this but I kept listening. I would give a 3/5 but because of the mixing I have to give 2.

Very close to a five star album for me. Every song is good, but it’s missing one killer hit. I love what sounds like a transitional sound between 80s and 90s, I love the Bowie influence and I was hooked for the whole record. I could well come back to this and see it as a five star album but right now it just falls shy.

This was a 5/5 when I first heard it when I was 15 and unlike a lot of these albums which don’t hold up, this is still a 5/5 now. Still absolutely amazing.

I can tell this is a good album but for some reason I’m just not a fan of the sound of the singers voice. It’s not that it’s bad, but more that it’s not for me. I know there’s albums I find to be 5/5 albums that other people would say the same thing for. Unfortunately as good as I could tell this album is, I just couldn’t enjoy it.

Cautious about Group Sex, was a bit messy and finished quicker than I thought but a good time was had by all.

For someone who had a lot of music to express after naturally being stuck behind the wall of McCartney/Lennon, George Harrison really didn’t disappoint. In fact he produced a monster of an album which still outshines any other post-Beatles solo record. This album is a full realisation of George Harrison’s talents. Every song is full of life, energy, moving lyrics and amazing instrumental performances. I’m trying not to reference any of the background information to this album because the music alone is 5/5 for me but the story of the Beatles breakup and this albums creation compliments this as one of my favourite records. I’ve seen some reviews on here talk about how long this record is and how they aren’t going to bother listening to 2 hours of music. My argument is what is the right length for a musical experience? In the 60s the Beatles made full albums popular. Prior to that singles were all what anyone cared about in popular music. That proved that our attention spans were longer than 3 minutes and could at least hit an hour. Live performances were also very short in length at the time but nowadays we go to live gigs which are 3 plus hours in length. The Beatles proved albums were a viable expression of art rather than singles and this album shows that a 2 hour long album works. Should an album only be 8 songs or 10 songs? In George Harrison’s case he had all of this music to provide at once and I think it’s incredibly honest of him to just get it out there and not hold on to it for multiple short albums. It shows where he was at that time in his life and every song is a hit (yes I even love the informal Apple Jams at the very end…again why not put it out there for others to enjoy). Put it on, sit back and relax…or get up and dance to one of the best records of all time.

This album was unexpectedly really good! It’s taken a lot of chances on different styles, most I love and one or two I know I’d skip on re-listens.

Enter Sandman was shown to me at 14 years old and began multiple years of Metallica being my favourite band. The Black Album was never my favourite record by them, I always preferred their riskier sounds in their earlier and later work (yes I’m a fan of their later work). However I can’t deny the significance of this record, its global scope, and personally how many of its songs impacted me. Top songs for me: Enter Sandman The Unforgiven Wherever I May Roam Nothing Else Matters Of Wolf And Man (as cheesy as it is) My Friend Of Misery Worse songs: Sad But True (known by fans as the pissbreak song) Don’t Tread On Me (groan) Overall 4/5, slightly ‘stock’ but undeniably good

This is an album which makes me have to consider my rating for a good while. I had to do a second listen through in order to make my decision and it’s going to have to go as a 3/5. I absolutely love just under half of this album…but the rest not so much. With the style of these songs I feel they have to click or not and there isn’t an in-between. The songs which I do dig I put more weight on than the songs which simply do not click with me and so this has to land on a 3/5.

Horror electronic jazz fake movie soundtrack…give this a proper chance and you will be rewarded, holy shit.
