Middle of the road. Especially for Paul Simon. He made way better albums and songs

The best background music. Does exactly what it says on the packaging
Nothing sounded the same but it did feel like a cohesive piece. Really amazed by it, maybe they weren't all winners but overall 5 stars
Not offensive or necesseraly bad, but just too damn long. Everything starts to sound the same, which is not helped by the fact that the main drum pattern is the basis for drum n bass. Two stars for pioneering a gene
I really dislike the smug voice of this ass muppet

All Ratings
The mellow parts were nice. Some good songs some not. Sometimes too much noise at once for too long. Not something I would put on unless in a very specific mood.
Some good music in there. Not everything stuck, but overall a good listen. I didnt take in a lot of lyrics which might change my view on subsequent listens.
Ok, but completely forgettable
Some nice atmospheric music in the first part, 2nd part was ok.
3,5 stars. Didnt really listen to punk before but it was alright. Holiday in Cambodia was the only track i knew but also the best.
Some good stuff in there, some parts were just a little bit less to my taste to give it 5 stars.
Fun for one song, gets monotonous real fast.
Never wanting to hear don't you want me, it was a little better than expected
A bit long, so long that it got a bit monotonous. The flow was excellent, the skits a lot less. I can appreciate the quality, but will not listen to the full album again.
Too boring for me. Maybe i neee to give it another listen and find the intricacies.
Hate his voice. Music was sometimes alright
Not as bad as some reviews suggest. But still not very good, stretches the definition of music.
Forgettable
Hate the screeching vocals by one of them. The instrumentals and beats were nixe though. But the vocals make me want to not listen to it again.
Some solid drums going on. But maybe a bit too long and forgettable in the end.
Good stuff
I really don't get the hype. Don't like the vocals from Nico. Lou Reeds vocals also are all over the place. Weird ending to the album.
I prefwr the arctic monkeys
Maggot brain is so good it elevates the rest of the album
Like a cheap version of Boston. Some forgettable stuff, but also some bangers.
Hard one to rate, there were some nice tunes. Nice work music
A bit long, but some very nice songs
Dont care for punk.
Normally i skip revolution 9, but even with it, it remains a good album
Angry white british music
A bit too long, but some very good songs on here.
Way too long to consider it one album. The first disc was more consistent than the 2nd.
Hard to rate. Since english is not my first language the lyrics do not always register as sentences in my brain. There were some good beats and i like the style of rapping 3,5/5
Really non-abrasive. But still sounds original, before they went with the safe cookie cutter pop sound.
Hard to rate. But i enjoyed it overall.
I really dont know what to think of this. There are some good sections and some horrible parts.
Pretty good. Might even be 5 star.
Eazy-E cant rap, but the rest was solid.
The oboe made it sound real theatry in a bad way. Forgettable.
Weird, 3.5 stars.
The slow songs really dragged the score down. The rest were very good.
Boring bland background elevator music.
Really solid classic rock n roll. In the current time it sounds old. In the 50s it would be 5/5
Worde than i expected.
I got really annoyed by the music. I almost wanted to turn it off, but preserved. Bets track was the last instrumental track. God I hate this music style.
Good classic sounding rock. Mostly simple things, but you can hear the start of something more complex forming.
Suprised, didnt know this artist. Solid album.
Good work music. Solid beats.
Instrumentation was solid. Vocals are very different from the other tim buckley album i got. Coincidentally the other was before led zepplins first album and this one after. To me he sounds like he got inspired by robert plant but it just doesnt work for me.
I really dont like rem. But the album was better than i expected.
Solid rock. Apparently clapton is not the best person in real life, but that shouldn't impact this album.
Ok
Good stuff
Didnt like the vocal performance and the instrumentals were dull
Kind of liked it. I dont get the hate.
decent
Forgettable
I like rock and this is perfectly adequate.
Kind of liked it. Very spacey and full of jams. Bit too long
Meh
Good stuff. Interesting and nice drums
Once in a lifetime is a good song, the rest was not as good. Worse than I would have thought.
Generic sitar music
Decent EDM, but nothing special
ok, but forgetable
I would have assumed I would like it, but it was too long and not very inspiring.
2 stars for the two good songs. Other albums i do enjoy from gorillaz, but this wasnt for me
Better than I expected. But aleo too long. I went from liking to dislikong to liking the experience. 3.5 rounded up. Dont think i will ever sitt through the whole album again.
Nice
It was ok. English isn't my first language so not all lyrics register subconsciously when listening to it while working.
Definitely some block rocking beats. Bit on the long side
Solid stuff
Forgot I listened to it the minute the last song ended. Not bad just super forgetable
Dont like david lee roths voice
Better than expected
Actually really liked it
4,5. Good blues
There was some good music in there, but nothing that stands out.
Nice, good songs. Bad outro.
Forgettable and bland
Meh
I really don't like the smugness in bonos voice. The music behind it was ok
Good shit
Man, this is tough to rate. The vocals were very rough at most points, but the longer it went on the more I started to enjoy it. Solid music but held back by the vocals
Not my type of music. I like loud music, I like quiet music .but this loud quiet loud is not for me
I named my dog Ringo, so of course everything from the Beatles is 5 stars. Really like nowhere man, but there are so many good songs to pick from
Half of the songs I know and are bangers. The other I don't know and didn't really stay with me except for Kim. What an emotional song
Good stuff
Not for me. In 2023 it's sounds to generic.
Hard to rate. Was it awesome, no. Was it bad, no. Were there things I liked. Almost all of it because it was so inoffensive. Background music for in the morning. 3,5 stars.
Boring and I hate the way the singer has to manipulate his voice to get the high notes. It really started to frustrate me at the end to the point where I was wishing it was over. Is it worse than duckstab or einsturzende neubauten, not really, but it wasn't more interesting.
It was long and alright. It is famous for the crowds reactions, but they are not in the recording...
The instrumentals were good, but the singing rapping really started to be annoying at the end where I was happy it was over.
I know it's influential. But as a European, the message and lyrics just dont have the impact I see it having on other people
I came so close to turning it off. Angry British ranting over mediocre music. I hate this music style. Do yourself a favour and look up the original tracklist and stop after music scene.
It was good, but not exceptional.
Good stuff, I didn't understand a word but the music was very good.
4.5 stars. Really nice actually
Omg, so bland and too long.
The hits are good, but they did some weird shit in between
Good stuff, maybe a bit long and not as good as rumours. Tusk, the song. Is a banger
Nice proto metal. Something about a lot of the 60s vocals really rubs me the wrong way, this band included.
They can properly sing. But it became quite similar the longer it went on
Good stuff
Meh, some good tracks, some bad. The whole thing sounded disjointed.
It's ok
I believe the hype
I get why it's on the list, but it's just not special in 2023
Some very good stuff in here. Ratamahatta was the biggest surprise and sticks in my head. Canyon jam was too long and unnecessary, for that -1 star.
Don't care for punk but at least the vocals on this were not the typical british shit. 1 star extra for the clearer vocals
It was ok
Not really my thing. I liked the bass driven sound, but something just doesn't work for me. Maybe the disinterested sounding vocals.
I always liked the beatles better. I dont know if it is the vocals by mick jagger or the jangly guitar that turns me off, but I dont like the stones that much. That said, the hits of the album are good.
Coincidentally I got the first Arcade Fire album the day before this one. I liked this one more. It sounded bigger. Cool that they recorded in a church and also the use of the organ.
Its not bad. I get that it was influential, but everything it influenced is better.
Sounds so good
blegh
Good music is your in the right mood. I can imagine it sounded revolutionary in the 90s. A bit long though
The basis is good. But I like the live album more. 3,5 stars
It feels like they don't know what they wanted to make. Indie rock, triphop, hiphop, world music. An incoherent and too long result that drags on.
Good prog stuff
The yes album was better. 3,5 stars
Waterloo sunset is a good song. The rest is forgettable
It's southern rock for 90 minutes. Nothing special in the music. Nothing special in the vocals. Sometimes lyrics that go beyond muh Alabama and skynyrd
Suprised by this one. But dont think ill go back to it
Nice old jazzy music
I just don't like the vocals and the emphasis on the organ. The doors is just a band that I don't get. There was better guitar work in there than I would have assumed
Never heard of this band. Will probably never hear of them again
Doesnt do anything special. Why is it on this list
Really surprised how good this was. A single piano and all improvised.
God, I hate this band. The vocals are so grating. It doesn't matter if they did innovative stuff with sampling when this is the music you make. I hope I don't have to listen to the Beastie boys anymore.
Alright, but not too special
The alive 2007 remixes are miles better. Too repetitive for its own good, but the start of something good
Using a jazz band for rock gave it an interesting sound. Especially the drums are wild. Opinion is significantly influenced by Bowie's death two days later.
Really liked some songs on here. Sometimes Bowie's vocals aren't the easiest on the ears
Alright pop
Something about hearing this much Portuguese just rubbed me the wrong way. Musically it was fine, I got a bit sick of the monkey drum at the end though. The cover also unsettles me, what is up with that hazy photo and the weird eyes
The only good thing was the length
Alright big band jazz
It all sounds the same
Why does it sound like the vocalist is in another room shouting, and the second vocalist is even further away shouting harder. The vocals really started to annoy, the music became quite stale after a while. Some good songs but an overall meh expierence
Blegh
Good songs, heard the foundation for some modern bands in here. But didn't really like the vocals
It felt like listening to a video game car radio. Except video games give credits to the artist. Apparently this guy didn't and just straight up stole all songs and packaged them in a funky hiphop package
Maybe not the best Beatles album but sti find it better than everything else from the period
It was ok. Better than expected, but sometimes too simplistic. Liked that it had the feel of one coherent album.
Didn't expect to know so many songs already. Really brought the rating down with the last song which just sounded like noise. Also not the biggest fan of the other two noisier tracks, but I can understand why this album became so huge
Wanna take a baaAAAATH???
Ok depression music
Alright cheesy background rock
Don't care for the doors, but it was not terrible. Just not for me
I can give it two stars for it being very old and therefore probably influential to other americana folk people. It was too long and why was there yodeling. Not my type of music. 2 stars because the one star reviews are reserved for the real special turds.
Tough to rate. Some good stuff, especially into the mystic. But overall not very memorable
They hit the right kind of manic energy that really drives the music forward. Lyrics are a bit dodgy maybe, but overall a very nice experience
Inoffensive background or bedroom music. Nothing piqued my interest. One star for an album an you should listen to in your life, but compared to some absolute turds on this list I give it two stars
Maybe i wasnt in the right mood for it. But it did not grip me as I would have thought reading the reviews. Might have to revisit
What is there to say that hasn't already been said
Dark and moody but not that memorable
Living in another world is a banger. The rest was also a nice listen.
Such a good album
Quite liked some songs. Dylan's voice keeps being difficult. Not a native speaker so a lot of the intricacies of the writing are lost when listening and working at the same time
Doesn't belong in this list, all sounds the same. One hit wonders
2,5 stars. Never listened to this much reggae before. It was ok
Exactly the kind of indie rock beats I like. Never heard of them before. Vocals can be a bit meh knocking it down to 4 stars
4,5 but not as good as the work of the Beatles. Something was just missing. Overall a very nice experience but I cannot help but compare it to the Beatles and round it down
Feels a bit disjointed. Going from without you to coconut is quite the transition. I was impressed by the drums on jump into the fire prompting me to read up on the drummer. Apparently the guy suffered from schizophrenia and murdered his mother.
What is this. Shitty 80s androgynous music. Nothing worth remembering. 1.5 stars, it did not make me actively hate it, but it came close.
Good first half with some nice tunes. Classics 60s rock. But what the hell was that 2nd half, weird stuff with not even good songs
Could have died without hearing this. Inoffensive Bossa Nova
Some good rock tunes
Classic country. Dolly does have a good voice.
Nothing sounded the same but it did feel like a cohesive piece. Really amazed by it, maybe they weren't all winners but overall 5 stars
Not for me
Not offensive or necesseraly bad, but just too damn long. Everything starts to sound the same, which is not helped by the fact that the main drum pattern is the basis for drum n bass. Two stars for pioneering a gene
The best background music. Does exactly what it says on the packaging
Classic rock. Not blown away, but not bad. The hits from the album deserve to be hits. The rest was more forgettable
Cool and atmospheric. Not as good as mezzanine, but a hell of a lot better than some other albums in this list
Better than other punk and postpunk. But still not my musical style. That long blues song on the end really dragged on and the score down
not as good as I thought it would be. The songs that arent the greatest hits are not played for a reason. What is up with kiss the teacher, ick.
Very nicely captures the spirit of loneliness and depression. Really resonated with me.
2 80s 4 me
More ambient and instrumental music than I expected based on the hit single. Not bad, but it didn't feel like a complete Bowie album.
Not memorable and a bad sign if the autoplay tracks after it left more of an impression
The vocals and lyrics really are the weakest part, it was nice not everything was guitar masturbation. But in the end it all sounded the same. 3 stars for the hits
It doesn't evoke any emotion. It sound s dated. It's just too bland to give it 1 star so 2 it is. Also so edgy and cool to put a hidden track after 3 minutes of silence
Dreamy vocals. Sometimes I wondered if it was English. But it didn't leave a lasting impression. Already forgot I listened to it
It's insane how you can create so much from chopped up parts of songs from bargain bin vinyl. Really good music to work/study with
Not for me
Must have been a bad year for music if this broke records
Why are these weirdos so popular. I needed a palette cleanse after 17 minutes of noise. Best bit of trivia is the engineer left the room during recording of sister ray since he couldn't stand the noise.
Don't have much to say about it. Nice music from a bygone era
Really hard to judge it 60+ years later. It's not bad, just very old.
Why are all these hip hop albums an hour or longer. Really outstayed it's welcome. Eminem's verses were the best and showed a stark contrast in ability
I dig this
Good music, but a bit long and the vocal style takes it down a star.
I really dislike punk, this is better than the stuff from the sex pistols and everything after it, but still not my type of music
Good alt rock
Weird electric poppy high singing music
Ok but to long
Better than I expected. It didn't drag or outstay its welcome
Weird b cuts apparently. Did not deserve to be on the list
Really liked this album, but it just feels a bit generic at some points. Which keeps it from 5 stars
I don't like his singing style for more than 4 songs. It started to really bore me near the end.
Was really dreading this based on the description, but actually liked it a lot better. The driving beats and bass really make this album. You can really hear the beginning of industrial rock starting.
Its just really good and im noticing that I like almost all jazz albums on this list
Ok but not great, nothing besides the singles stood out.
Bad glam rock, it adds nothing except the idea where ac/DC got their sound
Alright
I really dislike the smug voice of this ass muppet
Really not that good. I understand back to Black being on this list, but this album is really a step down
Eh, not the best. Surprising Glynn Johns called this the best album he is associated with seeing how he worked with the stones, Beatles led zeppelin and the who....
Worse than his first album, boring and not for me
Hard to rate. I understand how influential this was, but I didn't particularly enjoy the album as a whole
Very nice
Nah this guy doesn't deserve 4 places on this list
Middle of the road. Especially for Paul Simon. He made way better albums and songs
3 stars for the music, 1 star for belonging on this list. The fuzzy sound was already one before and better by the yardbirds. Don't know why these people would be influential
Better than I expected. Where punk stars to become grunge.
This is the way to play a Hammond organ. I can't help but think of the doors when I heard this album. Except I like this and dislike the doors, especially because of the organ
Not for me
Placed in context probably higher. But it just doesn't hold up, the message is a powerful song though
The beats were good, the lyrics a lot less. Hiphop has come a long way since the chronic and I don't think I will ever listen to this album again.
Really dislike his voice. Instrumentation was ok
This doesn't belong on this list. They have other albums with more hits. At the end of the album is a song called don't give up, which felt like it was taunting me that I was still listening it and couldn't turn it off. Also there is a song with random moaning. Screw this album, never want to hear this again.
I hope they fall
A breath of fresh air after some days with bad albums. Really like the drums in this album. It did feel a bit long but I was never bored.
Good stuff
Didn't like it at all. Too abrasive for me
More like bored of Canada. Inoffensive background music
Good shit
I don't get the hype.
Ya man
Ok musically sometimes. Too long and annoying at the worst times. Why is this on the list? Did anyone get inspired by this, are they influential. I dont know
The singles were dope and deserve 5 stars. The rest was a bit more forgettable
He sounds so far up his own ass that he can sing from his mouth again
Ok, but very middle of the road. Better than boring, worse than good
I really don't understand the Velvet Underground
Middle of the road, there was some interesting arrangemente going on. But the singing ir lyrics didn't grab me
I agree with another review.sounds like the smiths with a little bit less arrogance
Really good stuff. Watch the documentary on Netflix if you want to know more about the stuff Kanye when through to get the album made. Doesn't detract from what he has become now. But this album on its own is good. Only didn't like the 12 minute ending song
Why is this on the list? Not bad not memorable
It's hard to put into words what I like or don't like. I know there was a certain hype around this album so I'm glad I listened to it, but it just didn't resonate with me
It takes real skill to play this. It takes a madman to come up with it. It takes a special person to like it. I can hear some snippets of genius in there, but the overall album is too jarring, I'd rather listen to clowncore.
The big hits make the album, the rest was alright. I dont get the hate.
Background boogie. Nothing stood out.
The best
The only good thing about the album is the length and even then it felt longer than 15 minutes
As a white European, most of it is lost on me. You could hear the anger and the beats were goood, but I wouldn't listen to it again
As the opening notes started the mood was set. The music was played to death to insinuate sex, but I really wonder how this sounded when it was new and without the current direct link to sex. Overall the album was smooth and enjoyable
My disdain for this genre grows with every shitty album I have to listen to from this list.
Acceptable cheesy rock. I found the screaming from Steven Tyler less annoying in this album. I think for an Aerosmith album this was nicely balanced
Nice and dreamy, could listen to this again during a quiet morning
Going from a very nice goldfrapp album the day before to this is a bit jarring. It reads like it's the same genre and everything, but this was way worse than goldfrapp. Would not listen to it again.
The man had energy. Halfway through I felt a bit bored, but it picked up again. I can see why they didn't want to release this to not alienate the white pop audience
The first time an album caught me by surprise with a so g I know but didn't know it was from this artist. There are some good tunes on here, but nothing groundbreaking. There is a lot worse rock on this list so I'll give it a pass.
A way too long compilation album of different artists doesnt deserve to be on this list. The other shit Drum n Bass album is enough
Really not my thing
Really nice chill hip hop. Interesting samples and nice bars. WIll definitly listen again
really not my style of hiphop
Ok
Emotional music. Didn't really give it full attention, but it still grips you.
Solid rock. Started to drag at the end
Not the album with their hits. Still goes hard, but I really don't know if I liked it or not, it went up and down. I think I would have appreciated the other album more
Really good metal album. Aggresive enough, but not too overpowering.
The middle songs were alright. But it all sounded too long and too boring. Why is there a 8 min feedback song....
1 star for somebody to love and 1 star for white rabbit. The rest was annoying hippie folk. Not something I like to listen to. Something about the way the guy sings really rubs me the wrong way.
Middle of the road. Classic rock
I dont know why this man has so many albums on this list. It al sounds the same. Tales about death and misery
Cheesy, but nice. Was really vibing with it.
Elton John said it's good so it must be heard before you die? I don't agree that this is in this list. I forgot most of it the moment the album ended, only the feeling of wanting it to end is remembered.
Nah, annoying voice. Nothing noteworthy
Interesting. I expected more noise being one of the big proto punk albums, but it was a lot better than I expected. It's still grounded in rock and is more melodic than I would have thought. Pleasantly surprised
Alright, but would have expected the first album which has the bigger hit.
Really not so bad compared to other bottom tier albums on this list. Not as noisy as I anticipated, but in the end not very memorable, not even in a bad way. Semi liked the opening track, but after it it all sounded alike after a while
Beep boop, Europe express. Beep boop
God I hate this album cover. Really takes it down one star
I hate the way this guy sings. Don't is just noise, not in a good way. I don't get this
I don't get why the police is such a massive band
Historical impactful. Some of the lesser known songs were nice, but by the end I got really sick of the acoustic guitar, whiny voice, harmonica repeating structure.
Meh
Surprised to see it on this list. Really like the Arctic monkeys and this is a good extension from Alex Turner. It did get weaker near the end. Might listen to the whole album again sometime
God I hate U2, the smug voice of Bono just really rubs me the wrong way. Everything sounds the same. Absolutely forgetabble human turd music.
Why this album... They made way better songs later on. It doesn't deserve to be on this list.
Not as bad as I thought it would be. More instrumental than I assumed. Some songs with statements, but ultimately too long
The songs were nice and sometimes very good. But man, the static crackling and talking/skits really drag down the quality.
Good stuff. I like the Beatles and there were some interesting tracks here, did feel a bit angry sometimes at Paul/the beatles
Boring eighties stuff. The title couldnt be more correct.
Weird and experimental. Amazing that it's so old. 2nd side felt like a trip but it was interesting
Shitty indian music infused with jungle. Near the end they go Deng de Deng de Deng deng deng for 2 minutes. It felt like an eternity. Horrible.
I quite liked it. But it did feel a bit long and the album cover irks me. There is also no song that I actively looked up the title to listen to it again, but the total package is nice.
Really dragged down by being a non native English speaker and taking in the lyrics. It just becomes bland singer songwriter stuff when you take away the lyricism. Perhaps I need to come back someday and give it a focussed listen
Amazing how they went from their debut to this. There is some genuine songwriting and music going on
There is nothing to be said that hasn't already been said in other reviews. Doesn't deserve a spot on this list.
Punk pop rock but very watered down. Not that I like punk, but this sounds too tame
No
Oh man, why has this guy 2 albums on this list. At least put actual movie scores on here instead of this. Too much xylophone and too incoherent
Alright
Not bad, but I don't really feel like listening to it again. There were some good parts but also it was a bit long. Didn't feel like there really was an overarching story, which was supposed to be there
I really liked this actually. Does it need to be on this list? Maybe not, its never a good sign if the album isnt in the top albums from spotify, but nevertheles I liked it. There was more going on in variety and quality then some other electronic records on this list.
Angels and let me entertain you, one star each. The rest is forgettable background music. My wife asked after more than half of the cd, is it all Robbie Williams you're playing? She didnt register that yes. It was all Robbie Williams
Even though it is a bit formulaic. They damn perfected the formula.
Surprisingly I quite liked it. Is this when post punk became good? Interesting musically. I dislike the vocals. They still sing like British punk and I absolutely do not like that
4,5 stars. I always had problems with the vocals. But the music is banging
I hate this British punk
It was alright. A bit rougher rock than what I expected. Stil, Neil young's vocals are not my thing.
I have listened to this album multiple times before starting this list. It took a while to grow on me, but the driving beat makes it a listen I cannot let go off. Especially the bass is working magic driving the music onward
I don't know. It faded into the background a bit. Nothing really gripped me
The better I knew a part, the more I enjoyed it. Which meant that the beginning was very good and it was downhill after that. I have heard part 1 multiple times fully so I appreciated the build up to the tubular bells. But part 2 I had never heard and I don't know what it added to the overall experience. Was it even the same song, it felt disconnected. On the wiki somebody had said that it was a shame that Oldfield mashed his 4 demos into one song, and I agree. But still, 4 stars for the amazing buildup and layering of sound.
4.5 stars. it sounds completely unique . I cant imagine what effort it took doing it all analogue. Half a star off because I dont know if i will ever listen to it again.
God I hate this band. Why do they have 3 albums (at least) on this list. Hopefully this was the last. Musically better than the other ones but the guy has the vocals delivery of a dominos employee at 2 am
I liked it more than expected. Near the end I heard enough. But the first half I really liked. 1000 dollar wedding sounds cheap these days
Very middle of the road. It might have been influential, but the vocals and lyrics of rod Steward sounds dated and written without much thought. Were they written at all. Becks bolero is the highlight, it's all instrumental
Meh vocals over okay music. Forgettable and long
meh.I have a big distaste for punk, but it was intersting that it was mostly acoustic. Surprised I recognised two songs.
It's alright. But I don't know if it is even the best album from her. It will probably and rightfully be removed in future editions
Moody Nick Cave music. I always think I am missing something deep in the lyrics when casually listening, but when I look at the lyrics I still don't get it.
It sounds so dated. I het they were pioneers, but the style of hiphop has changed soooo much.
Mellow and funky, defintly worth a listen in the morning when needing focus.
A nothingburger of music. I can't give it one star because it didn't even generate any sort of negative emotions. Just emptiness
Actually really enjoyed it. Might listen again. It's also not some landmark album you need to hear before you die, it feels too young for this list. It wouldn't surprise me if it is removed in new versions of the book.
Might be important in the history of music. But for me it didn't give any emotions.
One verve album on this list is understandable and enough. It isn't this album though
ALright 90s rock but nothing really special. Maybe worth 3 stars, but I dont remember even one song after a day...
The first half is where the meat is. The rest feels like padding. Interesting fact: Trevor Horn signed them as the first act for his new label and worked his ass of to make it succesful.
I listened to it twice. I knew killing moon, but the rest of the album became a bit of a blur. Even the next morning in a more relaxed setting it didn't really give new insights.
Something about the way the vocals are recorded drags the whole thing down. Wasn't expecting a black Sabbath cover though.
It might have a place in history, but it all sounds very novel to me. Not enough to be blown away.
I kind of dig the vibe they got. But something about just didnt click. Too laid back but too gangster at the same time. 2,5 stars
Liked it
A bit underwhelming. Does not deserve to be on this list. It sounded a lot like white lies, don't know if they are inspired by this band, but white lies took this sound and made it a lot better. Don't listen to this, listen to white lies
Alright, but more derivative than innovative
Some hit songs with padding. The better stuff started happening after buffalo Springfield
It was musically alright. Different than the bulk of the albums I listened to here. However, the lyrics and length of the album really drag it down
I most of the orchestration and music. But it did sound like an old man trying to be young. Something about it made it sound like an imitation of the beach Boys but I can't put my finger on it.
Meh specials
The singles are absolute bangers. The drums are legendary. I already liked slipknot, but to the people who dont like this, I hope you enjoy the fourth Tim Buckley album. At least this album makes you feel something.
The bass slaps. Overall enjoyable. Funny reading hating reviews for this kick-starting nu-metal, when the previous album was slipknot which I enjoyed more
Didn't expect this. Liked it, don't know if I'll ever remember to listen to it again though
Interesting
The "story" was a bit weird and contrived, but the music was good. Very nice how they used the overture theme through different songs, really tied the album together. I can imagine this was a revelation in 69
Alright, but doesn't even contain his biggest hit(s)
sympathy for the devil carries the album
Noise and unbearable lyrics. After the album was over a song from the follow up album came on which sounded similar, but more polished and way better. Why is this album on the list?
I like this style of music for a bit. It's interesting how you can create complete new songs and meanings from cutting and pasting
Liked the English versions more than the French ones. Overall really liked the energy and sound. I was pleasantly surprised and woke up the next with one song stuck in my head even
Meh
There was some interesting sounds on here. But not worth another listen. At least it wasn't long
First thought it was the hives, from which I already had an album which I very much disliked. But the Vines are at least better. I can hear the nirvana comparison with the shouting. But the songs without shouting are actually the better songs I found. Also became a bit long, was waiting for it to end. Not the worst not the best album
It was alright. I can understand the hype at the time. But it isn't for me.
Background music. I don't get why it is so highly regarded
As a white European this doesn't resonate with me. I like the sampling, I like some of the raps. I liked some of the hype flava Flav brings. But overall it felt way too long and started to become annoying. Maybe if I had more connection to the subject matter would I rate it higher. I'm for sure never listening to the whole album again
The second half was worse than the first half. I liked the other album more than this. It certainly is unique.
Insane what you can create with so many different samples. 4 stars for the music, 1 extra for creativity
There is some cool stuff going on, but a full album of this guy's singing is too much
Good swing music. Really gives the space to different instruments. Overall good but not so excellent that I would rate it 5 stars.
Sometimes weird, sometimes very good. The final song was..... Interesting. I can imagine this blew people's minds when it first released. Completely unlike anything else at the time
Better than most folk on this list. His voice is the saving part. Compared to Tim Buckley for instance Fred is so warm and full. Weird jam session at the end though.
I can understand it being on this list. A good fusion of electronic, ambient and Latin Music. Better than the Latin jazz, but still not something for me
Its different than most albums on this list. Also its not really an album, being 32min long. Interesting themes that you dont hear much in this list. I really liked anderson paaks part. But nothing else makes it go higher than middle of the road for me. I doubt this album would remain in future iterations of the book.
Interesting. I only knew the 80s hits from them and was surprised to see a 13th album from a band on this list. It sounds very inspired by the Beatles with the string and orchestra arrangements. I liked the first half but the second half didn't really capture my attention. Overall a nice experience and a lot better than most middle of the road albums that I gave 3 stars.
Nah, too much shit punk on this list
A punk album with a singer who can sing which makes it 1 star better than most. God I hate punk
Too laid back for me and way too long. It all sounds the same
God, shitty singer in a 70s punk band. I have heard enough of these. The music at least was a little better than most punk
There is some interesting stuff here. But I don't think they need two albums on this list
Man, there is too much punk or post or proto or whatever punk on this list. I liked Paul Weller's later output better. This is being dragged down by the shitty way English punks from this era "sing"
I quote from the book itself: we have also taken the step of excluding any bonus tracks from the track listings, as these were not part of the original package. Save yourself the time and stop after grey/afro. the rest is not in the book.
The ability of cd's to store more music made albums longer and longer. Why did no one stop this man from putting an hour of his brain farts on this album. Maybe I would have liked it better if it was shorter, but after the stupid song with his "deep lyrics" and going "woah" after them, the album started to really get on my nerves. Two stars for the music, -1 for the length.
Intersting, I knew nothing about this artist. Liked the sound, but it felt like music for parents in the 60's.
It is interesting and unique, but the sealand song really dragged it down.
Better than expected since I can't stand u2. Bonos voice sounds so whiney on certain points, but overall decent
I listened to the original album tracklist. Liked the energy.
It was certainly refreshing to get a more unconventional album. Don't think I will ever listen to it again but I am a little bit more enriched in my music knowledge
Utter nonsense. Like others said, a demo tape with ideas that could have been expended on.
Good stuff. I liked the explanation in the beginning. I am a huge Beatles fan and the influence Ravi had on george makes me like it a bit more
Such a powerful voice and album. Listened to the same songs again from the extended edition because it was so good
Why is there so much wannabe film music on this list. At least put an actual film score like Lord of the rings on it rather than this slop. Annoyingly bad.
Not for, the vocal style really puts me off. The disco song annoyed my wife
The best of the so far 3 albums by them
Too long and too random. Too much use of the drum machine which makes it sound very dated.
Quite liked it. More melodic than some other electronic albums on this list. Too long though
Not for me. As a white European I can't relate to the black American experience. The beats and style also sound dated. I like a tribe called quest, but this was not for me. Best song was the song with all the guests from their collective.
Acceptable, but the droning shoegaze ending really drags it down. Won't ever listen to it again.
Really good. Liked the energy and social commentary. Also liked the automatic Spotify suggestions after it. Music that gets you moving
Slumped a bit in the middle, but maps elevated it and there are some interesting things going on musically. It also reminded me of the white strips, but instead of a man singing falsetto it is an actual woman which I liked better. Overall an enjoyable album
It still confuses me how he went from this to ambient music. An interesting album nonetheless, but not one I will revisit
I have listened to these songs countless times, but not really the full album. Its all good. I especially like the melodic bass playing of Paul.
Background techno. Too long, too boring. It didn't stand out. This album has their biggest hit added with the deluxe edition, but I didn't listen to the deluxe edition. I hope the electronic music on this list doesn't only consist of British artist. But I'm afraid it will be....
1 star for the annoying vocals. 3 for the music
I like pink Floyd. But like most people only the stuff after meddle. This is a bit too far out for me. Random whimsical lyrics. There are hints at what the band can become. With the longer prog songs. Fun to listen to once, but not for repeat
A bit weird at times, but the music is really interesting. Didnt care that much for peter Gabriels genesis vocals, Phil's song was an interesting break in the album.
Too 90s 4 me
Nothing burger of music. Forgotten the moment it ended. Maybe if I was a native English speaker I would appreciate it more.
Good stuff. Easy listening but layered with interesting stuff.
Melancholic and not too grating
I like the intensity, but the later albums are better I think. Still, there are some awesome drums and riffs on this album.
Something about the Portuguese language really distracted me from the music and made me feel annoyed with the album. I was glad when it was over.
A bit long, but there are some really cool songs and ideas on this album. Don't think they should have went for the double album directly, else it would be 5 star.
It was alright. Background music for a döner shop
There was something nice and peaceful about it, but it didn't hit me like for some other people
God I hate REM, mostly because of shiny happy people, what a shit song. But this album, looking at it objectively and not as an rem album, is kind of Ok. It doesn't sound like the 80s, the bass lines are good, there are some interesting drums and guitars going on. And then Michael stipe ruins it with his voice. REM is not for me, but this was kind of Ok, a begrudging 3 stars
Only knew about Richard Hawley from an Arctic monkeys b side. Liked the album, it was smooth and easy, but also nice to listen too.
Not for me. Too punky for grunge, too inconsistent and overall nothing really stuck out
Strange but cool. Liked the sax.
Tough to rate. I liked the start, but by the end I had enough. An interesting album nonetheless and glad the generator put it in.
Weird and all over the place. Not really memorable.
Kanye is completely of the rails in 2025, but I can understand why he got as big as he did. His music style is like no other, his rapping is less impressive.
Would have expected more or better based on the two hit songs I know from the album. Kind of disappointed because of the higher expectations
It's ok
Very bland
His vocals really start to annoy me. Like he is pinching every last drop of pitch out of his throat. To high and forced
I liked the music a lot more than the annoying vocals. 3 stars on the strength of the music
Why does this guy have ( at least) 2 albums on this list. It was indistinguishable from Scott 1 since I didn't notice when Spotify just played on after the album. There was nothing wrong with the music but Scott walker doesn't deserve multiple spots on this list
I liked it, classical music in a prog manner. Some interesting things happening.
Interesting, I can't imagine the skill needed to create these soundscapes.
Expected to like it more. But it got a bit samey near the end. Wasn't really paying attention anymore. I like the production and flow and would happily listen to a song or two in a larger playlist, but a whole album is too much.
It was alright I guess. Nothing really gripping or memorable except for a weird louder song in the middle which also suddenly stopped, but that might be the YouTube version.
Kinda cool. Interesting guitar work and drums. A nice mix between punk and indie or folk or something. It doesn't sound like anything else.
Sounded nice. Not a bad song on there. But it didn't elevate to a higher level.
I don't like the vocal delivery from b-real which really knocked the rating down. Won't listen again
Rip Ozzy. Yesterday a lot of people got a black Sabbath album because of it. I really liked it, absolutely trend setting album. It felt a bit long towards the end though. Such a strong opening though. Somewhere between 4 and 5 stars, but since Ozzy just died and because of the influence it gets rounded to 5. Their later albums are just a bit better I think though
A little interesting. Dual bass in a band is unuasal, but it didn't really come through. Nothing stood out, will not listen again
Alright, but not super good. A nice listen once, but I won't play it again.
I was prepared for some weird an abrasive stuff, but what I got was not as bad as what I thought it would be. There was some interesting experimentation going on and it reminded me a bit of some tool songs, the death threats answering machine, some dark sound loop songs. Not super bad in the end. Compared to Einsturzede Neubaten this is a stroll in the park, therefore I can't give it 1 star. I won't listen to it again, but for a record made in the 70s, it was ahead of it's time.
One of the first albums, next to daft punks alive, to get me into electronic music. I just sounds so grandiose. I really liked to listen to it again after some years of not really listening to it anymore. The opening is just so good.
Something different than their big hits. But not for me.
A staple of blues, something very different from most of this list. However, it felt a bit long.
Middle of the road. Music for parents.
Alright
Back to back low rated albums. Id rather listen to lightning bolt again though. This was too weird and drug influenced for me. A comical amount of kazoo and harpsichord. I can imagine this was eye opening in the 60s, one of the first 8 track recordings making a more layerd sound, but more doesn't mean better. Will not listen again
I didn't know this movie so have absolutely no idea what the music should accompany. I read the synopsis of the movie though. It sounds alright, but if we are allowing movie scores, the Lord of the rings should be here instead of this.
I liked it. Different from their biggest hits, but that made it more unique and fresh.
I expected more, I can't put it into words. It wasn't bad but it was very similar
I assumed this album was around the same time as blink 182 and limp Bizkit. It is a bit older which surprised me. I know the two hits, but the rest was very samey and forgettable, the last song seemed ok. But by then I had lost interest. Good music for skateboarding though.
I didn't like it at all. The country accent was too thick. The guitar too twangy. Nothing for me here.
Alright, but nothing that stands out. Already forgot everything about it one day later
I have not listened to much bob dylan in my life. I know some hits, some I like some I dont. But something about this album made me understand the hype better. I still dont get it entirely and should maybe dig into the lyrics more to fully get it, but something about it just works. I am hestitant to give it 5 stars, but it definitely deserves to be on this list.
I used to dislike oasis with a passion. After watching a documentary about them I started to appreciate it a bit more. Liam still can't sing and the songs by noel are better, but overall the album sounds really good. I do hate wonderwall, it used to be the standard campfire song with an acoustic guitar and I really really hate acoustic guitars around a campfire and people singing along even more shitty than Liam sang it
Really liked the album and triphop as a genre. It still sounds fresh today.
Not for me. The vocals really annoyed me and took away any possible satisfaction
Obviously important to future music with the most sampled beats of all time. As an album though, it was ok. I like drums and can appreciate it, but it felt a bit one note. Also, half of the album on Spotify is the second album , the original track list stops after bongo rock. The drop off to kiburi felt noticable. Do yourself a favour and stop after bongo rock.
I don't like her vibrato but the songs were nice.
It works as an album. But there is so much insane stuf going on I don't know how to rate it. I wouldn't listen to it again, but it stays with you. It could be any rating and I would agree, but purely on the relistenbility, 2 stars.
Good stuff, dropped off near the end but a welcome album to listen to
Good flow of the album. Didn't particularly liked his voice on some tracks. The lyrics are deep and say something, but I had too look them up to understand them
Too long, another victim of the CD, like much of the 90s. Not bad music but it felt soooo bloated. Will not listen again
Meh
An early concept album. But a bit too lightweight for me. The harpsichord really gets overused for my taste giving it a little bit too much theatrical vibe
Sad music played happy
I am not black, so it didn't really resonate with me as it might have. I liked some things in the album. Wildfires is a nice song. It does get bogged down in repetition and the total length and amount of songs 2,5 stars
Really good songs. A bit on the mellow side, but a very good album nonetheless
I liked his voice and most songs. I didn't know it was so Christian heavy before I started which put me off a little bit. Not a bad album but a bit too sweet and preachy
It feels like it rides on the big hits and that it got big due to mtv
I don't like punk.
It felt really long and the guy just likes to sing long notes. I was wishing for it to be over. I am scared that the book has want two in it, meaning I might have to slog through another album....
Actually kind of enjoyable. A bit kitsch maybe, but I enjoyed so hey, 4 stars.
Liked it. Some sick experimentation going on with creating some of these sounds. Also some tracks becoming more ambient, foreshadowing Eno's shift(or creation) of that genre
Its no nonsense rock. Ace of spades is a banger and there are some nice tunes on the album -1 stars for jailbait....
Weird that the genre is shoegaze when apparently the guy didn't use pedals to create the effects. But man what a sonic distortion and what a story. All to end up with layers of sound and unintelligible lyrics
I only knew tom trauberts blues by Tom waits. It was always an interesting song with a confrontational voice. But this record, I was not prepared. It feels crazy but in an awesome way. I was never bored during listening. It doesn't become stale, toms voice adds complexion and the instrumentation is crazy in a good way. Interested to see if there is more Tom waits on this list.
Not for me
A really nice surprise. Reminded me of the black keys turn blue album. A bit classic rock, a bit prog and definitely a nice listen
Apparently I already listened to their other album. I couldn't remember a single song from it, I only recognized the album cover. I have the feeling this will also happen with this album. I might understand why it was on this list, there is something foundational about it, but nothing grips you. The 18 min jam song was a bit much
It was nice. Not exactly my type of music but an enjoyable listen
Maybe important to history, but dated today
I knew the title track. But the rest of the album is surprisingly nice also. Heavy and fun.
All these folk and social commentary albums do not hit the mark for me. Even with the lyrics open I didn't care for it. The music and voice did nothing for me.
A bit like a worse public enemy. It didn't resonate with me.
Almost fell asleep. Kind of the point I guess. Some nice songs but very long winded
Middle of the road. Not bad, but I forgot it the moment I stopped listening. In a year I won't remember having listened to this
I listened to the original track list only. It was okay
The more albums from the 90s I get, the more it becomes clear that the CD gave too much room for filler. The good tracks are good, but it becomes too much after a while. A classic, but a bit one note near the end
Fun time, take your mamma out is a good song. I stayed for the bonus tracks which indicates to me that it was a good time listening
I can enjoy the mood the national have in their songs. A bit melancholic and sad, but beautiful. A couple of songs are nice, but a full album becomes a bit too much of the same.
Good, but I hope this isn't the only one by her on this list. Not her strongest album, but some nice more unknown songs
Only negative was the weird Jamaica song
Better than the first album. But the singers voice isn't my favourite. Also, did this band really deserve two albums on this list?
I can understand the importance and appreciate that it is not fully punk, but i didn't particularly care for anything. Weird that the singer became a lounge act later in his career ....
Good and varied, somewhere above 4 but below 5 stars.
It's weird that such an old album made the list when there is so little information about it on Wikipedia. You would expect a long list of influenced artists or whatever. But it looks like it just is here to give people an idea about old Cuban music. It's fine for what it is, but why is this on the list.
Ended just in time. A good album without filler. Funky.
Enjoyable soulfoul music. Focused on guitar, but there is more to it than that.
I don't know if it is shit or genius. What a weird album. It kind of works over the course of a full album. Blinded by the lights was a good song. His flow is really weird, it could be 1 or 5 stars, so 3 it is
Solid blues rock. Not groundbreaking but enjoyable. Does it deserve to be on this list? Maybe not. But it is for sure a lot better than some other albums on this list.
I like metal. But the voice of this singer has always put me off. It sounds a lot more like aggressive punk. Not a bad album overall, but I won't revisit it. Also interesting that (for me at least) the loudness of the album was significantly lower than the metal songs that Spotify automatically played after the album ended
A different sound than other rockbands from the 00s, but nothing mind-blowing
Alright jam jazz rock
At least it was short
The music was nice. But everything else about the album made me feel gross. 1 star, say no to pedophelia
Nick Cave grunting and screaming about stuff with disjointed guitars. It works in the chaos, but it's chaos nonetheless
I don't know what to make of it. It's country. It does what country does
Absolutely didn't need to be on this list. Every album by these guys is on here. This was more of the same and not relevant anymore. Not groundbreaking, just more distorted guitar droning with whispery vocals
An interesting piece of history, but not something I would seek out. Seeing the performances on YouTube, I can imagine it was a jarring band in the 60s
Such a sense album. I don't know if everything works and if the length is justified. But the total package is just really good. I can imagine that it would be even better if you're a black American. 4,5 rounded up
Acoustic guitar noodling. Not bad, but not my style of music. I dont remember much from it after one day.
I only listened to the original album tracklist, since a lot of comments complained about the length. The original album is just really well performed big band jazz music and there is absolutely nothing I can complain about. It stands so far away from most albums on this list that it is a welcome change in pace.
I feel like giving this a one. I hate the vocals of this guy. This whole project has showed me that I don't like these whispery talky high pitched "singers" worst among them Nick Drake. Just thinking about this album again puts me in a bad mood. Why is the band also like 8 people if there is so little music being played. Why is this band multiple times on this list. Just bad vibes all around. Does it deserve 1 star, probably not, but I don't feel like giving it more.
Cool for them that they were influential, but I didn't hear anything I liked
Bossa Nova isn't my jam and the sum of the two parts here is less than the individual contributions
Not a bad album necessarily, but not really my jam. Jay z doesn't rap in a way that grips me. The eminem verse on the other hand was uplifting. Production and beats on the album are also really good
Weird
I hated her voice on the banana album. I hated it here. Nothing noteworthy in this album. A stupid flute to push the rating down to one. Hopefully I forget this exists
5 stars for deservedly being on this list and the impact. The opening notes and build up is just something else. Actual rating would be closer to 4 stars, later led Zeppelin is no doubt better and not every song is 5 stars worthy, but the complete package and impact is undeniable
Just a fun time all around. Enough diversity in the individual songs with the Asian influences. It made me want to dance, making the titel of the album a good indication of the fun time waiting to be had when playing the album
Man, this was some weird shit.
Good flow. Sounds like classic us hip hop. Enough interesting variation between the songs, but a bit long. The auto play song after the album was solaar pleure, which was a very good track.
I really like the dire straits, also this album. But in all honesty I feel like it is missing something.
Nice beats. Latin influenced hiphop and very diverse. Too bad it isn't on Spotify and the YouTube playlist is incomplete
Weird and all over the place.
Too pop for me, the other pet shop boys albums on this list sounded better
There is some wild stuff on here. The album is all over the place, but in a sort of good way. Standout track is solsbury hill, and it's not even close
The most bland version of an edgy band possible.
It sounds like dexys midnight runners but somehow even worse.
The musicianship is good, the songs are ok, but it feels like watered down CSNY
A bit up it's own ass maybe, but some really good stuff going on. The second side is a bit hit and miss though
Absolutely deserves to be on the list because of the significance of creating albums. But it's a bit meh and the same. Not bad but nothing noteworthy
Meh. The guy sounded bored and it brought nothing new or exciting to the table
The music was alright. But it was a bit too long and meandering. By the end I couldn't stand to hear Stephens voice anymore and wanted it to be over. The beginning was nice and had some nice transitions, but it started to lose me on the 2nd side
I was enjoying the first three or so songs. Turns out that's where the hits ended and it became a bit boring and generic. Sometimes I had the feeling it was Christina Aguilera singing, didn't know they sounded so alike.
I was afraid to play it at the volume they probably intended, but it was some good high energy stuff
Really really weird prog jazz stuff. I have respect for creating this in the time it was made. But the atonal sax really destroyed any joy I could find in the music, when the dude started "singing" I was really starting to get annoyed. A fever dream of an album
A very sad and heartfelt album. A lot better than the other Björk album on this list. The vulnerability elevates the album and works with the type of music she makes
I was hesitant going into this album having not really understood and liked their Christmas song. But the rest of the album slaps and has infectious energy. The guy can't sing and has less teeth than a baby. But it works
It was alright. Classic hiphop
It was really nice. The vocals are really good and the songs serve them well. I don't remember anything however after one day so it has no big impact beyond leaving a feeling of, it was nice
Infectious grooves, made for dancing. It gets a bit monotonous after a while though, the songs seem to go on forever
What is there to say. It's just a really good album back to front. Even the songs that aren't hits are good
5 stars if it was 1001 albums you need to listen to when waking up. But it is not, it was an absolutely forgettable album.
It was all over the place. There were some interesting songs on here and I enjoyed it overall, but it was so disjointed that I couldn't really see it as a coherent album. The Wall Street shuffle is a good song
Sounds like a bad mix of oasis and the stone Roses. The vocals of the singer really started to wear on me, combined with the uninspiring music and lyrics the total package became very bland and forgettable.
What is there to say that hasn't been said
They create some really interesting songs on this album, but I feel that if it was a nameless band I wouldnt score it 5 stars, so 4 it is.
A bit self-indulgent at times with the vocal acrobatics. But, unlike his father, Jeff had the decency to put some actual good music under his songs elevating the whole above the stuff his father made, which I couldn't stand and I hope after 4? Albums I hope he doesn't show up anymore. Anyway Jeff is better than tim
Oh my god I hate this British punk style of singing so much that I don't even know if the music was any good. Please, no more punk or post punk I am so done with the genre
I really liked rain dogs and was ready for more interesting Tom waits. But it feels like everything done here is a bit worse, which makes sense since it's the earlier album. So if I'm in the mood for weird Tom waits music. I'll always take rain dogs over this album
Really good. Would have expected that the other album would be on here with cold little heart and love and hate, but this album hits the same marks for me. Good music, good emotional voice, enough variation but a consistent package
Not for me. But an interesting album in the list, solely because it's African
Background music
Better than I expected, jack white is hit or miss for me, but the energy on this album was on point
Aggressively bad at some points (punk love, jazz something) too long for sure. The vocals are annoying on some (maybe all) tracks. It's way too long. The book of love is the only song I know from the cover by some guy( not Peter Gabriel) and I always skip the song. I havent even finished the album yet, I will, but it is just so blegh. The music is also all over the place and mostly not noteworthy or bad. I was convinced I had heard a song already halfway the album... I can keep going about the things I dislike but will stop to not make the review too long, something this band should have done
After 69 love songs this was a very welcome album. Nice layered harmonies, funky instrumentation and chill songs. At parts it sounded like the beach boys/Brian Wilson on other parts it was very reminiscent of Gerry Rafferty. Overall a nice album
Background music. Not bad but not good
Hauntingly beautiful vocals. The two songs I already knew were the highlight (grounds for divorce and one day like this). But the rest of the album was also interesting.
Starts of really strong but loses some steam in the 2nd half. It is a very good album and I wished there were more albums of this quality on the list
I liked the a side better where there was some slow stuff and then fast stuff. The b side was really just a sonic bombardment. I kept the lyrics open, no way in hell that all words were pronounced. 1,5 stars. It's better than einsturzende neubauten and duck stab. But thats about it
It started out alright, but after the random telephone noises it got a bit worse
Good 80s stuff. I don't know why everybody is complaining. I had a fun time, the Beatles cover was a bit meh though
Absolutely influential. Not something I would listen to often, but its place on the list is well deserved
Influential and still holds up well. It might be a low 5 stars, but the influence makes it 5
Some songs really started to drag on. I was really done with it by the end and then the stupid new York song came and knocked off another star
Background music
Banger of an album
The explanation was that it was supposed to be like tripping. Mission achieved, but I dont think this was for me. My enjoyment went up and down and was mostly hampered by Rungren's singing.
Energetic female indierock? Post punk? Middle of the road. Don't remember anything from it after the weekend
Interesting album. Some nice compositions and use of stereo. Definitely improved by listening on headphones. Reading up on their history was a trip, unfortunate that nothing good ever came after this album from them.
Nonsense
Good stuff, mellow music. But I think reggae is not able to reach 5 stars due to the repetitive rythym.
I remembered the name from the other album on this list and was not looking forward to it. My notes only said the singer had an annoying voice. Thankfully they improved their sound on this album and his singing became a lot more tolerable. Combined with some grandiose arrangements it became quite a solid album. The middle part drags it down though and sometimes it becomes a bit too much and over the top, the statements from the press about it being too pretentious make sense. 3,5 stars
Half the time he sings in an annoying way. The harpsichord or whatever is really not suited for rock music, it immediately sounds like theater. I dont know what to make of this, maybe I'm not British or English speaking enough to fully grasp it
Funky, but I agree with the reviews on this site that a soundtrack in the list is a bit a a stretch
I dont know what to think. They constantly sound to bored to sing but have this aggressive music under it. Not my style
I feel violated, like the music has sex with me. Not my style of music at all.
A good album, but it is definitly on the long side.
I remember my dad bought this album and dvd because he was a huge Beatles fan and Paul McCartney played on the album. I always thought it was a weird album cover hiding some bizarre music. I was correct
Like a female nirvana or pixies. The loud soft loud approach to music. Not really my style but not really bad either
The 14th album by a singer over his peak (I guess, I don't know anything else from him) and a producer over his peak. I struggled to remember what album I had yesterday. Nothing stood out
I like the killers and expected big things from the deep cuts from this album since the hits are so big. Alas, it is really front loaded. The opening is still absolutely brilliant, the bass and drums on jenny are so good. The second half of the album really drags it down to 4 stars.
I am beginning to notice that I really don't like white guys singing everything in their falsetto voice. It always sounds to strained. The vocals really take away from my enjoyment, it might be a good album musically. But I don't like it
Desert blues, I don't know what ry cooder did on the album
Some good shit, Stevie wonder really knows how to make a unique funky record. Not the strongest of the classic Line up, but way better than some other albums on the list
Dark and moody. The whole album is a good listen
Duran Duran did it better
I like the live album stop making sense. It was my first introduciton to the talking heads and every song on that album is ingrained in my brain. Hearing the original versions on this album makes it sound weird. The songs are too similiar and I dont think this is their best work
It was alright. Goth rock at its peak I would guess
Too long and too self indulgent. I flipped through the book to see what else came out the year this came out and there were some absolutely classic albums there, this shouldn't be on the list
Difficult to rate. I know how enthusiastic people are about nirvana and this album, but it just doesn't resonate with me. I kind of liked it but I wouldnt listen to the whole album again. The highlight however is the last song, which pushes the rating up a bit
I understand why she is legendary. It sounds really unique and sincere. But ultimatetly it has the same problem a lot of old 50s albums have. It all starts to sound the same
Dark and heavy on most parts. I liked it. But there is definitely better music out there
Boring music for old people
Fun and diverse with a beat that makes you want to move.
I don't like punk, so why would I like proto punk. The energy was alright and at least it wasn't the British punk where the singers sound really bad, but it just sounded like a mess ending in 60s prog punk combination.
A heartfelt album about his messy divorce. Really nice and laid back, but still heartfelt and sharp sometimes
It was okay. I don't understand why there are two albums by this band on the list. Its better than the other album, but the review on this site comparing it to the ingredients of cake, while not being cake is spot on
Steely Dan made some expertly crafted albums. Compared to some others on this list it's 5 stars. Compared to their own albums it's less. So holding it to the higher standard of something you need to have heard before you die, I would pick some of their other albums
Grandiose, epic, over the top and a favourite album of mine. Musically it hits all the right marks and the vocals are epic. I don't understand what happens in someone's brain to give this 1 star. I would be really curious to hear with their perception
I don't get the hype this album received. It might be that in time it's eclipsed by so many other artists that it doesn't generate the same emotion as when it came out, but I don't feel the need to listen to it again
It's haunting and mellow. I don't think I will listen to it again, but I feel the pain of the singer in the music
Still somewhat put off by Peter Gabriëls shouting vocals sometimes. But the rest of the album was a very nice experience. Drum heavy with interesting parts. Biko is a beautiful and important song
A nice album with some good social commentary. But not really my thing.
The hits are so good and still hold up well the rest of the album is also good but not 5 star good
I said I wouldn't remember the other album by him in a year in my review, I was right and it wasn't even 6 months. His voice suits the music and it is all very inoffensive. At least it is a short album about love and not four discs containing 69 love songs... .... Looking at you magnetic fields. Just on the fact that this guy had the decency to make it half an hour makes it 3 stars
It's a nice short blues album of one of the best blues players. Good energy, but ultimately, all blues start to sounds similar
The foundation for something fun is here. The beginning of the madchester scene, but the polish is severely lacking
Punk with horns, ok good for them. Still dont like punk.
The songs sounds promising in their weird structures and build ups. But ultimately it doesnt deliver on what I would expect. Not very bad, but just not for me. Maybe there is something deeper to be found on repeat listens, but I probably will never do that.
Alright. It sounded nice. But like the blues albums, it becomes a bit stale after a while
Alright folk to play in the background
It reminded me a bit of foster the people. But it went off the rails really fast. I don't know if I like it or dislike it. An interesting album nonetheless
He likes to fuck and drink I guess. I don't get the appeal
I expected to really dislike this based on my dislike of the long notes Christina is known for, the AaayaAaayAaaaAAAaaa. Seeing the runtime filled me with dread. But it was not too bad. Her vocals sound powerful in a good way and I started to appreciate the range more. It was a thematic album without becoming too stale. Overall more enjoyable than Britney for instance. Maybe it should be 4 stars but I feel that is a bit too high
