Reviews (page 3 of 14)
Totally love it, feels fresh and energetic. One of my favourite albums 4.8
First introduction to this band was in 2004 at a Festival in spain - four plucky scots that couldn't believe they were playing in front of such a large crowd. They were epic - touring this album - Jacqueline and Take Me Out will always remind me of that summer. This record is short, to the point, original and cool - it's very much a snapshot of the lightness and innocence of the era, and feels like it is of a simpler time. Probably because it was for me - right on the cusp of my 20s.
¡Fantástico!
I kind of hesitated between a 4/5 and a 5/5 grade for this debut, because in a sense, I feel like you had to be there in 2004 to understand the impact of this album at the time, and I'm always wary of misplaced nostalgia when it comes to this list. Then again, the first side of this record is pitch-perfect, as exemplified in the punch of absolute hit "Take Me Out", with its very original structure suggesting two songs copy-and-pasted together, yet displaying a whole coming off as groovy and instantly memorable. "The Dark Of The Matinee" and "Auf Achse" are also incredible, belying the unwarranted reputation of a band coming from the dreadful "landfill indie" era, which nonetheless had very distinctive aesthetics inspired from older luminaries going from Talking Heads to Blur, Suede, dance-punk and Squeeze (yet still unmistakably theirs as a whole). Here were enough stellar assets to make the noughts band easily stand out from the pack, to be honest. The second side is admittedly a little less impressive, even if the tongue-in-cheek homoeroticism of "Michael" and the catchiness of "Come On Home" are still providing nice thrills. But fuck it, I think I still need this artsy, iconic, subliminally brutalist album cover in my gallery anyway. 4.5/5 for the purposes of this list of essential albums, rounded up to 5. 9.5/10 for more general purposes (5 + 4.5) Number of albums left to review: around a hundred, as I've gone over the 1000 line and this generator is including albums from all editions of the book Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 439 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 260 Albums from the list I won't include in mine: 319
imagina começar o album de debut com "Jacqueline" !!!!!!! e ainda se tornar um dos mais importantes discos de indie rock!!!!!! ONLY FRANZ FERDINAND TE AMO PARA SEMPRE
I love Franz Ferdinand. They remind me of Bryan Ferry a little. It's the voice, I love the lead singer's voice.
Only heard the hits and the FFS collaboration album with sparks prior to this. Wow. Insanely catchy and pleasing tunes. Will go though their discography. Thanks 1001
Ya conocía este álbum, pero claramente lo tenía bastante olvidado. Fue muy divertido volver a escuchar Take Me Out y The Dark of the Matinée, pero también me sorprendieron otras joyas como Jacqueline y Auf Achse. Buen viaje al 2012
bis auf 1-2 alles mega songs
I forgot about this one. What a fantastic album. I'd put it in a similar bucket as The Strokes. Solid pop-rock where just about every song is great.
Brings back good memories
Ridiculously catchy from start to finish, especially the guitar work. I found his understated singing style to mesh well with the music. Also Tell Her Tonight reminded me of the Talking Heads Favorites: Take Me Out, This Fire, 40', Jacqueline Least Favorite: Cheating On You
Everything is fine.
4.6 - What a banger of an album, really took me back
Have always loved this album. Some great songs
Vrolijk, opzwepend, origineel
4/5 plus one bonus star because I listen to this one every six months or so and I owned it. May have been a burned cd but still owned it
I know Take Me Out is their mega-hit, but for my money The Dark of the Matinee is the best (but I do love Take Me Out). Then it also had Darts of Pleasure, just awesome. Michael and Come on Home were top songs I had never heard before. Cheating on you and The Fire weren't my favs, but I still enjoyed them. I knew I liked their individual songs, but this was the first time I listened to an entire album and I am happy I did because it did not disappoint. Their mix of rock, electronic and weird indie rock vibes are wonderful and make this an amazing album. They have their own unique sound so you know you are listening to Franz Ferdinand, but each song has unique moments that make it great.
Hell yea love this album
Has some reel big fish feels. Up tempo throughout.
An era from long ago
Yes
saw them live in Paris and it happened to be one of the best days of my life. Never thought I'd get to hear the Take Me Out iconic transition live.
not only is this up my alley, this is literally my alley, i live here
My parents had this and You Could Have It So Much Better on cd. So, there is a nostalgia factor, but I still think it holds up and every song is great. 4/5*
Sleazy alternative rock. Guitars and drums are bouncing. Hedonistic dive bar bangers.
Classic
I think this is the first album this site has recommended to me that I actually liked.
There's a distinctive sound here, but it still allows for a lot of variety within it. I've liked "Take Me Out" since the first time I heard it, and "The Dark of the Matinée" also stood out while I listened. The entire album is very strong, though.
Very much enjoyed. Great sound and variety. Fun band!
a clear 5/5 for me, a staple of 2000’s rock. And I’m still blasting it as I write
What a perfect album for GCSE results day! So British, so contemporary, so punkish, so artsy, SO GOOD. One of my favourite albums ever. 10/10.
Hood classic 🏴
SO GOOD
Estuvo re piola
Really good album! "Take me out" and "40'" clearly stands out. 5/5
I had to restrain myself from just giving this a 5 star on sight. I figured it's been a while since I listened to it as a whole instead of just my favorites, so to be fair I needed to listen to it critically. There was ONE point where I thought I was going to have to dip my rating to a 4 star. On the front half of the album I am about 50/50 on if I am meh about a song or absolutely love it. The back half is stacked though. I think I could only justify rating this a 4 realistically is if maybe is if You Could Have It So Much Better was on the list as well as that one is maybe better than this to me. That said, still an album I absolutely love. Probably the only artist/band on this list I have seen live (twice no less!) unless you count having seen Ringo and the All-stars and unless I am forgetting someone. Therefore, I feel I can and should give it a 5 because anything of theirs is high on my list.
quality album, bunch of bangers with tons of energy, love this
I didn't expect to be giving the teenage soundtrack a 5 but... fuck it. Tasty tasty songwriting. There is something very moreish about franz ferdinand. A song about cheating on someone has no business being so much fun. Props to the hi-hat, you were isntrumental (ha) to the vibe
Hearing this again for the first time in over 10 years makes me so glad
Brilliant
Heck yeah. Im gonna remember this and keep in the regular rotation. Good stuff here.
Glad to see this album made the list, as it is a real gem. It holds a special place for me as well as this album and 'N.E.R.D - In Search Of...' were the first digital albums I ever got. A friend had downloaded them from internet sometime around the mid 2000's and shared it. Must have listened to this a hundred times since then. Even though I am biased, I still think this is holds up to be one of the best albums out there. It's quite an uncommon thing to encounter, but I don't think there is a single bad song on this album. A few of my favorite ones are 'Jacqueline', 'Take me out', and 'Darts Of Pleasure', but the other songs are good as well, and listening through the whole album is a treat. They have an interesting sound and some unconventional melodies that I can only describe as slightly corny somehow, but at the same time extremely catchy and cool, which is a strange feeling. They manage to deliver some proper energy on most songs. For example, the buildup on the start of 'Jacqueline' until the first chorus just grabs you completely. I think the two guitars are just very good a playing complementary melodies that takes it a notch up. There are some sick basslines in a few tracks as well. Easy 5 for me, kickass album.
Man this took me back to when I i listened to this album as a teenager on an Ipod. Being 18 going to indie where they played "Franz Ferdinand", "Arctic Monkeys" and "The Strokes". Franz Ferdinand holds a special place in my heart so I might not be neutral but this album really holds up. "Take me out" single handedly changes rock in the 00s and is such a cool song. "Dark of the Matine" is also great. All the songs are quite different, avoiding the samey feel of many other albums. They still manage to keep it feeling like an album though. I really like the guitar driven rock which flirts with glam and sometimes even 60s rock. I think some other contemporary rock albums from the same era might be better but honestly with the hits and me being a big fan I'm going to give it a 5. All songs are good and I was happy coming back to this album. It has been quite a while.
Perfect indie-rock album. Did not realize earlier that it is a perfect indie album, full of energy. This is the best debut album from an indie band, and this is a hard statement because usually the first record is the (only) good one for indie band. Bravo!
Makes me happy WWI happened Jacqueline - 4.8/5 Tell Her Tonight - 5/5 Take Me Out - 5/5 The Dark Of The Matinée - 4.9/5 Auf Achse - 4.3/5 Cheating On You - 4.5/5 This Fire - 5/5 Darts Of Pleasure - 4.8/5 Michael - 4.7/5 Come On Home - 5/5 40' - 4.8/5 Total - 4.8/5
Dang. Every song hits. Not many albums can do that but this one definitely did.
Another pending that I resisted and that I'm loving! 5 stars already!
Take Me Out is brilliant! I like this album.
I feel this is when indie rock peaked!
Love me some Franz Ferdinand. These guys are expertly adept at switching up the rhythm. The grooves are consistently infectious and could be easily drawn out for much longer. Instead, they change things up often and at the perfect time to keep the energy rolling and never letting up. Absolutely killer debut album with bangers from start to finish.
What a smashing debut album. Basically, their first three albums are outstanding and fairly untouchable.
This album is a classic, everytime I listen to it I thoroughly enjoy it.
Banging album, start to finish, boosted by nostalgia for my early 20s. Favorite track is probably 40'.
This album is so much better than the hit! I loved the beats and tempos of the songs.
Good early 2000's rock. Solid album
I've never actually listened to this album, so we're learning some things about Franz today. Take Me Out might be one of the best songs ever. I could listen to it on repeat for hours. I was a little worried that it would overshadow every other song on the album, and while it is still the best song, the rest of the album really holds up well. I'm bobbing and jamming along to The Dark of the Matinee and Darts of Pleasure. Just an excellent album in total. They stay true to their unique sound throughout, but vary themselves enough that each song feels unique.
I LOVE Franz Ferdinand!
Great Album!
It's not high art, but Franz Ferdinand created the most catchy riffs of the 00s, and that's why these songs are still etched clearly in my memory.
Bastante PEC, se escuchaba antes de que me lo recomendase la web. Soy indie. Fransisco ferdinando -> PACOFER
Great
Takes me back to teenager years
Auf asche
This was so fun and creative. I had it in my head that I don't like this band, but turns out I was very wrong. I loved it!
I associate this so deeply with my Dad I thought this album was from the 80s for my whole childhood. Does it deserve a 5? No, but, it's getting one. 5/5. Dark of the Matinee is the only reason I have social skills.
It has to be on my top 5 list pf the 2000s albums. Short and powerful taking post-post punk to a higher level. In context the USA was taken over by hip-pop and tons of mediocre rappers were on the airwaves not leaving space for rock bands like this one. Rock and Pop Rock had a big bang left at the time to fight the ressistance with bands like Muse, Killers, Darkness, Velvert Revolver, Evanescence, Audioslave, White Stripes, Cold Play, Modest Mouse, Von Bondies, Sugarcult, Strokes, Amy Winehouse, Lot, Keane, New Found Glory, Linkin Park, Papa Roach, Zebrahead, FOB, Fastballs, MCR, Maroon 5, Razorlight, Bowling for Soup, Tegan and Sara, Interpol, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan and some other was still not enought to balance the wave of hundreds of rappers getting signed and releasing 💩 on a daily basis. It was a good fight and a great year for rock and pop rock. First song put me off a bit but once that starts the CD just gets better and better. Maybe it should have been the last song.
Yay, I love this album! This is my jam, I absolutely adore it!
¡Fantástico!
Pure nostalgia! Banger after banger. I still know all the words despite it probably being 20 years since I last listened. Simpsons: The Archduke yes, but not the band.
Barely minutes after finishing the much anticipated 'midnight feast' at a sleepover, a 10-year old Danny has just unearthed an absolute gem of a player on FIFA 05, signing the unknown Luis Fabiano on the cheap. Game after game he would bang in goal after goal, his rating going through the roof in the process. Meanwhile, in the Career Mode menu between games, an equally legendary song would grace the ears of young Danny - Franz Ferdinand's 'Tell Her Tonight'. This was a golden age for FIFA Career Mode. This was a golden age for the FIFA soundtrack. And with a crossed-armed Patrick Viera, poised Fernando Morientes, and skillful Andriy Shevchenko, this was a golden age for FIFA Covers. It wasn't long until young Danny ventured into the rest of Franz Ferdinand's catalogue, procuring himself a bootleg CD-R copy of their self-titled album. Banger after banger would be played continuously on repeat. So much so that 20 years later, an almost 30-year old Danny can still recall the lyrics to every tune. He even considers the band's most successful song, 'Take Me Out', to be in the so-called 'Big-Two' of all-time greatest songs, along with Shakira's 'Hips Don't Lie'.
I didn't know about their other songs except the one song and damn, shit slaps, 5/5
I always loved this album so much. Take me out is literally peak indie rock
Great!
An extra point just for being Scottish.
The only song I was really familar with was Take Me Out. This whole album was so groovy. It reminded me of The Strokes who I love. Honestly this one is in my standard rotation now. Easy 5 stars
mega
I've really only listened to take me out, that song was huge when it came out. I like this album, it reminds me of the strokes. Will probably listen again.
So I'm already pretty familiar with this album as it was in my listening rotation in high school, therefore this review may be a bit biased, as there is an added nostalgia factor. This album does everything that a 2000s British alt rock album should do correctly. This genre of music was apart of the foundation of my musical tastes, and Franz Ferdinand, in my opinion, captures the essence so well. To me, it's all about the catchy but not too complicated lead guitar riffs, ever-so-complementary bass, and the non-basic rhythm guitars. Apply all these and you got yourself a hell of a record. Check, check, check.
Boy did this one come out of nowhere. The first time I heard it, I was floored. I had never heard anything that was amazingly melodic, danceable but also sort of dangerous. It had all of the best parts of rock n roll, with all the danger of early punk rock. Sadly, many only know the one hit, but man does this one pack a wallop. They are still making excellent records which is incredible. Hell of a debut 9.3/10
Early 00's pop doing its job. It is a toe-tapping, chair-bouncing, and dance-club staple. Surely a favorite for DJs to mix into old and new tracks.
Peak indie rock. The energy, performance and lyrical blast is an era of its time that holds up to this day.
Franz Ferdinand is the best named-after-an-archduke band of all time, and their potent debut instantly assassinated any doubts that they would have a major role to play in rock and roll's early 2000s revival.
Having only known Take Me Out, I was pleasantly surprised that most of the album matched the same energy. Really playful instrumentation and good hooks. Only a couple songs felt like filler
I was only familiar with the single, Take Me Out, from this album before listening. I enjoyed it a lot, Could definitely hear traces of The Strokes and U2 along with the occasional Joy Division and maybe even a Devo style vocal in one spot. I love the way the guitar parts are different than each other as opposed to playing the same chords/rhythms. It’s like disco meets early 80s pre-synth new wave. Loved it!
FAAAAAAV - mis dieses
good
Nice
Talking about the album cover i have to say that i love the simplicity of it, just playing with the size of the typography and one yellow line, and that with a black background, love it. Now, talking musically OMG the sound of this is amazing, i love that it's not repetitive at all, every single song here is unique but still it doesn't lose their style, which i find fascinating.
Album is a one-trick pony, but it's a great trick.
Holy shit how did I never hear this before? All I knew was Take Me Out, and that isn't even in the best 50% of the album. This is a brilliant album that needs to be listened to ASAP.
Love them
Album was perfect for cooking a hello fresh meal. Not too long, not to short. Good balance of songs and tempos
Great album.
Not in my edition of the book! 2004. 5 stars. Quality, edgy Brit indie pop. Cracking tunes, sharp lyrics - what's not to like?
Great album
It was fun and entertaining
Oh very nice. Really digged this. Super easy listen. I've always meant to check out more Franz Ferdinand. Definitely will be doing so after this.
Franz came out of nowhere and crushed it with this debut album.
I like it, it reminds me of "Los Bunkers" chilean band.
This was the very first album I ever bought with my own pocket money when I was 10, and I still rank it as one of my all time favourites. Thanks, Franz Ferdinand, for 20 years of these bangers!
More realistically a 4.5
starts kinda weak but then it's banger after banger
5+ hätt nicht gedacht, dass so geil, aber habs bestimmt 2-3 jetzt gehört
I hear them regularly. Love the band dearly. Check out also other songs of them! for example: „Do You Want To“ or „No You Girls“! Personal top3 in no order: Take Me Out The Dark Of The Matinée Auf Achse
Never listened to it before. I am aware of their hits, but nothing else. . . What an album! Not one of my top ten, but certainly a great album! Syncopated post-pop with soaring themes and arena-worthy anthems. Every song is strong, and the hooks are many and well-crafted.
I was skeptical going into this album. One hit wonders are usually one hit for a reason. However I was pleasantly surprised. The album is full of catchy songs. High hat riding disco-esque drums, dual guitars, clever lyrics and some interesting tempo changes. I'm left wondering why these guys didn't have more hits.
What a fuckin baller album. Great memories.
The influence this album had on my taste cannot be understated... it feels kind of blasphemous that I discovered them through that iPod Touch commercial (no, you girls will never know!) but here we are, 14 years later. I still love Alex Kapranos' vocals, the clever lyrics, and the sharp riffs. I recall they once said that they want to make records that girls can dance to and THIS IS IT. Tracks that stood out to me upon this revisit: 1 - Jacqueline; 3 - Take Me Out; 4 - The Dark of the Matinee; 6 - Cheating on You; 7 - This Fire (this was such a fun song performed live); 8 - Darts of Pleasure; 9 - Michael Would I revisit this album? Yes, absolutely!
One of my favourite albums of the last 20 years, Greg really good start to finish. It’s a pity there aren’t more album of this quality and debth.
"The Dark of the Matinee"
Practically grew up with this album. Very nice.
Temazos, son muy buenos Me gusta más You could have it so much better pero 5 estrellas igualmente
Easily one of my favourite albums of the Noughties, and loved the Post Punk revival going on when this came out. All the tracks on this album are excellent, not one bad one and flows so well, standout track 'This Fire'. The three singles are outstanding, which brought this lot to my attention at the time which made me buy it when I heard 'Take Me Out') then it was followed 'the Dark of the Matinee' and 'Micheal'. Tight, melodic and with a slight humourousnes/ Edginess about it, like they were engoying themselves when they recorded it. It's the party album Joy Division didn't write. 5
My youth, University, early romance, nights out, driving lessons. This album really brings it all back !
I used to play this album a lot back in the day
Great album
White boy set the tone with that bass in every song while looking like a cabbage patch kid
really liked it
Fantastic Album
Find me in the matinee!
Great album, loved it. Had never listened to the whole album before.
Take me out! Soooo good. Alt, great bass and funk disco srums in rock format
Fun album. Was familiar with some of the tracks but it really works as a whole. Found some new bangers
I grew up with this album and enjoyed it back then. It’s groovy for a rock album
Great album. Maybe one or two skips depending on mood but honestly no bad songs
Fantastic freaking album! So unique for its time and influential to today's music! Great every time.
A blast to go back to an album I had listened to so much but haven't listened to in quite some time and I don't know why it's still cool and funky and deserves more attention than what it gets.
Love me some Franz Ferdinand. Listened through this a couple times back in the day but only had one of the songs downloaded, got the whole thing now.
Another great, classic album. Just as fun now as it was 19 years ago.
¡Fantástico!
Another album that I would probably never have listened to if I was not a member of this project. Every song on here is perfectly crafted. They remind me a little of Cheap Trick with the way they combine pop and rock in a perfect mix.
RRAAAAHH NO FUCKING WAY
YES LAD It's a 5/5. The singles off this album are fantastic. The only bad song on the album Is Cheating on You. Every other song is great.
Fun and high energy album
It feels like there's a party in my ears, and everyone's invited
To say that this was significantly better than expected is an understatement. Everybody knows Take Me Out, but I was not entering with high expectations at all. But this belongs squarely in the pantheon of 2000s alt rock. Really clean vocals, really fun arrangements. Very, very good. Favorite track: honestly, the entire album slaps, but Auf Achse really got me in the groove
So if you're lonely You know this album is here waiting for you One of the massive masterpieces which opened music for me 15 years ago.
Ahhh, the days of Fuse TV. Watching music videos for hours on end and Take Me Out always popping up in the rotation. Honestly, one of the more influential moments in my musical journey. While that song may have been ground down to a numb sensation, I still vividly remember it’s part in how I felt back them with the new age sound. I have never listened to this full album, and I’m surprised at just how different all of the songs sound. How each one is in its own space and makes its own sound. I love it. What a magical pop-punk-indie collection of songs.
I really loved this one. Good lyrics, good vibes, good rhythm I would def listen to this one again
Indie rock. Take me out. Vinilo.
So fucking dope. Endelig et barndomsalbum som kicker
Had only heard Take Me Out before. Didn’t think this album was for me but it turns out it fuckin slaps
Top Three Songs: 1) Auf Achse 2) Jacqueline 3) Take Me Out Bottom Three Songs: 1) Michael 2) Tell Her Tonight 3) Cheating on You
Crisp Artistic Rock
Class
There have been some albums on this list where I never want to hear them again. Some of them I’m not sure I ever wanted to listen to in the first place. There are some albums where I’m intrigued enough to think - I must go back to that later and have another listen . And then there are the albums that are so interwoven with my history and psyche that I know them well and just put them straight on repeat. This is one of those albums. We used to have it on every day in an office I worked in all those years ago. It was a firm favourite and we all sang along. I still love Franz Ferdinand and I’m still singing along. I’m sure they can be accused of being a bit too samey but that type of samey is fine by me.
I love this album. Strangely, I bought this when it came out, loved it, and then never followed up on the band. I think in some strange way I didn't want to ruin what was a perfect relationship by hearing things I didn't like as much. They nailed it out of the gate. I'm going to explore more of their stuff, including the collaboration with Sparks that has intrigued me for a while.
Love it!
Simple, catchy, damn good. Side note, my best friend in school, Michael, hated when I'd sing his titular song in his direction.
This was one of the first albums that I discovered on my own, and was not introduced by my parents. I heard the song "Take Me Out" on VH1 or something and it immediately was my favorite song, it was just so catchy. All these years later, it's still an amazing song, and probably my favorite from the album, but every song is so good in a different way. And they are all super catchy and fun! This is one of my favorite albums and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to have fun listening to music.
Any time a white guy with a soft voice opens a song with "[woman's name] was [below legal consenting age]" I get just a little bit nervous. Fuck, I thought this was going to be bog-standard early 00's indie rock, but I'm actually liking this one more than I thought I would. Lots of catchy riffs and melodies, solid performances all around, and consistently enjoyable from beginning to end, definitely gonna be giving it another full listen in the near future. I was a little hesitant to give this one a 5/5 because I feel like they aren't really trying anything all that ambitious, but they've conquered the hell out of their comfort zone and I can't deny that this was a surprise banger for me. Similar to the Chemical Brothers album, I wanted to hear more as soon as it was over. I'd be kicking myself the next day if I didn't give this one a 5.
Very fun and energetic! Liked it!
Great intro; Nice bass; This album has many attributes that I like in other bands, combining them in a awesome way
This takes me back I was at university when Take Me Out was released. Back then the moment the riff kicks in felt like the most thrilling thing I’d ever heard. The musical equivalent of that moment a rollercoaster crests the peak and you start hurtling downhill. The thing is, as thrilling as that moment is, I never really loved the rest of the album. I remembered it as a strong 3, maybe a 4 at a push. So imagine my surprise to find it’s actually matured like a fine wine and is a comfortable 5. Listening to it back for the first time in nearly 20 years I’m struck by how there are no bad tracks, the pace never lets up, but each song still sounds distinct. A very pleasant surprise considering how in my head I’d remembered it as very patchy
Classic and possibly Scottish
Dope album
I enjoyed this album, especially "The Dark of the Matineee", "Come on Home", and "Take Me Out". I feel like it's tricky getting this genre right without making the music sound annoying as many British bands of the era seemed to fail to do (and many made this 1001 list somehow). I also love how this was a super quick listen. 8/10.
Adore this album. Contender for the best Scottish album of all time.
yes!
Oh what an album. I'm totally biased as there's childhood nostalgia tied to this one, but I just love it so much, and although I knew a few of these songs there were some I'd not heard before too. Always a bop and never boring - it's diverse but never too all over the place. God I love this album.
Easily my favorite offering from that generation of aughts alt-rock, makes me kind of sad that "Mr. Brightside" went the distance to be enshrined as a classic of the time but nobody really cares about "Take Me Out" anymore
This was a staple on my first ipod.
Though not my favourite Franz Ferdinand album, I've always really enjoyed it. 'Take Me Out' was playing on loop for a while! Fav tracks: Take Me Out, The Dark Of The Matinée, This Fire, Michael, 40'
A landmark album of the garage revival movement. Taking inspiration from the likes of the Strokes and Interpol, Franz Ferdinand takes the music into an entirely new direction, more danceable and disco-like that would influence not just other dance punk artists like LCD Soundsystem, but indie rock as a whole to this day. You could hear the post-punk influence all over, such as the strategic use of repetition and atmospheric synths. Some like "Cheating On You" have an almost 60s twist on it. Their songs are rich and complex, which is really brought out by the crisp production. Kapranos is a star vocalist here - with a distorted vocal filter common among garage revival bands like the Strokes - versatile in singing both fun energetic songs to dance to and introspective songs to be taken away by. It's an incredibly accessible album, with something to like from every track. Good length. Good track ordering, with appropriate opening and closing tracks.
I love Take me out, lets see if anything else is as catchy. Oh good! Yes it is! Maybe this tambre will also be insufficient to hold me later, but right now it's arresting. The musical interest is more than present, this is a banger. I'm tempted to dock it a star for not being as transcendent as High Violet, but if I keep rating the same, this is an easy five stars.
Pure fire.
Great, catchy, sixties spy vibe, German for some reason
This is exactly what I grew up with.
What can I say, I'm a fan of the post-punk revival genre. I grew up listening to Franz Ferdinand, so for this album I have a soft spot.
Hell yeah
Recently my partner got this album, so it's fresh in my mind. Unlike my partner, however, who didn't like it quite finish to push it into the five star category, I think it clears the bar. Each song has this feeling of what made early 2000s rock sound really good, before it became to homogenized and relatively safe by the mid-2010s, and I'll say while the lyrical content isn't usually too crazy, songs like Michael feel very ahead of their time in discussing a topic like it does. Then there is of course the crown jewel, Take Me Out. Everyone knows this song and for good reason, the slowdown with the tempo absolutely makes it a bop-and-a-half, and that technical quality is through the whole album. This album and Is This It by the Strokes really felt like they formed the alternative rock genre into something amazing, and while it may have crumbled a bit, I still can't deny this album's quality and importance. It helps that it holds up. Two 5 star albums in a row, let's keep it up generator!
Grym platta som jag aldrig har hört förut. Bara hört plattan efter. Det finns bara ett betyg på denna och det är toppbetyg.

Really liked this
Very nice! I like the sound of Franz Ferdinand!
I already liked Take Me Out, but I wasn't sure if I'd like everything else when I got this album. The first few songs had me hesitant, but I started really enjoying this album by the time I got to the end. My favourite songs were probably Take Me Out, The Dark of the Matinee, and Darts of Pleasure, but it was surprisingly hard to choose.
I smiled the instant I saw this Franz Ferdinand album to review. This is the first album that I can say I have memorized from start to finish. I was studying abroad in England the summer that "Take Me Out" took over the airwaves. Being in the UK, particularly on my weekend getaway to Scotland, this song was ubiquitous. You heard it on the radio, on the bus, in the mall, everywhere. And for good reason too: "Take Me Out" is one of the most quintessential alt-rock anthems of this era of music. So, everyone knows their hit single, but probably view Franz Ferdinand as a one hit wonder (at least in the U.S. where the other singles never really hit mainstream popularity...though a single off their second album did decently well here), and that's a shame because this album is killer. To me, there are some criteria that make for a perfect album, and this hits most of them: 1) not a single "bad" song...sure there are some you maybe don't love, but they're all listenable enough. 2) an opening track that pulls you into the album and sets the tone 3) not too repetitive...the sound is unique but not every song sounds the same. Franze Ferdinand's self titled release nails all of these and more. It's iconic early 2000s alt-rock with danceable rhythms at it's best. "Jacqueline" kicks off the album with a mellow vocal intro and then just rips into drums and bass and guitar riffs. "Take Me Out" is still the stand-out song, but they've all got their moments. Particularly, for me, "This Fire" "Michael" and "40'" are among the best, which is saying a lot because so many albums start strong and fizzle out. This album never lets up and finishes just as strong as it starts. Is my nostalgia clouding my review of this album? Surely. It's not a "masterpiece" by any means, it's just really really great. Is it a "must listen"? No, probably not. It's not like it's an original sound and spawned a whole era of music inspired by it. In fact, it probably doesn't deserve to be one of 1000 albums you MUST hear before you die (which is likely why it didn't make the most recent round of cuts). But, if you are a fan of alternative rock, especially this early 2000s era with The Strokes, The Killers, White Stripes, etc., I think you will truly love this album. 4.5 for me due to the aforementioned reservations, but I'll bump it to 5 since I think it's pretty flawless.
An old favourite!
Fun and catchy
Fantastic album - pretty much everything could have been a single...
Possibly due to it came out at a sweet spot in my life, but I fucking love this. Great tunes engages me all of the way.
Amazing album. It was already on my list of albums I should listen to. The diversity in the album is great and it’s filled with great songs. Exactly what I like! Favourite songs: - Take me out - The dark of the matinée - Michael
Excellent. I've always like the Ferdinand, but never gave it any play time. Its raucous and fun.
One of my favs
When this came out I thought it was so good. And I was right
This might be one of, if not the, best album I've ever heard. Tight, subtle, powerful, but controlled. Incredible musicianship. Vocals are stunning.
Fun, inventive, Ramones-esque
Fun album.
Classic Scottish indie, really reminds me of living in Glasgow at the time this was out. Every song is so catchy and bright that it can be hard to pick as favourite, but 40' and the imperious Take Me Out are definitely up there. Loved it, and pleasantly surprised to see it on the list!
Gran disco de pies a cabeza. No sé por qué la banda nunca se convirtió en mi favorita pero al menos este disco es muy, muy bueno. The Dark Of The Matinee es mi favorita, seguida de This Fire y Take Me Out. 4.5 que subo a 5.
Excellent album. So many good tracks.
Ahhh, takes me back to high school when I started listening to indie
Iconic indie album named after possibly the most important person in modern history. If archduke Franz Ferdinand was never assassinated we would be living in a completely different world.
TAKE ME OUT
Zeer dansbare rockmuziek vol met meezingers. Moeilijk om bij stil te zitten
Love this album, grew up with it!
After I wrote my last exam in University and was officially finished school, I was driving to my hometown and Take Me Out came on the radio, a song I already loved, and I just started jamming out hard in my car. Apparently I was dancing enough for people to notice and some folks in a truck passing by started dancing too. That's my story about this album. Anyways, love Franz Ferdinand, there's something about their guitar riffs that I just love. They have some great hooks and this album is full of bangers. Take Me Out, Tell Her Tonite, Auf Achse, This Fire,
Elskaði Take me out þegar ég heyrði það fyrst og fílaði lögin sem komu í kjölfarið. Svo lá þetta bara í dvala, en viti menn, 18 árum seinna þá finnst mér þetta enn stórskemmtilegt og töff.
madeleine de prousting
Maybe the best of this era of new-new-wave guitar pop
Every song on this albums feels different.
I had my fingers crossed that I would have something that I knew today and I love this album so much so that’s good… Jacquline starts the album off with a the only acoustic bit in the album; then the Franz Ferdinand sound pops in this song is so infectious you would probably be singing along by the third listen. Great opener! I don’t hate tell her tonight but it’s always been my least favourite on the album and the only one I would call filler. Then is take me out the big single that everyone will know as you should know it starts with a much faster tempo for the first minute then forms into the stomper it is. It’s great but I’ve always preferred the intro. Now for the dark of the matinee, this is the album’s “ best” song ( not my favourite though) everything from the exploding guitars in the intro/instrumental to the long but memorable chorus and my favourite bit the verses especially the Terry Wogan one! Auf achse ( I honestly don’t know how to pronounce this or what it means in relation to the song) is for the most part a repetitive trance like looming entity of an epic synth-pop track, then is the Franz Ferdinand-y all guns blazing chorus and yeah that bridge is UNDERRATED . I loved this song from day one even if it’s not a fan favourite. Starting off side two is cheating on you, like tell her tonight this is still good but not as great ( still better than tell her tonight though) it’s a crunchy little guitar track and the albums heaviest song still an honest 4/5 track. When I was first getting into the album I would just flick through tracks, barely listen to them and for these next three saw a sample of the amazing music videos, this fire in terms of music videos has the best ( they’re all essentially commies). The song itself is good and I’ve seen it written off as filler which I don’t think it deserves It’s not my favourite but still has it’s moments. ( also the single version of this is shit). Then is darts of pleasure, probably the worst looking music video, is the debut single from this group, the song is probably one of the most distinctive the song is led much more by the pulsating drums the chorus is the best bit but the coda is so memorable. Now Michael is my favourite song on the album, it’s a fun little homosexual flick of a song with great guitars, one of the most oddly catchy choruses on the whole album and that little backwards message. I don’t know why I like it so much it’s just fun! Come on home is a deep cut that I loved so much at the start fine a lot of that love has passed no. But I still love it a moody little track with good lyrics, great guitar work and that little synth break is awesome. The album closes with 40’ a really fun send off track, it’s not as lyrically dense than the others ( they feel more used as a weapon to increase the greatness of the instrumentals) and anyone who doesn’t like the instrumental for this song is just a bit odd to be honest! Thank you for reading my little love letter for the band that essentially started the rudely called “ landfill indie”. I will ask this for everyone just try the other “ landfill indie” albums one day, form a proper opinion and don’t listen to the critics until you make your own judgment!
Like.
Great mix of Buddy Holly & The Crickets, The Dave Clark Five, the disco Era Brothers Gibb, B-52's and Midnight Oil. This is a band I know I could be a member of immediately. I'd be like that dude from The Mighty Mighty Bosstones who didn't play an instrument or sing, and was only there to dance.
This album continues to be infinitely replayable.
This was a new one for me. It was fun and I would have been a fan sooner had I known.
Catchy and timeless. A great listen.
It is weird to have a “takes me back” experience from and album that still feels new to me. What happened to the last 18 years?! Anyway… this takes me back. When I first heard this in 2004 it sounded really different, really new, really interesting, and really great! This album is adventurous and daring while being really great to listen to and a hell of a lot of fun to dance to. It’s good to dance like a beautiful dance-whore again! “Take Me Out” is still as exciting as ever. This song still gives me goosebumps. The tempo change is incredible - that tempo slowdown is one of the great moments in modern music. Really amazing song crafting. But there are so many great moments in the rest of the album. Franz Ferdinand has a ton of tricks up their sleeve and each time I listen the draw me in more. The album is consistently great. It’s filled with clever rhymes, observations and lyrics. The music is varied, clever and interesting while still managing to be catchy. Another case where I started listing my favorite songs and it was the track listing. The whole thing overflows incredible. I’m so glad to have this back on centerstage of my stereo. Definitely one of my favorite albums of its decade and one of my favorite albums ever!
Esencja garażowego rocka - album wychodzący w czasach popularyzacji indie rocka spokojnie przebił się do kanonu, a inni artyści czerpią z niego inspirację. The Dark Of The Matinee zaskakująco wpadło mi w ucho.
So Franz Ferdinand saved music. You see, in the early 2000s music just... Kinda stopped. Britpop had given way to awful shite like Coldplay. House music had grown tired, UK Garage had shot its bolt, and the industrial/alternative scene had collapsed into Nickelback, with Evanescence lurking in the wings. The world had "more important" things to worry about. The history that we believed had ended in 1989 became quite historic and very, very present, and music was generally, and genuinely, awful. Franz Ferdinand changed that. Take Me Out is genuinely a masterpiece. The changing tempo. The catchy hook. The evocative lyrics, dripping with self awareness and beauty of language. Most of all, it is fun. Almost the entire album of it is fun, managing to convey its messages in a way that's actually enjoyable, danceable and not filled with the self-indulgent wankery of their contemporaries. I'd like to say that Franz Ferdinand opened the door to the Scisssor Sisters - the other band of the mid-2000s to let "fun" play a part in music again, but I think that Scissor Sisters had found another way in and were able to steal the silverware on their own. The two of them though, genuinely represents a clear signal that music wasn't dead, just very badly burnt. Good on 'em.
Indie rock. Take me out.
¡Fantástico!
Fantastic indie rock album
I was worried when I got this album generated for me. I knew the song 'Take Me Out', and it's fantastic, but I was worried that, like with most albums that have a super popular hit, the rest of the songs were going to not stand out in comparison. Nothing ever reaches the high of 'Take Me Out', but there are still a number of fantastic songs that make this album a complete experience, and not something you listen to just to hear the one hit.
One of my all time favorite albums
Excelente disco. Lleno de rock fresco
definitely one of my favourite bands of all time. Really enjoyed Darts of Pleasure more than I ever have before. Huge fan.
Big fan
Un disco super redondo (comentario obvio donde los haya). Me gusta la portada simple la música desde el principio con "Jacqueline" su línea de bajo y sus guitarras. Desde ahí todo hacia arriba. "The dark of the matinée", "This fire" y la gran "Take me out". La verdad es que hacía tiempo que no lo oía todo seguido y es un disco de 5 estrellas *****.
прям в стиле the strokes, а это тоже очень хорошая группа
Cool pop-rock/post-punk album. Traditional mixing and music instruments.
This is lovely, just lovely! Happy to listen to it again.
This is grear. Allmost every single song is a banger.
Eräs levyistä jotka iski todella lujaa ilmestyessään 2000-luvun alussa. Kenties kuuntelin tämän vähän puhki silloin joskus, kun pitkään aikaan en jaksanut yhtään kiinnostua koko bändistä. Pari vuotta sitten nähty erinomainen keikka Kaisaniemessä palautti bändin taas ajankohtaiseksi. Hieno levyhän tämä on, ja hittibiisejä riittää. Take Me Out on vähän liian puhkikuunneltu, mutta esimerkiksi Darts of Pleasure on edelleenkin aivan priimaa. 4,5 voisi olla sopiva arvosana. Pyöristyköön ylöspäin.
Earned their place at modern pop's top table.
Awesome album! Pleasantly surprised to find that "Take Me Out" is not my favorite track.
July 26, 2021 Love this! Energetic and there are some good cuts on here other than "Take Me Out".
Love this album
Chill. Good. "A bop."
Such a banger of a debut album. Punchy, well crafted pop songs
4-star songs across the board but nothing to transcend to 5 stars.
I had only heard Take Me Out before, which is a great song. But this album has a lot of other good stuff too. Impressive.
loved the whole album, big Franz Ferdinand listener, though I don't go out of my way to listen to full albums typically, so I'd never heard most of these songs but it was totally worth doing it now best songs imo (that i haven't heard B4) are Tell her tonight, Jacqueline and Michael though the others are good too
Very good, the sound is very unique in its kind of rock feel. Overall very good album, take me out is definitely the best song.
nawet buja prawdopodobnie do niego kiedyś wrócę
Listened to this for the first time two years ago, when one of my now-best friends professed his love for this band, and this album especially. The man has good music taste, what can I say. “Take Me Out” is handily one of the best songs of the 21st century, and the rest of the first side is up there too. “Jacqueline” is a crazy fucking opener, really gives you the right impression of what the album’s going to sound like. It’s aggressive yet catchy, punk-adjacent but nowhere near abrasive. “The Dark Of The Matinée” is the other heavy hitter on the album in my opinion, attractive and charismatic. “This Fire” is the most insane moment in the album, I mean obviously it would be with the “fire” metaphor. Generally, the only real objection I have is “Cheating On You,” which is a pretty unremarkable song to be so far into the album, and “Michael” is a kinda weird song to hear, just the term “beautiful dance-whore.” Overall it’s a wonderful album though. 9.0/10
350/1089 I think the hit is the clear stand out but the album’s still pretty solid and fun. it lost some steam towards the end but i enjoyed it still faves: Take me out, Jacqueline, Darts of pleasure, Auf achse, The dark of the matinee 73/100
Never heard of this guy. By track 4, I was hooked.
What a solid debut. Well written, thoughtful songs with lots of hooks. It was very enjoyable. Liked Songs Added: Jacqueline Take Me Out The Dark Of The Matinèe Come On Home
i would rate it 9.1 out of 10 because this band had greater success with their most popular song Take Me Out and their opening song Jacqueline, which i would say this would be a great album for anyone who needs that 2000s rock.
Very fun record. Was surprised to see that I recognized most songs on the album. Seems like a direct descendent of Gang of Four in some ways. Reminds me of going out dancing in Miami.
Really like this, very unique sound but never repetitive, vocals always make me think of The Divine Comedy for some reason. Really holds up as one of the early noughties guitar bands' finest hours.
They never really matched this debut but it is still a blast, like a more pop-conscious Gang of Four. Full of hooks over a solid funk-rock base and Jacqueline is a terrific opener
Not really my bag, but I really dug the energy of this album. I did recognize “Take Me Out” and sung along with it since I remember it from playing Rock Band. 3.5 / 5
Initially was leaning towards a 3 star, but it picked up in the back half. I knew "Take Me Out" which I like, but is definitely overplayed. The only other song I for sure knew going in was "This Fire", which is fine but not great. "40'" "Cheating On You" and "Michael" were the standouts for me here
Their execution of glam and post punk aesthetic is fun and effective, though a bit silly. I like the seemingly intentional messiness in the production.
So far, most of the albums I’ve listened to on this journey have been either experimental, a big art piece, or historically significant. This album is a well-deserved break from all of that. Franz Ferdinand’s self titled album is fun, relaxed, and catchy as hell. Every song on here will get you moving - or at the very least, your head bopping. The songs on here are primarily carried by the bass providing a driving, chunky rhythm on almost every track, and an emphasis on the upbeat, which I don’t actually hear very often in this sorta 2000s era pop-rock. The obvious standout here is Take Me Out, which really just is a great song and probably THE song for this album. If someone asks, “what genre is this album?”, you just turn that song on and they’ll go “ah, okay, got it.” My other faves from here were Jacqueline, Dark of the Matinée, This Fire, and Come On Home. They’re all fun, free, funky rockers that feel like they belong on a summer playlist. That being said, there are two main things that turn me off a little. The first thing is the singing. Now, Alex’s singing is.. good! It’s emotional, it’s suave, it’s everything it needs to be. My problem isn’t him, but moreso the theatricality of it all. The album incorporates quite a bit of that sing-shout thing that they did back then, which is fun in short bursts, but it’s on almost every track here. At times, I found myself wishing it was just the simple lead vocal without the drama of the backing vocals. It’s not bad! It’s just not really something I can keep listening to for too long without feeling, frankly, annoyed. The second thing is the fact that… well, every song sounds kinda the same! I don’t particularly mind it, but it just starts to feel a bit monotonous when listening to the full album. A softer ballad, a shorter song, maybe some little acoustic thing… i dunno, just a little bit of variety to add some spice would have been nice. But as-is, it’s a good record. Undeniably so. A bit tiresome, a bit annoying, and quite loud - but hey, thats all of us when we’re young, isn’t it?
Que de bons souvenirs du Mexique
I could get used to these guys. Will be relistening.
I saw Franz Ferdinand in 2009 at the same festival I saw Q-Tip. Those were the days.
Great. Kind of sounds like Arctic Monkeys but this came first so big respect. Great loud sound. They have that Panic at the disco sound but only the rougher side. Anyways, I liked this album.
11 songs Apart from Take Me Out, which everyone and their grandma already knows, I really enjoyed the rest of the album as well. Found quite a lot of Muse's sound in plenty of their songs, and for me that can only be a compliment.
Crazy to think he went and got shot by that guy in Sarajevo.
Great debut album with some excellent tracks. The album became the soundtrack of our summer in 2004 and hasn't faded over the years. Good stuff! 4
From a period when mainstream music in the UK was drifting into nondescript landfill, this punchy sound got my ear amongst the increasing bland radio noise otherwise on offer. It on my shelves, although I rarely reach for it these days. Heard before ✅️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ✅️ ★★★★☆(7/10) Total reviewed : 355 Already owned : 79 Purchased : 16 To buy : 4 Nope : 256
Good album. "Landfill Indy" naysayers I think are a bit too jaded as this kind of music exploded further in latter 2000s and early 2010s. The production is solid and there is just good quality all around here. I wish for a little bit more though with that being said as some songs were same-ey but not unwelcomed. 4.
Hacía muchísimo no lo escuchaba de corrido y completo, y la verdad que es un álbum muy entretenido. Lástima la grabación. Signo de época. Por momentos se vuelve molesto el sonido que tiene el álbum. 7/10
Love the album, but their sophomore album is my favorite
Didn't listen to this when it came out for reasons that escape me. So I was pleased to hear it now and discover that it is actually decent. Someone once said to me that virtually every song could be a single, they weren't far wrong.
Excellent. Not a bad track on the album. Very close to the magic 5 stars.
One of the best live acts ever.
C'est bien mais pas mon pref de cette époque de renouveau du rock au début 2000. Rendu là donne moi Strokes ou White Stripes, ou Interpol?
Despite having 6 albums at the time of writing this, Franz Ferdinand is one of the kings of the one-hit-wonder. So this is my first real dive into the band that's not just hearing "Take Me Out" for the 10927722th time on the radio. It's a pretty groovy album. Is it the greatest thing I've ever heard? Nah, but it's got some catchy tracks. I really like the chorus on "Tell Her Tonight." The guitar riffs on "40' " slap. Damn, even "Take Me Out" still makes me bob my head after all these years. It's a good album. Short and sweet. Slightly forgettable maybe at times, but this is one you could go back to. I added a few songs to my playlist. What i thought would be pretty mediocre is a kinda surprising 4/5 for me.
The sweet spot b/w White Stripes and Arctic Monkeys— a bit more dance groove than the earlier, a bit more punk energy than the latter. 4.5 stars
Take me out, Dark of the Matinee and Michael are all great songs! 3.75
I liked it. and I get how it was an important album for its time. Fun play with time signatures and polyphony, and interesting, smutty but not overly amazing lyrics. Some standouts are Take Me Out, This Fire, Darts of Pleasure and Michael.
I had just listened to this the week prior. God, it holds up quite well doesn't it! The mid 2000s was my era! I was 15-20 during these years. Franz Ferdinand was never at the top of my list because "Take Me Out" was such a huge radio hit. I was more into Arcade Fire, Wolf Parade, and Broken Social Scene. I have learned what a critical piece of that sound Franz Ferdinand contributed. Along with Bloc Party and Modest Mouse, you've got the makings of the perfect early aughts indie Playlist.
хорошее звучание не грустно, плотно есть хит однозначно буду переслушивать
I remember not being fussed about this album when it came out, I had seen FF live and they were good I bought the album but I don’t think I ever listened to it in full. On reappraisal I don’t know why it didn’t grab me at the time. The songs are punchy, funky and melodic and it’s a well balanced album. It may have been the Orange Juice comparisons the music press were making at the time but to me this is far better version of art school indie rock. 4.1
11/06/2026 Thoroughly enjoyed this, a lovely little blast from the past. Spotify listeners: 11.7 million
Nostalgia sounds good! Likes: Jaqueline, Take Me Out; The Dark Of The Matinee; Michael
8/10 take me out is peak
Hated them for some reason when they first came out I liked a lot of British indie bands at the time (Maccabees, bloc party) but they rubbed me up the wrong way. Felt like poseurs. But a few of their songs have popped up on playlists recently and I now understand the appeal. This is a really good record, and the singles stand up well after 20+ years. Rated highly. Favourite track: darts of pleasure
Very energetic, catchy, creative, danceable indie pop rock. It just works. Faves: Jacqueline, Take Me Out, The Dark Of The Matinée, Auf Achse, 40'
Your enjoyment of this album may be contingent on whether you liked Take Me Out in 2004 and still like it today. Luckily, I did and do. FF's jaunty, spiky hooks are hard to resist and I find Alex Kapranos' twinkly-eyed innuendos and debonair affectations to be charming and fun. The album tracks are better and more interesting than I remembered.
I only knew Take Me Out from this, and that's such a banger. The rest of the album is decent. Reminds me of other earlier bands, but overall this was a good listen.
Total banger tbh, gave me nostalgia for some reason… What’s really special to me is that the album do not bore me, it ended just as strong as it started!
Very nice, knew some of the songs, the rest of them were a very good surprise.
Good solid band. Intellegent lyrics and thumping beat.
Top tier
Daar word je vrolijk van
Leuk leuk leuk!!
Franz Ferdinand fits into a specific niche of poppy alt rock that I really enjoy. I'd probably put Tonight on here instead of the self-titled album but whattya gonna do
It was pretty solid for #1 of 1001! Take Me Out, This Fire, and Come Home were my personal favorites, all very catchy. There isn't a single bad song on the album, they're all really good. But too many of the songs blended together and I felt like they weren't very catchy. It's a solid B+
I’m revoking this bands one hit wonder status, this thing slapped
Fun 2000s rock, a little loud to my taste.
Have only ever listened to the song 'Take Me Out' before (which is still amazing btw). The album was solid, made me want to be an alt kid in London, skateboarding and shit.
Pretty solid album, not a single skip for me. Favorite track(s) Take Me Out Auf Achse Come On Home
I like FF and this is a good album. "Take Me Out" is a classic. They have a distinctive sound that shines throughout, yet they keep some originality in each track which steers away from monotony and repetitiveness.
This was a big album for me 20 years ago. Haven't listened to Franz Ferdinand in ages, but now that I do, it still works. Take Me Out is the obvious highlight, but the song material is quite strong overall. The same can't be said of the later Franz Ferdinand albums.
Amazing classic, most of the 11 tracks are hit. Hidden gems are Auf Asche and Come on Home.
They got a cool sound I dig it
Quirked up white boy music. Had heard the singles but not the full album, was very fun. Particularly liked the matinee song.
Prime example of maybe the last truly great era of Beritish indie rock. Although I personally prefer Tonight: Franz Ferdinand, this oone is great as well.
Throwback to Grade 8. Take Me Out still goes hard.
Lively spiky indie fun. Enjoyed alot first time around. Slightly repetitive and runs out of steam.
