Not a ZZ Top guy

ZZ Top! I’ve heard of these guys before, notably for their role in a phony knock-off band of the Zombies. Hard rock affair, I can already feel it. I’m pretty far flung from being a fan of this genre, but I’m fine with a little easy listening every now and then. I’m definitely a fan of that runtime after all of the long ass albums I’ve been receiving lately. Not quite the sound I was expecting, but that isn’t me complaining. Yet more blues rock, right after Eric Clapton’s 461 Ocean Boulevard no less. I like the funky sound, and it's pretty competent from start to end. A little impersonal and commerical, but once I got into the swing of this album I was having a good enough time. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t drag it’s feet in a lot of areas, however. “Jesus Just Left Chicago” has a very characteristic blues/hard rock sound. I’m not sure whether ZZ Top coined the sound, but it’s enjoyable all the same. “Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers” is a good follow up. I like the lead guitar performance, and the building pressure of the song makes for a good listen. The jumpy sound of “Precious and Grace” is a good time. Some very good guitarwork, and it’s difficult not to nod along contentedly to the song. The transformation during the second half of the song is also pretty good. Very smooth. "Have You Heard?" is a good closer. Pretty chill, and I like the mildly anthemic feel of the music. Oh, hey. I’ve heard La Grange before. The guitar riff is pretty iconic, and I like the quirky vocal style. The way the track builds during the middle is good, too. I’m a fan. Book time. I get the impression that this album is a solid pick, though I’m curious nonetheless. There isn’t much of note in here. Over to Wikipedia. The band’s breakthrough album. Had a humdrum reception at release but has been received more favourably in retrospect. There isn’t too much going for this album, but as iconic musicians I think this era of ZZ Top is worthy of being included. I cosign this album.

favs: - hot, blue and righteous

4/10 very generic early rock, can see kings of leon being influenced by ZZ Top but nothing to write home about

1.5 rounded up did this list really need multiple zz top albums highlights: waitin’ for the bus, la grange (mar 16 2026)

I don't like ZZ Top. However, La Grange is decent. I think I also liked Master of Sparks ok. ZZ Top start at like a 1.5/5 for me, and most songs I feel didn't move the needle. La Grange + Master of Sparks moved the needle up a bit. 2/5

RAM TRUCK MONTH was the only song i recognized, didn’t know it was by them. Besides that it was really boring 4.5/10

ᛋᛋtop

Standouts La Grange

Rock music

It's OK but I just can't get past the unappealing vocals.

It’s ok. Very nice production; solid bops. Vocals are an unremarkable, though. Would prefer to listen to their older boogie influencers or contemporaries like Allman Bros or Skynyrd.

“Ah haw haw haw haw” 30/100 Favorite: La Grange

It was okay. The performances were good enough. The guitar solos were cool. I feel like nothing stood out. Favourite Track(s): Hot, Blue, And Righteous, La Grange Least Favourite Track(s): Master of Sparks, Beer Dringers & Hell Raisers

It was ZZ Top. Its not my thing.

a good time

Classic rock

Meh, not my cup of tea

ZZ baby i know you youre better than this

Older, not really my style

Not my style of rock music - not much captivated me, didn’t hate it.

ZZ Top is so deeply connected to my ex husband for me that I genuinely cannot enjoy listening to them. I guess it's been enough time because I didn't HATE listening to this album, but I still wouldn't specifically seek it out.

Can’t quite understand why there’s so much on this list which is nothing more than generically American. Or why these attempts at sounding soulful seem so plastic. It’s not terrible, but it is meaningless.

1. buz - 2 2. chicago - 1.5 3. beer - 1.5 4. zparkz - 1 5. hot - 1.5 6. line - 1 7. grace - 1.5 8. grange - 3.5 9. zheik - 1.5 10. heard - 1.5 11. buz - 2 12. jezuz - 1.5 13. grange - 3.5

Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers was the first track where this album actually caught my attention. I thought the opening track was quite weak which is definitely not what you want from a record like this. Unfortunately I generally found this to be broadly one note and quite dull.

Great bar band. Well produced. Drummer is great.

Never really got ZZ Top, but thought I might like them because their long beards and vibe remind me of our friend Katie's dad...but alas...this album just didn't do it for me. I guess it was okay, but nothing to write home about.

For 1973, this was an exemplary Texas blues-rock album. Sort of Outlaw Country Rock, and ZZ Top was a new act (not all that new, two of them performed as The Zombies back in the 1960s, mere cogs in the exploitative music industry). This album is fine for what it is--blues based party rock. Don't think too much about it, have another beer, just have fun. Interesting and essential? Sure, if this can be the last blues-rock album on the list, but I doubt it will be.

Pretty generic

I’m not sure why I need to hear at least 2 ZZ Top records before I die. This is run of the mill dad rock.

I struggle to summon a huge about of energy for ZZ Top, either positive or negative. Its bluesy, southern rock which is a genre mismatch for me, though I do find it perfectly listenable.

feel like taking a bus trip through the US while i sketch my journal with some hippie clothes on, trippin on acid and my shaggy hair. 2.5/5

Started off promising, but slips into the usual.

It was okay. I was a little disappointed. The only song that stood out to me was “La Grange”. The rest of the album was just generic Southern rock with some Spanish words here and there.

Blues bar rock. Fine for what it is, just not for me.

This sound got old sooooo fast. Also, dude sounds like Meatwad

Straightforward exemplar of 'dad-rock'. Musty blues-rock that doesn't do either genre justice. It would be fine in the background of a bar, kind of boring to listen to closely. Standout: La Grange

'La Grange' is one of the first few songs I learnt on bass. I liked 'Have you heard?' too. Rest of the album just doesn't connect with me.

I liked this better than the other ZZ Top album on this list (Eliminator), but I listened to it twice through and none of it stuck with me. 2.5 stars?

I expected to like this more, but found it a bit generic. Again, I play this game with a single listen, so it's not fair to me to say that this is boring. Probably will listen to it more to check if it's a grower or just an overrated album. Btw, the sound is cool!

Dull, except for a brief jolt when La Grange kicks in that dissipates once you realize that the warmer reception you gave that song is just your synapses firing thanks to recognition from the Guitar Hero 3 songbook.

I liked a couple of the songs that I recognized, but the other ones were kind of boring

2 Stars (5/15)

This is what would be playing in the background if I ever got mugged in an alleyway outside a pool hall

Some good guitar. Will likely forget this album in a few weeks

Droning. ZZ Top is already a bit out of my personal realm but this is a fairly generic rock album that could be applied to a number of different bands without noticing.

Only decent songs are La Grange and Jesus just left Chicago

Cool and feisty blues rock. Had a hard time getting through it, but also didn't have the time to REALLY listen, so i ended up splitting it up into 3 listens while doing other stuff. Not super interesting. Good production.

Quite boppy but its not making the playlist. fav = Jesus just left chicago

There are some nice bits in this album, and there were times when I thought I might end up connecting more than I did, but it's just not that great. Definitely didn't grow on me as I'd hoped. OK.

La Grange has been used so many times in pop culture that it cannot be enumerated.

I’m pretty familiar with ZZ Top, but haven’t listened to any of their complete albums. I was pretty disappointed with this one. While it stays pretty true to their southern blues rock, none of the songs really got me excited like the genre usually does. Listen again: maybe Purchase for my collection: if I came across it cheap Favourite Song: still La Grange. Was hoping to find a new gem but nope.

Typical boomer rock with a few good songs here or there. Overall low mid

Average blues music at the best of times, boring boomer rock at the worst of times.

Texan bar room blues. I didn't find this a very exciting album - if I wanted to play white Texas blues I'd prefer Johnny Winter's The Progressive Blues Experience.

Over it

I feel like I’ve heard all these songs before, and have liked some of their standout singles in the past (although that could just be songs I’ve heard playing Guitar Hero games), but listening to this album in its entirety like this really shows up how generic these songs are. If this came on the jukebox while I was throwing back crappy beers and playing pool in a bar I’d be in my element, but this kind of sucks when listened to as an album. The influence some of these riffs had on Queens of the Stone Age is very apparent.

It was ok, not really for me. Favourite tracks: Waitin' for the Bus & La Grange Probably won't be revisiting. 2/5

I think I personally have to wait a little more for that Cadillac.

Not for me. All the songs sounded the same.

Disappointing - was not familiar with early ZZTop so was hoping for something young/ rocky with energy. But found it rather dirgy with tedious geetar solos and no real stand out tracks. Had spent the morning listening to Beggars Banquet and this album was very poor by comparison. Would give it 2.5 if I could.

Too bluesy and boogie woogie for me to really appreciate

ZZ Top is fine classic rock music. I don't think the band is anything special, especially compared to their contemporaries like Led Zeppelin. The singer's voice is mildly grating, and just not what I want to listen to. Best Songs: Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers, La Grange Worst Songs: Precious and Grace Worst Songs:

Just okay background music, nothing special.

One star for each hombre, except minus one star because this is largely a boring-ass, generic blues rock album.

Run of the mill rock album with the live version of Jesus Just Left Chicago being the standout track

It's what I imagine redneck americans listen to all day.

I wasnt really that impressed with this one. La Grange has long been a favorite ZZ Top song for me, and that song definitely slaps. But it feels like that's the highlight of the album- the rest of the songs have a pretty similar structure and all seem to meld together.

It was okay

Fine rock but not for me and nothing special.

not bad, not my sound though

Pretty much the defining sound of classic rock, with good energy and plenty of twang. Not really my style, but I respect and appreciate ZZ Top.

Han hermano guiterez erwarted, becho hani chli öpis zu rockigs. Gibe de mal dos hermanos

bin gester ufem sofa am rotte gsi und han nöd würklich zuegloset, nothing special i guess

Haven't really listened to ZZ Top before. This album is kinda eh. Love the guitar works and the beats, but the lead singer seems to just ramble on. Best song: Master of Sparks

Noooooooooo. OK, I have a gut reaction of dislike for ZZ Top (and what kind of name is ZZ Top, anyway? More like ZZ Bottom. Hmph), and this low-res MS Paint album cover isn't changing things for me. The wiki genres ("Southern rock, blues rock, boogie rock, Texas blues") are similarly unappealing. I wonder if the "muddy water" lyric in 'Jesus Just Left Chicago' is a reference to Muddy Waters, who is I suppose like a slightly more enjoyable version of ZZ Top. And 'Master of Sparks' could almost be an Audioslave song. Heck, maybe 'Hot, Blue and Righteous' is about Gonzo from the Muppets (introduced in 1970). And I guess "I'll be where the big wheels keep on turnin'" in 'Move Me on Down the Line' is a CCR reference? Plus "I'll be ridin' on the bus 'til I Cadillac" is also an objectively funny line. So there are things to enjoy for me here, but the overall sound just isn't my style. The live tracks at the end don't help matters!

One hit wonder album, completely uninteresting 5/10 Fav tracks - La Grange, Jesus Just Left Cicago (live)

Dirty and sweaty, rife with crackling solos, but all so genuinely outdated and flat, having besides the solos the presence of a bronchitic cough.

Classic band. I love the sound. Songs on this album are a bit samey- other than the rich groove on La Grange.

Nostalgia mainly.

OK rock.

I didn’t hate this album as much as I thought I would! Listenable but nothing special

I’m sure well loved by many, but I just didn’t get into it at all.

I definitely like the idea of ZZ Top more than I like the music of ZZ Top.

Boring, but some of the drum parts are slightly out of the ordinary so it kept me at least a little engaged.

I really struggled with whether or not this album was a 2 star or 3 star. It really wasn't all that interesting, but there were a few moments that were kind of cool. But my god Precious and Grace really brought this down to a two.

I feel like I’ve heard “La Grange” somewhere before…otherwise the album wasn’t awful but at some point it all started to sound the same. I really can’t differentiate between certain songs.

I don't hate it and La Grange is a banger, but.... this sounds like a Harley Davidson dealership soundtrack.

I can say that it's not as bad as I thought it would be, but that's pretty faint praise

Groovy

It’s definitely interesting. A difference between listening to music for the lyrics vs the music. It could grow on me but initial rating was a 4/10.

gefðu mer meir arokk pliiiz

++: La Grange +: Waitin' for the Bus, Jesus Just Left Chicago, Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers, Move Me on Down the Line, Precious and Grace, Shiek, Have You Heard? +-: Master of Sparks, Hot, Blue and Righteous 7,0/10

I don't know about this one. I feel there's a cultural barrier at play here. This is SUPER AMERICAN and not in the way country or bluegrass are, so it lacks the regional folky charm of those releases.

Nista posebno, cak pomalo dosadno

Not much that stands outside of Waitin’ for the Bus.

Is La Grange about a whorehouse? If so, pretty cool it’s been on the radio for 50 years. Overall not overly compelling music (though I did turn it up when la grange came on). Clearly can play the he’ll out of their guitars but I found myself thinking about other stuff 90% of the time. 2.3

zz is fun

Último tema legendario

Not my style of rock. 2/5

I can't stand their hits anymore. Terribly overplayed but their other music isn't bad

Ganz coole Riffs. 2,4

Nah. Generic and dull.

Boring af

im not good at rating things but this album sounds like a home depot commercial so im badically rating a home depot commercial fhhdjdjgsg shdjj

While it has some personal interest to me as I’ve spent time in several of the places the Hombres mention on this album, it’s still just another middling blues-rock album by white boomers.

Didn’t finish because I thought it was boring

I can see why people like this band. I enjoyed some of these tracks. But, ultimately, not my favorite stuff.

Production: 3/5 Lyricism: 1/5 Sound: 2/5 Enjoyment: 1.5/5 Overall: 1.8/5

Not for me. This sort of rock I just find a bit boring.

Pretty okay. Loved it, hated it. Not much to say. 2/5

some good bangers of course, i wish i placed the others at a 3

2/5 blues rock with La Grange

worse than expected

its ok its not bad

The guys who own that hair salon for men downtown sure make up a really good bar band. Anyway, yeah, let’s down another round of Coors for the table, and grab some more of those complementary peanuts while you’re up!

Texas blues isn't my favorite, but I do like the drummer, and La Grange is always a good time. Other than that, though, this is a hard pass from me.

This type of music has to really be something for me to take notice but unfortunately it just passed me by before I knew it.

I absolutely did not need to listen to two ZZ Top albums before dying.

Fine. Kinda meh

Fun rock band outta of the 90’s. Dixie/Rock, Rock n Roll, etc. Some real fun music, and a great look to boot.

Nichtssagender Southern Rock.

Only really like le grange and sheik

Best Song: La Grange. One of the few tracks on the album that felt like it had an original sense of personality. Worst Song: Hot, Blue, and Righteous. The absolute last thing this album needed was a bluesy ballad. Overall: Really only one or two interesting tracks, with a real large, boring gulf in the middle. Feel like the gimmick of the beards contributed at least half of this band's popularity.

Great guitar musicians but struggled to get through the entire album. Just not my thing.

Second zz top album generated for me this month. Both are nice. The band sounds great, and Gibbons is definitely a powerful guitarist-vocalis. But I can't say this kind of music sparks much in me at the time... Good, nice, but not much more.

Fine. Whatever. Not really my jam.

nothing really stood out for me here.

La grange is the only song I recognised. Sheik was alright. The rest was just a load of boring white man blues.

Not my taste but can respect

FAVO: La Grange

pensé que eran judíos o amish que hacían blues

not my vibe, a bit monotonous

I couldn’t finish this. Sounds like music my stepdad listens to.

It's zz top. , and there aren't really any surprises to what that meant to me already

Fine. I thought I’d like it more than I did.

not bad, grooved but didn't save many songs (2/10). very passive listening vibe. fav song on the album = hot, blue & righteous (so gooood). was disappointed by the most streamed song (La Grange) like 500 million streams for what? i give it a 4/10

Not really vibing with this. Cliche dad rock with uninteresting lyrics for the most part. I don't hate Master of Sparks; cool story (kinda) and somewhat fun. Hot, Blue and Righteous sucks IDK I just don't really like blues rock and I'm not feeling this album.

Probably won't go back to this. It was alright

didnt excite me that much. just an average rock album from the 70s.

Ugh, okay, so I knew "La Grange," but nothing else really stuck out. The album is inconsistent the whole way through. One song, it sounds like something that might breathe life into RHCP. And then he seemed to rip off "Proud Mary" by Ike and Tina Turner on another. Reviews cite ZZ Top as sounding "Black" for being rockers, which is all sorts of funky. Not a fan of this one so much.

Definitely only on here for la grange. Pretty nothing beyond that. 2 stars.

Why are all these songs the same? Why are these people filling stadia instead of playing to eight people in a pub on a Tuesday night in Bromsgrove? It's technically fine, I guess, and it doesn't offend me or make me want to switch it off, but it's boring, and it's the least interesting music you can imagine.

Not the worst thing in the world, but I was.... bored by it? Also, there were some really weird stylistic shifts between songs and the vocal performances that were offputting to me.

You kind of get a sense of what this entire album is gonna be with the first two songs. Some solid vibes, but not much beyond that

I like 'Jesus Just Left Chicago' Rest of it is ok

Not my thing but did not strongly dislike.

Openingriff (vanaf 0:17) doet me trouwens heel erg denken aan een ander bekend hard rock nummer, help me even. 'La Grange' is ook wel een stand-out track, maar dat het een blauwdruk is voor ongeveer elke blues rock band uit de Achterhoek ben ik ze iets minder dankbaar voor. 'Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers' is southern rock in zijn meest monsterlijke vorm, vreselijk. Hop, en nu op de American Chopper, op naar het volgende album. 6,5/10 Highlights: Master of Sparks Have You Heard?

it's catchy, and i can understand why ZZ Top is so popular, especially given the timeframe. The modern take on blues rock mixed with rockabilly definitely was a unique take. It just is relatively simple and not my favorite

first sit down listen to ZZ top ("She's got legs" is their only song that comes to mind and that is very 80's fun). I always thought of them as light entertainment, American guitar pop rock, so surprised this is leaning more into White Blues (is that a thing?) than I expected. Ok, but doesn't press any particular buttons, except when their propulsive beats get going. Which sounds bland to me.

Rough, lazy & hazy

Tres Hombres=Dos Estrellas. I have heard this album praised by lots of folks, but I don’t get it. Perfectly adequate blues from white guys with excessively long beards. Pass.

We seem to have had a lot of music like this. I found it boring and forgettable. I've actually already forgotten about it.

Tres Hombres by ZZ Top solidified the fact that I don’t really like ZZ Top. I appreciate the musicianship but I’m really not their demographic on so many levels.

This made me wanna join a bike gang (derogatory).

not really my thing

Sound is too much Rock and currently not my taste. In former times especially in the 80s I liked ZZ Top more

Not that exciting

Lagrange is the stand out on this album. The rest of the album wasn’t very exciting to me. Just sort of “meh” blues rock and I’m not really a fan of the blues. It’s just a bit too formulaic for me. The shredding guitars stand out for sure but would probably enjoy the live show more than the recorded music.

Tres Hombres' title hints at a potential Latin lilt, but there definitely ain't none. Instead, ZZ Top serve up straight down the middle blues and rock & roll, done well. Especially La Grange. La Grange is done especially well. But it's all a bit too straight down the middle, too bound to the road.

Good band and some cool guitar playing. The songs didn’t do really do anything for me. I’m kinda over the classic blues rock of the 60’s and 70’s. I’ve heard so much of it in my life that I don’t have any space to hear any more of it for the first time. I’d rather just listen to the Allman Brothers or something else that I like more. 2.5

This is maybe a 3 but it felt like a chore to get through. Really unoriginal and uninspired derivative blues rock.

I didn’t feel like there was anything interesting about this but I appreciated the length.

I bet this album did great with weekend warrior dads, the guy who crushes beers in his garage to work on a project but really just wants to be away from his wife and kids. pretty standard affair for ZZ Top, La Grange is probably the standout hit so your mileage may vary with this one.

This blows.

Oh no, not more blues influenced rock for middle aged dudes... I mean, this one was okay, but even the iconic track La Grange didn't feel like anything special here once it just started having rambling guitar, which seems to be what every track here devolves into. This felt more like strutting down the street than biking down the interstate, and I mean that as a positive, but it is certainly clear why this band as a whole is more iconic than most of the tracks they produced, let alone a whole album.

Glemte å følga med

not my thing

La Grange was good but everything else was ok.

Felt sort of generic

Two stars for zz top. But it was very boring.

White boi boogie - not great, not terrible

OK. Sound doesn't feel that unique to me but the time the band has been together is impressive.

La Grange is such a standout. Otherwise, just okay.

I liked the vibe but I just wasn’t feeling the whole thing

I was expecting to give this a 1, but they beat my expectations a little. While I listen to again: 0%

Not my favorite album, guitar tones and solos were fun until they all sounded the same. Skipped one on the album and the 3 live ones, band definitely sounded similar to their recordings which is pretty cool. Too repetitive for me to add any songs.

Normally, I can never go wrong with some good old 1970s rock, but this album just didn't do much for me. The guitarist went absolutely wild in some of his verses, which was cool to see, but the vocals weren't my favorite.

I never really got into them and this album still didn't do the trick. Talented but too hectic and just never really felt their groove. I'll stick with Zeppelin and AC/DC for rock legends of the 70's.

Boring. One good song

I understand the cultural significance, but their songs all kind of sound the same to me. Again, not really my taste

Not my type of music

I laid back so far, the back of my head rested on my ass.

Sounds like it would get played in a rubbish theme biker bar

I actually didn’t mind this one. Not too bad.

Not a huge ZZ Top guy, a lot of the songs sound similar to me.

Fav: La Grange LF: the rest I guess, it all felt pretty similar Mid 4

Very bluesy. Listenable.

It's a classic album but just weak for the most part. Couple of good songs

I like bluesy rock tunes so I expected to enjoy this a bit more. It just fell a bit flat for me, the guitars were impressive enough, there just didn’t seem to be any passion, on the vocals especially. I suppose they’re going for a bit of a slacker delivery which can definitely work but this album was straight up dull. The ballad like tracks sucked what little energy there was. Never so much cared for La Grange either, the riff is awesome but the song itself is meh. Huh I guess I just don’t like ZZ Top. 2.5 stars

I almost always skip La Grange and Sharp Dressed Man when it comes up on some random playlist, and that’s kind of 98% of ZZ Top songs I can name? This was fine 🤷🏻‍♂️ They’re extremely technically proficient and the production value is unreal. I respect it for sure, but this kind of blues is not something I seek out, and this doesn’t change that.

Wow, a lot of these riffs are super repetitive! Also they are responsible for inspiring a lot of shitty acts, though I am grateful for their influence on Josh Homme who does this type of rock best, in my opinion.

Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: not really my thing Favourite song: Track 10 - La Garange

Another of these dime a dozen, clichéd rock bands who think they are the shit. I'm sure this is what i needed to hear before I die.

Noh rokkia...

I liked the music on this album better than their 80's stuff. Too guitar heavy. A lot of elements that I like in other music-- bluesy rock, gritty vocals--doesn't seem to come together in a way that I like it. La Grange, the one song I knew before listening to this entire album, has a better balance of beat and guitar.

Sheik - best track. Great rhythm section. however not my thing, too Bible-belt rock.

Well I've definitely heard La Grange. First one I recognize. Meh it was okay. Only 2 stars.

They might be the best bar band in the world, but they still sound kinda shitty to me.

not much to say here

Zed Zed Top have their charms (aesthetically, and occasionally musically), but I’ve heard two of their albums now and they haven’t won me over. Eliminator has more to recommend it, but this one is just pretty average blues rock.

Too mumbly

Better than K expected. I don't like La Grange, but the other songs were less annoying.

Chugging rock

I think I knew La Grange before (maybe from ads?), that one and Sheik were pretty good. Apart from that, it kinda blended over into each other. Listened to the Expanded Remaster. + La Grange + Sheik (from The Legend of Zelda)

Not very interesting. If you like Southern Rock you might like this one.

Sounds all the same.

No, this isn't it. Most songs were too calm for my tastes, and despite me not liking La Grange much in Guitar Hero, it sounded even worse this time around. They know how to play the guitar, but I'd like to see them play the guitar somewhere else. 2/5.

Pretty forgettable for the most part. Some songs the vocals are pretty bad. La Grange is the only song that left a lasting effect

Incredibly boring album, some decent guitar but thats about it.

Pretty boring. Rock should have jagged edges and be able to hear the musicians punching above their weight. Everything is so smooth and in the pocket it hits like elevator music.

2:17 of La Grange plus a bunch of ho-hum boring shit.

Rating: 2.5/5 Good guitar work but the vocalist sounds like he has a potato stuck in his throat and tries to cough it up. There are few tracks that stand out on their own. Rest of the album is pretty much forgettable. Listen to this if you need some truckin' music to ride to. Best song: La Grange (Road trip classic, love the rhythm) Worst song: Hot, Blue and Righteous (Slow ballad, hard to stomach after 1 minute)

One of the least interesting albums of all time by one of the least interesting bands of all time. Google "10 Hours of Intense Snoring" to get my extended thoughts.

lowkey snoozer

Another album by ZZ Top and another reason why I'm not a fan of this band. Extremely monotonous and irritating drum line makes it almost unbearable to listen for longer than couple minutes. Vocal is rather unassuming and generic, I have heard voice like that in every other rock bands. The big highlight of the band are the guitars. Riffs are okay, but every time the band comes up with an unusual melody, or with another solo, you can tell its something special and unique. I didn't really like "La Grange", the biggest hit from this album. My favourite song was "Jesus Just Left Chicago". Drummer actually tried to do something different on this song and that was enough to change the whole perception of this record. Unfortunately, too little, too late. I'm not a fan and probably I won't ever be one.

Basic and boring.

Kräkfull på efterfest I Vetlanda? Nog med det.

Good music but a bit boring and not memorable

Pfffft. I don't know man.

The beards and shades had me off, I thought ZZ Top would be way more fun than this.

ZZ Stop

Jesus left Chicago is the only good ZZ Top song

Not terrible but I just wasn’t enjoying it that much. Not my genre I guess.

This album was okay. Not my favorite

Pretty boring.

Dos estrellas ⭐️ ⭐️ 👍🏾

Passable southern boogie rock. Not my cup of tea. 2.5 🌟

A mix of decent country rock and unbearable drawling country - there are glimpses of brilliance here, but the overall product comes across as a loosely-bundled collection of guitar noodling

Tråkig

Not my go-to sound but jazzy and would be fun to dance to.

Honestly, just very blah, hyper-masculine music. Not super creative. La Grange is a great song though.

meh, aaight and live...

Literally only know of ZZ Top from the song 'La Grange' and that Billy Gibbins is Angela's dad in the TV Show Bones. Thankfully 'La Grange' was on this record. Overall it was a little meh. Gibbins' guitar shredding is probably the only thing that saved the entire album. Best: La Grange Worst: Hot, Blue and Righteous

hi- la grange It's fine...Had this album when I was a kid, wasn't a favorite then, still isn't.

Ok, new(not that new tho I’ve been thinking about it for a while) this list includes a lot of records only so very important songs get to be featured even if the rest of the record is irrelevant. Ok La Grange is a great song but not worth the full album

More than Sabbath, less than Lynryrd Skynyrd. Brawny, dumb and lots of fun.

Pretty okay but I’m just not really into blues rock. Better than I thought ZZ Top sounded. Best song: La Grange solely cause now I know what it’s called and that it’s by ZZ Top

La Grange is a classic. Rest is fine. 5/10

classic rock tropes

Hmmm well I liked the fist couple of songs. Like the stile but the songs themselves got a bit boring as the album went on.

Boring

Only having listened to La Grange off this album before getting into it, the rest of it was disappointingly boring.

ZZ Top, before the beards and sunglasses, were strong players in the blues rock genre. It's very blues. Blues to a T. So much so that ZZ Top rarely does anything subversive or innovative to do much interesting with their sound. The obvious exception to this is La Grange, a more southern-geared rock piece that showcases ZZ Tops strengths: tighter playing styles and bringing the drums to the forefront. Instead of playing metronome for the 12-bear blues, La Grange has drummer Rube Beard as an active participant in the band for once. Ultimately, La Grange serves to show that the band has potential to be great, but decidedly muddles around in mediocrity throughout the album's runtime.

Very much not my jam and kind of boring.

RIP in peace Dusty Hill.

Not as country of an album, very bluesy combined with that country feel. I can tell it's a great album, but this is still not really for me.

Liked this album, although I found that the songs sound rly similar IMO, still liked it tho.

I like Le Grange and that is about. I get bluesy jam bands are a lot of people's thing but just not mine

This album is good. I am not a head-butting rock lover but I can recognise good melodic rhythms, tight guitar playing and generally well put together distinctive and individual songs.

Not my cup of tea

boooring

Some beard slappin' ass tunes.

I sleep

I have to say, that this is not an album I will listen to again, because it wasn't to my taste and that is why I've decided to give it two stars

Not bad. Best track La Grange & Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers.

Didn’t even finish. Found myself bored.

I can see what this album is trying to do, and I even liked it for a few songs, but it gets old very quickly.

Ja. Schön, das mal gehört zu haben.

Just simply not for me

It's a live album and I normally don't rate those high. You have to be there to get the full effect. He incorporates Capital Theater into his song and the crowd goes wild. That means nothing to me. I don't even know where Capital Theater is. It isn't anything bad until they start adding back in the crowd and it's just annoying. Few songs are better in the live version. I'd rather just listen to these songs on their studio albums.

Pretty boring

Meh. Not my type of music.

too old head for me

I guess they're talented, but I don't know what I'd do in the audience.
