Reviews (page 6 of 13)

Even if this isn't my preferred Bowie, it's still Bowie. The music is unconventional but still well-composed and nice to listen to.

3.5, vibes, kind of in the background, nothing excellent

I'm struck by how different Bowie sounds on every album so far in this list. He had more range than I expected. This was a cool album. Tight arrangements, interesting vocals, enough variety to keep it interesting. I liked it

This has always been a fun album to revisit from time to time. It’s definitely a transitional album that paved the way for Bowie’s Berlin Trilogy. It’s a great blend of art rock and funk rock with a touch of Krautrock and motorik beat influences. While these influences are subtle, the impact of German experimental artists is evident.

it's good but at the end of the day it's kinda just more bowie, eh?

Otimo álbum, um rock de qualidade

Scary Monsters is better.

i love the funky style of this album, it was a very enjoyable listen - golden years is of course a timeless tune, but vocally - wild is the wind stood out the most for me, arguably some of Bowie’s best vocal work

I’ve only heard Golden Years prior to listening to this album. It’s clear that Golden Years although catchy, is not the best track. I really enjoyed TVC15 upon my first listen. Stay was probably my favorite track on the album.

Très stylé

Pretty good

Love bowie

This list keeps showing me how wrong I was about not being really into Bowie.

I love David Bowie, but I've actually never heard this whole album which is very on brand for me. It's a short one! I already know and love Golden Years, love that song. I don't know if the others stand out too much to me. I think there's definitely better from Bowie, but again. I'm such a sucker for his music, even the weird in between phases. I know this was around when he was coked out lol and there's definitely has a quick pulse to the whole album. I still love Bowie, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get this album over other ones.

One minute of train noises to start a 10 minute first song...not an auspicious beginning. I get it, Station to Station so let's have some train noises. It improves rapidly though, even with more train noises. Golden Years is one of my favorite Bowie songs. Stay is good too, it's a good funk rock album. His Wild Is the Wind suffers by comparison to Nina Simone's. It's growing on me too though. The whole album is kind of a slow build, song by song.

I prefer weird rock Bowie to weird dance Bowie, but the latter is still a pleasure as well.

Starts strong, finishes strong. Loses its way a little in the middle. Not convinced this is a “must listen”, it’s a 3.5 for me, generously a 4 as I love the opener.

Such a clean sound. Amazing riffs throughout. Golden Years truly a classic.

Station To Station was a great album. I guess if i can compare it to one of Bowie's works the most, it would probably be Aladdin Sane due to it having some more of the heavy guitars that the album had. This album still felt fairly different from that one due to it having a different vibe from it with a softer tone in a lot of the songs (especially Wild Is The Wind). I still enjoyed that softer tone that this album displayed due to a lot of the songs just being generally very nice to listen to. Though when it did get more lively, that's when i enjoyed the album the most. Regardless, this album was enjoyable no matter how it sounded. Best Song: TVC15 Worst Song: Word on a Wing

Alright, let's dive into David Bowie's Station to Station. For me, this album easily earns a 4.5 out of 5 stars. This record is just fantastic. Every song on it is amazing. It's truly a testament to Bowie's genius that Station to Station feels as fresh and relevant today as it did when it first came out. It's one of those albums that you can put on years later, and it still sounds completely timeless. Compared to other great artists of that era, and even today, this album stands out. It's got a unique sound that blends soul, funk, and some intense art-rock, creating something truly special. You hear tracks like the title song, "Golden Years," or "Wild Is the Wind," and they just hit you. They're intricate, powerful, and full of emotion. This isn't just another great album; it's a piece of work that shows Bowie pushing boundaries and refining his sound in incredible ways. If you haven't given it a full listen, you absolutely should.

A turning point in Bowie's music, a dense and rich album

Few songs but all of them are good. Best tracks: Station to Station and TVC15.

David might have been a mess at the time, but this album is one of his best.

Short but classic

Title song is too damn long but Tvc15 makes up for it. Anyway it’s a pretty good album. I love this polarizing creep of an artist you can tell this is a cocaine fueled self indulgent record trying new things for the time. I think it sounds like it was pushing the envelope whirling twirling towards the future of rock.

Artsy, unique, didn't immediately click with me but the sky-high public opinion compels me to reevaluate. It's sort of like the next evolution of glam-artsiness from Roxy Music or something, but each of the songs all feel worthwhile and neat The lesson to take from this is if you're an aspiring musician and you want your upcoming album to be loved by everyone, societal peer pressure is your greatest tool

The big hits are truly incredible. I wish it had more rocking tracks like Queen Bitch, but overall great.

One of his better albums.

Awesome

I’ve never really familiarised myself with this album before and only really knew Golden Years and Wild is the Wind. I enjoyed it a lot and listened through twice - I love the production and the bass sounds great. I’ll definitely be digging deeper.

A better entry from Bowie than our previous but still a little weird for me... Bonus point for golden days though

Very cool and funky Bowie record. These songs are super accessible. Jangly funky tunes. I love that it’s so short too. Albums now need to be this short.

I like Bowie way more than I realized

FAVO: Station to station, TVC15, Stay, Wild is the wind

J - 4/5 Best Track - "Golden Years" F - DNL

Some proper rockin out songs. Bowie doesn't really miss, does he?

Pink floydy

Elements of funk, kraut rock, jazz and blues. Longer tracks, experimental. Bowie claimed not to remember any of the recordings due to his heavy drug use at the time. Not sure how I missed this one from the Bowie catalogue being pretty familiar (and a fan of) most his big albums. Strong 4/5

4/5 Whoo, it’s Bowie. Love the voice and the intensity, though Thin White Duke isn’t my favorite Bowie. Still Bowie can always intrigue me start to finish.

356/1001 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

Definitely needs more listens, felt like it petered out towards the end but starts well. Golden Years one of my favourite Bowies

Considering he doesn’t remember recording this what an album. Golden years the highlight

So good to go back to, better every time

What else can be said about Bowie that hasn't been said before? It's a good album, maybe too short on tracks, but it is an important moment of Bowie's discog, this would mark the end of debauchery and go away to Berlin to get detox and go away from the edgy persona of the thin white Duke. I'd add the title track TVC 15 and Golden Years to my playlist if I did something like that.

9/10 The ironic fascism can be cringe but god damn can this white boy dance

Classic Bowie. Not one of his best though.

Classic Bowie.

Into it. Love a good 38 minute edit. Never heard TVC15 before but I'll be revisiting. Some of this was a little much (eg. 2 minute lead into song 1), hence the 1 star off

I love the Bowie!

Station to Station Golden Years Word on a Wing TVC15 Stay Wild Is the Wind

Blink and you’ll miss it - this is only 38 minutes long. While Bowie is never bad, this is not a favorite of mine. Still, it is something I decided to listen to twice to get a feel. Bowie is almost always good. “Wild is the Wind” is a nice ending to the album.

Exactly whF I would expect from 70s Bowie.

Later Seventies after Diamond Dogs was never my favourite Bowie era but this is better than I remembered, and it’s Bowie…

Another 70s album, but it's OK, Bowie doesn't feel like 70s to me. I have never actually heard any of these songs before, though. Kinda eclectic sound -- to me there are 50s elements (and apparently Bowie was a big fan of Elvis but never worked with him), 60s elements (at least in the sense that I'm like "oh yeah sure this is Beatlesy in terms of the backing music"), and modern elements (David Bowie still sounds basically like the David Bowie I know from my own era, even though he looks shockingly young at this time (somehow this is still his 10th album; they sure made albums fast back in the day)). Hardly any of that 70s rock here (although to be honest, there's a bit on the beginning of 'Stay', which I could do without!). Lyrically, lots of religion & despair & girl getting eaten by a TV, which I guess are pretty eternal themes. A 6 song album seems like each song might be 20 minutes long, but they aren't. Good! Apparently he was in his pro-Fascist era during this one (ahead of the times!) but since none of that made it into the album, I continue separating the art from the artist and give it a nice 3.5 rounded up to 4. Highlight: 'Golden Years' Lowlight: 'Stay'

Decent album from Bowie, although short (only 6 songs, 38 minutes, more than 10 minutes alone from the title track Station to Station). Golden Years is the whole reason to listen to this album.

Partially listened before Fav tracks: title, Golden Years, Stay

So this is my second Bowie album on this list. Aladdin Sane didn’t impress me very much so i said “well, that’s why he first moved to Los Angeles and then West Berlin” in that review so indeed, here’s his LA time, coke-filled product! The title track is, well the title track and it exceeds 10 minutes but under the influence of its funk rock-driven beat the track actually sounds short! And the whole album is also very just... Vibe-y, i am just a high school student so what can i say. Although i use to hate (and still hate the majority of) soul music but hearing him singing Word On A Wing just singlehandedly made the genre 1000% more tolerable! So maybe drugs did make something happen and the heard fact is that even Bowie himself didn’t remember him recording this album. So... since even himself has forgetten what happened during the recording i'll just assume that it worked. but too much is too much, still. So he need to go to Berlin and enter rehab and it worked better. 4/5

We liked this one a lot more than the last David Bowie that was on the list. Much more musically interesting and didn't even sound like what we think of when we think David Bowie. Definitely expanded our horizons!

It’s hard to imagine bands like the Talking Heads existing without David Bowie. I think this album serves as an excellent bridge to New Wave. That said, I don’t love it enough to give it more than a four.

There is a line in the opening track where David Bowie sings “it’s not just a side effect of the cocaine” or something similar. That sounds like exactly what someone very affected by cocaine would say, but sure David. Whatever you say. I can forgive this obvious denialism because whatever the cause is, I think this album is the beginning of the era of Bowie I find most interesting and enjoyable. The aforementioned opening track, also the title track, is the longest and most and ambitious and my favorite on the album. It wanders and circles back on itself with changes in meter and mood, it’s kinda funky and kinda rock n roll, very experimental and a very fun ride for all of its ten minutes, which is not an easy accomplishment. From there we get “Golden Years”, which is easily one of my favorites of Bowie’s most famous songs. Such a fun and funky lil diddy. Of the other songs on the album I’d highlight “TVC 15” as a favorite. The remaining three songs are all varying levels of enjoyable, and the holistic effect is an album that front-to-back is really strong. 8/10

3.5 - Good

Have it

Open. Spacey. A tad odd and off-beat. Lyrics about cocaine, prayer, golden years. It sounds like it should be comforting and nourishing but there's something off about the music key that leaves me unsettled. Pre-cursor to radiohead?

83/100. A beautifully produced art rock record that balances dark, moody undertones with Bowie’s signature flair. It’s enjoyable, immersive, and above all, impressive in its ambition and execution.

The epitome of blowing your brains out with cocaine. But y'know, it's Bowie, so he took it ten notches above what any regular person could do strung out on coke. Bowie took the sound of Young Americans and put it under a microscope and dissected it to such lengths, that he made a new dystopian sound with vigor and power of a charismatic dictator. The opener is marvelous, with its multi facetted suite approach that gives some progressive rock tracks a run for their money, but I want to talk about my favorite track off here, the cover of Wild is The Wind. It's probably the first track where you can feel Bowie's mutilated personality come off and reveal the detached genius truly struggling. Everything in between is nothing short of amazing in a haunting, concerning and frightening way. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best track(s): Station to Station; Wild Is The Wind

Short but oh so sweet

Good album. I have always been a bowie fan

Complex, innovative. Word on a Wing was a highlight for me, but followed by TVC15, which did not work for me at all.

Asi krom golden years je to album na vicero poslechu

Pretty decent Bowie album

I'm not a Bowie fan but this album is worth listening before you die (fan or not). I prefer his other work though (Blackstar, The man who sold...).

I liked the guitars - golden years, buildup on Station to Station, liked Wild is hte Wind

First time I heard it. Yes, I liked it.. I will be back to it. Thank you David Bowie from mid 70s

mjög gott en lágstemmdara. mun vinna á. 4

I'm a huge Bowie fan but this is not his best. Some critics say "transitional". I think I'd agree with others that it was coke-fueled aimlessness. But it does have Golden Years and TVC15, which are fun. Favorite track: Wild is the Wind...and I know it's probably a travesty to say, but I much prefer this version to Nina Simone's. Still pretty impressive that you could make this album when on so much coke that you don't remember what city you recorded it in. I would give it a 3.5 if that were an option.

Not being a huge Bowie devotee, I'm trying to understand what everyone loves so much about this one. Nice funky backing, true. And a funny reference to Fiddler on the Roof in Stay. But apart from the singles, which I like fine, nothing about this grabs me. Sorry.

David Bowie is one of those artists that i just didn’t really listen to before this project but i’m super glad that i’ve gone and listened to all his stuff.

Not as big as his other work but still definitely Bowie

Incredible opening. The atmosphere is everything.

This is great, the instrumentation in particular is just fantastic

Good stuff

Stay was a fun find!

Balala

It was a good album I was a little preoccupied while I was listening to it, but still enjoyed it.

Some great tracks on this

Good stuff

Very good

I really enjoyed this Bowie album. I do quite like him but find it a little hit and miss. Enjoyed every song.

A Bowie album I actually liked!

Great Bowie album. 4 stars.

dessa vez o viado arrasou

Another great Bowie album, starting to think this dude was good... I liked how trim this record was, just a handful of longer tracks instead of some bloated massive thing. The title track was my favorite, the outro song was also awesome. Looking forward to more Bowie from this list.

Interesting to hear more of the Bowie discography, it's clearly mid career but was an enjoyable listen.

This is a fantastically creative album. The arrangement groove well yet have a dissonance that keep the ears intrigued. The vocals are theatrical and expressive, the instrumentals are punchy and deep in the pocket, and the lyrics are wonderfully abstract. The title track is one of the best Bowie songs I've heard yet. Golden Years, Word on the Wing, and Wild is the Wind are also stand out tracks

Not listened to full Bowie - wasn't concentrating very well on it but it was pretty good

A good Bowie album … Golden Years is in my top 10 Bowie songs and Wild is the Wind is also great … but not enough in the rest to make it 5 stars.

Peak cocaine phase. Couldn't remember any of these sessions. Yikes. Yet this album is such easy listening. You'd think it'd sound more energetic, or at least chaotic. Idk I've never touched the stuff. Closer to filler than killer but it ain't bad. The band's performance is better than his. Dig the funk. Bop bop bop.

There's a LOT of Bowie on this list. I like his music, but maybe give someone else a chance to be on here? Should there be a limit of one album per artist?

Kinda good. I like rock.

Solid Album, not Bowies best tho

Station to Station is a good, fun album, with Bowie’s mix of rock, and his signature weirdness is definitely engaging. While it’s easy to enjoy in the moment, it doesn’t really make me want to come back to it. Solid, but not something I'll find myself revisiting.

Interesting album I plan to listen to more frequently.

Pretty great Bowie Album. I always think of A Knight's Tale when I hear Golden Years.

Putting this album on only in very specific circumstances. It’ll be on my commute by walk or metro to the grocery store after work; I’ll be listening to it, not on earphones, but headphones—the retro kind, or the Koss utility pair I’ve had my eye on for some time now. It has to be a kind of ordinary day, but I should feel light about it. It should feel as though all is right in my world, and I can just be and I choose to just be in that moment. Maybe there’ll be a certain skip to my step… musingly I imagine all these sorts of details. I like that this album is short- only 6 songs. It easily transports you to a certain mood. I never really like when songs start out with speech or onomatopoeia but that’s exactly how Station To Station kicks off with—roughly a minute of train sounds. I think it put me off initially, but perhaps I can appreciate it as a stylistic choice now. By the third loop of the album, I don’t think the train sounds were as jarring as I first thought them to be. My favorite song is the fifth- “Stay”. I like it lyrically and I also like the guitar—whatever kind that it is. A guitar solo makes up all of the song’s end and it gives the song an interesting sound, it’s funky and it just sounds cool. There’s not a lot of variety in the lyrics but I really when in the chorus, Bowie says, “Stay, that's what I meant to say, or do something But I never say is stay this time I really meant to so bad this time 'Cause you can never really tell when somebody Wants something you want too” I think a lot of people would feel seen in listening to those lines,, “the singer knows my same secret longing.” I also think the final song, “Wild is the Wind” was right up my alley. It’s all soft and mellow and I can hear myself the most clearly when it’s on… This album was a great, great start.

Great record. I still rank a few other Bowie records above this one.

Stay, buena intro. Stay, me encanta, creo que mi fav. Wild is the wind, hermoso inicio!! Voz!! Sonido!!! hermoso station to station. joya. absolutamente una joya.

Solid album, far from my favorite Bowie album. While it is quite unique, I find a portion of the vocals annoying and the production not up to par of his other works. Not bad, but not amazing.

Wild is the wind är bäst.

Well, album number 2, and another I hadn't listened to fully. Really like the music in this one. One or two standout tracks but a really easy listen to throughout, again I think its a 4/5. I would imagine one of Bowie's best.

Weet een banger van bowie hoor

Bowie!!

it's good, piano-y:)

I have always had a little disdain for David Bowie. I don't know why. Maybe he seems pretentious to me, maybe I'm annoyed by how artsy everyone who listens to him thinks they are, maybe it's the fact that he said he was a closet heterosexual or whatever. The idea of Bowie annoys me, but I've never listened to anything but Under Pressure. Immediately, I'm concerned that the songs average over 6 minutes. But I like LCD Soundsystem, so length isn't much of an issue, as long as it's occupied by good music. The titular track is 10 minutes. Sigh. Station to Station: I enjoy the groovy vibe, and I do think it sounds good despite the minute or so of bullshit at the beginning. I don't like his voice much at all. It's cute and catchy and upbeat, especially at the end. A solid, groovy jam despite its inane length. Golden Years: This is also catchy and nice and friendly and poppy and good. Sounds the same as the last song, but that's probably because it's my first listen. I like the whistling, I like the "gooolden years" sort of doo-wopping in the background. And the instrumental gets more intense in the last seconds, which is cool. No fade-out. Thank god. Word on a Wing: "Ooh, ready to shape the scheme of things" was good. I liked some of the piano. It's weirdly dramatic, like a musical or an opera or something which is what I don't like about Bohemian Rhapsody. But I like actual musicals and some songs like that -- Copacabana; Holy, Holy; etc. So I don't know what my deal is. TVC15: I like that it's about a TV. I like the premise of a love song for a TV. Or an ode, or whatever you call this. And it's groovy. It's all groovy. I like it. Stay: From the jump, great guitar riff. This is the type of shit I'd listen to if I wanted to go driving at night. This, Song for the Dead by QOTSA, Catfish by Doechii... good. Edgy! Until, of course, the man opens his mouth. I dislike his voice. It's good. It's great at the start until it gets a little lamer sounding. But it's good. Wild Is the Wind: I'm already bored. I immediately do not care. This song would go better in West Side Story, I think. Why does David Bowie sound so old and ghostly? This song almost scares me. Ugh. I don't like it much.

I've gained a much bigger appreciation of Bowie through this project.

Consistently well sung and performed songs - nothing super outstanding, but overall a strong album.

Wavered between a 3 and a 4, but I'll be gracious to the Thin White Duke.

Bowie was such a talent and this album is no different. It isn't as grandiose (in a positive way) as some of his other albums but his talent still shines through.

Bowie is just so creative and he so rarely makes bad or even mediocre songs. He has a level of consistency that is rare even among the greats. Favorites: Golden Years, Word on a Wing, Wild is the Wind

I have already known the three hits ("Golden Years", "TLC15", "Wild Is The Wind") but I had'nt listened to this whole album before. With 50% of the songs beeing hits (but not his biggest) and no fails this album is an easy four stars rating for me. And very little is missing for his bowieness to the five stars. favourite musically: "Stay" favourite vocally: "Wild Is The Wind" 4,5

I think I am really starting to love David Bowie, there are so little artists out there like him. He has such a unique, original sound that, whilst often imitated (looking at you, Alex Turner) is never quite replicated. There is a very good mix of instruments and sounds throughout this album and it's the almost perfect length. It knew when to bow out before it became too tedious, for me at least. Yes, the songs are long but when done right, I don't mind that and I didn't mind it here. It features inventive, engaging lyrics with unique and striking vocals - all you'd expect from a Bowie album. I still prefer Ziggy but this was exceptionally good too. It was experimental and bold; I would definitely listen again.

He was thin. He was white.

On the hard rocks side of Bowie but with some Talking Heads weirdness thrown in which I, for one, really love. "TVC15" is both inscrutable and one of my favorite underrated trans anthems

Great Bowie

Gostei muito de Station to Station e Wild is the Wind. Gostei também de TVC 15

This doesn’t really grab me as much as some of his other stuff. I would imagine it’s a grower though. Still interesting enough for a 4

I feel like this is another Bowie album that was held back by an underwhelming production quality. The songs are catchy and fun, but they didn't click with me as much as I feel it should have. Still a really interesting album with some quality hidden gems in Bowie's catalog. Top tracks: Station to Station, Word on a Wing, Stay

A pretty good album and exactly what I expected from Bowie

Very good production. Need to listen a few more times.

Bowie is always a pleasure to listen to when it comes up on this list. Another one of Bowie's mid-70's transformation albums. Much less rock, more pop/jazz sounding than previous work. Highlights: Golden Years TVC 15 Stay Not my favorite Bowie album, but easy to listen to. 4/5

thin white duke moment 3.7

I've always been a bit on the fence when it comes to Bowie. He feels like one of those artists who are more iconic than great, in the sense that his image carries much of his influence on music. However, this is still a solid album — catchy, groovy and sonically interesting in a tight 38-minute package.

Pretty solid, not that much a fan of the first track but everything else is really good. 3.9/5

1970s banger. “Don’t you know you’re life itself?” Wild is the wind and so was Bowie.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Bowies vocals are spectacular on this album. Beautiful sound but still a very classic rock album. Definitely an album Id have to return to. Favourite tracks: Golden years Stay TVC 15

Station to Station by David Bowie 1/18/25: eating this shit up

3.75/5

Word on a Wing, Wild is the Wind. Rest is pretty great too.

Liked it a lot!

Gat past the 10min 18sec first track and it’s pure Bowie gold.

David Bowie has always been an abstraction for me. As much as I've been told to admire him and his art over the course of his career, he has never really connected with me. It might be his voice or his lyrical curiosities, or just the way most things he does seem to have an icy, intellectual remove for me. But this album finally did it for me. "Word on a Wing" and "Wild is the Wind" finally hit me in heart more than the head. I felt it and it seemed like I got it. At last. The production values of this album are also amazing. A great sounding record. Golden Years alone seems like masterclass in guitar sounds and mixing. Not a 5, but certainly a 4.

Not great, not terrible.

This is surely one of the very good Bowie albums, and I really like it. But I have to admit that I never really succeeded in fully connecting to any of his records - maybe apart from Black Star - and this one does neither. Great artsy songwriting, vocal performance is outstanding and eccentric, but the Roy Bittanish sound flavor destroys it in parts. I simply cannot stand his operatic overblown full range piano massacres of his.

Post addiction mellow. Good record! Golden Years being the biggest hit off of here. Who needs hits though? Great insight into the times surrounding the recording.

Thoughts before listening: One of Bowie's albums that gets heavy praise but came in a dark, drug fueled time in his life. These albums usually have a few pop hits but also some artsy, avant-garde songs as well. Review: Very good Bowie album although not his best (Hunky Dory is probably my favorite). I came in knowing only "Golden Years", which has long been a favorite of mine, but all 6 songs on this album are strong. Nice mix of sounds on this album from "Golden Years" disco to the more hard rock sounds of "Stay" and "TVC15". This is a 4-star album.

I wasn't familiar with this DB album but it was great. A lot more ballady stuff in there and I thought it was rich and warm and interesting. Would definitely listen again

Not a single skippable track but not quiet 5 stars too.

Only heard Ziggy Stardust so far, so this seems very different. I feel like it moves away from the more glam-rock stuff which he was doing earlier which I didn't like as much. I also generally prefer longer songs, which these are. instrumentation is quite standard, but still very good. Only complaint being some hooks kinda repeat aimlessly. Favourite songs: Station to station, word on a wing, stay and wild is the wind. Overall around 8/10

From Bowie's "Thin White Duke" era. Contains the hits "Golden Years" and "TVC 15". Not one of my favourite Bowie albums, but not his worst.

Lotsa fun! I love “Golden Years”!

Still firmly a Bowie fanatic. 4.5/5

Amazing ! 4 stars and a half!

Makes me wonder why I don’t listen to more David Bowie. Always like his songs and he is clearly an artist that focuses on albums, not songs. A pleasant listen.

Brilliant. Short, sweet, with a little fun and variety.

The critics love this album. A lot of people pretend to like this album. David Bowie doesn't remember making this album.

afang recht cool sehr artsy fartsy aber cool. return of the thin white duke und so. seeehr nice. golden years riese jam aber etz nöd soo spannend. aber sehr cool. word on a wing schöös klavier. jo cuute, tönt alles mega geil aber nimmt mi au nöd suuper ine. komisch zum ekläre. tvc15 baut extreem guet uuf, ich checks nöd so ganz aber d gitarre sind seeeehr geil. stay isch maad geil bass und gitarre und drums am tschuuutte. congas au insaane geil. okay da isch jetz seeeehr sehr geil gsi, keis füfi glaub aber han seehr spass gha und absolut faszinierend d gschicht. de text die ganz aura rund ums album.

10 minute boum sehr geile ahfang!! sehr smooth und uf sich uufbauend switch sehr cool und de schluss au! s isch jz nüt krasses gsi a er sehr churzwiiligi 10 min hahah golden years tönt funny jaa iwie bin ich kein mega bowie guy, ich find alles kinda cool aber nö meh weiss nöd öbs mier amigs zu goofy isch? stay und wild is the wind isch sehr cool gsi, schwanke zwüsche 3 und 4

Another solid effort. Top track: stay

enjoyed!! not my fave Bowie but I liked the title track a lot and TVC15- would happily listen again and see if the others grow on me prob more of a 3.5- 6/7 out of 10

Fantastic album! Station to Station, Golden Years, and TVC15 all jam. 1001 album worthy: Yes - 14/28

Short and sweet, no song here that you could say was bad, definitely one of bowies best albums 4.5*

Awesome, 4.5

The album is good, nothing really stood out to me. Bowie has always existed in my head with a fair bit of weirdness around him, and this album definitely delivers on weirdness. Nothing horrific going on, nothing worth skipping.

Nice Bowie album. Liked Low which came after so really interesting to see where his head was at just prior that. Really really good tunes.

I need an instrumental version of this

Station to station and stay are great songs, otherwise not my favorite album with Bowie. Still good overall though!

First time in a long time that I have listened to a new-to-me album completely! 4/5

This is my fourth Bowie album here. They're all great. The weird thing, is that, to me, there's usually just one song on each album that's just standout amazing. Obviously, here, that's Golden Years. I am beginning to think that for most people, they'll get the Bowie they want in a best of compilation.

An impressive lineup of tracks in a tight 38 minutes, with a decent amount of variety and a wonderful performance by Bowie. Standout track for me has to be the finale "Wild is the Wind"

liked songs: Station To Station This is a very good Bowie album... But still not his best. 3.75

I'm not really a fan of Bowie's voice, but the music on this album is great, and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Four stars from me, then.

love this one kind of a transition album in bowie's career in many ways as he leaned into slightly more out there lyrics and song structures funkier than i remember best song: station to station worst song: n/a

# Album Name: Station to Station # Artist: David Bowie # Rating: 4/5 # Comments: My first impression - interesting to see so very few tracks on this album. Starts with station to station which was decent but felt overly long. Golden years is a cracker. Great bowie song. Stay is another banger. The guitar work on this track is glorious. # Top Tunes: Golden years / Stay / Word on a wing # Would I listen to it again? Yes

Not my favourite Bowie album I think but still good. Only six songs, some good ones (Golden Years, Wild is the Wind) but didn't like TVC15. A 3 or a 4.

david bowie was him

Pretty entrancing album, and definitely unexplored territory for me. Didn't really take much away from it, but I did like it.

Pretty good, though it lacks anything that stays with me, although TVC15 is pretty great

I’ve been ambivalent to Bowie all these years, but this album moves me closer to being a fan. https://open.substack.com/pub/richcain/p/project-1001-station-to-station-by?r=4ztyq&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

10/28/24. Bowie is incredibly diverse, man. I knew about Fame, but never knew about this album that explores a lot of similar funky sounds. Not a perfect album, but it's executed really well and the songs are memorable.

Good album - title track is obviously great. Doesn't have the same emotional weight as some of Bowie's other stuff though.

Of course everyone should listen to Bowie.

yessss fav song might be TVC15

More like a 3.5 but solid David Bowie

oh hell yes, the thin white duke was one of his hottest eras

It was great

Good Bowie album, some nice guitar on this

Word on a wing es otro clásico. Otros discos de 1976: Songs in the key of life, Hotel California, Love to love you baby, Desire, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, Rocks, Oxygene, el directo de Peter Frampton, Jailbreak, Arrival, Black and blue, Fly like an eagle, The year of the cat, Calling card, los debuts de Boston, Modern lovers, Peter Tosh, Ramones y Tom Petty...

This record is sooo cool I was not into it that much before. I love TVC15

a relatively short album as far as total song, but each song is a bit of an epic that has progressive elements which slowly build on each other and don't really feel repetitive. The Thin White Duke, a Bowie persona derived from his high anxiety, paranoia, and cocaine addiction at the time, became a face for the project which incorporated a wide range of experimental that has become relatively acknowledged as his pre-eminent work.

Golden Years i Stay su mi favoriti, a ni TVC15 nije daleko, odlicne stvari.

Lovely album - but probably written and recorded in a cloud of cigarette smoke and cocaine dust in the 70s. I mean - the Thin White Duke? See, though - this is why David Bowie is the man who fell to earth and made it so much better - that even at his probably most ‘off’ persona ushers out a gorgeous record. Bowie is sorely missed - probably without knowing, the entire world misses him - it is definitely a noticeable less colourful and interesting world without him in it.

Short and sweet from Bowie during the big coke years. Lots of funk influences and a ten minute title track. TVC15 and title track my faves

This is great album from start to finish. Not my favourite by Bowie. I’m more into his Stardust period. But still… this is just great

personal favorite but not his best, 9/10

Great album

This was very enjoyable, mid-career Bowie. The longer songs were intriguing and held my interest, and very tasty guitar work throughout. A solid 4.

Classic Bowie. Some recognizable songs. Still really great.

Bowie had evolved so much in a seemingly short time from his preppy debut with his folks-y follow up, infamous glam rock phase, and briefly stepping into a more funk/soul/R&B realm with ‘Young Americans’ and this album; which is right before the excellent ‘Berlin Trilogy’. It truly shows how borderline unstoppable he was in the 70’s. He debuted a new character for ‘Station To Station’: The Thin White Duke. According to Bowie, a “nasty” character. But across the short tracklist he feels more like a detached spiritualist whose love songs are more observant, rather than featuring any actual expression. The lengthy title track, the excellent funk driven single ‘Golden Years’, and the beautiful soulful ballad ‘Word On A Wing’ all showcase this concept very strongly. A triple showcase of just what Bowie could effortlessly pull off; even at the height of his drug fuelled days. The only track that seems to break from the concept of the album is ‘TVC15’ - which is a bit of a surreal comedy bit about the character’s girlfriend being eaten by a television set. It’s a bit of an odd one out on the short tracklist as it’s much more dancey than the works that surround it. The album finishes up with a gorgeous ballad in ‘Wild Is The Wind’, with its flow-y acoustic guitar and Bowie’s hauntingly good vocals adding serious gravitas to it all. ‘Station To Station’ is an excellent record. While I wouldn’t quite rank it among Bowie’s best work, it is still a worthy edition to his extensive and eclectic discography; showing just how much the man was willing to step out and experiment. And lucky for us listeners, it almost always tended to succeed. 4/5

Good, funky , dark record. Solid tunes throughout

Super consistent in quality song writing, with seamless blending of rock, funky elements and David Bowie's incomparable quirk.

1976. 1. Station to station - Looooooong intro. Over 3 mins before vocals. I enjoyed the final chapter of the song - there were several. I think I would enjoy this more after more listens. 2. Golden Years - I already know this song. Some funky bass. 3. Word on a Wing - mid tempo, great vocals, really enjoyed this. 4. TVC15 - tiny bit know this one already. Very enjoyable. 5. Stay - Another with a funky beat. Great concluding instrumental. 6. Wild is the Wind - masterpiece. One of my favourite Bowie songs and one of my favourite ever songs. Breathtaking.

Only 6:tracks limits the rating

When I read that Bowie was so high while making this album that he barely remembers it, I expected some coked-out nonsense. But this was super enjoyable. Interesting and weird while still keeping the reins on. 4/5 Highlights: Stay

I liked this a ton. One of Bowies best. I'm torn between a 4 and 5, but I probably won't relisten enough to go with a 5. Very strong 4.

Solid 3.7

Banger of an album here. Not my favorite Bowie record but damn. One of his most rock-oriented albums, with classics like 'Golden Years'. Masterclass of creating such a good album with just 6 tracks. Having not heard the album before, the opening title-track just blows your mind. Long live one of the goats

A bit weird..

This was a first listen of the album for me and I really enjoyed it. Felt like Bowie was exploring a little more avant garde style but still had his fingerprints on it. I liked hearing him incorporate longer jams and exploring funk and disco influences through the album. Surprising it’s only 38 minutes long. Standout track for me was “Stay”

I love me some David Bowie

Not my favorite album of his but anything Bowie is fine with me regardless 😊😎

Accomplishes the difficult task of being both transitional and a great album. Excellent grooves throughout. From art to pop with a little croon. Another step towards the becoming the Bowie that would endure...

Short but sweet.

another groundbreaking song collection from bowie. apparently in interviews he's stated that he doesn't remember writing this album which is crazy to me. it's unfortunate that i expected a bit more. this album is very good, as with a lot of stuff created by bowie, and i can't deny that he's an important musician in the 20th century, but i just can't get into his sound as much as i'd like to. i don't know what it is... i love the songwriting and especially the lyrics, i just turn less of an eye to how the tracks actually sound. maybe it's his... creative vocal harmonies.

Great singer, great music. Died way too young. Love his work. One of a kind.

An instrumental take from Bowie, I liked it a lot.

Det svinger men på en kølig måde.

Not peak Bowie but yes it is Bowie.

Classic Bowie and the first of the Thin White Duke period. Stand out tracks: - Station to station - Golden years - TVC15 - Stay - Wild is the wind

Short, sweet and elegant. Nothing wrong with that.

this was a banger

I like Bowie. This is no exception. Short, cocaine-fuelled fun. What's not to like?

I too have a TVC15 and know exactly what he is singing about.

Eh fine

Love the album. Reminds me of that dark feeling at 2 AM when you know you should not do more coke but you do anyways; probably what he was doing when recording. The middle of the album was a tiny bit weak in comparison to the title song and the last two songs. Though the middle songs felt a bit more heartfelt. The keys he plays are sometimes bluesy, jazzy, and I love when he gets funky. Station to Station the song is fucking awesome and then it gets funky as hell with the last two tracks. Love it. Stand out tracks: Station to Station, Stay, Wild as the Wind.

++: Golden Years, Word on a Wing, Stay +: Station to Station, TVC15, Wild Is the Wind 8,8/10

biased opinion, I love David Bowie

Having never listened to a David Bowie album, this was a nice introduction to the man. The vocal performances from David never fail to impress. The man knows how to cook a great album even when he's on a cocaine binge. Love this man. Best - Word on a Wing (MPF), TVC15, Stay, and Wild is the Wind Worst - no bad songs 4.25/5

My favorite of the three Bowie albums I've been recommended so far. Snatches your attention away from all else and keeps it captive the whole way through.

Another decent Bowie album.

Station to Station is a fitting name, whether done intentionally or not. This album is a transition from funky Bowie to Krautrock Bowie. Bowie has always been someone I respect more than I actually want to listen too. The title track is great, but I hate Golden Days. 7.9/10

Absolutely great album! Obviously Golden Years is a banger but I loved Station to Station as well as Stay. Word on a Wing and Wild is the Wind were my least favorites. Guess I'm more into Bowie's more upbeat tracks.

Favourite Song: Station to Station

Fun album. Short.

Golden Years and Stay were good, everything else was alright.

Really enjoyed this. With a few more listens it may become a 5 but it’s not quite there

4/5 because this album doesn’t have life on mars

Not bowies best...but still very good music

This was a great album. Almost every track had something unique, yet Bowie to offer!

Word on Wing and Stay are standouts. I think the main appeal is that he wrote this in a coke fuelled haze that he can't remember. Fascinating to listen to the words of someone when they can't even recall where they came from.

You can really hear all the cocaine on this album. I love this erratic strung out banger of an album. It has all the innovation, mix ups and utterly weird sounds that I’d expect from Bowie. I’m sure he’ll get help for that little habit in no time….

This is a classic for a reason. Absolutely slaps. A little slow at points but still a very solid piece

Even with a 10 minute opening track this album kind of felt to short, but that is probably just a testament to the quality and flow of it. It may have just been one 40 minute track. Golden Years kind of stands out, but it's a great listen that can just go on whenever. I think I've had about 6 Bowie albums on this list so far, and all are quite different musically but still equally great. 4.5/5

The songs on this album are pretty cool, however many songs end by repeating the same line over and over which I don't really enjoy. Overall I have enjoyed this album quite a lot.

Fave track is TVC15 , like the percussion on stay which is my 2nd place. A lesson on keeping interest and structure without going overboard

Bowie is a legend. 1. Station to Station - Could do without the first half of the song, the second half is good though. 2. Golden Years - Banger. 3. Word on a Wing - Too operatic for my tastes. 4. TVC15 - Didn't love this one on first listen, but then found myself humming it later in the day. Liked a lot on second listen. 5. Stay - This was my surprise favorite of the album. 6. Wild Is the Wind - Also not feeling this one.

Not peak Bowie for me. Good listen though

I've never heard of this Bowie album before but it's great. Despite only being 6 songs, all of them are expertly made and memorable. Maybe not the best of Bowie's catalogue but is nothing to ignore. Instrumentally it is extremely good and I really like it. Great addition to this list and an album I need to listen to multiple more times to fully appreciate.

For an artist the I revere such as Bowie, I’ve actually heard remarkably little of his discography. I’ve heard “Ziggy Stardust” and “Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps)” in full, and now because of this project I’ve heard “Heroes.” I loved “Ziggy,” but was underwhelmed by the other two. But I love Bowie. Weird, right? I was starting to wonder if he was one of those artists who best work is best ingested by greatest hits and being in the know about deep cuts, with a couple good albums mixed in. I don’t have the answer after listening to this album, but I can say that he in fact does have more than one great album. This was such an interesting listen. It felt very Bowie, but more once I was reminded of Talking Heads. I assumed at first that this was because of Brian Eno, but he had nothing to do with this album as far as I can tell. I’ve heard Bowie do so many different genres and sub genres, and I couldn’t tell you what this is but it was intriguing. The title track is a sprawling suite that introduces the Thin White Duke character. It had highs and lows, and serves as a great opener for the album. What follows is a small collection of songs mostly longer than four minutes. They vary in style and in substance. Often shrouded in a little bit of that Bowie mysticism and obtuseness when it comes to lyrics, they leave a lot of room for relistening and interpretation. Musically they keep you along for the ride every step of the way. It’s hard to be more specific than what I’ve written above. This really requires multiple listens to fully grasp. And I don’t have the time for that at this point. But it’s a great album that deserved placement on this list. Four stars. Standout Tracks: Station to Station, Golden Years, Word on a Wing, TVC15

Pretty unusual and varied. I think I'd only ever heard "Golden Years" before this. I'm not sure if I liked it but it was definitely good.

Worth exploring more

I never know what I’m going to get with Bowie, but it’s always welcome. This is no exception. Golden Years is a great song and the stand out to me.

Really good

One of the better David Bowie albums. The longer songs work well on this one, especially since there are only 6 tracks.

Another pretty good Bowie album that’s not like crazy or anything. I do think I liked this one better than his orher albums we got. Are we finally done with the Bowie albums? I think we should start betting on random albums and like someone owes/gets money if a certain album shows up before/after a different one. The songs were a bit long but the album is shortish so like ig that evened out.8/10

One of his better ones imo, classic Bowie sound 8/10

Probably the best Bowie album we've had, but I still don't get why he has so many albums on the list. He's consistently pretty good but never anything more than that

Couple of classics. Peak David Bowie.

This is a top 5 Bowie album for me (not that I’ve heard all of them, despite the generator’s best efforts). I struggle to put my finger on why exactly it’s so good - it’s not like it’s full of bona fide classics. I guess there’s just something about the sound he landed on here: raw but polished, dark but fun, robotic but funky… well to be honest I struggle to describe what genre each individual track is, let alone the album as a whole (or why they work together), and that’s probably part of its appeal. That and the fact the title track is just really, really excellent. 4/4.5

I enjoyed this. He’s got such a cool and sexy sound and almost an effortless quality to the emotion he evokes. Apparently he was super coked up during these recordings, so maybe that helped.

Bowie evolved his sound so each album is different, but they are all cool. This is no exception.

It was good to hear the album where many favorites came from. Had only listened on compilations before.

not my favorite from him but still good

1001 albums has taught me that my bowie knowledge has a lot of gaps. this was another new one for me! really good and funky. i know david bowie was basically living on cocaine at this point and i don't want to encourage that but damn if this isn't a good album.

It's the sound of an artist maturing and in that way it's kind of transitional - but that's not to say it's boring. With Bowie the transformation is often the best part. I love this album.
