Reviews (page 8 of 13)

Bowie is as the album would probably suggest in transition. Heading from one station to another. This sat between two of Bowies classics this is a short but loaded record that does exactly what it sets out to do…refresh us.

Den här skivan är kinda brazy... ja borde höra på den igen, hans vocals är så speciella...

Pretty wonderful! The title track is a full ten minutes long and races by, crammed as it is with so many textures and ideas. Interesting to hear, amongst the artsier flourishes, some unexpected influences coming to bear. Both 'Station To Station' and the rollicking 'TVC15' feature boogie piano that owes as much to Mrs Mills as anything, whilst the harmonies of 'Word on the Wind' bring the Wailers to mind. Ambitious, playful and restless, this is hip. And, as with virtually every Bowie project, there's often something twisty and interesting going on with the vocal melodies.

To be able to produce an album and have little to no recollection of it is amazing. Golden years is amazing. The rest seems to be the birth of alternative rock in my opinion. Bowie was years ahead, as usual.

Some of these days, and it won't be long Gonna drive back down where you once belonged In the back of a dream car twenty foot long Don't cry, my sweet, don't break my heart Doing all right, but you gotta get smart Wish upon, wish upon, day upon day, I believe, oh Lord I believe all the way Come get up, my baby Run for the shadows, run for the shadows Run for the shadows in these golden years Solid Bowie album. 4/5

Solid Bowie, but not my favorite of his. Good.

Not every song was groundbreaking, but every song was enjoyable. A Knights Tail vibes with Golden Years!

Favorites: -Golden Years -Word On A Wing -Wild Is The Wind

Good! Golden years is my favourite track.

The Thin White Duke era bowie, aka the cocaine era, not his best work - but still very enjoyable. This isn't completely subjective as Bowie is one of my favorite artists; and my rating will show that. Inspired after meeting Nina Simone, WIld is the Wind is an amazing recording, coincidentally reviewing this on her birthday. At the end of the day, Bowie is legendary artist, he never missed.

I actually enjoyed this for once

Bowie!!! The drama!!!! Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!! Love it

Definitely lots of quality on here. I felt the closing track kind of let the album down but I’m hoping it grows on me. Was quite a bit more energy than I expected from David which was a really nice surprise! 8/10

Bowie is one of the greatest of all time!

Such a great move: six dense and very autarchic songs in under 40 minutes. Boiled down to its essence this album marks Bowie’s strong artistic self esteem. A pleasure to give this another round, and another, and another. 3,7

listened to again another great bowie album

Different than what I’m used to with Bowie, but still an amazing album.

Solid well made album with good instrumentals. I actually really like David Bowie now

two great singles and wild is the wind ... maybe one of his best albums?

You knowie I love that Bowie. Great album from start to finish. Golden Years will forever rip

This dude don’t miss. This had a pretty big sound but also brought the funk. Had my head bobbin the whole time.

This has probably the greatest song every written on it. Actually, it definitely has the greatest song ever.

It’s too late nice opener nowt special though. Golden years great track - Talking Heads?!

Strong and memorable tracks. Good variety of tunes.

Great cool album title track is epic so far my third favorite Bowie album I’ve listened too behind hunky, ziggy

It’s a good album but I just don’t like this kind of music as much as the stuff on hunky Dory Ziggy stardust or Aladdin sane. Still though all 6 of these tracks are proper bangers! 4/5

Banger fuckin album

excited to revisit

Every ones a winner winner chicken dinner :)

Enjoyed some piano driven Bowie songs that I had never heard.

Very interesting to hear someone’s perspective of a drug trip. Legend

I think I need to listen to this more times, because I did not fall in love with it today, but I was really intrigued, and lots of it were truly wonderful. I have remarked before that some of Bowie's albums are not ones that work as a casual, one- (or two-) time listen. "Golden Years" is a song I've always liked, but "Wild is the Wind" was really a revelation for me in appreciating Bowie as a singer.

I was never a fan of the Golden Years and so I wasn’t overly thrilled to see this album. However, in the context of the album, the track fits, and I enjoyed the album experience.

J’a ecoute plusieurs fois et je suis pas convaincu. Pourtant je capote sur cest autres album. C’est pas mon prefere. 4

Excelent 9/10

It isn't that Bowie – Station to Station is a victim of his success (far from it). And it isn't that albums like this (or, as another example, Lodger) were buried by the success of some of his other stuff. (This album was top 5 on both sides of the pond; thereafter, Bowie wasn't a "commercial" draw until Scary Monsters and Super Freaks in...81?, and then (Stateside) with Let's Dance) (Yes, yes, the Berlin Trilogy. Brilliant albums, critical darlings, did nowt for many a year. Facetiously (partly) I can't help thinking sometimes that Bowie Bonds were a way of chiseling out the commercial rewards that they deserved and were denied.) Station to Station is overlooked, I think, in part because it defied characterisation – as did the Thin White Duke, heroin chic aside. (Cocaine Chic? Qualuudes? Who knows. Probably the lot.) Likewise the album. Station to Station, the opening song, is (if I may coin a genre) industrial blues; Wild is the Wind, which closes the album, is a torch song and I'll fight anyone who says differently). It's a great album that doesn't instruct the listener to do anything (dance, smoke, fuck) other than to shut up and pay attention. It's a good 'un

Not my favorite Bowie record but very good

Haven't had a Bowie album in a while! I think this must be close to the 600th album of his here. I don't recognise any of the tunes this time. 35min later: perfect album length, standard catchy Bowie. I couldn't say he's a favourite but fuck he can write a song. 4/5.

The whole synth thing at the back half

wonderful ... simply spiffing

Muy bueno!!

Station to.. ASEMALLA SOITELLAAN JA SVENGAILLAAN::: EI MENNÄ NUKKUMAAN!!! Kopiokone,.. jenkkilässä raksuttanu,,,,,, Ei ollu Nylén oikeassa... ei kovinkaan SUURherra... Bowie ollut.......2016.. kups.. kaps... kupsahti... Olikohan albumit kuunneltu... hehheh...Trumpista nylen oikeassa.... suurherra.. ja paljon antana,,, kestänä...amerikaan kansa... 2025.....

Brand new listen. Golden years is the single, it should have been stay the guitar on that song is just to good, it’s been added to the list. Station to stations intro, feels like an ode to early stereo systems (ala pink Floyds Money) and goes from, waiting to start, man this is repetitive and a self indulgently long into, to don’t stop now this is rocking..

Apart from the closer, the superb cover of Wild is the Wind, I did not care much for this on a first listen (similar to my experience many years ago). However, the second listen was much more enjoyable, and who knows what subsequent listens will bring. Again I find myself awarding four stars to a Bowie album; only Young Americans and Low got five stars.

Another beautiful Bowie. Great closing song.

70s Bowie is always a win for me. It doesn't have the raw power of Ziggy, nor the broad experimentation of what would follow (Low, Heroes, Lodger), but this IS the Thin White Duke.

I know I shouldn't say this but between Black Sabbath's Vol.4 and Bowie here, cocaine is looking like not such a bad thing. Aside from ruining your health and life and harming those around you, it does make for some pretty good albums if you are already pretty talented it seems.

Not my favorite Bowie album, hence 'only' 4 stars. I hope Blackstar and Earthling will soon follow!

Liked it. He is always quirky

Who knew a diet of milk, red peppers, sausage and cocaine psychosis could sound so good? Best Tracks: Station to Station; Golden Years; TVC15

cómo lo banco a bowie. 8/10

Station to station- I have to say I’d never heard of the Thin White Duke but I guess he’s back Golden years- A little long but still a good tune👍 Word on a wing- Desperate prayer, very solid👍 TVC 15- this is catchy and inspired by a funny story Stay- great funky guitars and I like lyrics👍 Wild is the wind- Good cover, I wonder if I’ve listened to the Nina Simone version? Very tight album with good tunes, songs could be shorter (feels like padding at start and end sometimes) but enjoyable to listen to overall. 4/5

It’s Bowie, I liked it. Solid, not standout.

Good, not my favorite Bowie, but enough classics on it to be up there, 3.7 stars

Iistens: 4 Enjoyed: yeah Got some great tracks but doesn't particularly stand out to myself as a whole project

wish I could 5 this but it’s not Low

Not one I've listened to before. Definitely will revisit

efter en andra omgång så hade han mig

Fun blend of operatic/theatrical and classic rock

10/12 Need to give it another listen. Not bad at all.

"Golden Years" was the only familiar track to me on this, but overall I enjoyed it. I listened once while working and didn't absorb much, then gave another listen and was impressed with the experimentation and production, trying new things while remaining very listenable.

Bowie to Bowie

This list is full of amazing David Bowie albums and this one is no exception. Great concise album, not on the same level as Low or Ziggy (those being my favourites) but it's pretty close.

Quite short this one, but some really great songs on there. I love love love love love Wild is the Wind, I genuinely think it might be my favourite Bowie song ever. I know it's a cover, but he sings it with so much pain and soul and it's JUST sublime.

Solid album, I didn't realise Golden Years was by David Bowie, but here we are

phenomenal

a good bowie album! big like FAV TRACKS: TVC15, Station to Station

Pretty good Bowie, but a bit to disco for my taste.

While it continues bowie's growth, is it his best, I do not think so.

Digging this right off the bat. Great 70s guitars. 2nd half of the album is sick.

8,2 Great sound Make you wanna dance

Any David Bowie album is cheating for this. Whilst I do love this album, I can't give it a 5 as it has fewer tracks then usual and there are 1 or two track on here (mainly Wild is the Wind) that aren't as strong as the rest of the album.

J'ai pas trop fait gaffe mais ça avait l'air bien

je l'ai écouté dans le métro par respect

Classic Bowie, always a great listen if you are in the mood.

so short! so sweet!

Does Bowie have bad albums? This still sounds fresh. Short, probably without a standout hit compared to others in his catalogue but all quality.

Bowie 👍👍👍

Its Bowie. Its going to be good

2nd Bowie album. Growing on me. I liked the composition a lot. The dramatic theatrical performance must be what people love. I don't understand Bowie but I'm enjoying figuring him out

just cool asf really 8/10

Phenomenal, guitar work on Stay is incredible

Sometimes a bit too Bowie, but otherwise nice melodic 70s rock.

Not the best Bowie I've heard, but still good. Golden Years is a fabulous song.

Golden years is a 4 by itself - and the rest of the album is pretty good. Not his best, but pretty good

Byrjunin á þessari plötu skellir mér alltaf á bólakaf í Christiane F. Svo eru lögin sem ég lærði að meta og að lokum hið magnaða Wild is the wind, sem mörg hafa sungið um en mögulega aldrei hlustað á. Þau sem eiga það eftir ættu að hlusta. Magnað stöff.

Interesting starting point, big fan of Bowie and specifically golden years but hadn't heard the full album before. One song (track 4 or 5) had an almost gospel quality to it

8/10. I did quite like the album, very nice and chill, but damn this list has a lot of Bowie.

Very solid, makes me wonder what methodology they used to select certain Bowie albums. They’ve pretty much all seemed decent but nothing life-changing other than Ziggy. 8/10

Here we see the emergence of the controversial Thin White Duke, a figure that expresses a sort of romanticism while being devoid of any real emotion himself. This album feels similarly. Bowie is still exploring funk and soul influences (note the cover of ‘Wild is the Wind’), but there a simmering quality to these songs that foreshadow the Berlin trilogy of albums that would be forthcoming. Like the Thin White Duke, Bowie is expressing something, but has not come to fruition yet. Bowie has stated that the period in which this album was recorded was the darkest, and by his expressive lyrics and subdued delivery, we can see this album as Bowie crying for help without being able to fully form the words.

Chameleon like Bowie had changed once more. Spectacularly good.

Lovely Bowie - not the best Bowie album, but not bad by any means.

Great album which grows with every listen. Strong 4*

Good album

This by far my favorite post Ziggy Era Bowie album. Musically the album is very interesting and fun album to listen to.

On first listen I didn’t really like it. Seemed like more post Ziggie Bowie that I never really got into. But listed a couple of more times and it grew on me each time. I think the intro on Station to Station is too long but overall I really enjoy the album now.

Good as an album.

Really great album, I enjoyed listening to it!

Great album. More consistent than Low I think.

Ooooh nice

Not quite 5 stars, but almost...

Pretty on par with most other Bowie albums which just means it’s great and an easy album to listen to over and over. Golden years is a classic. The album is short and concise. He doesn’t leave much behind on this one. This isn’t my favorite Bowie album but it’s still solid. 7.6/10

This is the second Bowie album I’ve gotten on this and I don’t think I’ve quite figured him out? It’s really good music, I love the instrumentation and the singing - some of these songs really groove - but I’m not yet to the point where I can look at a record like this and say, “this is one of the greatest albums of all time”. Maybe I’m just a singles guy, or maybe I’m not listening to the lyrics close enough.

There is no denying his talent. I don't know why I never got into him when I was younger. Maybe it was growing up in conservative Eastern Oregon and not having the courage to go that far against the grain as a teenager. It is for sure my loss. This isn't my favorite album of his, but this one is still damn good.

I liked this quite a bit. Short and snappy, kinda weird as Bowie often is, but still a nice listen.

Enjoyable album, great vocals, good music, I'd listen again

So good.

It's very transitional and very artsy in a way which the Berlin trilogy doesn't really approach. Those albums took the krautrock influences and made them more...commercial, I suppose? There's no "Heroes" on here, or even a "Sound and Vision". When I'm listening to the album I think it's great, but when it's over I find myself unable to remember a single note.

Great album...I like Bowie when he does the longer tracks. 4 of the 6 tracks are classics. The other 2 are good..Love the grooves, production is good, reference and reverence to Kraftwerk.. it all fits together well even though DB was coked up through it all! 4.5

Bowie was always ahead of his time and in this case its no different. He sounds like he's coked up in the 80s but it was only 1976.

Very comfortable, but running a touch late.

Good, but not my favourite Bowie album.

Not one of Bowie’s best albums, we’re it not for golden years then it would have been a bit mediocre, still worthy of a 4 as it’s Bowie

I'm not a huge Bowie head, so I was not too familiar with this album. Don't get me wrong, I love David Bowie, there's just a lot of catalogue in there. This album just kinda floats in and sits calmly for the first bit. Then it takes off from there. Nothing overwhelming, but makes for some great, engaging listening.

A good surprise…. Complex but totally enjoyable

I love Bowie, but this is not my favorite era of him. I give 4 stars just because there are much better Bowie albums in my opinion. Of course it is great, too :)

First time hearing this one and I'm glad I finally got the chance to check it out! Doesn't jump out at me as an immediate favorite of Bowie's, but I could see this growing on me. I will definitely come back to this one.

3rd Bowie Album so far, and this one is quite different than the others I listened to as they were both very early in his career. This is a bit more "traditional", some funk, some glam. Golden Years is a bop, Stay was awesome too. The others I enjoyed, overall a good album, 6 long songs in there and each having something unique to offer.

Great, but short album! I particularly like his version of Wild is the Wind!

Love this! Especially Wild is the Wind!

Quite the surprise. Great instrumentals but limited vocals on the initial tracks. Excellent soundtrack for Monday drive time

Quite a unique album. Kind of an intersection of funk and krautrock? Like if you taught a robot the basics of funk, or something. A record that, on first surface listen, I enjoyed, but feel like I could listen to a few more times and dig further and further. Favorite tracks: "Golden Years", "Stay"

Really one of the best Bowie has released. After the soulful era came this Thin White Duke. 4.5*

That was brilliant ! A straight up 4*

Отличный альбом, но к сожалению, не все нравится у Боуи

Never liked Bowie, the album is decent. The style is grateful deadish and there are some nice guitars and drums in Station to Station, Stay and Wild is the wind. 3.5

Cocaine is a hell of a drug 4

Estupendo álbum muy bien producido y con canciones muy bien elaboradas. La voz, inconfundible

Funky album! Haven't heard most of these tracks, really enjoyed it! One or two meh tracks, but overall strong!

Good album, which lead to a much greater period. But it’s also another cocaine record. (7/10) FT: Golden Years

Good album!

28th January 2022 Listened in the shower then drove back to glos for the weekend. Zavid getting a bit more experimental and funky. 4.5 if I could.

Station To Station has some stand songs, but overall this isn't one of my favorite Bowie albums. 4/5 stars

Only david bowie could make a 10 minute song that I would actually choose to listen to multiple times

I firstly must admit that I am a David Bowie fan. On first few times of listening to this album I was not sure, now I love it. The title track is amazing. It was typical of Bowie to go in a totally different direction with his music although he knew it may alienate some fans. Definitely worth listening to.

Great album, from the opening sound effect to the closing crooning of Wild Is The Wind. Every time I play this I choose a different favourite, but this time it’s the funky Stay. Arguably one of Bowie’s more coherent albums in terms of a consistent tone throughout. Highly recommended.

I love it how Bowie just jerks around on the whole album, not bothered about format, styles and song lengths. He is free to be... an artist. He'd probably earned this right by the time Station to Station was released. Or maybe it was the drugs? The bass line on Golden Years could get a reaction out of a corpse. Love it how TVC15 was played at Live Aid.

3.7 - solid Bowie album without a lot of fat. “Golden Years” is one of my favorite songs of his.

Bowie coolness is its own coolness.

Very funky and vibey. Favourites - Wild is the Wind, TVC15, 2nd half of station to station

Sin ninguna canción icónica. Le voy a poner un 4 porque es Bowie...

Not naturally a Bowie fan but loved the electronica influences & story telling.

ik ben nooit een zeer grote bowie fan geweest, nooit de hype echt begrepen. Hier moet ik wel eerlijk zijn. Dit was goed. Beter dan andere albums imo. Hij heeft hits maar dit album vond ik all around goed.

Danku Bowie, is genieten ⭐️

got half way through but very sweet. Lots of interesting noises together on one album. First introduction to the Thin White Duke.

Well that was a thouroughly enjoyable listen Stand out track: Stay

Bowie.

Hit or miss, Dačo never misses

Another one.

Pop rock.

The goblin king.

Another great 70s Bowie album.

About time I got a Bowie album. Wasn't familiar with this one but enjoyed it after a few listens. Literally not one track which was unpleasant to listen to and particularly liked Station to Station and Wild Is The Wind.

Bowie being Bowie. Excellent album some of the deeper tracks get a little artsy and esoteric for me. Overall enjoyable but not one of my favorites.

Station to Station is a space-age-cocaine-fueled insight into the mind of Bowie at the time with the Thin White Duke persona that he adopted. There are some very odd references that Bowie attributes to the album including references to the stations of the Cross and the Kabbalah. As Bowie was so disconnected with the album as a whole he attributes it "as a piece of work by an entirely different person". Best: Station to Station Worst: Wild is the Wind

Thank you album generator. I needed this today. Bowie is one of my all time-favorites. Having recently reviewed Blackstar, it's great to get a chance to go back to one of his earlier records. I have not listened to many Bowie albums in their entirety. I've listened to some live albums and over time I've heard entire albums in pieces, but not all in one sitting. I like that he reinvents himself from project to project. The "Thin White Duke" moniker is so cool - I wonder if he proclaimed himself that or if it was given to him. Either way, the fact that he incorporates it in his music is great. I think Station to Station as a song is a really fun "ride," starting with the sound mixing and then just the musical ride straddling genres. Golden Years is such a great song!

liked it a lot! like bowie in general

Definitely a classic. It's easy to see the complexity of the music and the layers of sounds that still stays within a rock genre but adding ecletic funk and style. Really easy to appreciate this album.

The last two Fridays we have been getting albums I own. That makes it easy… While this is not my favorite Bowie album, it’s quite good. It does have probably my least favorite song on it. Going to go through each track: Station To Station - the opening of this song is so menacing. I heard live versions first, check out the “Stage” version if you haven’t already. Adrian Belew is great in it. 5/5 Golden Years - is it wrong that I think of this like a b-side to “Fame?” It was released afterward and it has that same kind of funk for me. 5/5 Word On A Wing - eh. I always forget about this one, which doesn’t say much about it. 3/5 TVC15 - Ugh. I. HATE. This song. I remember hearing it on Live Aid, the “oh oh oh oh oh” were so grating. Transmission indeed. 0/5 Stay - Ah, NOW we’re cooking. I like the backup vocal in the high register. Very creepy. 4/5 Wild Is The Wind - I always felt this song was like a verse too long. I don’t know why. 4/5 Averaging those that’s right at 3.5. That’s at an ok to good. The one song really drags it down for me.

Outside of a few songs I could never stand Bowie's music. Not to say I don't respect him as a musician, just not my cup of tea. Golden Years still holds up. Word on a Wing is a pretty beautiful piece (even if I don't feel compelled to listen to it again). TVC15 is funky. Stay gets better the more you listen to it. Didn't change my view on Bowie but I give it a 4.

This was one of the earliest Bowie albums that I bought after getting into his music through his 90s output. Back when I first bought it the album didn't hit me that strongly but as the years went by I fell in love with it. It has such an assortment of different things dong on here that you can almost feel the cocaine-fueled frenzy that was going on in his mind at the time. I didn't realize that Wild is the Wind was a cover (Thank you Aaron) and will have to check out Nina Simone's version too.

Station to station and Stay are my faves. Pretty good.

A swankier and stankier Bowie than I heard on Heroes, but Eno and Fripp’s hand in the matter is sorely missed for me.

Can't go too far wrong with a Bowie album. Enjoyed this one

Actually very good. It is consistently good throughout the album. Short album but doesn't feel rushed.

Great to hear this again - just years ahead of its time. Love Wild is the Wind

Ascoltato distrattamente mentre studiavo. Però mi è piaciuto. Da riascoltare con più attenzione. Molto carina la prima. Le altre non mi sono entrate in testa.

🖤🖤🖤🖤

Slow beginning, solid beats, pretentious ending. Good background

Couple of good songs. Definitely would listen again but probably not going in the regular rotation

Solid 4/5. The Title Track is the strongest imo. Timeless Classic.

-"Golden Years" is catchy, but that might be because he says "Golden Years" about 475 times -I've preferred "Earthling" from Bowie

Really enjoyed this album - loved Golden Years

Beautiful-- so full of emotion and heart, making a powerful impression on the listener in feeling what Bowie is feeling. Best song is Wild is the Wind, for sure

Always enjoy Bowie. Liked that he did a cover of Wild in the Wind, and of course Heroes

fuck yeah. banger. rating - 7.5/10; standout - golden years, s/t, tcv15

Me ha gustado mucho!

Superfedt album, men ikke et af mine favorit-bowies

Nada fan de Bowie, pero se me hizo bastante fácil de escuchar

⛷🦴🤟🏿

My cat, coincidently also named Bowie, ranks this as David Bowie's 5th best album. He is a cat of discernable taste.

Already an album I knew I liked and didn’t disappoint. It’s on the lower end of the good Bowie stuff, but that’s pretty good by most standards.

good stuff

Jazzier and more danceable before Bowie hits his artistic peak with the Berlin trilogy of Low, 'Heroes', and Lodger.

It was obviously great, but it wasn't as good as his other stuff we have heard so far.

first Bowie album i've really enjoyed

Can you even go wrong with bowie? This is a testament to no

Ruchira: it was expressive. And jolly.

This is very different from everything else that I already listened to from David Bowie. I prefer his more recent work, but it's very interesting to listen to this album.

Solid album from the Thin White Duke. The opening track, named after the title, was just over 10 minutes, but did include an intro mimicking a train station. Golden years is such a fun silly song and has always been one of my favorites and sounds like it influenced some of the new wave that followed like the Talking Heads. Overall I’d give the album a 9 out of 10.

The the intro to Stay with the funky guitar riffs by Earl Slick and Carlos Alomar is probably the most scintillating minute I've ever heard. Bowie's Berlin era albums are some of my favs, and you can hear the Eno and Kraftwerk influences here. Station to Station, TVC15 and Wild is the Wind are brilliant, but one of my least favourite Bowie songs -Golden years is on here so its doesn't quite get a perfect score from me

Pretty strong art rock from the thin white duke. 7/10, could be even crazier and left-field.

Cobain can you hear The Spheres singing songs off Station to Station? Notations toast its fun funky sound, love it.

good one, short but good

I thought I didn’t like Bowie. Maybe it’s just because I listened to this album without doing anything else at the same time, or maybe this album just hits better for me. Either way I enjoyed it

Golden Years is on this album. Worth listening just for that alone

Always love me some Bowie.

Bom dms, pena que é curto

This album is a showcase to how bowie as an artist can redefine him self through his different personas(in this case the "thin white duke") and still maintain the quality of music. You can still find the soul and funk that bowie was known for but he shows a different side along with it. The title track shows this and though it's 10 mins long it doesn't feel that way. Delivering a great journey of sounds. This album also has possibly my favourite bowie song "golden years" and again showcases his funk influences. The haunting singing on "word on a wing" helps to further his "new sound" with this album. He also gives you a dancey disco-esque track with TVC15, though for me slows down a bit much for the last 2 songs("stay" and "wild is the wind" but both are still good tracks) Not regarded as the best of Bowie but still a fantastic album to experience.

Was a bit distracted to hear this as a whole piece. But right from the intro it hit a few spots behind the ears and had me wagging my tail whenever I put it back on.

50 minutes of spacey jam, and plenty of space for contemplation. Absolutely wonderful, if not a little unmemorable.

really nice

thin white duke~ - C

Superb. One of those where I know I should love Bowie, but I've never properly invested the time in him. Very much enjoyed this and will be exploring more.

This album flies. And each song sounds like three songs

Bowie is always good. Fun, dramatic, cool.

ouvir mais.

Enjoyed it, quite a few Bowie songs that I hadn't heard before but thought it was good

Decent album from Mr. Bowie.

Bowie is great but this was just good to me.

Great album, but not exactly my taste

I should listen to Bowie more often. Good vibe, rock and rolling.

Fedt album, men noget dystert og eksperimentelt 3.5 stjerne

Great long tracks

Good. A little too 70s psych for me, but good.

Remains the Bowie album that I really should return to more but never do to a sufficient degree to really understand it. It has the right ratio of experimentation, with neither the tracklist nor any of the tracks feeling bloated. This may be the first time I heard it by itself, and not as the prelude to the Trilogy. Or maybe I'm crazy.

7.5/10

Some ups and downs, but never boring, definitely a vibe. Looking for to checking out more Bowie

Not my favorite Bowie album but still a good listen. "Golden Years" is a great song.

Didn’t like most of this album.

I've seen lists with this at the top of all Bowie albums, but find it very hard to agree. I mean, it's brilliant, this man is a genius, etc... But it just doesn't connect for me. Ziggy Stardust is a level above this in my opinion. However, I've only listened to this once or twice, so I can't say my opinion is 'fully formed'. I enjoyed it overall! Will listen again one day.

No me gusta la voz de Bowie. Entiendo su influencia y su importancia, pero no es algo que disfrute mucho. La música está súper interesante

Listenable enough, and deserves praise for its varied sound and epic scope, but it doesn't stir or fascinate the way that Hunky Dory and Ziggy Stardust do. It lacks much in the way of hooks and if Bowie's vocals on Wild Is the Wind are among the best of his career, that highlights his limitations as a vocalist.

I never liked the Thin White Duke persona but I don't think I was supposed to. Now that I read the inspiration of fascist mythology and the occult in his work I understand my visceral dislike of the album in spite of my also being able to recognize it's musical merits. Mysticism and a pile of coke big enough to kill an elephant just might not be a great combination after all. Who knew? I just thought it was the krautrock influence that put me off. Sometimes I understand things that I don't actually understand.

Tykkään David äänestä, mutta se olikin ainoa mikä kantoi tätä levyä.

TVC15 was honestly the first David Bowie song I ever really liked when I was younger. I like Golden Years quite a bit, and I dig the title track (even though 10 minutes was pushing it). The other three songs? Eh. Stay has one of the funkiest openings ever, only to be undone once the singing starts. (Is this where I admit that I really dislike Bowie's voice sometimes?) Overall, I don't mind about half the album, so 3 stars.

The opening track almost made me abandon this album (I actually stopped 6 mins in and left it overnight because I simply did not have the patience for a 10 minute song). The rest of the album is great!

fourth david bowie album and I think we’re still yet to encounter a song that I know. how many still to come? I will guess 8. tvc15 was my favourite and quite liked from around 5 minutes on in the title track. I can for sure appreciate the range across all of these albums

Best Bowie so far for me !! Quite pleasant listen The song Stay is on it

Not really my kind of thing, but it's alright. Maybe it would grow on me with multiple listens.

i don’t fare well with songs this length usually but it’s bowie so it’s amazing

Slow rise into the album in "Station to Station" that builds as you progress and prepares you for the rest of the album. My favourite song on the album is "Golden Years", the buzzy guitars with the punchy drums brings a nice vibe to the song with David Bowie almost ethereal voice. The songs do seem to get a bit repetitive with the same sound across the album.

I wasn't really feeling this one. It's interesting enough but kind of boring for me.

A fine album with a bit more of an edge to bowie. I'm unfamiliar with most of these songs besides "Golden Years". Unfortunately I rest saying this might be the weakest Bowie album on this list. Not a bad album but the others really left an impact on me musically. This one just kind of came and went as quickly as it could. I wish I had more to say.

didnt do it for me, crazy to think this guy has 9 albums in this.... overrated (?)

Pretty good

Ummm...it was a Bowie album with some songs on it.

I really liked Bowies earlier albums but this one just doesn't do anything for me. golden years is quite catchy, but the rest is just OK.

no jest ok

Listening session: june 19th, while reading in Sicily Listened to before: no Thoughts: still not a Bowie fan, but this album was more enjoyable than his more recent work that I’ve had to listen on here Favourite tracks: Golden Years & Word on a Wing

I run hot and cold on Bowie. Sometimes he’s irresistible/immortal, sometimes he’s way too far up his own ass. This album is about evenly spilt between the two. He’s an experimental artist, so it’s natural that not everything sticks. It’s pretty apparent Bowie doesn’t worry too much about what I think, so I’ll be grateful for the many many songs that stay with me.

I respect Bowie as a talented and influential artist, but none of these songs really called to me. I'm familiar with "Golden Years" and "TVC 15" just from general exposure, but even those aren't among his best songs for my taste. I dig "Stay" for its disco-funk groove, but even it runs too long.

Personalmente non mi ha fatto impazzire, riconosco che comunque le canzoni non sono male

3.5 rounded down but close to a 4, really enjoyed the last two songs

didnt like start tbh then got funky i like word on a wing everything else mid tbh

It was okay, I could listen to it without skipping. However, for me, the genre mix of funk, art rock and piano rock didn't work. Also I thought the sound lacked power, it felt somehow weak the whole time. And it doesn't help that I don't really like Bowie's voice. Near the end it got better with "Stay" and "Wild Is the Wind". 2.5/5 - okay-ish

Güzel albüm ama introsu pek beni sarmadı. Favori şarkım: Stay

This list is made for old people

Ei parasta mutta silti ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Very difficult to rate. I listened to it twice but just didn’t love it.

Surprisingly listenable for a Bowie album maybe because it was so short.

Station to Station - 2.5/5 Golden Years - 4/5 Word on a Wing - 3/5 TVC15 - 3.5/5 Stay - 3/5 Wild Is the Wind - 2.5/5

A Knight's Tale! Some good bass playing on this album;

It's a fine album. Nothing crazy and very short.

A David Bowie album on this list that I don't hate! I found this one much more fun to listen to. Hauntingly beautiful voice. Strangely enough, because I listened to this I spent the rest of the day listening to Wolf Parade, a band I got into when I was younger and haven't revisited recently. I honestly want to bump this up a star just for that.

It's my favourite bowie album i've heard so far, the title track is a brilliant song but there's a few forgettable tunes here and there...i liked word on a wing and TVC515 a lot though.

Cocaine is a hell of a drum

This is the first David Bowie album I’ve ever listened to in total. I am very familiar with his hits, several of which I count among my favorite songs. For some reason though, I’ve never delved into Bowieland. Now that I have, I am intrigued. I generally liked the album, but didn’t find it to be as impactful as I thought I would. His vocals are haunting and pure, the musicianship and melodies are great, but I didn’t feel wowed in any way. I guess I just didn’t really connect with the album very well. I’m curious to hear more of his offerings as it seems I’ll have eight more opportunities to solidify my feelings on Mr. Bowie throughout this journey.

No fav song

Weird electro-disco funk robo-music? I don't know--some amazing songs, but then the usual few Bowie experiments. Not super inviting but artistically interesting

Some loveliness and some great songs here, along with a few that are not so memorable.

Vintage David Bowie, which means I liked some of it pretty well and then was underwhelmed by other parts overall a decent listen

Not my favorite Bowie album. There was a few fluffers but some decent songs.

Not a big Bowie fan and this one hasn't really changed my stance. Some decent songs but not very memorable. 2.5/5.

Not my fave, thinking maybe I’m not a Bowie fan after all i just love ziggy stardust?

3.5 stars

There are some good hits on this one.

so far i like it, will be adding a few to my library. tvc15 is fav as of now.

Not me fave, but still Bowie

I liked some of the songs but you can definitely tell that Bowie was on drugs. I would listen again to some of the songs to see if it will grow on me

Not one of my regular go tos but nice to let her out for a spin

Not my favorite Bowie album but good. 3.5

Golden years is obviously great - the rest is standard Bowie - perfectly enjoyable but not something I would rush to listen to again.

161. nice

I do not know a lot of David Bowie, I always liked the hits but other than that I never listened to much, or any for that matter, of his other music. Looking at this album, only 6 tracks that are all pretty lengthy, I am not sure what to expect but I have an open mind and am willing to give it a shot. Its a slow start for sure, the opening track being over 10 minutes. David Bowie definitely has a signature "Bravado" about him, at times can seem pretentious. I can see why people like him, but for me the over the top vocals just don't hit me like other vocalists. Best way I can explain it is as if I was singing the song at karaoke but in a sarcastic/fake/funny way, the type of singing where you'd say "okay stop messing around and sing for real". I kind of enjoyed the album, but really with only 6 tracks I probably won't be returning to this one anytime soon, hopefully the other Bowie albums coming up will change my mind about him because this one didn't. 3/5

This got better as it progressed, the last few songs were great.

Not massively interested in this and I won't be revisiting, but overall it's not too bad

Good, but not much stuck on my first (too inattentive) listen

I enjoy Bowie, but I'm one of those who mostly listens to the hits and best-of albums . This one was a good listen only 38 minutes so gave another listen straight after the first play. I'll probably keep myself focused on the hit songs.

Highlight: Golden Years. In a nutshell: "I'm ready to shake the scheme of things." A shake up indeed. It's another transitional album for Bowie - the bookend of the plastic soul era and the prelude to the famous Berlin Trilogy (Low, "Heroes", Lodger). Snaps to the backing band: a fucking powerhouse!!! Overall: 6/10

Not his best album, in my opinion.

Favorite tracks: Golden Years Wild is the Wind

Album is ok. Not my cup of tea, but worth a listen

not his best but a strong album and a great title track

Very enjoyable

Nunca había escuchado una canción tan larga. Pero me pareció un álbum original aunque corto. Igual es un gran artista, pero este álbum no fue de mi agrado en su totalidad.

I haven't heard this kind of sound or music before but I particularly like the last one because it is a sample of my queen, Nina Simone.

lo mejor que he escuchado de bowie, me gustó el flow pero igual el se me hace como aburrido, no es mala música solo no la escucharía. le daría más que al anterior pero calificar de 1 a 5 no da mucha libertad

fun IDk

A funky, groovy Bowie album. Very short, more laid-back, less theatrical or dramatic than his other songs I've heard. I think half of the songs don't really hit, but the other half are a good mix of easy going funk and that Bowie theatricality that i love. It's overall very short and light as an album
