Reviews (page 13 of 13)
The song "Disorder" i really loved (its also the song that everyone knows), but the rest didn't catch me at all. I really wanted to like the album, because its such an influencual album for the time it was released in .. The total abundance of melody in the voice of Terry Mason and his plump singing really bothered me troughout my lisiening experiance. It got so bad that i wanted to skip hole songs. Beeing a drumer myself i really didnt understand why he just sticked to drums, because the drumming does suffer from him singing. Maybe thats the hole thing playing punk. I can totally understand that it may be fun to play that way, but listing to it while siting on a chair is just not. Maybe it still needs time to grow onto me, i will defenitly relisten in the future and maybe then i will be enlighend. Cheers
Parecidos a The Cure
I understand the impact and acclaim this album have achieved, but the detached roboticism of the delivery doesn't connect with me.
It had moments but was often tuneless.
2+
meer van verwacht, niet zo wauw
Opens with shit reverb drums. Bad sign. Lou/Bowie influenced talk-singing. Tyler probably thinks this is good. 2nd song ok Pretty amateur musicians, but I guess that's their thing Ian Curtis cult worship is odd...much like Syd. New dawn fades sounds like something Oh good now we've got layers of echo on the vocals
Highlights for me were Insight (laser guns!), she’s lost control, and wilderness. Overall the album gets a solid 2.
Not for me.
Okay so realistically, this should be a five star album for me. But I don't know why but this album just annoys the crap out of me. I've gave this album at least a half a dozen listens the past year and every time I thought to myself "why do I not like this?" I love a lot of post-punk artists and albums but this one specifically just does not do it for me. I wish I could go more into detail on why but honestly I don't even know.
Meh
So dull.
This was surprisingly boring
Goth rock is not for me
Ok album not sure i agree with it being on the best albums ever.
From the UK, what a surprise. I mean I expected this to be here somewhere but fuuuuck. Album cover is great, one of those really iconic artworks. Music is bog new wave as you'd expect from the UK in the late 70s. Having heard a few songs from this before I expected the whole thing to be a bit more ... musical. Lots of kinda proto-goth crap going on here. 2/5.
Maybe the greatest album artwork. If only the songs matched. I’ve wanted to like this album for years but just can’t get there. Perhaps the context of the release is essential to understanding why this is such a standout.
Meh
Wow it's the album that's on the t-shirt that all the people who are "really into music" wore in college. If I had known that that t-shirt represented such a lame ass band I would have treated it like the obvious "kick me" sign it was. Yet another post punk album for the author to pop a boner to. PEOPLE JUST STARTING THIS JOURNEY BEWARE: THIS LIST IS 500+ POST PUNK ALBUMS. Honestly this deserves closer to 1 star, but it's not as bad as U2 so it gets 2.
i honestly don’t completely remember how they sounded and i just listened to them which maybe proves something.. i didn’t hate it but i also didn’t enjoy it
It was ok I guess, not really my thing
This sucked. Annoyingly bad singing, forgettable album. 4/10.
I don't get the appeal of Joy Division. I know they were trend setters, but nothing much stands out at all.
Joy Division are mostly joyless and Unknown Pleasures has scant few pleasures at the end of the day. Just never been for me; this isn't bad but it's fucking boring, 2/5.
I'm sure I'm not the first asshole to point out that this band is ironically named, but...it is. You can't just put the word "joy" in your name and then fart into a microphone and call it a day. Best track: I'm not sure. I kept trying to pay attention but it was just. so. boring
Super boring and mopey.
Nope. An album that has been deemed classic, but I just don't enjoy it at all. See also: The Doors.
Ian Curtis sounds a little bit like Jim Morrison. I also felt a little Editors vibe. However the songs didn't feel too exciting and a little slow.
Sounds like what Alice Cooper looks like.
Know it's a cult album, but it didn't really stand out for me.
Not really my thing.... could never see the attraction.
This is okay, but it didn't do much for me. It's pretty run-of-the-mill late-70s punk as far as I can tell. I dug a few of the riffs and melodies, but overall I found it hard to figure out what makes it special.
Very sparse not really my thing so idk
the smiths are better
We’ve been through that already: whether you’re pushing New Order or Joy Division (this is the 4th of those I’m getting here), the music is still annoying. P.S. The awful sound doesn’t improve the experience, either.
Coñazo. Rock extraño
Overall low key album but nothing jumped out at me or grabbed my attention. Songs were repetitive but enjoyable.
piosenki, które mi się podobały - disorder
rätt tråkigt album egentligen
This is a cult classic, but is a bit of weak nonplus runes… had to be there I guess
Okay, I know this is going to cost me any goth cred I may have had in the past, but Joy Division is true to its name; listening to this album divided me from joy. It's clear to me that pleasure is unknown to them, and someone needs to tell them that picking a single phrase and repeating it over and over again does not a good song make.
The singer sounds like Fred Schneider with a lobotomy. Catchy new wave/pop style with some punk undertones. Didn't do much for me.
This one isn't really my style, but I used it as ambient working music and also didn't hear many of the lyrics, which is good because I've heard they're depressing.
His voice sucks
I always judge albums by when they are minted. maybe i want some way to preview what htey will sound like.
Había oido muchos comentarios de esta banda... Ohhh desepcion.
It's a shame that the tight bass and drum-licks on Unknown Pleasure are accomodated by some of the most bleak and hopeless music I have ever heard. Beyond the depression and angst, there is very little variety or enjoyment to be found here. After having listened to the entire record, there honestly is not a single track that I would consider putting on again. This is not it, this is a 2/5.
Overrated.
Upbeat keyboard and bass centric. Simplistic male vocals 8/. Redundant-ish.
Überbewertet, langweilig
Another rock album… was fine, some songs were nice, I hated the last song.
Meh it was not a pleasure
Initial thoughts: the singer's voice is a little monotone and sometimes too soft, but the subdued instrumental backing carries the vocals through. The lyrics and tone are dark and depressing and sometimes too repetitive but I suppose that's the point. Not the kind of music I enjoy listening to most of the time, but it has its place. It just doesn't feel special in any real way; like there's nothing groundbreaking there.
I’m not into that.
Couldn't really get into it. Some of the songs were okay but a lot of it was just too slow for my taste. I could maybe listen to it if i was sad in the middle of winter. XD
I don't like it. The production value sucks ass. The drumming is incessant. The vocalist is 5/10, but he needs a better lyricist. These lyrics vacillate between juvenile and unintelligible due to the lofi production. Sometimes my head is bobbing alone, but after listening to the album twice I still couldn't name a song that really hooked me. If I could use one word to describe these guys, it would be "flat." I'm listening to "I remember nothing" and I'm hearing these sad lyrics but no emotion. No tears or heart whatsoever. Just bored flat affect. I remember nothing is a fitting end to this album because I won't remember anything from the album.
Heaven knows I'm miserable now
Wieso heißt es: Let's dance to Joy Devision? Dazu kann man gar nicht tanzen...
Didn’t even have love will tear us apart on it. Massively overrated.
I hated this album the first time I heard it, and I still hate it now. Generic sparse guitar with vocals that feel so lazy it's almost ironic.
I was kinda excited to listen to this because I've seen this album cover a million god damn times (maybe the most reused album art ever?) but it was kinda a big meh for me and it all kinda blended together, and then when I payed closer attention I asked myself wtf is going on with the melody
Hmmmmmmmmmmm Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Ehmmmmmmm Irgendwie nicht soooo geil; habe merkwürdige DANZIG Assoziationen bei „Day of the Lords“ Verstehe nun aber die Obsession der Goths gegenüber dieser Über-Band, über die ich altklug urteilen würde, dass schon 1998 mehr Schülerbands einen besseren ersten Eindruck gemacht hätten. „She‘s lost Control“ ist aber schon megagut. Ambitionierte 1.7
I really tried to listen to this... Got to track 6 but the level of repetitive depressing monotonic lyrics finally go the best of me. It's a no.
Nope
Very whiny and shite
This album was okay. It had very heavy vocals and was very dark at times. I felt like it was all over the place and didn't know what type of genre they were going for
Niet mn ding
Would skip candidate. Liked Disorder until the end All sound like red right hand by nick cave
Hmm, kinda out of tune sometimes, e.g. Candidate
Kinda crappy synth. The vocals were way down in the mix (probably because his voice isn't very good)

Næi
Here's an album that I might've enjoyed more at another time in my life or when I was feeling more jovial in general. Today's listen put it in the 2 star category, as the vibe just didn't jive with me.
Still don't get it. Some interesting production choices, but would benefit from a few more chords and a lot less of Ian Curtis' vocals.
Actually a bit disappointed. For such a legendary album from a band that I like, I would have expected to be blown away. But I could not really get into it.
Eh it was okay. I've seen this mountain album art on like 100 shirts, I don't think they are all fans it just looks cool
Never understood the appeal of these guys
meh
Last interest after the third song.
1/2
As a whole, post punk is a genre I typically struggle with. This is a groundbreaking album in the genre and my main takeaway is “these guys sound really bored.” The monotonous vocals, the meandering songs, and the music that ultimately doesn’t have a whole lot of movement beyond the lead guitars slurred tracking just makes for a fairly uninteresting listen to me. I’ve tried Joy Division and the genre as a whole multiple times and it just really isn’t for me.
Super boring and super bad.
🌀
It was so nothing, I forgot it was on and it chuntered away almost to itself. Couldnt tell you much about it.
Unenjoyable displeasures
I’m definitely not hearing what others are hearing. This was terrible.
I agree that this album is incredibly important. Probably the first ever example of post-punk, and paved the way for so many others in the worlds of new-wave and alternative. Unfortunately, being the genesis of the worst ever genre to happen to music is not a good thing. Holy shit this sucks. Taking the grit out of punk without adding back in the songwriting prowess. The album cover is very cool. Yes, Wikipedia, let's talk more about that. How do people enjoy this so much? Fave tracks: - Day of the Lords - New Dawn Fades - Shadowplay
First time hearing this when in the same room, as brother use to played it all the time when I was a kid. SO only ever heard through a bedroom wall. Hated it then hate it now.

This one did nothing for me. I actively disliked some of the tracks. At one point the bass was playing in the wrong key and I know it was on purpose but it didn't work for me.
I've tried to listen to this one a handful of times. It's super well known and a groundbreaker for alternative rock, but I can't hang with it. The music is dark and minimalist, but the vocals send me running.
Not really my thing. All the songs sounded very similar with little for me to get in to
Not my style
Can't belive it but still not a fan
que es esta porquería
Heard this album before, all of it sucks except for like 2 songs. Everyone treats this group so well and frankly, I don't get it
Didn't care for this, Didn't even finish it
Not a pleasure for me
Snooze fest. You would think this would be beyond exciting with how universally recognized this cover art is, for better or worse.
While I understand how influential this album was, both from a listening and album art perspective; I can't help but feel like it hasn't aged as well as it should have. Part of it stems from being able to find works that have built off this album that are better, another is I just don't find it interesting sound-wise. If I heard this in 1979 I'm sure I would have lost my mind but it really feels dated in 2026.
Not for me
Where will it end? No, really. Vocals are so awful. Am I being pranked? I give up.
God, what a depressing pile of shit
No clue what im missing, but i really, really didnt enjoy listening to this
The shirt album. An album that I believe I tried to listen to once because of the omnipresent nature of this album cover. I’ve seen it everywhere. I’ve seen this record endlessly referenced and frankly, revered. My first thoughts were “why?” And my thoughts now are about the exact same. As I age, I really should stop questioning these things. The masses will enjoy stuff that is either beyond me or beneath me as I navigate life as the alien being I have come to recognize myself as. With that dramatic, overbearing introspection out of the way, I can firmly say that having “missed out” on this from the beginning was a blessing. This sounds like a parody of the new wave that was to come. One solid punk riff on “Interwave” cannot rescue a good album from the boring mechanical failure that is “Unknown Pleasures.” I don’t even think the art is interesting. Looks like something an investment banker has hanging in their palatial Manhattan condo. Yuck. 1 HIGHLIGHTS: Doesn’t the Gap sell this band’s merch?
When to listen: Don't! I've seen the album iconography but had never sat down and listened to this album and I... didn't like it?! To me, it sounded like boring, harsh, industrial noise.

Hated it
Hated this one. Didn’t even make it through 4 songs
Nope, not my jam

Garbage 0 stars
not a single song that i liked… sorry
Not a fan at all. What is with the random laser sound? The songs have a good tune but the way the literal rest of the songs are just aren’t it. The loud, grungy vibe they have just isn’t for me. They also just drag them out for no reason, with pointless repetition of the guitar or guitar and drums, it’s boring and is just dragging it on more and more for no reason. I have no idea what song The Wombats were on about in Let’s Dance To Joy Division, because there is nothing in these songs that are danceable. Okay was hasty in my judgement as I had no yet finished the album, BUT the rest of the songs do sound the same except for the ONE that broke the cycle which was Interzone. Short, actually had a faster beat and good lyrics. Then the last song of the album comes on (I Remember Nothing ) and we go straight back to the same boring, depressing vibe we were in before Interzone. So my opinion and rating of one star still stands. 1 Star 2nd Of January 2026
This was SO boring. The music drones on so much that I can’t imagine Joy Division had any enjoyment making this album, so their band name must be a misnomer. Unknown Pleasures was so one-note I didn’t even know where songs or even the whole album started or began. Yes, this was very gothic and ushered in moody new wave, but lord.
1. Like the music, not a fan of the speak-singing 2. HATE candidate Not for me at all
Not my cup of tea
Repetitive lyrics and melodies that repeated for four minutes per song. Maybe the least exciting singing voice I've heard. - Post Punk, gothic rock, new wave, punk rock
Ah the worst artist
weird, funny business, chaotic , no thank you
Couldnt finish this album. WOULD NOT LISTEN AGAIN. HATED THE VOCALS!
I don't like this style of singing. It is flat sounding.
This is like the half-asleep stream of consciousness stuff you'd start to crank out after jamming for three hours straight with your cover band. Nothing particularly interesting, no semblance of a hook, nothing worth replaying. I guess this album captures that.
Joy Division could have been a good band if Ian Curtis hadn't been there. They make interesting, downbeat music. His voice is monotone, dragging, slow, and annoying. I hate it. He ruins this otherwise good band. (It's even worse on their 2nd album as he took more control.) Yes, the band became New Order after he died, but they went in a very different direction. I dig some depressing music. I love the Cure and Bauhaus and others of their ilk from that time. But this is so poorly done, it's annoying. Its a 1 for me.
sehr lärmig, nöd interessant, si singed schlecht, alles in allem gar nöd geil
I tried to like it
Why is this T-Shirt so popular?!? Boring!
Just stop before I kill myself
Eh not my favorite, I like the instrumental grunge feel in ze background. BUT, all the songs kinda blend together and there’s no bangers. Like zero bangers?? I need at least one banger. And I got zero! Good background listening music tho. A+ for the album art animation on Spotify when listening it.
Man, this album was not for me. I think I’m especially disappointed because I absolutely loved the opening track and was hoping for a similar vibe for the rest of the album. Disorder is upbeat, fun and catchy. The rest of the album is gloomy, repetitive and boring?? The whole time I was just waiting for something to happen. I’m also just not a fan of the bummer mumble/purposely sometimes off-key lead singer. I looked them up and am genuinely shocked these guys are the same guys from New Order???? HUH???
life is too short to let music be this boring yikes the kind of late 70s jam-band adjacent sound that makes me want to throw myself down the stairs just to feel something again
Not for me
i really wanted to like this but it’s jsut not my thing unfortunately
Forgot to rate this! It is a piece of crap! Fuck this album it is garbage I like nothing about it
Sounds like a band which might have a one-hit wonder at some point but really shouldn't be famous for anything else. Maybe it was good at the time but now, nah I'd rather not listen to this. New order is awesome though so I guess things can evolve
Dump
Music to top yourself to.
Nul
BRITISH POST PUNK FORMULA: 1 good song to ride off of, and a discography of nearly unlistenable slop + a talentless singer who kills himself within a couple of years of the bands success + almost no instrumentals, just lo-fi synths + have the above mentioned talentless singer ramble on about how he's sad or some shit constantly, but make sure it's not interesting to listen to in the slightest + pay an artist to do his best copyright-free imitation of Dark Side of The Moon for the album cover = become revered in history as one of the greatest post punk bands ever It's a shame I'm not judging this thing off its phenomenal album cover. Despite my joke above it's genuinely a 10/10 cover. It's a shame the music held within in this beautiful cover just fucking sucks man. This album is like a concept album of how much their singer can take the piss to get progressively worse and worse in each song until I decide to turn this off. Disorder and Candidate are such dogshit songs. Ian Curtis could never sing, and just rambles on in his weird British accent. The "Feeling! Feeling! Feeling!" part is especially jading. The only highlight on Disorder is the bassist, Candidate unfortunately has no redeeming qualities. I genuinely can't even really write a review for anything else on here. With the exception of Shadowplay, It's just an intro of an electric guitar, then some synths and a bassist (who is admittedly good) with our boy Ian rambling about some shit nobody cares about in his horrible voice; at least he's trying! Every song feels almost exactly the same. Joy Division were an overrated horrible band running off one good song (Love Will Tear Us Apart) until their lead singer cheated on his missus and did something unsavoury to himself resulting in his departure from the mortal plane - and I think the rest of the band knew how shit they were as well considering how quick they moved on without him. This is literally just The Smiths for people who love watching paint dry. This is an unbiased review because also hate The Smiths, but I do love sniffing paint.
So bad.
Just endless notes doing nothing, going nowhere. Who enjoys this endless drone of darkness.
its good i’d say 3/10 its good for summer but his voice also gives a halloween vibe
I can hear how innovative this music would be in the disco/classic rock era. But Ian's vocals hold no joy for me. 1.5/5
Back to back post-punk records for me. Ugh. 1 star "Interzone" was the most traditional punk song on the album, and will make the playlist.
I immediately recognized the iconic album art and was interested to know what this album was all about. I was happy to learn that I wasn't missing anything important or even interesting.
Cultural landmark maybe. I can’t with his voice. It’s musically so boring to me.
Maybe I’m being harsh with the 1 but this really made zero impact on me. I’ve heard good things about Joy Division so I was waiting for something on the album to catch my attention, but nothing did. Perhaps I’ll revisit this and think I’m an idiot but for now unimpressive.
Dreary post-punk neo Indie borefest. I was palpably relieved when each song ended
Woe is me, I've been pitifully reunited with Joy Division. I would have loved them if not for Ian Curtis's insufferable voice (may he rest in peace). The music is great, the lyrics hit, but the melody and vocals RUIN THIS. What the hell is up with the vocal mastering in "Insight" ? I'm no audio engineer but that was a listen for sore ears. I can't finish listening to this. Over an hour long and bound to mess up the algorithm with more recommendations by this group.
ok but like who hurt you??? eerie dissonance and creepy creative elements i somewhat respect but also feels like they just ran out of ideas at certain points? i kinda just wanted each song to be over. apparently that was the point? felt nothing like “love will tear us apart” the only song by them i actually enjoy
Joy Division, can't get in to them. Understand why others like them, but I am not so enthused.
Boring a depressing
142/1089 - Damn it. I just shit-talked Joy Division in my previous review. At least I get the worst album on the list (so far) early on in the project. It isn't good when the second song's hook "when will it end" is making me think "when will the album end?" I don't mean to be a snarky Christgau-esque blowhard so I should explain what I find fundamentally wrong with the music, and I just need to use "Disorder": the first drumbeat was off-time (and many more), then the sloppy guitars came in with stupid wooshes caked in reverb and finally Curtis's monotonous yet somehow pitchy vocals slurring about. Even if the instrumentalists were good at keeping time and making intriguing parts, Curtis's voice would drop this to a 0 star. I read some positive reviews which talk about the dark and gloomy atmosphere, and I should add I don't mind that Unknown Pleasures is dark and gloomy, I mind that it's shitty. The album art is cool I guess but it kind of proves the "don't judge a book by a cover" idiom.
scary. 1
Don't like.
Fuck rating albums. Just let me listen.
I did not like at all, vocals are off key and the songs are not even remotely interesting
I’m not a big Joy Division fan. Liked the first song but they are not really my style of music.
Dire. Thought it was going to be crap and it didn't disappoint.
Just not my cup of tea. Maybe not a bad album altogether but certainly not something I would play for myself, nor would I recommend it to a friend.
Shit.
No thanks, I'm depressed enough already as it is. And no wonder Ian Curtis killed himself, making such music.
Not my thing
Just no
I did not like a single song on this album. I don't think I will remember any. At least I know I don't like anything from Joy Division except Love Will Tear Us Apart.
I have somehow managed to never listen to this before today. I haven't missed much. Boring, or rather non existent melodies, no variances in energy, I just couldn't get myself to even go through all the songs completely.
I can't stand bellowing masquerading as singing
I despise this late 70s/early 80s moody synth pop. Stuff like this and Depeche mode can just get in the BIN. Honestly who actually likes this kind of music, it's soulless, boring, drab, nothing music. Crap!
Me causou tédio
Could use a little more reverb…
No 1
I feel no joy when I listen to this album
A boring and less enjoyable British version of the Talking Heads? No thanks. This is just bizarre, moody, and so unenjoyable. 2.5/10 (1.25/5)
Just meh, no real comments.
Not my thing. Sloppy guitar, awful singing. I get they were ahead of their time or whatever and a very influential band but I just don’t enjoy listening to this. I’m not a lyrics person. Give me a good melody over lyrics 10/10 times and this album had 0 good melodies. Probably won’t ever listen to joy division again. Album cover is iconic though. 1.3/5 so gotta round down to 1 star ⭐️ 👎🏻
I really did not vibe with this.
Couldn’t even get through it. Not my kind of music. Great drums however that was the only thing I enjoyed about it.
I’m waiting for something good to happen here, but losing what little confidence I have. This is really simplistic shit. Simple guitar, simple base, simple drum. And the synth? I feel like Curtis couldn’t find any adults to back his weird lyrics and creep vibe, so he hit up the local middle school, promising sex and drugs if they’d join his band. There was so much better music coming out around 1980, MY era, and these twits road their coats and made us look like fools. Fuckers! This is cringe.
fuck The Wombats for making me believe you could dance to Joy Division. This was a hot pile of dookie spice and I know all these hoes walking around with Joy Division band tees have never heard a real song from this album bc if they did they’d never rep this trash band. They’re lucky to get 1 star from me.
Not into this style of music apparently
I hated their other album in this project. I hated this one a little less. Too often, they don't care to stay in key with each other, and I hate it.
Miserable and morbid but I’ve heard worse albums. It’s been a long time since I’ve heard joy division and I hope it’s a while before I listen to them again. Respect to anyone who can listen to them regularly and will sit through an album of theirs through choice. It started off okay but after a couple of tracks I just wanted it to end, which is what I imagine a lot of their listeners are thinking but not necessarily about the album or song. The best thing I can say about this album is that it was quite short, thankfully. I guess I’ll never know the pleasures of liking this band
Shadowplay is okay but really this album just sucks.
buns
Alternative music. Weird.
I’ve always seen this shirts. cool shirts. Terrible album.
It was meh.
The defacto hipster T-shirt! The worst parts of Radiohead combined with the worst parts of Interpol. Fav Track: Disorder
About as bleak as music can get. Have seen other reviews that admire the bare, industrial sound of the album but personally it's not for me. I really disliked the sparse nature of the production, the vocals and incessant sound effects. Day of the Lords and Interzone the pick of the tracks. I found Candidate, She's Lost Control, Wilderness and I remember nothing almost unlistenable. I definitely preferred the slightly 'riff-ier' stuff. Really disliked the album, completely not to my taste. Nothing even slightly memorable and won't be revisiting. 3/10.
Wow. I've heard of this group and album before and I thought I'd heard good things, but this was just kinda... bad. The signing on Insight but actually super bad and amateurish. Some parts of the melody were painfully flat and just bad, bad, bad. The rest of the album was alright, but nothing really noteworthy, just kinda meh synthpop. One star.
I didn’t like a single song. If I could do 0 Stars I would.
Didn't do anything for me at all. Not musically interesting, and the singing didn't appeal to me
Not my kind of music, im sure other people enjoy it tho!
Love Will Tear Us Apart = 5 still doesn't save this album from being a 1 (sorry)
Sad noise.
I do not like Joy Division. I know they are foundational, but so, so many other bands who were influenced by them I have more affinity for. They just sound the same every song, like one big drone.
Not a big fan of this sound at all - never really liked it
Ian Curtis was preventing us from getting New Order. Dreary, sludgy bullshit that certain people think you have to like because it's Joy Division. Fucking shit.
Basically every track is either boring or unlistenable. The guitar riffs are almost cool enough to award 2 stars. Almost. The monotone, off key singing is just unbearable to me. Also, I don't appreciate starting a song with 30 seconds of silence.
I had the same reaction as when I first heard this in the late '80s: Is this a joke?
1979 Goth Rock. Monotone echo-type lead vocals. I tried.
Bei mir hat es nicht gezündet. Langweiliger elektronischer Musikstil ohne spritzige Ideen. Schade
My housemate at uni loved Joy Division and I wouldn't let him play it on my hifi. I was in two minds about listening to this and wondered whether I would realise I had been missing out on something for the last 35 years. I wasn't; this album is as bad as I thought it was back in the 80s. I've no idea why Joy Division are held in such high regard, maybe it is a live band thing. I'll try listening to this in 35 years time to see if I've changed my mind but sincerely doubt it.
God these guys are awful
When will THIS end
I am convinced the people who wear the shirts don’t listen to this band because I hate to say this but it was so bad.
I feel like I've heard this same album before, but it's like a crap version of Depeche Mode.
boring
I've tried and tried so many times over with this album, and I just can't stand it. I've stated before my displeasure (heh) with Joy Division, and as much as I hoped that would change after my (easily) 5th listen, I'm convinced the only reason this album is popular is because of the t-shirts.
Its crazy that with how much I love New Order I feel the opposite way for Joy Division.
Atrocious... Will never listen to again. I want to scrub this boring depressing repetitive nonsense from my memory banks... I would give it fewer than 1 star if I could.
Meh. Not my thing.
Man, fuck this spooky-ass, haunted house, Count Chocula, doom and gloom, oggedy boogedy, creepy crawly, monster mash bullshit and the wolfman it rode in on. Fucking laser beam solos on “Insight”. This sucks. Go smoke cigarettes in a graveyard you techno-goth nerds. 🧛+🤖=💩
really like the instrumentals, hate the vocals. feels weird and sad like i took drugs for the first time and now im paranoid
It felt like I was listening to this album for like three days straight, thought it would never end. 2/10
this was my first time hearing this artists. i wasn't really vibing with the sound BUT i didn't realize the Killers' song "Shadowplay" was original a Joy Division song...so that was a fun discovery
:(
Hard pass. I feel like this is 1) the music playing in every Hot Topic and/or 2) the music Tim played in high school.
No thank you.
Did not like this album - did not make it past song 3
Too empty for me. And can't stand the voice.
Sorry…really did not like.
Okay, this album did nothing for me and I grew up in that era.
altern. Rock, 1979
Sounded like the smiths but worse. 1/10
1. dizorder - 1.5 2. day of the lordz - 1 3. candidate - 0 4. inzight - 0 5. neuu dauun fadez - 0 6. zhez lozt control - 1 7. zhadouu play - 1.5 8. uuildernezz - 0 9. interzone - 1.5 10. i remember nothing - 1
Never heard of them before. First impression very positive. Got stale real fast
Just not for me. Preferred New Order to the Ian Curtis drudgery.
Badly named band. There's no Joy here! Boring songs, pretty bad singing. Not for me.
Couldn't get into it. 1/5
Uhmmm also not my cup of tea. Kinda liked the sound in the album, but not the lyrics really.
i'm sorry aeri!!!!!! i can't help the inner claire in me!!!! i hate this man's voice! 😭
Really basic
These guys make The Cure sound like Katy Perry. What a snoozefest.
wasn't for me -- not really my style
Really not the kind of music I like, largely didn't stick with me like some of the other albums on this list, and actively made listening a bit of a chore, not any notable songs over the others they all kind of blended the same in my opinion; probably great to those that like the genre but definitely not for me
I respect Joy Division for being a stepping stone to what great music we have today.. With that being said, this music is horrible…
very bad! oh my ears
How much did I dislike this album? It was so much more than lead singers voice. But why go on?
Didn't do anything for me. It was ok, but still didn't enjoy it.
The late 70s UK music scene must've been so depressing if you had the slightest touch of taste, all these post-punk bands are just pure dogshit.
Very strange album, not really to my taste. I don't really get it
I really wanted to be into this but I think ultimately not for me
The tracks are as bland as the singers voice and delivery.
Not for me.
I wanna rate it 0. Fuck this piece of crap of a band.
El post punk no es lo mío.
Just kinda funky and weird
Poor Ian Curtis... 23 years old!
The "unknown pleasure" was not listening to this album. What the vocalist lacks in skill he does not make up for in passion. I'd say he needs a bucket to carry the tune but buckets aren't good at carrying keys. Instrumentals are fine but I can hear the same, similar, or (usually) better sound from any garage band or subway station one man band busker
The best thing happened to this band was eventually becoming New Order
Shit
Joy division- They have a thing with the minimal guitar and bass parts. They kind of compliment eachother well but also rub with tension too. I could hear their influence on frusciante and flea. I really didn’t like the vocals. The melodys are not good, the tone is bad, and he’s out of tune a lot too. Disorder- wow those are some bold note choices in the bass, actually my favorite part of the song perfect example of “wrong but strong” Didn’t like the next two songs at all Insight-cool synth toms Shadow play- vocals sound like David Byrne trying to sing like Jim Morrison in the worst way Wilderness- cool bassline and intro. I like the reverb and delay on the drums I remember nothing- I like the ominous vibe and textures of the instrumental and sound effects but the vocals are soooo out of tune. 1.5
Candidate and I remember nothing are possibly the worst vocal performances in recorded history. Day of the lords reminds me of Alvin’s sludgefest. I hated this record. 1.1
Joy divided by zero. Horrendous, I think there's one track on there that I could classify as a song.
I guess it's really just not my jam. Non of the songs really jumped out at me and the whole album kinda just felt like a boring drone
Where's the Joy? This album was pretty depressing.
Jesus christ this was bad. One of those bands you assume have bare good tunes but this was 10 songs of absolute dreary dog poo. Potentially the crappest album so far no 🧢
Boring, droning, morose dross. I could scrap to 2 stars if it wasn’t so iconic. Knocked down to 1 start by the Primark T-shirts.
Why is this on here, this was such a boring album, the sounds were drab, the pace of the music left me wanting more. Boo do better.
All the songs sound the same🤷♀️
Niet mijn ding.
I can't quite gather my thoughts enough after listening to this to properly articulate my dislike it's like my melon got dropped on a sidewalk... just unpleasant.
I tried to put aside my highly personal distaste for Joy Division, but my review is still incredibly biased. It was boring as hell. “She’d Lost Control” wasn’t the worst.
ZsasttDd des@Ezdswb
Not my style
1,5. Monotonisempaa soundia saa hakea. Taattua masennusta alusta loppuun.
Not my thing I’m afraid
Trash can music
Dull
Too gay, gayer than culture club.
Really bad. Disorder was the best song on the album and it was at best a 4/10.
Blehhhh
I didn’t like this at all. Vocals were uninspired and for an era of classic rock their sound was woefully lacking.
did not like
Meh
