Iconic, but I still struggle with Radiohead sometimes

This is the best one. Decided.

OK Computer is one of the all time greats! I'm not heavily into Radiohead, I struggle with most of their experimental stuff, I preferred their earlier stuff, but with OK Computer - as an album, it seemed to capture me at the right point in time. Re-listening to the album today, sat down with headphones on, totally uninterrupted. I got to appreciate all the extra details, the layering, the production - it's a crazy equal mix of bleakness and inspiration, quite a journey.

I think this is my third or fourth Radiohead album in fifty days. This is supposedly one of people's favorites. #1 - Ah yes, now I remember. Sublime instrumentals overlayed with UGUUGHHs and YEAAASHSSs and EEEEEEEHs from Thom Yorke. Is it really a Radiohead album without him though? #2 - I'm biased to this song because I've heard it before (not the entire album besides really this one and Karma Police). It's on my playlist so, yes, I like it. ★ #3 - Decent. It feels relatively hopeful compared to some of the other songs by them. #4 - Honestly, not sure how to describe it. Mournful basically. #5 - Good stuff. Depressing and crushing. #6 - Another one of my favorites from this album (biased) that I feel holds up. And yes, it's still on my playlist. ★ #7 - Haunting interlude to the second part of the album. #8 - Compared to the rest of the album so far, this is kind of the odd beast out when it comes to sound. Not terrible and the lyrics are pretty good. On it's own, not so much, but listened to the interlude to here is such a shift. #9 - And now I'm being drug back down to the Radiohead you know and love. Title is pretty appropriate and, again, haunting. #10 - I'm a fan of it. For me, definitely a song about growing up and finding contentment. #11/#12 - The rest of the songs kind of blurred together for me at this point (it's only two, but still). I feel like all the heavy hitters were played earlier. Doesn't mean they are bad tracks, I just think they failed to stand out compared to the rest of the album. I can't give this a (fairly) unbiased, first time listen to this album since I've heard bits of this album before. Honestly, if you're going to be listening to Radiohead, this is the album. Kid A wasn't bad, but this surpasses it. Phenomenal album, 5/5.

Much better than I remembered. Never been a fan of Yorke's voice, but works well here and this was when Radiohead were good before they started putting out all the weird shit later on.

I was aware of something called paranoid android, be it track, album or band I didn't know. But I wanted to listen to it. When I saw it on this I was really interested. Musically this album was quite interesting and I enjoyed it. Unfortunately it was the vocals that really spoilt it. His voice was just so depressing not necessarily the lyrics, but the tone of his voice I found incredibly depressing. Interestingly enough you tube followed it it with Franz Ferdinand, and I found it to be much improved from when I listened to it at the beginning of the week. So much so that I relistened to the album, and would have scored it as a solid 3. With this though it is only the music that brings it just about up to a 2. If it didn't have that, it would be a solid 0.

What a masterpiece. Such a game-changing album. Achingly beautiful in places, it was such a unique and inspiring album. I was already a Radiohead fan when this was released and this one just blew me away with its creativity and fresh sound from the start. By the time you’re into ‘Paranoid Android’ you realise that this is different level. A onslaught on the senses! Some of the softer moments and harmonies are just incredible (‘Subterranean Homesick Alien’, ‘Exit Music’, ‘Let Down’, ‘No Surprises’), but ‘Lucky’ is still one of my favourite all time tracks. 26 years old, but still one of my ‘go to’ albums, and in the conversation for the best album of all time ever.

According to the NME, the 2nd best album of 1997, which they got right! However this has probably overshadowed their original no 1 of the year choice ever since. It is a straight up mid 5, even before I listen to it today. Only one weak track which is 'Fitter Hapoier' and also written in tiny letters on the track listing on the record. I often wonder why that is? Did they think it was crap too? Apart from that, the album is virtually flawless in its sometimes beautiful but mostly melancholy way. Such great experimentalism going on with these songs, the guitar playing is abstract and a shining example of how to get the most out of a guitar. Very few guitarists are as good as Jonny Greenwood, bringing raw emotions of angst and madness into their playing. Along with Yorke's vocal delivery, builds a fucked up and exhilarating ride into the depths of their souls. Sorry to sound wanky, but it is a classic which as far as I'm aware, they never topped and have I listened to a Radiohead album since this one? Not properly, as they never got close to perfection as this again.

I really just don't get Radiohead.

"Airbag" is already a banger damn. "Paranoid Android" is such a gem. I love it. The guitar progression is so heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. "Subterranean Homesick Alien" has amazing whammy + wah wah usage on the guitar. "Karma police" is a CLASSIC. Still a big fan of course. Legendary song. The bass on this song is insane btw. "No surprises" is also one of my favorite. I just love Radiohead. They are so creative, rock, melancolic and it that nostalgia that so many other people are feeling as well. "Electioneering" was a trip but I liked it. Jonny Greenwood is a genius A milestone imo. Love this album

Always a bit similar to Muse's slower tracks, but with a few totally original songs thrown in.

Yuuuuck. Let this be the last shitty Radiohead album that I need to put up with. Pretentious poseur douchebags.

Masterpiece

I will never forget listening to Ok Computer for the first time. It was like music from the future. No hyperbole, it changed my life. It changed the way I listened to music. It changed what I believed was possible. 25+ years later and I’m still in awe every time I listen to it. The moment Thom’s voice splits in Let Down, the chaotic screaming climax to Climbing Up The Walls, We are one in everlasting peace …. those moments still give me goosebumps every time. I could write one of those thousands of words reviews you see on here, but it’s all been said already. There are masterpieces and then there is Ok Computer 10/10

Strange and unique. Liked it a lot!

Wow, I feel like ill probably be alone in my opinion on this one. So I never listened to Radiohead before, but hear how important they are. I don't get it? Probably important at the time, but just kinda generic to me and another sad boy sounding like a sad boy not my thing. I will continue not listening to them moving forward. Giving 2 stars because I know they were influencers (at least thats what I am told)

if you asked me on the spot to categorize radiohead into a genre i couldn't actually tell you what music they play. modern rock, maybe, kinda? in any case, second consecutive album i recognize. track 1, Airbag: the guitar starting at 2m30s in got me transfixed 8/10 track 2, Paranoid Android: the title makes me think of marvin from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and the vibe throughout could be mapped to that of the shown life of marvin from said work. regardless, solid 8.5/10 track 3, Subterranean Homesick Alien: mm, the REVERB on that guitar. good vibes here. 8/10 track 4, Exit Music (For A Film): this could absolutely be the ending music for a movie. 8/10 track 5, Let Down: i could give you a paragraph and a half about how people have been let down by society but uh. yeah just put this song on loop and stare at your ceiling for half an hour. 7.5/10 track 6, Karma Police: a lot of this album seems pretty melancholy, good vibes. 7/10 track 7, Fitter Happier: "more productive. comfortable." while it fits into the feeling that the album gives, it's not a song, so it will be exlcuded from the overall numeric rating track 8, Electioneering: this album came out in 1997 how are all of the songs still applicable to what's going on 25 years later. augh. good guitar in this one though 9/10 track 9, Climbing Up the Walls: it might be obvious by now but i'm not quite familiar with this genre enough to provide good insight into the components of these songs - instrumentation, meter, and especially the lyrics (i have terrible audio processing delay which is why all of these reviews are based on vibes and not lyrical intent), but even still i can feel the angst dripping off of these, and especially this one. i too feel like climbing up the walls. 8/10 track 10, No Surprises: the bells (glockenspiel?) add more than i thought they would to the overall feel. 8/10 track 11, Lucky: i came across a danny phantom fancomic while listening to the album, more specifically this song. reminded me of a good word to describe a lot of these songs. haunting. 9/10 track 12, The Tourist: "slow down." uplifting, if minorly, somewhat raising the listener back up out of the dive made into the album, complete with ding at the end. 8/10 overall: 8/10 -> 4/5. i imagine that if i looked up the album, there would be something on how its a commentary about life, and all of the ways people feel stuck or trapped. i welcome listeners (and readers, if you find yourself the type of person to read these reviews) to do that research if you find yourself yearning for it.

Solid album. I debated between 3/5 or 4/5. It honestly deserves the 4 from how important it is culturally, but I doubt I will ever return to the album. Nothing in the album stands out as good or bad to me. I know this was genre redefining in 1997 and must have sounded much different too the ears 25 years ago. From a 2023 perspective it is a little bland and generic. Genuinely suffering from success since this is the blueprint for British rock through the 2000s. I have plenty of respect for the band and the album but it's just not quite my vibe.

Their first great album.

Full of chilling vocals and insightful lyrics, this album is a masterpiece in itself with no flaws at all, in my opinion. Each song takes your mind into another dimension and are also full of hidden meanings. This is the type of music I’d love to listen to before bed. Personal favorites: Subterranean Homesick Alien, Paranoid Android, Let Down.

This album had really good riffs and slower paced songs that are usually what I listen to. Not all the songs are fast enough though, I felt as if I was listening to more beats than the voice, which isn’t always a bad thing. My favorite songs from this album are often played (paranoid android, no surprises, and karma police). The new ones that I haven’t really heard are let down and climbing up the wall.

Radiohead. Thom Yorke. Perfection.

The album "The Bends" was not an easy album to follow up on. This album is paranoid, claustrophobic, and whiny.. in the best possible way. Lyrics are great, they portray a technologically dependent society and future, and a lot of deep messages about things like insanity, capitalism, etc. Album feels to me like the end of 'what was', which is what I believe Radiohead was trying to achieve. I could listen 100 times and still find something new every time. Personal Favorites: Climbing up the Walls, Exit Music, Subterranean Homesick Alien

Airbag: 3/5 Pretty decent, interesting addition of electronic aspects in a mostly "rock" song, but overall just kind of chill Paranoid Android: 5/5 Super diverse sounds throughout, going from chill Muse-ish vibes to harder rock and guitar solos and shit. Loved it Subterranean Homesick Alien: 4/5 More on the psychedelic rock side. Exit Music (For a Film): 5/5 Sounds like music for movie credits, so the title nailed it. Really like the background vocals throughout. Oh hey its that song that I know that I always thought was Muse. Let Down: 4/5 Nice listening music, pretty chill, not a huge standout though Karma Police: 4/5 See above with "Let Down" Fitter Happier: 4/5 Spooky, I hated it and loved it at the same time. Okay Hal 9000 go off. Electioneering: 4/5 Loved the guitar in this one especially. Climbing Up the Walls: 3/5 Enjoyed most of it but near the ending got a bit chaotic for me. Liked it more than I did when it came out, but it's still not my favourite. There is some entertainment value now being able to listen with the words in front of me - some of the lines make no sense at all.

Just not a Radiohead fan. There's the odd track that I like, but re-listening to 'OK Computer' 25-odd years on hasn't changed that view.

What a great album this is. I'm already rating it a 5 because I've heard it many a times before. Paranoid Android is so cool. The progression of the humming part is great. Subterranean Homesick Alien is great too. whoa can't believe I spelled that word right. Subterranean. lol They're all great. Exit Music (For a Film) is amazing! Yep just as amazing as all the other times I've listened to it. 5 stars

Legendary

It's hard to overstate how important of an album this was for me. I was only 7 when it came out, but when I first heard it in middle school it really changed how I thought of rock music. The anxiety and discomfort with the world was palpable. Still an absolute masterpiece. 5/5

The only Radiohead song I knew before this was Creep … so this was a surprising listen. I really enjoyed the feel of this album, even if I could not get much of the lyrics (but also sensed they did not matter greatly). It had a unique and melancholic sound - there were so many times I would start to catch a glimpse of other bands, but then it would disappear. Maybe bc there is just so much going on here? And maybe it’s bc I just listened to the Pink Floyd last week, but also got a bit of that vibe? Very good find for me.

Really great. I was mostly familiar with "weird Radiohead" (Kid A onwards), so the only song I knew off this album coming in was Karma Police. Plenty of great tracks: Paranoid Android, Exit Music, Fitter Happier, Karma Police, Climbing Up the Walls, and Lucky were all very impressive. The album drips with digital paranoia and technological claustrophobia, and felt musically coherent despite utilizing a variety of (well-executed) styles. 9/10. Favorite Track: Climbing up the Walls

Solid album. Always loved electioneering but it's been awhile since I listened to the rest of it.

The ever present issue in rankings list: how much to count the context in which the album was released vs the quality of the content itself? Is it a personal preference or a wholistic ranking? All in all I was glad to revisit this album with fresh eyes. I think the sound is remarkably fresh, always a good sign. Lyrically strong. Not my favourite Radiohead album, but a solid listen. I’ll round it up.

I really love this album. It’s been a while since it felt relevant to my life but I’m sure I’ll revisit it many more times.

Kind of a retro-future vibe. Like in the 1950s everyone thought we'd have flying cars by 2000. I don't think this is the right word but I'm going to call it ephemeral because that is a cool word.

My teenage self rabidly defended early Muse against everyone who said they were a Radiohead knockoff. I take it all back. Can't believe it took me this long to listen front to back. This is a revelation.

So freaking good

Mannnnn I want so badly to understand why so many people say this is one of the greatest albums ever. There are some really beautiful sounds here. That part in Paranoid Android really kicked my ass the first time I heard it. Karma Police is a classic. But something about Thom Yorke's voice bums me out a little bit, it just feels so drab most of the time. I will say that I've enjoyed the album more every time I've heard it (4 times). Despite that, it still just feels like a great album, not an essential one. Maybe you had to be there.

Incredible album, I love the noisy dissonance a lot of the songs evolve into. Definitely recommend playing this through headphones. Losing one star because Thom Yorke's voice gets to me after an hour or so.

Sometimes I get into weird music ruts where I listen to the same few albums for months on end and don’t touch stuff that I told myself I would revisit long long ago. I don’t listen to OK Computer (or Radiohead, for that matter) nearly enough. I was pulled into the soundscape from the first track all the way to the end — no skips. It's one of those rare albums where with each listen you discover a new detail to fall in love with. Tracks that stood out to me upon this relisten: 3 - Subterranean Homesick Alien; 5 - Let Down Would I revisit this album: YES. It’s going onto my heavy rotation.

Confusion about why people like this band *and this album in particular* had been such a cornerstone of my music taste, and I've fully turned my back to it basically thanks to this project. Finally listened to the album as a whole. I’ve only listened to certain songs. Pretty good, gets a tad boring at times.

Need to be in the right mood for it cause it's sometimes a slow walk to get to the riffs you want to hear in each song.

Not my favorite Radiohead album but certainly groundbreaking and a real step up in terms of what this band was capable of doing. Incorporating experimental, electronica, a wide variety of melodies and tempos all under an umbrella of post-futurist alienation and emptiness. Really holds together as a concept and has had a lasting legacy after over a quarter century.

Overrated

I’ve tried to like Radiohead. And I do like a few of their songs. But this album is everything I don’t like about them. Drifty, whiney, self-indulgent.

You can tell an album is a classic when it's just as relevant today as it was 26 years ago. Social anxiety, technology anxiety, performance anxiety, consumerism anxiery, this is as 2023 as it could possibly get. The album that made britpop peak and then die. Revisionnists may be trying to downplay its role in the alternative rock landscape, but I think it is one of its milestones.

Sounds like Muse defined their whole personality on this album. They still never managed to top this.

Undeniably a legendary album, Ok Computer is a game changer for the 90s era and the history of music. It's like space britpop/alt rock that age very, very well. These songs are a perfect example of what mastered songwriting is and how arrangements can boost everything to the top.

mostly thought this was just. OK. jump scared a few times by songs i knew that i didn’t realize were radiohead.

Outstanding selection, i have this album thankfully

Radiohead has more than enough songs I could probably 5 star a double disk greatest hits if that's what this was. However this isn't a greatest hits its OK Computer which while being great I just don't know if I can justify giving this 5 stars even though part of me really wants to. There isn't really a bad song on this album but some them are just a little bit too slow for me and I don't know if "drone on" is the right description but it's the most fitting one I can think of. Theres a ton of different sounds on this album. There's loud sections that just rock out and then there's slow ambient synth sections that you can get lost in. All of it is uniquely Radiohead. I get the love for this album I just don't think it's their magnum opus. Its a 4.5 for me which I'll probably round down to a 4. I'll make up for this blasphemy if Hail to the Thief comes up.

Best album, EVER!

While there are some really good songs on here I just can't get into their general sound which I find too slow and depressing

Not bad. I’m a little over-Radioheaded.

It’s great that an album that sites Bitches Brew as its main influence for song structure and that the EMI executives thought would tank, would platinum all over the world and receive “universal praise” from critics. Personally, I find that the tracks are solid and well written, and the production is sophisticated, but outside of Paranoid Android not too many really make you stop what you’re doing. Now that we’ve been sent (I think) all of the Radio Head albums, In Rainbows is my favourite.

This album is lauded as one of the greatest albums of all time so of course I've been trying to figure out why.... for like forever. I've listened to it dozens of time and I think its good, but do I like it... not really. I do however acknowledge its nuanced, experimental approach and densely layered sound, and I am forever grateful that this album basically started the shift from the hated and retched Brit-pop to a more melancholic, atmospheric alternative rock sound that became more prevalent in the next decade, so I have them to thank for that. But once again, I don't love it.

Leeeeets GOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! 3rd Best Radiohead Album I'D give it 4.5 if I could, F

Oh wow this album is completely and wholly stunning. The distinctively familiar and utterly heart-breaking glockenspiel melody on No Surprises is so nostalgic, it really has a lot of emotion attached to it. The whole album's sound was apparently influenced by the child-like guitar sound on No Surprises and I feel like that song is really the corner-stone of the album. I haven't often listened to this album as a whole story in this way and it was so nice to listen in full and on vinyl also lovely to pay more attention to some tracks I knew less on here. It was also fun to read more on the background and writing of the songs, I didn't know that they wrote what they thought was an amazing track and then came to play it without knowing who would play what instrument, that's so interesting and exciting to me! There's some extremely catchy riffs and I feel like also other just small magical moments throughout the album that I discover something new every time I listen again. BIG love. Not sure really how to review this album so this is my best attempt.

Great to see Radiohead come up again and excuse to listen to this album. I feel I've gone through phases with Radiohead where I listen intensely then not at all for years. I think that's good as then you come back to it and remember what amazing music it is! It's like a fresh perspective and I felt that a lot re listening. Songs on this album have so many key memories. I remember when I was quite young in secondary school I had heard No Surprises but didnt know who it was or how to find it. I thought that initial two chord sequence was so beautiful. Eventually I heard Aaron Spiers playing it on guitar in a music practice room, and I was like OMG what is that song. on my behalf Simon Haddleton very rudely interrupted Aaron to ask what it is was. I did not ask him to and he did it quite rudely like OI! I cringe about that from time to time. Regardless he gave the album and I found the song, then spent ages working it out on piano. Coming back to No Surprises at different points in my life has been key. I really marvelled at it in this listen and read about the song writing. They wrote a song so dark an but then tried to make it sound like a lullaby so the tragicness wasn't so apparent. Kind of tying to how the tragicness of every day life isn't also do immediately apparent. Weirdly I think of Matt Halliday with Paranoid Android, it was his favourite song at sixth form and I think he tried to learn it in music tech a level. Karma Police makes me think of Adam Buxton talking about how seeing them live at The Roundhouse was one of the most moving experiences of his life. He said that when the lyrics "For a minute there I lost myself" he felt that in the performance and that everyone had lost themselves temporarily and how amazing it is that music can do that to you. I could go on. Overall the album is magnificent and idgaf if people think it's depressing, life can be depressing and love how Radiohead articulate that. Side note: Thom Yorke has aged remarkably well

Can't compete with Chole's review so I won't bother. This is a belter. Exit Music (For a film) is such a great song, gives me chills every time, I ruddy bloody love it. This album has got some of the best of the best Radiohead. I remember my dad playing me Fitter Happier when I was quite young being like 'listen to this mad song', I had no clue what was going on.

Kid A is more completely my shit than OK Computer, but this is still undeniably a masterpiece. Radiohead in their prime.

One of the best albums ever made. It's ok not to enjoy it, but what other band competently makes music like what's on OK Computer? This is a singular, essential piece of music history. On here is one of the best 3-song opening salvos of all time, followed later by Electioneering, Climbing Up The Walls, and No Surprises one after the other. Each of those would be the best song on most other albums (and I'm also a huge fan of Lucky). My one complaint about this album is that Exit Music takes a while to get going. That's it. I thought I liked Kid A more going into today's listen, but now I'm not sure; maybe that album is just easier to listen to on repeat. Either way, Radiohead was on some next level shit in this era. 5 stars isn't enough.

I already said a decent amount about this album when I got in rainbows so I’ll try not to repeat myself too much. This album was very important to me in high school and was highly influential in expanding the types of music I listen to. Without discovering this album on my own, I’d probably still be listening to the most basic classic rock that my dad listens to. Paranoid android remains one of my go-to songs whenever I’m angry or sad and I don’t think any finale to a song can ever top exit music. I even used SHA as an alarm for a year in college. Just as in rainbows felt transitional in radioheads discography, this feels to me like the beginning of the switch from alt/grunge rock to electronic music that was fully cemented with kid a. The themes of isolation and alienation run strong throughout every track and the abstract lyrics are both clever and thematic. At this point it’s somewhat cliche to call this one of the best albums of the 90s or list it as a favorite album but it’s cliche for a reason because it really is just that good.

What an album. Absolute classic. Probably Radiohead at their best - the sound (unsurprisingly) is somewhere in between The Bends and Kid A and delivers the best of both worlds. Amazing lyrics and incredible music. A great Album.

I think this is the album that finally made me get Radiohead. There is definitely something special going on with this album but it is so hard to put my finger on what it is. Not my type of music but pretty good

Their best album

Very lovely! I often forget how much I enjoy Radiohead and OK Computer reminded me of that. Sound is adjacent to psychedelic and some bits of progressive rock, which for me means that I have to be in a specific mood to listen to this as I get bored of slower music fairly quickly.

The classic album every Monday streak continues. Another one where it’s just ‘what do I have to say’. One this I do have to say is that ‘Electioneering’ is a full-on banger and I am coming to your house if you say it’s the low point on this album. Other than that, it’s OK Computer. Just read one of the other billion positive reviews.

There is very little that can be said about this album that hasn’t been said before. It is perfect.

Outstanding

Music for people who feel like androids, who seek salvation in airbags and rain, who cry themselves to sleep and awake, who are deluded enough to actually believe their existence and consciousness are nothing more than the sum of complex chemical reactions, who resolve again and again to get off their asses and make something of their lives yet never do. Never fear! Radiohead is hear to sing your woes for you, so that you don't have to think of some way to express yourself yourself. I'm just gonna hold myself and let Radiohead tell me how I feel about myself.

I guess I grew into this album - haven't listened since I was a teen, and found it boring as hell then. Now I think it's pretty sick.

Paranoid Android is my favorite guitar arrangement of all time.

I've heard nothing but absolute praise from this album for years. And I must say I am very surprised it (mostly) lived up to the hype. While there were a few songs that I wasn't super impressed with, 90% of every song here really is *that* good.

Who hasn’t heard this record yet? Yea ofc it’s great a little overrated but still has plenty of incredible tracks just some that don’t hold up as well or some that just don’t fit, and nearing the end there’s a surprisingly high amount of these weaker tracks, all that said easy strong 8 easily one of the most essential art projects in history

Honestly, hard to be objective with this as it's something I've listened to so many times in the past, but I do think it's as close to a perfect album as you can get. Every track deserves its place - yes, even Fitter Happier - the variety of moods and sounds is unparalleled, and I don't think the quality drops anywhere. Even tracks I didn't love at the time have grown on me to the point where they feel like they've always been there. One addition - if you've listened to it so many times you feel bored, try to find the remastered 'OKNOTOK' version from a couple of years ago. The remaster brought out some parts of tracks I hadn't noticed before and gave it a new sheen, and the bsides from that era are also definitely worth a listen.

Side 1 might be better than any ever. Side 2 is pretty good but lucky and tourist never really do it for me. Still an absolute masterpiece and right off a perfect score. Rating: 4.9

This was a mind opening album for me. Still sounds truly fresh 25+ years on. It's probably my favorite Radiohead album, although of course they have at least 3 albums I'd give a 5. Anyway, easy 5. I feel like the album speaks for itself better than I can.

I feel bad, i liked the album but I didn't think it was one of the best albums ever. That is what i've heard about it. I think I'll have to go back and listen to it again.

Opvallend dat zo'n gelukzalig en voorspoeding decennium als de jaren negentig toch zoveel depri-muziek heeft voortgebracht (okee, er was ook happy hardcore). Ik heb destijds eigenlijk nooit veel naar Radiohead geluisterd, maar dit klassieke album kende ik natuurlijk wel. Het is goed gemaakt, daar niet van. Exit music for a film blijft tijdloos. Kortom, fijn om allemaal nog eens te horen, maar al met al vind ik veel van deze muziek toch te somber en te sloom om het vaker op te gaan zetten.

Dat gedrein. Als het een kind was, zou je hem toch even in de hoek zetten. Als het dreinende kind het masker even afzet, valt het wel mee. Het blijkt dan toch een kwaliteitsplaat. 3,5 sterren.

Radiohead is altijd al een band geweest die het experiment niet schuwde. Al begonnen ze met relatief (voor hun) eenvoudige albums qua nummers, op een gegeven moment schoten ze door in experimentele gefabriceerde muziek. De latere albums zijn geloof ik wel weer wat 'normaler', maar toen was ik eigenlijk al een beetje afgehaakt. Alles komt tezamen op OK Computer, wat mij betreft het beste album van Radiohead, met een serie aan wonderschone nummers. De falsetto stem van Thom Yorke, het gitaarwerk van Johnny Greenwood, maar ook de rest van de band levert geweldig werk. Van het grootse en meeslepende Paranoid Android tot aan het prachtige Exit music for a film, Radiohead laat op dit album zien waar ze allemaal toe in staat zijn of waren.

This is a great run of records for me, and another Im very familiar with. I know it’s not the ‘cool’ choice to think OK Computer is such an absolute masterpiece but it really is. From the more poppier songs to the experimental, every word just sounds sincere (I think that’s the word I’m looking for). I’m a sucker for bands where you can hear the exact place a song comes from, and Radiohead nail that here. It’s moody, atmospheric, progressive, experimental - every box ticked for me in what makes a great record. If Talking Heads were the band of the 80s, I reckon Radiohead take that prize for band of the 90s. Just fucking mint.

By far the best radiohead album, like lots of bands it's the peak between their straightforward and experimental stuff, best of both. Don't think I've ever given this a full spin though I knew most of it. The other album tracks were largely great too. Will definitely listen again.

Never really considered myself a Radiohead fan, but I'm fairly familiar with them. This is their best album we've had on the list so far imo.... I think the bends may be better though? Sure it will turn up. When they are good, they are fantastic, I'm just not sure all of it is quite at the same level. Karma police is by far the best thing about this album. Can picture the music video when I hear the song. No surprises is the next best thing about it. A-OK Computer.

overly complicated wake word

I've heard people say this is the greatest album of all time. It's not even the best album in the year it came out (Time Out of Mind or "Daft Punk" are both better). And it's not Radiohead's best album either (I prefer several, including Kid A). It's not bad album though. I'd give it 7 or 8 on a scale of 1 to 10. Normally that means I would round up to 4 stars, but given the slobber fest this album garners, I'm rounding down to 3. The album has a couple of very good songs, but a lot of boring songs as well (almost all of the second half of the album.)

BL: the generator must be trying to prod me by making me get two Radiohead albums two days in a row - this is supposed to be their magnum opus - so I will have to go into it thusly, and disregarded my previous take on The Bends yesterday. AL: alright fine. You got me. This album is brilliant, I was walking through a forest in the morning whilst listening to this and I don’t think there was a better way to experience this for the first time. Somber, beautiful and harrowing. The tones, ethereal sounds, electronica and rock all combined makes for a pretty unique experience and in the early internet days before the popularisation of electronic and rock synergies this would’ve been mind blowing to hear. thom yorke reminds me of spongebob in the episode where he is just really really sad - inconsolably so - and even squidward has deep deep concern for him, except this happened to spongebob because he lost his job which is deeply moving and sympathetic and i feel like this happened to yorke just because he had to eat his pasty in the rain and they ran out of chicken bakes so hes eating a macaroni pie instead

Good album, not as similar to Pink Floyd as people say but still a very good album. Similar to a David Bowie album from the 90s and Dark Side of the Moon. 100% deserves the recognition.

Life changing, alternative music that would go on to define the century that soon followed. Paranoid Android is a millennial anthem, can’t count the number of times I’ve cried to the beauty of Let Down on the train, and No Surprises depresses me in all the right ways.

This was better than I expected and I know that if i came more familiar with it I would learn to really like it so I’m going to be optimistic and give a 4. This was not similar to the other albums I’ve heard by Radiohead, and I am pleasantly surprised! I liked the different sounds. Overall impressed.

Remembering working one of my first jobs during the still-hot CD age and pre-Napster.... I had one of the first portable mp3 players that held up to FIFTEEN SONGS on it that you could swap in and out. Amazing. Anyways it was in this period where I was given this album at said job, who the hell knows what I was listening to at the time but Radiohead? Eh. Creep was just another angsty mid90s song. Forgettable but for that KUH-chuh...KUH-chuh.... You know. I kind of missed The Bends as I was busy in/with my own band at the time living the emaciated van life. Glamour - non-stop .... This is an absolute mess where was I - OH but Rick wherever you are, thanks for the loaner CD. WTF - Paranoid Android?? A friend described it months later as our generation's Bohemian Rhapsody - idk if true but I liked it nonetheless and it stuck with me. I know it's on a lot of shortlists for bEsT aLbUm EVAH!!.! and yeah it maybe is that good; I will subscribe in the sense that those first 4 songs rival anything I've ever drowned myself in with regards to nonstop holyshitness (see: Rush Moving Pictures). Each of these songs are different, melodic, terrifying, gorgeous, lush, mysterious...captivating. I always think once "Subterranean Homesick Alien" is done that it can't get more beautiful than that and yet then "Exit Music..." comes on and holy hell it's haunting. Lyrically sure but the music is a perfect match. My "problem" is that it doesn't hold onto the unimaginable bar those first 4 set. It's probably not possible (Camera Eye, Moving Pictures side 2 / track 5 - there's your bar) so it's unfair to judge against itself. The rest is merely quite good. Just not necessarily ethereal. Then again they could have put something as stupid as a Mac Classic computer voice on any of the remaining 8 tracks and still earned a 5 here so.... 10/10 5 stars

Pretty good album.I prefer the bends but this album is still good almost every song is a good track.No surprises,Karma Police,Exit music for a film,paranoid android are the stand out tracks.Sometimes it can be annoying with yorkes wailing but beside that it’s a really good album.Not the best of all time though.

OK Computer is such a profound album. One of Radiohead's best.

Good, and I get it's so many peoples favorite, but can't give it 5 because In Rainbows is better. Just isn't as well put together as an album, even if it has some of their best songs.

Well, no surprises here. Through the list I've warmed to Radiohead, but I was pretty cold before. I get a lot of what people love about this, but I think I just like it. But then I'm too young to be jaded to really fall into this I think. Maybe one day I'll love it.

I'm back to save the universe. God-tier writing on Karma Police and No Surprises. Only gripe is that it seems much longer than it actually is. It feels like I'm slogging away listening to this album but it's only 53 minutes long.

A great album here. Structurally and conceptually tight, a honing and advancement on their previous styles, and some classic tracks to boot. I will admit I have a preference for a couple of their later albums, and there are a couple tracks that are not really near the band at the best, though these are mostly compensated for by others that are. I get the hate for Radiohead, I guess I just come down on their side since I've enjoyed them since first hearing Pablo Honey a-ways-back-when. OK coMPUTER is a break from the gurney whiney alternative band and moves Radiohead into whiney adult rock agents. And I like it. 4/5.

I was too excited when I got this album, really made my Thursday. I've heard great things about this album, and it just did NOT live up to the hype. It was ok, I can see the appeal, but personally I'm not a fan. All the songs sound the same, I'm not a huge fan of the singer, and overall it was very bland.

I know this is a classic top 10 album, but I can never get through it. I try and I try and I get bored. I'd give it 3 stars, but I'm giving it 4 for my own patience issues.

I knew the shining reputation this album had for years, and have tried multiple times to listen to it all the way through, but I never truly appreciated the depth and complexity it has until now. This actually was the first album I went back to listen to a 2nd time just to further analyze it. Thematically is where OK Computer shines the most for me, and in a way where it has aged like the finest of wines, when looking at how quickly technology is advancing and/or shaping in our society and how things like social media has worked to drive wedges between us, while also contributing to increased consumerism, isolation, and so forth. Yorke sings about how he doesn't fit into the world he lives in all over this album, about how he just watches the chaos around him, his dissatisfaction with life, and just general worry, anxiety, and fear. A lot of these feelings would probably resonate with people today, from the rise of AI programs, to Covid-19, rising inequality, climate change, and so many other topics. Musically the album served as a final end to britpop, but also varied with crunchy, distorted guitars on more alternative rock numbers like Electioneering, to softer, atmospheric ballads like the Tourist, and then songs like Climbing Up The Walls which have a brooding, yet atmospheric nature with Yorke's vocals slinking their way around the track before turning into shrieks as distorted guitars just turn the track into a wall of sound to go along with said shrieks. It's an album that I'm already revisiting multiple times now and looking forward to do so multiple times in the future as I appreciate the lyrical and musical depth it has, and I can really see this becoming one of my favorite albums in the coming years, so I'll rate it as such.

Not too bad. Not much for Melancholic alt as a whole, nor Radiohead in particular. I did like 2 of the songs though

Miserable album, but that is what they were going for. I don't listen to it much these days but have some great memories of when it was first released.

The most popular “Karma Police” has nearly 4.5M plays and “No Surprises” has over 430M plays. While they aren’t as popular as Taylor Swift they have an enduring popularity and fan base. The lyrics are great, but the tunes are a little melancholy for my liking. The name ”OK Computer” is a Hitchhiker's reference and “Paranoid Android” is a reference to Marvin the depressed robot from the same radio series and subsequent book. I won’t listen to this album again but I may try some of their other material. My Rating: ***

I have never really sat down and given this record a focused listen. Despite that I'm struck by how familiar a lot of this record is, it must be a lot more ubiquitous than I realize. Radiohead has always been a lot for me, very dramatic indeed. And this record is very much that. Obviously they are a talented band and gifted musicians, but they just aren't really for me. I did enjoy listening to this, though it's hard for me to place it in any context.

Not sure how I ended up being one of the few who likes Thom Yorke.

A few songs are good, but this is still one of the most overrated albums of all time made by one of the most overrated artists of all time. Whiny and pretentious with lyrics you can barely understand and songs that sounds the same. 2.5/5

Other than a couple of songs, I'm not very familiar with Radiohead at all. This was a nice surprise. Now I get what I've been hearing about them.

First Radiohead album I got into that also made me not like people who got super into Radiohead. I'm ok with them now though. Some of my best friends are super into Radiohead.
