OK Computer

Time and place issue for this album. If I had listened in 1997 with a severe nihilism about the changing world and a considerable amount of depression, this album would be an easy 5. There are still great tracks, Exit Music / Lucky / Karma Police are all at the top of said list. That being said, it is incredibly dreary and depressing. The motif of the album is prescient as ever, but layering on the same woes we feel each day makes me feel more overwhelmed than heard.

I need to spend more time with this one. It's kind of "intentionally off-kilter" which makes it a jarring listen, but... it's supposed to be like that. The last song is very good.

Generally enjoyed it, despite it kinda being like background/score for my day. Notable standouts, IMO, were Airbag, Paranoid Android and No Surprises.

I know it's a legendary album and all but I couldn't really get into it. Too much literal noise for the sake of noise at times. Feels like it's trying to hard to be different, hip, and better than everything else with no real self awareness. Some good moments in parts though and good song writing. Liked some of the guitar work. Interesting choice of drum sound. Not sure what it is but really cant stand the song Karma Police. 2.5 but will round up to 3.

I recently reviewed The Bends. I like that one a lot better. Actually OK Computer is great, but it overstays its welcome in my opinion. I get tired of Yorke’s voice, but I do enjoy the soundscapes.

cool concept album - not exactly my speed.

I know it's a modern classic and I admire the techniques and the songwriting but it doesn't really float my boat.

I was only able to listen it once but It was OK. It's not my favourite music but it's not bad.

I’d stop just short of calling this greatness. There’s some good things going for this album though! I’d imagine in 1997 this sounded like the fucking future. There’s a lot of tactful instrumentation choices, as well as a very clear atmosphere this album sonically exists in. It just lacks a bit of punch and/or ability to hold my attention, personally. That Apple automated talking voice is such a cool choice on “Fitter Happier”. On the other hand, songs like “Climbing Up The Walls” weren’t as easy on the ears as I’d hoped. I don’t take issue with Thom Yorkes voice being overtly whiny or impossible to listen to, but it wasn’t great on this song. “In Rainbows” was the Radiohead album that clicked for me, I had no such click with this one. 3/5

It’s fine, seriously what is all the fuss about Radiohead

reminded me so much of MCR! Surprised me because i’ve only heard creep before. You can hear how influential they have been to bands that came after. I listened to it in the car and was like man i cant understand a single word. Let me listen with headphones when i get home. That didn’t help at all and had to read the lyrics for every song regardless, which sadly reminds me of indie rock. I think the abstract lyrics work for some songs but others it makes them sound unfocused. The only songs i’d listen to again are climbing up the walls, no surprises and lucky. I did like the instrumentals for each song though. 6.5/10

This is the Album everyone loves. I never got into it. “The Bends” is my favorite Radiohead album. Starting at the beginning with “Airbag”, this might be the listen that sways me. I still don’t like “paranoid android”. “Subterranean homesick alien” has potential. That was enjoyable. I’m digging “exit music(for a film)” as well. Exit music is really good. I love the build and the vocals against the fuzz bass tones. I’m glad I’m listening to this record again. “Let down” is a great song. I think I’m just not a fan of the singles from this record. Like “Karma Police” I never got the hype. Up to “Karma police” now. Just the chord progression turns me off. Skipping this one. “Fitter happier” was a clever piece. Would not seek out as a jam, but I like what they did there. “Electioneering” starts off with a great intro riff. Digging the vibe of this. Radiohead are a great band. The sound scape on climbing up the walls is next level. I love whatever instrument starts “no surprises”. Still not my favorite Radiohead album but there are a lot good moments on this record.

Oooook???? The best album in the world ever according to virgins worldwide. If you have not felt the warm embrace of another person, this album is your life. I kid. As a man with particularly eccentric interests myself (god that sounds like I collect taxidermied humans or something), I understand being an obsessive weirdo. I hope to understand the hype as I enter the thrilling world of Y2K era computer-based art. I have firmly affixed my hacker eye piece and I am ready to say “OK computer, show me some beefed up hogs wrestling over a big tire in a field.” Airbag - Am I getting U2 from this? Why am I asking? I am. It’s “creep”ing into my head. I can’t escape them. The music itself is very innovative here though. Somehow rocking extremely hard underneath vocals I’m not enjoying at all. Paranoid Android - Wait a second, androids can’t feel emotions. Explain yourself. Oh yeah. Way fewer U2 feelings here. Hellacious riff about halfway through and a continuation of the very interesting musical experimentation that permeated the first track. Whether Android, iPhone, or rocking back and forth in a damp cellar trying to come down off of dopamine addiction, I think we can all get along under the banner of the android. Subterranean Homesick Alien - Bob Dylan reference on a Radiohead song? Holy sweet hell. This probably caused literal shockwaves in whatever community I haven’t poked fun at yet. Warhammer 40k players? Backgammon associate masters? Who cares. Exit Music (For a Film) - Thanks for spelling it out, Thommy. Is it Thom? I think so. This is a fantastic song. Moody, dark, and even a little heavy in places. I was going to make dumb jokes about the fact that they really jammed “for a film” in there, but this song kind of just took the wind out of my bad joke writing. How dare you. Let Down - This may be the greatest gambit ever pulled. Call the bad song on your record Let Down. Genius. 10 star salute to my bois in the band. Karma Police - A song that has been firmly planted in my A(u)(r)tistic playlist for a long time. It’s a beautiful song. So Fitter Happier - No more bad stuff. Stephen Hawking slayed this feature. Years ahead of the trend of putting dumb celebrities in dumber songs. Disclaimer: I am not proud of the Stephen Hawking “joke.” It is the laziest, garbage-iest, meme-iest type of humour that there is, and it should’ve stayed in 2002. But if I said, “is this the same guy that does “Jennifer,” the opening track on “Prowler in the Yard.””Would you have ANY idea what I’m talking about? Oh who cares. I could write a detailed terrorist plot in here and nobody would read it. Cool track. Electioneering - They seem to do a bad song, followed by a great song, followed by a bad song. Perhaps that is another concept that’s wafting above my admittedly stunted head. My actual head is HUGE, but the brain inside doesn’t quite live up to its gigantic casing. It’s like a AA battery trying to power a small city. This song does continue the trend. Climbing Up the Walls - The pattern continues. This song is interesting and grabbed me from the start. I even like the song title. Anxiety in a musical format. Gotta be the best genre goin’. No Surprises - None? I had a whole 30th anniversary planned for May 28, 2027. Do you think it’s cheap to rent out the Bridgewater Legion Hall?? You know what? I’m starting to think you guys don’t even want to come hang out with me in Nova Scotia in two years. I know that can’t be it, so what’s wrong? Cold shoulder. Listen. This song is not as good as the previous one, but it’s alright. Trend sort of broken. Now will you visit?? I bought streamers. Lucky - L-U-C-K-Y somethin’ somethin’ pussy on fire. When will we be reviewing RuPaul music? I assume she’s got 6 or 7 albums on here. While we wait for that fabulous day, I am still in the midst of this technology opus. There really hasn’t been any computer talk. I’m crushed. This is fine. The Tourist - The enemy of all angry hippies worldwide. Somebody cares about my city? I HATE THEM SO MUCH. It’s their fault prices are going up, and not the evil opportunistic monsters that created and thrive in the cesspool that they have ensnared us in. Yeah this song is real depressing. I think that’s the aim. Kind of a snooze for me, as I’m not really feeling that particular way right now. I suppose that’s a good thing. This is obviously a meticulously crafted record. I typically feel one of two ways when I come to review the “big critical success” albums. I am usually excited, but I can also be overwhelmed by the volume of opinions and I can sometimes feel like an alien. Of this is your favourite album, good for you. I think it’s a fine choice. You can tell it is musically capable, and Radiohead did a lot of supremely interesting things with the rock genre here. They wrote beautiful melodies, hard-driving riffs, and crafted some excellent soundscapes. They also produced some extensive boredom. It’s not because I’m some dolt that needs to be thrilled with each and every note, but certainly on a first pass, there were stretches where k thought there was too much air, or where the vocals veered into obnoxious and whiny tones. When you meld these two critiques, you’re left with a good album. One that I will revisit, but nothing that changed my life. Accessing mainframe. A good album start to finish. It's a bit self indulgent. Wasn't a fan of their music when it came out but after hearing it in a Father Ted episode I grew to enjoy some of it

That's not my taste in music - But ok

I hated this album when it first came out, but after hearing my brother playing it a lot, I started coming round to it a bit more. After 28 years, I like it marginally more than I don’t like it. Sonically odd with lots of layering and screaming guitars; TY doing his weird wailing; and words that seem to have been chosen for their sound rather than their meaning, it’s quite good. Radiohead have never been shy about experimenting, and they have really gone experimental in this. There are loads of weird sounds on this, but it’s a bit overloaded with sound. The tracks start well, mostly, and some are decent, but they descend into noise which I don’t like. I think these dips into sonic experimentation are to disguise the fact that this album isn’t half as good as they think it is.

Didn't love the sound but was more pleasant than I thought it would be

Radiohead is one of those bands I feel that I should like more than I do. *The Bends is super. These guys are immense songwriters and I truly appreciate the musicianship, but never feel a need to put them on. Cerebral and depressing is how it comes off for me. Medicating in a post surgery, opioid kind of way. Dragged under while still floating on a cloud. There but not there. Is this a positive review, or a negative one? Too out there to tell.

I liked the concept of the album. I really enjoyed what felt like a seamless blends of genres in this album. My favorite (besides Karma Police, because duh) was Exit Music (For A Film); I found it more melodic than some of the other songs. This was not my favorite listen from Radiohead, but I get it and I get why it’s so revered and influential. I enjoyed this. Probably won’t revisit. I do not need to own on this on vinyl. (Why does Thom Yorke get to have whiny, nasally, sub-par, pitchy vocals but Taylor Swift can’t?)

Would have loved this if it caught me at the right age. First time listen but it’s probably going to have a few more listens to full appreciate it. A scorching day isn’t the right conditions, a gloomier night will be more appropriate.

Pure joie de vivre

Well, this album took me right back to high school. Technically competent, but I’ve definitely grown out of the whiny teenager melodies of Thom Yorke. Man needs a punch in the face, he does.

Rounded up to 3 for these wankers, but it's a lot of incoherent moaning if we are honest.

I’ve never listened to this album but have heard enough praise for it to know there is something there. I do think there’s a lot of meat on these bones that would be rewarded by multiple listens. I’ve heard a lot of Radiohead songs that I like, but I’ve never gotten hooked enough to really dive in. Glad I listened to this.

Driving and watching landscapes pass, dissolving into each other. The slow rise of mountains, the hazy distance of the road in desert, the lights of the gas station at night in the middle of the plains. Not doing well, but no one else is on the road, so that's okay.

I forgot how whiny and self indulgent they are. At least it wasnt boring.

I can respect the achievement of this album. The sounds are fully unique and inventive. I just don’t care for the pace or sound of Thom Yorke’s voice. Ultimately a DNF due to my own tastes but I will likely revisit throughout my life.

giving this one a fair shake for the first time in years, always been resistant. i like it more than i did when i was younger, but overall it’s still not really my wheelhouse. lots of great production ideas and musical concepts, the craftsmanship is really really impressive. i feel like there are long stretches of the vibe being very languid and drawn out, and sometimes they pay off but sometimes they don’t. it’s good but it’s exhausting. a lot of the album’s runtime kinda feels like homework to me, ultimately i wasn’t really feeling very many feels.

Only familiar with the radio hits, so pleasantly surprised but the album.

I liked Bends better than this one. It would be a 3.5 for me, so rounding down. Songs sounded pretty similar throughout, not bad just not great.

I enjoy their sound & all of its messy distortion. but it is about 20 minutes too long. think about 35 minutes of brooding lyrics is about it for me. 3.5 because of that.

I can appreciate this record for its impressive production quality, relatively novel music, and interesting lyrical themes. It’s really well done, and there’s no technical faults to be found anywhere within. I appreciate Thom Yorke’s singing as well, it’s a very unique style. Unfortunately I just don’t vibe with this record, I found myself bored quite often while listening to it. “Exit Music (For a Film)” is a really exceptional track that I’ve always really liked, it’s as emotionally powerful as it is beautiful, really the best thing to come from this album by far. I want to give this album 3.5*, but rounding to a four just feels incorrect based on how I found myself feeling while listening to it. Let’s call it 3.49 and round down.

This is the point they discovered they could climb up their own collective arse, so they did. A couple of songs I like but most of them I can take or (more likely) leave.

I always want to like Radiohead but, truthfully, I always end up bored

A few very very good songs that I wasn’t really aware of being by Radiohead pleasantly surprised overall a solid 3 close to 4 nearly.

Never really listened to Radiohead before. Certainly not my favorite album ever, some of the really out there parts can be hard to listen to but tracks like Let Down and Electioneering were highlights for me

Surprisingly dull in hindsight

I really don't get all of the critical love for this band. This album is fine and I have no objection to putting it on this list, but Apple including it in the 100 Greatest Albums of all time is a bridge too far. Just too esoteric for me.

I like a lot of things about this album... but I'm just not a big fan of Thom York's singing. I feel that I could listen through this dozens of times and always find something new to appreciate - a different version of myself would be incredibly into this album, but if I'm going to be honest with myself I probably wont be back. I will say this album is very ahead of it's time. Nothing here sounds 1997.

Okay I guess. Seemed like it would be great music to fall asleep to, and I don't mean that in the "it was boring" way, it just had that falling asleep vibe to it.

Here's the thing. I like Radiohead now. They won me over with the albums of theirs I've already listened to, and I have heard a lot about this one in particular. But... while it's definitely interesting, lyrically at least, and well-made, I just... didn't find much here for me. This is the sixth Radiohead album I've been served up on this list, and I can't for the life of me work out why that is. None of them have been bad and I made it all the way through each and every one of them. A few of them had some good tracks, and this one is no different as 'No Surprises' has always been hauntingly beautiful. However, I am yet to come across an album that I felt was better than 'meh, I didn't feel the need to turn it off'. Hopefully , this the final album of theirs that I get (confession, I had a look at their discography and I may be in luck in that regard)!

I'm going to put aside my bias against the idea of Radiohead for this listen. Seriously. I will try. I'll try to ignore decades of critics telling me that every Radiohead album is the greatest thing ever made. I'm not even going to acknowledge the fact that a Thom Yorke fart sounds record would get 5 stars in Rolling Stone. I will NOT think about how skinny white British guys making grumpy faces were the basis of cool for much of my young life. For real. I kind of loved listening to this record. I tried it all the way through many times long ago, and never bought in. But for some reason, now it clicks. I dig the unconventional song structures and instrumentation. Thom’s voice is annoying sometimes, but I’m getting over that. The singles are badass and often find their way onto my playlists, but the other tunes also have moments of rock song perfection, even if they ramble a bit. I could do with about 50% less feedback. I know it was edgy at the time, but sheesh. Anyway, I “got it” enough to really enjoy listening today. I’ll be back for more and I wouldn’t be surprised if my personal rating climbs the more I let it sink in.

Rating this a 3 because although the lyrics are great, I couldn’t understand them or hear them while I listened to it in the car. Some songs are good and nice to listen and engage with, but had it not been for a second listen I would rated a 2.

Its not my fave

This might be sacrilege to some, but I don't really understand the Radiohead hype. Even when I was in high school, which is supposed to be peak whiny, annoying, angst time, or the time you should most like Radiohead, I've just never loved them. They're good don't get me wrong but time and time again I see people rate them as one of if not the greatest bands of all time and it just never clicked for me. This is probably the 5th of 6th time listening to this album so it's not like I don't give them a fair shake. Whatever. 6/10

Altough a step up from the bends, OK computer still leaves quite a bit to be desired. I don't think the theme has been excuted to its best, although the concept of the record is excellent, which gives tracks like paranoid android which is just laughably bad and other tracks, which, ironically, people tend not to listen, that are great. So theres a certain level of unbalance in the record and the flow is thus broken. Overall a step up from the bends and much more listenable as a whole and a great theme. Favorite track: subterranean homesick alien. Overal score: 6.3/10

Never listened to Radiohead that much, they always seemd kind of dull and boring. I listened to this album a couple of times today and I think this band definitely deserves a deeper dive in the future, considering their cult status. For now, this was not bad, but also not too good for me. I get the songwriting, but it's a bit bland sonically at times.

As much as I love Radiohead in general, and how important this record was to me as a teenager first getting into music, I now find the experimentation of it more frustrating than exciting, and can’t help but think of it as a stepping stone between two more exciting albums.

I try really hard to like Radiohead, but I just don’t get it. Maybe I’m in the minority.

I remember back when this was released and everyone was raving about it. I wasn't a fan of the first single released but I went and bought the cd to see what all the hype was about. I listened to it and wasn't impressed. I kept listening to it but it just didn't grow on me. Eventually I got rid of that cd and moved on. Listening again after all these years, it's not as bad as I remember. Having listened to other Radiohead releases for this project I can say it's not their worst album. I still don't get the hype though.

so, i really wanted to like this album. i feel like normally i try to check any bias at the door, but i was truly excited for this one and waited until i could sit down, fully engage/listen and even have the lyrics up as i listened to the album. and for the life of me... i just didn't get it. i read a bit of the wikipedia page about this album and it still didn't stick. I'm going to give it a three on sound alone (Karma Police, Electioneering being the highlights), but I can't help but feel this just went over my head. I think my next step is to listen to the Dissect season that breaks down this album. If it's worth a season on Dissect, it probably means that I am missing a ton and have a lot to learn about it. Sorry Radiohead, but this gets a three until I learn more.

For some reason back in high school I was obsessed with no surprises, especially after seeing the music video with the guys helmet slowly filling up with water as he’s singing. I felt so edgy and musically liberated. So I was going into this album expecting to like it a lot but idk why it just really didn’t hit for me (especially with how many comparisons with Coldplay they get).

I know this is an all-time album for a lot of people, so I was surprised that it wasn’t at least drawing me in when I listened to it. I re-listened to the first half of the album, and I was starting to see the appeal, but I also started to see why people rag on Thom Yorke quite a bit. I don’t think it’s a bad album, it’s just not as good as The Bends for me, and I probably need more time for it to grow on me.

Radiohead is a major blind spot in my musical knowledge. I've always heard that OK Computer is one of the best albums of all time, and I've been looking forward to listening to it since this list started. After a finally giving it a full listen, I think this might be one of the most overrated albums of all time. That's not to say it's bad, I just don't think it's as good as everyone says. Radiohead. I am getting used to this band. Some good tunes. I like the creativity of some of the songs.

Pretty nice album, enjoyed a couple of the songs, one even sounded familiar (No Surprises) and the Exit Music one was very intense but not in a bad way. Overall, pretty alright stuff.

As beloved as they are by the public, I cannot get into Radiohead without really needing to be in the right mood. This album has some definite highlights but it’s nothing I will be playing on repeat.

Most Radiohead songs sound like a montage in an early 2000’s teen drama. And I love One Tree Hill so I guess that means I love this album???

Better than other Radiohead releases, but it still doesn't quite get me over the hump. Too much atmosphere, not enough substance. The lyrics come in and out much like the instrumentation. I need it a little.more lucid and solid for my tastes.

Not a fan at all. I know this album is widely regarded as a masterpiece, but it just does not connect with me. The overall tone feels overly bleak and, vocally, it leans into a style that I struggle with. After a few tracks, everything starts to blur together and I find it hard to stay engaged. I can hear the ambition and the atmosphere they are aiming for, and I respect how influential the record has been, but for me it feels cold rather than moving. Personally, I have always found Radiohead to be a little overrated compared to some of their contemporaries. A much more enjoyable listen than Kid A. It seems he forgot how to sing on that album but shows he is quite capable of holding notes and singing with emotion. Still not my favorite singer by a long shot but I don’t actively hate this album. My biggest complaint is a general overuse of effects. I felt it was egregious on Kid A and only slightly annoying on OK Computer. Step away from the effects board!

I've given this a decent couple of listens and I like it! Not a lot, but I like it.

This was an OK Album. Much of it sank into the background for me but was pleasant enough I listened to it through several times, but also little really stood out to me. I two tracks I loved though and think are individually 5 stars are Climbing Up the Walls and Meeting in the Aisle.

It's been a regular visitor to my ears. It's not blessed my ears, it's not offended them either. Entirely satisfactory album. Not quite 4 stars.

I was expecting this album to show up at some point and was looking forward to finally hearing it. I admit to disappointment. I normally connect with music that is strong thematically, lyrically and musically. This one just didn't do it for me. Maybe it was just a bit too dark with at times obscure lyrics. Having said the above, a couple of songs were notable including "No Surprises" and "Lucky". Just a 3 from me...

I've tried with this album a few times over the years. It's fine I suppose, but I'm not quite sure why so many people consider it an all time great, up the with Dark Side of The Moon and Abbey Road. It sounds English to me. It sounds outside the box and has some synth sounds and stuff. I guess it spoke to a generation that is not me. If feels like it's ground breaking and amazing if you've never listened to anything outside of top 40 popular music. One of the song on here really remind me of Steel Pole Bath Tub. This sounds post U2. It sounds cohesive as an album. The production is good. Everything is good. Just not one of the greatest rock albums of all time. Not for me. I'm not sure about what's going on with the lyrics and that might be a big part of it. 3.5/5

I need to give this one a second pass, a lot of the songs take a while to really come together and the vibe as a whole feels really slow in a way that clicks when it cooks but often left me kind of bored. Still, it has me wanting to go through again to see if it works for me so it clearly did something right?

Too depressive

Turns out I'm okay without the computer telling me what to do. Skipped Fitter Happier everytime after about 10 seconds. Liked No Surprises. I need to dig a little deeper on the lyrics, because they don't typically stand out to me while I'm listening, but tracks like Electioneering are definitely still relevant more than 25 years later. Still not really a Radiohead fan, but I wouldn't turn if off, either. Like a cat.

There's some songs on here that I appreciate more now that I've been able to marinate on this album for 25 years. I wasn't a fan initially.

More like a 3.5 for me. Granted I was never someone who listened to Radiohead. I heard the album back at release and didn't get the hype. I still don't in 2024. To be honest, I enjoyed In Rainbows more as I think it's a much more consistent quality of a listen.

I *still* want to like Radiohead more than I do, sadly. This is probably one of their better if not their best album, I know, but I still have a hard time enjoying the songs, even though they're well done and have interesting arrangements and odd lyrics in a good way. I'm not sure why they don't do it for me (although I think part of it is Thom Yorke's voice/style, sadly), but I likely won't listen to this album again. Sorry Radiohead! I *will* say that the music video for "Paranoid Android" is truly bizarre, and I couldn't stop watching the entire 6+ minute video (although I'll admit that I probably wouldn't have done so if they'd left it at the original 14-minute runtime). And I also have *zero* idea what I just saw, or what the song is about (and I don't think the animation really had anything to do with the song, oddly (correction: apparently the animator based the video on how the song felt, and wasn't provided the lyrics ahead of time)), but I love it that the song's title is inspired by "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". And a few other things that I liked from the Wikipedia article on the album: Brian Eno is once again everywhere; apparently they took a break from this album by touring and opening for Alanis Morisette (not the most logical pairing, I would think); and I can definitely see why Yorke credits Philip K. Dick's VALIS as an influence (although I now realize I was thinking of Dick's "Ubik" when I read "VALIS").

OK Radiohead. He sings like his tongue is numb. There were parts that I liked (instrumental bits) and parts I didn’t like (when he gets a bit too whiney with the vocals). I actually enjoyed the more experimental album we had last from them more than this and this is their biggest album. Karma Police is their best song. 6/10

WTF seriously another Radiohead album. So this my third so far out of roughly 100 albums. Did we actually need to hear 3 of these before we die? No of course not because they all sound basically the same.

Some all-time Radiohead bangers, but songs tend to blend together overall.

I learned a couple of things in listening to this album. First, I learned that "OK Computer" is regarded as the album that more or less began Radiohead's transition into heavier experimental and progressive sounds, rather than just "typical" alternative music. By listening to the music, this fact is pretty obvious. Second, I learned that I'm not very into this era of Radiohead. Don't get me wrong, the musicality and concept for this album are strong, and exactly of the caliber that you would expect from Radiohead. But I'm just not that into it. A very weak 3 from me.

Unfortunately Radiohead is a band that I just haven’t been able to ever get into, minus a few of their mega hit songs. I struggled connecting with the music.

Never listened to this before - it just sort of passed me by in the days before streaming and I've never bothered to listen since. It's probably something I'd really enjoy if I listened to it about 20 times. I managed three listens over a couple of days and I'm sure there's something there to justify the hype, but I'm not particularly inclined to put the time in I'd need to find out. I can understand why people liked it though and I'm glad to have listened to it.

I think this is the kind of album that is going to take a number of listenings to be appreciated. Some of the techniques will take some getting used to; the smearing of the lyrics for example. It isn’t always easy to tell what’s being said - or even when words change. Interesting sounds though.

Pretty great album

With the presence of some real excellence also comes a bit of polarizing execution. The production vosuexis high, and the structure of the songs is well done. The use of instruments and the singing are also something to be appreciated. I get lost in the experimental abyss, but I also get caught by the beauty. Overall, a strong album that deserves its recognition. I should appreciate this more for influencing the better side of “Sad boy rock” but here we are…

A couple of gems. A few meh tunes. I like melancholy music but this is too dreary at times. There better Radiohead albums.

Groundbreaking!

Took a few songs to get used to the groany voice. Love the guitar. Love the thoughts on what technology is doing to people. I would have loved this album as an angsty teenager, but now it hurts my head a little.

Never listened to much Radiohead. Thought this was going to be more electronic, but still mostly guitar based. It's pretty good, although I couldn't understand most of the lyrics. Would revisit. 3.6

Radiohead is still hit or miss for me, and this album was more hit than miss compared to the last one we listened to.

I have had two Radiohead albums from this list already, and my reaction to this one is the same: good musicianship, but a little dreary and depressing.

Just listened to this a few months back. I just don’t get why this band is so popular. The back half of the album is pretty good but this album is in the top 20 here along with the biggest albums of all time. It’s just…..fine?

Radiohead again, this is their third album I got in only two weeks of doing this. I can't say I truly hated any of it, I just heavily disliked it although I admit I disliked this one less than expected and prefer it to the other two (Kid A and Hail to the Thief). There are actually more than a few parts that were ok, instrumental mostly, as well as parts that bored me and parts that annoyed me. Yorke's voice and singing makes me want to punch the guy. Maybe this band could be an acquired taste but right now, it's all just meh to me.

Karma Police and No Surprises are absolute gems that make the album so much better than it should be. Without them, it's a really good album. But not amazing. Those 2 songs are amazing. Other standouts like the Tourist and other songs are better than good, but not amazing. And the rest of the album is really good. But In Rainbows is so much better as a whole. But Karma Police and No Surprises are better than an individual song on In Rainbows.

Decent album with a great song

Damn, another listen to this thing and another time I fail to enjoy it. Maybe its because the band fail to sound like they're enjoying themselves at all, or maybe because they fail to sound like anything?? The performances of Let Down and Karma Police feel particularly shapeless, and fail to give the songs the heart they really need. Another gripe is that they sound far too serious and moody to ever truly rock like they did on The Bends. This is likely because on so many of the songs the band are playing greatly into art rock pretentions that they sound massively out of their zone on the truly rock moments like Electioneering. Hell, I would even argue that Paranoid Android suffers from this, especially when they go into the heavy part a second time, forgetting the most effective aspect of the tune was its creeping suspense. However, when the album turns its fears of technology and alienation inward, it greatly succeeds. Exit Music's images of abandonment and it's slow, anguished build are still captivating. No Surprises is just as powerful, greatly showing Johnny Greenwood's talents as an arranger. This is not to mention the beyond-words excellent production of Nigel Godrich, and the much-needed life he brings to some of the weaker songs, though I do find Let Down to still sound a bit of a mess. Ultimately, I still find OK Computer a confusing record, and one that often gets in its own way. Maybe, if Thom addressed some of his concerns in a more human, real way, I'd be more empathetic. But sadly this album is too big, too blatant for me to feel much of anything.

Seems like too much and too little at the same time. Lead singer mumbles words and gas a whiny tone. The instruments are played well with precision. There are small stretches of good rock music intereperced with long, boring, whiny sessions. It's like the band could play good music but chose not to.

Much better than I remembered. Never been a fan of Yorke's voice, but works well here and this was when Radiohead were good before they started putting out all the weird shit later on.

Always a bit similar to Muse's slower tracks, but with a few totally original songs thrown in.

Solid album. I debated between 3/5 or 4/5. It honestly deserves the 4 from how important it is culturally, but I doubt I will ever return to the album. Nothing in the album stands out as good or bad to me. I know this was genre redefining in 1997 and must have sounded much different too the ears 25 years ago. From a 2023 perspective it is a little bland and generic. Genuinely suffering from success since this is the blueprint for British rock through the 2000s. I have plenty of respect for the band and the album but it's just not quite my vibe.

This album is lauded as one of the greatest albums of all time so of course I've been trying to figure out why.... for like forever. I've listened to it dozens of time and I think its good, but do I like it... not really. I do however acknowledge its nuanced, experimental approach and densely layered sound, and I am forever grateful that this album basically started the shift from the hated and retched Brit-pop to a more melancholic, atmospheric alternative rock sound that became more prevalent in the next decade, so I have them to thank for that. But once again, I don't love it.
