I HATE Reggae, but because it’s Bob Marley I’ll give it a 2.

Did not enjoy, not into Reggae at all. I get that Bob Marley was very good at what he did, it's just not for me. Best: Natty Dread, No Woman No Cry Worst: So Jah S'eh, Rebel Music (3 O'Clock Roadblock)

Would probably like the album more if i listened to it with a cold one and on a hot sunny day at the beach, but im not really getting in the mood right now.

I struggle with Bob Marley. I am admittedly no reggae expert but to my untrained ears, musically a lot of this sounds like a lounge bar band pastiche of reggae, it's soulless at times. Sacrilege I know.

Een paar nummers wel leuk, maar daarna bgint het toch wel saai en erg kabbelend te worden.

Nice and chilled but hard to put it anywhere on par with the Legend compilation. Easy listening in the background, nothing more.

I’m not really sure what to make of the reggae genre. If you were to describe a chilled out evening and some tunes to suit, this would be the genre. The tunes are fun and the style is chilled, but the lyrics run deep. An all happy and fulfilling album.

2.5 | Confirma dos cosas que tenía muy claras. Bob Marley es el mejor compositor e interprete que el reggae tiene y el reggae no es para mí (o al menos no lo aguanto en dosis mayores a 5 minutos). Tiene canciones que musicalmente me pueden agradar bastante, el órgano tipo gospel en No Woman No Cry siempre me ha gustado, el blues en Rebel Music no lo veía venir, Bend Down Low cambia el ritmo y le pone algo de movimiento al disco. A pesar de todo y de que veo que es un disco muy bien hecho no le puedo dar más; el resto de las canciones con el sonsonete clásico del reggae que después de una canción simplemente no me pasa. Se siente como un disco más maduro que otras canciones que le conozco en cuanto a que todas las letras bastante llenas de politiquería y protesta creo bien realizadas. Me agradó aprender que en sus canciones normalmente registraba los derechos de autor a nombre ya fuera de familiares o amigos que le hubieran inspirado a escribir x canción, a manera de protegerlos y asegurarse de que siempre les quedara algo en caso de que su herencia se desmadrara, habla muy bien de él... aunque siga sin aguantar un disco completo suyo.

Pasa totalmente desapercibido. No es malo y quizá por separado y de una por una algunas canciones me gustan, pero como disco entero me cuesta trabajo darle atención.

I pretty much hate all Reggae, so even a 2-star rating is a compliment. This is clearly good for what it is, but I can't do it.

I've never liked Bob Marley but listening to it now, the real problem with it isn't that the music outright sucks - it's that it's been hijacked over the years by champagne hippies who are all style over substance. Not my thing, but not as obnoxious as expected. It's slow, introspective and probably good to sway along to if you're stoned - there's that swing feel wankers describe as "chill". I'm not a convert and I'll still avoid beach bars in Asia because of it, but I should redirect my hate away from Bob himself haha. 2/5.

Oh no, not Bob Marley. I've never really liked reggae, I did enjoy Marley's ska stuff but his straight ahead reggae is just too slow and repetitive to me. This album is not for me, I know people love it but it's nails on a chalkboard to me.

Not a reggae fan. Slightly better than ska. But what I really don't like is somebody famous for singing about 'one love' or peace but beats his wife and his girlfriend. Gets one because it can't get none.

Not really my type of music. Song #1: Too repetitive. Song #2: A classic, but I prefer other artists’ interpretations. Song #3: Nothing particularly interesting stands out. Song #4: Sounds the same from start to finish and is far too long. Song #5: Also not very interesting, though it feels slightly better than the previous tracks. Song #6: Possibly the most repetitive song on the album—I don’t think I can hear “natty dread” one more time. Songs #7–10: Same vibe as the rest of the album. Overall: 3/10 There’s nothing particularly compelling about this album. While listening, it felt like every song blended into the next, with very little variation throughout. The repetition is so heavy that the album could easily be cut in half without losing much. It’s not that the album is bad—it just didn’t resonate with me at all. That said, I’ll admit I didn’t pay close attention to the lyrics, which may have affected my experience.

Can't get around him being an abusive asshole long enough to listen to the album. I dunno, just not worth it imo.

A different kind of dread has befallen your dear reviewer. Thoroughly influential political figure who makes thoroughly terrible music appears on a Friday and my hopes of an unblemished long weekend fade into a puff of smoke. I shouldn’t have to say this, but just because I think Bob Marley sucks, doesn’t mean I deny his influence. If you are really passionate about this guy, then good for you. There are worse artists to enjoy, but when I say I’m “dreading” this, please know that I really am just a hater of the music, and with this endeavour, I don’t believe that will change. Revolutionize my mind, Bob. I need to understand what people see in your music. Lovely Up Yourself - Oh man. That was accidentally good for a second. The screaming and the lack of shitty reggae guitar was cool! It settles into the rut Ive come to expect from this squad. No Woman No Cry - No Marley No Cry. Yes Marley Yes Painful Sobbing. Them Belly Full (But We Hungry) - Another song that sounded very cool for the first 5-10 seconds. Now, this song has a cool message and isn’t as bad as the others. That praise the equivalent of me giving this record a 5. Rebel Music (3 O’Clock Roadblock) - when I was a kid, I got a multi-coloured harmonica at Old Navy. Maybe it was GAP. Anyway. I would pull out smoother runs on that thing as a borderline toddler. This is one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard. So Jah S’Eh - I could sleep if this werent so annoying! Because uhh I’m bored. Yeah you got it. Natty Dread - Repetition really is the recipe for reggae. A recipe that has caused me a great deal of physical distress. Bend Down Low - More of the s(h)ame Talkin’ Blues - Just stop saying the same thing over and over again. Please? Revolution - If Revolution had cooler music, maybe we’d have done it by now. Am-A-Do - AAAAAHHHHH. Do it with your bad self (x76). It’s so profound. I can’t do this kind of music. It doesn’t appeal to me in any way, shape or form. It is repetitive to the point of nausea and it seems to be more about feeling good than the protest it is purported to be. I don’t know. I’ve always preferred my revolutionary music to be wrapped in angry package. This seems placid. Listless. Like “who cares about the revolution. As long as we’re havin’ fun!!!” I’m not having fun. Have a great weekend everybody. The only time I could technically pursue what I want to, but I’m frozen in a perpetual anxious state due to the fact that the infinite resumes on Tuesday. Give thanks for the great corporate society we have built for ourselves! 0.5 HIGHLIGHTS: the first 5 seconds of two songs.

Just not my cup of tea at all unfortunately

I spent two weeks of the summer of 1995 in Jamaica on a missions trip with my church youth group. We spent most of that time in the Jamaican backcountry building a school for deaf children. The last two or three days of the trip we spent in Montego Bay. It was a ton of fun, but there was one thing that bummed me out about the trip. The only music you heard was Bob Marley, and it was unavoidable. On a bus or a taxi? Bob Marley on the radio. Walking around in the street? Bob fucking Marley blasting over someone’s boombox. Inside a restaurant or in the hotel lobby? Bob Marley. In the hospital, Bob Marley wafting in through the open window (I know this because a buddy of mine got appendicitis on this trip). Even in the mountains, in the middle of nowhere, in a town with a population of 15 and no electricity or running water, Bob Marley seemed to be carried on the wind to grind any enjoyment you might have had for his music into the dirt. Bob Marley is a cultural icon in Jamaica, and seemingly no one else. There is nothing else. In Jamaica, all is Bob Marley and Bob Marley is all there is. And now, 30 years later, I still hate reggae. It’s not fair to other reggae artists. It’s not even fair to Bob Marley, who really has no control over his legacy postmortem. But I fucking hate reggae now thanks to Bob Marley and my time in Jamaica. 1/5

I had Peter Tosh's "Legalize It" a while ago and I went into this one with the same openness, to maybe be surprised by Reggae, one more time (however unlikely because I know of course what Bob Marley sounds like). But no. Unlike Legalize It, this is precisely what I expected: to be unfathomably bored. And worse. There's possibly something I'm missing in the lyrics or the whole thing's cultural or whatever importance but I can't be arsed to look or hear into it. This is the lamest, tamest, and accordingly most tainted by irritating superficial Reggae bros music in the history of everything. The absolute cliché of a sound I'm not too fond of to begin with. All these blunts, for this!? Coincidentally, I played another Reggae album from a list of records released in 1974, the same year, just yesterday. Out of curiosity, an artist I'd never heard of, super high rated. "Peace and Love - Wadadasow" from Dadaweh. Makes me deduct another point here.

Aïe, je connais Bob Marley avec No Woman, No Cry, mais je n'apprécie pas. Le premier morceau ne me le fait pas plus apprécier, il est tellement répétitif. Allez je me laisse 2 dernières chances ... Définitivement non, trop répétitif, et je n'aime pas du tout cette rythmique à contretemps, quasiment le même dans chaque morceau. Je m'arrête au 4eme. => 1/5

My glasses broke recently. I purchased a specific screwdriver for it but then lost the screw. The next week I got screws for it but none of them fit, so I had to have MAMA bring them to the eyeglass store. Now my glasses are fixed.

Honestly. Halfway through the album I was looked to see how many songs were left. It was super boring to me and not my jam.

Too light and fluffy for me. I love early Bob / Wailers, but this sounds overdone and over-produced. I should probably read the lyrics more closely, but I still don't 'get' No Woman No Cry. No, YOU Lively Up Yourself.

I really don't like (this?) reggae. Sounds like simplistic (and stupid) children's music, and endlessly derivative of the same ingredients. I don't like Marley's voice, or the horrible backing singing, or the pidgin lyrics. Just fucking sucks

This is another music genre I don't get and not a fan. Maybe good background music, for sitting by the ocean, drinking a frozen Pina colada and smoking a nice, skunk smelling joint. But I'm in my office and thought this is not very good. I'll give it a 1 because his son was a pretty good linebacker at the school of convicts, Miami Florida. Suck it Canes.
