Reviews (page 14 of 15)
I like some of it but then there is the element of noise for noise sake that I don't like. The music is enjoyable (most of the time) the vocals aren't my style (a lot of the time)
the tiktok song! jk this album is everywhere
This is what I envision people hearing when they say my music is "noise". I guess I'm old, but I did not find this super appealing. A lot of sonic sound and zero interesting lyrics. I didn't hate it, but I didn't enjoy it. Fav track: Where Is My Mind?
BL: the pixies are a band I’m only really aware of for “where is my mind” and “Monkey gone to heaven” the former of which I have some pretty negative associations with unpleasant people I used to know and the whole fight club chud male boys that haunt me as someone who works in an industry full of them. It’ll be good to hopefully create some more positive connotation with this band AL: this album was a swing and a miss for me. Maybe it’s because it’s always going to be tied to some horrible times in my life, however “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” by The Smashing Pumpkins was from the same friend group and the same time period in my own life and I still fondly listen to that. Therefore I’ve come to the conclusion while sonically there were some interesting ideas, this album didn’t do too much for me. FT: “Something About You”, “Gigantic” 2/5
So much pixie. Some tracks were nostalgic, dyone were bland or irritating
Where is your mind är ju en fyra iaf
It was alright
Very noisy
Just too punk and noisy for me, except where is my mind
I’m quite sure there was a place and a time for this album. Having missed out on that time and place makes listening to this album for the first time a rather miserable experience. There are sections here and there where songs begin to sound pleasing, but those moments are seemingly intentionally ruined - if nothing else then by the absolutely atrocious vocals. I’m confident that they sound as they do intentionally, but that to me only makes it worse.
Favorites were "Break My Body", "Where Is My Mind" and "Oh My Golly!". I didn't exactly like the lyrics - mostly because i could barely hear them and didn't feel like blasting my ears to be able to understand. I realized it was punk rock 30 seconds in and the overall sound did not surprise me, that is, if I take into account the album is 30 years old and a lot of older punk feel 'loud' just for the sake of being loud. Will give two stars because I think I would really jam to the songs I mentioned if they came up at the right time.
Known Before: Band Standouts: 4.5
can't say i enjoyed this one too much as a whole but still kinda cool very questionable lyrics lol where is my mind is one of the most recognizable tunes that i never knew the origin of favorites: gigantic, where is my mind
Love the beat and energy. Lyrics are enigmatic. Wanted to really like this album but it was a cross between engaging and WTF. Would be fun in concert.
Longest 30 minutes of my life
I thought some of it was really interesting, but I didn't love most of the wailing kind of singing. Some songs were incredible, some I just didn't enjoy listening to, so kind of inconsistent. Fav songs: where is my mind?, gigantic
1..5, they must have taken quite some drugs to write this. Where is my mind is mainly enjoyable because it wakes the memories of Fight Club.
not my thing but well made :)
one and a half good songs, where is my mind and tommys theme. rest is cringy trash
Laulu tyyli ja ääni rasitti Where is my mind on kummiskin tällä levyllä
Naa, no likey Fav: where is my mind?
All filler, some killer. The good songs are extremely good but the rest is the definition of album track
Not my vibe!
Not for me
My relationship with Pixies is becoming quite complicated. On the surface, it seems like I should like this a lot more than I do. But so much of what they do, vocally in particular, just feels weird for the sake of being weird. Favorite track: Bone Machine
I can appreciate how impactful this record was in 1988 for the eventual grunge/indie scene, but aside from a few bright spots, it felt a bit uninspired to me. I might need to give it a few more listens before passing judgement, though.
Some interesting ideas and phrasings peppered throughout the album. Generally a tad bland. Very straightforward instrumentation.
Not my favorite album. I was excited for this because I really enjoyed doolittle but this wasnt doing it for me. Too much noise and feral screaming for me. Where is my mind was great tho. No wonder its the standalone hit from the album
I missed the Pixies in the 80s, and I’m not so sad about that. The sound is distinctive and I can appreciate the craft, but it isn’t music that moves me body or soul.
Where is my mind? and Cactus are ok. Don't like the others. Too chaotic for my taste and the vocals are not my cup of tea. Rating: 1 -S I liked 2 songs of the album but its very inconsistent and sometimes too experimental. -A
This album just did not strike me.
Probably something for guitar lovers. Good grove and something new happening on every track, but it didn’t appeal to me.
I understand why only one song is still talked about
I like the Pixies (was actually introduced through this challenge), but I really did not enjoy this album. I’ll have to go back to the others to compare and figure out why, but listening to this nearly five times in a row, while doing tasks, it was not the greatest. Listen again: no Purchase for my collection: no Favourite Song:
Ok album, wouldn’t listen to it again
This was pretty rough. Really liked the other pixies album but only really enjoyed one song on this one
Mulla on ehkä irrationaalinen Pixies-viha, joten se vähän värittää kuuntelua. Tää on kyllä bändin parhaimmistoa, Where is my mind on täyttä ysärifiilistä. Ei kuitenkaan jätä levynä mitään makua suuhun, vaikka tosissaan tätä on selvästi tehty. Vähän tylsä.
Kunnioitettava yritys luoda kokeilullisesta näkökulmasta jotain muutakin kuin kivaa ääntä. Silti hieman liian suuri pala purtavaksi.
Where Is My Mind offered a glimpse of what a good early grunge album this could have been, but there was still room for improvements to the lyrics and vocals. The rest simply didnt cut the mustard
This album was alright. Some punk sounds to it, but not entirely punk. Some parts shred, some parts didn't. Didn't listen to this one too closely. Tony's Theme would be a great song to listen to if you have a friend named Tony who warranted a theme song. TOE - NAY!
Where is my mind is a great song. The rest of the album not so much. A little too disorganized and shouty for me.
This is hard. I LOVE where is my mind, but lord this album was bad. It sounded like generic counter culture punk rock. DNF.
It was okay
Maybe one for the teenagers amongst us
I knew that one song but that was it…
Yeah, an okay album overall. Where is My Mind came out of nowhere, nice surprise. Felt like I was listening to a band jam throughout.
Not my jam. Given the right listening circumstances, I could probably get to 3.
Not great, like the album cover more than the music
(2) Этот альбом — сплошная нелепость, которая срабатывает лишь один раз, на "Where Is My Mind?". Только за "Where Is My Mind?".
Hmm.... not really clicking with me yet. Has some funny moments with its wacky atmosphere, but overall nothing I remember. Except for Where Is My Mind, which I'ved heard before.
Well aside from the one hit off this record, it did not offer up much. Noisy tunes with no interesting melodic content in my opinion.
It was fine. Heavier that I generally like.
One to the only song that is actually good. And another one to vibe
Where is my Mind is my favorite. 2. Ok but probably won't listen again or buy.
Not as shouty as the previous album, but I still don't like it.
2- solo lo salva Where is my mind
I honestly don't know what grunge is exactly, but I would probably point to this album if asked for a grunge album. I really am not liking this. The main and supporting vocalists are very annoying to listen to (for me). The backing music is alright, but nothing special. So far this just sounds like dirty, whiney industrial rock. I could see some of these songs being in a skate video/montage or a skateboarding-themed video game. This is a 2/5 for me
umm yea i don't think so. vocalist sometimes sounds like 14 year old seinfeld with the same vocal talent.
I feel like I'm uncool for not liking the Pixies, but I just don't get the appeal. 2 stars.
Ehhh I liked a couple of songs but not all of the album.
Terrible vocals. Far too shouty.
Herrie. Where is my mind is wel fantastisch!
Ugh, horrible noise. Saved from 1 star by Where is my Mind and the cover art.
I wanted to like this. It had sounds of early ska at times. But it was noisy and not a very pleasant sound overall.
Still meh.
Interesting for 1988. Not bad, but not something that reached out and grabbed me either.
Bad album. Not a big fan of the Pixies
Too rowdy for me
Wasn't for me but had some nice Trax
1 note wonders
I did not caliiiiiiiiic with this album at all.
Boring, repetitive
I really wanted to like this. Unfortunately I didn't. Just way to harsh sounding for me.
More of this? Feel we've been bombarded with non-melodic sludge. Several songs sound identical.
Pixies' debut album. Lo fi garage rock. Apparently influenced Nirvana. I can tell. Did not love this. Rating: 2/5 Playlist track: Where Is My Mind Date listened: 28/10/22
I want to vibe with this, but I just don't
Although I've always meant to listen to the Pixies, I've never really done it intentionally before. Going into this album, the only song I was familiar with was Where Is My Mind?, which I like. It didn't turn out to be what I expected, and therefore, I must admit I was a little disappointed. Maybe it will grow on me, but for now, I don't entirely get the hype.
Okay this one is very special, I had a very hard time with the start of the album... Despite being remastered the voices sounded so bad compared to the instruments... The last part of the album is 10x better to hear than the first part in my opinion.... So I will go with a 2.5/5 as I did not like the start at all but the rest was pretty OK. Special mentiom for some instrumentals that are really nice but the vocals did not do it for me...
A lot of noise and which can be interesting to some but I found it obnoxious at times, a couple of good songs on the album though.
Awful
Shouty. Drummer seens like that are referred above anyone else in the band so that won't mix in nicely.
There were definitely some elements I appreciated on this album, but I just can't say I enjoyed it. And I know I enjoyed it less than the Pixies' album Doolittle (which was given the dreaded label "accessible"). Perhaps it was just my nerves today, because this generally got on them. I did like "Gigantic" well enough, and "Tony's Theme" kind of made me laugh. I think there might be days where I'd like this more today was not one of them.
That album would be tolerable if they could actually sing.
A extremely generous 2⭐️ purely on the strength of Gigantic and Where Is My Mind. A load of auld toot.
this was an okay album. it was the second pixies album as part of this project, and while they don’t make terrible music, it doesn’t seem that engaging for me. i can say they have the most wide ranging, weird subject matters for their lyrics. the banter is a cute addition in a few songs! i don’t know if that’s overdone nowadays but i do always find it charming to get a slice of the real artist on the album.
Skränigt men ikoniskt
big trash
HL: WIMM, Brick is Red, River Euphrates Mixed feelings about this one- can understand and hear the influence on other alt rock bands, but uh it felt longer than 34 minutes August 11, 2022
Muutama hauska biisi, joista yksi ja ilmeisin tietty todella kova. Kokonaisuutena ei kuitenkaan jäänyt mieleen
Felt loose and sort of unfinished. odd chorus counts, awkwardly long versus's, weird tone or volume shifts. I like alternative rock, this too uncooridnated for me though. Giving it a two just because there were some riffs and drum cycles I liked.
Noise with 1 good song
I went into this with high hopes and listened 5 times because I’ve known about this album’s reputation for being raw and unforgiving but even still I was taken aback. This album influenced an ENTIRE generation of people to do whatever the fuck they wanted with music and it’s over my head. It is extremely raw, I actually like the production because of how unapologetic it is. But musically it’s a hard listen. Where is my mind is a 10/10 track and feels like a surreal oasis in an otherwise desert of unfinished tracks. It sounds like many openers I’ve seen live that just aren’t ready yet, but maybe that’s the charm?
One of the few bands I cannot get into
Punkig. Uffgeregt.
Weird. Where is my mind is a great song. But I dont think i get the rest. Lo-fi
Eh
Save yourself some pain and listen to Death to the Pixies
I like "Where is my mind?" but it is not gonna save this clusterfuck of sounds.
Underwhelming
Wow, this is a disappointment. I'd been looking forward to this given its revered status, but I'm left with a feeling of emperor's new clothes about the whole experience. I will say this - I appreciate the animating spirit, and I think the instruments themselves really pop out of the speakers. It crackles with vitality, but the execution is wanting. Really simple song structures that pretty much go quiet-loud-quiet-loud. I've read a fair bit about Surfer Rosa and will seek out some more reviews as I want to be clued into what I'm missing.
This is not very good. At all.
I know I've said this before but this late 80s noise rock/alternative/garage punk/not-anywhere-near-as-good-as-grunge stuff really isn't for me. It feels like an entire movement headed by people who couldn't play instruments, and that not being able to play was the core part of it - "make your lack of ability work for you" seems to be the order of the day. Which would be admirable if I liked the end result... but I don't. Pretty cool that it has tits on the cover though. 2/5.
The alt-rock is strong with this one. The album tries too hard to be lound and raw, but only succeeds in becoming somewhat predictable. The obvious standout is "Where Is My Mind?". The rest? Boring. 2/5
Not really into it just sounds generic
Best Song: Where is My Mind? Obviously the most well-known track on the album, it also feels like the most (only?) that was really constructed as a thoughtful song. Worst Song: Broken Face. A chorus that seems designed to annoy. Overall: Chaotic, spastic, and not in a good way. The kind of music that feels like it would be fun to listen to and bounce around with at a grime-y live show, but as a piece of written and recorded music? Meh.
Eh
One or two songs I enjoyed. Knew iwasn't a fan of the pixies
This is some okay alternative rock. No recognized songs
Kmew one song, rest is kinda eh
I've heard a handful of tracks but never heard a full album from the Pixies. "Where is My Mind?" might be my favorite track from the band. There are portions of the album that I like, but enough tracks sink this album to 2 stars.
Knappe 2.1
Tjoa, gar nicht mal so gut. 'Where is my Mind' ist echt gut, aber besonders danach hört‘s schon auf.
Fels longer than the half hour it is. It does have its moments but it actually is only “the album from were is my mind is taken” and that’s it. Pixies are not as good as everyone thinks even if they have some of the greatest rock songs ever
I was not familiar with the band or any of the songs prior to listening to this album. I don't see a reason to listen to it again.
I respect their influence on bands I like from the 90s, and there are aspects of classic punk I love, but it’s a bit too raw and underdeveloped for my enjoyment.
Just too raw, loud, noisy
indie grunge not my cuppa tea
Average album but features classic song
I don't understand how this was so influential. I love this style, raw and unpolished, and the drums sound so good. But most songs don't even seem like they have a plan (except for Where Is My Mind). This sounds like a rehearsal/brainstorm, not a finished record.
Not a huge fan of the Pixies, but this album had a good amount of variety so there were a couple of songs i vibed with
Wish I liked them more
I had friends of the Hot Topic persuasion in middle school and high school who liked the Pixies. Not my favorite overall, but I always liked Gigantic (though the version I knew might have been a cover), and Where Is My Mind is a classic.
Takes me back to Hot Topic in the early 2000s, even though it's 12 years after the album came out. Getting a bit of a Primus vibe from the end of the album. Interesting that Where Is My Mind? sounds nothing like the rest of the album. That's the only really outstanding song.
WHERE IS MY MIND, c’est fort et planant.
Not for me. I’m not a fan of this type of music.
Is it punk, is it guitar sound, is it lyric ... ??
Eh, some good. A lot specific tracks to listening
raw twangy
Meh.
Too whiny for me. Some obvious influence on early grunge.
Het is dat where is my mind er op staat, jezus
A couple of nice songs but overall just dropped the ball on a lot of them. Bits in between the songs where just dreadful.
Other than "Where is my Mind?" not for us. Too loud and too fast. I've never felt older.
Только "Where is my mind"
If I could rate an album 0 stars, this would be one of the few. The only Pixies song I'm familiar with is "Where Is My Mind?", and it's not a song I enjoy. And after listening to the entire album (because I do try to have an open mind) I have no desire to ever listen to the Pixies again. I don't get the hype, I don't like the singing, I don't like the lyrics. The only part of the instrumentation I like are the bass lines. As far as bassists go, and especially when talking about the 90s alt-rock scene, Kim Deal is underrated and deserves more recognition for her skills. And that's the only positive commentary I have for this album and the band.
Not my thing. There were only a few moments on this album that I enjoyed (they have a few little tricks at the beginnings of some songs that seem like they would set up a good vibe but it mostly gets dropped) and the rest of the time I felt rather weary and bored. Probably better live or really loud, I first started listening to this on the train rather quiet in one earbud and it sounded pretty bad so I put in two and turned it up to a healthy volume and that helped. Let the record show that I committed a medium amount. Where is my mind is good but I already knew and liked that one so I think it's got familiarity on its side. In all sincerity I wish they would have just barked like dogs for the whole album, I honestly think they would be really good at that and that's the kind of record I would love to listen to in the gym it would get me so fucking hyped up please pixies if you read this I'm sorry for saying all the other mean things in this review please give me this. Listened to debaser again after this album on repeat just to affirm that the pixies can make good music. I've been wanting to give out a one because I like the pretty red color, so I appreciate that Lez out score: we just had this one and I think I gave them a 2 probably. If they lezzed out I would be rather uninterested in the spectacle. Devastating. Bark like dogs and I'll change this rating so fast it'll make your head spin
Onpahan ankeeta menoa, ranteet vetäis auki jos joutuis toisen kerran kuuntelemaan. Ei ees kansikuva pelasta.
not tot me
I get that this influenced albums like Nevermind and the whole grunge scene, but I just didn’t like it. There wss not a song that I would want to listen to again.
Not bad.
Nope
An unlistenable mess. Where Is My Mind is the only good thing on the album and I liked it less in context with the rest of it. Fucken terrible. I'm surprised by how much I didn't like this.
There's like one good song on this thing, "Where Is My Mind?". The rest just isn't good. 1.5 stars, rounded down.
This shit is ASS
i hate this album
didn't like it aside from a couple songs
No me gustó nada. Where is my mind, el mas escuchado, lo recontra conozco. No sabia q era de ellos. Lo unico rescatable (y hasta ahí). Horrible
Knew one song that I was not aware was by the Pixies. Not really my style of music.
1.4/5 Not sure what everyone else hears in this album but I don't get it. A couple of good songs but it just seems a mess.
Really didn’t like this, it felt completely jumbled. Feels like they spent the album stumbling into some good parts on where is my mind and retreating back into whiny unfunny harsh noise
Nope.
Was not really a fan of any of it
Not for me, quite chaotic and discordant to listen to.
Doolittle came up first for me and I couldn't recall why I disliked the Pixies, listening to this album brought it all back. Musically, it's not bad, but the vocals strip all my enjoyment out of the experience. Just weird for weird's sake, I hate it.
2/10 I couldn't get into this one at all. Ok at times, but mostly unpleasant to listen to. One positive is that I like the raw, unprocessed sound of the drums. Overall not an enjoyable listen for me. Best track: Where Is My Mind? Will I revisit? No
Ni es mi tipo de banda
No me gustó
Garbage album. The only good song is the one everyone already knows so it definitely felt bad that all the others sucked.
Not to my liking
Not the biggest fan of music that sounds like they're genuinely ripping out their vocal chords to sound different. Grunge is not and will never be my scene. Also, Where Is my mind just sounds flat and out of tune
Bad garage band music. I don't get it.
I don’t like it
Not sure who let him sing... were all the other instruments taken? I think Fight Club edits containing Where Is My Mind is about enough of the Pixies I will ever need to listen to again.
Not my cup of tea.
It's really not my kind of music.
favs: where is my mind? rating 0.4/5
Probably should somehow, but just can't...
Unpleasant noise ≠ music 1
First...Boobies. Second. Oh My Golly and Thank the goddess of headphones this screatchy squeaky madness was only 33 minutes. That is all.
Grating.
Wow. I hate the Pixies. Like…. Wow. I spent every minute of this album wishing it would end.
Not a fan of real rock, I like mine softer.
I didn't enjoy this album. I didn't like how the vocals were processed and balanced, I didn't like their delivery, I thought the guitars were too loud in the mix, I didn't like the guitar writing or performances (it sounded like squealing rather than something musically cohesive.) The single thing I did like was the drum production.
What a shock- that sucked.
Honestly this was almost a DNF, despite how short the album is. I work as a call handler and listen to music inbetween calls, its common that i’ll put off calling a client to get to the end of a good song, with this album i found i was calling out more frequent than normal just for a break from the noise. I feel like this album had the elements of a good album. I like how experimental it is however unfortunately not all experiments work out in life, this album is proof. One thing I will say is that you can definitely hear the influence that this album has had on music thats come after it, and for that I applaud it.
Pretty unlistenable in places , just sounded like garage music most of time Ohh that’s right shite
This is deeply weird, which I guess is the point, but this is not for me. There are moments that almost work. “Gigantic” stands out because it’s melodic and actually feels structured. And yes, “Where Is My Mind?” is atmospheric and memorable. But outside of those highlights, a lot of the album feels chaotic for the sake of being chaotic. The screaming, sudden shifts, and strange lyrical choices don’t always come across as artistic, sometimes they're just bad.
Sounded terrible, honestly. Stumped because I knew all the words to Gigantic but have definitely never heard the Pixies version and cannot find any cover......
I did not enjoy this sound one bit.
The only reason to listen to this album is where’s my mind
Horrible noise!
Awful. -12 stars.
Grusomt.
Stopped listening after the first three songs. Respect all music, but no.
Not to be a hater, but I really didn't enjoy this one.... it just felt like noise. I'll probably never listen to this again.
Instruments good, lyrics meh
Only like 'Where is my mind'. Grew up with it
Nope. Not for me.
i was obsessed with where is my mind? in high school but i had never listened to this album in full. after listening to it a couple times through, i just couldn’t get into it unfortunately. i’ll probably give it another try at some point. but for now… not my favorite.
Never been into rock so this album is a bunch of noise and screaming to me. Dnf.
Nope
this is honestly unlistenable for me. his voice is so painful i can’t listen to the rest 😭 1/10 (only 1/10 bc of where is my mind)
Happy that I listened to this, because if I truly have to listen to all of these albums before I die, then the rest of my life will be blissfully and cognizantly void of this album.
This misses the mark for me unfortunately.
I’m sure it’s somebody’s thing. Just not mine
Not huge on the pixies
Not good at all.
Not really sure how to describe this. I'd never heard any Pixies tracks before and after this I won't be seeking any out in future. Musically mostly fairly easy to listen to but also relatively simple - repeating chords and simple drums. The vocals are where I gave up. Just too weird for me. The lyrics didn't make any kind of sense and the singing style was just too strange.
There's not a single song on this album that I would not skip.
minus one point to my personality for not liking this album :/
It sounds like the few band students you knew in high school got together to make an official band but they lost their lead singer and the guitarist became the vocalist. At least it has tits on the album cover, it gets +.001 stars for that.
Would give it a 0 if I could. Terrible songwriting and awful performances. Where is my mind is a good song but the rest is downright insulting. Actually have me a headache.
I've heard bands that I like say Pixies were an influence.....couldn't possibly be from this album.
Terrible. 1/5.
Interesting listen. I wouldn't listen to this again. Fuck this album.
Post punk average rock
One great song, but did not like the album at all.
Did not like at all
Not for me
dogshit
One good song
God, I hate the Pixes.
Alternative rock. I didn’t like it. I didn’t like the vocalist, didn’t like how noisy it was.
Bleh.
Too much unnecessary yelling and profanity in some of the songs. Did not care for the music.
Not my music and the vocals are not great.
Absolutely not my style. 1 star.
Got about half way through so better than some
Musically, I like the sound. But I really am not a fan of the singers or the lyrics. I'm sure there is a historical reason they are on this list of must-hear music. But without a music history lesson. It's tough to listen to.
1/5
Gratingggggg - except for Where Is My Mind? which is good, of course.
I guess people like this shit. Sounds like unorganized whiney chaos just to be counter culture for the sake of being different. Not once did I think "Man, at least there's a lot of talent on the instruments." The vocals are fingernails on a chalk board, the whole album is that imo. Not my shit at all.
It's almost as if the band got together and said, "let's be weird". It does not feel organic. It seems like a great effort. And to name their album after the worst song on it. More than a few confusing decisions made on this record.
I've really only ever liked one or two songs by the Pixies, and this just reconfirms my feelings. Not for me.
This went from, "oh this could be good and fun" to "what the fuck" real quick. Where Is My Mind is the only saving grace, and even that has been remixed to be better! Very happy these songs were short.
Terrible
This is what a schizoid identity crisis sounds like. If that is your thing, fill yer boots. Not for me.
Man, I love the Pixies so much, wait no, man, I can't wait to hear them ever again in my life. What rubbish! Sounds like a noisy mess of blah and trash, like crappy punk music. Also, how does Where Is My Mind? have over 1 billion plays on Spotify? Do people listen to it with their ears turned off?
Obnoxious fairies
didnt like the genre or the overall music
Glad it was only 33 mins. Mix was all over the place, guitar masturbation and garage band quality. Over all, a tough listen.
I never liked the pixies, still don’t. Probably won’t.
Just not my style
Basically unlistenable
I'm just not sure the Pixies are for me. They're fine. Except for Where is My Mind? That's a good one.
Dunno if it's just my age, but it's just noise to me. After a track and a half, I skipped to the one song I'd heard of to see if it might explain why the Pixies had achieved a place on this list. It gave a little redemption, but can't say I'd ever listen to this album all the way through
Only one good song
Hardcore/punk garage rock. Precursor to the grunge movement. Tough listen. Drums sound like they were actually recorded in a garage even though he keeps good time. Not an impressive display of musicianship. Kim deal went on to better things. Decent three song stretch in the middle.
This record is downright awful from beginning to end, the only exception being „Where's my mind?“. Whats the point about out of tune singing and playing? I don't like producer Steve Albini's sound design anyway - the dry guitar sound in particular. It's good to be remembered why I sold this many years ago. The real question is: Why is this piece of trash part of the book? I strongly feel some editing is required.
One or two good songs but consider this vote a protest against a THIRD Pixies album
A very strong contender for the worst garbage I have ever heard. Self indulgent noise. And I expected to love this LOL.
Hurt my ears
Sounds live with lots of yelling from relatively untalented singers. 1/5
What a disappointing album seeing as where is my mind is an all time favorite of mine.
Angsty, trashy, and sloppy. Irritating. Good to have the context for "Where is My Mind?" though.
Not for me
Wat een fucking horror. Something Against You is gewoon herrie. The Pixies?
Just couldn’t get into it , indie rock has been changing my opinion of it throughout this journey but this one just didn’t move the needle for me , heard it a few times moving on
Last song and like one other song were decent, rest of it were bad. 1.5/5
Tetas fartas/10
starting this ablum, im remembering that i dont love pixies, they have some bangers but the full on rock vibes arent great, skipped through a song or two at the beginning. not super my thing i cant lie, skipping through most of the songs fun bassline on gigantic from gigantic i am enjoying this album more, the music is slower paced and a bit more interesting, less "rockrock" and a bit more laid back. where is my mind? is an aboslute classic though, i cant fault this song, love playing it, love listening to it. i think theres a few songs in there, from gigantic to like tonys theme that are a bit more fun. had to stop the album early, skipping songs, not a fan but theres some goodies in there.
1/5
1/5. Only song which was good is where is my mind. The other songs just feel like shouting and chaos
Painful
Not for me at all. Style of singing just did not do it for me, neither did the lyrics or just the vibe at all
Whoever decided on their levels should be smacked. But on the other hand a debut album is a debut album in all aspects.
If this album was trying to crawl it's way out of a sarlacc pit labeled "Excruciating", it's trying it's hardest but only can manage a hand up to the surface. Overall a terrible time listening, but there were a few seconds of decent music in here that were then taken over by the rest that is irredeemable.
Bad production, poor musicianship, whining vocals. Bad stuff.
1/2
Ei toiminut sitten yhtään. Ei.
Um I don't get it
I would like them to stop doing whatever it is that they're doing
Im really not into the Pixies. Somehow I find the album to noisy and unsynched. But that one track "Where is my mind?": Absolutly freaking brilliant!
Loud guitars and screaming is overrated.
- Bossanova hat mir doch deutlich besser gefallen - einzig "Where Is My Mind?" ist hängengeblieben, wobei man ich den Hit vorher schon kannte 1,5/5⭐
nää
Not for me
No thanks
Not for me. It's certainly interesting but I wouldn't want this in my collection as I would not listen a second time.
My third Pixies album ...still don't like their music.
Very poor discordant not to my taste
Absolutely horrid, noisy instrumentals with screamy vocals over the top
The music was quite good, but the vocals were awful in my opinion.
1/5. Painfully hard to listen to
Ehhhhhh, for me it's a hit or miss for 90s rock or alternative, or watwber genre this is. This was a miss
Fürchterlicher Krach.
Boo
Noise
Gefällt mir nicht.
Not the best album I've listened to. Some of it is just like wtf specifically river euphrates..
not my jam but i'd understand if its urs
Nicht meine Richtung
I like some Pixies stuff but this is not my fave
Just a lot of noise. I did not like any of the songs.
Not for me. Where Is My Mind is alright, the rest of the album was rough...
Where’s my mind was the only one I really liked and I think the covers better
Not my cup of tea. Too chaotic
Didn’t care for this one at all. Tried a few songs and gave up.
