I knew that one song but that was it…
I can appreciate this on some level, but I’d never go out of my way to listen to it.
It was okay, but nothing special.
Another day, another 4 star album. Its been a while since I last listened to this album and I've forgotten how good it is. Gigantic, Bone Machine, Where is my Mind, all classic pixies songs. I'm going with a high four, because doolittle is better, but this is great
The highs are high on this one but overall it's kinda raw and has some real stinkers. Shout out Jim's old boss Tony who rides a bicycle and wears superhero shirts.
I don’t remember enjoying this album as much the first time I listened to it. But i really enjoyed it this time. Could be mood related but it’s getting a 4. random note: maybe 2 months ago i came across “where is my mind” on shuffle and forgot how much i loved it and been tossing it in various playlist lately. so this could be factoring in my high rating for this album
Yeah, an okay album overall. Where is My Mind came out of nowhere, nice surprise. Felt like I was listening to a band jam throughout.

I love Pixies so much, they're pretty punk but they respect melody. Not their strongest album but im definitely a fan of Surfer Rosa. Where Is My Mind is a 10/10 song. Nice of Mickey Mouse to make an appearance on Poker Face.
So sick of these guys. The singer sucks and the weird dissonant guitar hammering they do just gets on my nerves

Body parts rock
This album was legitimately ahead of its time. Nothing about "Surfer Rosa" sounds like it was released in 1988. The music industry was still in the grips of plastic pop idols in '88. Yet, here you can hear the roots of legit garage-rock grunge creeping in. This is the leading edge of the shifting tide that gave us Nirvana. And it's good. Is it noisy and weird? Well, yes. This is post-punk, after all. But it's still good. Really good.
2nd listen. My favorite Pixies albums are Doolittle and Bossanova, but I like this one too. Not sure what my favorite song is from it. This is a short review for 5 stars, but there’s not much to say about it.
This is one of the handful of 5-star albums that I have been looking forward to and the first to come up on my list. A most excellent album, and my favourite Pixies album by far. An excellent album, even though they had an idiot of a producer and this wasn't a massive hit when it was first released. Looking back, this is an interesting album, it has some of the signs of what was to come later, more refined, but ultimately a bit more boring. Along with the surfer rock/ punk combination, there's shades of the Velvet Underground here and there. Fantastic melodies, interesting strong structures, amazing sound. Nobody really stands out above the pack in this album, it's a definite team album, with the whole standing way above the sum of its parts. This is also a very short album, just over 30 minutes of excellence.

Really enjoyed this one. I occasionally veered into 'noisy' territory, but for the most part it was just the right amount of loud and messy guitars + drums. Love that it caps off at 33 minutes too, never overstaying its welcome. Standouts are Bone Machine, Cactus, and Where is My Mind.
Brilliant alt rock album, but personally I prefer Doolittle, so not quiet the full marks from me.

Amazing album
Man this is a good album. The classic quiet-loud dynamic and the vocal interplay are excellent. Neither of which would matter if the production and mixing weren’t so spot on.
This is one of the craziest albums I’ve ever heard. Like it is pretty much indescribable. Nonetheless I’ll try my best to describe it. This is essentially garage rock from the 70s mixed with avant garde lyrics and musical choices that really just takes punk to a whole different meaning. There’s some Mexican folk influences and noise rock influences but it cannot truly be described. This album sounds like it influences a number of grunge bands like the Smashing Pumpkins (I know they changed their sound but their early stuff is definitely grunge) and Bleach era Nirvana, among other bands, but that’s what I picked up the most. This album is truly something else. This avant-punk record really defines what grunge and punk music is to me personally. A great album and groundbreaking album; a 10/10 from me.

Hmm.... not really clicking with me yet. Has some funny moments with its wacky atmosphere, but overall nothing I remember. Except for Where Is My Mind, which I'ved heard before.
I wanted to like it because it is cited as an influence by many. But I don't like it. I can't even bring myself to give it another chance because it was so unpleasant to listen to.

Highlights: "River Euphrates," "Where Is My Mind," "Gigantic," "Broken Face" Pixies on top of their formula: odd measures of even beats to keep the song moving, intense vocals, minimal and dissonant riffs and hooks. The production has the rawness of a demo while sneaking in effective touches like overdubbing pans of Black's different takes of screams or a final warp of modulation. Even though they owe a ton to Violent Femmes, this is the rise of that band's vicarious influence over all of rock. Just not quite at the peak of Doolittle.
Not bad, but I would not say I enjoyed it. Of course, "Where Is My Mind?" is pretty good.

Well aside from the one hit off this record, it did not offer up much. Noisy tunes with no interesting melodic content in my opinion.
I liked this, punk, indie sort of pre-grunge. Gigantic, and Where is My Mind are good tracks off this album. I had read that Kurt Cobain was heavily influenced by the Pixies, I can hear it in a lot of the guitar, and some of the way the vocals are sung. Basically without this, Nirvana wouldn't sound the same

Very interesting sound for the time, sitting at sort of an inbetween of punk rock before it and preceding jammier post-punk, ska, and alt rock bands of the 90s like The Offspring and The Presidents of the United States of America. Also features the Pixies’ major hit Where Is My Mind, a classic of it’s time.
It was fine. Heavier that I generally like.
I want to be cool enough to love the Pixies but I just can't get there. Not entirely unlistenable as it goes on, though the beginning is rough. If I squint I can even see why other people love it. When the different noisy elements and dramatic dynamic contrast comes together well, like Where Is My Mind, it really works. But to me there are a more misses than hits here. That said I did enjoy it more than the last Pixies the generator gave me. Maybe they're wearing me down.
How in sweet Jesus did I pull two Pixies albums before a single month has passed? Bizarre circumstances aside ... I don't know if it is because I am now used to Doolittle's bullshittery (affectionate), but I found Surfer Rosa an easier venture to sink my teeth into. The music on this album doesn't overstay its welcome, something of which I surely appreciate - being abrasive and loud and cacophonous as it is. The one song I couldn't stand also happened to be the shortest on the album, so there's that going for it too. While most of the highs aren't as impressive as Doolittle's, most of the lows aren't as miserable to me either.
On a bit of a roll here, five 5s in a row! This is another of my favourites from my teenage years, such raw energy and great songwriting on here. Quite unhinged and funny in places too. I really don't think music today would be the same without this album and Doolittle. Favourite songs: Bone Machine, Gigantic, River Euphrates, Where is My Mind.
34 minutes of sheer perfection. I've been listening to and loving this album for years and for some reason, it hit even harder today and I needed to listen twice through. Insane.

Loved Doolittle but not this one.
Another album where the songs I already knew are amazing and the other tracks... less so. Also another album which was enough before my time that I never got into it but close enough that I can hear the influence in so much stuff I did get into. One of the biggest things I can hear in this record however, is Steve Albini. Half way through this, the strength of the good stuff was enough to make this a 4 but by the end I've tired of the intentionally provocative sound enough drop it to a 3

Yeah, this is a solid album. It's got hits and pretty much every song is good. This would be a 4.5 stars if that were an option.

This was a decent album and had pixies best song with where is my minds. Enjoyed Doolittle and this one pretty much equally. Feel like Pixies were a good band that I missed out on due to being shut before my time and having bands come after them that are more refined and my style. All in all this is a good album and I’d relisten to it. 7.3/10

Surfer Rosa has some really good and some other generally good, an easy 3 pushed to a 4 by Where Is My Mind.
I like this, but I don't love it. Where is My Mind and Gigantic are amazing, but the rest is only a little notch above OK, I think. Of the three we've had, I'd put this better than Bossanova, but not as good as Doolittle - so the top end of a 3. Could elevate it to a 4 given that it's their debut and it's clearly a bit of a game-changer more broadly, but I'm not going to, it's still too tuneless and shouty in places to deserve that. 3/5.
Except for Where is my mind, the rest of the album is exhausting.
Where Is My Mind is a stunning song, but I find the rest of this album to be a fairly tuneless screechy affair, less about actual songs than being offbeat and off-kilter.

Frank Black created a whole new genre with Surfer Rosa. The Alternative / Grunge genre is more famous for starting in the 90s with Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Pixies pushes that needle a little further left. To 1988. 4/5.
I honestly don't know what grunge is exactly, but I would probably point to this album if asked for a grunge album. I really am not liking this. The main and supporting vocalists are very annoying to listen to (for me). The backing music is alright, but nothing special. So far this just sounds like dirty, whiney industrial rock. I could see some of these songs being in a skate video/montage or a skateboarding-themed video game. This is a 2/5 for me

This album is absolutely insane but also amazing. Songs with a more normal structure like ‘Gigantic’ and ‘Where is My Mind?’ ground the album and give you some breaks from the ones that are super crazy like ‘Something Against You’, ‘Broken Face’, and ‘Oh My Golly!’. It adds up to a frenetic and extremely unique album.
I feel like I'm uncool for not liking the Pixies, but I just don't get the appeal. 2 stars.

This was okay, maybe two or three were worth listening to a second time. However did not know that the track, Cactus, was originally by The Pixies. I was first introduced to that song on David Bowie's album, Heathen.
Finally the Pixies! This one had everything: exciting rhythms, brilliant shouting of Black Francis short addictive songs. Weird lyrics. And Kim Deal singing Gigantic. Top of the bill. Three reasons I call one of my cats Rosa. Rosa Luxemburg, Rosa Parks and of course Surfer Rosa.
Liked the album. Starts out strong and then keeps going strong. Would definitely listen to it again

Something Against You is the track that hooks me in the beginning. Broken Face into Gigantic is pretty cool. Where Is My Mind is a total banger. I totally understand how this laid the groundwork for grunge's mainstream explosion.
Kurt Cobain on said that this band was a big inspiration for Nirvana. And it’s very evident that this was a band Nirvana modeled themselves after, especially when put up against Nirvana’s debut record, Bleach. I really liked this album, much better than anything nirvana put out actually, but when isn’t the original better than the remake?
I'm going to give this one 5 stars. I'm going to say it's in the top 5 of greatest albums of the '80s. And then I'm going to say Doolittle is better. Man I love this band.
My mind’s right here, and it’s landed on “Surfer So-Sosa.”
This is foundation. I can't decide if Surfer Rosa or Doolittle is better... I suppose it depends on my mood. But at this point (2023), I find it hard to believe this album was released in 1988. To me, this album had the cultural shock impact of an album like Jane's Addiction's Ritual de lo Habitual, but two years earlier. Every track on this album is a gem.
Really solid album. Love the big sounding drums and razor sharp guitars. Production from Steve Albini is terrific. Black Francis and Kim Deal have a chemistry with their vocals that mesh nicely. End of the album fades a bit but this was an enjoyable listen.

I do love this album, and I never really realized how much Kim Deal adds to The Pixies sound. But the remastered edition on Spotify is cack! I had to bump the volume up to hear the details and it just made it sound like complete trash. Give me shitty 80s production over this weirdly spiky mix any day.

this bangs really hard okay I haven't listened to the Pixies in a long time, and when I did I don't know if I ever sat through this album in full. it was a great listen and a really nice feeling after work. I dont have anything cerebral to say about this. i will say that it slaps and feels good some indie shit with a surf vibe will always be a win to me

A great alternative rock album that had so many influences on the developing of the grunge scene. Most songs on them are raw and deranged but are melodic that are enjoyable to listen to.
Some great tracks and some good tracks, and I remember that at the time this felt like something a bit different & interesting, and wondering what would be next. However, both Doolittle and Bossanova are better albums for me, so I'm going with 4⭐

Pixies have gotta be one of the most influential bands to come out of the 80s. All of their stuff has aged so well. Although this is probably not their best record, I still really enjoyed it. Containing their biggest hit “Where is my mind?”, Surfer Rosa brings a really fun high-energy feel with flashes of punk, surf rock, and noise rock. Aspects of this record are still relevant today in bands like the Osees.
I liked this album more as it went on. Easy to listen to. The interludes and banter was enjoyable.

This album has 2 good songs on it. And it's the ones everyone knows. (Broken Face & Where is my mind?) The rest are rather average and somewhat boring. I wondered how this got the recognition this did especially in the 80s then I actually looked at the album cover. Boobs. Well played, Pixies.
First few songs are a good intro to the album but by far the weakest. Album gets great in back half.

If you told me this album came out in the 80's I would assume you were lying. For an album released in 1988 this has an iconic 90's sound.
there's definitely elements that i like on here like the production and guitars, but i'm not head over heels for it just yet. i feel like i should give it a bit more time though because obviously, i'm gonna like the song that was featured in one of my favorite movies of all time over everything else.

Less accessible than Doolittle - they really explored a more experimental, noisy vibe here. That didn’t stop them from making Gigantic and Where is My Mind which are some of their greatest hits. Still, other than those 2 I don’t think the rest of the album has quite enough to get to a 5.
Pretty decent mix of tunes. Rated lower because I much prefer some of their other albums but still enjoyed it.

Love the production, of course it’s Albini. Pop in a Nirvana way but everything is a little weird, which is right up my alley. So many good songs. One of those albums that always sounds like it was released “a few years ago”
A bit too noisecore for my taste, but definitely some fun parts
When all you really know from Pixies is "Where Is My Mind?" this album is a bit of a surprise. That's not to say I'm complaining, I love me some grungy punk like this. The aforementioned song is by far the best on the album it is a damn all time great track! Other standout tracks are "Broken Face", "Gigantic", "Cactus", and "Tony's Theme" the last of those being a very fun song.

Interesting for 1988. Not bad, but not something that reached out and grabbed me either.
All the features that make Pixies unique and great are here on album one, though there's a bit of inconsistency in the songwriting. It's all good fun at the time, but if I'm honest with myself half the tunes don't stick in the memory afterwards. It's a 3.5 regardless, and because of the big, big presence of Gigantic, Where Is My Mind? and (to a lesser extent) Bone Machine I feel compelled to round up.

My favorite Pixies album. Start to finish this album delivers its surrealist rock with devotions to the Saint of Broken Bodies, the dual Saint of the Caribbean Moon and Voyeurism, as well as the howling Saint of Feedback. I don't even mind the interstitial skits that much.

One of the best albums from the 80s alternative scene. No wonder why early Pixies has received so much praise. What a combination of eerie sounds and weird Spanish lyrics… I don’t know how, but it surely works!

Pretty awesome debut album.
Although I'd heard of the band before and heard a few of their songs, this was my first full listen-through of this album. Very impressive. I happen to get something from having at least a basic knowledge of an album and artist's background and also a general sense of the timing of an album's creation because quite often an album is reflective of, or a product of, the culture in which it's released, even when the artist or artists want to buck whatever is happening culturally at the time. When I place this album in the context of 1988, for example, it stands a little taller because the influences on their sound and style are a bit out of the norm for the time, and their own sound influenced a lot of music that followed. Kim Deal is such an interesting artist, too.
Great album by the Pixies, a lot of classics in there. Removed a star because the last couple songs (after Where is my mind) are a bit weak in comparison.

Avant garde, post-punk, pre-grunge - hard to believe this came out in 1988. Great production and sounds throughout. And even though I've heard the song six thousand times, Where is my Mind is still on of the greatest of all time.
This was fine. I didn't love it. But I didn't dislike it. It would have been really fun to see in concert though. Where Is My Mind? is iconic and unfortunately outshines the rest of the album.
I like the Pixies, I don't love the Pixies. I didn't get into them until later in life. That being said... Where is my mind is one of my top songs of all time. The magic they had on that track was never reached again in my eyes. They have some good tracks Who has them as their favorite band? 55 year old's who did a lot of acid in the early 90's? What situations is this music your go to? When you have reached fuck it. You just lost your 20 year job waiter job because your 20 year old manager was being a dick. You get in your dodge neon and crank this till your pioneer speakers blow. Maybe I just don't get it.

De zanger klinkt alsof iemand met een rasp over z'n balzak aan het gaan is. Het is vaak onsamenhangend, experimenteel en maf. Ze kunnen hun eigen teksten niet goed uitleggen, want tekst wordt vooral geselecteerd op klank, schijnt. Allemaal redenen om het af te schrijven en weg te gooien, maar ik vind het geweldig. How the hell did I get two Pixies albums in a row? It’s fine, I don’t mind them musically but not a fan of the vocals (again).
A fun debut album with a few stand outs sprinkled throughout.
I did not caliiiiiiiiic with this album at all.
Some of the lyrics are interesting with their innuendo, some of the music is okay and a bit catchy, but it seems too disjointed or jumping around to get into it on the first or second listening.

Stream of consciousness thoughts: Yay! I haven't listened to much Pixies, I'm excited. The vocal harmonies are so awesome, especially in Break my Bones and River Euphrates. Oh shit this is the album with Where is My Mind?! Ah such a good song. Interestingly it feels sort of out of place with the rest of the album, way more polished.

I love Kim Deal. Pixies have some great stuff and we're real genre creating artists. The guitar sound often leaves me feeling quite prickly and fatigued though.
Where is My Mind? is a fantastic song. Nothing else on here matches it but there is certainly some passion on display.

Начнём с того, что мне не очень нравится панк. А этот альбом чуть-ли не полностью пропитан энергией панка. Но даже несмотря на это, мне вполне понравилось. Сочетание околопанковских вокала и инструментала выполнено здесь очень гармонично, но главная звезда здесь (имхо) - электрогитара. На протяжении всего альбома она рвёт и ебашит без остановки, некоторые соло напрямую опережают время, а некоторые будто позаимствованы из прошлого десятилетия и поэтому альбом вышел очень разнообразным и его совершенно не скучно слушать. С другой стороны, здесь очень много откровенно диких треков (как и подобает жанру), от который я был не в восторге, но опять же, инструменты были на высоте, поэтому я не пересиливал себя, а слушал с удовольствием, несмотря на лютое и безбашенное исполнение, которое мне не всегда заходит (7.5)

Pixies don't sound the same once you learn that their lead singer is a fat balding man with the fashion sense of a guy who sells corn on the cob behind your local Tesco. Sorry that was mean. You gotta admit that he's up there with some of the least "lead singery"-looking lead singers of all time though. Kind of all over the place. Pixies' production never really clicked with me. It sounds like these songs were recorded inside a whale's stomach or something. It's pretty jarring. "Where Is My Mind" is a masterpiece though.
This is great 80s weirdness in all the best way. I always thought that Pixies were sort of like David Lynch movies - strange and chaotic. You either loved the work or didn't get it. I was in from day one and this is one of their best. This is what independent music was meant to embrace. Steve Albini's production, which allowed pop and noise to co-exist was enormously influential.
I really wanted to like this. Unfortunately I didn't. Just way to harsh sounding for me.
Given that this album came out in 1988 I have to assume that this album had a large influence on Nirvana and other 90s bands. It also sounded like it might have been an influence on the rock-side of the White Stripes. With the exception of "Where is my mind" which I already knew, I can't say that I really like what I heard here. Both of the singers are bad and the sound is just a bit too low-fi for me to really enjoy.
Really sweet album. I love the energy and creativity that Pixies always bring. The songs are very simple but catchy and some silly bits mixed in as well make it pretty fun. 8/10

The nineties are often pointed at as the peak of alternative rock. I think The Pixies got the party started two years early with this absolute masterpiece. The best song is whatever one you have on. It works from top to bottom. Absolutely excellent.

Just like Pavement this is another I'm "supposed" to like because it's influential or some bullshit. I guess for the time period it was different and weird so there's that. Unlike something like Run DMC who's influence led to a whole new genre of music this just underwhelms, I guess I just don't get it. Maybe Matt is right and Frank Black is better. I do like the album cover though so that gets it an extra star.

First listen through-I haven't listened to a rockish album in a while, so this was head-banging and a change of pace for me. I appreciated that it didn't feel super repetitive.
Ehhh it was okay. Definitely different but wasn't as catchy as I was expecting from them. I know the 2nd album a little better and this wasn't as good as that.
The drum is sick! Not all tracks have stuck with me, but I generally like this album and would listen to it one more time.

Where is My Mind is a near perfect song but I do find a couple songs fall in the category of filler...(Tony's Theme). Doolittle for me IS a 5 star album, Surfer Rosa...close real close but not quite there. 4.5 stars

Pixies get an automatic 5*. The moments of gathering energy, chaos barely controlled, followed by frantic eruptions still kill me. I love Kim Deal maybe more than any other musician. I was at the rock and roll hall of fame and the thing that geeked me out the most was that they had one of her basses. This album was tested under extreme conditions today—running late to school with my son and he was freaked, but this insane record somehow calmed him down.

The band that put an end to cheesy 80's rock and made things dangerous and funny again. The album takes a dip in quality right after Cactus but the first half is classic after classic. Not my favorite Pixies album, but there's no denying everyone should hear this at least once.
It's not a perfect album in its execution, but that's what makes it really great. That's how they felt it and that's how they released it. Deal with it.

Anyone who has seen the movies Mr. Nobody or Fight Club has inevitably fallen in love with the song Where Is My Mind. What a powerful and monumental hit! There are also other very strong moments on the album like Cactus, Bone Machine or Gigantic. I can't say that the rest of the material encourages me to come back to it often, but it's very good to listen to.
Post-punk punk, at least in spirit even if the level of technical competence is above that of most punk. It was OK, I listened to the whole thing without any desire to stop it, but nothing grabber my attention. There are spoken passeges that seem to focus on swearing rather than on any real message - these were just a waste of time, Not recommended, but no need of a stay away notice either

Guitar riffs as catchy as chlamydia. Bass lines as solid as a teenager's first time at a strip club. Swirling, mad, intense vocals. And most importantly - the whole thing is fun. Even when it's manic and bizarre and a bit nasty, it's still fun. I give this 4 cheeky sexual innuendos out of 5. 🍑🍆🍌🌮

Surfer Rosa is a must listen amongst Pixies fans. Where is My Mind is every bit of perfection you you for one of those lonely nights to cry inside to. Bone machine was my nickname in high school, Vaughan can attest. It’s also one of my favs to kick off the album. This is one of those records that you can start and finish three times over and still have it feel refreshing every time. It’s some of the peak music to come from the alternative genre in the late 80s. With takes where the band is just goofing and talking to each other, you feel like you’re right in the studio. Pixies are my dad's favorite band of all time and growing up he tried very hard to put me on them, but I was a stubborn preteen who thought Fall Out Boy was the peak of all rock. He'd be very frustrated to know that a ton of the bands he tried to put me on in my formative music-listening years are now some of the best artists to sum up my taste (70s-80s new wave and indie, 90s alt rock, etc). "Gigantic" is super nostalgic wow. My sister would repeat the chorus over and over again when she was little and I remember the song was in an Apple commercial that my dad recorded on the DVR to show everyone in my household that a Pixies' song was on TV (also literally Phoebe Bridgers was the star of the commercial and I never knew until last year. She's been living rent free in my head longer than I even remember). I do have a bias for Doolittle (which hopefully makes its way in this rotation soon), but I can definitely see how Surfer Rosa is super influential in developing gritty indie rock, especially as a debut album.
Never listened to a full Pixies album, but I enjoy their biggest hits, two of which are here on Surfer Rosa, so here goes. Really hoping I can find some gems beyond the singles. First impressions of Bone Machine are good, but the hook is a bit nagging, and sort of spoils some perfectly good 80s alternative instrumentation. Something Against You rocks. The bouncy guitar lick combined with the building drums is a nice start. Pretty wild to hear a borderline instrumental track so early in the tracklist, but hey!, that's early indie! Another reminder that Where Is My Mind is one of the best songs of the 80s! The perfect soundtrack for a main character existential crisis! This song had every reason to be as big of a hit as it is. With every song, I realize more and more that Billy Corgan calling this record and the Pixies discography an inspiration is the understatement of a century. This album belongs on this list, if just only for the influence it had on the best rock of the early 90s. fucking pixies, man. so, so foundational on my early journey into developing my own music taste at 12 or 13. surfer rosa is a frequent listen for me. this album is badass. everybody knows gigantic and where is my mind, but this album is painted top to bottom with iconic alternative tracks that served as the basis for so much of the music i love today. pixies is on the list of inspiration for any indie rock artist. the instrumentation isn't necessarily mind-blowing now, but i can't imagine it not being life-changing when it came out in 1988. it's got incredible guitar tones used on really smart and interesting riffs, and some really memorable but simple bass lines (especially gigantic. that line will stick in my mind forever). lyrics are genius, sound is genius, album is cohesive. this is an easy, easy 5. one of the best alternative rock albums to ever grace this earth. long live pixies

Dugi niz godina (a šta ja znam, par godina ali da bolje zvuči) mi je ovaj album bio njihov najdraži, ne znam - tad mi je bio bolji od Doolittle-a. Međutim, s vremenom se to promijenilo i pao je na drugo mjesto, no to ne znači da je slabiji od njihovog albuma iz 1989., jok, samo opet netko mora pojest govno u rankiranju jel. Surfer Rosa odličan album, Pixiesi u svom najboljem izdanju (Kim Deal <3) i mislim da je to bilo njihovo najjače vrijeme, potezno -> '88 - '90, ali hvala bogu na tome što je Kim sa sekicom pekicom osnovala The Breederse (1990). i uvelike razveselilo mnoge ljude koji su htjeli još čuti njene poteze na basu i vokalnu radnju, jer su se tu nešta razjebali Pixiesi oko '91 - kad smo kod toga, di si ti bio '91? Jesi isto nešta razjebao/la ili se nisi rodio/la? Hm? '88 godina je bila čak i jaka za glazbu, primjeri: "Daydream Nation, Spirit of Eden, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, Isn't Anything, Follow the Leader, Tender Prey i ovaj." E da, ne znam jesam vam pričao kako nisam otišao na jebeni koncert zbog posla? I da, posjedujem vinyl.
Although I've always meant to listen to the Pixies, I've never really done it intentionally before. Going into this album, the only song I was familiar with was Where Is My Mind?, which I like. It didn't turn out to be what I expected, and therefore, I must admit I was a little disappointed. Maybe it will grow on me, but for now, I don't entirely get the hype.
I would rate Surfer Rosa, the Pixies best album! It's no coincidence that Kim Deal made her most significant contributions to a Pixies record on this one and her lead vocals on, Gigantic was a highlight. Everything great about the Pixies comes together on this album and I even prefer it to Doolittle, which many fans consider their greatest. You really can't go wrong with their first 3 releases. An alt-rock classic!

Great album, I've loved it since high school. Used to cover some of these songs in our HS band. There are some songs that feel a bit like filler but great overall. Standout Tracks: Bone Machine, Broken Face, Gigantic, Where Is My Mind?
Where is my mind. That's it thank you. Overall really cool album, I really like the punk/grunge inspiration. Not all the songs are real bangers and I found it drags a bit on some songs. I think the voice recording is the part where we can feel that it is a debut album the most. Not too annoying but you can notice it a bit. I really enjoyed it and I think I will come back to it. 4.5 / 5
Okay this one is very special, I had a very hard time with the start of the album... Despite being remastered the voices sounded so bad compared to the instruments... The last part of the album is 10x better to hear than the first part in my opinion.... So I will go with a 2.5/5 as I did not like the start at all but the rest was pretty OK. Special mentiom for some instrumentals that are really nice but the vocals did not do it for me...
A lot of noise and which can be interesting to some but I found it obnoxious at times, a couple of good songs on the album though.
It’s wild to me that where is my mind wasn’t released as a single for this album. I get that it caught on through fight club but it’s so much better than the rest of the album and so unique it’s crazy that they only chose gigantic. It’s interesting to hear some Spanish lyrics and the last song was pretty good also, plus I can definitely see where Kurt contain got his inspiration from in this album.
This is an interesting one. I only knew the top hit before listening and wasn't expecting such distortion. But I liked it. the guitar tones were super nice and different, but also within the album and the drums and bass are just so in sync throughout this whole album, the rhythm section is doin a sick ass job. My biggest complaint is the length of the songs, I think due to such short tunes they are a little less memorable and start to blend together, and sure enough my favorite songs are essentially the longest ones: Where is my mind? (obviously), Bone Machine, Gigantic, River Euphrates and I also liked something against you quite a lot - beautiful tone. solid 3.5
Bloody awful racket
The Pixies debut studio album is known best for ‘Where is my Mind’ but the album as a whole shows the Pixies as a fully formed alternative rock juggernaut. The distinctive drums, experimental recording technique and their penchant for memorable melodies place this album into the category of groundbreaking hit very accessible.
