Standout tracks: Ms. Jackson Spaghetti Junction Humble Mumble Red Velvet Toilet Tisha I really wasnt a fan of this album. It felt very experimental and i couldn't get behind it at all. There were a few songs that i enjoyed but not enough to enjoy the album. There were tons of interludes giving the album more of a story telling feel compared to most hiphop albums which i thought was cool.
I'm not really a rap fan. This is more than just standard rap, though. It has fun drum beats, guitars, and melodies. I also heard different sounds and instruments being used as well as r&b influences. I didn't really care for the interlude tracks, however. Overall, a pretty fun listen with real life themes, but I will say the first half of the album is definitely stronger than the later half ("Gasoline Dreams" and "B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad)" in particular).
Packed full of great songs. Bombs over Baghdad is a personal top for me
Too many interludes, too long, but good to listen to the non massive hits I hadn't heard in ages
I love the production of this album. I love some of the songs on this album. I'm not sure I completely love the album.
Well this was a bit of a treat to someone who had not heard it before. 3.5 for me
My 4th favourite OutKast album, love it. Tom.
As Outkast entered the 2000s, their sound saw a pretty drastic shift from some of the more stylized and more lyrically dense music for a much more straightforward Pop Rap approach. Don't get me wrong this album is far from radio material but it is very obvious to see just how much more accessible the production, rapping, and even songwriting is here than some of the group's previous material. As much as I really wanted to love this album, I simply could not. The direction is a bit all over the place and the interludes really bog up what would be a pretty solid album into one I feel many people look back on quite too fondly and don't highlight the flaws enough. I feel when looking at this album and then again their iconic double album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, the problems arising from this tonal shift with Outkast become more abundantly clear. They simply do not know how to cut out the fat and instead throw everything at you and hope for the best. Stankonia could have easily been a 30-40 minute long album but was instead stretched way past its' limit to 1 hour and 13 minutes and I find that to be quite excessive. For as negative as I am being I do not hate this album, but I feel its' nostalgia factor has worn off quite significantly in my mind.
Seems quite common now but this was a very different sound when released. Some huge tracks on there, could do without the late 90s/00s “skits” on every track though
Maybe I was just not in the mood for it, but this felt way less consistent than I remembered. The highs were still really high, but the rest was kinda meh and bloated.
There’s so much personality in André 3000 and Big Boi’s performances, which brings a tonne of energy to the album. Combined with some very punchy production (Especially on tracks like Bombs over Baghdad and Xplosion) and it’s hard not to bob your head for the entirety of the hour+ runtime. Not sure I can get into the interludes to be honest. When I’m already a little weary about how long this album is, they just get a liiiiittle annoying. Wasn’t really pulled in by the humour of them either. Heavily felt some fatigue on the back half of the album. If this was trimmed down it’d be an all-timer.
Mrs. Jackson was familiar. The rest was too long. Maybe a good look at life in inner-city Atlanta. The usual macho bravado and libido of hip-hop, with the occasional smooth turn of a lyric but more often predictable.
I did enjoy this album
Not bad, some catchy tunes, and some upbeat numbers, but also some less interesting raps
Pretty good, my kids liked it
BREAK! or also called, annoying interlude. I like music in my albums not skits. Nevertheless. This album had some good music. But also, it's rap, which I'm still not the biggest fan of. Hoping this challenge can change that, but for now 3 because of the hits.
They’ve always been more of a singles group for me and this album doesn’t change much. “So Fresh, So Clean” and “Ms. Jackson” are all time smash hits and there’s a few other good tracks here as well, but also some clunkers. Couldn’t care less about the interludes.
This album was good but id be lying if i said i liked it as much as i wanted to. The loud and funky production is great, and the contrast between 3K and Big Boi is really fun, but maybe it was just me, but I felt it was lacking the bangers I wanted out of it. Maybe that’s my expectations getting the better of me but I still felt a little let down. I still liked it a fair bit, just wanted a little more.
Rating(e): 5/10
not my fav album but some objectively good songs
Some okay beats here but not for me. Gasoline Dreams was kind of good and Xplosion, Humble Mumble, Red Velvet. probably going with a 3 here.
Lots of cool sounds, beats, flow. The skits break the momentum, though. Could have been 4 stars. 3 stars.
Super interesting and unique album. Creative production. It’s a tad too long. I prefer ATLiens and Aquemini, but this one is a close third. 3.6/5.0
Tedious sometimes, fun other times
3.5. some of the songs were weird but i liked it overall. just not something i’d listen to again :P
7/10
Prob my fav rap album so far
Though I've never really fancied myself an OutKast fan, I have to say this was pretty good. It had a lot of range and kept things interesting the whole way through. Stylistically, it can most easily be called rap/hip hop, but really is much more than that. So much more that it kinda circles back around to just bearing the rap/hip hop moniker. I don't generally love the genre, but I was still able to enjoy this one well enough. There was a heavy use and range of melodies on the album, which I enjoyed compared to just steady flows. The structure of the album reminded me a bit of Public Enemy, but with early Kanye West-like concepts and production and more vocalization. There's also a variety of topics on there you might not see on many other hip hop and rap albums, or at least not presented the same way. I did think it suffered a bit from all the featured artists. When the majority of the full-length songs include a feature (sometimes multiple), it gets a bit distracting to listen to. It feels less like the main artists' album in a way. Another issue I had was the length. I had to pause my listen a few times given it runs 73+ minutes. I'm not sure it's really justified being that long, even if most of the songs on it were good. It causes the good songs to lose their momentum and the OK songs to muddle, stagnating (stank-nating?) the album. As a whole, I thought this was a solidly good album. It probably would have been better if it was 3/4 as long, but it had enough to keep it interesting despite the length. There were some really good songs on it and no real bad ones. Even though I don't usually love the style of music, I still found it a good listen. Overall: 3.4/5
Three stars. Only because it’s carried by 2 great songs
Musically, I enjoy this but it is a bit bloated with interludes and filler tracks.
Stank you. Very much
The good is really good but there's a lot of fillers in here
I enjoyed the hits
Experimental, I like. Very ahead of it's time.
It was great for the most part, but not really the style of music I go out of my way to listen to. The hits on the album are undeniable.
I had it playing in the background, but it wasn’t rlly my favorite. It’s not my style but I obv like ms.jackson bc who doesn’t? I don’t think I would listen to it again but I liked the exposure to a different kind of music!
3 songs saved (ms. Jackson, so fresh so clean, red velvet). Others are so so
Álbum divertido. Dá pra curtir. QKZXHBB HADES.
I managed to listen to this twice, which is surprising as it's 73 flipping minutes long, and I'm glad I did, if only because it confirmed everything I thought on first listen. They promise funk, and there certainly is a distinctive sexy/funky feel to this, but in most other ways it follows standard hip-hop tropes. Overlong. Crude/unfunny interludes. A few cracking tunes and a whole load of filler. Slightly less bling bling and slightly more jaded lyrics than west coast G funk, but otherwise nothing new.
I didn't really get into Outkast until Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, so it was great to fully listen to this album and appreciate another of their really influential releases.
I liked this album the most so far
Legends, aquemini best rap album all time
I’d rate a 3.5. It’s a little bloated and could do without the interludes.
the songs were all JUST A BIT too long. I liked so fresh, so clean (and it’s the only one can I can remember).
I LOVEE THIS ALBUM THIS IS SO MY MUSIC TASTE YAYYAYYAYAYAY
bleh
Good but a little too long. Too many skits. Some absolute bangers. They really need half stars so I can give this a 3.5.
Def a little long, the three singles are all incredible, but gasoline, humble mumble and spaghetti junction were all new to me and awesome as well. Favorite skit is Kim & Cookie, was legit loling. 3.5 rounded down bc 74 mins is just too much.
Pretty catchy and overall good
The sense of humor on this album doesn't exactly work for me. I bounce off of a lot of the songs here because of that. Speakerboxx / The Love Below is a greatly superior album for me. The singles stand the test of time, but the rest doesn't get me all too excited. A pretty soft 3-star review.
A wonderfully thick and bizarre collection of massive pop-rap hits, and stanky weirdness. Like a nation of individuals, creative, and elegant and flawed at the same time. Humble Mumble hits even harder now than it did when I first heard this. The 4th quarter of the album, lacking any of the radio hits, nor any material at all that could be considered radio-ready, is an interesting choice of songs. On one hand it feels like outtake material tacked on at the end, but there is a weight that keeps me coming back and finishing the album.
Banging
Wildly exuberant. MC role never seemed so much like a Bard. Great interludes. Started to drag and over indulge at places.
3 Stars - In my opinion it is incredibly volatile Album with some high highs such as "B.O.B" "Xplosion" "Ms Jackson" Rivaled with some Hard Listens with "Snappin' & Trappin'" "We Luv Deez Hoez" Overall I expected more from the hype however somewhat dissappointed.
Not really my style but the songs were pretty catchy
It would be 2* but there is Sorry Mrs. Jackson, one of my all time favourite songs, on it so...
A classic for a reason. Reminds me of high school.
I mean….a classic. Iconic. Historical. All that. I feel like my first mainstream introduction to funk (?). Not an everyday listen for me BUT famous for a reason. Love OutKast.
only liked the first song tbh
it's mostly meh. i see why it is popular, but it is very monotonous and too long. Nothing really stands out. B.O.B was the one notable track and then was a decent section of the album with the 2 or 3 songs after it. 3 stars
Crispy, crunchy beats. Snap, crackle, bop! There's some terrific stuff on here - BOB, Gasoline Dreams, Ms Jackson... But, as others have said, it's just too long. Just because a CD has a 73 minute capacity, it doesn't mean you have to fill it to the brim. Loses a star for being 30 minutes too long.
More hit and miss rap. Had less talk of bitches and dicksucking than others, so that’s a positive. And B.O.B. is an absolute banger.
Forever-ever?
strange beats i’m not sure i love, but def got a few bangers
Not my cup of tea.
Good solid album but why do they still put interludes and skits in there, like there is no need for them at all
This was part of the soundtrack of 12 year old boys in a rich white rural community during what felt at the time like a trough of culture. The endless rapid fire rhymes enumerating all of the various ways Andre 3000 has in fact had sex and the 'Explicit' label on the cover was just irresistible to a bunch of virgins doing the De-generation X 'suck it' motion. It took so long to get through this album in 2025. Having to go through so many hiphop albums that clock in over an hour when half of it is interludes and skits is just exhausting. I'm giving an extra star for Bombs over Baghdad which I will always remember as a song defining that era of the war in Iraq and how disgustingly ostentatious everything was at the time.
Muuten positiivinen kokemus.
This was ok. The sex songs are pretty juvenile
The album started so strong for me, So Frsh and So Clean and Ms Jackson were incredible opening songs, but the middle really lost its way to the point where I almost stopped listening. Then B.O.B. came on and that saved it for me. Loved the Erykah Badu feature. It's an ambitious album, politically aware, sonically interesting, but it just wasn't for me. Still 3.5/5 though, when it works it's fantastic.
• produzione extra crispy.
didn‘t expect this for day 1, but i enjoyed it! really made me feel nostalgic. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ tho because i probably wouldn‘t listen to it often.
3.5 rounded down to a 3
Three starts for a “rap” album is about as high as it’s gonna get for me. Many song remind me of my high school days.
This is the first rap album on this list I actually enjoyed listening to. If Killer Mike's in it, I'm probably going to enjoy it. Still stupidly misogynistic. I've heard the word bitch thrown out about 200 times more than I've listened to any Albums by Bitches on this list.
It was ok as background music. Didn't like it as well as The Love Below/Speakerboxx.
dragut dar nu chiar genul meu
not super my thing, I liked a couple of songs and understand it was super influential but prob wont listen again
Some great songs, but album is too long and dragged down by skits.
As much as I like some of the songs on this album (Ms. Jackson, Fresh and Clean), most of it was a lot of fluff, and it was too long. A bit disappointed, as I really like the “best of” Outkast.
This was good -definitely an innovative rap sound from the traditional East-coast/West-coast- but wouldn’t consider it ‘great’ aside from a couple hits and new discoveries (“Spaghetti Junction” and maybe “We Luv Deez Hoez”)
I'd never listened to a full Outkast album before; I just know a handful of their songs.
I think I own a copy of this somewhere. It's long. It almost felt like a slog to listen to this time. I do have a few favourites. Big Boi makes a lot of innuendos and Andre3000 performs well. But, by the 1 hour mark, I was honestly a bit bored. So Fresh and and So Clean - now that is a jam. 3 stars.
Would have been a 4/5 stars as a tight 45min album. Bagginess drops it to a 3.
A longer one. I’ve been meaning to catch up on music i was too young to listen to when it came out. Actually, this album is older than I am by a couple months. It’s fine. I can move my head to it.
Suffers from being about 25 minutes too long. Obviously they were having a lot of fun! Absolute classics here "Ms Jackson", "So Fresh and Clean", BOB
A couple of power house singles and I definitely saved a few off. A few songs that in my opinion went on a little too long and a few times throughout the album where it began to feel a little one note to me unfortunately. The really high points carried the low points.
The best songs are really good, the rest was pretty boring to me. If this is the best rap album of the century (according to the top rating) then I have no hope. 3/5
3/5 bizarre is the perfect word for this album. Funky beats and sounds cool most of the time. Just not sure what to make of it at all. Probably would need more time/listen throughs to really make up more of an opinion.
Love the "Break!"
Pretty good, a little too long to stay engaged with.
Lost a star because of how many interludes (terrible skits) there were. Got it back because the beats in Snappin’ and Trappin’ reminded me of Earthbound
I thought I’d like it more after listening to Ms. Jackson a lot, it’s a bit more on the repetitive side, and the interludes ruin the flow for me. Some standouts for me were Ms. Jackson, Stankonia, and B.O.B.
This was really good. Even the skits, usually the worst part of rap albums, were crazy brief and effective.
I didn't vibe to it as much as I thought I would. As when this album was released, I had it on a fairly high rotation. Bit if a shame really.
Great production and some classics, but also a few song with problematic lyrics! Highlight - Ms. Jackson
Excellent album but overlong
Didn't love it - didn't hate it. I think I don't get it.
I like this slightly more than the last OutKast album I was subjected to, I suppose. “Bombs Over Baghdad” is annoyingly catchy and I hate “Ms Jackson” a bit less than I hate “Hey Ya!”, so it has that going for it. It’s still a good 30mins too long (drop the interludes!), and I still don’t get what all the fuss is about OutKast generally. Really it’s a 2.5*, but you’ve caught me on a good day.
I spent most of the day after listening to this with So Fresh, So Clean stuck in my head. It's not even the best track on the album, it's just infuriatingly catchy. The best song is of course Ms. Jackson which is one of the absolute best songs of the early 2000s. Overall, I dislike most of the interludes, which make a very long album longer than it needs to be, and there are some... questionable... lyric choices in places, but when it's good, it's really good. I actually liked Speakerboxxx/The Love Below better as a whole (or two halves I guess), so this is a 3/5
Tough one. A lot of really good here. But the album is fairly repetitive in tone and it’s quite long. Tough combo.
From a listening perspective, this is a 2.5 for me, but you can see the influence this had on a lot of later rappers I love (Childish Gambino, Tyler the Creator) and there's quite an eclectic collection here, with a lot of fun interludes.
Highlights: So Fresh So Clean, B.O.B. In a nutshell: a fresh formula "Everybody's been doing music like they all have the same formula — e = mc2. They get a beat, an MC, somebody to sing the hook, and go platinum. Where's music going to go when everybody's trapped in this same repetitious flow?" Big Boi, Billboard Magazine (September 2000) Hip hop and rap sounded moody, flat and predictable for much of the 90s. Stankonia changed that in 2000. It is a refreshing fusion inspired by Jimi Hendrix, Prince, Little Richard, Funkadelic and Parliament. Light on the samples, frenetic BPM, positive vibes, danceable...and someone is *singing*!?! The interludes annoyed me, yes. Some lyrics are a little cringe. Some songs could have been shorter. What made me overlook these flaws is how random it is. Andre 3000 and Big Boi have great flow too. In my eyes, this is one of the best albums of the genre. Why? It doesn't retread the same path. Overall: 5/10
Better than expected. Of course there are some great tracks on there, but the b-sides shocked me. They were pretty decent. The closing track is particularly good.
A couple of favorites but have a feeling the album will grow on me.
i‘ve been sleeping under a rock wird es hip hop stable in dis house kenne ja scho paar tracks, abr es isch echt coolio weiss zwar nid viu über dtexschte abr dr flow, rhythm u dr augemein ufbou findi top
I love the singles, but this was overly long.
Good rap record but I found their other album on the list to be more interesting. It was fine “Ms. Jackson” is great, but the rest of it was a little meh for me.
Nada mal, nada guau Nota: 3.0
Decent but too long
I wasn't impressed...
Found some of it interesting, some not so much.
Ms Jackson is still the best track on the album
The start of the album is... how would I say this... ''unique''. But the whole album has some very fun songs and interludes. It felt like I was watching a skate or snowboard competition!
Lots of great hits on here, and the beats are immaculately produced. I do feel that the more conscious hip-hop tracks on here kind of get undermined by the constant sexual innuendos.
The interludes were bothering me and it was a bit too long. But the hits and b.o.b. are great songs.
Ms Jackson, So fresh and so clean, and B.O.B. were huge hits when they came out. Probably peak Atlanta rap. This album was constantly playing.
Stanky. In a tribute to Parliament kind of way. Besides the singles from this the rest is okay. Their virtuosity is obvious. The interludes got a little annoying.
It was tolerable- still dislike all those skits and really wasn’t into the guest rappers
This is a well respected and clearly coherent Rap/Hip-hop album, but is just too hardcore for my delicate sensibilities. Also, it's long; It's over an hour with lots of songs and interludes. Pitchfork: 9.5 Rolling Stone: Top 500 Albums #64 Best Songs So Fresh, So Clean Ms. Jackson
Landmark record for the group, wasn't familiar with their music in general, so it was new for me; plenty of songs to pass the time, some more energetic than others and a couple very famous ones. It was great.
So Fresh So Clean, Ms. Jackson, B.O.B… 3/5
A lot of the songs are really good, and it was nice to experience the album once, but I don't think I'd listen to it again with all the skits.
ta bien
Song certified bangers, but also some songs that are out there.
There's a lot to love and respect here, but the rest I strongly disliked.
Sounds like a good representation of the genre. Some humour. Some social criticism. Some detailed biology. We luv deez hose is catchy. It's an album. Not my thing but if the critics put it here it's not for me to say no.
Liked the variation through the album. Wasn’t a big fan of the interludes. Really enjoyed some of the songs but others weren’t really my thing. Wouldn’t listen again as an album but there are some tracks I would keep listening to. Fav song: Ms Jackson - also liked Gasoline Dreams and Spaghetti Junction Least fav: We Luv Deez Hoez
This guy is obsessed with stank/ smell puns what the hell. Really liked a few of the songs but a few too weird and a few too horny. Specific rating 3.5 Fav song - ms Jackson Least fav -I’ll call b4 I cum
There were some others songs I quite liked but none of them came close to Ms. Jackson which makes it really hard to rate! Think the fact I accidentally listened to the clean versions can only have helped my rating. Favourite song: Ms. Jackson Least: Red Velvet
Not bad at all. Not all to my taste, but still a good album.
Not as good as the hype made it out to be…
Reminiscent of college, but not my style
Interesting
Couple of nostalgic tracks from my college years, but this dropped on the wrong day for me to fully absorb or enjoy. I may have to listen again in the future when my head and heart are in the right place…
Not as good as yesterday's double album
Ok
First off, got a few songs into this before I realized 'e' means explicit, not edited! (I prefer the unedited version), so trying again with the uncensored album. I know a handful of songs from this one, but an shocked I've never listened to the full thing. It wasn't bad! But it definitely felt like it lost some steam in the second half.
3/5, i've never been a fan of interludes and this album is no exception. some great songs here but also some real swings and misses
Obviously a classic, but at the same time not really for me. I have heard this album before but I think I skipped past most of the interludes which I listened to this time and they didn’t really add anything. I don’t really enjoy interludes. I think there is some great songs on here but it’s over an hour run time drags at points.
Musica black Estaba bastante bien Muchos interludes no se pq
Outside the hits, didn't grab me. Excellent production, of course. But thematically uninteresting and not very compelling for my tastes. The same tendency for over-repetition that I didn't enjoy on Speakerboxxx//The Love Below also showed itself in some songs on this album. May revisit 2-3 songs, but not much more than that. Weak 3/5.

3.4 Torn on this. This list has changed my opinion on rap/hip-hop. I can now appreciate it some times. This album contains some of the parts about it I like - completely layed/textured beats, interesting songs, non grating lyrics. On the other hand, it contains various songs that are the exact type I severely dislike, the over the top gangsta/misogynistic shit - We Luv Deez Hoes, Gangsta Shit, I'll Call Before I Cum. Those songs alone (+ a few others) kneecap the album and stop it from reaching very good territory imo.
Entertaining mix of rap, funk and hip hop.
Not bad.
I'm not very far into this project, and I keep encountering albums where I know the singles/hits pretty well, but have basically zero knowledge of the album cuts. For me, the singles were by-far the strongest tracks here with a couple deeper cuts surprising me. Standout Track(s): Gasoline Dreams, B.O.B.
Not their best record and why does BOB last longer than 3 mins?
This is a bit different. It's quite quirky, but a lot of the tracks land. Good production in general, and it's quite varied across the runtime. I really like the more upbeat tracks with heavier drums. They seem like fun dudes. 3.5 rounded down.
Although I never really liked dirty south as a subgenre, I used to give OutKast a pass because Andre 3000 is an absolute beast of a MC. His flow is extremely technical and versatile, making him one of the best MCs of his generation. The three first OutKast albums were solid offerings, with a dark and sober tonality. I’ve listened to AtLiens and Aquemini quite a few times, and they never get old. Stankonia, however, marks a drop in quality in my humble opinion. It’s more pop-ish, loud and messy than their previous works. The production is all over the place, and there are far too many skits. This album is a perfect example of why a good MC isn’t enough to make a good hip hop record – although the flow is still great in itself, it tends to get drowned in a cacophony of sounds. With Stankonia, OutKast is flirting with pop-rap. Kind of a disappointment. The only truly great track of the album for me is "X-plosion".
First, they were one of the most original rap groups out there, though I think they’re out of the game now. Back in 2000, this album managed to keep an alternative edge and a weird vibe while still being hugely popular. Nice to hear B-Real featured. André 3000’s voice can get on my nerves sometimes, but I still enjoy the mix and enjoy most of the tracks. I had’t listen to it for at least 15 years but is still kicks ass.
One of the better Hip-Hop records on the list, but that's probably OutKast are just far and beyond pretty much any other act in the genre. The beats are creative and ecletic, the raps are delivered with the utmost charisma by both Big Boi and André 3000, cool guest features, and good hooks. However, this album is still plagued by 90's-00's hip-hop album nonsense, such as being too long and peppered with very dated and incredibly cringe skits. Key tracks: Ms. Jackson B.O.B.
Some classics but overall too much filler
Some great tracks on here but a very long album. Would need to listen to again to judge the consistency.
Some absolutely classic songs on this album! A lot of songs I could do with never hearing again. VERY uneven quality wise. Then again, what do I know? I prefer Big Boi over Andre 3000.
High highs (Ms. Jackson) low lows (We Luv Deez Hoez).
Surprisingly, more to my taste than I had expected.
The hits are really great but the rest is meh for me. 3/5
Not my genre but better than I expected
Another hip hop album that was quite tuneful. Some nice grooves on this although personally I don’t think I’ll ever fully get my head around the genre
Was okay with it on in the background but couldn't finish - not my vibe. Some good songs mixed in though.
i always liked andre 3000
Pretty kick ass hip hop. It's amazing how a little musicality elevates the sound.
I’d like to see an OutKast reunion
OutKast's sound is exactly as I remember it. Wild, fun, something you can truly groove to. Often with a little hidden edge in the lyrics - most obviously in Mrs. Jackson. Sure, it's fun to dance to, but it's also a song about a guy apologizes to his girlfriend's mom for knocking her daughter up and running. The fact that it ends with the wedding march? *Chef's Kiss*. If the album has a weakness, it might be one time made. I know Outkast's sound so well by now that at a certain point some of the songs started to blend together. I think around the time B.O.B. hit I started drifting off. Could have used a little variety.
I liked some songs but didn't like a the rest that much
Couple iconic songs on here, didn't really care for the rest. Best song: So Fresh, So Clean Notable(s): Ms. Jackson
Few classics (Ms. Jackson for example) and a nice closer elevated this album for sure. Buuut as a whole? Not that amazing.
Some bangers and hits but too many skits and interludes.
Some good tunes, not their best
Started off hot but cooled off
Fine songs I just don’t like OutKast that much
Knowing the 2 leas singles (BOB & Ms. Jackson), and them being two of the finest early 00s rap songs I’ve heard, I expected a lot more from this album and found it disappointing. Despite its ridiculous length, to its credit I didn’t find it to feel too long. And while Big Boi and Andre are two of the most talented rappers of their era, their bars alone couldn’t save the album from its indulgent over abundance of pointless interludes and consistently sub-par beats. Büro, Heidenheim, Deutschland. Feines Album, wenn auch etwas zu lang.
Flow: below average Beat: Average Lyrics: Not bad
Miss Jackson is great. The rest... not so much
Bro the intro.. MY EARPHONE IS NOT CONNECTED!!! (not the album's fault lmao) I was about to say its slightly outdated, until i realized its published in 2000. NVM, its good. I really like an album with its own structure and devides itself with interludes.
Not my favorite outkast album, but still a banger
Not a bad hiphop album, with other influences, and easily listenable. Not really my type though.
Oh man I remember NYE 2000 we had the TV on MTV or something and it was basically playing Ms. Jackson on repeat. Could do without the weird "Interludes". B.O.B. is so good.
the hits hit and the others aren't for me.
Some goofy interludes and musical moments on this album; OutKast mixes singing and pop elements with hip hop and it doesn't always work. Overall, still some good rap songs on here and the singing works on Ms. Jackson. Standouts: Ms. Jackson, Humble Mumble, Red Velvet, B.O.B.
And mental half star…
While I like the album, some of the weird interludes, audio gimmicks and spoken word jokes are not enjoyable. I find the interruptions to the flow of the whole disrupting and tacky. Most of the album's music is groovy as heck tho.
Great album dragged down by an enormous run-time caused by an excess of filler tracks and completely unnecessary skits. Still gets 3 stars because some of the music is fantastic. 3.0/5.0: Good
It’s ok, in its way
Sintići u nekim pjesmama 👌🏻 Sve u svemu, solidnih 3/5, 6.5/10
No lo conocía. Sin interés
It’s a fun album, and very 2000s (in a good way), but I wasn’t feeling it today. It felt too long, and aside from “Ms. Jackson” (which is excellent, of course), no other tracks really jumped out at me. Favorites: Ms. Jackson, So Fresh So Clean
Not my type of music.
I love Outkast. Ms. Jackson came out when I was 10 or 11, and I loved it immediately. Aside from the three songs I knew (Ms. Jackson, So Fresh/So Clean, and Bombs Over Baghdad), nothing stood out to me. It got to be kind of long.
5/10
I want to like Outkast more. They are obviously talented and it's clear they want to innovate and are not satisfied with the status quo. There is some really interesting stuff on here, but unfortunately it just doesn't click for me. I liked this better than Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, but overall it goes into the "good but not great" bin.
There are some of their huge songs in this album.... but also a lot of filler. A 1 hour 13 minute album that probably should have been cut down to maybe 30-40 minutes. That being said, the hits are great. I'd say maybe a 3.
Good
An album with a wide scope of subjects ranging everywhere from the carefully considered political and personal, to the crassly sexual. The production is consistent throughout and the songs co-exist despite their different moods. The singles are the obvious stand-outs, though I hadn't really appreciated how good B.O.B. was until giving this a re-listen.
Good album, not my usual music but really enjoyed this one with some strong bangers. 6.8/10
Innovative and creative and manages to alternate between fun and meaningful without giving the listener whiplash.
Some good songs but generally not for me
Really loud and fatiguing, especially mazing out the run time of a CD.
7.5/10 Album was super interesting. Each song has a unique, weird beat and is combined with flowy vocals/rapping. There was just too many interludes and some songs felt repetitive. Fav Songs: ‘So Fresh, So Clean’, Ms. Jackson, Spaghetti Junction, Xplosion, Humble Mumble, Red Velvet
Not my genre at all. Definitely had some good sounds and beats, but I would not listen to it again voluntarily. Stand out songs: - So Fresh, So Clean - Ms. Jackson - I’ll Call B4 I Cum - Toilet Tisha
3.5
Dig rhe feel. Interludes. Def a 2000 album, and has that era solidly steeped in its core
Some classic bangers but a surprising number of skips. Also hella interludes
Wasn’t sure what I was expecting but I really enjoyed this! Definitely something I’ll be listening to again
Didn't enjoy this one as much as Spearboxxx/The Love Below The songs were catchy but it was too long and repetitive A+++ for Ms. Jackson though 🔥 3 ⭐️
This was fine. I like the hits by OutKast but this album as a whole just didn’t do much for me
Good fun
Pretty good.
Key and Peele make more sense now. Weird mix of weird and explicit, some quite effective
This album is super-ambitious and feels really experimental compared to what was happening at the time. The hits still hold up, but overall there could have been more self-editing. It feels a bit long at 1:13 and not all the songs are great. Best song: Ms. Jackson
The other one on here is much better. Still good tho
Okay a bit long of an album - hiphop
Always an experience listening to Outkast, Andre 3000 has the most more-ish voices around and BigBoi's flows are G O L D E N. Fave Tracks - Gasoline Dreams - So Fresh, So Clean
Wanted to give this a 5 for originality, variety and ambition. The longer it went on, the harder that was to justify.
That is some Gangsta Shit! Not my thing, but it’s got a couple undeniable bangers and, to my knowledge, I didn’t hear Kendrick Lamar make an appearance, so that’s a +1. What a douchebag he is. 3.0.
Decent instrumentals and some cool sounds, think I needed to pay more attention to the lyrics to appreciate it properly but it didn't grab me enough for that
I made it about halfway through the album some good songs on there. I really love sorry Miss Jackson overall not my favorite kind of got bored of it after a while. Partially it was a half hearted listen but it just didn’t captivate me for some reason. Production was great.
This album has a ton of bangers but they are heavily front-loaded. I wonder what might have ended up getting cut if this came out in the vinyl era rather than the CD era. So many releases during the CD era are bloated with b-tier work. This album very much feels that way to me. There is no denying that Outkast's best work stands up to anyone's, but I feel like they could have lopped at least 30 minutes from this and not lost anything significant. The first 30 minutes is dense with catchy, funky, fresh bangers and that half earns the four stars. The second half doesn't do much for me.
0.75 0.75 0.75 0.5 0.5
I mean, I liked it more than a lot of the rap/hip-hop albums we've had on this list but that doesn't mean I loved it. It suffers from the same problems a lot of them do such as a lot of trashy songs with pointless/worthless lyrics and being entirely, annoyingly too long. Seriously, like every rap album made between 1980 and 2015 is over an hour for absolutely no reason. Just obnoxious. This album wasn't awful, Outkast can spit for sure and the lyrics in parts were interesting but overall just too long. Did like that they said "Break" after every interlude/skit, I dunno why but that made me smile.
I've heard this before but its been a while. Some bangers. BOB is the best track and reminds of high school dances back in the day.
Gave me a headache honestly--Ms. Jackson and B.O.B. saved it. The album cover is kind of sick though.
Pretty solid. Some nice beats and rhythms. Of course So Fresh, So Clean and Ms. Jackson are bangers. The beat for We Luv Deez Hoez was amazing but that laughter made me never want to hear it again lol. Red Velvet hit on all the levels (lyrically, musically, vocally) and Toilet Tisha was solid lyrically. Could have done without the interludes. All in all, solid but not amazing and not sure if it would hit a whole album re-listen for me (but that could also be because it's not my favorite genre).
“Ms. Jackson” is great, and overall this solid but much too long. “Gangsta Shit” and “BOB” are also good; “We Love Deez Hoes” is not.
Some songs were great. Interludes were cringe. Some dumb songs.
Highlights: Ms Jackson, B.O.B.
Gillar outkast.
Couple of classics. It’s alright.
Very catch and fun, but I'm not sure about substance. And I'm not sure if I want to revisit it.
decent
Some good songs on here, but why would I need to hear this before I die?
neato I found out after the fact that the songs I liked were the popular ones
The corporate machine enslaves yet another artist.
High 3 Good hip-hop album, mix with a lot of genre Falls a little bit after B.O.B.
Hey Ya might be the song of the early 2000s, but the rest of the album didn't land with me. (Of course B.O.B. and Ms Jackson are bangers tho)
Didn't love this comparatively to other outkast projects, the highs are very high though
Some very high highs and some quite mid lows on this mixed hip hop album. Ultimately too long (24 songs! 75 minutes!) and not enough of it strong enough.
Not much of a rap guy but I liked B.O.B., and Ms. Jackson is of course one of the songs of all time
You see rap frustrates me a lot. I think the music is good, the rhythms are awesome, but why do most things need to be so crude? I loved so fresh and so clean, up until all of these innuendos started coming in. To be clear im not trying to be a puritan but none of these words say anything profound other than, they like sex. I loved ms Jackson, because it had substance and was speaking about life experience, and if there was a sexual reference it was serving a greater narrative. But as good as the music is, it is this self elevating crude language that makes me from enjoying more.
I did not enjoy this nearly as much as I expected to. I found the production abrasive in a bad way and a few songs had nice moments that didn't last. The singles are still standout but not much I would go back for. I may have just been in a bad mood while listening though.
This was always a fun and funny album. Good Listen!
Never listened to this one all the way through but now i can say that this is a solud album! Has some greats hits like "Ms. Jackson" and "So Fresh, So Clean". Honorable mention to "Humble Mumble" and "Stankonia (Stanklove)". 2nd half of the album was a lot stronger than the 1st half.
I like my hip-hop stripped down and this is just too busy. Great moments here and there, but the production pushes me away.
Came close to giving this a 2, but then after giving it a second listen with headphones instead of speakers, I connected a lot more to the music. It's just a bit too long for my liking, but there are a several songs that are a vibe. And other songs that I could still appreciate for OutKast's experimental approach to the genre.
They are for real
I love the DJing, have never cared for the MCing.
Some good tunes but in general not my scene
Not really my genre. "Ms. Jackson" is good though. 3/5
This was good and had some hits, but not my favorite I've ever heard.
An alright album but not really my style of music so not real standout songs.
I get that this is good. I get that it's unique. I liked a few tracks, like Bombs Over Baghdad. Otherwise, I still don't get it. I'm just not an Outkast fan, I guess. 3.5
Don't everybody like the smell of gasoline?
Solid album; somewhat disjointed with the non-sequitur interludes, however the three singles are still relevant plays. Lots of guests and cooperations.
I'm here for "B.O.B. - Bombs Over Baghdad" What a song!!! 5 out of 5! Do I need to hear the rest, or should I just call "B.O.B." a masterpiece and call it a day? I wish the rest of it had the same energy as "B.O.B."
This is not really for me but I kinda liked it. The mix is not that well but it was fun to listen to
Not as good as their Speakerbox album but still some good tracks
Dislike rap greatly. some ok. but not my style of noise
Liked a lot of it but it was a lot to consume in one sitting. And some songs sound like flight of the concord parodies.
very solid album with a mix of humour and the overtly political
Starts off wit moaning, why not? Quote: funk, rave music, psychedelia, gospel, and rock within a Dirty South-oriented hip hop context. Considered one of the greatest hip-hop albums. Very creative runs.
Fun to bump out of something with some bass.
STTTTAAANKLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE 3.5?
To be honest, I was quite disappointed listening to this album. Don't get me wrong, it was not a bad album, but, having heard the praise OutKast gets for all these years, and with the absolute banger that Ms. Jackson, from this very album, is, I expected something mind blowing. In response, I got something which feels like it drags on for longer than it should, probably due to the sheer number of songs in the album, as the runtime is pretty normal, and all in all, sounds kind of samey. Overall, kind of meh.
Some excellent stuff in this album, it flows super well and I can understand the hype on it. However, for every good song, there's a song that doesn't go anywhere which takes away from the album quality. Favourite Song - B.O.B. - Bombs Over Baghdad
A very bloated album, could definitely use some trimming down to the standard 45 minutes. "B.O.B (Bombs Over Baghdad)" is a great instrumental but is a bit offensive in the lyrics and drags near the end. "Ms. Jackson" after first comes off confessional but by the end I'm couldn't help shaking my head in disbelief at the lack of self awareness this dude seems to have.
Yeah this is music that people like
HEEEEEYYYYYYYAAAAAAAA …OH OH HEEEEYYAAAAAAA
I think that it makes perfect sense why they would be considered so influential because they’re so diverse and different than what’s out there. Truly each song is a hit of miss, but it’s exciting to anticipate what might be next.
This is kinda nuts. I'm not sure how much I like it as a full project - still some silly/stupid skit type things / lyrics that I'm like....ok c'mon - this is stupid, we all know it's stupid, and yet reading the wiki entry is hilariously apologetic about the stupidity - like... own it at least. It's fine but a lot of it is silly. Skits are terrible. Always and everywhere. Immediate -1. But the music is so very damn cool and trying to stick this into a genre is impossible - hip-hop I guess but funk / rock / rap / frenetic trip-hop. These guys are terrific rappers even if/when the crazy paced rapping is not usually something I like, I appreciate and am honestly amazed how clear and rhythmic it is. I think I like the followup more but I want to come back to like half of these songs. Definitely time to make an Outkast playlist and keep it at that. 6/10 3 stars.
likes: spaghetti junction, B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad) it's not a BAD album, it's creative and interesting to listen to for all the creative decisions/how the music flows, but not something i'll ever listen to again. 3/5
Hip-hop, was schon mal gut ist. Aber nicht der Knaller.
didn’t Stank, Break! but that’s some Gangsta Sh*t. Toilet Tisha and Slum Beautiful gets this lengthy album on the 1001 List. Album runs long, but it’s listenable (2.8*s)
I was exposed to quite a few songs off this album and remember OutKast's influence at the time this album dropped. Stankonia is a solid entry but is definitely front loaded. The first half has all of the hits and best songs before the back half of the album mostly peters along. That being said it's not a bad listen. Andre definitely has a vocal style that stands out and they mix it up enough to keep it mostly engaging. There's a couple of solid hits that stand the test of time and still make the rounds nowadays. For some reason I didn't realize the second half of B.O.B. is such a repetitive drag. The second half of the song must have just been skipped when people were playing back in the day. 2.71 stars
Alright I suppose. Very of the time, with a handful of decent tracks mixed with a lot of throwaway ones.
This was a solid hip hop album. I think it had a lot of good moments. I enjoyed it. Not my style to listen to consistently, but "Ms. Jackson" is a classic. I loved "B.O.B. - Bombs Over Baghdad." Liked Songs: "Gasoline Dreams" , "So Fresh, So Clean" , "Ms. Jackson" , "B.O.B. - Bombs Over Baghdad" , "Humble Mumble" , "Red Velvet"
Some absolute bangers on this album, but also some real meh songs. The highs are high and the lows are mid.
There are some nice moments in this album, especially when OutKast mix genres and sounds. But there are way too many interludes, which ends up making this album ordinary. It would have been better if there was an over-arching storyline connecting all these tracks.
