Reviews (page 7 of 13)
This was fun!
Super fun listen. My only complaint is that the album is heavily front loaded. The back-half isn’t quite as good.
Outkast eru mjög skemmtilegir. Góðir kaflar á þessu sem ég lærði að væru dæmigerðir fyrir suðurríkjarapp. Bombs over Baghdad rosalegt lag.
Noice
great album! fantastic group and I definitely need to look into their stuff more. favorite track: bombs over baghdad
I really, really liked this album, but there was a major flaw in the fact that it's longggg. Like I get long albums but there's a point where it just feels way too long
Really good album which perfectly illustrates 2000. 4/5
A wild roller coaster of creativity.
There were 4-5 years there where OutKast were truly the biggest band in the world. What a great time to be alive. There’s way too many skits on this album but it’s also got some of my favorite songs of all time, so, four stars!!!
Good album but not the best outkast
Experiments with sounds and has some incredible singles (B.O.B. alone is one of the best hip hop songs of the 2000s), though it's a bit over packed and not every experience works.
Nice
good and fun, same as last time
Classic. Lots of hits but lots of filler
A handful of duds in here and could probably be just an hour, but so much quality. 4 or 5….. Sadly it’s a 4 but it’s great
Lol - Not my style and I wouldn't listen to this in any normal state, but it is really good for what it is and it certainly thumps 4 stars
As someone that generally doesn't listen to hip hop this album has been tough to rate as it's the first hip hop album I've been given by this generator. At first I was debating landing on a 3/5 as even though there are songs to like here and there like "Ms. Jackson", "Spaghetti Junction" and "So Fresh, So Clean" there's also a lot of unnecessary skits and in general I find that the album runs about 30 mins too long. However, "Bombs Over Baghdad". What. A. Track. Like I said, I really don't listen to much of any hip hop but this song is so good that it made me think I've definitely been missing out on a lot. Once I listened to the full album the whole way through I mostly just had that one song playing on repeat throughout the rest of the day. I think had this been a 45 minute or so record it'd be a 5/5.
I don't like the skits but come on, it's Stankonia. Rad as hell.
Nothing beats Mrs. Jackson. Forever...Forever...ever...Forever, ever, ever...
overall excellent, the first half is a bit stronger but just great hip hop
Excellent! Really surprised I liked this one as much as I did. Which figures, since I was 16 when it was released. Lots of familiar tracks. Very good.
I like the fearless experimentation of OutKast (or to be honest Andre 3000. Big Boi will probably continue to rap fast about being a womanizer over smooth beats for another three decades). Their sonic explorations brought us some of the finest rap and pop songs at the turn of the millennium. But the wild experimentation also means a lot of duds. Their albums are impressive but incoherent. The highs of Stankonia are incredible but there are also plenty of skips here. I feel boring for punishing risk taking here. But I prefer a shorter coherent album than a sprawling, ambitious mess.
An album I'd been meaning to listen to for a long time. Enjoyed it and was familiar with a few of the tracks anyway (Ms Jackson is an absolute classic), but thought it was a bit bloated and had slightly too many skits. Fav tracks: Ms Jackson, Snappin' & Trappin', B.O.B.
Some seriously great songs on this record. I was caught off guard by a couple songs that reminded me of Funkadelic which was cool. A really enjoyable and unique sounding hip hop record.
This is one of the greats.
one year in Atlanta, a music festival evacuated all of us (to just outside their boundaries) because of lightning (and their lack of interest in insuring us probably) - can you imagine the sheer number of facebook posts of photos of the gates captioned "you can play a pretty picnic but you can't predict the weather" we uploaded this is a quintessential "grillin out" album but it does run a little long, for me.
fun hip hop album from a couple of guys who clearly don’t take themselves too seriously. highlights: “gasoline dreams” “so fresh, so clean” “ms. jackson” “xplosion”
This might be one of the craziest hip hop albums ever. André and Big Boi pull from so many sounds and make it sound super cohesive. It doesn’t end on the greatest of notes with the last couple of tracks but 22/24 is not bad at all. Yes, I did like the skits.
literally jaunty
I haven’t listened to this full album before, though I’ve always liked the song Ms. Jackson and the next album from OutKast (Speakerboxxx/The Love Below). But many of the tracks are infectious and I love the spoken bits in between songs. I did sit up for Toilet Tisha though. I can’t speak to the lyrics on the other songs because I wasn’t listening that closely, but Toilet Tisha caught my ears because it was pretty gruesome.
This album’s whole vibe is great and it has a handful of amazing songs.
Didn’t really love any of the features until cee-lo at the end. However, almost every outkast standalone song was stanky as heck.
great features, lots of hits, rip gangsta boo
gostei demais em
A classic, though I’m kinda surprised by how much more I liked "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below"
This was solid from front to back and I actually didn’t mind the interludes. Obvious favorites are “So Fresh, So Clean” and “Ms. Jackson”
alot of this album is fascinating but there is alot to take in. This is expansive and I feel like a tighter album would have been better. one of the great albums of the 2000s
Honestly unreal.
Some of the songs were pretty decent and I added them to my workout playlist, but some I wouldn’t listen to again. I did love how they didn’t take themselves too seriously—made the album more fun.
the deluxe version of the album is a bit of a tragedy. So many iconic songs in the album with a bunch of other meh songs. 4
Very entertaining album.
This might have been a 5 star album if it wasn't for the interludes
I love this album, plain and simple.
One of the many incredible albums by Outkast. They showed their Southern style as well as their ability to mesh genres here with classics like So Fresh, So Clean, Ms. Jackson and Spaghetti Junction. Their is probably only a couple tracks I'd take off, but they don't detract from the album's greatness.
Wow this was REALLY good. 4 or5, can’t decide
Fun album in general. Miss Jackson is obviously the song I know best here.
So fresh, so clean, todella kova Ms Jackson tietty kova kans Spagetti ihan jees' muitakin aika kovia ralleja, esim gangsta shit, toilet tisha, slum beautiful, stankonia
Great album. Had really only heard the hits previously. Love the dynamic between big boi and Andre 3000. Love that sounds sound fun and hard at the same time. The interludes are great too. Not something I usually hear in the music I listen to.
outkast doesn't miss, still would've liked for aquemini to be on here too
Pleasantly surprised
Shad also listened to some of this
Very good stuff, up there with Andre 3000s instrumental flute album. Maybe a tad too long, which is why I went for 4 over 5. Simpsons: you’d think so, but I can’t find any evidence
Pretty good, bit too long and not all the tracks were good enough for 5.
Enough. With. The. Interludes. 99% of the time they kill the flow of the album. And they add unnecessary time to albums that can border on being too long even without them. With that being said. I do really love Outkast. "Ms. Jackson" is a classic for my generation. Overall a really good album, but there's a fair amount of filler too, which detracts from it.
I love outkast!
I'm glad this is on here because it's a major blind spot in my hip-hop listening. I'm really only familiar with Speakerboxxx/The Love Below because my parents have the CD. No surprise for OutKast, this is a hip-hop album brimming with personality and versatility. They're able to deliver radio hits, hardcore rap bangers, and weird detours, all while rapping circles around you. The instrumentals on this album are pretty strange for such a successful album and I'm here for it. I didn't vibe 100% with every song, but still an excellent album. I gotta listen to the rest of their stuff now. Favorite tracks: Gasoline Dreams Ms. Jackson Spaghetti Junction B.O.B. Red Velvet
Every once in a while this vibacious album would get interrupted (snappin & trappin, gangsta shit) but each time is immediately set back on course by a bop. The rap verses in many of these songs seem under the radar to me but I'm sure are heavily respected amongst the more hardcore Outkast fans. Bombs Over Baghdad had no problem making it's way into the rotation, I'm surprised I haven't heard it until now. Favorites: Gasoline Dreams, BOB
Tons of classic bangers, could do without most of the interludes. Had really only ever heard the hits from OutKast, was happy to hear most of their other work is equally boppin. Goes a little heavier on average than I expected, but I liked it (was a big fan of B.O.B, for example). Top songs: gasoline dreams, so fresh so clean, Ms Jackson, B.O.B**,
I’ve always liked Outkast. I don’t really have much else to say. Firm 4 Fav songs: Gasoline Dreams So Fresh, So Clean Ms. Jackson B.O.B. - Bombs Over Baghdad Xplosion
Pretty cool, with ups and downs though
OutKast at their best. Their albums always seem to run a bit too long but they have such a fun and unique sound that it never becomes dry.
OutKast is one of the greatest of the great rap groups keeping the ATL scene on the map. This is probably my favorite album of theirs with hit like Bombs Over Baghdad, Ms. Jackson, and So Fresh, So Clean.
Some absolute bangers on this album. B.O.B. one of the finest tracks of all time.
A lot of good stuff Great songs Great lyrics Great vocals Classic singles Perhaps too long and has skits Still is a 4. Yes lad
Owned this album as a kid but never really “listened” to it. The second half is the best, imo. Toilet Tisha is really beautiful. This album has a cool blend of humour and serious topics
Another banger. Outkast doesn't fuck around.
Banger.
I had heard singles off of the album but never the whole album. It was a great selection and I think I'm going to keep it around a while
Loving this album. I don't usually listen to hip hop, but loving the elements of funk and rock. I'd come back to this album again.
Opening with a ring modulator is a brave move. I love the use of African percussion and vocal effects in the intro, too. Outkast weave in a lot of heavy plosives into their recordings, which gives them quite a unique feel. The aggressive beats and overdiven guitar and synth puts across the same emotions of their lyrics. This album also has Ms Jackson, a massive international hit, which was a soft introduction for huge swathes of people into hip-hop. Their buttery smooth rapping is the icing on the cake.
Tons of bangers, but too long and too skit-heavy. I adore the style changes between songs and how much this feels like a greatest hits while still blending and feeling complete.
A southern rap classic. Great blending of styles. My only complaint would be the large amount of skits on here. Favorite songs are So Fresh So Clean. Ms Jackson, B O B, Humble Mumble, and Gasoline Dreams.
- The first segment of this album (from "Gasoline Dreams" to "So Fresh, So Clean" to "Ms. Jackson") is as engaging as any hip-hop album I have listened to. - I do feel that the latter half of the album sags, though "B.O.B." is phenomenal and a few others almost reach the height of that first chunk.
Fantástico disco de hip-hop alejado del gansta que estaba de moda en la época. Un disco que volveré a escuchar.
One of the most iconic and influential album of our time when it comes to rap. Compared to all the other artists at the time, Outkast's sound was completely different and refreshing.
This album is mostly a classic. The first half is phenomenal and the interludes are well-constructed and funny. The second half gets a bit bloated and the songs don't hit as hard. Although it's bloated, it is an enjoyable album that I'd give a 3.5/5 and will round. 4/5.
Awesome album, I really enjoyed this. Reninds me of middle school, I knew So Fresh, So Clean and Ms. Jackson, but I hadn't listened to the rest of this album before. It's weird, lyrically dense, and just really cool. I don't love every song, but had a ton of fun throughout this album. My favorite is maybe Snappin' & Trappin', or maybe Red Velvet (besides BOB and Ms. Jackson).
Listened 2/25/24. Had album when it came out. It has aged well. A few filler tracks, but overall a great funky hip hop record in the vein of p-funk
In the early 2000s, Outkast was essentially the gateway rap drug for white people. We had Eminem and the Nu Rock sound, but OutKast and Jay-Z made it cool for us to get down with some rap. I love Outkast. The only reason it doesn't get a full 5/5 is because I hate the early 2000s need to put skits into albums. Except for Tenacious D, skits are never funny when included into an overall good album. 4.5/5
The first 3 songs kept getting better and better with Ms Jackson being a great song. Then it became fine until B.O.B. which is amazing. Some great songs but too many interludes and average songs. Bit disappointed by the Killer Mike song too.
He is a great rapper - some bangers on there! Liked the Baghdad one.
An important album. I preferred their older, slower groove, but everything about this album was groundbreaking.
Some great hits, and some songs that I've never heard that I loved. Great album, from a great band. Throw out a couple of the less good songs and easily a 5. Would give 4.5/5 as is.
Songs about sexual fluids and immoral invasions of countries
Not bad !
Music's lyrical content is always fairly lost on me. And, yes, that's a problem with rap. Outkast are just crazy good however, and it shows here. Plenty of quality, weird and exciting bits. B.O.B. was new to me (from this album's hits) B.O.B. is 🔥. By the end, though, I had zoned out and the next track to catch my attention played when the album had ended. BREAK
One of the greatest hip hop albums by one of the greatest duos (with in my opinion the greatest rapper of all time 3 stacks) with so many bangers. This album was so influential in the scene and with one of the hardest covers of all time. The only thing that slogs this album down is the amount of skits and some filler tracks.
dirty south on top then now and always but fuck me if this one ain’t long. starting to think i probably actually just don’t have the attention span to do this challenge but i’m the baddie that watched every single episode of the simpsons in like the first six weeks of covid. if anyone is going to finish this it’s me, i’m the one, i’m number one, i’m the only one.
Probably not the hipster choice for best OutKast album (Aquemini? Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik?) but certainly the most popular and accessible. Ranging across genres, successors to Funkadelic Parliament; preferring original music to samples earns extra points, OutKast move Hip Hop forward with two versatile, original and talented rappers. At 70+ minutes the ambition is admirable but the choicest cuts appear early (Gasoline Dreams, So Fresh, So Clean, Ms Jackson, B.O.B) so the backend loses its way a little, and even OutKast aren't immune to the curse of the Hip Hop skit. Still, a refreshing, impressive and mostly enjoyable album.
I probably never listened to this album fully before. It's pretty good, but not as good as I hoped.
Dam this is a really solid album. As someone who doesn't really listen to a lot of hip hop or rap I can see how people get down to this shit. A few clear stand-outs as well as some fun skits, a great all around listen. Fav Tracks - Gasoline Dreams - Ms Jackson - BOB
Solid, great production from start to finish, not my favorite from them but still a amazing time. It is a great balance between pop rap and experimental hip hop.
AiNt NoBoDY DoPE aS ME iM jUSt sO fRESh sO CLeAN
The r&b elements are great! The hip hop elements are all good except for the rap, which seemed a bit lackluster in my opinion.
Widely considered a classic, I've never actually listened to this thing front-to-back. There are obvious classics here but the other tracks hold up, too. Very creative beats and production, huge offering of different styles. This record has a lot to offer, though I'm not a huge fan of the interludes they do work in favor of the tracklist flow. Held in high regard for a good reason!
You know it's a classic. B.O.B. is such a great track. Had a blast listening to this a couple times today.
I have not heard this album but I do know Outkast. I’m not used to listening to this style of rap music but it wasn’t bad. I recognized some songs actually: So fresh, so clean, and Ms. Jackson. My favorites were: Gasoline dreams, and B.O.B. My least favorites were all the interludes and Snappin & Trappin and Stankonia. I will listen to a select few songs again though.
An incredibly well crafted album in every regard. Lyrics, production, writing. Every part goes so hard. I really enjoyed it. Have a hard time finding anything bad to say. A tad long and lackluster structure (comparatively), but I believe they achieved what they set out to do and that’s just swell. 4/5
Had this on CD. Didn’t care for the skits 20 years ago and that hasn’t changed. Much better than what is being released today though. Easy 4.
Een goudmijn van rake beats, ook naast de hitjes
Weinig bekenden naast hey ya en Ms Jackson Maar so fresh so clean heeft een aardig stel rake klappen Net als drinkin again Wat dacht je van stankonia (stanklove)
Goed albummmmm
8/10 Highlights: B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad) So Fresh, So Clean Snappin' & Trappin' (Kende ik nog niet, gruwelijke beat en guest appearance van Killer Mike, klinkt als een proto-Run The Jewels track)
Never listened to an OutKast album before but liked what I have heard. The best thing about Andre 3000 is the quick rapping flow he has, it's great. Possibly isn't enough of it here. I agree with Jamie, it's different to a lot of their popular peers from the time and largely avoids the shit gangsta tropes. Much more eclectic than other hip hop albums we've had from the era. It isn't all of the same quality in my opinion, but when it's good, it's amazing. Highlights: Miss Jackson BOB Xplosion (can't mistake B real's voice) Humble mumble Never been a fan of so fresh, so clean, which I guess was the biggest hit from this album. I'll be back to some of it! 3.5
This is a solid album all the way through. Great bit of nostalgia for me as well. Great lyrics and storytelling and the music is just fun. Love this album!
I was never a big fan of rap in general, but several rap albums have transcended the genre for me. This is one of those albums. Solid songs, a variety of styles, keeps you bouncing. I could probably do without the interludes though.
Such a great early 2000s hip hop album, elements of psychedelic rock, funk, rock, etc. This was in regular rotation in college for me.
4.5
Too many skits and features. Could definitely have skim 20 minutes off but still great. 1st half is some of the best rap songs of the 90’s.
It really falls off after humble mumble. Could have easily cut out 30-40 mins and it would be a 5. There's some fantastic classics in the first half.
Favourite Song: So Fresh, So Clean Loved the funk and that it had something to say. Like the more melodic style and catchy songs.
Great 2000's rap, funky and lyrically skilled with a great flow. A proper album you listen through to
GOATS. 3rd best album #IMO
4.6 one of my favorite rap albums ever. Probably should be a 5.
This is an amazing vocal performance. No wonder Andre doesn't want to rap anymore. I can't see anybody rapping this fast and furious without a lot of practice. Funky and with all types of styles and beats. These guys can rap over any beat or with any flow.
Definitely deserves another listen
4.5
Loved this album but like Andre 3000s contribution more
I didn’t know this album but really enjoyed it. Tons of energy and different tones and tempos. Impressive.
Amazing debut? Album by OutKast..so many hits.
Too many skits but I love ms jackson
Familiar with this one. Tremendously high highs, but lots of skippable tracks here. Falling into that old rap trap of too many interludes. However, the highs are proof that if you have some musicality in you beats, and not just droning bass notes with a few piano notes, rap can be really special.
Ótimos beats Interlúdios ruins Bem produzido (soa bem)
Banger
VMP
Such a versatile album with two guys that compliment eachitherbso well.
Album complete
Silly music but I liked it. Didn't expect to like it at all, so had a little trouble getting into it. Can't decide between 3 and 4 so I'll just trust the people saying the lyrics are good
Ms Jackson So fresh so clean Bombs over Baghdad
Awesome layered beats funk, soul, rock guitar solos. The skits aren’t too long or corny like some albums and several absolute banger tracks
Hip-Hop is not my thing, but I enjoyed listening to this. Each piece had a distinct sound, and the overall mixing / layering of tracks was well balanced.
Not as outstanding as ATLiens for me. Still influental. Not every song catched me while listening through the Album
3 great, great songs. The whole album is clever and interesting, although I'm over skits & interludes forever. B.O.B., So Fresh So Clean, and Ms Jackson are classics.
Highlights: Gasoline Dreams, Ms Jackson, Spaghetti Junction, Humble Mumble, B.O.B. Didn't like: Most of the interludes. "Call B4 I Cum" had a really annoying hook, and I don't think I'd listen to "We Luv Deez Hoes" again. Overall a bit long. Would have benefitted from being a shorter album. Overall: Energetic, fun, frenetic at times. Amazing energy throughout. Timeless, doesn't feel dated even though it came out in 2000. I'm not really a hiphop/rap expert but the lyricism and flow are so unique and fun to listen to. Really great hooks and interesting hugely varied influences and samples. Having said that, some of the tracks are incredible, and some are kind of meh. And I don't love the misogyny even though I know some of it is tongue in cheek.
I have a fond spot for OutKast and the song Ms Jackson for the way the owl in the film clip makes my wife laugh hysterically. Ms Jackson is a standout song on this album and I also enjoyed B.O.B. and Stankonia.
Ms. Jackson, So Fresh So Clean, couple other songs on this album are good to banger level. There's a _lot_ of chaff though, Outkast is 2 for 2 on this list of albums that are way longer than they needed to be. That said, I'm still a fan.
Incredible!!!
I liked the album, a mixture of different songs with the preludes and interludes. Combined with some of their hits. Some songs were on the longer side
Brilliance
Up there with Speakerboxx / the Love Below, good stuff with a dose of goody
One of the better Hip Hop albums out there. While I'm not a fan of sketches on Hip Hop albums, they don't distract on Stankonia as much as others. Outkast packs a lot into this album at a whopping 1:13 in length. Albums over an hour a drudge to get through, but Outkast minimizes that here as well. Overall, a great HipHop album that ranks high on the list of all-time greats. 4/5.
Really catchy album. I had ms jackson in my head almost all day long.
A few hit songs we all know. Solid lyrics, mostly good beats. Some nice featuring artists. It's great, and I'm sure if this is your kind of genre and music it would be a 5-star album for you!
4/5 the small interludes are perfect
Maybe a bit too long, the album features so many quality tracks that I cannot argue for anything lower than 4.
Lots of great songs but some duds and too many interludes. BOB didn’t hit like it used to for me sadly.
I love OutKast, and the album flew by for being an hour and a half
oh my god, I'm not like 4 hours of sleep and the lyrics is going so fast, and my tiredness is making worse, the first 3 songs were understandable but 😵💫 Some songs were good but some overworked my brain tooo fastt
They are good
A nice change of pace from the other albums we've seen so far. Nice old-school rap which ,even though i prefer the more contemporary style, I enjoyed. Ms Jackson is an absolute classic didn't know it was from them. 7.5/10
A bit of a mixed bag for me personally, but overall it's great.
more than just ms jackson, a vibeee
So Fresh, So Clean Ms. Jackson Spaghetti Junction Humble Mumble
Album has lots of character, after listening to another OutKast album I can see why they have such a big reach, good stuff.
Classic
OutKast’s third best album but fantastic and maybe their most fully realized sound.
Great and full of energy!
Never listened to this album before but knew many of the songs.
Sorry Ms Jackson is a banger. Speakerboxxx/Lovebelow is peak Outkast.
lots of fun
Again a brilliant hip hop album
Whatever subgenre of hiphop Outkast is considered, is my favorite.
有几首编曲和feat好听,很多对不是很听hip-hop的我来说太没可听性了
Such a blast. I can’t walk around feeling any more badass than I do with this playing.
It's legitimately good. I'm not really a fan of hip-hop, but the songs are fun and a good listen at the gym or while on a walk. There's a style barrier there for me and even though it is really good, it's not really for me. That is completely fine, in my opinion. There are several good things that aren't for me and that's okay
André 3000 has such a distinct voice; especially in the world of hip hop. Stankonia has top notch production and, coincidentally, released on Halloween back in 2000.
Very good. This was my first time listening to the entire album. Earlier I had only heard the popular songs from it. That heavy rotation is well deserved, because this album has a few five star songs (So Fresh, So Clean, Ms Jackson, B.O.B.). Last summer I attend a music festival where Big Boi was one of the headliners, and that was a great show.
Ooh another great album! I balked at the length of this one at first, and I do think it overstays its welcome just a bit, but there are so many great songs here, including the hits I hadn’t heard in too long.
Good album. Really good.
So many hits but it’s a long album with a few tough listens as well. Prob could have cut a few from the 1 hr 13 min experience.
Good old school hip hop. Some songs I knew and others with good energy.
Great album but definitely starts to drag towards the end, could probably do with a bit of a trim. 4/5 (but probably more like a 7.5/10) Favourite Song: Ms. Jackson
Never had so much fun listening to the first half of an album, followed by a fat fucking nap through the second half. BOB, Gasoline Dreams, and Ms. Jackson all personal highlights Has a bar about taking a bitch up into the attic like Anne Frank, so instant +1 point for me 7.2/10
Some absolute classics on here like ms jackson and so fresh and so clean, which are the cream of the crop of this album packed with heat. Outkast throws a lot at the wall on here and not all of it sticks, but the ones that do, stick like glue. It is a long album but due to the variety on here it never grows old. Personal favourite tracks were gasoline dreams, bombs over baghdad and humble mumble
A wonderful, funny and diverse album. Lots of bangers.
Long but good
6/10
Fun. Bit rude
Good album with some absolute bangers on it
Oh yeah, 90s rap embodied. Sexual references are demeaning, but ever popular in the genre.
Fun
Bops
Decent. Rating: 4.4
Good album, full of funky and colorful songs, though there's an uneven quality (the singles hit so hard, but there aren't many memorable songs apart from those)
Love this album - 4.5 just because there are a couple songs I am not in love with
Dope. Maybe a bit too long.
their third best album
Never listened to the rest of this album only ever hear a couple of the songs. Enjoyed it.
Parhaita nollarin rap-levyjä, vaikka aika pitkä onkin. B.O.B on laittoman kova. Ms. Jackson tais olla ensimmäinen biisi, jonka koskaan latasin mp3-soittimeen joskus 8-vuotiaana.
Hauska levy! Tykkään kyllä OutKastin energiasta. Ehkä vähän pitkä, mutta silti riittävän kiinnostava. 4/5
Some well known classics as well as some fun to listen too beats. A couple songs hurt the flow, mostly for uninspired lyrics/topics.
love this album one of the great rap discs of all time
I’m conflicted because songs like BOB are some of the most interesting and unique sounding songs I’ve heard on this project. However I really hate interludes on albums, it ruins the flow for me, and some of the tracks are just bad, like the hoez one. Some of big bois lyrics are questionable to say the least. The album as a whole would be better if some songs were cut.
Ms. Jackson :)
супер стилево
Я уже готов был 5 поставить, ноооо потом переслушал и понял, что чёт чутка перетянуто. А так - великолепнейший альбом музыкально, текстово он добивается прям уах, осталось только перестать бомбить Багдад.
A funky nearly flawless southern rap classic. You can hear the labor of love this album was to create, the intricacies that can only be borne out of long hours spent on carefully crafted production. The only fault I can find is that it does feel somewhat bloated at nearly 75 minutes, a function of the longer length afforded albums from the CD era.
3.5/5
For the 2nd day in a row, I desperately want to give out a 5, but the album is just too long Stankonia is a 50 min masterpiece in a 75 min album. I get that it is intentionally wild, free flowing and unpredictable but it’s a little too loose for me. It’s incredibly creative and innovative. A fusion of just about every genre you can think of. It’s potentially the best hip hop album of the millennium. Andre 300 is genius, unquestionably 8.7/10
I already own this one, classic record.
I enjoyed this album more than I thought I would. They experimented with a wide variety of music styles on this album, I can hear influences of Funk, Jazz, Psychedelic and Rock to name a few. It makes for a really pleasant listening experience. The lyrical content hits all the typical hip-hop themes, guns, drugs, sex and violence, but with a hyperbolic angle that sometimes veers into satire. Fav Tracks: Ms. Jackson, B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad), Humble Muble, Stankonia (Stanklove)
Knew the mainstream tunes (Ms. Jackson, So Fresh So Clean, B.O.B.), but never really listened to the rest of the album before. Having said that, was captured by the diversity of each song, and surprisingly enjoyed the skits between songs and the "BREAK" at the end of each song/skit. Well paced album. Would consider it Outkast's 'Magnum Opus'.
Good rapping, brings back some memories of middle/high school. Definitely not kid appropriate. Also, learned some new sex stuff
Gasoline Dreams - ***** powerful vocals, driving beat What can I say? A product of it's time.
you like hip hop...you like this
Another rap album that's very long. Some fun production. Overall feels like rap made by an orchestra.
Pumpin'! It does get a little tired towards the end which is why it only gets 4 stars
A really fun album.. liked it more than i thought
This album surprised me, after hearing the intro I didn't think I'd enjoy it but a lot of the songs were amazing. I didn't expect such a strong political music either. Incredibly influential hip-hop and a pleasure to listen to.
Stankonia is the fourth album by American hip hop duo Outkast. This funky hip hop album contains elements from other genres such as: EDM, psychedelia, gospel, and rock. This award winning album is critically acclaimed and considered to be one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time. It won Grammy's for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for "Ms. Jackson", and it's certified quintuple platinum in the US. The structure of Stankonia made it accessible to all types of music fans. It has the bones of hip hop and rap, with upbeat, funky, and rockin' hooks for the pop, rock, and soul fans. This is a classic hip hop album that holds up to this day. Stankonia was a fun album to listen to and well produced. Everyone should give this a listen, even if you already know its singles by heart.
Super innovative sound production.
Finally! I've been waiting for Andre3000 since this list first had a rap album. I'm so glad they included the best of all time. Unfortunately I have to take a star off for the misogany.
Great album. Would be even better without the skits and the daft sex sounds.
Has some hits. But overall decent but not really my jam.
I've always had a soft spot for these guys. Lyrical groovy rap and laid back tunes followed by manic beats and lightning fast rapping.
This is Outkast's last real album, as it was more of a collaboration than Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, which was basically two solo albums under the Outkast name. I wouldn't say this is their best album, but I find it to be my favorite album because of the diversity of sounds and even the skits were short and memorable. This was definitely not a lean album and you can see how both Big Boi and Andre 3000 had big ideas they wanted to explore outside of the Outkast name. Regardless, this album is a must-listen for those who want to hear what Southern rap was like in the late 90's/early 2000's.
Didn't need to be an hour long, but still a classic
Only detracting thing was the interludes
- The flow is sublime - Great production quality and song styles - Too long but at least the songs are good
Honestly more mid than I had hoped for. Can’t give it 5 stars it’s got some very weak mix jobs and wayyy too many interludes.
This was dank. Definitely my shit. Fucking hype sounds, variety, lyrics. Kinda had it all. Wanna give it another listen.
Really cool album actually, quite trippy. The first quarter or so of the album was definitely 5 star terrority for me, but then it got a bit worse after that. Still some cool songs like 'Humble Mumble', 'We luv dez hoes' (though the latter is quite misogynist, like much else sadly). I think overall it just sounds a bit different with lot of acid-like elements and their rapping style works really well in my opinion.
Really enjoyed this - great production, some interesting beats and considered and thoughtful lyrics: not the boastful brags of some of their contemporaries. I know Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, so this sounded familiar. I feel like you only need one OutKast album, whether it's this or that one. One star off for the fact it could have used some editing, but not bad at all.
This was a surprise enjoy, and validates my motivation for continuing this project. It’s an album I knew just from “Fresh and so clean” and “sorry mrs Jackson” lyrics on FM radio when I was in college. Although it wasn’t all gold, it had great, relatively happy lyrics, repetitive melodies and well engineered beats. I’m not sure how many millions this sold but it earned them. 4/5
OutKast have been one of those duos that I've always said "I've liked," but I've never actually listened to one of their albums, so this is my first full experience, and this was good. I really enjoy the more regular song structured pieces, I assume courtesy of André 3000, but that doesn't stop the raps from being good too. I think if the album were just shorter (I don't know if I remember a single skit) and more tight in general, as some of the more jokey songs weren't what I would call good, then this could have made more of an impact towards me. All the big songs here, though, are great though, and even stuff like Toilet Tisha really caught me off guard with how good they were. I'm excited for The Love Below, and maybe Speakerboxxx will be good too, and that's what this album has basically made me think. Is that how people usually see OutKast? I've really got no clue. Still, solid album. Starts really strong then peppers good bits throughout.
A lot of really great tracks on this album, some incredible rhyme schemes and flows with inventive production. Some gross stuff and skits (boo), a little over-long for my taste, but overall it's deserving of its classic status. Fave track: B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad)
Yes very good, 23 years old!
re-shaper of hip-hop with many unexpected elements
The fact that this came out in 2000, which is where so much music went to die, is incredible to me. This album so close to great. "Don't everybody like the smell of gasoline? Well, burn, motherfucker, burn, American dreams Don't everybody like the taste of apple pie? We'll snap for your slice of life, I'm tellin' ya why I hear that mother nature now on birth control The coldest pimp be looking for somebody to hold The highway up to Heaven got a crook on the toll Youth full of fire, ain't got nowhere to go, nowhere to go (woo)" That happens in the first five minutes! Then So Fresh, So Clean? Ms. Jackson? Toilet Tisha??? Whereas most hip hop at the time was just albums full of pose, this one went in such a different, great drection. Is it the tension between Big Boi's fundamental rap style and Andre's grand, emotionally dynamic style? Sure. I don't know. But it's pretty fuckin' great. Where it falls short - it coulda used a little restraint. By the time Xplosion comes around - and I like that one, too - it starts to feel long. I like long albums, too. But 24 tracks? All of these tracks break through for me, but I do think to myself "Is this still going?" and that ain't great. Like, I don't know that I need 'Slum Beautiful' at the end here. Like, if this stopped after Red Velvet - that would still be pretty long, but better.
The first true good hiphop.
I think this was really great, though I'm not sure I'm crazy about how long it was nor a bunch of the songs on it. Outside of that, killer classics in "B.O.B.", "Ms. Jackson", and "So Fresh, So Clean". I like it alot overall. 8/10.
Has some definite bangers but also some unnecessary interludes and fillers. I last listened to this 3 or so years ago when a 20th anniversary edition came out, hard to believe it's been that long already!
Amazing tracks on this album but too many skits makes it a hard play through
full of classics. bangers
intelligent witty and focused. mutiple classics. andre 3000 is a kind of genius.
I love listening to OutKast and randomly hearing songs that I heard in the early 2000s! This album is good, it doesn't quite do what Speakerboxx does for me but it's still fun. I think this is one of the 1st albums where my indifference to the genre is getting in the way from me feeling that this is something truly great - that or it is indeed just good, that being said there are definitely a few tracks that swing very hard
Very fun, creative, funky hiphop with some amazing beats. Lyrics range from funny and clever to "yo bitch" type shit.
Hyvää räbbiä ja iha hauskoja interludeja. Ei parasta mutta antanu niin paljon 3 tähteä että oli tää 4 :D
Weird album, see how it was ahead of its time, production super unique yet still very 2000 sounding, singles definitely the standouts, ? is one of the craziest tracks ive ever heard
A classic for sure, I grew up with outkast and stankonia is not the most consistent but has many of their best songs, obviously Ms Jackson, So Fresh So Clean and BOB. Still there’s plenty more great songs and immaculate vibes, plus Andre 3000 is easily one of the greatest rappers in the world.
Just for ms jackson really
This album marked the most mainstream Outkast effort up to this point, by building off the underground success of ATLiens. Boasting some of their biggest commercial hits at time of release, this album also hosted notable B-sides and lyrically heavy tracks. Stankonia not only exemplifies the ATL rap movement at the time, but also highlights the heights it could achieve.
It was initially daunting seeing the track list of this album and the length. I prefer albums in that sweet spot of 40-60 minutes. But the initial worry soon disappeared once I got into this album, the slick flows and amazing production hooked me and there was enough variation to keep me intrigued for the 75 minute run time
mrs. Jackson er sykt bra
Bombastic, brash, brilliant.
It was a really really good album
Amazing album by an amazing duo.
Love this album. Gasoline dreams is great. I really liked both of these albums but 3.5 hours of outkast is too much
I enjoyed this album more than the last one. The singles are the best. I forgot about BOB. There are a lot of cool moments on this record but they don't last long. Ms. Jackson is a bop.
Break
"i don't like rap" just say you hate black ppl, we know already
I really only knew about Ms. Jackson and Roses, but I liked this album and I’m happy that I listened to it.
Never a fan of skits in albums I will take an entire star for the mar they make on what is otherwise a superlative record from Outkast. These interludes in particular aren't palette cleansers, they're straight up stupid. It's a shame because otherwise this is a five star record. Gasoline Dreams indeed.
Would be a 5 without the interludes.
Need to listen to an enjoy more. Fun!
Some songs are bangers, some not so much.
Forever? For ever ever? For ever ever? Andre 3000 sometimes seems like his lyrics are trying to catch up the beat, like he's putting too many words in. It's more apparent in Ms. Jackson than some of the other songs, though. Even though I am not a fan of interludes in albums, I thought it was funny that they yelled "BREAK!" at the end of each one. Still, I liked the flow of some of the other songs more, even "?" which was short but to the point. "Humble Mumble" was also good (didn't know Andre 3000 & Badu were a couple). I can see why this made it in, the rhymes were really good, but Andre has to not try to fit so many words in, like fitting your size 10 foot into a 9 1/2 shoe. The slowing down of "Stankonia" at the end, ha sooooo funneeeeee. <sarcasm> So probably a 3.5 rounding up to a 4 for me. I enjoyed it a lot. I remember listening to Idlewild and enjoying that when it came out. So yeah, I was probably going to enjoy this going in.
I remember when this album came out; it was big. Ms. Jackson got overplayed and over-impersonated but So Fresh, So Clean and BOB couldn't get played enough in my opinion. They were/are awesome; BOB is still one of my favorites from that era. The first 15 minutes or so of the album really rocks. I don't think it keeps that level and pace throughout - probably a bit over-ambitious with all the tracks and almost 75 minutes of album. It's still real solid, with some wicked tempos and beats, but I might rate it even higher if it was tighter.
Classic.
It was a fun album and several well known songs. I don't think I have listened to the entire album previously and I enjoyed it. It was a little on the long side though.
One of the earlier examples of the melodic shift of Southern Hip Hop. Widely influential, not always what I'm looking for
All of the songs on this album were so different, and they all hit HARD. Definitely way different from the 90s hip hop albums I've listened to so far
I really like this, but it’s a bit Pimps and Hoes for my taste. Production is great, delivery is usually on point and a lot of the content is an interesting take on things. I just can’t help comparing it to Speakerboxxx/Love Below which I much prefer. Or things going on with Quanum Projects or J5 at a similar time.
Legendary follow-up to what I consider the greatest hip hop album of all time, Aquemini. I waited for this album like a kid waits for Santa, and after hearing that first single B.O.B. I knew the wait was worth it. Outkast trancedes hip hop with their potent and expansive lyrics, diverse array of beats and backing music, and a unique style that makes them without a doubt the greatest hip hop duo of all time (sorry Eric B and Rakim). I do love this album, and it still holds up after 23 yrs, although it's too long at over an hour runtime, and the second half of the album isn't near as good as the first half. Definitely essentially listening.
I was happy to see this album pop up. I knew the hits but hadn't listened to the entire album before. My only real complaint is that it was a bit long. It is poignant, smart, funny and generally a good time. An album capable of a sit down for a critical listen or thrown on for a game night with friends.
Quality Album with good variety
Classic. Super fun!
Staaaanky, this album was great
It has a song called spaghetti junction 100/100 Real score 80 This is a hard album to rate because of its inconsistencies and interludes. Thankfully in the digital age you can just not add the interludes to your playlist. They do add slight context to the songs but I've never liked skits on albums. Most songs on here are quite good, a couple real bangers make the experience better, BOB is easily the highlight with a very catchy and layered hook. Other songs seem to suffer from repeating the chorus every 25 seconds which can get a little monotonous. The lyricism is always on point and helps elevate some of the lesser tracks on here, some are quite beautiful and poignant. Overall a really fun, creative wacky album with some luigis mansion type beats and silly grooves with occasional real slappers
7.5/10
This was a solid one! Very much felt like a mix of 90s and 2000s vibes.
Genial, pero no tan genial como recordaba. Igual BOB o Ms. Jackson son mucho
Not a huge fan of rap but I appreciate the good ones, and this is one of them, easily in my top 10 of the genre, enough to keep the non-believer listening, and if they're paying attention, learning something.
Good as expected, but honestly (I will get crucified if anyone were to see this) was expecting a little more out of the songs I didn’t know (BOB, Ms Jackson, so fresh so clean). Everything was good but those songs are the best on there by far. Not sure how much me knowing them influences that though.
Nu så! Jag hade hellre sett den där delade dubbelplattan dock. Men bra spjuverhiphop på denna plattan också.
Svängigt kul och banbrytande!
Worth my time
Some of my all time favourite Out-Kast songs, but I don’t know if this album as a whole is up there for me.
admittedly, i don't know very much about hip hop, but i know outkast's stankonia wasn't typical hip hop, especially compared to what i've heard thus far on this project. sure, it had the rapping and good beats! but it was a breath of fresh air in comparison to other hip hop albums--especially because of the purposeful lack of misogyny here. the satire song "we luv deez hoez" was amusing for that reason. progressive rap isn't exactly a common genre, and outkast might be one of the few to make it sound good. and to combine it with funk? wow! i found every song to be a creative endeavor. outkast didn't rely just on rapping for their vocals (though it is clear especially in "b.o.b." that they are talented rappers!), and that choice allows the album to not feel stale. at 73 minutes it is a long listen, but with the different genres and vocals, the time is well spent. and like many other hip hop albums, outkast chooses important subjects for their songs. "gasoline dreams" stood out to me for that reason with its lyrics. that being said, i've found myself interested in this album in a few different ways. upon repeat listens, there's more and more to notice. it's well done and deserving of its place here. but for me? it just isn't something i'd revisit frequently. a 3.5 as a compromise.
I remember when this album came out, and hearing little snippets of it here and there from friends and people in the neighborhood, and realizing how different it sounded compared to rap and hip-hop that had led up to this point. For a kid who doesn't even like hip-hop very much to note and retain that information is pretty telling. And as an adult who is experiencing this album for the first time, I believe it holds true, still: with this album, in a new millennium, OutKast changed the face of rap and hip-hop music. OutKast found a winning formula with the way they mixed funk and other experimental sounds into their smart, witty lyrics and hip-hop sound. No track on this album is straightforward or predictable; everything here sounds fresh and a bit off-kilter, while still remaining incredibly accessible. The soundscape that OutKast created here would become a staple for other Black artists going into the 2000s. Songs like "So Fresh, So Clean" and "Ms. Jackson" lead a great charge on this album, but there are plenty of other songs on here that could and should have been just as popular ("B.O.B." and "We Luv Deez Hoez" to name a couple). I have commented a lot on how the 90s rap on this project is dated, if for no other reason than the misogynistic way that rappers talk about women. OutKast flipped the table on this and rather than capitalizing on the mistreatment of women, addressed misogyny as an injustice. Again, I am not a rap or hip-hop expert, but I believe this album is one of the best and most influential hip-hop albums to be released in our lifetimes.
Solid album. can see a bright future for outkast. 4/5
Great flowing lyrics, high tempo and dark beats make up for the little bit too long runtime
Un poco largo... Funky y los primeros tracks son los mejores
I'm super happy that Outkast has a record on this list. So revered in modern hip hop, so fun, so energetic, so confident without being cocky- there's so much to like. Hearing "So Fresh, So Clean" for the first time in probably like 15+ years I'm actually just slightly little let down though. The chorus is great, but I remembered it being more than just a super catchy chorus. All of the verses and in-between parts are really subpar compared to the great hook. Having "Ms. Jackson" right after on the track list definitely absolves any issues I have hahaha. This track is so good, and solidifies why this album deserves a spot on this list (these two tracks being 2 out of 3 of their best tracks- with the other of course being "Hey Ya!"). Love the vibe in this one, love the lyrics. Overall its really tight. A 4/5 for me.
Wow! A sprawling, funky, fun masterpiece. Yes, it goes on forever....but it's never repetitive, always exciting, challenging, and different. It's like walking through a funhouse and you never know what's around that next turn. Loved the journey...interludes and all. Favorite tracks: Ms. Jackson So Fresh, So Clean I'll Call B4 I Cum B.O.B. 4.5/5.0
A premiere example of what they would later evolve into. They also evolved the genre here and found success from doing so. As a stand-alone album is great. In hindsight it’s even more important.
Yes.
OutKast wears their influences on their sleeve on 2000’s Stankonia, recalling sounds of Jimi Hendrix, Sly Stone, and other funk/psych artists. I love how they also added a bunch of local artist features on this record. Sure, their are skits/interludes on here which are pretty dated, but they’re short and non-intrusive. The production is amazing. This record was obviously very influential because I can hear shades of Kanye, Tyler, the creator, Kendrick Lamar, and much more. I cannot believe this came out in 2000. Great record.
8/10 quite long but overall pretty cool
8/10. There were only a couple of real hits, but it stayed remarkably solid throughout a long-ass runtime.
It has a lot of good tracks but it’s too long with so many interludes. Also definitely still more in the Andre 3000 camp over Big Boi. 8/10
Enjoyed a few of these songs. Most of it is too young/profane for my demographic. But props for revolutionary hip hop.
Was fun, not my favourite though
Already listened. Imo very overrated Outkast project. Not a fan of the very industrial/experimental sound they used in comparision to their other albums. I love a few songs tho like B.O.B, Spaghetti Junction and So Fresh So Clean. 7/10
4 Fantastic
