Reviews (page 10 of 13)
Was looking forward to this. I thought I liked this album but it's a little too all over the place for me. And maybe because the kids were around...I could not get comfortable with the lyrics. A few good songs like So Fresh, So clean, BOB and Ms Jackson but honestly, but honestly I couldn't get into the rest on the album. I surprised myself.
Wanted to like this. Was okay. Some tracks good, some meh. So a meh star rating...
Long album (could do without the interludes). Some interesting instrumental and melodic ideas, but it seems a bit like "let's throw everything on here even if it doesn't work..." Gets particularly "experimental" during the second half. Highlights: "So Fresh, So Clean" (interesting production with keyboards and R & B chorus), "Ms. Jackson" (very unique (lyrically, vocally, and instrumentally) especially for the time period), "Xplosion" (is that a harpsichord?, flow and vocal pitch are like Cypress Hill (makes sense because B-Real is involved). Unique banger)
I’m sorry Miss Jackson. Too much filler in this album.
Decent album, not my vibe, but still can say it’s a decent album especially for this genre.
OutKast’s Stankonia blends funk, hip-hop, and experimental sounds, showcasing bold creativity and cultural commentary. Tracks like “Ms. Jackson” and “B.O.B.” highlight their lyrical brilliance and boundary-pushing production. However, its sprawling length and occasional inconsistency detract from its cohesion, making it feel uneven. A 3/5 reflects its ambition but uneven execution.
This album kinda bangs, it's weird, it has skits, it has crazy bleepy bloopy backing music at times, it has sound effects and guitar riffs and orchestral sounds and most notably it has wacky lyrics throughout. The start of the album caught my attention right away, I like the transition from the nonsensey Intro to Gasoline Dreams, it comes in hard. Ms Jackson is a classic, spaghetti junction, a track I hadn't heard before, was great and B.O.B is crazy and energetic. Some of the songs that followed lost me a little bit, they weren't terrible but they didn't grab my attention like the first half of the album. Humble Mumble was another banger I hadn't heard before, probably my 2nd favourite song on the album. The album finishes with Stankonia which was probably my least favourite song on the album, maybe I'm missing something but I just didn't get it. Not every song is a masterpiece, but they are all very unique tracks that give this album a lot of personality, and exceeded my expectations. Some songs are 2/5 and some are 4+/5. Would give this album a 3.5/5 if possible. Fav song: Ms Jackson
3.5
I listened a bunch to Outcasts album that came out 3 years after this one. That was wasn't as heavy hip-hop as this one is except for Ms. Jackson. This is also shown in the amount of listens each song has. Their later album was much more aimed at the general public and was played a lot on the radio and MTV. I really like the hip-hop songs on this album though, the beat and flow is really nice and takes me back to early 2000s music. All the Interlude songs takes me out of the album as a whole though. I just want to vibe out to the music and a lot of the interludes takes me out of that. Take those out and you have a bunch of songs I would listen to again and just put on in the background while going about my day.
Some fine moments
Diggar lekfullheten ljudbildsmässigt! Liksom KUL att lyssna på
Some v cool songs and lyrics, just didn’t really enjoy the production or sound of a lot of it
Hip hop, kanske inte min favoritgenre, men bra groove!
Besides „Mrs. Jackson“ nothing really caught my attention. And I hab to skip almost all interludes. But the album is not bad. I simply don’t like rap.
no me gusto mucho solo unas 3 canciones
Yes, I have heard this. I'm really never in the mood for it.
I'm just so fresh so clean
This is along album and for the most part it just does not click with me. Thankfully the interludes are fairly short, but I would prefer they weren't there at all. However, So Fresh, So Clean, Ms. Jackson, and Bombs over Baghdad are just so catchy and good that I can't give it less than 3 stars.
3/5
Never heard this before. Didn't really enjoy this that much. The production quality is good, but the sum is less than the parts. The only song that stuck out to me was B.O.B. That's not enought to recommend the album.
Pretty good but not great. Love Mrs. Jackson though
This was ok but I probably didn’t listen carefully enough for a real review. Could have done without the interstitials though.
Am Anfang war es wirklich richtig cool, aber irgendwie zog es sich ziemlich ab der Hälfte. Eigentlich 2 1/2, aber ich runde auf.
Good album, especially with the hits and deep Funkadelic like funk/psychedelic soul in the backend of the album on songs such as "Stankonia". 3.5
Really fun album, with some bangers.
I think I like this album because it is so all over the place. Little did we know at the time that this was the harbinger of the split between Andre 3000 and Big Boi that would lead to them recording separately under the Outkast moniker. That, of course, led to Andre's weird flute album that everybody listened to exactly once. Also, I still dislike the use of interstitial skits or "interludes" that mar so many hip-hop albums.
I think I should have been high listening to this album.
I constantly reference "So Fresh, So Clean" in my daily life. "Ms. Jackson" and "B.O.B. - Bombs Over Baghdad" are instantaneously recognizable hits. The features list is insane. Erykah Badu, B-Real (Cypress Hill), pre-RTJ Killer Mike, and Sleepy Brown, to name the big names. One downside is the numerous skits that don't do much to elevate the other tracks. If you count "Intro", they make up 7 of the 24 tracks. "Kim & Cookie" is a little funny, but generally these snippets seem unnecessary and kinda dumb. The only real low points are the funky "Call B4 I Cum" and grimy "Xplosion". Outkast has proven themselves better than this in the past, and it's not even that these songs are bad, they just aren't interesting. "Call B4 I Cum" is meant to be sexy and fun, but to me it just seems immature and kind of dumb. "Xplosion" on the other hand seems like an unnecessary attempt at saving Outkast's street cred by making a "hard" song. All told, the good far outweighs the bad. Outkast is essential to hip-hop listening, and this may be a good entry point for newcomers, I prefer both Aquemini and ATLiens to this album.
Hits
Nice but...
Итс окэй. Ну очень выгодно выделяется на фоне гангста хип-хопа 90-ых. Лучшая песня - Ms. Jackson.
Sian review - i don't love this as much as Speakerboxxx but it's still a solid album
It was fine.
There were some fun and silly songs and I generally liked the musicality. Some of the songs are very familiar to me because of how big OutKast was when I was in high school (Ms. Jackson). Overall I don't anticipate myself listening to this one again very often because it *is* a very long album and some of the lyrics (esp. about women) aren't my cup of tea, but I do like that I listened to the album.
Not the album for me, but I found it pretty enjoyable still Bombs over Baghdad and Sorry Ms Jackson are solid songs. Some of the rap metering/rhythm was impressive.
Pretty uneven album for me. I’m glad it exists bc So fresh, so clean and Ms Jackson are great, but some real duds on here too though. Snappin & Trappin, Xplosion to name a few, and way too many goddamn interludes to make this a good album overall. I don’t need a break before AND after Spaghetti Junction
Some very good songs on there, some not as good.
I enjoyed So Fresh So Clean and Ms. Jackson since I heard them previously, but nothing else got my interest.
This is quite good, possibly a it over long but generally enjoyable.
Being someone with APD I find it hard to appreciate this album however it sounds really good. Just have no clue what they’re saying.
Has some bangers but overall too long and meandering. 3/5
Bombs Over Bagdad was good. Humble Mumble was pretty good. I thought the rest was just OK. Not so much my thing I guess.
Certainly an interesting album, but I'm sad to say I didn't like it quite as much as I thought I would. My biggest gripe is the length of the album. I think it's pretty bloated. At times, I honestly found it to be a bit of a slog. That said, there is some really interesting stuff on here. Very experimental. I already knew "Ms. Jackson" and "B.O.B." coming in, and they're both amazing. Absolutely legendary. Particularly on the latter, there's just SO MUCH going on. Frankly, incredible. None of the other tracks approach these two for me. I was pleasantly surprised by "Humble Mumble", it's actually a jam. "Toilet Tisha" is kind of heavy. Those synths feel almost oppressive. Great atmosphere for the subject matter. It's possible that my opinion of this album might change in the future with more listens. There's a lot here, and there's absolutely some gems. But based on my enjoyment of the whole, I'm gonna have to give it a 3 for now. Fav tracks: Ms. Jackson, B.O.B., Humble Mumble, Gangsta Shit, Toilet Tisha
Lots of great beats. Great flow. Unfortunately it came out in the time of between track skits, and they always pull me out of the groove.
Okay…on a second listen, I kinda like this. I’m not going to put it on for a dinner party, or when I want to relax. I guess that this is not an album that I can find a time to listen to it and enjoy it or share it with someone. It makes me more worldly and a better conversationalist because I am knowledgeable about the album and the genre. If I was in the car and the person I was with asked to listen to it, I wouldn’t be against it. And if they liked it, it would make for an interesting conversation.
It was not my all-around favorite, but I really enjoyed some of the songs. OutKast's albums usually don't work all the way through, but they always have hits.
No private session used for Spotify. It's hip, it's hop. I appreciated the lack of skits that seem to be a thing with the these types of records, though the use of the N word, as always, makes me feel like a voyeur, so much I can't listen to this on the regular.
The high points are amazing on this, but there is a few times it loses me slightly.
Some bangers on this but some muck too
3/5
I didn't hate it as I expected. It was okay
Just like the last OutKast album we listened to, this is way too long. Cut out the skits and interludes (BREAK), and cut 1 or 2 songs and you’d have a great album. As it stands, mid
Found some new tracks I enjoyed aside from the bangers i am familiar with but overall felt longer than it needed to be. Will need another listen in a different setting.
It was fine I guess.
Clever lyrics, made me laugh.
Standouts I’m Sorry Mrs Jackson and So Fresh, So Clean boost the score. Runs a bit long and I lost interest before the end. 3.
I have gradually whittled my Outkast collection to just this album, jettisoning Idlewild and Speakerboxx/Love Below. This album is also too long, but it's a single and I can just about ride it through. If it has at least two four-star tracks, the endless skits and half-formed tracks drag it down to a three.
Three all-time bangers otherwise it’s OK
Love Outkast. There are some bangers on here. Some bangers I have never heard before. There are also a handful of I would say skippable songs, including the skits/bits in between songs that just don’t do anything for me. Not sure they were trying to tell some kind of short story or just messing around but they just don’t add anything of substance to the album. It’s also a really long album that towards the end you really start to feel the run time as I found myself checking how many songs were left. Overall a solid album with a few caveats. 6/10
Hell yeah! Doom and killer Mike both showing up was dope. Good ass album.
hoez
I liked the musicality, the lush production, and the variety. It is a big album, but they did a good job with mixing up the sound environment to stay engaging. I found it a good balance of funk, R&B, and hip hop. And I know not everybody enjoys skits, but I thought they worked; they sounded like someone cared about making a blackout-speed sketch that actually had something to say. I liked some of the down and dirty treatment of sex. (I'll Call B4 I Cum, for example.) Other tracks veer into a misogyny that's almost unlistenable. I know we have to leave room for music that documents society without necessarily upholding it... but at some point, dude, you've made your point and maybe you should step away from the porn. Watch a cat video instead or something.
Overall, I think it was just ok. I can appreciate what others saw in this and in outkast in general. There's something about it, maybe the beats were a bit too chaotic or maybe i don't like andre's voice? the songs were too light, i like more bass? hard to say. there was nothing on this album that will have me coming back for a second listen. maybe as background music at a party.
Outkast's "Stankonia" (2000) is a study in contrasts. The album opens strongly with innovative hits like "Ms. Jackson" and "B.O.B.," showcasing the duo's genre-bending prowess. However, the 24-track length proves excessive, with quality diminishing post-opening sequence. Key issues include: 1. Inconsistent track quality 2. Disruptive, often pointless interludes 3. Front-loaded structure leaving latter half less engaging While "Stankonia" contains some of Outkast's most enjoyable work, it suffers from pacing problems and filler content. The result is an imbalanced album that, despite its highs, fails to maintain engagement throughout. In sum, "Stankonia" offers brilliant moments amidst structural shortcomings, earning it a middling 3/5 stars.
Favourite songs: B.O.B. - Bombs Over Baghdad, Ms. Jackson, Gasoline Dreams, "So Fresh, So Clean" Least favourite songs: Intro, I'm Cool, D.F., Kim & Cookie, Good Hair, Drinkin' Again, Cruisin' in the ATL, Pre-Nump (fuck skits), Toilet Tisha, Stankonia (Stanklove) 3/5...one or two good songs does not a great album make.... Especially a double album.
Great showing by Outkast, Stankonia definitely pushed them into the more mainstream consciousness and for what followed in their subsequent albums. Particularly with the varied experimental sounds from funk and psychedelia to rock and gospel. Despite this seeming confusion in styles, they manage to create a cohesive album that holds up over 25 years later. Best: Ms. Jackson Worst: Toilet Tisha
I like the production and samples. Fair amount of decent tracks. This isn't really for me but I can appreciate it. Bombs over Baghdad was such a sick song, an unexpected but welcomed guitar solo, hell yeah. Some tracks around the tracks particularly in the second half I wasn't don't of bring the album down
This is a competent album that is 100% carried by its hits. Obviously interludes aside most of these tracks are at best filler, and at worst fucking awful garbage. And by that I mean the song “I’ll call B4 I cum” which I want to scrub from my brain with a sandblaster. A true piece of shit. Anyway there are 4 GREAT Tracks in an hour and thirteen minutes. What an odd name for an album.
OutKast! Kings of the Dirty South, really cut we didn't get any of there other albums lmao. I get that this album has hits like Miss Jackson and So fresh, So clean but the rest was just very veeeery mid. That Anne Frank line will always live in my head rent free too. Overall just sad that we didn't get thier first album or even speakerboxxx/the love below, much more experimental and interesting than this one i gotta be real. 3/5 and honestly would be lower if i didn't know OutKast is better than this. HONOURABLE SHOUT OUT TO B.O.B shit goes hard
I thought i would have enjoyed this way more than i actually did unfortunately.
Quality control badly needed for Andre and Big Boi. There are gems, and they correctly picked out the two strongest songs as singles - especially Miss Jackson, that absolutely slaps. But it's all a bit muddy and muddled, and I could do without about 45 minutes of it to be honest.
2.5 - I liked two songs
fun but i didnt like that one sketch.
I’ve tried and tried to get into this, but I never can. Outside of the hits, it just falls short. It seems too disjointed, so I never know what is happening.
pretty punchy rap-pop something or other
5/9/24 At times and easy enough listen. Carried by Ms. Jackson.
I'm sorry miss jackson OOOH
I am beginning to feel a bit of pressure. Pressure to be a bit more harsh and specific with hip hop. Why? Because I generally like it and thus, am more likely to say "yeah, this is good" and just leave a good rating. But by now I think, "ah, but there is a LOT of hip hop out there and there has to be a pecking order." Luckily for OutKast, I think they are pretty smooth, I laughed a lot at the "breaks" and the general feel of the lyrics. So yeah, pretty good. ... ... I told myself I would not speak much of singles. After all, we are looking at whole albums here. But there is a song on this album that I was not ready for. Still ain't. You will know it when you hear it. It is soul crushing and devastating. It is like one of those movies that is just too hard to take a second time around. But (!) it shows the true depth of these fine artists and for that, they deserve a shout out.
Ms. Jackson is obviously a 5. There are some other bangers, the lyricism and flow is amazing. But I didn't like the interludes..
Sorry Miss Jackson, a 3 is the best I can do
Pretty decent liked ms jackson & BOB
The great songs are great. The rest of the album is ok to me (I hate skits!).
Personal enjoyment: 3/5 Relevance to this list: 5/5
A few songs are very well produced, while the majority of the album is really wack and sounds like two dudes goofing around to fill time in the studio. If they've got a greatest hits album, buy it and forget about the rest.
Music interesting. Style is certainly well developed. Lyrically a no.
Pretty solid. Awesome standout tracks. Not sure if I love the whole thing as much.
This album is all over rhe place, thematically. It's trying to emulate and further ghetto/gangster rap, it's trying to insert an interventional sensitivity into issues of cultural oppression and human tragedy, it's playful, it's heavy, it's frivolous, it's immersed in ego capitalism, it critiques ego capitalism.... Diversity usually signifies complexity and richness, but this variety creates an unpredictable uncertainty. Maybe that's its politics: fuck you, don't try to contain me; I contain multitudes. Maybe this is what it means to be an outcast who gets a chance to have a voice, and then shouts and sings as loudly and diversity as one can (because who knows how long we'll have the mic?) Back in the day, as a privileged white kid who romanticized the black experience in america, I loved this album...I loved the way it disturbed adults with its blatant language and explicitly sexual references. I loved this evolution of rap and hop hop rhythms (this album and Busta Rhymes albums were my go to sounds). But, like now, I had/have no idea or understanding of the lives and struggles and tragic screams and triumphant howls of these artists. I looked through the window of these songs and thought, "Wow. Cool" and then used them as background music while I was working on my doctoral dissertation. Now I think this album is a juvenile mess. But I'm still an ignorant tourist, and this review reveals more about my limits than the album's genius.
This album soundtracked my mid 20s so I have a soft spot for it. Having said that, it is not their best album and I am worried you will judge this group poorly based of an album that is bloated, even though it has 5 or 6 killer tracks. Andre 3000 is one of the best mcs ever- he broke the mould for what an mc can be and how they are represented. OutKast also put southern rap on the map and and paved the way for the south to dominate hip hop in the 2000s (for good or bad). Fresh and clean, Ms Jackson, gasoline dreams, and bombs over Baghdad still sound so fresh today. Pitchfork ranked b.o.b as the best song from the 90s. I don’t think the album works as a whole but there is still so much of value in amongst the mess
This was ok. It did not stank. Did not grab me like Method Man, or Nas, or Em, but was...ok.
ATL represent
Not bad. Liked the other OutKast album better. Also wayyyy too long.
Didn't do a lot for me. With the exception of Ms Jackson it wasn't very memorable. 3/5
Except for So Fresh, So Clean—I have to say this was a first (and last) listen for me. Not my genre.
Hmmm, it’s not too bad but wasn’t great either; passable
A bit lengthy, but I enjoyed this album much more than I was expecting. While I enjoyed the singles off of their double album more (Speakerboxxx/The Love Below), this is a much more seamless and cohesive collaboration.
I understand why people enjoy Outkast. The music is more creative and isn't just straight forward rap/hip-hop.
I appreciate the creativity, eccentricity, and diversity of OutKast's music, even though this isn't typically the type of music I listen to. I can understand why this is on the list.
Some strong pieces but scattered overall 3.1
Not my favorite, but not bad.
Very enjoyable
I'm not a big fan of hip hop, and I do not like how hip hop albums have skits and interludes, but this album wasn't the worst. Liked tracks: So Fresh, So Clean, Ms. Jackson, B.O.B.
The interludes were fab
Most certainly an album. some songs were pretty good others were alright. enjoyable. #102 (i think)
Good album. Really the only song that had any traction was Ms. Jackson...but generally a good listen.
Ms Jackson! BOB, humble mumble, ? were also great. Did not enjoy the interludes and the rest of the tracks were ok, 3*.
Not really my vibe. Knew 2 songs. It's not bad.
definitely part of the soundtrack of my college and post-college years. A few great songs on here. But my OutKast listening will be limited to the hits...
- Shoutout to some of ATL's best - Forgot how fun interludes are. - Call B4 I Come, B.O.B., and We Luv Deez are good catchy songs, but way too long - def could've been a minute shorter (And So Fresh and So Clean can definitely be longer) - One of Killer Mike's WORST features is on this album, incredibly disappointing - Though they're more famous for the more chill mixes, I really liked Xplosion - Love the production of Humble Mumble. Arguable if this is a top 500 album - there's so much Rap made in recent years I find more compelling, and the first third and last third of this album is not as solid as the middle - but Ms. Jackson definitely deserves a spot in the top 500 songs for me.
At its peak, this album is a 5. Unfortunately this album spends too much time below it's peak. I think this album very clearly influenced how rap was produced the following decade and is a really good album. A few issues I have are: Length, any album over an hour starts to be too long and needs to justify that length Interludes, I like interludes but i feel like the ones on this album don't add too much. Songs outside the hits, this album is very much defined by the top 3 songs. I appreciate what Outkast is doing with this album and will continue listening to the songs I like, Unfortunately I just didn't find the album as a whole to be at the same standard as their followup.
Brought back some memories from the turn of the century 🥲 I didn't remember all the filler and skits and such. Could use more of André rapping instead of that stuff.
Bien
Man gillar ju OutKast va! Även om jag nog föredrar deras tidigare 90-tal framför det här. Det var lite mer laid back och avslappnat på något sätt, mer old school-känsla, även om detta album är från 2000. Alla singlarna, 'So Fresh, So Clean', 'Ms.
It’s a fine album. Not my style, but good.
Not too bad an album, a couple of catchy tunes, but nothing to make me listen a second time
I enjoyed Andre 3000's flute album more.
I can see why this is clever and fun and good, but it still doesn't quite hit for me
Funky, creative and full of personality. Also overly long and with too many interludes. A lot to enjoy here, but an equal amount that I'm fine with not hearing again. Fave Songs: So Fresh, So Clean; Ms. Jackson; Gasoline Dreams
3.5 Not a lot of standouts aside from the tracks I already knew
Was going to give it a 2, but We Luv Deez Hoez got stuck in my head.
Nice mixing and production, but a bit bloated with too many interludes and several tracks that go on far too long. I know this is beloved by fans and critics alike, but it's just not clicking for me. Aside from a couple of amazing tracks this was a drag for me. 2.5 stars
So Fresh, So Clean // Ms Jackson // B.O.B. //
Bit of good stank, bit of not so good stank.
Take out the interludes and a few of the middle tracks , and you’ve got an interesting , unusual album . 4 stars with a few edits !
Great rap album! It has the sound of the 2000s. Nostalgic and heavy!
Not big on rap but enjoyed the melodic nature of this music
Political lyrics (about being black in US etc.) Some singing as well as rapping Quite aggressive, uncomfortable to listen to for a long time Nice subdued instrumentation
Se me ha hecho largo. Tiene buenos hits: Ms. Jackson, Gasoline dreams o B.O.B. Bombs over Baghdad. En general suena muy bien y entiendo que debe escucharse alguna vez y se puede disfrutar más o menos según te guste este tipo de música (ya no sé qué nombre ponerle).
There is some real charm and skill in here but this needs some editing. B.O.B puts a floor on how low this can go; what a great song and incredible energy. Makes sense to be on the list but not my style enough to go back to.
It has a manic energy. Insane amount of interludes. The singles are great. So Fresh So Clean, Ms. Jackson and B.O.B Killer Mike debut on a track that doesn't stand the test of time. The mixing and production overall changed the direction of music. The three singles plus some of the other mixing almost get this to a four.
Good album! Not my usual listening preference, but enjoyed it. Second half kinda drug on, but I would give a 6/10 overall.
Groovy and boisterous as expected. BOB was a good track and the interludes were funny
Meh
Good but way too long. I’m tired of overlong hiphop albums.
This album smells like my high school locker room.
Some bangers but also some junk. 3/5
B.O.B is undefeated, and the rest of it is good too
Honestly, I was hoping to enjoy this more. I mean, it was pretty good, but definitely wayyyy too long and not as exciting as I was expecting. “B.O.B.” was good though
Fun album.
Solid not amazing
Fine
Somewhat mixed on this album. On one hand it has many of their best tracks, on the other hand there’s a handful of tracks where the production just sounds terrible. Also a bit on the long side, with this being in the CD era and all. Also, I get that this album has all the hits, but only having this as the only OutKast album proper on this list? Come on Bobby. Good album, but they have better ones
Ja iunno alltså de e ju swag men någo saknas fö mig
Too much, but one or two good songs
So I actually enjoyed “Stankonia” more that I really thought I would… I enjoyed the diversity of sound throughout the album, and the little interludes weren’t too disruptive – as I have typically found them on other albums… Clearly this was a different style of rap as compared to what came before it, and I thought it was pretty well done… The best song on the album by far is “Ms. Jackson” – which really reminded me of another song from my past… In 1977, a band called The Brothers Johnson released their version of “Strawberry Letter 23” – with which I liked – and was very familiar with… The 1977 track is the definitive version of the song as far as I am concerned, and Outkast has worked the musical hook from the song into “Ms. Johnson” – which is what gives the song it’s mojo… Sure, the other parts of the song are extremely well-done, but I doubt “Ms. Jackson” would have blown up the way that it did, without that hook… Apparently Shuggie Otis wrote “Strawberry Letter 23” in 1971, but it was the 1977 version by The Brothers Johnson which really nailed down the phrasing and musical points of emphasis in the hook… That said – I hope Shuggie & The Brothers got paid for their contribution to “Stankonia”… : ) As for the rest of “Stankonia”, the best of the rest of the tracks included – and using my 7-star scale… “Ms. Jackson” – 6-stars “B.O.B” – 6-stars “Spaghetti Junction – 5-stars “Humble Mumble” – 4-stars “So Fresh., So Clean” – 4-stars Glad I listened, and have a greater appreciation for the uniqueness of their sound… A solid 3 in my book...
There's a 40 minute banger in here that is struggling to fight its way past pointless interludes and bloat.
More hip-pop than hip-hop... I didn't hate it, but it wasn't anywhere near as good as I was expecting it to be and I'll probably never listen to it again. Far too many skits and a bloated result that could have easily been shaved down to something a little better than this rather dull 3 star effort.
Not to my taste or style, but still a powerful album.
I really enjoyed Bombs Over Baghdad, We Luv Deez Hoez, and of course Ms. Jackson. Who can resist saying “ooooh” after “I’m sorry Ms. Jackson”? Having said that, the album is too long. Cut out 20 minutes of the filler and this would be a 4.
I really wanted to like this more. Maybe if it caught me on a different day it would be a higher rating but it just didn’t grab me as much as I hoped.
Some great songs amid lots of mediocre songs. Weird skit interludes neither improve nor worsen experience of listening to the full album ("Break!"), which somehow feels like a missed opportunity -- I feel like they could have been much funnier. As for the lyrics, again: very strong on some tracks, but pretty weak on others. Note that the second half of the album was much better than the first.
3.5
Some hits … some misses…
A fun album but difficult to listen to with all the misogyny.
Very experimental and ahead of their time. Long before Kendrick Lamar or Tyler the Creator or anyone was making 'jazzier' hip hop albums, OutKast was going full into some very experimental territories for a hip hop album. I can hear clear inspirations from the likes of Bootsie Collins and Parliament Funkadelic on this. Most will know tracks like So Fresh and So Clean, Ms. Jackson, and B.O.B, but the deeper cuts on this record go into vastly different directions in production and style. Unfortunately, I think some of these ideas did not age well, potentially as a result of the limitations of what they had to work with. Snappin & Trappin and We Luv Deez Hoez are songs for example that sound like Animal Crossing K.K. Slider beats. Some of the sound selection is a bit funny in retrospect. Gasoline Dreams, Spaghetti Junction, and Humble Mumble are all great tracks that were likely overlooked by the larger hits of this album.
I felt like this album was not meant to speak to me. I understand it was influential in the development of hip-hop. Just difficult for me to relate to as it did not feel like I was intended to be part of the conversation.
It’s not really my type of music but I still enjoyed it.
Fun, works as an album.
This is a weird album. Some absolute bangers and some really weird stuff too.
Not my thing, but I can't dislike it! 3***
really mixed feelings on this one, some cracking tracks but too many interludes and filler material to be more than a 3.5 for me
Not my thing really, but can you argue with mf*ing OutKast?!
A few songs I like, a lot more I didn’t care for. Not my typical go to genre.
Fun, fresh, funky. Definitely has one of the catchiest songs ever, yes you, Ms. Jackson.
While I can recognize that this is a good album, I personally am not the greatest fan of it, just down to my personal tastes.
Not usually my genre but I enjoyed it. Good music to drive to.
Loved this album as a youth, but other than the 3 BANGER singles, I don't love it as much anymore. Maybe I'm old...
has its moments. I appreciate it for the time period, but I couldn't really get into it 🤷🏻♀️
The Andre 3000 songs are good.
Almost certainly wouldn't have listened to this without this project. I didn't like everything, but managed to groove along with some of it. More thoughtful than I expected if I'm honest. From my very limited knowledge of hip hop, I can see why it's a noticeable album. I'm enjoying learning about where things "sit" in genres that I know nothing about.
Found myself bopping along round the kitchen to this. I only knew Ms Jackson before (24 years old, what?!) but I enjoyed listening to the whole album. Track to listen to again: So Fresh, So Clean
Recognised more of the songs than I thought I would. I think it would be an album that grows on me the more I listen to it, but 3 stars for now as it’s not something I think I’ll immediately listen to again. Very unique and interesting sound
3.5 First and foremost, B.O.B. may very well be one of the most hype songs ever written. That out of the way, I thought this album was fine. Honestly, I’m a little disappointed and was hoping to have enjoyed this a little bit more being that I’ve enjoyed everything that I’ve heard from these guys prior, but outside of B.O.B. and Ms. Jackson (another 10/10 track), this album is 50/50 in being either pretty good or forgettable. And a lot of said pretty good songs, like Gasoline Dreams, So Fresh, So Clean, and Spaghetti Junction, fall in the first half of the album, so once you’re past what feels like the peak in B.O.B., the whole thing starts to lose a little bit of steam - and that’s not even halfway through yet. That’s not to say anything in the back half is bad, there really wasn’t anything that I disliked, but there also wasn’t really a ton jumping out at me either. For a closing track, I initially thought Stankonia was kind of annoying and repetitive, but I did find the chorus stuck in my head after listening and think I was able to develop a bit of appreciation for it in hindsight. Though speaking of hindsight appreciation, the songs that stood out to me the most in the back half on my first listening were We Luv Deez Hoes and Toilet Tisha, mostly because of what seemed like hard, out of place, misogynistic shifts. Well, fortunately, I decided to read into the tracks a bit, and as it turns out, the first track is actually supposed to be satire regarding pimping and the latter is actually commentary regarding the social stigma of teen pregnancy. I guess the boys deliberately set out to touch on feminist themes with this album as a contrast to a lot of other contemporary hip hop, and if you look into it further from there, you learn Ms. Jackson is an apology to a mother for getting her daughter pregnant and a promise to stick around and be a father, and I’ll Call Before I Come is about… uh… supporting female needs, I’ll leave it at that (probably should have deduced that one a little quicker than I did, especially with the preceding skit). That all to say, I think some of the messaging on this album helped me appreciate it just a bit more. But yeah, despite having a good chunk of stuff here that I liked and a couple instances of stuff that I loved, I think the album is just a touch bloated and has a bit too much filler. A lot of the skits were misses for me aside from Pre-Nump and Drinkin’ Again, the only two I found somewhat funny, though I will say the latter gave me a little bit of dread thinking about when AI inevitably replaces all of our jobs (I know, I know, waayyy overthinking that one). As a whole, still pretty good though and something I would say I mostly enjoyed. For the time being, Outkast will probably be an artist I stick to listening to individual songs with, but I’d definitely be interested in checking out more of their albums in the future.
It was decent but not exactly my taste tbh. Nothing against it, just didn't resonate it as much as other albums. It's planned out very good for an album tho so it gets a 3
Ms. Jackson 5/5
Está muy bien logrado, las melodías son muy buenas (sobre todo en los coros) y el rap realmente tiene flow. Pero no soy muy fan del Rap.
Hip-Hop is not my thing but I did recognise 1 track from this album and some of the rest was not bad. I have not become a Hip-Hop fan and I will probably never listen to this album again, but it wasn't boring.
This is my favorite hip hop album I have heard in its entirety. I only liked half of the songs enough to listen again, but that's a big one for me, as a hip hop newbie. This project has really made me get ouf of my music comfort zone. Favorite songs: Gasoline Dreams - strong beginning, needs a relisten, bouncy Miss Jackson - oooh Spaghetti Junction - nice flow B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad) - delicious beat Humble Mumble - good energy Gangsta Sh*t - that beat was sick Least favorite songs: Snappin' & Trappin' - really not for me, got a headache Toilet Tisha - this song should've gone in the toilet, instead of onto the album
I didn't know any other outkast song than hey ya, I liked it!
Skemmtileg .. en ég væri ekki með í rotation
It's okay. I wouldn't listen to it again.
First, I hate skits. They don’t belong on albums and pull me out of the music. Ms. Jackson takes me back - still love it. Overall not a bad album.
Extremely funky with lots of humor and uniqueness.
A bit too long.
This album was entirely too long. It didn't do anything for me at all. 3 stars because my wife told me it was good. I didn't hear it, but I trust her opinion.
Stankonia is one very weird album that, like some of the electronica albums I have looked at, The songs felt like drug trips since each one had something different to offer. However, That doesn't mean its a bad album, While some songs aren't handled so well, others are handled well and can be real catchy and cool sounding when they want to be. I also love the "BREAK" shout after all the intermission tracks, i found that really charming. It isn't the easiest album to get into (especially with its long length). But if you give it a chance, You will probably find something to like about it. Best Song: B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad) Worst Song: I'll Call B4 I Cum
Enjoyable, a slice of time, reminding us of the hope of hip hop funk synthesis
Ваще не моё
Why are all these rap albums so long Ms Jackson is brilliant The rest is inventive but just get some quality control
Solid 3.5 really like this album it's solid
A well put together and unique album. A few great songs on it. Knocked it down a few stars just because I wouldn't listen to the whole album again as it isn't my style of music.
I went in expecting to hate this and this first track is fantastic. Kim and cookie did nothing for me.
I am a big fan of Outkast. I own their first 3 albums. This album made them blow up, but I don’t think it is as good as the earlier albums. So Fresh and So Clean and Ms Jackson are classics
BOB is an incredible song. But 24 songs is too many, not an incredible album.
Soulful early 2000 rap
Liked Ms. Jackson the most, not super surprising!
Was okay
An inventive album, who's cartoonish eccentricities act as a reminder as to why anyone only knows two Outcast songs
Enjoyed the second half more than the first, probably needs a closer listen to really appreciate.
gIRL this album slaps
Can recognize the skill, but just didn't hit me as much to give it a repeat listen
Genoeg hip-hop. Nu ga ik het nieuwe fluit-album van André3000 opzetten. Highlight: B.O.B.
Fun.
Canny this. Cant see me returning but quite enjoyed it. The right side of rap / pop for me too, it isnt too ridiculous in that sense. Not got much more to say: its decent, has a bit nostalgia, and probably a lot better than some of the other rap albums of its time. An extra bit credit for the guy who is spoken about in ‘Kim and Cookie’ for being a quick finisher. I feel you mate. I see you.
Generally like OutKast singles, they sound completely different from their peers, loads more musical influences. They mostly avoid the gangster tropes of other artists (there was a little bit on here) and are generally positive and fun to listen to. A whole album was a bit much, especially one this long, the second half in particular started to blend into one. I really like Andre 3000s flow and it was underutilized, should have been some more straightforward rapping and less slow crooning. Overall well worth a listen but not sure I'd go back.
The album goes on for far too long and has too much filler. There are some great tracks sprinkled about but as a whole it's just alright. Just because you call the skits "Interludes" doesn't make them any better! Highlights: So Fresh, So Clean Ms. Jackson Bombs Over Baghdad Xplosion
This album was OK. It’s not really my cup of tea, but I can understand the influence on other albums of the time I do like some of the rhythms and flow and some of the tracks. It is also a little too vulgar for me. 3/5
A fairly enjoyable rap album, with Outkast being one of the few rap acts I would listen to. My biggest gripe is the lyrics... it just grinds me the over applied use of the word niggah so much in rap, it just is so boring and predictable.
Soulful Rap from southern America. Calling Ms Jackson is their wellknown hit. Interesting vita that drives away from the cliche of other Rap musicians.
Honestly iconic
“Ms. Jackson” will forever be my fav.
8/10
Great but doesn’t deserve to be on the wall
Could use as interval training music or workout music. Haven’t listened to the lyrics. Not generally my music of choice. Though I do like some of OutKast music.
This brought back a few memories. I do prefer the double album though.
good rhythm and beat. Ms Jackson is a classic. I didn't listen to the second half of the album
Really enjoyed the interludes. The beginning of the album was better than the latter.
I don’t like rap. However, this was one of the better rap albums I’ve heard so far. The interludes were fun. The intro was good, but the moans kind of ruined it. The laughing in We Luv Deez Hoez is pretty funny. I wouldn’t listen again but I didn’t hate my time with this one. 7/10 Top 3: 1. Ms. Jackson 2. So Fresh, So Clean 3. B.O.B. - Bombs Over Baghdad
Uh
Expected more from it. There are the two obvious mega hits and those are good but honestly, the only other song I found stuck out to me was Toilet Tisha
Ok rap
Andre 3000 and Big Boi are both excellent rappers, and there are some good tunes here. But for the most part, the production remains pretty stale across the album.
Close to a 4 for me. A few tracks sunk that. Wildly creative.
I didn’t love it. A lot of story telling and while it wasn’t all that bad, I also found my mind wandering and it wasn’t as engaging for me
Alright. Nothing super ear-catching. The hits are great but everything else was kind of bleh. 3/5.
Starts strong, but then goes on for way too long.
I gave it one listen through (didn't have time for a better dedicated listening session). I knew Ms Jackson and So Fresh, So Clean, and both are awesome songs. I didn't know the rest. I like Andre 3000's voice. The various skits/interludes were "meh". I might get into this more if I give it another listen. I'm also curious to try their other albums, especially Aquemini, since everybody in the group seems high on that one.
Ganz gut, nix für background
Good, definitely a vibe. very long, lost me by the end.
AJ: always thought they were cool, but I don’t know why. Guess cuz everybody says so. I only know the hits, but the ones in here are great. And Eryka Badu is on here and Cat loves her.
Some really good jams but a lot of songs I don't care for. Was a bit long for me but I do see that for it's time it was creative album.
Not my favorite. The classics slap, but I didn't really find any other gems in this album except for maybe B.O.B which sounded like Flux Pavilion produced it. The album Kinda reminded me of Prince's 1999, especially with how sexual it is. It's also entirely too long, it felt like I was slogging through. Maybe this deserves another listen? Idk not really in my wheelhouse.
The singles are so good and so is Humble Mumble, that may have actually been my favorite song. The rest is pretty good with some nice beats and guitar sprinkled in every so often. Weird interludes sometimes though which I have learned is a huge part of early 2000s/90s hip hop albums. Solid enough album which I wouldn't mind listening to again.
Another rap album I may listen to while cycling
generell es guets album mit es paar bops, aber nid so min musicgschmack
- not my vibe.
Some good songs, but overall mid.
Didn't listen to this one carefully, mostly failed to grab my attention
Classic, I know But a bit too heavy at times with beat louder than the lyrics. There are a few bangers though
I’ve already heard this album. Probably my favorite by OutKast. I’m not a huge fan of the group, but the vibes here are immaculate.
een paar leuke nummers
The 3 singles are all strong. Also liked Xplosion, Humble Mumble, Gangsta Shit. Second half better than expected, but too much filler to rate this very high. Skip the interludes too.
Chill sympa mais pas trop mon style. Probablement une inspiration et un précurseur de plein de trucs.
A couple good tracks
Ágæt plata. Bjóst við fleiri bangerum samt.
There is some really great stuff on here but I downgraded to a 3 because I think my nostalgia/familiarity was causing me to experience more pleasure than I might have otherwise. Bombs Over Baghdad and Humble Mumble were both better than I remembered.
Funky. Some funny songs and some big hits. Enjoyable journey.
I didn't like this as much as I thought I would. Some great tracks throughout but I'm not a fan of skits and am too far removed from the context.
Couple of awesome songs I loved listening to in college. Otherwise, not my favorite.
Thought this would be better, skits are annoying and pretty dated
Some of the classics but the rest didn’t do much.
i would like to unhear the intro thank you but i have to give it a three for ms. jackson alone is it based on anything else? no. and im not sorry.
Spaghetti Junction I'll Call b4 I Cum Humble Mumble starts so strong and then I just dont care after the beat change Stankonia (Stanklove) Im Sorry Mrs. Jackson WOOOOO I AM FOR REALLLL I NEVER MEANT TO MAKE YO DAUGHTER CRY I APOLOGIZE A TRILLION TIMES Just like my other in my group, this album is already guarantied a 3/5 just for Mrs. Jackson alone and also for reminding me I don't have it in my main playlist.
je mets 3 pour cause de longueur cependant jai bien aimé
A good hype album a couple of songs on here that I do like. But definitely have to be in the mood for the fast pace busy music
Longer than nightshift that, had to listen in 3 goes, some bangers but too damn long 6.8
It's another hip hop album, which means there's a lot of singing about dicks, niggaz, and threats to their rival musicians or gangsters. A few moments stand out like the chorus of Ms. Jackson, or obviously the entire Bombs Over Baghdad, which has a banging rhythm but it's more of the same "I told you I was awesome, didn't I?" It's not terrible, it's not fantastic. It's fine.
Good. Really good. Great?
I did not enjoy it. It was fine, but just fine. What's with all the interludes. Also, it was pretty depressing.
Gasoline dreams ganska bra. Helt ok Spaghetti junction hade all start men sen fan. Bra Cum inte bra början sen väldigt bra Bob var ganska dålig Xplosion var väldigt bra Hor orna var repetitiva och inte på ett bra sätt Humble mumble jättebra Stankonia var bra slut
Liked Songs - Gasoline, So Fresh So Clean, Ms Jackson, Spaghetti Junction, BOB and Stankonia Going into this album I knew of the songs SFSC and Ms Jackson. I had heard of BOB but not really listened to it. I knew none of the songs where from this album or even what album they belonged to of Outcast. Relevent topics of police brutality still relevant today. Solid 3
The interludes, so random, but this album is meant to be listened to as a Whole, THE WAY EACH SONG BLENDS INTO THE NEXT, but for individual listens love gasoline dreams, so fresh so clean, ms jackson, spaghetti juncition, xplosion, gangsta shit, GOOD ALBUM
Didn’t mind this album; It was just too long. For every banger there seemed to be at least one mediocre track 3/5
Better than any non Kendrick rap album I’ve heard in a long time. Good beats and not too much distracting side stuff. Feels old fashioned, with choruses and straightforward raps. Dre is weird and talented and with that voice, while Boi flows with the best. Close to four stars, but I’m in no hurry to listen again, so three. Still, the hits hit and the rest is just fine.
Never listens to the entire OutKast album, cool to hear they’re more rap focused songs
I was excited for this one and I have to say I understand why the hits from it are the hits. There was a few other songs that I think deserved more hype, otherwise this one didn’t live up to my expectations fully. Still an enjoyable listen overall!
There were definitely some good songs, but out of 24 tracks I would re-listen to less than half. Maybe it is #1001 on the list?
Interesting listen
I'm glad I listened to this one with my headphones on. Another album with a couple of songs I recognize, but nothing that would make me want to listen to it again.
Tiiviimpi kun se speskerbox! 3/5
Interesting listen. Not a standout, but some good tracks on here. It lost my attention during a few songs, I think it could have been a little tighter. I enjoyed hearing Killer Mike on here, presumably before he went off to start rapping with Run the Jewels. Fave tracks: Ms. Jackson, Snappin' and Trappin', Humble Mumble
Rating - 6.5/10 Album Ranking: 1. Xplosion - 8 2. B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad) - 8 3. Gasoline Dreams - 8 4. Gangsta Sh*t - 8 5. Red Velvet - 8 6. Spaghetti Junction - 8 7. We Luv Deez Hoez - 7 8. Cruisin’ in the ATL (Interlude) 8. Pre-Nump (Interlude)
Not my style. Some absolute classics tho.
Hits still hold up. I’m glad Interludes have gone the way of the dodo.
Fine for hip-hop. Not my thing.
I saw it was over an hour and already feel like I have to dismiss it for that fact. Despite that it was great pop infused RB and rap. I skipped around a bit but the hits are unimpeachable
Good mixture of harder rapping and Prince-style sexy pop with a preoccupation with sex. Varied music. Fairly good. I already knew and enjoy two singles, Ms Jackson and So Fresh, So Clean.
So Fresh, So Clean, Ms. Jackson, and B.O.B are great. Not a fan of most of the rest
"Stankonia" by OutKast is a bold and eclectic album that pushes the boundaries of hip-hop. Released in 2000, it's a fusion of genres, blending funk, rap, and experimental elements. Tracks like "Ms. Jackson" and "B.O.B" showcase the duo's innovative approach and lyrical prowess. The album's production is a dynamic mix of beats and samples that create a vibrant sonic landscape. However, the album's diversity might result in a lack of cohesiveness for some listeners, making it feel slightly disjointed. While the experimentation is admirable, certain tracks might not fully resonate, leading to a mixed listening experience. "Stankonia" stands as a testament to OutKast's boundary-pushing approach, even if its genre-blurring style might not consistently captivate all listeners.
Fine album, not really my thing. I prefer the other Outkast music I’ve heard. The interludes were cool. Favourite song Ms. Jackson.
Good but not my taste
как-то не захватывают меня ребята, всё сильно более слизи чем интересно / ожидаешь от их имиджа
I enjoyed the energy and vibe of this album and there are definitely some catchy bits that will linger even though I wouldn't come back to it for personal listening. It could have used some paring down though -- it is too long for me!
Er staan knallers op dit album, ondanks dat hiphop nooit helemaal mijn genre is. De interludes zijn ook vermakelijk.
It's alright
The singles from this album seem to stand out more than the rest of the tracks. Could've cut all the skits and trimmed out half of the features. Tightened down the album to like 12 of the best tracks, with Andre taking the majority of the verses. He has that wild flow, but most that wasn't him was iffy.
- classic, enjoyable vibes - a few all-timers
This album has a few really good songs, the rest I can do without. The good ones are: B.o.B., Mrs. Jackson, and So Fresh and So Clean, I’ll Call Before I Come. Mrs. Jackson brings back great memories! 3/5
I really wanted to give this album 4 stars. After the start with "Gasoline dreams", "So fresh, So clean" and "Ms. Jackson" but then there is so much stuff that i didn't enjoy as much. The amazing "B.O.B" comes saving some of the weaker tracks. I even liked the juvenile "I'll call B4 I Cum" But it has to be a 3 stars due to the long running length.
Not my favorite OutKast album, but it is a decent listen. "So Fresh, So Clean" and "Ms. Jackson" are certified bangers though.
I can really appreciate background. At least on some tracks. It was close to get 4 but then I get tired so I guess it is 3.
Good
Album 115 of 1001 Outkast - Stankonia Rating : 3 / 5 The only Hip Hop I've ever purchased is Outkast's Speakerboxx/The Love Below, so I was good with checking this out. Not my preferred genre, but don't mind listening occasionally. Doesn't rank with the previously mentioned title but not altogether bad. Just not really my thing - nor did they intend it to be. I can recognize whether something is worth a crap or not (within its genre); this is, at least, that.
B.O.B. was fun but I don't think I really needed an hour plus of Outkast.
I do enjoy Outkast but mostly the most famous hits - So fresh, So clean, Mrs Jackson, B.O.B. After a few hip hop and rap albums, I really don't enjoy talking interludes or random noise interludes. Always takes me out.
Good
You're never gonna guess what I'm gonna say about this album... It doesn't need to be over an hour long. That's it. All I got.
Great album!
