Team Blur for the music, Oasis for the swagger - and sometimes a bit of swagger is what you need

Overall just some good rock. I'm enjoying it but not really noticing specifics. It doesn't grab my attention but it totally doesn't need to. 4/5 stars.

Yeah, it's just really god damn good. Favorite track: Cigarettes & Alcohol

Great debut but slightly empty sounding

Easy listen.

You can tell these two brothers really love each other and get along great by how good the music is!

Great debut album. Live forever and supersonic are the best songs on the album, Just a solid album all round.

4/5 - very good album overall, classic oasis

I've been kidnapped and taken back to the 90s!

Any songs known?: Yes - 6 - Rock 'n' Roll Star - Live Forever - Supersonic - Cigarettes & Alcohol - Shakermaker - Up in the Sky Favourites?: - Rock 'n' Roll Star - Live Forever - Supersonic - Up in the Sky Least Favourites: - Columbia Thoughts?: Not my favourite Oasis album but still has some bangers on there Album art: 5/5 - very famous album cover!! Overall score: 4/5

This was an interesting one for me and hard to rate. Got stronger towards the end of the album. I love Noel's songwriting and guitar... But hate Liam's voice tbh which pulls it down. However, Live Forever is an AMAZING song and some great tracks towards the end as well bring it up.

I actually liked it! The accent that annoys me on Wonderwall added a lot to this album. Very solid rock album.

These guys may have been total idiots (sorry: wankers) but they wrote damn great pop songs. The usual Oasis critiques apply: Liam's voice can irritate after a while and the mix/production is a dense sloppy pile of shit. The fact that this is still catchy-enough to rise above that is a testament to how good a debut it is. Extra points for beating a lot of the crappy and miserable contemporaneous low-fi/grunge that was happening at the time. Sum: Songs are good-to-great; not quite on par with their next album, but the mix isn't as bad as that one either so it almost evens out. Great fun - bring back the early 90s. 7/10 4 stars.

Kinda disappointed tbh.Not as good as the second album thoigh it still has some bangers. The sound is extremely noisy and sometimes the drums are way too loud in the mix. Also it just steals the riff from “get it on” on “cigarettes and alcohol” like just directly, which I wouldn’t mind if the song was better than get it on but it’s not.Albums is till pretty good though, just not great.

Solid 3/4 Kind’ve lulls at the end but still solid rock overall. Would listen again when in the mood for heavy-safe.

7.5/10 Perfect day stands out the most Mostly good songs

Liked this better than what’s the story, although it’s similar enough to not really be necessary on this list. Supersonic and Married with Children were the faves.

More great power pop rock and roll from this band. Yes, there are some lifts directly from the Beatles. So what? Noel Gallagher is a sharp, witty and sometimes acerbic songwriter. My favorite songs on this are Rock and Roll Star, Supersonic and Live Forever. They deserve to be the kings of Britpop!

Another debut album with an iconic and powerful mission statement as track 1. This is nowhere near as good as their next record, but it is still rock solid and gives a good hint of where they'd go. The Beatles influence on the melodies are clear here too.

BL: this was one of the first albums I ever bought on vinyl when I was younger (I wanted to be a hipster so bad), and I remember listening to this once or twice, I think as I’ve aged my respect for their impact of the game has risen but my like for their music has dropped, so I’ll see where I stand with this AL: this held up better than I expected it to. While I do feel like a lot of the tracks are just OK, there are no songs which I find particularly bad apart from the opener which suffers from being about 2 minutes too long. There are some songs which I didn’t appreciate before which i can now being a bit more mature (“Columbia” and “Married with Children” specifically). All in all surprisingly impressed with this album FT: “live forever”, “Columbia”, “Digsy’s Diner”, “Married with Children” 4/5

This was actually better then I thought. I never liked them because of their hits but this has changed my mind!

Oasis are great and the bangers on here are top notch, rock and roll star possibly being their best song. Noel Gallagher is a top notch songwriter which means the 'lad rock' thing is just their style on top of this, as opposed to most of their copycats where being geezers is their entire thing. I think Morning Glory is a lot better than this mind, a lot of the album tracks sounded like variations of the singles and nothing really stood out. I would probably be a huge oasis fan if their lyrics weren't so awful, some of the worst of any major band. Generally speaking the less Liam is involved the better.

It's alright isn't it really. Oasis passed me by a bit, I was a little too young, but I can imagine if I was listening I'd be hyped for where they would go next. Supersonic is pretty good, and I'd say the closest to the hit parade of (What's the Story) Morning Glory.

I really enjoyed this! it's good to hear somewhat older music giving perspective to my favourite artists' inspiration.

I remember the first time I heard "Live Forever"... Actually, I don't. In my head, it was the same day as the OJ Simpson chase. But, unless the single was on rotation on MTV a good six weeks before its release, that can't be right. (Yup, I checked). Anyway. I wish I could hear it again for the first time. I really do.

It was great but it overstayed its welcome

I liked it, even not knowing why. Sometimes it is hard to explain stuff...

Although I'm pretty much ideal age to be a fan, this is my first time listening. I hated Oasis in their pomp in the 90s (I was always a contrarian) but the swagger to this album is undeniable. The lyrics are largely nonsense, the music hilariously derivative but some of these tracks make you feel like a god

Another good album from Oasis. Just more great songs, though not as good as (What’s the Story) Morning Glory. ‘Live Forever’ is probably my favorite song of theirs, though. Fun fact: this makes Oasis the first artist with multiple albums I’ve got all albums from. (Doesn’t really make much sense as a sentence).

It's not a surprise that Oasis was so popular, as this debut album is well written, performed, and produced. The Gallagher's had a good sense for quality in all aspects of album production, and it shows here.

Some parts I loved but the whole album was too forward driving and repetitive

Sin duda el mejor álbum de Oasis. Ideas frescas, rock puro y mucho ego.

If you ignore the fact that the Gallagher brothers are a pair of numbskulls it's a bloody good album.

Yea the overall vibe of this one was good

"trousers" Great album from a songwriter perspective but Liam's voice is very jarring and puts a taint on them.

Surprised this one was easy to enjoy for me. Assumed it'd be a bit annoying, too brit poppy. But it was just easy going 90s British rock. But not so overly over the top British to be annoying. Felt like if the Who maybe if they were a 90s band. So that's good

Well hooray, a decent album after a run of dross. Maybe not even their best but enjoyable nonetheless! It’s got to be 4* but that could be high due to listener’s relief !!

Possibly not as good as I'd remembered but still some absolute bangers and a good summer album.

A perfect synthesis of brit rock of all ages from the Beatles and Stones to T-Rex to Jesus & Mary Chain. Just like Nirvana pulled off with Nevermind, this album summarizes an entire lineage of rock music with just the right pop songwriting approach to make it their own and break the mainstream. Noel's derivative lead guitar work is excused because of his songwriting. -1 star because the wall of guitars does wear you out a bit and while all songs are great I don't think they're all instant classics.

Just a pretty sweet alt rock album. Reminds me a lot of the other stuff on creation at the time, just poppier.

not as good as morning glory, still good. live forever, columbia, supersonic, married with children

Still magnificent, albeit recorded in mud.

A classic in British alt rock music. The first album by oasis is nothing short of outstanding and a way to put a band on the map. Probably their second best album behind morning glory. This one has some solid catchy songs. It’s a shame the brothers couldn’t get along because they made great music together. Overall this is a relisten and super enjoyable for anyone that was young in the 90s and 00s. 8.3/10

Not going to pretend like I didn't enjoy this just so I can be as pretentious as everyone else. This was a solid album with nice layered guitars and vocals. Cover also goes stupid. 3.5/5

It's amazing how quickly they had their own sound (with the obvious beatles influence) You can hear where they're going, but they're not quite there yet. A few too many filler tracks brings the score down from perfect, but always worth a listen. Best songs: Live forever, rock 'n' roll star, cigarettes and alcohol.

Very good

Strong 4, kept reminding me of DMAS in a way

I have such a complicated relationship with oasis. At the time, I sneered at them as much as they sneered at everybody else. I was into blur. Or better yet pulp. Are they simplistic, radio friendly, and steal? Guilty on all counts. Dude straight up lifts a melody from a coke commercial. I guess those issues just don’t bother me as much as they did. Now when I listen I feel a heart felt nostalgia from an experience I never had. “Live forever” soars. They reached greater heights. But for me this album feels the most real.

Classic init

B-sides are better, they should've included them and removed some of the duller tracks.

Genre: Punk Rock Review: Pretty good. Reminded me of some of the older English bands like The Sex Pistols, Clash etc. Certainly some influences there. I'd like to listen to more of them. Heard good things, and listened to some good tracks here too. Rating: 7/10

Never listened to Oasis before - I get it now.

Cool. 4 stars

On first listen I thought this is not as good as their follow-up. And after multiple listens, I still believe that's true. But there's definitely a bunch of rocking songs - most of them really. I think Rock n Roll Star, Up in the Sky, Bring it on Down, or Slide Away might have been even better choices as singles than Shakermaker or Supersonic. Live Forever was a good choice as a single - good lyrics and composition from Noel but a bit of those flawed Liam vocals. That might be the biggest place where this album leaves something to be desired - I can picture my buddy from Southampton doing his best Liam impression and singing the words sheeeeine or actsheeeeeion (it's just shine and action, alright?). His vocals got better over time but flaws really on display here. Still, for the rocking it's solid. And no doubt they ushered in a new era of rock.

I just came into this album really only knowing Oasis’ singles and was not expecting to be too thrilled by it. I have to admit that it’s a pretty solid album though. Liam’s voice can get a little irritating sometimes, but the songwriting is good and I do like the guitar sound on here. “Columbia” was a particular standout for me with its driving rhythm, especially towards the end of the song. “Bring it on Down” was another one that I really enjoyed. I’m starting to think that the non-single tracks off the album are better than the singles. It’s a 3.5 album but should I round up? Definitely maybe.

Irresistable tunes for the most part, performed with that typical cheekiness.

So cool! Picking up a 60’s/early 70’s mods vibe, but then adding 80’s indierock, making it unique at the time. Still love it today!

Very positively impressed! I like this album!

(What's the Story) Morning Glory? is a far superior album

I like the sound of the entire album, but really like 3 of the songs in particular. I probably wouldn't skip any of them if they were to come on the radio, though. Very good, influential album! :)

Highlights: Rock'n'Roll Star, Live Forever, Columbia, Slide Away

Highlights: Up In The Sky, Married With Children

5 ⭐️ for effortless cool and a plenitude of hooks, minus 1 ⭐️ for everything sounding kind of the same

Am I including this historical album filled with iconic cuts in my own list, as flawed as said album is sometimes? *Shall* I include it, in spite of a guitar wall of sound that didn't age that well, and a couple of annoying fillers in its tracklisitiing? Definitely Maybe. Number of albums left to review or just listen to: less than 700, I've temporarily lost count here Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens:  approximately a half so far  Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: a quarter (including this one, most probably) Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more important): the last quarter

It was nice familiarizing myself with Oasis' music as I always wanted to get into them but never got around to it. I thought the album was pretty good and recognized maybe one of their songs from elsewhere. Nice listen. 8/10.

I think cramming multiple days of homework into one may have resulted in less love for this album than I could have had. I listened back-to-back with some other 90s rock, and although I liked this album more than that one, as it had a lighter feel, I was ready to move on to something else.

This one and the (even better) Morning Glory album are their claim to glory, afterwards, Oh Well... Like their f-you-attitude, the way Liam spits out the words when singing, the raw sound, very much inspired by the classic Brittish guitar sound. This one 4 stars and the Morning Glory will get 5 if it will be included in the 1001 albums.

those britpop boys knew what they were doing. blur is and always will be better, but rock and roll star is a fucking classic

Pretty good, the production quality on some songs is a bit questionable 🤔

I’m starting to think this list is very partial to UK-based artists. Anyways, this is the Wanker Brothers’ debut record. Right off the bat, the production is garbage. Very muddy wall of sound style guitars. Can get fatiguing to listen to. But luckily the songs are pretty good so it kinda makes up for that. They are probably the most polarizing band of all time but you can’t deny this is just a massive debut record that immediately boosted their popularity. Using meth before going onstage certainly helps.

Good but morning glory is better

Oasis are a fun band. They clearly pride themselves on delivering premium rock: loud guitars, big energy, plenty of attitude. But at the core of their songs there’s always a seed of a catchy melody. Good pop songwriting and singalong choruses are just as important to them as blaring feedback and guitar solos. They clearly worship The Beatles; aside from an explicit reference to “Yellow Submarine” on “Supersonic,” there are little moments here and there that remind me of other Beatles songs. Also Liam Gallagher kinda sounds like John Lennon sometimes. Ok so here’s my funny line about Oasis: You know how you get a Coke bottle sometimes and it says ‘Made from 40% recycled plastics’? Oasis makes music from 40% recycled rock songs. Listen to the beginning of “Cigarettes and Alcohol” — they totally rip off the opening riff of T. Rex’s “Bang a Gong.” A bunch of times throughout this album I thought, ‘Ooh that reminds me of something,’ but for some reason I give them a free pass when they copy other artists. It feels playful when they do it. They drop in a melody or chord progression from another song but then change it up and do something different with it. It triggers a memory in my brain, makes me smile and that nostalgic feeling for classic rock transfers onto their music. Oasis are rock star pros. They know what they’re doing. (Btw, I love how he sounds drunk on “Cigarettes and Alcohol” - that’s a fun touch.)

Oasis is amazing. I've never followed them so deeply to know them beyond their singles but this list has been great at making me do these deeper dives. And to be honest I don't even think it's so much of a deep dive to check out huge records by huge bands. Just somethin ya gotta do. I love the in-the-pocket laid back drum groove on "Columbia". Really tight and really fun hearing the vocals and drums BOTH feel like they are dragging the song- but they are doing it together and are juuuust aligned enough that the song keeps slithering along. This one apparently has been in a back-and-forth with people when they ponder which Oasis album is the best one. I try not to let outside opinions interject into my thoughts too much on this project but I just read an article that claims that this album has more 9/10 to 10/10 tracks on it- that it's more consistently strong than "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?". I gotta say though- "Wonderwall", "Don't Look Back in Anger", and "Champagne Supernova" all being on ONE record and that record not being the BEST record for a band is wildly impressive. I'm also trying to not let bands other releases change my ratings too much here but to me this isn't as good as "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?". It's a really solid album but maybe not a 5/5 for me. I think it's like a 4.4 and just short of being high enough to round-up. I love this album cover too. I think the 1990s is my favorite era for album covers. They tend to not stick SO tightly to a visual style/aesthetic (like the 70s, 80s albums did), but to me felt more guided by the content inside of the image and what's going on in the scene. Maybe the 90s were more the start of this idea rather than a decade that is unique in this; because now that I consider it I don't think the 2000s or 2010s really were so glued to the visual decade-vibe like the 70s and 80s were. I might not be wording that to well but I think it would be a great discussion to have!

classic max-out-the-levels Oasis

18 ans encore

One of the pillars of BritPop

Is Oasis overrated? some might think so, but I still love them. Something about just making fun and enjoyable music that still speaks to your teenager self makes this a great album.

this was great! really liked a few songs on here

I really liked this album. Oasis can rock pretty hard. Fav song was Live Forever.

I have/had (not sure which) this on CD but don't think I ever really listened much. This was generally pretty good, I enjoyed it.

Yeah, solid 90s rock. That last track tho

Still diggin the 90's Beatles

Very good, not 5 stars. Blends together after a while

Maybe I need to explore britrock a little more huh

Rock N Roll Star sounds like an ode to Kurt Cobain and The Beatles almost, with the loud guitars of the early 90s but the fun pop sound of the mid 60s. Shakermaker is loosely based on a 12 bar blues and a catchy riff. The vocals on this track are fine. The song doesn’t seem to resolve very musically, or at least upon first listen to my ears. Live Forever’s composition sounds very Pop Radio oriented, especially the chorus. This song is fine, perfectly fun. Up In The Sky has lyrics that are dripping in Generation X angst. “I heard that the shine’s gone out of your life, well that’s just too bad, welcome to my world!” Noel Gallagher was likely listening to the American Grunge records that were globally popular. Supersonic is so simple yet so catchy; it makes sense why this was one of the leading singles for this record. Bring It On Down is short, sweet, and to the point. How this wasn’t one of the leading singles for Definitely Maybe blows my mind. I can’t really comment on anything else, it’s all similar in Pop fashion. Overall, this record is a very fun listen. I can hear Noel Gallagher’s angst all over this record, and it hasn’t ever been more fun. These guys definitely like Shoegaze, Sex Pistols, The Beatles, and Achtung Baby era U2. Liam Gallagher is a moron. 3.75/5

This album started off slow for me. After the 3rd song it really became a winner. Other than wonder wall I've never bothered to give this band a listen. That changed today. These guys can really groove, the something is good as well as musicianship.

More energetic than I expected. Fun guitar-driven pop-rock

blur better

Standouts were Columbia and Slide Away. Lead singers voice is very nostalgic for early 2000s

Some bands take years and several albums to find their voice, Oasis come out of the gate, glass the waiter, steal someone's pint and leave. Its got to be up there in the best debuts. Oasis get a bad rep for being overly simplistic rock and roll for football hooligans. And I get that viewpoint, I do, but those people should lighten up, its great songwriting done well and with attitude and the wall of guitars sound is timeless. I absolutely adore the opening bars of "Live Forever", its a classic musical moment and for that reason id probably point to it as my standout song. I'm only not giving this 5 stars by its unfortunate virtue of not being "(What's the story) Morning Glory?". Its not Definitely Maybe's fault of course but sometimes you get overshadowed by your more successful sibling.

4 A welcome surprise. There’s a lot I could say about Oasis, but I’d like to save most of it for (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? - And if it didn't make the list, then I guess those thoughts go unpublished. For now, I’ll say high school wouldn’t have been the same without the band. Anyway, regarding this particular album, while not their best (I would put it under both the aforementioned and Masterplan personally), this is still a classic 90s alternative rock record and among Britpop best. Rock n Roll Star is a great opener, and I’ve loved it from the second I first heard it in the form as You All Everybody by Drive Shaft on Lost (it’s the same song and you can’t convince me otherwise). Supersonic, Live Forever, and Cigarettes & Alcohol are of course certified classics, but there were even a few songs here and there like Shakermaker, Up in the Sky, and Bring It On Down that I had forgotten about and enjoyed more than I remember. Not every song is a banger, but they’re all at least pretty good. Far from the first time I’ve heard this one, and while I don’t think it’ll ever be the Oasis album I return to most, it’s definitely one I’ll re-visit from time to time again.

Pretty good! Added about half the songs to my Spotify

Excellent in an unassuming way, which is not what I have been primed to expect from Oasis. This is an album that, at first blush, I can say has a moderate amount of filler that still deserves to be there. That's not an impression I'm used to having, but the sequencing of Definitely Maybe does the job. The seamless runtime has me getting some of the Oasis hype without bringing to mind any particular song highlights. Simply a solid rendition of British musical past, present, and niche.

not sure I'd ever listened to this entire album before and think I preferred to whats the story

OH LOVE OASIS. Many people hate them and call them generic (including my dad) but idc. Not their best album though. Fav tracks: live forever, slide away, supersonic

Got a couple classics really good over-all album for me

Definitely Maybe wasn’t the first Britpop album, but Oasis’s debut is arguably what made the genre into a phenomenon. Rough around the edges, but has a delightful sneer.

Cool album. At first I thought it was kinda trash but there were a a few bangers nd i was like oh shit nvm. Slide Away, Columbia, Supersonic are the standouts. Probably would like it more with concurrent listens, but rn I'm feeling a 7.5/10.

There weren't any songs that Really grabbed me but I did enjoy their sound overall and I thought it was very consistent for the whole album. This would be a good record to put on while you're making, like, a moderately complicated dinner.

favourite song: cigarettes and alcohol least favourite song: columbia

Great album, what’s the story morning glory is the shining album, but good tracks on this one as well.

It's not the best Oasis album but it sets up everything that makes "Morning Glory" the best. It's all here, they just hadn't quite figured out how to dial the Oasisness up to 11 yet. It's still a damn good album.

Great opening song and generally great album

Excellent record

Even though I don't think I've ever heard this album, I've heard this sound. I got some serious nostalgia from when I was a teenager. Felt good man. I did not expect to like this album as much as I did.

very good album, surprised me a lot. I was convinced i wouldn't like this but i was very surprised. Songs like supersonic or rock and roll super tar were my favourite

9/12/2022

1994. Live Forever, Rock 'n' Roll Star, Supersonic

Oasis have an annoying trait of making a solid 3 minute song last for about 5 minutes despite clearly running out of ideas That being said, this album has some of their strongest songs - opener Rock n Roll Star is the major exception to the above rule, Live Forever is a great time, Supersonic is silly but fun, and Married With Children is a lovely little closer. It really drags in places though, and Shakermaker is downright awful

Britpop de Oasis. Está bien. Un 4.

Great album

A solid fun album, Live Forever is an absolute classic and one of my favourite songs. However, there are some tracks on here which aren’t as good, dragging it down from a 5.

Great example of what 90’s British Grunge was then. Cigarettes and Alcohol was my favorite

Classic, worn out tape memories.

Leonard e crazzy

Great album. Production could be better I think the tracks could hit more. Live Forever is a fantastic track same with Rock n Roll Star.

More rock-y than I thought Oasis was I liked it a lot, hadn't heard any of these songs. Just the most popular by Oasis Would be 4.5 stars

Oasis tried really hard to be the Beatles of the mid-nineties. I'd argue that they succeeded in many ways. The music is clearly rooted in the Beatles, they blew up fast and ended quickly, they were dysfunctional in all the most interesting ways. Liam and Noel. John and Paul. Which one was the real talent? Who needed who more? Anyway, this band was like the soundtrack of most of my high school career. Love it. "Morning Glory" is better, but this is a solid album. Married with Children is the perfect song to end on.

Cracking debut! Favourite track > 'Supersonic'

oasis is trying to do a beatles-stones crossover thing and they end up being worse than both, but this album is still very listenable. very much of its time, but it’s of its time because it inspired a lot of other people. not my favorite but solid overall

Always been more of a WTSMG fan, but I can see how the rawer guitars and mad-fer-it attitude of the debut would be some people’s preference, especially if they were aged ~12-25 when it came out. Plus, it’s got Live Forever, Supersonic and Slide Away on it, which are worth most of my 4.5 star rating on their own.

yeaaaaaaaaaaaah BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

A fantastic album, full of excellent albeit very familiar material. The standard is high throughout, with only one to two tracks dipping a little.

I like Oasis much more than I thought I did.

Oasis is one of those band I hadn't bothered to listen to beyond a couple of their best known songs and I've probably heard more about their personal squabbles and gossipy news stories than their actual music. This is my first full listen to this album, Oasis's debut, Definitely Maybe. It definitely makes an impression, as the music is catchy and rocks out pretty good and it definitely has it's moments. I don't know if the band deserves all the hype they received when it was first released, but the music stands up as above average and I must admit I enjoyed it. The band might be overrated, but on this album, they "put their money where their mouth is", an excellent record.

Essential 90s culture and a seminal BritPop album. Do I think the lyrics make sense? Nah. Are they catchy? Yeah.

I like What’s The Story better but this one is sick

From the first to the last minute you're covered in this wall of guitar sound that could either pick you up or annoy the hell out of you. I'm in the former camp and consider this debut of Oasis as their best album. The strong songwriting of Noel and the fact that Liam actually did show up to the studio these years to sing the songs (which he does a lot better than his brother) makes this a raw rock 'n' roll album. Some songs are indeed a bit better than others, but songs like Supersonic, Slide Away and Live Forever are standing strong. And I don't care that Cigarettes and Alcohol is a complete T.Rex ripoff. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Personal Enjoyment: 4/5 1001-Worthy: 5/5

hmm, yes. Pretty decent

I do love Oasis but there were some slight duds in here that keep this from being a top album for me

Ay pussio

90's Brit pop classic. Some good music, nothing revolutionary but a fun listen. I use to think What's the Story Morning glory was there best but I think I like this more.

When Definitely Maybe first came out they led off in North America with Supersonic , which wasn’t my bag, though it has since grown on me. If they’d led off with Live Forever, like they did in the UK, I’d have probably been on board sooner. I find this album a mixed bag, but it’s one of my favourite recorded acoustic guitar tones. Slide Away always strikes me as a missed opportunity, because it really told us which way they were heading, but they used it as a b-side.

I hate that I love this album. But it's an annoyingly good album, it can't be denied!

A really good Brit pop record, not great but pretty well crafted. Morning Glory is better, but this has all the elements: hooks, sing a long choruses, interesting if not classic guitar play.

Only recognise a couple songs off here, but a proper solid album.

I'd got so used to Oasis being a plodding, dull band for plodding, dull, Brexity arseholes that I'd forgotten the first album is actually pretty good. I think their biggest mistake was losing the drummer - this is a more energetic, driving album than anything that followed. Live Forever and Supersonic are canon. Cigarettes and Alcohol and Shakermaker are okay, but overrated. The lyrics are crap, the music is fun. They've punched above their weight since 1995, but this was better than I was expecting.

Lite för långt o lite för same same

Rock ‘n’ Roll star and Live Forever were best for me, but could be because they were earlier on album. By the end of it I’ve felt like I’ve had too much of the driving guitars. I think I liked it more twenty years ago. Very reminiscent of the 90s, iconic. Musically an important album historically, but hasn’t aged as well as it could have IMHO.

A classic! Not always original but with a lot of attitude and some great songs.

Partly nostalgia, but also this is still full of big tunes and singalong choruses.

Po pire

Still classic

Slide Away is the standout here. They have many really good songs, but I fall off a bit the more they resort to cliched rock wall of sound with a Sex Pistols whine and sneer. It’s fine, but their melodies with supersonic and slide away are where they shine.

Pretty good!

Used to love this album. Brings back memories to re listen after years.

I always enjoyed Oasis, but I don't think this is their best album. It's very good though, and glad that I listened to it again.

Favorites: Bring It On Down, Cigarettes & Alcohol, Slide Away

Wow, maybe Britpop is good.

Incredibly solid album and one that I've gone back to over the years time and again. Sure it will never be Blur for me, but it's damn good.

Still a great album of my youth, I had it in my head I preferred this album due to it being a bit rawer, but listening now not as good as def maybe.

Classic!

More fun than I expected. Still, the nasally drone started to wear on me.

Cool album. The music is a bit on the loud side for my taste - lots of diff sounds. But overall I like it!

A certified staple of 90s britpop for sure. While I find this sound can get a bit repetitive for over 50 minutes, it's still a sound I enjoy. Favorites: Live Forever, Bring It On Down, Slide Away

1994 - Alt Rock / Brit rock

Giving Oasis the edge here in the Brit pop battle because Rock and Roll Star will always make me think of You All Everybody

These boys are more than just Wonderwall. Not much, but they are.

Pretty good. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

One of those bands that I dislike but will always scream along to. I find their singles better than the album cuts - possibly nostalgia coming into play. This album isn’t as stacked as Morning Glory but it’s hard to deny Live Forever which is such a positive song. Fave tracks: “Live Forever” “Cigarettes & Alcohol” “Rock & Roll Star”

I enjoyed it

A very good album, this is maybe the third time I've listened to it and it was the most impressive. I always was of the opinion that Blur was the superior band but this album now makes it a closer race. The album rocks and has great songs. A fine album 4 atars

Classic 90s pub Rock, from my youth

Clearly a very influential album, some classic tracks, but it's a bit too samey for me to enjoy the full run length.

Definitely definitely.....one or 2 not do good...but supersonic live forever slideaway etc

Classic album of the Britpop era. Vacillating on how many stars to give it. Although iconic, there were better bands and albums of that era imo. Saw them at Knebworth 1996, although The Prodigy blew them off the stage.

Definitely maybe a 4

A very fine debut album. Songs are good, though not quite of the caliber of morning glory. I am annoyed of their "influences" coming dangerously close to blatant rip off. Keeps it from a full blown 4 so I'm giving 3.75 🌟

Good listen. Favorite tracks are Bring it on Down and Columbia.

I could be without the first record, the two other was good.

I mean... it's good. I like better What's the story... There's a lot of similar things. I think that emotions linked to music have a lot to do with the age when we listen to it for the first time. I was a fan when I was 11 and I listened to Wonderwall for the first time. It still affects me, that song made me create a world in my head... Life is not a song, kid... Well, maybe...

Friday 17th September Listened in the car on the way to Anna Smith's wedding in Norfolk. The drawl, the bombast, it's pure rock and roll.

7/10, might bump up to an 8 on a relisten because I didn't focus during a lot of the middle section.

Like it or not I know all these songs very well. Has a good stomp Can't deny that it's a great record They do what they do very well Unashamedly what it is Simple Not a bad song on here

I enjoyed listening to this record. It was cool to see where they started and the subtle sound differences between this and their following record.

Pure loud 90s rock, so good

Oasis is  heavy enough but not too heavy. Goldilocks R&R if you will. They are sufficiently well known  that most everyone will know their popular songs.  I like these guys but never sat and listened through this album before.  The band is tight and the guitars kick. Side 3 is my favourite starting off with the hit and then followed by Bring it on Down and Ciggs & Alch which  are two really good ass kicking rock and roll songs.

Tapa llena de detalles. Album hermoso

Tering goed album, heerlijke hits als live forever en bring it on down

Missed the boat when these guys were at their peak as I was much more interested in the big beat electronic stuff coming out of Britain. Also Wonderwall never really did it for me so I never ever really gave them a shot. Listening now I can understand the hype and had I been 10 years older I would've been an Oasis tragic I've got no doubt. Great album. Give it a few more years and listens and I have no doubts it'll be 5 stars by then.

Nice easy listening. Wonderwall gives you a bad idea of what this band can do.

Good 90's rock. Wonderwall? Never head of 'em.

I enjoyed it

Pretty good album. I enjoyed most of the tracks though none of them really stood out to me. If someone were to play this at a party or something like that I wouldn’t mind.

yes the gallagher brother share one brain cell & yes i am a fan of what that brain cell produces. sue me! rock 'n' roll star, live forever, columbia, bring it on down

Does liking Oasis make me basic? Probably. There are too many bangers to ignore on this though

Enthused about this in 1994 and still enjoy the songs today. Energy, humour, melodies and hooks. good songwriting.

Enjoy the classic/soft rock kinda vibes. Will definitely listen to this again.

Slide away rock n roll star cigarettes and alcohol

Very good memories.

Good album with some classics and some poor tracks that just plod along. Enjoyed listening

A brilliant debut - not quite the full five for me

Not a massive Oasis fan but this is a good album and easy listening

One of the better 4. I am excited for their next albums, because this has some potential. So far I prefer Oasis over Blur.

Good album. I think this band might become big one day.

Rocks pretty hard. Love the guitar.

I still really like it, got a good swagger about it and definitely their best album. B sides good too. Marked it down for the terrible lyrics in places and the numerous rip offs

Very ‘90s and not necessarily in a bad way

I like this album

Rock and Roll Star still slaps.

This is, oddly, the album I most enjoyed so far.

1994, britpop, rock, übel starkes album, paar harte banger dabei, oasis vielleicht die beste band alter, starke 4

Great album. I love the flow from beginning to end, a well done group of songs in tribute to the golden 60s British bands and their sound. I enjoyed it and expect myself to further explore Oasis.

So there’s significantly more to Oasis than “Wonderwall”.... very cool Favorite Tracks: “Supersonic” and “Married With Children”

I’ve never given Oasis a fair chance due to the major meme that is Wonderwall. However, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the delightful Britpop on this album.

I never gave Oasis a chance in the 90s. This was better than I was expecting. Solid 4.

Great album, quintessential to that post grunge, mid-nineties alternative rock. Standout tracks are Live Forever, Supersonic, Bring It On Down, and Rock ‘n’ Roll Star

Klassisk britpop. Många bangers. Supersonic bl.a.

Man, this is a good album. Oasis are like the best example of 90s/00s Brit-Alt.

Wonderwall

V enjoyable throwback listen

Great album overall, there weren't any songs standing out particularly but it is a well put together album that, as their debut album, laid the foundations for a great career

3.5 hours! Enjoyed the main tracks, will listen to the live versions etc. another time

Yep, that's Oasis. Always manages to reflect their obvious Beatles influence with a way more sardonic twist. Never actually listened to this (Just (WTS)MG), but it's probably just as good as that record. Favorite tracks: "Live Forever", "Supersonic", "Married With Children"

Honestly liked this more than I thought I would! Nice to recognize a few songs as well.

définitivement un peut-être

Back in the 90s I was on a junior programmer on a work road trip with my boss at the time - a lovely posh, tweedy lady of a certain age - when Cigarettes & Alcohol came on the radio. “Oooh - I like this one, reminds of the music I used to listen to when I was your age”. I’m not saying this is a bad album, but I have a slight contrarian tendency to avoid things that are popular without any particular reason. This definitely caught the public imagination during the height of Britpop, along with the media hyped rivalry between Blur and Oasis - for the record, I was a Pulp fan mainly because they counted as a local Sheffield band for me. Listening back to this now I enjoyed bits of it more than I thought I might. However, as the saying goes, this album is both good and original. Unfortunately the parts that are good aren’t original and vice versa. It definitely captures the feeling of a live performance but apparently the recording process was anything but spontaneous. I also can’t quite get past the faux laddishness and Liam’s nasal Manc drawl that turns the word sunshine into “sun-sheeee-ine” Oh well, after all it’s just rock ’n’ roll.

There’s some great songs, but a lot of it sounds so similar you can’t tell them apart

The songs were good but they straight burnt my ears off of my head with the guitar tones

Eh. It's fine. Decent 90s Brit-pop, but lacking the catchiness of What's the Story Morning Glory?

stock standard 90’s alternative rock. a good introduction to the band and their sound.

Great rock n roll

ummm obviously there's a few good songs but i think this album is a random noise, not even a random sound. it's bad.

The title of this album perfectly encapsulates my relationship with this band. I am caught between lauding them and dismissing them. It's not a question of talent, which is clearly there; it's more a question of whether that talent is used to take me anywhere I care to go. I enjoy a good rock'n'roll record, so I find myself enjoying this enough. But after multiple listens I find I can only give them a strong 3/5, a strong "definitely maybe."

When Oasis hit the scene, there were lots of Beatles comparisons. This seemed odd to me because the comparisons had mostly to do with popularity over music. While there are chord progressions and arrangements that may be Beatlesque, I find this whole thing odd. The Beatles were always known for their incredible harmonies (especially considering the different vocal sounds of Paul and John). Oasis sounds nasally and winey. Don't get me wrong, there are some catchy tunes, talent, presence, and impact here that are good. But it really does come off as a definite maybe.

Hmm chill and american sounding!

Made me feel like an angsty 90s teen. Didn’t love it but didn’t hate it. Anyway… here’s Wonderwall 3/5 ⭐️

Cheeky little classic this one

anyway here's...wait...no wonderwall on this???? oh no Actually, I find the lead singer's voice super annoying and I hate the way he sounds. If I could separate the voice from the songs, I think they're be great but good lord it's really irritating to me, like he's so whiny sounding. Maybe it's because he's british???? maybe that's the real reason the band broke up tbh i wouldn't rule it out

I smile, yes!!!

I don't know any of their music other than wonderwall. it was fine.

In the spite of as much Britpop as there can be contained in this assortment of albums, I would say that this one could best exemplify this era in music. While lacking the hits that their follow-up had, it does however provide a more authentic sound that I believe makes the album more important in the history of music. 8/10 [KEEP]

A lot of song elements remind me of the Beatles, actually. You'd never guess that if Wonderwall was the extent of it.

Another album deserving of a 3.5, solid listen

Good album, just not the biggest Oasis fan.

did they cook? i cant understand them

Definitely a very listenable album. But everything managed to sound like a variation on Wonderwall: one of the most overrated songs ever released. I don't get the hype on these guys, but the album didn't suck.

Solid British rock. I actually really like oasis of that group of British annoying boy bands. This is kinda annoying actually I liked their other album better. Good music. Classic. Enjoyable. Easy listening. Good debut. Prolly not what I needa listen to now but it's chill. Favourite: Shakemaker Least favourite: Cigarettes & Alcohol

I do like 90's music and I feel like a really cool kid listening to it, but I can't say I find this a masterpiece. I like Oasis and I really like this nasal voice of the vocalist. The lyrics in this doesn't make any sense, but the guitar and the beat is so good. I enjoyed listening to this while playing Stardew Valley as well. Not their best, but enjoyable. I really like 'Up in the Sky'.

Listened

I have never been a real fan of Britpop, and this falls into the same category for me. I like the first song, then I drift into "what have you done for me lately?" land. Flashes of excellence competing with the mundane.

Blah blah blah Oasis blah blah

Bland and largely derivative. While it's occasionally fun in the same dumb way hair metal is, its hard to take it all that seriously.

Not my cup of tea, but ok.

liked this more than i thought i would. solid album

Felt like nothing special. not crazy abt the lyrics, not crazy abt the sound. my favorite is probably slide away or live forever from the album. mediocre to me overall.

Britpop unfortunately extremely catchy.

Did not listen

Signature rock and vocals.

DAY 1. 3.5 had heard some of the songs on this album a few years ago. I already loved supersonic and live forever. i should give it a few more listens but on the first time listening, i liked "married with children". overall a good listen. still prefer blur tho :)))

prefiro blur 😋

Expected more from this. Was a good album, and a hell of a debut, but nowhere near as good as What's the story. Lots more filler on this to be honest.

An Indie band from the UK in the 1990s - what could possibly go wrong? I was expecting complete crap and got something that was pleasant and charming, easy on the ears. How refreshing.

Meh, it was ok I guess.

Ok, I can kinda see why people like Oasis

Less punk …trail of dead. Who knew?? I’m coming around to oasis after years of avoiding. Marking 3 for now to temper my expectations on the rest of the journey.

'Definitely Maybe' is more of maybe for me. Oasis fills me with nostalgia and a longing for gritty, emo bad boy brothers...but this album doesn't feel as fresh, in your face, and as canonical as (What's The Story) Morning Glory?.

Okay…a little bland. Shakermaker and Live Forever are bangers though.

It’s not horrible. Not something I’d play a lot of.

It’s ok. Last song is the best.

Seemed average

cok da wooooowluk parça bulamadım ikinci albumum cok karsılastırma yapamıcam

its all abt dat lasaaaaaaaaaaaaagnaaaa baby

Wasn’t too bad bit too loud and obnoxious for my liking
