Keine Band schafft den Übergang von "beste Musik ever" zu "nervigste Musik ever" so schnell
2000s soft rock. No real chart toppers in this album but I really like mood of the whole album.
Ok ce n’est pas celui où il y a tous les tubes. OK il y a quelques moments plus faibles (“Shakermaker”...) mais combien de fois l’ai-je écouté, cet album? Et y a-t-il un moment où je n’aurai pas envie de reprendre les paroles en hurlant sur “Rock’n roll Star”... Ces petits crâneurs ont déboulé en se croyant les rois du monde et sur le coup ils avaient un peu raison. C’est vite parti en flamme, mais pour un premier album, c’est quand même très classe.

Never been an Oasis fan, but this was definitely maybe better than I expected.

Imagine if Oasis was your favourite band. It's fine at what it is going for and Live Forever is a good song but it's not much of anything.
Okay, I didn't expect to see them again. The first track is over compressed, just loud for no reason and that trend continues. Lacking dynamic range. The last track is the exception, it sounds good but the song sucks. They didn't like the recording the first try and didn't like it the second time but just worked with it. They should have just kept re recording it. This sounds like a tin garbage can. The song compositions manage to carry the album, but the production is trash.
This album is a bitter sweet.
I Definitely Maybe think this album is better than I last remembered. The back half is significantly better than the first half once you get to Supersonic.
The second Oasis album on this list and it's just as boring as the first one. It's just one bland song after another and they all sound the same.

Here's the thing, I quite like Oasis. I have a copy of (What's The Story) Morning Glory and spent a lot of time listening to it. I moved to Manchester in April 1996 and it was the soundtrack of that first summer, Euro 96, Hacienda (which was in it's final stages) etc ... Christ, I sound like Ron Manager ... "jumpers for goalposts, experience replica shirts, isn't it, mmmm?" Anyway, this is a good album, but not as good as the follow up. I'm going with 4 stars!
A lot more enjoyable than What's the Story. Just fun, digestible britpop. They're still kind of annoying, though.
There's nice high distortion rock in here with satisfying layering. Unfortunately, there's also this guy wailing over all of it. I really wish he would be quiet.

i’ve trying to write something about the album that defined my music taste all morning. find out about oasis accidentally in high school and immediately bought green parka. aside from the singles, my favorite is slide away.
Just a solid all around album. Final track is the perfect outro.
It was alright
Like very few groups, Oasis seemed to emerge fully formed with this debut album, and only got better on the efforts that followed! It now seems sort of inevitable that something this good could only exist for a very limited time.
Oasis has two good songs, neither are on this album.
Pretty good. I didn't realize that Morning Glory wasn't their first album. This is not as good as that, but you can see where those highs came from.
Honestly pretty boring. I think this one might get a 2, because it just does absolutely nothing for me. It fades squarely into the background. Not even squarely, because at least squares have edges.

Admittedly I’ve never been a massive oasis fan, their big songs were fun in nightclub cheese-rooms when I was in uni, but they were never something I’d seek to listen to in my free time. Listening to this in full I’ve gained a new appreciation for the bands songwriting, but the sound still doesn’t do it for me unfortunately. Live Forever, Up In The Sky were the stand out tracks for me, Cigarettes & Alcohol was probably the most grating track to me. 2/5

I've not heard much Oasis (wrong place wrong time) and never would have hunted this up to listen to it. But (to my sincere surprise) it's perfectly good. I'm glad I heard it before I died. Best song: Supersonic.

A bunch of great songs on here, my favorite Oasis album. Live Forever is my favorite Oasis song and other songs like Cigarettes & Alcohol and Roll n Roll Star are really enjoyable as well. It does suffer from the things all Oasis albums suffer from though. The songs are too long winded and noodly at points, the mixing is incredibly loud and there's way too much going on soundwise. The streaming version of this album also seems to have long silent breaks between every song that ruin the flow. A bunch of bangers still.
So pure and innocent in a way most music really wasn't at the time. A little rough and tumble. But that only adds to it.

Day 26: Definitely Maybe - Oasis. Oasis album 1/2. Oasis may be the most recognizable Britpop band of all time. This album is a fairly pleasant and energetic album. While I do prefer (What's the Story?) Morning Glory, this album is still a nice listen. This is a great album, in my opinion. The Gallagher brothers don't necessarily have a reputation of being peaceful with each other. I am quite glad that they have made music together at all. I'm aware about an upcoming Oasis reunion tour. I find the lyrics of several of the songs on this album to be quite silly. This is unrelated, but I used to like imagining a random modern-day pop song sampling the song "Bang a Gong (Get It On)" by T. Rex, and screaming "Oh, my god! They sampled Bang a Gong (Get It On)" at the radio if it were to play. When Cigarettes & Alcohol began playing, I thought to myself: "Oh, shit! A popular song that samples "Bang a Gong (Get It On)" actually exists!". Anyway, thank you for reading my empty review. Personal Enjoyment: 4/5. How Much It Belongs Here: 4/5.
I like this album more than What’s the Story but its still has not aged well for me.
Really good album. I had not dug deep into Oasis beyond the singles despite the peak of their popularity being during my teens, but worth getting into.

So easy to write this off, but it's class, so much better than "What's The Story," because it has an element of doubt in tracks such as "Cigarettes and Alcohol" and the one about lasagne; a wobbly lack of confidence that proved to be completely unfounded but nonetheless gives the album a more human quality that's missing in Oasis' swaggering and thunderous later work. I also love the way that it's just the teeniest bit shoegazery.
Heard it before. First two Oasis albums are really solid. But I think I like Morning Glory more than Definitely Maybe. Still, some great songs on this one and a nice time. 4/5
As a kid I was totally fine with plain white bread but that was primarily due to the fact that I hadn’t explored other breads, more interesting bread. Bread with grains and texture to it, more flavour. Now, I’ll eat plain white bread if that’s all ya got to offer but I’m not necessarily stoked about it. It’s fine. 3 stars

Not a huge fan of this. Could never really put my finger on it but I didn’t love oasis when younger and still don’t. Not much else from me on it.
Oasis may be a meme, but they can really rock. Supersonic and a few other songs are just flirting with that same early-90s space rock revival sound that the Verve were perfecting on A Storm In Heaven and A Northern Soul. Oasis just didn't lean into the distortion as much as other bands during this time which is probably why they came out of the decade as the most popular. 4/5
This was real fun. Pretty straightforward (to my modern ears; I guess they were revolutionary in their time probably) indie rock. Almost a power pop sound.
I had not understood the hype for Oasis before this (after all, Wonderwall is an overplayed meh of a song). But now I think I get it.
Anyway, where’s “Wonderwall”?? Liam Gallagher always sounds like he’s whining. This album is fine, but I can’t unhear that.
i apologize to everyone for my tardiness. mice had nibbled on my headphones and i had a small meltdown until my therapist reminded me that mice entering my home during an extremely cold winter was not a moral failure on my part and i should stop freaking out anyway i loved this album because it soothed the angsty british teen boy within me. i do feel "how does it feel/when you're inside me" was a strange lyrical choice, perhaps because none of the members of oasis were women
I don't like Liam's voice or singing style. Never lived up to the hype for me.
Definitely (not maybe) the best Oasis album. However, I don't think it quite hits 5 status for me. I enjoy the album, but nearly every song (outside of Live Forever, which is god tier) is just on the "Much Better Than Average" tier, which I am not sure makes this elite. 4.5/5

I listened to this one more than any other album in recent memory. I couldn’t stop coming back to it. The sound is piercing and raw without sounding cheap, the vocals are the perfect mix of clarity and emotion, and the lyrics are gorgeous.

I've never listened to Oasis and completely wrote them off from hearing Wonderwall about 650 times each year. I was wrong, at least on this album. It's a great one. Oasis definitely deserve their love.
It was hard to describe this album. Oasis was one of those bands that rose through the ranks to become one of the best bands in the world, then discovered it was only in the Gallagher brothers’ heads. This album is good but, maybe reflectively, sounds like so much other stuff. They’re kind of the Nickelback of Britpop: likable, familiar; formulaic. Up the Sky was an ear grabbing track, and Cigaette’s and Alcohol had an almost G. Thoroughgood vibe to it. They’re kind entire album felt like it should have been in either a Mike Myers or pre-Joker Heath Ledger movie.
This isn’t the first time I’ve listened to this one. I tried to “get into” Oasis a few years back. I listened to most of their catalog. I just didn’t catch the bug. I like the 3 big hits from What’s the Story but everything else fell flat for me. I guess this just isn’t my cup of tea. Anyway, Cigarettes and Alcohol kinda jumped out at me on this listen but this is a definitely no for me.

I love when a band sounds this confident and fully-formed on a debut album. While it’s not my favorite Oasis record, it’s easy to see why it became such a bit hit and quickly rocketed them to the towering heights they reached.

Not bad, but most of the songs sound exactly the same. After a while, it sounds like a wall of sound. The last song is actually my favorite — it almost redeemed the rating to a 4, but the album as a whole is just a 3 for me.

ok this is probably just the nostalgia factor but these guys really made my childhood and i just fucking love them for it. i’ve got plenty of memories that are associated with their songs especially live forever and such, you know from listening to them while out having fun with friends and all so this album just means a lot to me, so to whoever doesn’t get it that’s your loss mate i’m actually sorry xx
Better than I expected
Oasis is one of my favorite bands and this album helped shape my adulthood
this album was fine. it’s not really bad by any means. i was pleasantly surprised with how much i like certain songs, particularly bring it on down and supersonic. but, there’s simply just so many albums i would choose to listen to over this one any day. a few points are also deducted for the vocals; it’s not my style at all and takes away from my listening experience.
Not sure why this album doesn’t do more for me. It is widely acclaimed. The band has another album I rather enjoyed. The genre(s) and musical influences check a lot of boxes for me. But, I just can’t make myself love it. This maybe it’s because there is a sameness to the songs. Or, because Liam Gallagher’s exaggerated vocals sound too much like a misplaced John Lydon? Anyway, enjoy the album (like the rest of the world) and I’ll be over here if you need me….
Oasis may not have reinvented the circle, but they made the circle sound pretty good. Although Liam is some arsehole, and I can't really like them that much... the music shines through. I can see how it appeals to the audience it appeals to. Everyone needs art they can relate to. Columbia as my favourite of the album. Solid stuff.

Wait, is Oasis actually good? This was a nice excuse to finally dig into them a bit, as the schtick of them being Beatles derivatives is something that should make them up my alley. Originally was annoyed with the drawling whiny singing but the music is honestly good. I better not just rate all these albums 4 stars.

Would probably have given this a strong 4, but I didn’t get a chance to listen to it on the day. Next album in my list was The Holy Bible, my favourite album ever, and released on the same day as this in 1994. So, by (a possibly unfair) comparison, it gets a 3.
There are some great songs on this album (Live Forever, Slide Away, Supersonic, Whatever, Married With Children, some others), but there are also a few songs that aren't nearly as good. If you don't mind Liam's voice, then there's a lot to love about this band
This is totally just a me thing, but this is the best britpop album that I've heard, if you want to even call it britpop, because it honestly is just some killer-ass rock songs. 10/10

Overrated, overblown, ego filled shite. It was football terrace chant shite when it came out, it remains shite now. In fact, I’d say it’s now like dogshit that’s been out in the sun for too long and has gone furry - it’s mouldy, pointless Dadrock for idiots who barely scrape two syllable words together. Needs to be consigned to the trash heap along with the idiotic brothers Gallagher.

I listened at work and maybe that was my first mistake because it kinda became background noise pretty quickly. I mostly listen to rock and rock-adjacent music so it didn’t particularly stand out either way. Not unwilling to give it another try or another album though.

I really enjoyed this album, there were a couple songs that were just "eh" to me, but the ones I liked, I liked a lot. Oasis definitely has their sound figured out, but this album hardly feels repetitive. It did make me interested to listen to more Oasis to see what their range would be. I'd give this a 4.7/5, I thought I knew what I was getting into coming in, and I was right, but I wasn't disappointed.
A classic album that oozes 90’s vibes. Not a bad song on it. Live Forever is just a fantastic track.
Never dug much into Oasis, outside of the radio songs and the song from the Snatch Soundtrack, but I really liked this one. "Live Forever" still slaps. Other favorites: "Slide Away", "Supersonic", "Cigarettes & Alcohol" I don't know if it's because it's more electric, more melodic, or just more consistent, but I prefer this to Parklife. These reviews should probably be in a vacuum, but since the 1,001 albums gods decided to bless up with both 1994 Britpop classics this week, I feel the need to draw the comparison. This album makes me want to dig into more Oasis....and watch Snatch again.

Good, but great? I’ll have to listen to it when it’s not on my phone’s speaker while I’m cooking. I can see how this might be formative to someone in college in the mid-90s. But some of the songs ran together for me, and the sound mixing was spotty—at times too much guitar and not enough vocals.
Some really good ideas here - Live Forever is a standout. This cannot beat the fact that I hate rock men's voices.

Gonna try dynamic reviewing. If the majority consider it a five star classic, inspiring an overlooked generation failed by 15 years of Tory policies, I'll give it three stars for balance and wang on about how Pulp are far superior. If the majority consider it an uncreative rock plodder for basic lads, I'll give it five stars and hail the charisma of the Gallaghers and their ability to connect with so many people in a meaningful way.
Always avoided this band. But this album actually ain’t bad.
There is no disputing the enormous global success Oasis have and will continue to have. But, in my opinion there were better bands around doing “Britpop” in the 90’s - Blur, Supergrass and The Verve as examples. Some real anthems on this album and no doubt will get further historic success in 2025 for obvious reasons. However I cannot get excited listening to this album.

I enjoyed Live Forever, and Supersonic but in general I feel like Oasis is incredibly repetitive. I feel like all songs could be cut in half. I do appreciate their musicality in general. It also seems very much a product of its time. In general I like the starts of all the songs on this album, up until the singer starts.

At first, I thought "Not so bad; not was I was anticipating"! The songs seemed interesting and I was willing to give it an honest go. By the 6th song, I heard myself ask "How long is this going to go on?". My friends and I used to make fun of party DJs whose sets droned on calling them DJ "I-Only-Have-This-One-Record". Similar story here. What was interesting at first turned stale quickly. Maybe it's time for the "We-Only-Have-This-One-Sound" Band

No doubt this has some fun moments, but it's still pretty rough. I think a solid producer could have bumped this material up a notch, as there are some great moments dulled by some poor production choices. For instance, there is no song here that should have been over 4 min. Some good foreshadowing of what was to come for this band though.

Oasis were a constant soundtrack to my teenage years. Not by choice, they were everywhere. My best mates adored them. Still do. That gives them a certain affection for me. A reminder of my youth. I know it all without trying. Do I actually like the music? No, I don't think I do ... but it's kind of undeniable in it's existence.
Very guitar forward mixing— vocals and drums seem lost behind a wall of guitar sound. When vocals do manage to punch through, they sound whiny and nasally. I remember not caring for this album when it came out for some of the same reasons, and my feelings apparently haven’t changed in the past 30 years since its release.
I've never been the biggest Oasis fan, but there were more good tracks on here than I'd remembered.

ITS SUCH A BIBLICAL MOMENT WHEN I RATED MY PREVIOUS ALBUM AND SAW "DEFINITELY MAYBE" APPEAR ON THE TOP OF THE PAGE. cause i am a simple-minded 10th grader aka oasis stan. anyway, oasis is a great band. and i'm going to write my review in an extremely chaotic way similar to me writing essays in school. and as we all know, the band's soul is the Gallagher brothers, with elder brother Noel playing guitar and younger brother Liam singing. The guy lying on the ground in the album cover is Liam himself, the self-claimed "RNR STAR GODLIKE RASTA ICON LEGEND BIBLICAL OMNIPRESENT PROPHET SPIRITUAL MAJESTICAL CELESTIAL OPTIMYSTIC BUDDHIST JEDI APPROACHABLE ZEN LOVER HUMBLE 🐝" as written in his twitter bio. his twitter updates once a day, with him saying hello to fans, and then reacting to fan's comments and talking about football, like, after manchester city's loss to liverpool in the premier league last month, he said, in a love me, love my dog way, "we piss all over the beatles". and even before he penned the bio, he was everything mentioned in it. surely, a true rock star knows how to stir up controversies: he argued with Noel nearly every day after oasis broke up and before they reformed months ago, he was involved in many fights, took drugs, and did a lot of rock'n'roll-styled things. but the thing that stands out the most, along with his attitude, is his voice. that fucking sarcasm. that fucking emotion. that fucking "shiiiiiine" which was dragged along the music and became a meme. and it goes so well with the lyrics noel wrote, probably while he was getting high, like the pure nonsense in "Supersonic" and "Shakermaker". And apart from the nonsense, there's some pretty philosophical things in the album, such as the lyrics to "Live Forever". "Columbia" on the knebworth live album is messy and chaotic, while the studio version is bit lame with distortion incomparable to the live. "Bring It On Down" is a hidden gem. "Digsy's Dinner" makes me want to eat lasagne, while "rock'n'roll star" is a solid hit while also functioning as the opening song. it all proves that Noel is half a genius at music, although not as good as Dylan or Lennon. But he can only enter his complete form with Liam at his side, singing the songs he wrote. "Definitely Maybe" is definitely maybe one of the best debut albums of all time. also, i'm going to manchester this winter and buy the man city & noel collab kit and maybe get tickets of them versus chelsea (at home). perhaps the next album i'll rate is "parklife" cuz damon is chelsea fan. congrats me =) 5/5
solid album
I’m not sure if this is a huge coincidence, or if the creator of the album generator did this on purpose, but Definitely Maybe following T. Rex yesterday is hilarious. I even commented in yesterday’s review that Cigarettes & Alcohol is very similar to Get It On! That aside, I’ve always loved this album. As a dorky little child, my two favourite bands were Oasis and 5ive (it’s a stretch to call 5ive a band, I know). Oasis’ sound is just so unique to them, and were such a defining moment in the UK music scene. It shows just how big Oasis were in their prime in how fast the reunion tickets have been selling. This is just an absolute banger of an album.

Straight forward Rock N Roll. I like the hits and a few other tracks, but there’s a few skips for me.
I thought it was fine but largely unmemorable, which unfortunately is a crime. Favorite track: "Live Forever," maybe, I think. I don't know, I'm probably not listening again to make sure.

Debut album at its best, such raw when if first came out and I was only 12. Just got the 30th Anniversary edition on vinyl and I really enjoyed the original recordings (Monnow Valley): No stand out tracks the whole album is a banger!!

relatively laid back and enjoyable album that succinctly presents the Oasis britpop sound mixed with watered down grunge elements and indie folk that create for an easy listen.
I have never been a fan of Oasis so haven't listened to them before but I can see why people like them. Sounds a bit dated, very much a 90s sound Supersonic is a pretty good song tho Dig the guitar in Bring it on Down

Having already listened to What’s The Story Morning Glory, this feels a bit heavier, a bit of a different feel from the more lush feeling of that album. Still enjoyed it.
You think that everything you've done's fantastic Your music's shite it puts me to sleep There. Fixed it. Kind of boring. The most interesting part is a T-Rex riff. Lyrically dull and essentially just nursery rhymes over a pub band who liked The Beatles a bit too much. I don't understand how this was considered exciting or new but Oasis have always been their own biggest fans so hype and tabloid headlines help with the promo. The mix is also pretty bad: muddy and no space. I'm sure Oasis will crop up again and I expect that later albums are better than this. At least I hope so.
Not their best. Not shite. Somewhere in the middle is where this one rests. Not one bad track, but none very few stand out and none of them are really bangers. Inoffensive, but blends in too well. Their next outing would do better. 3/5

Few good songs, kind of mellowed out towards the end. I've always said this was a good record, but I can't help but feel that it's a bit repetitive and isn't far off the mark from butt rock in some ways.

by all accounts the oasis brothers seem to be nasty little fuckers, but yeah, this was a good album. not great, and not groundbreaking, and actually, i can't really put my finger on why i liked it so much when i really think about it. but a 4 star album nonetheless!
oh look, it's the oasis album that has the mid-tier singles. oasis is pretty much the brand name version of 90s britpop to me, but boy do they sure do have a lot of filler songs, both on this album and in general. there's not much on here to write home about but it's still the quintessential britpop sound i guess. i'd give this 3.5 stars but eh. also those gallagher bros are something else. favorites: rock 'n' roll star, live forever, supersonic

Definitely maybe never listening to this again.
In the mid-90s, Oasis was introduced by the British media as nothing less than the second coming of The Beatles. It was this lofty claim that made it almost impossible for their debut LP to live up to the hype. Definitely Maybe doesn’t break any new ground, though does a good job combining the history of Brit-rock (from the poppier end of The Beatles to the rockier end of The Rolling Stones), occasionally mixing in the wall-of-sound psychedelia of shoegaze and late-80’s jangle rock, a testament to Noel Gallagher’s ability to write the heck out of a song. Though it is this confluence of influences that make this album sort of boring. There’s not much in the way of innovation and it all feels like a patische of 90s British rock. In fact, it feels very much like the bridge between Radiohead’s Pablo Honey and The Bends. While it inches towards genius it never quite gets there since it’s bogged down by the band’s influences. 3.7 out of 5
I don't think I'd ever heard any of the songs on this album, but I know their second album, What's the Story, pretty well. I liked this album a lot and listened to it twice. Four stars.

A nice first album (to my knowledge) for an iconic rock band. All the pieces are here for what they eventually go on to do. Pop Brit Rock music, with great hooks, vocals, guitars. I don’t know if there’s a standout track here per say, but it all works as an excellent debut album.
Oasis is in my opinion very overrated, while they do have a pretty alright dicography i would choose bands like Pulp and Blur over Oasis any day. I just don't get the hype around them and they're comeback. Still though this is probably one of the best Britpop albums ever made but after this one it all went downhill.
Probably still my favourite album. I have this and Morning Glory I got on vinyl last year. Both ones have the bonus track placed bizarrely at the end of the second record. I know a lot of people love it, but Sad Song is one of the worst early era tunes they did. Putting it at the middle of this album kills the flow so hard. Also I was able to secure 1 ticket to their reunion show in Toronto in 2025

I’m not sure when I last listened all the way through this one (if ever). I usually stick to a handful of songs I know and love. And after listening, I know why I stick with those. The gap between the four songs I love (rock and roll star, live forever, supersonic, and slide away) and the rest is large.
I totally didn't realise how every song could be shortened by about 2 minutes with the drawn out ends.

Again do we need more than one Oasis album? what's he difference between this and WTSMG. Same whiney vocals etc. and the songs aren't as good either.
Another band that I just don't get. Live Forever is palatable, but the remaining songs are a sludge of washed out instrumentals and horrible vocals.
I happy to admit that this process has shown me that there are some albums that im not objective about. They are too interwoven into my own personal musical journey and as such my opinion is invalid and thats ok. I sang every word of this from start to finish.
This is a pretty average album, not bad but nothing outstanding either and it's because it has nothing extraordinary, or new. It's a mix of Beatlesque and Stones-like songs. I can see why it got so famous in 1994 in the UK, though. Still, Morning Glory is the better album and the rest of their catalogue is just forgettable.
I get what people like about Oasis, I just find it annoying. Musically, they're a decent evolution of the Stone Roses/Charlatans sound. Noel's guitar playing is derivative but engaging. What makes Oasis' sound unique is Liam's vocal styling. But that's a product of that particular combination of conceit and idiocy that I find most loathsome in human beings. The one thing that's unique and interesting about this band curls my upper lip. So I get it, but it irritates me.

Ugh. I really don't care for Oasis. They just run me the wrong way. Liked this one even less than their second album which I've already listened to on this list. Just not that interesting and boring. This broke my incredible streak of 5 star albums. Hope to get back on that track.
I was the biggest Oasis hater until one day it all just culminated and clicked. These guys aren't just the Wonderwall guys, they're the true definition of bejeweled and chaotic rockstars just absolutely kicking ass and taking names. I love Oasis now and am eager to catch them live when they come to America. Now speaking musically, its highly energetic, lush, a bit nostalgia, as if a wall of sound is crashing over you. The drums could use a tinge more, and maybe bass tuned up a bit but it was the 90's. Even Oasis a British band was affected by the loundess and compression woes. Liam Gallagher raspy yet melodic voice match with Noel's pretty dynamic instrument stylings pay homage to the old masters of the craft and bring back no bollocks rock and roll to our ears in the 1990's.
I’ve had to endure 25+ years of insufferable Gallagher ego and self-importance to buy into the general what would otherwise feel like an earnest but fairly one note album. Other than Live Forever, the album blended into a forgettable blur of mid-tempo drumming and left me reaching for more memorable Brit-rock albums from Blur and Radiohead.

Another incredible debut, and arguably their best album. I might prefer Damon Albarn to the loutish pricks that are the Gallaghers, but the enjoyment and influence of this work can't be argued. The first two tracks are probably my least favourite but after Live Forever, it gets going and doesn't stop. The Beatles influences are nice to hear and the licks and hooks are catchy to Hell and back. The vocals aren't amazing but they are full of character which might even be better. For me, it's an album for getting ready for a night out, showering, pre drinks, and the walk into the first pub. Love it. 24/10/24

Married with Children and Live Forever were my favorites. We’ve been on an Oaisis kick lately, so it was nice to listen to some of their music that I didn’t know before.
Felt very British youth, like the Arctic Monkeys album but for a different generation. Some of the vocals reminded me of Smashing Pumpkins. Glad I listened to this since they recently announced the reunion tour. High 4.

What can you say? Some of the theft is painful. But elsewhere the shine is truly through. Not sure it’s consistent though, but damn deserves 4 for the songs I’ll sing my children.
I don't often get through an album without many thoughts, but this album is one of those rare exceptions. There is nothing particularly of note or interest to me with this album. It is simply a fine pop album. But this isn't supposed to be a list of fine albums; it's supposed to be a list of the greatest albums of all time. And it just doesn't do anything noteworthy for me. Rian Johnson's Columbo homage Poker Face has a murder happen to an ambitious, rowdy drummer in what Rian Johnson thinks is a glam metal band, killed over a single that would rocket him to stardom and not the rest of the band. while hanging with the murder victim, Charlie Cale (played by Natasha Lyonne in all the scrappy charm she can muster) notices that he basically writes his songs by stitching together whatever he sees, leading to a hilarious scene where she picks through his trash and finds out the lyrics to his song are lifted wholesale from whatever bullshit he had crumpled in his pocket. it's not a bad song, he just wrote it by stealing bits and pieces of whatever he sees. he's a magpie. i would say Oasis function as a group of Magpies. they take a little bit of Ride, a few bits and baubles from the Beatles, an intro from "Bang a Gong (Get It On), and an entire verse from a Coke commercial to make their nest, and it's a perfectly fine nest. maybe a few of the bits woven into it prick you when you sit down, but it's quite roomy and thick and there's plenty of room for you to lean back and watch Liam and Noel peck each other's eyes out. overall, i am entertained. this is probably a masterpiece if you're a little wasted and know the words. however, there's something real hard to stomach about Definitely Maybe it is something i like to call "oops, it's shoegaze", and i don't really mean this as a compliment. aside from the subtle Ride influence, any DNA this shares with the aforementioned genre appears to be completely accidental. the guitar seems to be that loud because the band thought it was a good volume to put it at, and i respect their decision, but it does make sitting through this record a bit of an endurance test. these are probably pretty good songs they duct taped together, but the sheer sound of them makes me want to drop a few so my ears aren't being burnt alive for as long. spoiler for the Poker Face episode btw: the band gets busted not because they murdered their magpie, but because his hit had its melody wholly lifted from the theme to Benson, thus scoring them a class-action lawsuit instead of a record deal. unfortunately, they lack the half a million Oasis paid Coca-Cola with over "Shakermaker". whoops!

Oasis IS Britpop. Regardless of how one feels about the group, they are what most think of when it comes to this era of Britpop explosion/revival in the 90's. There's just a little more polish with them and the guitars are heavier than most of the other acts. Once again, another example of a group finding their footing pretty much right out of the gate. Sure, some of the lyricism is pretty nonsensical (i.e. the enunciation in "Cigarettes & Alcohol" is pretty funny), but it's a righteous romp mostly all the way through. Singles such as "Live Forever" and "Supersonic" highlight the record, but some of the lesser known tracks I personally enjoyed were "Rock 'n' Roll Star" and "Slide Away". The Gallagher brothers were/are pretty insufferable, but they, along with "Bonehead", "Guigsy", and McCarroll created something good here. And boy, they were just getting started too...

Overrated and headache inducing. I guess I value the Gallagher bros more as personas than I do as musicians. So many unbelievable quotes in the press. Loads of great tweets and interview clips. I thought that would translate to an enjoyable 90s rock album. Nope. Hopefully Maybe it gets better after this, but this one was packed with too many boring retreads of great British musical movements that came before, be it the Manchester sound, glam rock or the Beatles. Definitely Maybe some groups are better at being rock stars than they are at being bands.

Decent, I can see why it was so popular when it released and how it might have changed the genre, but it's been so far eclipsed by their later work and others that I'd rather listen to.
Just a fun rock album.
It’s generic rock flavoured Brit-pop. There’s really not a lot more to say about this record than that. It was clearly written with the intent of generating radio singles, and I’m not overly sure if it succeeded. I’ve seen Oasis live and yet I still didn’t recognize a single song on this album. It’s not particularly helpful that they all sounds strikingly similar, and it seems to be a distinctly different style of rock flavoured Brit-pop than the sound they later found extreme success with like “Champagne Supernova” and “Wonderwall” from the album released after this one. I don’t care for it, but I don’t hate it. It’s just generic and boring. 2 stars. Meh.
Maybe I've been too harsh on these guys. Being British and having everyone sing the big 2 oasis songs at me has poisoned my mind, it seems. I actually enjoyed it! They do have a unique sound, something bright and polished with an edge. Very solid

I bought this when it came out and liked it a lot. Now, thirty years on, and having listened to a lot more and more varied music, I can hear how basic, plodding and dull it is. I remember it was a double LP but really, it wastes an awful lot of space on that format (each side is only about 15 minutes rather than pushing 25). I can't help thinking they could lose a song or two and definitely lose a minute or two of uninteresting music from each of the songs.
I liked this more than I thought I would. It must be the Manchester chav in my ancestry.

Never got Oasis and their music then, certainly don't get it now. Just find it very vanilla and uncaptivating.

4.5/5 I knew I would really love Oasis, but I stopped myself from having an Oasis phase when I was 15 because I didn't want to be a cliche... I regret that now. I wish I had more years of enjoying their discography. I'm glad I have to listen now - I loved this so much. I feel sick with nostalgia thinking about the UK this album was made in, though. I don't have the energy to explain further but I'm sure others understand. Standout tracks: - Live forever - Supersonic - Bring it on down - Slide away (lead guitar 10/10)
Deeply unpleasant from start to finish. Characterized by trite, repetitive and uninspired lyrics with instrumentation to match. The first 15-20 seconds of each song were almost enjoyable as a reprieve from the previous, but by 2:30 I wished that it, too, would end. Instead, every song rambles on far beyond its welcome. I suspect that copious drug use and terrible music were a bit of a chicken-and-egg dilemma for Oasis, and one I am entirely uninterested in cracking. Choosing a favorite song feels a bit like choosing the STD I’d most like to contract, but I’d have to go with “Married with Children”. 3/10.
WHAT. A. BANGER. I absolutely LOVE this album. It has probably been top5 of 24 for me. I discovered Oasis in Jan24 and they haven't got out of rotation yet. This record is a true no-skips. I love the tons of overdubbing guitars and the wall of sound they create. So many classics like 'Supersonic', 'Cigarettes and Alcohol' and pretty much the whole record is made of classic tracks. Wish I could give this 6 stars. It is that good. SUN-SHEE-INEEEEE.
Well it’s an album I now know very well but at the time of release I was initially ambivalent towards it. I was well aware of the Britpop thing but more perhaps by the media coverage rather than listening to the music. I didn’t care too much about how Oasis conducted themselves. I thought that they were just big mouth Manc’s not appealing to me at all as someone born and bred in Yorkshire just over the border. So I was late to the Oasis party. But it was hard to escape the media hype and the constant plays on the radio and eventually I did realise that despite their personas the Gallagher brothers were indeed very competent musicians. So whilst this album probably escaped me the subsequent Oasis albums did very much appeal to me and that there is no doubt they have recorded some of the best rock songs ever. Some of their best songs were yet to come but there are some real bangers on this album Supersonic and Live Forever the standout tracks for me. Whilst perhaps not an out and out fanboy I do still love listening to all the Oasis albums including this. I do now have all their albums in my collection. I also recently spent a wasted all day Saturday online trying to get tickets for the Oasis reunion (or Noel Gallagher divorce fund) tour 2025 as I was never inclined to see them first time round. So those two facts mean that Oasis and this album have made a big impact on my musical life and my rating reflects this. 5/5 27/9/24
