Reviews (page 9 of 14)
Very overplayed but not unenoyable
Generally fairly unbothered about Oasis but I was quite up for it when Rock n Roll Star kicked in. My excitement did tail off halfway through an album of very similar sounding tracks, though there are a few classics. Weirdly ploddier tempos than I remember.
I said maaaaybeeeee you're gonna be the one that saves meeeeee wait, is that not it?
Bon ptit rock n roll
Most every song has the feeling of an album opener. I don’t know how that feels.
Ok
I’ve never listened to an Oasis album. Never liked them. But this was better than I expected.
Pretty ok, nice chord progressions and melodies, all sounds kind of the same though. Decent Brit alt pop.
I’m excited that I don’t recognize any song titles here. The opening track is good so far. Turns out I know “live forever”. This is pretty good album so far.
First listen. I get the hype now.
Not a bad album by any means, but I really don't understand why Oasis is so highly regarded. For me this was a perfectly fine britpop album with some nasally vocals and clean & catchy guitar riffs. Nothing special, but nothing too bad. Top tracks: Supersonic, Cigarette & Alcohol, Married with Children
Nothing great, but nothing bad here. It kind of blended together honestly. I have never been the biggest Oasis fan, so I'm not surprised I'm indifferent to this album. I'd recommend to any rock lover though.
This was fine. Good for a Friday
First thing I've heard by Oasis, and it's pretty good, does nothing that separates it from other rock stuff but still has some great songs
Live Forever is a great single but the rest of the album doesn't hold up.
I just don’t get this band. They could be anyone. Solidly produced but just not special or interesting.
I feel very conflicted on this album. I enjoy the sound of the guitars, but I don't love Liam's dragging vocals. It sounds like every other British rock album, which isn't necessarily bad, but doesn't leaving me wanting more. Favorite Song: Live Forever
This is a pretty good first LP. I particularly liked Rock n Roll Star n Supersonic. Too many songs sounding similar or they would earn another star.
Meh. I find Liam and Noel Oasis kind of insufferable, and that really affects how I perceive this album. I like the sound they're going for, and I like some of the songs on this album (Live Forever!!), but I'm just never gonna listen to this again.
Perfect title for this album.
Favorite Track: Live Forever
I’m a fan. It’s interesting how long lasting this sound has been. Thinking of bands like Arctic Monkeys and Gorillaz which still have some similar sounds
Enjoyed this. Didn't realize the one with champagne supernova was their sophomore effort, this is a really solid first album.
A couple of good tracks if you can make your way through the nasal whine. Overall this is good, but not outstanding.
Oasis biggest strengths: - Their attitude/ego - Their lyrics Oasis biggest weaknesses: - Their attitude/ego - Their lyrics Live forever is Definitely maybe their best song of all time
Mid
pretty good
great oasis record
Not bad but not GOAT.
This is most definitely a rock album. I like rock albums. I'll probably give every Led Zeppelin album I encounter on this journey five stars. This rock album just doesn't seem particularly notable. I'm glad I was in Canada bingeing Collective Soul while Blur and Oasis were fighting for the top of the UK charts in the mid 90s.
Love this sound, like the album but their second one is really the masterpiece
alright
not bad
Solid across the board
I was definitely maybe somewhat ok with this.
Definitely Maybe worth another listen
Different view of Oasis now I read the lyrics. They played Wembley Arena when I worked at Wembley but I didn’t bother going to see them. Higher rating now than then because of the lyrics and Gaynor bumped into Noel in Waitrose in Beaconsfield when she pitched his trolley and he was nice to her🤓
I’m not a fan of Oasis so was pleasantly surprised to enjoy this by the end. Although front loaded by some of the most uninspiring rock music I’ve ever heard, something happens to this record halfway through Columbia and it becomes louder, more earnest and more interesting. Fav track: Slide Away
Esperaba algo más pete pero definitivamente tienen lo suyo (un popurri de lo de siempre) Nota: 2.6
It's alright. Maybe if they stuck with this type of sound, they wouldn't be the bastard of the Britpop 3: illegitimate usurpers to the rightful throne of Britpop which, in my opinion, belongs to either Blur or Pulp. But back to this: it's Britpop, optimistic compared to across-the-Atlantic grunge, but it has its shades of punk and northern-tinged sardonicism, lending it some hair on its nether regions. And Liam's vocals--a mainstream version of PiL Johnny Lydon--add a layer of gleeful insouciance. But it does lose its charm when half of the tracks are greater than or hover around five minutes in length and they're really not that groundbreaking. They're not the Sex Pistols/PiL, they're not The Clash, fucking a, they're nowhere near Squeeze; they don't reach anywhere close to real post-punk badass abandon, nor are they concise enough to craft a legit pop-rock killer LP. Still, it was enjoyable, and it shows that Oasis did actually have something going, a smidge of potential. Too bad they totally lost it just a few years later. What utter gobshite they devolved into, ugh.
Album correct. Quelques bonnes tounes, mais le reste est assez ordinaire. Un soupçon de Beatles, mais sans le génie.
It’s good
Pretty cool
Good solid rock but gotta admit I don’t hear anything earth shattering here - kind of a poor man’s Bruce Springsteenish vibe
Oasis makes fine music, but the Gallagher brothers are seriously insufferable.
Meh. It’s ok, but comes off as a bit whiny.
boring is the worst I can say about it, for a debut a pretty good sound and mix. Not my usual but alright
Had never actually listened to the whole thing. I am a 90s teen so definitely maybe knew most of their songs... Sorta repetitive, cool music.
Anyway, here is no Wonderwall Oasis hat 2-3 geile Songs und ansonsten ist es halt gleichklingender Britpop.
Enjoyable, some singable hits on here. I've always liked oasis but never got there global success. I think they are very inoffensive. A lot like pesto pasta, there's nothing wrong with it, it since, but you wouldn't mind something more.
It’s a classic
Ya it was alright. Oasis I mean, like, yeah. It was Oasis, they have 3-4 songs i really like and then everything else sounds the same.
I generally don’t like Oasis, they are supposed to be anthemic but if I want anthems I would go to Alarm, Big Country and U2. I think they were part of that whole Britpop debacle and the artists I liked during that mad time didn’t really fit into that genre so it passed me by. Having said that, I have had a look and the songs I find okay of theirs are on their What’s the Story Morning Glory album (little nod to Nilsson there) and so I will wait for that album, which I am prettttty sure is on here to make up my mind.
Apart from the final track, it sounded like one long song. Still enjoyable, though.
requires a relisten
Good, but not polished and catchy yet.
Not a bad debut as long as you credit the inspirational bands that came before. Peak of Noel’s songwriting powers.
I knew the hits but hasn't listened to a full album. Turns out Oasis is more bland than I expected.
I was in Oasis as a teen. Live Forever was absolutely something to listen to when you were in the throes in your bedroom. Anyways, I don't know that it's aged well as an entire album for me. The second half was not nearly as fun as I remember.
Perfectly serviceable, nothing crazy.
Oasis sounding like Oasis. I like Oasis, so I enjoyed the album
I don't love Oasis' bluster. I think it's absurd for them to claim they are bigger than the Beatles. But if I put aside their persona, their music is not bad. The tracks I liked on this album are the big ones: Live Forever and Supersonic.
I neither buy into Oasis's self-generated hype, nor can I bring myself to dislike them on general principle. With those extreme removed, I feel like you are left with 2-3 solid singles, surrounded by a bunch of songs whose primary sin is just sounding too fuzzily similar. Lowish 3.
A few good ones but the song writing just isn’t there for me. Plus I prefer what’s the story morning glory
I mean this is your basic 90s British indie rock, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. Usually a pretty enjoyable listen with some good songs.
Good
FAVO: Live forever, Supersonic, Married with children
Yeah , bit mixed really , some good tunes , some average. Struggle with the Brothers appearing to be total knobheads and there’s definitely a point lost for that !!
Fun album innit
Nukahduttavaa hyvällä tavalla
Decent album, maybe good for running. Many of the songs sounded similar to each other. Listened while lifting at events center.
Good, but it’s oasis
Not usually an Oasis fan. This was ok
Would rate 3.5 if I could. Enjoyable listen through the end, though I did start thinking that Liam Gallagher might be the Brit-rock Bob Dylan with how nasally he’d lean into the vocals in some tracks. Ultimately the album presents itself as inoffensive and digestible tunes. Nothing that really blows me away, but I could see myself returning to a few tracks. Favorites: Slide Away, Married With Children, Up In The Sky, Live Forever
This is a pretty solid album. The songs are all pretty good and catchy, but a couple are forgettable. Oasis seems to have trouble ending some songs when I think they should and they drag a bit. Standouts were "Rock 'n' Roll Star" "Up In The Sky" and "Cigarettes & Alcohol" All in all, pretty solid. I'd say nothing to write home about but a good collection of fun tunes. A pretty good effort for a debut album! 3/5 for me.
Czasami rozumiem fenomen Oasis. Ale przy tej płycie? Niezbyt. Przekombinowana, trochę nadęta i jednak brakuje mi jakiejś harmonii w tych kompozycjach. Doceniam kilka kawałków, ale całość jest nieco rozczarowująca. 6/10
I like this more than their other album. There is more of a bite, it's a bit more exciting. There seems to be more emphasis on riffs (Cigarettes & Alcohol sounds like T Rex) and there are some good solos like Bring It On Down. The muddy production probably helps as well, if feels more sleazy and probably gives it a better sense of personality than a squeaky clean, sleek style The production is a bit of a double-edged sword though as after a while a lot of it starts getting kind of samey as the instruments are constantly muddled together. The way the end of words is stretched out is sort of annoying too, like Live Foreveeeeaaaaaaaaaah This is a decent album, and I didn't expect to say that because I started the generator not liking Oasis at all. I wasn't there when they were the biggest band in the world but even people younger than me idolise this stuff so I have to just admit I don't really get it Highlights: Rock 'N' Roll Star
Oasis is one of those bands I’d love to rediscover now, without the prejudices of my teens. They’re one of those bands I really want to like, but they just don’t do anything for me. Maybe it’s Liam’s voice, maybe it’s his cocky attitude, maybe it’s that I can’t listen without “I SAID MAYBEEEEEEEEE” playing on loop in my head, or maybe I just can’t connect with what they sing. It’s not you, it’s me. Still, I gave it a proper listen, and at times I caught Beatles vibes, just with that ’90s irreverence.
Egomaniacal rockers. But had a helluva sound.
Oasis siendo oasis
Fun, peppy pop - lots of fluff, not a ton of substance.
Good, not great, though the next record would be much closer to great, before the returns quickly got diminishing to the point of disappearing. Gets off to bad start because rock and roll songs about rock and roll are notably – and famously – passe. High and undeniable doofiness factor, especially lyrically (e.g., “Feelin’ supersonic / Give me gin and tonic;" "she did it with a doctor/in a helicopter”) which is perhaps an occupational hazard for bands of the people. While most tracks are solid (and pretty straightforward, if overdone), only “Live Forever” truly stands out as approaching anything like transcendence. Feels like a slog when it’s meant to soar. Do they need to repeat “slide away” a dozen and a half times in a row to end that otherwise fine song? Was it thought that the repetition would make it seem more important or, like, heavier? Plus it’s overlong, patience-testingly so. The overall effect is of a big fat wedge of chugging and bludgeony and samey and laddish rock embicility. Again, morning glory is much the better record. Please, people don’t but reunion tour tix or we’ll never see the back of these allegedly populist yobs. Better than Blur, sure but not by much. And suffers from the same problem: they are not nearly as clever or cool as they think they are and it was mostly knuckleheads who made them think so in the first place.
pretty good iconinc album. very much defines a time period and I like the pop punk rock blend but it is pretty self similar throughout
2.5 stars
Probably a victim of over hype. Oasis is so popular that this album feels like a let down. In a vacuum, it would probably be 4 stars. But I was expecting more from it. Is it unfair to rate it lower for that reason? Maybe.
Good, fun and enjoyable album overall.
Not familiar Favorite song: Columbia
It's alright. I didn't hate it but after a while all the songs sound the same and I started to wonder when each damn track was going to finally be over, especially on the back half. (What's the Story) Morning Glory was one of my first CDs but I don't think I've ever listened to this one before, probably because I assumed the above would be true.
Like most Americans, I liked Oasis but mostly for their 2nd album, plus when this when came out raising a family was priority # 1, listening to family friendly stuff like Barney etc. If I could rewind I’d pay more attention to the brotherly love show.
Not their best, but not bad.
It's good. Not great, not bad. There are a couple of very good tracks, then a whole lot of the same thing, average 90s rock. 3.5
I enjoyed it. Idk why people say Oasis sounds like The Beatles because they dont
Today was a busy day and I didn’t get completely through it although largely familiar with the band and their hits in the 90s. The songs I didn’t know feel comfortable and familiar but something about the mix just isn’t right…the tone is too bright and annoyingly fuzzy on several songs especially those early on. In short, I didn’t hear anything that was truly new or amazing which summarizes my feelings about the band decades ago. Live Forever and Wonderwall are brilliant…everything else just sort of feels meh. 3/5
it's surprisingly good. gotta hand this to them
"My brother is lemon!"
The record was good and had a couple of captivating tracks. The songwriting was good. The melodies were enjoyable. I feel like some of the deeper cuts were forgettable. Favourite Track(s): Shakermaker, Supersonic, Slide Away. Least Favourite Track(s): Up in the Sky
Oasis. Prima muziek, niet heel bijzonder. Gwn lekker voor op de achtergrond
Different than what I expected
Pretty decent
Thought I'd hate this but I didn't. People tend to hate his nasal voice but to me, feels like he's accentuating the vowels on purpose...maybe to make a point More pop than I'd anticipated
Some good songs, takes me back to the 90s
The ultimate 3 star band. Why do people treat Oasis reuniting like a second coming when Third Eye Blind has been kicking it non stop this whole time?
I grew up listening to oasis because my dad was a GIGANTIC fan... help me I always judged oasis albums as a kid by looking if they had ''Don't turn your back in anger'' on them. I think kid me is rolling in her time grave rn (not on this one) - Overall: okay! I dont care all too much for Oasis as I would other britpop bands...
Rock 'n' Roll star is a great energy opening. A lot of the happiness I get from this is probably nostalgia. I didn't play Oasis songs but heard the album a lot with my brother. As a result I didn't over listen to it since and it comes as a nice return.
My review of this is very influenced by the fact that I originally listened to this over two days. I'd had to break my listen yesterday afternoon so listened to the last 3 tracks this morning. My experience was so different I ended up going back and having a second listen. First time through Liam's vocal style and stretched vowels dominated, not always grating but overpowering. Second time the music came to the front, the guitar and percussion uncovered. Both times Supersonic and Cigarettes and Alcohol stood out, Married with Children was also a nice finish, I'd have liked to have more of that.
Rock n Roll Star - good statement of intent song for a debut album Shaker Maker - not sure this aged as well. The Coca Cola advert music bit jars against an otherwise ok song Live Forever - this is well written. Noel Gallagher showing a bit of talent. Hard for me to enjoy with fresh ears given how many times I’ve heard this belted out karaoke style. Good single, madly over played Up in the Sky - is more interesting. Stone Roses influenced rock. Meaningless lyrics. Wish the whole album went with this sound Columbia - this is pretty forgettable, sounds like Heathen Chemistry. It’s not bad but it’s not good either Supersonic - again over played. But this is probably as strong as they get. The low sludge guitar works on this. Nonsense lyrics but not annoyingly. Chorus is good Bring on Down - kind of forgettable. Nice vibe to second half of the song. A couple minutes of rock no singing Cigarettes and Alcohol - best song on the album alongside Supersonic. Sure it’s a set format pop song. But it’s anthemic in a way that doesn’t grate for me Digsys Dinner - sounds like a demo take. Absolute garbage. Slide Away - Noel can write. Loses it a bit on the bridge. Refreshing to get an attempt at some reflective lyrics. Ends up getting shoe horned into a big chorus though “ Slide Awaayyyy” Married with Children - sounds like something Blur would write. Makes you realise why Liam doesn’t sing on the quiet songs Strong 3/5
I loved this album as a child. I was a big Oasis fan at one time, after many years away my memories of it is better then actually sticking it on. Rock n Roll star is a great opener - lots of energy and personality. I also loved closing tracks Slide Away and Married with Children, which really caught me. But then there’s songs like Shakermaker which have aged very badly. This song has the especially unforgiving placement of track 2. The most impressive thing about this debut is that despite them being heavily inspired by The Stone Roses (note how Noel sings “SHINNNNEEE”) they have a very clear identity of its own. This identity is lost on later records.
My first full Oasis album, something I’ve been avoiding my whole life. Actually pretty solid and could be a 4 if Liam’s voice and personality didn’t grate on me quite so much.
Never been a big fan but works really well in the background.
Light on bangers! Live Forever, Rock 'n' Roll Star, Slide Away are true greats. Runs long. I still would have seen Oasis in a heartbeat, if I were in Cardiff.
Overly familiar with it so it does not hold my interest these days
⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Some highs on this album, but still not a whiny 90’s band fan.
Definitely the best thing I've heard from Oasis. Still Oasis.
Good but again another over played so it's fine for the background
OK! So I've never listened to more than the one oasis song lol. But I feel like I wasn't expecting such upbeat rock. I know that a lot of people LOVE Oasis. It's very stoner rock-ish. I don't really mind it, but I don't know if I like it per say. It's sorta boring me lol, all washing into one. Jk! It really picked up in the middle! Okay so this one is fine. I wouldn't be opposed to someone else listening to it, but I would never listen to it on my own. It's not bad, just not to my taste. I liked the slower songs on the album, so that seems to be my preferred Oasis vibe apparently.
Still hate the Gallagher brothers. Rest of the band seems fine.
Decent. Catchy generic sound, but on the back end hasn't aged much.
It’s alright. Live forever is a great track.
A classic but not really groundbreaking to my ears.
Solid (brit pop) rock album. But not good enough for the Gallagher brothers to the insufferable ass-hats that they are about it.
It's definitely maybe ok
It was definitely ok. I like their later releases better, but this is a solid album.
A good album, but I just don’t think I am an oasis person
The tracks on this one blended together quite a bit for me. There were some enjoyable bits in there for sure, and nothing was bad. I just can't name much that stood out to me on this one Standouts Supersonic Married With Children 3/5
Unlike albums like Out of the Blue, I'm not already an Oasis fan, so this album is pretty forgettable to me. Got a few solid tracks, though I'm unaware of what the singles are. Very early The Who vibes from me.
Not bad but still overrated
Enjoyable! Not too intense, or too mellow
I actually like the guy’s voice Edit Apr 15 2026: 4 --> 3
Really liked the last track. The rest was meh
This was better than expected. :)
It's not a bad album, but the songs blend together after a while. "Supersonic" remains a good jam. 3.3
Their legacy makes the album complicated to like.
Quite noisy, the following record has much better songs. i like the photo though.
Some fantastic songs but also some that I didn’t care for.
What good
Well I’m a bit disappointed. All good songs and vibes, generally a good album, yet nothing significant in there for me, perhaps I needed to let it sink in. Nothing grabbed me by the collar, nothing had me in a chokehold. I’m not amazed. It did not do the thing that don’t look back in anger does for me. Sadly.
Prima albumpie! Niet baanbrekend maar luistert lekker weg tijdens het opruimen en lezen :)
Easy listening, i LUVED “married with children”, made me fucking cackle. I would listen to a 30 minute bandcamp album of that whole vibe (michael cera?) A lot of the rest felt good to me but not amazing, maybe 3-4 stars leaning 3. Definitely better than echo and the bunnymen lol. Very first album vibes
Super mid. Weirdly mid considering what came next.
Incredibly catchy song writing. Can see why it sold millions.
When this album came out, I hated it. I still don't like Oasis or the ego they present to this day. It was really rich of them to come out and say they're the next Beatles and everyone should worship us. Neither one of these goons could even come close to writing a song as good as John Lennon or George Harrison. Album is OK, Nothing special as they would want you to think. 3.05/5 = 3 stars
For whatever reason I never really got into this album back in the day. Live Forever is great. Supersonic is ok. Cigarettes & Alcohol sounds like a cover of Bang a Gong. A bunch of the songs drag on a bit at the end. There are some pretty great riffs.
I would have told you that I’d definitely heard Oasis’ debut album. Maybe? But it turns out that most of it is not familiar to me. I know “Live Forever.” It’s a great song. But the rest of the album is just good. Overall it’s just not on the same level as “What’s the Story, Morning Glory.”
Really a 3.5, definitely, maybe…
What a difference a year made. From this baseline of promising mediocrity came (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? The Gallagher brothers learned, evolved, and stepped up their game. I’m not quite sure why this album is on the list.
Just... ok. First time listening to Oasis voluntarily and I find it all sounded the same after a while.
Dude, again? There are too many bands out there to have multiples of the same artist.. You can't deny the hits, but I don't like Oasis and I'm not going to start now, so I'll give this a 3.
Well, it's okay, this jangly-retro Britpop album. It's kinda funny, Liam's bratty vowel-maxxing delivery, opening wide to make the most out of every dipthong and tripthong. The album neither bothers me nor particularly thrills me. If you asked me if I liked it, I might reply "definitely maybe."
Blur better
glad i listened!
You know, I'm one of those people that only knew Wonderwall. Good to hear other stuff from them, I know they were/are very popular but I can't say it's for me.
It's been a while, but I'm sure I've listened to this one once or twice. I've always enjoyed some stuff by Oasis, but never really had anything click when going through their first few albums, and find myself enjoying the singles the most. I will admit I haven't given their early albums more than 3-4 listens, but again, just didn't really have much to really grab me, and the same can be said for this album. I suppose the Gallagher brothers' reputation of being hall of fame douchebags probably hasn't inspired much more digging into their music by me, for what it's worth. The music is fine and totally tolerable, but as far as the "britpop" sound, I'm much more likely to gravitate towards the early Radiohead albums first and foremost amongst others. It is interesting to make note of this music being released towards the end of Seattle's grunge influence, and it couldn't be further from the Seattle sound. Of course this is a very influential album maybe in part due to this contrast, and I wonder if it would have made the same waves if released a few years earlier, before people started to get a bit tired of the grunge sound. While listening this time around I was kind of struck by the album's dull production; even listening to the most modern remaster it's just not a good sounding record. It is interesting because it sounds like they tried to record with a couple producers they weren't happy with, describing the sound of the first attempt as thin and lacking life. Either the Gallagher brothers were full of their usual brand of bullshit, or that session sounded REALLY bad.
definitely oasis
Even more boring than I expected
Meh
Definitely….Maybe this is a good album.
Aight
Fine, some classic songs but I've always preferred what's the story
Definitely most apt album title relative to the quality of the band ever. Big props to the bass player though, he is underrated.
I had expectations going into this, unfortunately, because musicians i know are obsessed with oasis. It’s definitely a mindset, but dudes being guys playing music isn’t ground breaking to me. Gonna have to listen to original versus remaster though to hear the difference. The remaster sounds really refined, so I’m curious if that was genuinely their sound at the time or their experience coming through on it after the fact.
rock n roll star is now a key piece of my argument of why first albums are so special kind of a samey back half
Decent rock album with two songs going to my favorites - live forever - up in the sky
Good mix
Agh I am getting tired of the brit pop albums. It's ok ig
6/10
Great electric guitar, I'm mixed on the vocals. Live Forever is awesome. Overall, it's no (What's the Story) Morning Glory, but it's a solid album.
End songs carried the album. Was ok but it's definitely no The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.
Definitely Mediocre
It was good but I had higher expectations.
I don't exactly remember when I first heard this album, but I think it was after I heard What's The Story. While the latter is a much better record, this one is still pretty solid. I was only ever a casual Oasis fan though, I think I owned an album or two of theirs at some point. I remember around the time this came out people were talking about a British Invasion Part 2, and I suppose that is true to some degree. Certainly this album kicked off a huge influx of Brit pop bands into the mainstream, at least here in the US. This is a decent record that holds up surprisingly well. I feel like you could have told me this album came out any time post 2000 and I wouldn't have had reason to not believe you. Great guitar work and wonderful sounding guitars. Simple but effective drums and bass. I dig it. I don't know that I would really seek this one out, but I might play it now and again if I happened to find it somewhere. 3/5
It was okay
Loved to listen to but didn’t have much that really stuck with me. Maybe it was the listening environment or the 90s but I feel like I couldn’t hear the different parts in the songs. You really hear the difference when you compare any song with Married with Children. Caught between a 3 and 4 here. Shakermaker, Live Forever, and Married with Children got a like.

This is one of those albums that is potentially harder to rate because I was not there when it was released. Its a fun album, it is full of good songs that are self-assured, strong and bring out emotions. They are fun songs that rock and add to the music of the era. In retrospect the band is plagued by their weird sibling rivalry that destroyed their band. Overall it is enjoyable and I would go back to it, but with other bands coming up, this one kind of becomes one of many bands of that time. Its still a banger, but in retrospect maybe not as much of a banger as it was at the time.
It is fine, I guess. But a bit overhyped. 7/10
Not too bad, enjoyed some songs even though they sounded the same 3/5
Can appreciate Oasis and how influencial this record was. Live forever is a tune, but tbh not the biggest fan of their sound.
Definitely Maybe wasn't a big deal in the US. At least it wasn't for me. I don't think they really hit the scene until What's the Story, Morning Glory. That being said, this was a cool album. I read up on the recording of it, and they did a lot of work to get it sounding good, and I think it paid off.
Good album made for arenas.
I figured this had to be on here. I guess it's better than a lot of the other britpop stuff on this list.
Not listened to this for a while, and for good reason. This album has not aged well. I can understand that at the time this was part of the Brit pop zeitgeist but unfortunately them days are long past. Basically this is uninspiring music played by uninspiring musicians. Apart from the big hits, rock n roll and C&A, this is quite mundane and I am being generous in giving 3 stars.
Neither Meh or Wow. Solid rock and roll.
Never been much of an Oasis guy but did have a sweet spot for this album, I had the CD. On relisten I find it quite uninspiring. It is very very samey, especially the drums. Cigarettes & Alcohol is catchy, but its just TRex's Bang a Gong. This album is 4 or 5 catchy hooks, that are mostly derivative of very obvious influences, drowned in horrible guitar tones. Favorite Tracks; Rock N Roll Star, Live Forever, Supersonic, Cigarettes & Alcohol 3/5
Some cool songs. After a while it can get a bit annoying, but then this subsides as well again.
It is a good debut album, expertly produced and performed. But in terms of all the great music that was coming out from 1990-1995, it's just sort of...blah. Can we please move past the Stones and the Beatles at some point? I know the answer is "no", but I still need to ask. This album would sound fine on any light rock radio station today. Bland, safe, and boring.
There are some good songs on here but overall, I don't understand how it was as big as it was, especially for a debut without a dedicated fanbase. Nothing on here is anywhere close to the quality of Wonderwall or Champagne Supernova or would even lead listeners to believe they were capable of creating songs like those.
This one actually is a 3 isn't it? Some good hits (Live Forever, Supersonic), some overrated hits (Rock and Roll Star, Cigarettes and Alcohol) and some mid songs (Everything that wasn't a single).
Solid album, but nothing really compelled me or changed my view of Oasis. Will always think of them as the band that made Wonderwall
A little disappointed it didn't have Wonderwall, but it was ok.
I like it. Mainly has a grungy sound but not as much as many other grunge bands.
3.5★. Thoroughly fun, although relistening to the first half again and the magic seems to be fading already, so who knows if Oasis (or this album) will become something that I revisit more than once.
This record hasn’t aged well. It’s overly long and there’s too much filler. Columbia seems to go on forever, and the second verse of Supersonic includes several of the worst rhyming couplets ever written. That said, the snarl of Rock ‘n’ Roll Star and the swagger of Cigarettes and Alcohol still take me back to drunken nights in Camden in the mid nineties.
I like the album What's the Story Morning Glory a lot, but I don't really know this one very well. I really only recognized Live Forever. The other songs seem good, so I will need to listen again.
A good album but I find it a bit overrated. I don’t feel the whole album is as strong as others.
Ehhh
That was oasis that’s for sure
The Good: Uncertainty abounds… The Bad: Well, maybe… The Ugly: Being reminded that we are old farts… I would give tons to be able to go back in time, relive the ‘90s, party my ass off, maybe pay a little more attention in class, or which concerts to attend! My musical pallet was NOT up for Oasis, probably because I was into other sounds; grunge and Texas Roadhouse mainly, Britpop, however, was lacking. Sure, Oasis has nice guitar sound, and melodies are great too. But that fahkin’ annoying voice… Also, I was living on the other side of the pond where people couldn’t really give a rats ass about Oasis or Blur or any of the wankers that believed they were the second coming of John Lennon. If I would not know the provenance of this album, just have to listen to this with “cold” ears, for the very first time, I would not change my mind… This album is not for me, and the vocals are one of the main reasons. So, am I looking forward to other Oasis albums? No. Will I hail this album as great? No. Should this album be on the list? Well, fucking YES… but that doesn’t take away the fact that I will do my best at lowering the average rating as I can’t in good faith give this album more than a 5/10, which I am up-grading to a 3*
Tried to go into this with ‘fresh ears’ and an open mind, as it comes with a lot of baggage; my conclusion…poor songwriting rescued by Liam’s undoubted star quality. Every song drags itself along at exactly the same tempo as the last. The rhythm section are actually terrible. The drums are plodding and is there a bassist? The lyrics sound like they’ve been generated by AI - snippets of half remembered lines from better songwriters, cobbled together randomly so as to lose any coherent meaning. There are one or two moments of light (for example the opening riff of supersonic is amazing), but generally the music is dull. The saving grace (as mentioned already), is Liam’s delivery which against all odds still manages to make the poor songwriting sound exciting. He of course, oozes attitude… In the debate about which Gallagher brother is the real talent, there really is only one answer imo. I wish Liam had been the front man for a better band. If you played these tracks shorn of Liam’s genuinely electric presence, you would be hard pressed to find much of interest in them at all imo.
Someone said this album "defined a generation"; well it wasn't my generation. I've always regarded Oasis as a band that produced "a few good singles" and listening to this, the first studio album of theirs I have listened to, confirms it for me. There really is no depth here. The musicianship is "high school rock band" level, there is a lot of noise but it is all quite simplistic. I didn't dislike it, so I suppose, grudgingly, a 3/5.
maaaaybe i dont really wanna knoooow
Another solid pop rock outing by the band, not quite full of hits as some of the other release though. Oasis introduced their style on this debut, which is light and airy British pop, with nice song structures and positive lyrical themes. Nothing is too good on this album, but there is also nothing bad, it's a light listen.
cool
Live Forever tiene un pedacito en mi corazón, se que no es la super revolución músical. La guitarra es muy animada y pegajosa, mientras que las vocales de Liam me son nostalgicas. Disfrutable, pero nada que me vuele la cabeza,
Was it good? Definitely. Are Oasis great? Maybe?
Live Forever is incredible. The others range from pretty good to meh
Sounds like they're trying to bridge the gap between grunge and indie rock, and didn't do either particularly well. Here's the funniest thing tho - In the remastered version, they must have remixed it to crank up the whiney voices! What a goof! ...what do you mean that's just how they sound?
Huh... Wasn't expecting it to be enjoyable... Dull at times but good overall
J’aime le rock pop d’Oasis, mais, après What the Story (Morning Glory), je me demande pourquoi cet album-ci se retrouve dans le palmarès également… Ils me paraissent très similaires
It was fun and good oasis is fun idk i don't have much else to say
Honestly don't love it. In parts, it's just a bit noisy. Definitely some really strong songs, but some just push the distorted guitar sound too far. Excessive use of feedback too. Still some great songs. 6/10
I like Oasis as much as the next person and there are some good songs on this, but I'd daresay Morning Glory is superior...
Has hits, but not really my style
Even the best Brit pop is too much brit pop
Never been an Oasis fan, but this was definitely maybe better than I expected.
Not bad but kinda forgettable.
I Definitely Maybe think this album is better than I last remembered. The back half is significantly better than the first half once you get to Supersonic.
The second Oasis album on this list and it's just as boring as the first one. It's just one bland song after another and they all sound the same.
Pretty good album but it's about 3-4 songs too long.
There's nice high distortion rock in here with satisfying layering. Unfortunately, there's also this guy wailing over all of it. I really wish he would be quiet.
Ehh meh
It was alright
perchance
That was definitely Oasis. Maybe I enjoyed it, probably it was "fine".
Rock 'n' Roll Star 3.4 Shakermaker 3.5 Live Forever 3.6 Up in the Sky 3.4 Columbia 3.3 Supersonic 3.7 Bring It On Down 3.6 Cigarettes & Alcohol 3.6 Digsy's Dinner 3.4 Slide Away 3.5 Married with Children 3.3 Score: 3.481818182
I like this album more than What’s the Story but its still has not aged well for me.
As a kid I was totally fine with plain white bread but that was primarily due to the fact that I hadn’t explored other breads, more interesting bread. Bread with grains and texture to it, more flavour. Now, I’ll eat plain white bread if that’s all ya got to offer but I’m not necessarily stoked about it. It’s fine. 3 stars
Not a big fan of Oasis. Nothing wrong with this but all songs kinda sound the same
This was real fun. Pretty straightforward (to my modern ears; I guess they were revolutionary in their time probably) indie rock. Almost a power pop sound.
Anyway, where’s “Wonderwall”?? Liam Gallagher always sounds like he’s whining. This album is fine, but I can’t unhear that.
Jaime 3, Nuria 4
Pretty alright, this guy's voice kind of gets annoying
Pretty good
Like Oasis. Like their later albums better.
Oy bruv, it's no Morning Glory, innit?
rockier than i thought, not that i'd make any difference. my experience listening to it was rather mediocre
It was hard to describe this album. Oasis was one of those bands that rose through the ranks to become one of the best bands in the world, then discovered it was only in the Gallagher brothers’ heads. This album is good but, maybe reflectively, sounds like so much other stuff. They’re kind of the Nickelback of Britpop: likable, familiar; formulaic. Up the Sky was an ear grabbing track, and Cigaette’s and Alcohol had an almost G. Thoroughgood vibe to it. They’re kind entire album felt like it should have been in either a Mike Myers or pre-Joker Heath Ledger movie.
This isn’t the first time I’ve listened to this one. I tried to “get into” Oasis a few years back. I listened to most of their catalog. I just didn’t catch the bug. I like the 3 big hits from What’s the Story but everything else fell flat for me. I guess this just isn’t my cup of tea. Anyway, Cigarettes and Alcohol kinda jumped out at me on this listen but this is a definitely no for me.
I like the Oasis sound but this one doesn’t have any really memorable songs for me
I just think its a bit boring altho funny enough it is sort of a more consistent album than whats the story but without the hits this band is useless to me
I love when a band sounds this confident and fully-formed on a debut album. While it’s not my favorite Oasis record, it’s easy to see why it became such a bit hit and quickly rocketed them to the towering heights they reached.
What's the Story Morning Glory is better
Not bad, but most of the songs sound exactly the same. After a while, it sounds like a wall of sound. The last song is actually my favorite — it almost redeemed the rating to a 4, but the album as a whole is just a 3 for me.
It's enjoyable, still mid.
I thought it was ok.
I didn’t realize till now that I’ve never heard this whole album. Weird, considering I was there in the 90s, listening to tons of British bands… Anyway, I guess it sounds like I expected it would. It’s fine, but I still don’t get it.
this album was fine. it’s not really bad by any means. i was pleasantly surprised with how much i like certain songs, particularly bring it on down and supersonic. but, there’s simply just so many albums i would choose to listen to over this one any day. a few points are also deducted for the vocals; it’s not my style at all and takes away from my listening experience.
Not sure why this album doesn’t do more for me. It is widely acclaimed. The band has another album I rather enjoyed. The genre(s) and musical influences check a lot of boxes for me. But, I just can’t make myself love it. This maybe it’s because there is a sameness to the songs. Or, because Liam Gallagher’s exaggerated vocals sound too much like a misplaced John Lydon? Anyway, enjoy the album (like the rest of the world) and I’ll be over here if you need me….
already listened to it. not big on oasis but appreciate what this album is doing and why people like it
Would probably have given this a strong 4, but I didn’t get a chance to listen to it on the day. Next album in my list was The Holy Bible, my favourite album ever, and released on the same day as this in 1994. So, by (a possibly unfair) comparison, it gets a 3.
Decent. Nothing exceptional in my opinion.
It does its job of being catchy but doesn’t offer much after that.
Didn't hate it but didn't like it much either.
hmm, not really up my alley...listened to the first track four times trying to concentrate on the music and helplessly failed all four attempts.
Meh, some pretty good, catchy stuff interspersed with some stuff that sounds mailed in.
I listened at work and maybe that was my first mistake because it kinda became background noise pretty quickly. I mostly listen to rock and rock-adjacent music so it didn’t particularly stand out either way. Not unwilling to give it another try or another album though.
Great!
Lovely. I like the album as a whole. Most impressive is
Always avoided this band. But this album actually ain’t bad.
I enjoyed Live Forever, and Supersonic but in general I feel like Oasis is incredibly repetitive. I feel like all songs could be cut in half. I do appreciate their musicality in general. It also seems very much a product of its time. In general I like the starts of all the songs on this album, up until the singer starts.
pretty strong for what would be Oasis.
It’s good. Just not great. I do not get all of the hype over this band.
Good full pop songs, the longer tunes aren't too much
Hadn’t listened to this before but I thought I’d like this a lot since Supersonic is my favorite Oasis song. The rest of the album didn’t stick with me as much though.
Much more boring than when I was 12
Straight forward Rock N Roll. I like the hits and a few other tracks, but there’s a few skips for me.
I like it better than their other record on the list. Still don't understand the hype. Very basic. Not innovative in any way. Good but not great. Favorite song: bring it on down
Mi aspettavo qualcosa di più definito, pun intended.
I have never been a fan of Oasis so haven't listened to them before but I can see why people like them. Sounds a bit dated, very much a 90s sound Supersonic is a pretty good song tho Dig the guitar in Bring it on Down
2,5 er definately not mikill oasis fan en seinasta lagið var gott ætla núna á pubbin og fá mér einn kaldann með strákunum
Skárra en ég hélt það myndi vera, var með smá fordóma tíhí
Having already listened to What’s The Story Morning Glory, this feels a bit heavier, a bit of a different feel from the more lush feeling of that album. Still enjoyed it.
Not their best. Not shite. Somewhere in the middle is where this one rests. Not one bad track, but none very few stand out and none of them are really bangers. Inoffensive, but blends in too well. Their next outing would do better. 3/5
I hate his voice so much. Here's another entry for the big British book of smiles
I've barely listened to this one up until now compared to Whats the Story Morning Glory, and I think I might prefer this one. And I guess T-Rex was okay with them straight ripping Get It On?
I like the singles. But the whole album in the background sounds like a continua repetitive song
Few good songs, kind of mellowed out towards the end. I've always said this was a good record, but I can't help but feel that it's a bit repetitive and isn't far off the mark from butt rock in some ways.
Not their best, but truly an icon of the 90s. Slide Away and Live Forever probably earn a star each
oh look, it's the oasis album that has the mid-tier singles. oasis is pretty much the brand name version of 90s britpop to me, but boy do they sure do have a lot of filler songs, both on this album and in general. there's not much on here to write home about but it's still the quintessential britpop sound i guess. i'd give this 3.5 stars but eh. also those gallagher bros are something else. favorites: rock 'n' roll star, live forever, supersonic
it’s a good album, but i’ll never understand the rave reviews
5,5 te veel lawaai daarom heb ik ook niet helemaal geluisterd maar laatste nummer heeft het naar een voldoende getrokken
Meh
Faded in to the background.
Ну так, норм рокешник, средненько, в смысле, что не цепляет
A nice first album (to my knowledge) for an iconic rock band. All the pieces are here for what they eventually go on to do. Pop Brit Rock music, with great hooks, vocals, guitars. I don’t know if there’s a standout track here per say, but it all works as an excellent debut album.
I had higher expectations for this and it was just fine
I’m not sure when I last listened all the way through this one (if ever). I usually stick to a handful of songs I know and love. And after listening, I know why I stick with those. The gap between the four songs I love (rock and roll star, live forever, supersonic, and slide away) and the rest is large.
I totally didn't realise how every song could be shortened by about 2 minutes with the drawn out ends.
decent
Again do we need more than one Oasis album? what's he difference between this and WTSMG. Same whiney vocals etc. and the songs aren't as good either.
This is a pretty average album, not bad but nothing outstanding either and it's because it has nothing extraordinary, or new. It's a mix of Beatlesque and Stones-like songs. I can see why it got so famous in 1994 in the UK, though. Still, Morning Glory is the better album and the rest of their catalogue is just forgettable.
原来是Debut。比上一张的Iggy Pop好一些,但也没有到喜欢的程度。听的时候想起了Skip Skip Ben Ben,感觉是有受到过粥的噪音影响。不过我实在是不想再硬着头皮听老白男摇滚了…
Ah, never been a fan of the brothers, average only.
Solid 90’s alt rock
It's aight
Eh. I feel like if this was nostalgic for me I’d like it but it’s not nostalgic so it was just fine
