1001 Albums Summary

Like a wave, starts strongly, dips, comes back up, then ends back in the dip. Some tracks are too much, over played and a little onanistic.

I feel bad even thinking this, but I really didn't enjoy most of the tracks on here. I appreciate that the Beach Boys are revered and loved, but this was too lightweight for me.

Feels like an album in a world of playlists. Only slight criticism is that it may be a bit too long. How this is 15 years old is baffling.

I was ready to hate this. Not an artist I've ever heard of before, and I'd have judged this book by its cover and not picked it up. His album is incredible.

I really thought I'd enjoy this... I was wrong. Too much going on, a musical version of my ADHD before medication. Try as I might, I just couldn't finish.

Some decent tracks but didn't grab me

Solid, couple of bangers, great production. I'd forgotten how good green day are. (My god to I hate wake me up when September ends though).

It was an ok listen, I mostly got on with other things with it in the background. Didn't grab me, but I didn't dislike it.

Dull, monotone. Not for me

Real surprise, both that this is Jeff Buckley's dad, and that there are some absolutely brilliant songs on this album, sitting next to so proper 1960s fillers. Pleasant street is my favourite track, but also loved I never asked to be your mountain and Phantasmagoria in two. Albums like this are why I wanted to do this process.

It's ok as background. Very consistent sound, which makes it a bit boring for me, I'm sure lots have sampled the tracks in there.

Didn't realise there was an elliott smith record in the list, but I'm very pleased that there is. A tortured soul who channeled his despair. Makes me sad, but sometimes that's welcome.

I can't say it's rubbish, because I'm no musician, but I hate the arrangement, the singing, the lyrics, barely a redeemable feature. I absolutely love Weller as a solo artist, and adore the Jam, but this is not for me.

Liam and Noel are both their own flavour of Bellend, but as much as it pains me, this is a masterpiece. The closest they ever got to being the Beatles (imo) and an album that changed the course of British music.

This makes me feel full, in the same way a hearty meal does. Satisfying, familiar, yet exciting at the same time. There isn't a low point in the whole album for me, nowhere that I switched off.

Staggeringly good album. I love the Kinks anyway but this is head and shoulders above anything they'd done to this point.

If there's one thing that will prevent me from completing this list it's the volume of talking heads records punctuating it like badly used apostrophe(')s. That being said, this is the most (only) listenable of theirs I've heard so far. A band and record I should like, but just don't/can't; lyrically it's just too poorly written.

Almost impossibly dull and monotone

This was the inspiration for a genre... A genre that I hate almost in it's entirety, so it's no surprise that this was lost on me, no nuance, no subtlety. Repetitive and draining; I couldn't wait for it for end.

This reminds me of music that's made to be in a TV show, by the band from the local school. Like high school musical and school of rock got their scripts mixed up in the hall. Not awful if it's a room away and you can just hear the bass and the top notes, or if you're doing something else while it's on and can't quite hear it. The second you tune in... Bad. And whatever bad is in Norwegian.

I have no idea how this album is over 30 years old. I've always had pull towards her as an artist, there's something so enchanted about the sound, it doesn't sound like anybody else, but in a good way.

The band are incredible, obviously Ella Fitzgerald is incredible, but I don't know how to listen to this. Am I supposed to do it in one stint? I don't have that kind of stamina. Am I supposed to listen one record at a time? If so, pick one. It feels like the author got tired or choosing and just threw this at the book without any thought.

I have no idea why 15 year old me bought and loved this album so much, it's was SO out of kilter with what I'd normally listen to, but I did, and I've loved it since. Extra 2 stars for the left-eye rap

Full disclosure, I love old Radiohead. This is a brilliant album, but it did make me go and listen to Pablo Honey, which in my opinion is better.

This isn't my era, nor a genre I enjoy but what a record this is. Can't help but admire Holly Johnson, full of rage, a forthright, angry, political, gay man in a time when it was rarely done. Top lad.
