Reviews (page 12 of 13)

Average sounding rap/hip hop from the early 90's. Long album I had on while working. nothing exciting or annoying. 2/5

not for me

OK. 2/5

I was pleasantly surprised. This isn't my favorite genre, but I didn't hate listening to it.

Coolio

Another album to mark off the hip-hop gauntlet. With this behind me, I'll have listened to eleven of the top twenty hip-hop albums. I've never in a million years heard of A Tribe Called Quest, though I'm aware that their second album is the highest-rated hip-hop album on this site, so I might just raise my expectations a little. Any album which trumps the insane hype surrounding The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and To Pimp a Butterfly must be pretty good. Yeah, it's alright. I enjoy this kind of hip-hop sound, and the lyrical flow is decent. My only problem is that's all this is. Samey instrumentals, samey vocal performances, all stretched out to make for an album which is over an hour. While I do enjoy this general musical style, I also can't deny that these kinds of subdued, bassy hip-hop instrumentals are pretty creatively restrictive. "Pubic Enemy" is alright. I like the quirky instrument during the chorus, and the jittery percussion is pretty cool, too. "Bonita Applebum" has some pretty great samples, and I enjoy the change in vocalist. "Rhythm" has a pretty cool sound - I especially like the electronic ambience in the background. It gives the song a great, spacy atmosphere. Book time. "hip-hop's funkiest philosophers". "...marked the birth of the alt-rap scene". Influential among hip-hop musicians. Wasn't received well by critics or audiences at the time, but has since been reappraised as a classic. Yeah, this seems to be a decent pick. Can't fault it.

Rap isn't one of my favourite genres of music, and this album didn't do much for me. There were parts I liked, such as the little fragment that sorta repeats itself throughout the album, but some of the songs felt a bit disconnected structurally, and some of the samples didn't seem to make sense in their respective songs. It's not for me, though I can understand why many people like it.

yeaaa, maybe i can stomach this as background music in a fashion store. but to listen through this, i guess there's not enough hip in me.

Decent old school hip hop but the songs were very redundant which was quite annoying

Respect for the lo-fi shimmer and sample sorcery way ahead of its time. Occasionally brilliant, but that old-school rap vibe just doesn't hit for me.

Wow, this just keeps going

i feel like i should change my rating criteria. i'd never heard this and probably won't listen to it ever again front to back. but it was good while it was there.

I appreciate their place in the industry… but I just don’t like their music. And this album was L O N G

No sure why multiple ATCQ albums are on this list. But I guess they wanted to throw their debut album on here also, for some reason. It's a lengthy album, and I counted at least 10 different tracks that use sampling from other songs/artists. Certainly a common thing these days, especially in rap/hip-hop, but takes a lot of originality away, if you ask me.

⭐️⭐️ 1001 Albums- # 75 People’s instinctive what now?! While the beats kick it, the repetitious nature of reminding the listener of who’s on the mic “Q-Tip ya’ll!” is off-putting to say the least. 🎧 Classic Track: I Left My Wallet in El Sugundo 🚫 Skip Tracks: Can I Kick It? (among other I’ll advised samples) Tribe Called Quest released their debut album, People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm, a record that would quietly, but profoundly, reshape the soundscape of hip-hop. Emerging from the Native Tongues collective—a movement rooted in Afrocentrism, artistic experimentation, and positivity—this album stood in stark contrast to the aggressive, politically charged, or party-centric styles that dominated the rap charts in the late 1980s. At a time when artists like Public Enemy and N.W.A. were rightfully commanding attention with confrontational narratives, A Tribe Called Quest chose a different path: one of introspection, humor, warmth, and musical sophistication. The result was a genre-defying debut that, while initially met with modest acclaim, has since been recognized as one of the foundational texts of alternative hip-hop. 🖼️ Album Artwork: Props for not posing as a self portrait for Q-Tip! While I appreciate the legacy the album has paved within hip hop circles, when it comes off the backs of original artists creativity within those respective styles through the use of sampling (jazz, funk rock), well that’s where they lost me.

Why do people put baby crying noises on their songs? It's wank. A lot of this is just them saying their names. Stop introducing each other. This album is cool and I can see why people like it but at times it's either boring or annoying. I get why this is good and why people like it but to me it's grating. Even the songs I like on it are vaguely annoying.

Another Hip-Hop album, supposedly one of the greatest albums of the 1990s? Music-wise it's a lot better than most Hip-Hop albums, with some interesting samples, but ultimately it's still boring.

Not the best tribe album mid

East Coast HipHop with funky, repetitive beats and the very casual and sometimes very basic lyrics, which feels too long, and too repetitive.

RnB, Rap -> 2

Not for me. Hip hop generally doesn't interest me.

Not my music.

There's some nice elements on this album, but it's quite simply too long for what it is. The tracks sound too similar and if you'd played them for me one at a time spread out I might have enjoyed them more. But tightly packed like this it becomes too much and very clear how same-y the tracks sound and none of them ends up standing out Standouts Luck of Lucien 2/5

Listenable. Majoring in can you dig it. Aside from that nothing really stood out but nothing offensive either.

Not too bad. There’s something there.

Promising reviews for this - to me - unknown band. Comments of "not denigrating of women" immediately opened up my ears. Loved the funky Luck of Lucien. Overall though, not added to my Liked Songs

2 1/2. Es tut mir leid, ich runde ab.

I recognize the artistry and contribution to Hip Hop, and the rhyming was quite impressive. However, this just isn't my cup of tea, personally, and none of the songs really grabbed me.

I always knew I wasn’t in to hip hop, but this challenge has definitely confirmed that I’m not! I’m not saying this album is bad as it’s a lot better than some of the albums I’ve been given so far. But it does all sound the same. The samples are well utilised, such as the use of Lou Reed’s ‘Walk On The…’, however I would much rather listen to the original song.

I’m not a fan. I watched the first Pink Panther movie recently and was put off by the obvious set pieces in about of the gags - Peter sellers would get to his mark and then wait for the gag to happen. This album feels like that to me - the diction is too clear, the rhythm unchanging, even the whole French references too repetitive; it feels too set, without the (I know it’s artifice, but good rap feels too set me like it was just spirit and captured raw) apparent spontaneity.

I did not enjoy this as much as I did Low End Theory.

Ålreit

Not my cup of tea. Very rap voices here or hip hop

Not their best work.

Man I wish I liked this more. I think maybe I just don't vibe with early 90s rap.

This was fine as background music. I liked the relaxed vibe, but it does go on for far too long. Not especially attention-grabbing either

Demasiado añejo el sonido para su época. Rapeaban sobre pelotudeces, no me gustó. Nota: 2.1

Not for me

Nooooo. Ya cansa esa musiquita medcolanza de todo. No me adhiero en absoluto.

The music is cool and its not hard to listen to, but it is just not my jive.

Alright beats, but mostly bored with the album and wanted it to be done much sooner. Maybe I wasn't in that right mindset, or just wasn't for me, but this listen was meh.

I know this is a classic and all but it's just too repetitive and laid back for me. Sometimes a good sample will wake me up, but that'a about it. Out of the first three albums this is the one I like the least.

Några man hört innan, några nya bra

I remember this as being better than it actually is. Middling but not bad. 2.5 stars

The first song feels like children rhymes and each verse is separate from the last. The child noises in the start were a bit creepy. Footprints was pretty good but that was about all I liked.

Same. Fine but not for me.

Corny rhythms. The best song here - Can You Kick It? - derives all its power from the Lou Reed sample.

Ok so I don't actively hate this like most hip hop. I still don't really like it and would never choose to listen to it but I'm not miserable sitting here cringing at the whole thing like normal. I mean the late 80s/early 90s hip hop is way different than what's come out in the last 20-25 years even. It's more innocent and innocuous. There's not really much else to say about this one, it just kind of is. Though it's one of the least unbearable hip hop records I've heard, I was still ready for it to be done about 15 minutes in. 2/5

Not my jam but oo

Previously reviewed The Low End Theory, which is supposed to be their best...it didn't do a lot for me and I gave it a 3. I don't think they needed more than one album on the 1001 since the style is pretty much the same, but this one isn't as good (can't believe Can I Kick It was a hit...I thought it was pretty lame). The baby crying at the start of the album was a bit annoying, and then it settles into the same type of jazz rap we hear (better) on The Low End Theory. Also, while I can appreciate the lack of gangsta lyrics and misogyny, the lyrics are a little on the boring side and occasionally kinda cringe (e.g., Pubic Enemy - which is a shame because the song is a pretty cool groove). I can't say I actively disliked the album, it just didn't do much of anything for me. Songs I kind of liked: Footprints, Youthful Expression, Go Ahead in the Rain.

Man some of these songs are looong. Haven’t heard much like this before though. Refreshing perspective. Some unique sounds and beats, and funky samples. Found it to be monotonous at times, and the lyrics didn’t always make sense/rhymes were a bit odd lol.

I was about to complain about excessive rap hip hop which I have been served up recently leading to a trail of 1 stars. But this one surprised me. Mainly due to the use of samples which I have to admit were perfectly done and were very effective. Sometimes with humorous results. Not enough though to drag this type of music beyond 2 stars. But this is a good achievement given my loathing of this stuff. 2/5 22/2/25

I just don’t get A Tribe Called Quest. I heard all of their stuff, I know it’s highly acclaimed, I don’t get it. Sounds like the superbowl shuffle.

More meaningful than NWA but not really something you have to hear before you die

I've heard worse hip hop

Hip hop, in general, is more difficult for me to get in to. I liked Tribe okay. It's definitely better than the crap I hear blared at intersections, and the absence of a constant barrage of obscenities was nice (oh lord, I'm getting old). Ham and Eggs was great though. Halfway through the track I realized they were giving me healthy dietary advice.

Not really bad for hip hop. Some actual thought went into it.

It's alright, very simplistic but I appreciate it.

Maybe it was ground breaking in 1990 but the 4/4 rap on beat sounds so generic now. Lyrically it was ok. Definitely felt very long as a full album.

Fun early hip hop

Hip hop is at its best with east coast boom bap, and ATCQ are absolutely icons and pioneers of this style. There is just little to hang onto here. The timeless moments in songs like can I kick it are few and far between. 2/5

They have great taste in music samples, but like all hip hop albums it just makes me want to listen to music of the original artists instead of paying any attention to these mutant forms of them. The samples just serve to remind that there is better ACTUAL music out there. Not among my favorite albums of 1990, much less of all time. Probably will not revisit. Did not add any of the tracks to a playlist.

Comically simplistic. Extremely basic beats, extremely basic lines, extremely basic samples. It felt like a sixth form project on hip-hop or something.

Just not my kind of music unfortunately. Surely better than many others I've listened here, so I'll give it a +1, but still just annoying to me.. I'm pretty sure I'll never feel the need to listen to this again

I liked it less than expected

I’ve heard worse and much better. Kinda smooth jazz level hip hop, not in your face hip hop.

Some nice samples but over all it´s just Hip-Hop🤷‍♂️

I have mixed feelings about this one. Some of the songs sound quite messy and I don't like the beat nor the flow. Other songs flow well and have great composition

Flojo, no me interesa.

Do you like r&b music? If you do then this album is for you. I like can you kick it it has a good lyrics and great beat. The guy singing it has a good voice. The other songs are decent. I would recommend this album just because of can you kick it.

Alright nothing standing out but Qtip and a couple of well known songs

I don’t quite know what to think. Interesting. Distracting. Black eyed peas? Ultimately I’m not having much interest to listen to it again.

I’m afraid I just got quite bored with this. Didn’t really do anything for me.

This is an album that I was surprised about. I’ve heard a lot about A Tribe Called Quest over the years, but I never really took the time to listen to them. What was surprising to me was how awful a lot of the lyrics were. “I left My Wallet in El Segundo” is a prime example of this. Incredibly lazy and super predictable rhymes, a boring story that seems to go absolutely nowhere, I just genuinely hope I never have to sit through it again. There are a lot of positives on this album, instrumentally it’s fantastic. Once you get passed the obnoxious and annoying baby crying, “Push it Along” kicks off with a wicked break beat and a properly groovy bassline. There’s a lot of really good musicality throughout. Unfortunately the rapping in this album really missed the mark for me. 2 stars.

I guess I was not in the mood for this kind of music 3/10

Decent milk

Groupe inconnu. =>2/5

An interesting album but not my preferred style of music.

Did not enjoy, every track rolls into one 3/10

First listen Saved 5/14

Not great didn't really enjoy

Not my cup of tea

Not for me

I'd just rather hear the songs that they sampled in their original form. I didn't hate this album, but there was nothing at all that I liked. 700 albums into the 1001 and hip-hop is still unable to inspire me.

I can kick it.

p651. 1990. 2 stars. Rap/hip-hop, so wrong audience. Well done of its kind but... meh.

Just not my kind of music

meh. Had 1 good song. not my cup of tea

I liked "can I kick it?" , the rest is not really for me

Repetitive rhythm with juvenile lyrics. Sounds like a middle school poetry assignment done the night before due date.

153/1001

Good I guess. For hiphop. Mediocre but full of itself.

It’s probably a crime to say this because of how influential these guys are, but it was boring. I swear at one point a dude was rapping about buying a sandwich.

Definitely a very mid album, nothing interesting happened. I started listening to this at 7am on a Monday and the first song was a baby crying, which was very annoying, so that was already a bad start. Then the people were just talking about stuff but I guess it was decent for a background listen if you are not really paying too much attention.

Doesn’t do it for me, sounds too dated

I really cannot feel anything listening to the heroes of conscious hip hop. It‘s so boring that I‘d rather listen to some white noise like a distant vacuume cleaner.

The beats were the highlight here and I love Q-Tips flow. The improv stuff where they keep the tape rolling doesn’t yield much. Ultimately very cool for the year.

1 hours 18 mins seemed a little self-indulgent. Some good rhythms.

Liked a few things - low key, laid back mood, smooth delivery But the repetition got old fast. I never want to hear the sentence ‘I left my wallet in el segundo” or the name “Bonita applebum” again.

Is there such a genre as ‘dinner party hip-hop’?

Can I Kick It is awesome, but the rest of the album just doesn’t feed into my personal tastes no matter how much I try.

Not my jam

I get it. I don't like it. Way too long. Boring. Just not for me. 2 stars cause it isn't awful and Can I Kick It is good.

Ugh whatever it was okay.

Just not my style of rap

While I appreciate this album and would agree it’s good, there is a special spot in my heart for their final 2016 album, which was a great complement to this first album.

This released in 1990, but it feels like rap from the 1980s

Alternative hip hop, East Coast hip hopprogressive rap, jazz rap. Rollito.

Not my taste

Can see the early seminal influences on hip-hopped this this album had. Not sure I really click with this album but there are a couple good songs specifically footsteps and cool like that

Alternative hip hop, East Coast hip hopprogressive rap, jazz rap. Rollito.

I'm just not a fan. Cool grooves though, high 2.

Not for me.

Album 360 of 1001 A Tribe Called Quest - People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm Rating : 2 / 5 Too much sampling for my taste. Had some positive moments. Came across as somewhat elementary.

I am a bit undecided about this album. The blend of hip-hop and jazzy elements is great. Use of samples remains in reasonable boundaries. Sounds nicely laid-back. But in parts it's annoyingly repetitive.

And once again hip-hop. It sounded reasonably cool. The best thing I can say about it is that it wasn't quite as annoying as many other hip-hop albums I've heard from this list. It's just not my kind of music. 2/5

Alternative hip hop, East Coast hip hopprogressive rap, jazz rap. Rollito.

2.5/5 - boring hooks and corny lyrics but fun production, enjoyed Push It Along and Can I Kick it?

I just didn't feel this one.

Not as much of a bop as I remembered ATCQ being.

I listened. It was fine.

I almost liked 1 or 2 of these, almost. I’d give it a 2.5 if I could.

The only way to make this album enjoyable is to play a game I call “Which better song is this sampling?” Slapping someone else’s music over your bad poetry doesn’t make you a musician.

So this is what Meatshake was making fun of 🤓

Overall, it's average for me. My taste does not lean into rap/hip-hop. I can acknowledge that this album was revolutionary, but it's not for me. Having said that, I enjoyed some tracks more than I though I would. Seeing which tracks I enjoyed, I can tell that for me, lyrics are essential in music enjoyment, as the ones I picked are the ones with the most vivid lyrics. Favorite songs: I Left My Wallet in El Segundo - the begging part nicely scratches my ADHD brain, a little repetetive, but nice sampling Ham 'N' Eggs - I don't eat no ham 'n' eggs 'cause they're high in cholesterol, cute Almost but not quite there songs: After Hours - okay, for some reason there are frog ribbits in some parts Can I Kick It? - okay, a bit too repetetive to relisten Description of a Fool - nice groove, funky ending Least favorite songs: But is she really fly, or is she a guy? hmmm - "Luck of Lucien" Pubic Enemy - the rhythm in this song made me sick and anxious Rhythm (Devoted to the Art of Moving Butts) - could not finish the song, I hated the sample of a woman/child/guy? going ahh... Mr. Muhammad - again, I hate the sample going aiyah, could barely get to the end of the song Bonita Applebum - a 4 min song about a nice butt, 1/5

Es wird nicht besser.... :(

Fair, but respect!

I wasn't a huge fan of Low End Theory and this was more of the same. I like Can I Kick It? but that's about it.

Not a fan of old school rap. Cheesy writing and ok production.

Some highlights, but not my thing overall. Kept thinking about the Donald Glover bit about older rap being "I went to the hat store/ and I bought a hat!"

First and Kick it are good, unfortunately this album has 17 songs

not for me.

this is so boring pubic enemy is so stupid so repetitive read the lyrics for joyful expression its so fucking stupid. make me wanna holler also make me wanna listen to marvin gaye instead. inner city blues added to queue and skip. aah. do do doo do dooo im so incredibly depressed and watch superstore and sleep a lot lol

Never get into this kind of hip hop

Some good samples. Some not used well at all. Rapping a bit above average. Still not my genre

This is not my style or taste. Too long and too self indulgent.

Better than the other atcq

Not my thing + songs are too long

Overall - 4/10 1. Push it Along - 5/10 2. Luck of Lucien - 4/10 3. After Hours - 4/10 4. Footprints - 5/10 5. I Left My Wallet in El Segundo - 4/10 6. Pubic Enemy - 4/10 7. Bonita Applebum - 4/10 8. Can I Kick It? - 4/10 9. Youthful Expression - 5/10 10. Rhythm - 4/10 11. Mr. Muhammad - 4/10 12. Ham 'n' Eggs - 6/10 13. Go Ahead in the Rain - 4/10 14. Description of a Fool - 4/10

Some cool lyrics, a little more melodic, interesting other sounds

This listen was a bit more of what I was concerned about when reviewing an older hip-hop record. Just a bit too close to the "hip, hop, a hip hip hop" sound of early early rap that I just don't enjoy even if it does come from the early emerging sounds of a new genre. That being said, I'm happy I can say I've listened to this record, even if it felt like I was visiting a museum.

The chillest hip hop. It's good, but not for me.

Sort of okay!

Not really my style

Ziemlicher old-school Rap, also leider so gar nicht meins.

This did not get better the second time.

Not a fan of hip hop but I can see how this album was influential on hip hop music today Only song I liked was I Left My Wallet in El Segundo

Lots of good sampling and scratching on these laid back tracks with clear lyrics. Good sound and surprisingly relaxing! Though not my thing, so I'll rate it at 2

I could see people thinking this is good but it really wasn't my style

Not something I’ll seek to revisit. Lots of repeated refrains and beats. Not well-recorded. 2/5

Can I Kick It is a great tune, shame about the rest. There's about 20-30 seconds of good music per song, trhe rest being loops and boring vocals.

Alternative hip hop, East Coast hip hopprogressive rap, jazz rap. Rollito.

Didn't like this much. Felt a little cheesy.

I just don't like Q-Tip's voice. Its a little too much like someone singing with a cold and just grates on me. I can't get past that.

Some interesting sampling. Struggled to rate this any higher overall.

This album was just too long, and too repetitive. Every single song they took one line for about 30 seconds and those were the only words they knew and it got really old really fast. If it had been at all interesting it still would have been too long of an album- I don’t need over an hour of this. The only reason I’m not giving this album a 1 is because I understand how this album could be influential and there is (some) talent, but definitely not my thing.

Schon nice beats aber haut mich net vom hocker

Liian pitkä mut kivan positiivinen

Rehti yritys. Kiinnostaviakin biittejä alkaa löytyä, kun pääsee käyntiin.

Sounds a bit too messy for me

Not arsed mate

I Left My Wallet in El Segundo'

I’m not really feeling this. Make mine Arrested Development. Too much frilly things. Just not my thing.

It’s become trendy to say you like Tribe, damn liberals!! I’ve only listened to singles before, never a full album, so I’m curious to get the full experience. So far, I like the sound. Well, I finally forced myself to finish this bad boy. The production was akin to a SoundCloud rapper at times. It was interesting enough for a 2.5, but I wouldn’t rate it higher than that. I’m tired of these one-track albums. Would this album really be here without Can I Kick It?

Rennon letkee tyyli. Miellyttävä, mut ei erikoinen

-Its just that really early rap flow for the whole album. Nothing crazy exciting to latch onto. -Some of the beats are fun but they aren't enough to really make it worth it with the relatively plain flow. -Not UNpleasant but there just isn't that much that I find interesting

One of the more listenable albums of the genre. Alas, I still don't like this genre.

Dull nerd rap, interesting afro-inspired lyrics, annoying sampling technique, dull lollopy groove. Easy to forget it's on but slight relief when it isn't

Not my favourite piece of music. Few songs that stand out, I really liked the flow of "Kick It" and pretty funny "Bonita Applebum", but otherwise the whole album went on without catching my attention. I think it might be partially down to the fact that in 90s this album was first ever using this style of hip hop, whereas now it's much more common and that's why it feels like nothing special. I don't want to rate it according to rap history, because I know nothing about that, so I'll just rate how I feel now, without context, about this album. And unfortunately, it's not a really positive feeling.

It’s okay, but I find their music to be too nice for my taste.

Really dull. A few good tracks that almost got it to a 3* but not quite enough

Too old school

Coolio

This album is full of some really great samples, but I found altogether uninspiring

Objectively not a bad album but just wasn't for me. The combination of funky, repetitive beats and the very casual and sometimes very basic lyrics and all that for an hour only aggregated me

Didn't really vibe with it, maybe a little too experimental for my taste. DNF

Not terrible, but not very memorable. Not a genre I enjoy massively, so I don’t expect I’ll listen to this one again.

Fine but not for me

Wasn't as bad as I feared it would be, but still not my thing. Quite a variety of sampled material. 2 stars.

Very cool start, but I'm worried that 70 minutes will be too long. Sadly, it's like a lot of hip-hop. Interesting start, then they repeat a beat while talking. Choruses can be good, but it's so repetitive.

Can I kick it? voelt bijna tijdsloos, maar de rest, hoewel niet slecht, valt daar toch wat tegen weg.

M’n pet stond hier niet naar.

the constituent parts are fun but the album itself is dull as hell. sounds like it was more fun to make than to listen to. De La Soul did it much better

It had some good rhythms and beats, but it is certainly not my style of music. I think the track 'Bonita Applebum' maybe my least favourite song I've heard in a while. Especially the remix with some unfun groans in there at the end.

Strong 2, liked it for the first quarter, then started getting a bit repetitive

Seemed like all the components were there but it just didn't kick on and hold at an interesting rhythm

This one sounds a lot more intelligent and way less annoying than most rap albums I've heard. Giving this one 2.5 stars. Rounded down because I still didn't want to listen to more than half the album.

Difficult to rate as so far from my usual listening, I couldn't say if good for it's genre or not, it's not for me, but I didn't hate it

the intro is weird... baby crying? Ehh it's alright. Nothing special, rhymes kinda basic

Good one. Found some familiar-sounding samples, and used whosampled.com a few times.

Not very amazing.

A chore to get through. Felt generous and gave it 2* because it's got that early 90s vibe.

Heavy 80's rap vocals and beat

Man chats over boring beats. Some beats were fun. Man was boring always

Interesting songs….wasn’t a fan

Listened to this on a road trip. Glad it wasn’t an album of more complexity because not the best environment to listen to an album properly. I’ve an idea what this group is about already but no amount of listens will make this appeal to me. I get the appeal to hip hop listeners and get why people enjoy it. Can’t give this more than a 2. Not for me, doesn’t hurt my ears

I liked it more than I thought I would, but not for me.

2/5 Not my kinda music.

Didn't do it for me...

Tough one. Didn't dislike it but don't think I'd listen to it again so...

groovy

Ni tan peor como otros

No pues la neta no conectó, si a caso una rolilla.

Not really my thing.

I give up if this sort of thing can make it into "must hear". Why must I. Who says. More like Tripe than Tribe. Music Wankers

Its very early nineties rap. Not really my thing to be honest. I tried a couple of the tracks and really didn't want to persevere. 1/5

mmm just no

It isn’t rap if you just rhyme some words and talk monotone all the was through a beat. Clearly a talentless bunch of people with the only redeeming feature being the small sections of sampling they have included from other more talented artists

I’m sure some people love this, but i would not voluntarily listen to this again.

Nothing memorable

To be fair, I’m not a fan of Hip Hop or Rap, so this isn’t an album I can really rate impartially. Doesn’t do anything for me.

I found this album to be repetitive and boring. “Ham ‘n’ Eggs” listing the foods they like to eat was painful. And I wanted them to move it along on “Move it Along” - especially when they started introducing the band after six minutes. “Go Ahead in the Rain” was the best of the bunch for me, but I mainly wanted them to just continue to play the songs they were sampling - All You Need Is Love, Sir Duke, Walk on the Wild Side.

Meh at best

horrível, nem consegui terminar

i did not like it

Not my cup of tea- I’m sure in someone else’s ears this is a master piece but nah. It seems kind of experimental, I like that it’s rap over drums but it gets a little repetitive. I can’t even focus on what they’re saying bc all my attention is on the boring beats in the background😭 call me acoustic idc

No, no, no!!!

Not for me

Very literal redeeming value here

Meh, hip hop

0.9/5 I'm not a fan of rap or hip hop so I didn't like this. They had some cool rhymes and samples but overall nothing that I would ever want to come back too.

Kylläpä nyt puskee samanlaista sontaa joka tuutista.

Really don't like this genre.

Not my taste

I’d say a 1.5

I like Can I kick it? but didn’t much care for the other 13 inferior versions of Can I kick it? .. and to be honest the bit I liked most about Can I kick it? was the Lou Reed bit

Såå tråkigt...

Not for me. I don't really like the sing songy rap style.

I’m sure it’s great but not for me

When the indoctrination centers, er, schools are not getting the job done... enter the alternatives... i can think of no other reason for the entire genre of so called "rap" "music"... Eminem, NWA, Snoop, etc use hyperbole, and humor... so i would probably be more lenient toward them... but... zero stars.

Strange Intros, slow rap 1/5

I just can't stand these rhymes, good bars could justify shitty rhyming for me, but there were none. This period of hip-hop is not interesting in any way, not lyrically, not musically. Just bad

I don't think hip hop is for me

American tasty for shit

more hip-hop - it's just not my scene man

Nice jazz tunes that are ground down to continuous disappointments when they end, and a man starts talking rhythmically to it.

rap garbage

Rubbish. Musically, lyrically, extremely boring.

Dumb that a greatest hits is on here

Started surprisingly good. For a short time I was thinking that maybe not all rap albums were crap. Didn't last long as it soon became as annoying and irritating as all other rap music. Then there were the samples of other songs, which just served to remind you that here is far better music out there than this crap.

A couple of big tunes from my youth which were played incessantly on the radio. But the problem is they weren't in my orbit of musical tastes. The rest of the album wasn't good enough to pique my interest either.

Not my style

Not something that I listen to. Can understand how people might find this appealing. But not for me.

Not my style. 1 song

Fav: Mr. Muhammed Least Fav: Ham 'N' Eggs

Favorite: Bonita Applebum Least Favorite: Footprints

The baby intro was weird to start with at 7am on a friday. The first song is nearly 8mins long, I ended up giving up half way through the song and didn't listen to the rest of the album.

This music sucks. Not just Tribe Called Quest. The whole genre.

No, do definitely not like it. There are some nice samples here, which are used in a good way. But still, no, not for me.

Horrible.

Can I kick it? No you can't.

Not my taste at all

First impression... Music reminds me of GTA. This album is not for me.

See previous hiphop reviews

Favorites: Just not my thing.

Not my thing at all.

not a fan of hiphop i wish they would stop putting these in my que

Two songs by Orchid I like, Epilogue of a car crash: The best part is around 2:30 in the song when they combine the brooding first part and the heavy second. T120: It reminds me of a good version of 93696 by Liturgy (the transgender band) 4/5 for those 2 songs. I can't and or won't comment on orchid as a whole or a tribe called quest.

Not good sorry

Puf, puf
