This is a cool concept. I imagine that every person who went to this show brings it up in the most annoying way possible in every conversation.

Thom Yorke: "He copied my whole fucking flow! ... word for word! bar for bar!"
There's some goofy stuff on here but still solid
Don't care what anyone thinks about KoL but this album is so good
a little too emo honestly

An absolutely solid 34 minutes of zero filler. Didn't realize how many bangers were on this album.
This kid got the juice. Still not sure if a guy or girl.
Solid album. Don't remember enjoying it this much when I first listened
An absolute classic. Had to follow up with some Moonflower
I thought this album rocked more than it did before listening back. Didn't realize how much the Who sounded like the Beatles in their early days
Sounded a lot like Radiohead. Album closer is strong
Certified classic. Stephen Stills killing it on the bass. Couldn't listen to half of the album because of Spotify though.
LET"S FUCKIN GOOOOO. Gotta watch this movie. Do your thing goes so hard
Fantastic album. in my opinion better than Thriller
10/10
Great album. Full of bangers
Fine. Seemed a little too English
Never really listened to Christina Aguilera but this album is pretty solid
Good music but feels like one long song lol
Why is this album on this list? Joshua Tree is so much better, but if Joshua Tree is also on this list, that means there are two U2 albums which is far too many. I didn't check this but I have a sneaking suspicion that the Br*tish made this list
Never heard of this guy but it was a pretty solid album. Need to be in a specific mood for it though.
RIP Phife
We talkin' Aretha. We talkin' the mf queen of soul. RIP
Big ups to Ms. Lauryn Hill for not giving af about any of her fans
The gulf between the best and worst on this album is immense.
Not my cup of tea
Really like a 4.9/5 but I simply cannot say 5/5 based on voice
4/5 because if Kid A and OK Computer at 5/5 this has to be lower
Nile Rodgers giving heat
5/5 for Merry Clayton alone
This list is still a little too Br*tish for my liking but this album's not bad
I'd never go to bat for her vocals but god damn this album has some bangers.
Hell yeah brother
I have no way to prove this, but it's possible that Robert Plant has said the word "baby" more than any one else who has ever lived. 5/5 no notes
Classic Christmas bangers. Thank you, Phil
yee haw
Really wasn't feeling it today
I could see how this influenced music trends for the next 10 years but wasn't feeling it
a little too emo honestly
This is a cool concept. I imagine that every person who went to this show brings it up in the most annoying way possible in every conversation.
INXS did it first and better. Sounded pretty good though.
In a very unlikely turn of events, neil young was back on spotify 2 days after I got this
Fine but not really into it
It's good music but god damn jazz is hard to get through sometimes
I would almost say this album's a little long but still 5/5
Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of great British music, but this list definitely has a bias
Have you ever heard a song kick ass so hard, it makes you wonder how a song could kick so much ass? ...But at the same time still suck a little bit? A song that goes on so long that it's quite possibly the last song you will ever listen to before you expire. The kind of music that drives your girlfriend to the brink of insanity. Well my friend... that's prog rock. 5/5 no notes. fantastic album
I don't care if it's showtunes. I still love it
This honestly sounded like the preset buttons on a casio
Genuinely curious why this is here
Yes is really just prog Crosby, Stills & Nash. 5/5 no notes
I deeply respect Bob Dylan but man... some of his live stuff is hard to listen to
Yeah it's jazz
There's some goofy stuff on here but still solid
Giving this a 2 not because it's not good but because it feels like a hipster ass pick for this list
Don't care what anyone thinks about KoL but this album is so good
It was so short
Wilco is the definition of "fine"
Regina Spektor clears by a mile
I wish Ms. Bush the best of luck in her quest to kill god
Why is this 2 1/2 hours long
The people that call this a "hidden gem" just want to act like they're some kind of music reviewing gods. This is an average 80's album.
I love Jack White. I'll apologize to no one
Good but every song sounds the same
This is the crispest live recording I've ever heard. I don't know how they taped this but it sounds like James Brown is in my head.
Crazy that Bleach came out only 2 years after this
I think this is the most stereotypical 80's album in existence. If you asked AI to write an 80's album, it would just be this album
I don't care if he's a villain
Stellar A-side
this cat's really putting it down
ehh still jazz but it's got that one song that kind hits
Wow, what an inspiring and thoughtful album. I hope there is nothing sinister lurking just below the surface of this fine gentleman
Just another pretty typical mid-80's album
Having grown up as a middle-class white boy, this album strongly resonates with my lived experience
Weird edgelord pick
My mom knows the drummers mom
Is the author of this list a former Deep Purple member?
I would be okay if there weren't anymore Tom Waits albums on this list
Easy 5/5. One of my favorite records of all time
Eh, there's better music
Personally, I'm more of a dookie guy. But c'mon, it's american idiot. 5/5
Already know this one is getting a big fat 2
Thom Yorke: "He copied my whole fucking flow! ... word for word! bar for bar!"
I like Zappa but man that one is tough at times
I wasn't convinced at first. Ended up being pretty vibey
Almost didn't listen because it wasn't on spotify. Glad I did cause this was solid
Moby is a little insufferable as a person, but pretty solid album
Thought this was another trash British punk album that this list is rife with. It kinda was... but a little better than the others.
I don't think it's one of the best albums of all time but it has too many bangers to not be 5/5
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Rod the Mod, baby. hell yeah
I just think that every song doesn't need to be 6 minutes. It's good music but come on, I already heard that riff 30 times. Chill
I had zero concept of what kind of music Portishead makes
More of a 4.5/5
whatever
Hard to argue a 5/5 on this one
At first I wasn't feeling this cause I wasn't in the club. But then by the end I wanted to be in the club
happily surprised by this one
Wow, another unremarkable British alt/punk album. Incredible. I hope this list has a few dozen more albums that sound the exact same and are entirely forgettable.
Any Arcade Fire haters in here can fight me in hand to hand combat
Not even a huge fan of Nas, but hard to deny this album
hit... after hit... after hit... after, not songbird... after hit
Not the biggest indian music fan but come on... it's Shankar
I have to apologize for my 12 year old self for mocking Mr. Manson. I was unfamiliar with your game.
I've never really liked James Taylor that much but there was some good stuff in this album
Just because Pink Floyd made some great music, doesn't mean that ALL the music they made is great
Not even a huge Springsteen fan
This isn't out right bad... It just feels so uninspired. It sounds like every other late 80s/early 90s Brit alt rock albums that this list is rife with. I've gotten so many of these, I think I hit my breaking point. Also, 1994? This album sounds both behind and ahead of the times, in the worst ways. I like this line from Wikipedia: "In contrast to their debut album 'Suede', which exhibited the influences of David Bowie and the Smiths,[1] Dog Man Star exhibits a more varied aesthetic and draws from a wider range of influences." No it doesn't. It sounds like a cheap knock off of both the Smiths and Bowie. There is nothing special about this album and listening felt like a waste of an hour.
Not super into jazz, but this had my ass locked in the whole commute home. And loved that little easter egg of young Quincy Jones being mentioned
forgettable
I really don't think this album is as good as it's perceived in media
I don't get Britain's obsession with Damon Albarn
Yeah this was kinda cool I guess
Not my favorite Kinks
Yeah he kinda cooked with this one. I see the vision
Best album of all time? No way Very fun and from an extremely specific time in history? Absolutely.
This is my second Nick Cave album in 3 days and I gotta say, he's kinda nice with it
This shit slaps
All timer. Easy 5/5
I'm so glad the Bee Gee stopped trying to be the Beatles and became disco
This had some decent songs on it. But I really thought I would like it more than I did
God, Bono sucks so hard
Really nothing special
Can't find any fault with this one
Delightfully wacky. I think I'm a little Nick Cave'd out after my 3rd in the last month.
the white people go crazy for come on eileen
Really over all of this mid British albums
Am I supposed to act like this isn't one of the best albums of all time?
Actually can't believe this goes on for an hour... and that I continued to listen for an hour. Giving it two stars because I can appreciate a good bit.
An absolute all timer. Anything less than 5/5 is lame
This was great but should've been like 30 minutes shorter
Never really listened to Amy Winehouse outside of the hits but this is great
The Irish go crazy for this stuff. So do I
Please god, don't let this be another completely forgettable 80's British pop band.... Oh and the vocals on this one are terrible? Awesome, thanks.
Not a huge Willie Nelson fan. Good though
Never really heard of these guys outside of one song. Really enjoyed the overall vibe of this album
You know, I've just always had something against Bruce. Don't get me wrong, I think he's one of the best songwriters of his generation. Just never liked the guy. Maybe it's his voice? How much I heard his music as a child? Could just be the fact that he's from New Jersey. No clue, but could never really be team Springsteen. Kind of rubs me the wrong way that he's so talented. Seriously, all time songwriter and one of the best American musicians ever. Love Van Zandt's general demeanor though.
I waffled a lot on this one. It's not exactly my style by I do like some punk and hardcore. There's some alright stuff on this album. A lot of it just runs together. So I was going to give it 3 stars but deducting one point for how silly the masks are. And if you can't acknowledge that then I'm sorry but there's no helping you.
An all time classic
Not bad but there's a lot better out there
Never heard of these guys but big ups to Finland. I didn't think the album was that great though, pretty good for the time
yeeeeah oh yeah, yeeeahhhhh
What an absolute banger of a debut album
This was elevator music, but decent elevator music
This was pretty cool. I think it's hard to appreciate albums like this without having lived it.
Why are there live albums on this list
I have a hunch that these guys smoked a lot of grass...
Love that this is included
Thought about this for a while. Really enjoyable listen
Okay so I don't think this is the best Neil Young album. I don't think it's necessarily a 5/5 even though it's pretty great. The problem is that I gave all his other albums a 4/5 and I'm not sure if he has any more on this list. So this 5/5 should really be applied to Rust Never Sleeps. I wasn't really focused on it the first time I listened but I've listened to that album a lot since I got it on here. Neil Young isn't a 5/5 overall but definitely higher than a 4/5. He's always been really corny to me, and trust me, he still is. But sitting down and listening to most of his albums has really brought me around. I see him as the everyman's musician. You see him and listen to him and think "man, if this guy can become a superstar, maybe it's not that hard. Maybe he's just like me fr." His vocals aren't other worldly, mostly simple acoustic guitar, average looking guy of his time. Every blue collar alcoholic from the 70's can dream that one day maybe they can be Neil Young. That's what makes him great. Maybe one of the most realistic superstars around. Plus he does a lot of good outside of music so it's hard to diss him. He might not be the most technically advanced musician, but there's just something special about what he does. Can't put my finger on it. But even when he kinda sucks, I don't mind.
I'm surprised I never really knew about this guy. I guess he was just before my time and slightly outside of music taste. Maybe he didn't have as much staying power as some other acts of the time. All I know is that anyone who was married to Mandy Moore has to have some game.
Easily one of my top albums all time
Got this 2 days after Brian Wilson passed. One of the best to ever do it.
I wasn't sold at first but was still a decent listen
I really don't get this pick at all. If they're the start of punk rock then what the hell are MC5? Or the Stooges? This list doesn't get to include every shitty experiment from the 70's because "it's foundational for rock and roll." You get a couple of the good ones for vanity then skip these and include actual good music. These just feel like tryhard picks.
So quintessentially 80's in all the best ways. Outside the obvious big hits, I forgot how good of an album this is.
I've never actively listened to Frank Black before but this album cover was buried somewhere deep in my memories. Pretty good overall
Discovering albums like this almost makes listening to all those generic 80's Brit Pop albums on this list worth it.
Incredibly fun album. Love the "Go West" cover. And also some of these reviews are insane. How have you never heard of the Pet Shop Boys? Even if you don't know this album, c'mon.
Alt Title: Malcolm's Awesome Mixtape #4
This album is fine, but that's it. Just fine. Not much different than half of the other Brit Pop albums listed.
One decent song doesn't equal a great album
All time sad boy album. If anything, just a little short in my opinion.
Aggressively average 2000's British rock music. Also, 1001albumsgenerator conspiracy theory. Two 5/5 ratings for this with identical reviews. Different profiles for each. Is it a computer glitch? Did someone simply decide they liked the other review and copy/paste it? Are The Corals are trying to game the system and boost their 1001 albums rating? Or is it a British psyop to try and convince the world that Brit rock isn't just the same 5 songs over and over? Maybe this entire list is British propaganda.
Look me in my eyes and tell me I need to listen to this before I die. Not a terrible album, I thought it picked up on the B-Side but c'mon people.
Got this right after Roger the Engineer which is pretty funny. It almost has that generic 60's/70's guitar rock sound to it but I'm saying that in 2025. A really solid all around album.
Sorry chief, couldn't do it. No clue if this turns into something more cohesive at some point. But I wasn't hanging around to find out.
Graceland is one of my all time favorite albums so this was pretty sweet
Never knew how stacked this album was
5/5 Easy. Next question
What white bread, silver spoon honkies are giving this 1 or 2 stars? This is pretty solid hip-hop. We have a mini satanic panic going on in the reviews here. "disturbing" "disgusting"... how about you grow up and quit crying about naughty language.
Excuse me, you've "never heard of this artist before"... Get the hell off this egotistical British musician list, take a walk, and think about where everything went wrong in your life.
Never listened to My Bloody Valentine in my life. Didn't even have a concept of what they sounded like. Kinda surprised me
The last Tim Buckley album I got on this list was dog shit. Wasn't expecting much going into this but damn I was impressed. White boy kinda nice with the sauce.
Great pick. Even if this isn't your thing it's such a solid album. Also, so many people got a shout out in the Outro, I'm a little offended I wasn't included. Granted I have never met Lupe Fiasco, but still.
This list never ceases to amaze me with how many forgettable Brit Pop albums it's able to include. There is not one person in the world that would say this album is their favorite of all time. Maybe it's to teach a lesson about what albums you shouldn't listen to? The list also included some pointless ones so it makes the good ones look even better.
One good song doesn't make an album
A lot better than I was expecting
Was never a big fan of xx. Just always sounded "fine"
Also loved this album. Surprised by the low scores
Was already over this album halfway through the first song. I want someone to defend their reason for why I must hear this before I die.
I didn't really have any expectations going into this. Was pleasently surprised.
Not totally my kind of music, but absolutely love the concept
Kids these days forget, but Coldplay actually used to be good
Weird choice of Paul Simon albums to include
Still do not get the hype around The xx. It's fine music but nothing groundbreaking.
This album is great, albeit a little long
whatever
I almost didn't listen because this album wasn't on any of my convenient apps. I'm very glad I ended up looking for it. This is much more unique than 90% of the albums here and was really refreshing after the slog of britpop. This did come in right next to The Sugarcubes album and honestly, comparing this against Bjork does hurt it a little. Plus, she was doing it at least a decade prior. Although, I do take issue with the overall rating of this album. You're free to rate however you feel fit, but I think people just rate albums based on if it's their favorite or not. A lot of really unique and well constructed albums have low scores simply because people don't like the genre. I'd also be really curious to get demographics of the people on this site. If I had to guess I would say it's mostly middle class, middle aged, white men.
Great pick
Never listened to k.d. lang before but this kicks ass. If anyone says otherwise, I'm sorry but you're wrong
Crazy what they had a 17 year old singing about lol
Kind of a sucker for this era of music
23 minutes of noodling on dark star is wild
I was really feeling a 2 on this but haven't given many 1's. And this isn't really undeserving of it....
This is so The Matrix coded
Never heard of these guys but was pleasantly surprised
I don't even want to attempt to put a number on how many times I've listened to the song American Pie. Almost wanted to skip this because I'm tired of it. But it really is an all around solid album.
I wasn't much into this until it got into more ska towards the end
Never listed to Husker Du in my life . This was fine and I get the comparisons to REM. Husker Du is just so much more forgettable. There was nothing really interesting here.
Such a generic 70's sound
Great vibes on this one
Not my favorite Queen album, but really solid listen. Honestly don't think I've ever listened to Queen II all the through.
Always liked this album a lot. Biggest surprise was that it's from '99. Really thought it was newer than that
I get that this is the origin of punk, but I feel like it just doesn't hold up as well as other albums from the time
I was almost gonna shit on this for sounding too generic 80's synth pop. But this the generic 80's sound. It's almost impressive how stereotypical this sounds.
A 15 minute album is hilarious
