Why is this album on this list? Joshua Tree is so much better, but if Joshua Tree is also on this list, that means there are two U2 albums which is far too many. I didn't check this but I have a sneaking suspicion that the Br*tish made this list

This isn't out right bad... It just feels so uninspired. It sounds like every other late 80s/early 90s Brit alt rock albums that this list is rife with. I've gotten so many of these, I think I hit my breaking point.
Also, 1994? This album sounds both behind and ahead of the times, in the worst ways. I like this line from Wikipedia:
"In contrast to their debut album 'Suede', which exhibited the influences of David Bowie and the Smiths,[1] Dog Man Star exhibits a more varied aesthetic and draws from a wider range of influences."
No it doesn't. It sounds like a cheap knock off of both the Smiths and Bowie. There is nothing special about this album and listening felt like a waste of an hour.

4/5
Bruce Springsteen
4/5
You know, I've just always had something against Bruce. Don't get me wrong, I think he's one of the best songwriters of his generation. Just never liked the guy. Maybe it's his voice? How much I heard his music as a child? Could just be the fact that he's from New Jersey. No clue, but could never really be team Springsteen. Kind of rubs me the wrong way that he's so talented. Seriously, all time songwriter and one of the best American musicians ever.
Love Van Zandt's general demeanor though.
Slipknot
2/5
I waffled a lot on this one. It's not exactly my style by I do like some punk and hardcore. There's some alright stuff on this album. A lot of it just runs together.
So I was going to give it 3 stars but deducting one point for how silly the masks are. And if you can't acknowledge that then I'm sorry but there's no helping you.

Never heard of these guys but big ups to Finland. I didn't think the album was that great though, pretty good for the time

Thought about this for a while. Really enjoyable listen

Neil Young
5/5
Okay so I don't think this is the best Neil Young album. I don't think it's necessarily a 5/5 even though it's pretty great. The problem is that I gave all his other albums a 4/5 and I'm not sure if he has any more on this list. So this 5/5 should really be applied to Rust Never Sleeps. I wasn't really focused on it the first time I listened but I've listened to that album a lot since I got it on here. Neil Young isn't a 5/5 overall but definitely higher than a 4/5.
He's always been really corny to me, and trust me, he still is. But sitting down and listening to most of his albums has really brought me around.
I see him as the everyman's musician. You see him and listen to him and think "man, if this guy can become a superstar, maybe it's not that hard. Maybe he's just like me fr." His vocals aren't other worldly, mostly simple acoustic guitar, average looking guy of his time. Every blue collar alcoholic from the 70's can dream that one day maybe they can be Neil Young. That's what makes him great. Maybe one of the most realistic superstars around. Plus he does a lot of good outside of music so it's hard to diss him.
He might not be the most technically advanced musician, but there's just something special about what he does. Can't put my finger on it. But even when he kinda sucks, I don't mind.
Patti Smith
4/5
Ryan Adams
4/5
I'm surprised I never really knew about this guy. I guess he was just before my time and slightly outside of music taste. Maybe he didn't have as much staying power as some other acts of the time.
All I know is that anyone who was married to Mandy Moore has to have some game.
Beatles
5/5
Easily one of my top albums all time
The Beach Boys
4/5
Got this 2 days after Brian Wilson passed.
One of the best to ever do it.
Alice Cooper

Jeru The Damaja
4/5
The Replacements
4/5
David Ackles
3/5
I wasn't sold at first but was still a decent listen
The Dictators
2/5
I really don't get this pick at all. If they're the start of punk rock then what the hell are MC5? Or the Stooges? This list doesn't get to include every shitty experiment from the 70's because "it's foundational for rock and roll." You get a couple of the good ones for vanity then skip these and include actual good music. These just feel like tryhard picks.
Dr. Dre
4/5
Tears For Fears
5/5
So quintessentially 80's in all the best ways. Outside the obvious big hits, I forgot how good of an album this is.
Leonard Cohen
4/5
Cheap Trick
4/5
Bad Brains
3/5
Frank Black
4/5
I've never actively listened to Frank Black before but this album cover was buried somewhere deep in my memories. Pretty good overall
Michael Kiwanuka
5/5
Discovering albums like this almost makes listening to all those generic 80's Brit Pop albums on this list worth it.
Ella Fitzgerald
3/5
Femi Kuti
3/5
Pet Shop Boys
4/5
Incredibly fun album. Love the "Go West" cover.
And also some of these reviews are insane. How have you never heard of the Pet Shop Boys? Even if you don't know this album, c'mon.
Malcolm McLaren
3/5
Alt Title: Malcolm's Awesome Mixtape #4
Prefab Sprout
2/5
This album is fine, but that's it. Just fine. Not much different than half of the other Brit Pop albums listed.
Rocket From The Crypt
2/5
Primal Scream
2/5
One decent song doesn't equal a great album
Bob Dylan
4/5
ZZ Top
5/5
Nick Drake
4/5
All time sad boy album. If anything, just a little short in my opinion.
The Coral
2/5
Aggressively average 2000's British rock music.
Also, 1001albumsgenerator conspiracy theory. Two 5/5 ratings for this with identical reviews. Different profiles for each. Is it a computer glitch? Did someone simply decide they liked the other review and copy/paste it? Are The Corals are trying to game the system and boost their 1001 albums rating? Or is it a British psyop to try and convince the world that Brit rock isn't just the same 5 songs over and over? Maybe this entire list is British propaganda.
Primal Scream
2/5
Look me in my eyes and tell me I need to listen to this before I die.
Not a terrible album, I thought it picked up on the B-Side but c'mon people.
The Yardbirds
3/5
Jeff Beck
4/5
Got this right after Roger the Engineer which is pretty funny. It almost has that generic 60's/70's guitar rock sound to it but I'm saying that in 2025. A really solid all around album.
Minor Threat
3/5
The Fall

Sorry chief, couldn't do it. No clue if this turns into something more cohesive at some point. But I wasn't hanging around to find out.

Dr. Octagon
4/5
What white bread, silver spoon honkies are giving this 1 or 2 stars? This is pretty solid hip-hop. We have a mini satanic panic going on in the reviews here. "disturbing" "disgusting"... how about you grow up and quit crying about naughty language.
Jamiroquai
4/5
Excuse me, you've "never heard of this artist before"... Get the hell off this egotistical British musician list, take a walk, and think about where everything went wrong in your life.
The 13th Floor Elevators
3/5
Miles Davis
4/5
Peter Gabriel
3/5
XTC

My Bloody Valentine

Never listened to My Bloody Valentine in my life. Didn't even have a concept of what they sounded like. Kinda surprised me
Soft Machine
3/5
Tim Buckley
4/5
The last Tim Buckley album I got on this list was dog shit. Wasn't expecting much going into this but damn I was impressed. White boy kinda nice with the sauce.
Lupe Fiasco
5/5
Great pick. Even if this isn't your thing it's such a solid album.
Also, so many people got a shout out in the Outro, I'm a little offended I wasn't included. Granted I have never met Lupe Fiasco, but still.
Scritti Politti
2/5
This list never ceases to amaze me with how many forgettable Brit Pop albums it's able to include. There is not one person in the world that would say this album is their favorite of all time.
Maybe it's to teach a lesson about what albums you shouldn't listen to? The list also included some pointless ones so it makes the good ones look even better.
Mudhoney
4/5
The Jam
2/5
One good song doesn't make an album
The Verve

5/5
50 Cent

This album is great, albeit a little long
Manic Street Preachers
2/5
whatever
Joanna Newsom
4/5
I almost didn't listen because this album wasn't on any of my convenient apps. I'm very glad I ended up looking for it. This is much more unique than 90% of the albums here and was really refreshing after the slog of britpop. This did come in right next to The Sugarcubes album and honestly, comparing this against Bjork does hurt it a little. Plus, she was doing it at least a decade prior.
Although, I do take issue with the overall rating of this album. You're free to rate however you feel fit, but I think people just rate albums based on if it's their favorite or not. A lot of really unique and well constructed albums have low scores simply because people don't like the genre.
I'd also be really curious to get demographics of the people on this site. If I had to guess I would say it's mostly middle class, middle aged, white men.
The Sugarcubes
4/5
Great pick
Peter Gabriel

The Beta Band
