Reviews (page 2 of 12)

Hadn’t revisited this for quite a long time, remember being obsessed with it when I was first exposed to it and, lo and behold, I still love it. It feels like this explosion of their simple and punchy blues garage rock sound into a bunch of different paths, absolutely full of playing and fucking around, genuine “oh that’s what we’re doing for this track” surprises as soon as the marimba or w/e else comes out, without feeling quite as unevenly expansive as Icky Thump. I could maybe take or leave White Moon but the rest basically all work or better, so it stays solid gold with me.

Two incredibly intelligent and exceptionally talented artists. The vision is perfectly executed, the passion is evident. You don’t have to like the sound to appreciate how special this album is.

I’m a simple man, I see white stripes I give 5 stars. I remember being disappointed by the softness of this album after it opens heavy with blue orchid, but it grew on me over the years. Iconic imagery. Love this.

2nd White Stripes album. This is excellant esp the last song what a way to finish to ensure a 5. Didnt know i loved them until i started the 1000.

how dare you? . . . how old are you now anyway?

Have I listened to this album before? Yes How familiar am I with this album? I know this backwards and forwards How do I feel about this artist? Jack White is my guy Pre-Listen Thoughts: I already know what I am going to rate it, but its always a good listen Favorite track(s): White Moon, Forever For Her (Is Over For Me), Denial Twist Post-Listen Thoughts: Always a good time with these two. I love this album. One of my favorite things about this album is how different all the songs are. It shows the Stripes are a lot more than just drums and guitar. Only complaint is his stupid little goatee.

I recently got “White Blood Cells” on this list and going to reiterate the same sentiment: Jack White is a genius, and in comparison to some of his contemporaries (The Black Keys), he takes his influences and melds them into something that sounds exciting and original, rather than just rehashing the same sounds over and over. This album really exemplifies that sentiment, after the gigantic success of Elephant, The White Stripes took a left turn that is surprising and could be alienating, but with repeated listens uncovers fascinating depths. I got this album when I was in Highschool and liked it, before listening to it again for this project I was thinking it might be 4 stars. But listening to it now, and especially after having just listened to White Blood Cells, I think this deserves 5/5 - it is an exciting departure that rewards the listener throughout the run time.

Absolute musical and lyrical virtuosity from an artist at the peak of his youthful powers. A staggering achievement from one of the centuries best bands.

Den her like æ kanskje ikke så godt som de tidligere White Stripes-albuman, men æ like det skikkelig godt likevel, så det va et trivelig gjenhør.

Yeah I liked this one, a welcome change from some of the dross that’s been dished up to me recently. Wouldn’t consider myself a big White Stripes fan historically but maybe I need to reconsider.

Also really good. My doorbell is one of my favorites

One of my favorites

My toddler son and I (he's now 4) first started listening to The White Stripes at the beginning of last year, but this year has been the year we've been going through albums and videos and concerts and really immersing ourselves. The music is good (my son seems to enjoy it much more than I do for some reason and he's always ready to sing and play along on his toy guitar). The drums are simple but effective (they make quite the catchy beat) and the guitar work is amazing. This album is different than its predecessors, however. There's more piano work, different instruments, and experimentation. There's still a couple of the trademark White Stripes bangers ("Blue Orchid", "Red Rain", "Instinct Blues"). "The Denial Twist" is one of my favorite songs because it's just such a catchy earworm. The songs are very introspective and definitely softer, but I think the Stripes can do both heavy and soft well.

PANNING!!!!! yesters mother owns every album by these guys ou. i love this mixing already. drums are a lil behind but it does feel cool. actually it does sound like theyre struggling to stay in time a bit. HOLY FUCK A MARIMBA this album makes me feel like im in a dark room full of dodgem cars being crashed into repeatedly at times i least expect it the percussion and mixing in this goes fucking crazy and i do just love the genre. vocal mixing my sweetheart. very reminiscent of queen tbh, particularly white moon JESUS that guitar is gorgeous. i fucking love it when instruments sound messy as shit. so cool. oh wow take take take has 2 vocal recordings one mixed on either side.... TIMPANI?? TIMPANI???????? highlights: the nurse, the denial twist, instinct blues, as ugly as i seem

Not even my favorite White Stripes album. Still an easy 5 stars

White stripes in their peak form. The blues and folk inspirations are still so strong but the white stripes make it new and completely their own.

I'm so lonely aussi est super belle.

This is a blast from the past; I remember seeing this album advertised on terrestrial TV. I'm only 34, but damn, saying that makes me feel incredibly old. I digress though... The variation on display here is truly outstanding, "Blue Orchid", with it's spicy guitar riffs and energetic drums, and "The Nurse", with it's bone-xylophone beats (Now what I know as a Marimba!) and jarring guitar chords and cymbals, have more variation between them than entire albums have so far in this journey. The album takes a turn into the goofy and fun with "My Doorbell", showing that not just the sound, but also the subject of each song, is subjected to wide variation; another +1 for my criteria on a good album. From there I can only give similar praise, the continued variation is pretty consistent throughout, showcasing serious musical chops from both Meg and Jack throughout. I feel (again and not for the last time this journey I wager) that I lack the musical knowledge to really express what I appreciate about each track, so at the very least, I'll list the other tracks I did love: "The Denial Twist", "White Moon", "Instinct Blues", "As Ugly As I Seem". If 'Elephant' isn't on this list, I need to remember to take the detour for it.

The White Stripes are absolutely in my top 20/25 favorite music artists of all time. In the past, I considered White Blood Cells and Elephant to be their 5-star masterpieces and this one to be in the tier below. Revisiting it now, I've changed my mind. This is the best of the albums I've received on the list so far and I think it's right up there as a White Stripes classic.

Un par de temas parecen canciones de cuna pero estan a punto de explotar. Afloran las distintas influencias y todo parece estar hecho en el living de su casa, con arreglos tan simples que parece que cualquiera lo puede hacer.... Pero no.

Love this

They got weird on this record and I'm here for it.

One banger after another. Sounds like nobody else. Lyrically and musically interesting. Towards the end are there a few tracks that don’t hold up quite as well? Yeah I might take off a half a star for that, but I can’t so I’m In for all five.

The White Stripes are one of my faves and always have been. This record is no different. I always remember this one as "the marimba album" because they use that in a few songs. This record has been with me for a long time, I always revisit a few times a year. Beyond the marimba, they still take you there with garage rock and blues rock. They also have the folksy country songs throughout. They just seem like they're having a blast. Even in the sad songs. I can pretty much get in this album at any time, and I'll be a happy boy.

Easy. I like the one about Rita Hayworth. Lol. And the lonely but not that lonely lol

Great album! Can’t wait to hear more music from this brother-sister duo! Awesome musicians!

The best advice I've ever received! Resist temptation!

I've loved this album for a long time - so some of this rating is no doubt nostalgia! It's not their best album, but I still really love it. I really enjoy the pared back drumming style of Meg and the jinglyjangle chords where the notes sound slightly off. One of the things I enjoy most about the White Stripes is their blues style story-telling with a bit more a raw edge and some silliness thrown in. Big ol' 5 from me, I'll keep coming back for this one. If you think that a kiss is all in the lips, c'mon You got it all wrong man

The last great White Stripes record. By this point they’d moved from where they started to a whole other thing and it worked so well.

I’m a sucker for big distorted guitars but I think that As Ugly As I Seem is my fave song on the album

Excellent, I overdid this one when it came out.

9.3/10

Excellent rock album

Loved it soo much

Really juicy, great fun! ...but I was already a fan.

Big jack white fan so I'm going into this a bit biased Second quarter of the album is a little weak, however it improves as it goes on. 4.5/5, only thing holding this album back is a little too much focus on the folksy side and not enough on the bluesy side

This album was great when I was 15 and somehow even better now at 35. Jack White has proven himself as the real deal, just love it all! Meg, too!

under-appreciated gem from my favorite band of all time. "Passive Manipulation," "White Moon," and "The Nurse " are my absolute favorites on here. It's like when you go from gas station coffee to a shot of espresso, or Miller High Life to a stout - a punch in the mug that leaves you befuddled, a bit in pain, but wanting to give it another try "just to make sure i *really* don't like it. PS if you know nothing else off the album, the movie ParaNorman used "Little Ghost" to delightful effect in its end credits. :)

i really like this album

God, I love the White Stripes. This album is great, no notes.

Rounding up from 4.5. I've casually enjoyed the White Stripes, but had never heard most of this. Great stuff. Can't really figure out why Jack White's voice works, but it does. The guitar is the star, of course.

An all time classic. Speaks to my younger self, but just as relevant now. Superb musicianship, just and absolute commander of the guitar.

Blue orchid - 5 The nurse - 3 My doorbell - 5 Forever for her (is over for me) - 5 Little ghost - 4 The denial twist - 5 White moon - 3 Instinct blues - 3 Passive manipulation - 3 Take, take, take - 5 As ugly as I seem - 5 Red rain - 4 I'm lonely (but I ain't that lonely yet) - 5

Man, I used smash this album, now I remember why. So good

Album 1049 of 1089 Get Behind Me Satan - The White Stripes (2005) Rating : 5 / 5 Full disclosure - I’m fully into The White Stripes. You’re not likely to hear me say much negative when it comes to them. Some albums hit harder than others, sure, but they’ve never really missed for me. This one may not be their absolute best, but it absolutely does the job. What stands out here is how they shift things around a bit. Less reliance on big guitar walls and more piano, marimba, and stripped-down arrangements. It still sounds unmistakably like The White Stripes - just exploring a slightly different corner of their sound. Jack’s songwriting remains top level. Whether he’s leaning into blues, folk, or something a little off-center, he always sounds intentional. And his guitar work - when it shows up front and center - is as sharp and expressive as ever. Meg’s drumming, as always, is simple but effective. She doesn’t overplay. She never tries to be flashy. She just locks in and lets the songs breathe. That minimalism is part of what makes their sound so distinct. I just like their style. I like the rawness, the creativity, and the confidence to not overcomplicate things. They can’t really do wrong by me.

can't go wrong with more white stripes. compared to their other albums, which leaned more on alt rock, this one decides to go a little crazier with its instrumentals. with fun melodies, a level of instrumentation that makes it sound like you're having a hoedown at a saloon, and a surprising abundance of marimbas, this is yet another album by these guys i've listened to and i love. apparently wikipedia says this album is the band's most misunderstood album... i think that people just can't handle a little bit of variety. i love it!

This is a wonderful album.

classics

Strongly believe jack white is the best musician of this era. A musical genious that I didnt appreciate at first thinking he was overhyped. I stand corrected this album is just perfect

Great album

I’MTHINKINBOUTMYDOORBELLWHENYAGONNARINGITWHENYAGONNARINGIT??

Excellent album, fresh, Blue Orchid, My Doorbell are outstanding bangers, this deserves to be appreciated.

<3 4.5/5

Despite the drumming, this is a great rock album. Jack White continues to be an excellent songwriter, every song just works

I'll often consider The White Stripes as having great songs forced upon a limited palette, but here they expand the palette enough to bring joy to listeners. Even someone like me who considers them 'ok' can't help but be charmed by this album. Pretty much can't be faulted, perfect 3 minute songwriting. 5 stars all day.

"Blue Orchid" er klassisk White Stripes, og høres ut som den kanskje er overskuddsmateriale fra en av de tidligere platene. Men åpningssporet sier lite om hva slags plate dette er. For om White Stripes regnes som et gitarband, så er denne plata et utskudd i katalogen. Faktisk vil jeg si det er et pianoalbum, i alle fall et nesten akustisk album. Det er mindre garasjerockinnflytelser og mer country, blues og soul. Mens "The Denial Twist" og "My Doorbell" flørter litt med hiphop.

More experimental than most of the White Stripes stuff, this is still an amazing album. I love the run they had.

Incredible album with no skips. Each song is distinct yet cohesive. No one is quite as cool as the White Stripes

Another great album

Awesome album

This is a genius album, 5/5

ja dit vind ik echt fantastisch

Loved!

Strange, playful, and emotionally off balance in a good way. Rating: 4.6/5 Short Review: This album trades garage rock punch for piano, marimba, and mood swings. It feels restless, theatrical, and experimental while still sounding unmistakably like them. Favorite Track: The Denial Twist. Moody, catchy, and slyly hypnotic.

The second half of the album declines a bit (with the exception of As Ugly As I Seem), but overall this is fantastic.

blue orchid 2005 alternative rock united states

Fantastic name for an album

Fantastic

I won’t apologize for being a jack white stan. I won’t

Man, the talented really do shine. This is just another level from the first notes. I love the piano and breadth of this album, adding variety and depth to their balls-out rock’n’roll. It’s just great, top to bottom.

Every White Tripes album was a moment of music history where was Rock was reclaimed and updated for the 21st century.

Excellent album.

barely got to start it, day ran away from me, but this is what I'm looking for

Weird and experimental but just so dang interesting to listen to.

Coming off their commercial and critical high point in Elephant, The White Stripes took the time honored tradition of taking their time to come out with their most experimental album. In fact, this might be Jack White's most experimental album period (other than maybe Boarding House Reach). Instead of the straightforward, almost punk DIY sound, the duo comes out with a record full of piano, marimba and even xylophone. As a superfan of the group, it should come as no surprise that because of that, this is easily their worst album IMO. And as a superfan of the group it should also come as no surprise that I'm still giving this 5 stars. 10/10

See my comments on last week's White Stripes. :)

Great live band, love the aesthetic - LOVE A FEMALE DRUMMER Can't get Ring my Doorbell out of my head now !!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A departure from the heavier guitar riff driven songs of their previous records, mostly piano driven songs. Still really enjoyable

Not my favourite of theirs, of course, but still excellent.

Ja die White Stripes. Toll c

any hand raised against Meg white shall fall

Have listened to this album many times. Excellent. They don’t make good albums like this anymore.

It was a surprisingly good recommendation. I was pleasantly surprised

I never fell for the White Stripes like my friends did at this time but this album really cemented the band as an “it” band for the era. The album showed the rare growth as songwriters and not just dicking around for pretension.

Amazing. Nostalgic, but as good as I remember.

Less than 100 albuns in and this is my second The White Stripes album. And what abpleasant listen, way better than The White Blood Cells. It took me to 2005 when I used to watch "Blue Orchid" and "Doorbell" videos on MTV, I used to hate "Blue Orchid", but what a fantastic song. Them switching to piano and experimenting with marimbas is so so cool. It stll feels fresh after 20 years and, honestly, this is the wxciting White Stripes I remeber. I don't know if Elephant is on the list, but well, ai am giving it a 5. For the innovation and yep, nostalgia as well

Always slays

The temptation to give this five stars is great, because it's the White Stripes, and all their singular energy that feels at once modern and alsolike listening to some old blues song for the first time. Is it just a bit all over the place, and not an album though? Ah helll, it is five stars. Why not. Dances from aggresssive riffs to childlike wonder with naught but a piano. Happily would listen to on repeat all day.

Very good

I've always considered this to be a tightly orchestrated masterpiece. My opinion has not changed.

I’m amazed at the music that this duo produces. The songs are all rock yet they don’t all sound the same. Great album. Favorite songs: The Nurse, My Doorbell, Little Ghost, The Denial Twist, Passive Manipulation, As Ugly As I Seem

I’ve been listening to The White Stripes for about 25 years, and they’re still my favorite band. On Get Behind Me Satan, I love the raw garage rock energy in songs like Blue Orchid and Instinct Blues—that buzzing Jack White guitar sound always gets me. But at the same time, tracks like Forever For Her (Is Over For Me) really blow me away. Even when the electric guitar disappears and the piano takes center stage, Jack’s unique rock spirit still shines through.

Perfect record

10 stars would be my choice!

Pop rock that’s a lot of fun and that belongs to an era of music that deeply shaped my musical tastes and interests.

Aside from the great hits (including Denial Twist), this has some good beat poetry that I think my mom would like too.

I loved this???? Dramatic pop. With so much variety. I loved the Marimba. I would listen to this any day of the week and that shocks me bc I've never thought of myself as a White Stripes fan. I don't know if it's a 5 for me but it's DARN close. I think it might be edged out for me by I'm Lonely but I aint that lonely yet. This is emo theatre kid music and I'm not afraid to say that that's right up my alley.

oh hell yeah!

Great album

Always consistant is Jack White and this album paved the way to future solo projects

It’s The White Stripes. They’re a little different this time, but they’re still Jack and Meg White, and they’re still great musicians.

I've always loved Jack White and his various bands, and this is no exception.

Great album! Each song is strong. Love this album!!!

Pioneering indie rock album with blues, country, gospel, and rock ‘n’ roll influences among others. 10/10

wow, this is great. lots of variety.

This may be too generous, but the White Stripes are always welcome music to my ears.

This may not be as consistantly strong as "Elephant", but it starts off with absolute bangers and I appreciate all the different instruments used and the mix of acoustic songs and electric songs. Pretty cool album

Bendecida por los dioses

Brilliant band, brilliant album.

8/5/25. I can't leave a fair review since the White Stripes are one of my all time favorite bands, and this album in particular is one I've listened to plenty of times previously. Really loved how they expanded their sound and songwriting, including more piano and percussion elements. Love this one!

best album so far. loved every bit of it

White Stripes rock!!

The White Stripes trade their post punk revival sound for blues. I quite like it. 9/10

Not as good as white blood cells but still very much enjoyed

An easy 5/5 for me and maybe The White Stripes most interesting work? A little of everything on here. White Moon was really soft and lovely. Little Ghost brought on the bluegrass. The Denial Twist sounds like a lot of what Jack would make years later. As Ugly As I Seem is now my favorite stripes song. So real. Lovely 44 mins

I was not familiar with this White Stripes album, but wow, what an extraordinary journey.

Instant 5, I grew up on this album and will always love it.

Bewildered

Great album. Simple can often be better.

Yeah, I'm already a White Stripes fan. This five star rating is, naturally, biased as hell.

All time classic.

A classic that aged like a fine wine

Just pleasantly surprised song after song.

TOP TOP

Niet echt wat ik verwachtte bij de White Stripes, maar het is wel echt goed. Een paar nummers die wat saai zijn, maar het merendeel is wel echt lekker

Definitely my favorite WS album and one of my favorite albums period.

I’ve been on a very heavy Jack White kick for a while so I’m absolutely in the mood for this album. I was planning on doing a full album run eventually so it’s cool to be back to this one. A lot of good songs and just weird music but I’m here for it. Alternatively my review can be summarized as: MORE FODDER FOR MY JACK WHITE PLAYLIST ;)

Great stuff

I actually loved this

The White Striped made a series of very good album in which they displayed a great ability to synthesise something exciting from influences from blues, heavy 60s/70s blues and other styles without seeming too derivative. Personally I don't think this is their best, but definitely a great album.

5 stars fer sher

Great duo always a fan 5 stars

The exploration on this album is very interesting, a band that is confident in its powers and that their fans will take the journey with them. The production is stunning, garage rock has never sounded better.

Two in a row for the stripes. Also excellent album

Ashamed I hadn’t listened to this before

Great album. I bought this when it wa was released the first time. I think it was overplayed (everywhere) at the time and I got a bit bored of the white stripes. Good to be reminded of them.

brings back teenage memories

Perfection.

Ez jóó

I liked it! Especially Nurse. Silly thing to say, but it feels very White Stripes.

This one came out when I was in my early 20s while I was at law school. I wore this album out. One of my favorite albums...period. Starts off on fire...and stays that way the entire album. Saw them in concern in Detroit about a year after it came out and it's still one of the best concerts I've ever been to. A+++++++

Nikad mi ne bi naumpalo da odslušam njihov cijeli album. Zanimljivo je. Potpuno drugačije od svega. Definitivno je vrijedilo odslušati i slušat će se opet.

simple well writen music 9.5 out of 10

Heard it a 100 times before. Top 4 Stripes albums!

Brilliance!

I miss the White Stripes

I love The White Stripes and this is another album that I know so well it's hard for me to review. It's not as consistent as Elephant or Icky Thump but I still love it. Their music leans heavily on rhythm which I really enjoy.

<3 it.

The White Stripes go weird. Another chapter in the making of Jack White as a top tier musician and arguably their strongest album. The mix of odd instrumentation and yet being still steeped in thie history of Americana and blues just adds another layer to this album's greatness. Best Tracks: Blue Orchid; My Doorbell; I'm Lonely (But I Ain't That Lonely Yet)

While it's probably not the "best" White Stripes album, it is definitely my favorite. Hearing this album takes me back to such a specific time in my life. I was 14, in the throes of my "emo" music phase. The emo music took a brief backseat that summer when one weekend this album and X&Y by Coldplay came out, I remember buying both at the same time. My mom was a schoolteacher, so every summer my brother and I would go up to her school with her and help her prepare her classroom or just wander around the empty school (which was always so fun). This album served as the soundtrack for a good chunk of this summer, and I even got my mom into it (she particularly liked My Doorbell and would do a super annoying voice and dance to the song, I think of her every time I hear it now). Just a special album to me. Easy 5 stars.

лучше чем прошлый, оч атмосферный рок того времени

Great love the sound

I got my stomp on commuting to work with this in my ears. I was joyfully moshing people out the way and waving as I bounced through the train station barriers. Why are all these grumpy commuters frowning? Turn those friends upside down guys, it's White Stripes Monday, you know.

what's not to love about this oddball

I've listened to this album dozens of times even before participating in the 1001 albums... Added to Library: TRUE The range of different styles and variety of sounds Meg and Jack can make is, quite frankly, astounding. Blue Orchid opens the album so aggressively; every time I hear those first few seconds I get so hyped up, and then the next song, The Nurse shifts gears and is using a marimba or some other type of xylophon, and feels... Tropical almost. I think my favorite song(s) though are Passive Manipulation and Take Take Take. Especially TTT, where you have this escalating scenario of Jack's "needs" and expectations when he meets Rita Hayworth. He can't get enough and boils down the entire experience to one word. TAKE. Edit: Increased to 5. I can listen to the White Stripes until time ends, and this is one of my favorite albums.

Wasn't sure we needed yet another White Stripes album on here, but this is great. Clever lyrics without being too clever for their own good. Catchy tunes too. Had a couple of lulls here and there but overall I just really dug it.

10/10, no notes.

They rock the hardest.

The second huge surprise for me. This one is even bigger than New Order's Technique. In the morning I open the two albums that need to be listened to and usually I always go with the individual album first, then the group album (I have second project too, with a group of 25+ people). But this morning I could barely get out of bed, I think every bone in my body ached. And when I saw Satan in the title of this album, I thought only satanic music left and I could jump in front of a moving bus (I didn't even read what the whole title actually meant, which was because I wasn't well at all). So I listened to the group album first, and left this one for later. And I think I couldn't have chosen better! I, like everyone else, know The White Stripes from their anthem Seven Nation Army and a few other songs, including Blue Orchid, but they all follow more or less the same sound: guitar-heavy, with an indie garage rock revival sound, which leans more towards alternative than classic. I expected to hear something like that here, but boy, oh, boy... This is more colorful than the fucking flag of the LGBTQksduhdusad+ population! Here I heard pop, I heard country, I heard hard rock, I heard blues, a lot of experimentation... And not a little bit in every song, but literally every song is like from a a separate genre: there are pop piano ballads (White Moon) and other soft pop-rock (I'm Lonely But I Ain't That Lonely Yet, My Doorbell), and country (Little Ghost), and blues (Instinct Blues), and of course, the well-known alternative rock sound of the Whites (Blue Orchid, which I already said was the only one I knew from here)... This is an album in which the heavy electric guitar riffs that they are famous for are replaced with piano, so you will find several songs in which you can't even hear the sound of the guitar, and in those in which you will recognize it, it is an acoustic guitar. And what struck me especially strongly: they play with percussion like no one I have ever heard before. So, in every song it seems like there is some new, strange drum and rattle. I heard xylophones and metallophones, rattles like a bottle full of sand, some strange percussion that sounded like he was tapping on the plastic chair he was sitting on, even a tambourine in one song, and in another - the sound of cutlery in a drawer in a semi-dark room. :P And all of that, all of this colorfulness is brought together by the lucid voice of Jack White and the incredible Meg White on drums. And Rita Hayworth in the lyrics, of course. :P The sound is far more melodic than anything you've heard from them before, except for a song from this album, of course. There was another album before that I criticized for not sounding like a coherent whole. Well, this is a completely different level then, but I enjoyed every fucking second of it! Favorite songs: of course Blue Orchid, the jingle My Doorbell Which I believe will be ringing in my head for a long time, I'm Lonely But I Ain't That Lonely Yet, Instinct Blues, As Ugly As I Seem, but most of all Forever For Her (Is Over For Me) which instantly entered every one of my favorites lists on Spotify! If I had listened to any of these songs yesterday (except Blue Orchid), it would never have occurred to me that it was from TWS. I'm currently playing the album for the third time tonight! And who knows how many more times I'll listen to it, because I didn't expect such a refreshing experience at all! Without hesitation, 5/5!

Gave me a new appreciation for them. Only had heard their pop hits. Great album, great lyrics.

Great surprise, maybe my favourite from this list so far.

This is the 42nd album I’m rating. I’ve only listened to Seven Nation Army but it was pretty good so this better be good. Adding to my Playlist - Blue Orchid, The Nurse, My Doorbell, Forever for Her (Is Over for Me), The Denial Twist, and I’m Lonely (But I Ain’t That Lonely Yet). Not Adding to my Playlist - Little Ghost, White Moon, Instinct Blues, Passive Manipulation, Take, Take, Take, As Ugly as I Seem, and Red Rain Take, Take, Take - This sound stolen. I don’t think it is but it feels so derivative. All in all I liked 6/13 songs. This was pretty basic and a little annoying at times. However, it had some great songs on it.

White stripes have never stuck in my regular rotation. Blue orchid might be my favourite ws songs. Got everything that makes them good.

I've always liked The White Stripes, but I never thought one of their albums would blow me away. Every song is its own unique adventure, and both Jack White, and his wife Meg White are on point with every instrument, and lyric. A true 2000s Rock 'N Roll masterpiece. Favorite Track: "My Doorbell". (For the first time, I'm giving an album five stars the day after I gave an album one star).

Best Stripes album. Pinnacle of the 2000's

Jack White is genius

Classic, was in regular rotation when I was a teenager

I feel like I just had White Blood Cells, which I gave a 5 because I didn't know if there were any other WS albums on the list. But now I remember I like GBMS even more. My 2000s bias might be showing again. But it's hard to give less than 5 stars to albums you loved growing up. And this is genuinely a great album. I always kind of chuckled at anyone ranting about how Meg was a terrible drummer. Together, she and Jack created something so unique, and these songs just wouldn't hit the same if they were too rhythmically perfect. And when they play, they are in tune with and energized by each other. Why would you change a single thing? I wonder if Elephant or Icky Thump are on the list, because those would be my other choices. But anyway, love White Stripes, love this album, happy Sunday.

I ended up downloading a couple of songs from this album. Loved the uniqueness of it.

Love this album, easily their best IMO.

I LOVED it <3

Great!

Perfekt harmonisk grimhed.

❤️🎸Jack & Meg 🥁🖤 Endnu et fanstastisk album af De Hvi’e Striver. Albummet bygger fint videre fra forgængeren. Jack hiver endnu flere instrumenter ind. Standout tracks: - Blue Orchid - My Doorbell - Forever For Her - The Denial Twist - Instinct Blues - Take, Take, Take - I’m Lonely

I'm thinkin' about my doorbell When you gonna ring it, and when you gonna ring it Great album. 5/5

"The Denial Twist" always has me making the most unacceptable John Mayer guitar faces from the first note. Love it.

Quality

Just so fun!

Okay, I'm a White Stripes convert.

Incredible. So many bangers. Maintains a consistent tone/sound/feel throughout the album without every song sounding the same.

Fantastic and underrated White Stripes album

Blue Orchid is my favorite White Stripes' song. Great start to an album. The Nurse is a great album track. My Doorbell is another great song. This album is a great introduction to the White Stripes; well produced, whimsical, accessible but also representative of their larger body of work in a lot of ways. This album has the feeling of some Led Zeppelin's more humorous songs, like Gallows Pole. Little Ghost is really catchy. Blue Orchid, My Doorbell and The Denial Twist were the singles and it is hard to argue with those choices. Meg White's singing on Passive Manipulation has a Nico-like quality to it. I would describe this album as "playful", even by Jack White standards. This is a great album from start to finish. The singles are amazing and the album tracks are great too. It's hard to pick a song that isn't good or misses.

The White Stripes evolve, but still keep it in the garage.

I liked it a lot.

I’ve always loved the creative freedom in White Stripes albums. The only constraints are that it’s gotta be played live by the two members in the band. These songs aren’t over analyzed or over produced. They’re recorded as they’re realized. All the excitement of a newly written song is captured and presented to the listener. Jack and Meg always defied convention and just went in whatever direction the creative winds took them. This is all very inspiring to me. It took a road trip listen to this album back in 2008 for me to fully appreciate this album. It feels more like watching a documentary on the process of two highly creative individuals rather than listening to a collection of songs. Despite all of that these songs are great and stick in your head instantly.

Instant five for me, and I'm sure I mentioned it in one of the other White Stripes reviews, but I think this may be my favorite of their albums. Such a fun degree of variety on display here. You get the heavy rock, plus some more folksy tunes, and then a few that kind of defy category, like "The Nurse," one of my fav White Stripes songs ever. I remember hearing it for the first time in high school when an English teacher was playing it for us and making comparisons to Macbeth or Hamlet or something and all I cared about was the guitar screaming to get out. Jack White is one of my favorite guitarists ever, such a unique style and so much soul. "Instinct Blues" is a great showcase of that, the guitar sounds like drunk person just meandering and sputtering out random notes, suddenly forced to sober up and belt out the appropriate riffs. Anybody who can make an instrument sound alive and with its own will contrary to the player is a wizard. Favorite tracks: The Nurse, Instinct Blues, Blue Orchid, The Denial Twist, Little Ghost, Passive Manipulation, My Doorbell, Forever For Her, Take Take Take, Red Rain. Album art: Another entry in the red/white/black saga. They committed to it well. Jack and Meg standing back to back, sort of reaching out to each other. Meg is holding a white apple, I have no idea what Jack is holding. Which one of them is Satan? 5/5

This should have been their last album

Loved it

The really unique thing about the White Stripes is their willingness to allow space in their songs. They are able to create powerful songs without a wall of sound behind the vocals on every track. Leaning into the piano instead of a heavy electric guitar for so much of this album was also an interesting choice, and in my opinion one that paid off well.

Awesome!!

The album has a really fun energy to it, and I'm disappointed in myself for not having listened to the whole thing when it came out.

I liked this a LOT more than I thought I would. I last heard this album a long time ago and I didn't realize just how well it hangs together. Just good minimalist rock and roll. Unexpected bangers: Little Ghost, Passive Manipulation, As Ugly As I Seem

bloody good

Longtime favorite album - love seeing this on the list!

Jack white rocks

Geweldig album! Vette rockende nummers, lekkere bluesy nummers, en prachtige rustige tracks. Divers en toch overduidelijk White Stripes.

Original and fresh!

Amazing album. Had much more chill songs than I expected

I couldn’t be happier that this album is on here. It very much changed my life. White Blood Cells and Elephant made me a White Stripes fan, but this one kickstarted my Jack White obsession and opened the doors to looking at music in an entirely different way. I don’t care if other people view it as inferior to the rest of their catalog; I love every single second of it. 5+/5

Husband and Wife team with amazing guitar and drums.

Loved the pure RAWK of white stripes when they came out. But for some reason I got obsessed with Doorbell and Denial Twist and the greater piano influence on this one. And this is really an album where Meg White's subdued 'Ringo' role really shines.

Not their best album, but they’re all great.

Not a bad song on the album. I liked My Doorbell, Little Ghost, Take, Take, Take and I’m lonely (But I ain’t that lonely yet). Take, Take, Take seemed like a fun commentary on parasocial interactions. I’m lonely was just a fantastic way to end the album. It really built and hit hard, even teared up a bit.

I try not to give 5s to albums that I listen to for the first time, as I need to live with with an album longer than that to love it, but holy shit, this album fucks. No skips whatsoever and most songs I outright fuck with heavy. Not sure if I’ll feel the same later, but damn this album feels great.

Love this band. Probably their most eclectic album. I managed to get tickets today to see Jack White in a few days so I think this was a good sign.

Maybe my fave White Stripes album? Everything about this album is so good, no skips.

i love this album, definitely the kinda music that i enjoy listening to and i would definitely listen to it again

4/5 for being awesome album. Extra star because I’ve listened to it before.

Jack White is a master at less is more. Sometimes the best or catchiest music is the simplest and it feels like he studied a lot of classic blues to come up with this formula. I like the shift in their sound for this record away from a mostly guitar driven approach, which is opposite to how I would normally feel being a big guitar fan, but it works to make this album sound like something new and exciting.

I used to think this was the worst White Stripes album (still incredible, but not on level with their other work). I’ve matured since then and realized this is a generational talent

I love The White Stripes. They are one of my favorite bands. I have previously listened to two of their other albums. Today was my first time listening to Get Behind Me Satan. Now, although it isn't their best, that doesn't mean that it isn't good. This album was really solid and entertaining. My favorite will always be Blue Orchid. Nothing can beat it.

oh hell yeah!! I Haven't ever listened to a whole White Stripes album. I really like these guys though. I like their music, their album art, the way they look etc. 5 stars

Sure it's a bit different, but it still sounds just like the White Stripes. Only one song I didn't really like, a whole bunch that I did, and an overall great sound. And 'Blue Orchid' rocks 🤟

White Stripes are great. White Orchid is one of their best.

They didn't make any bad albums. This one is a great one.

Loved this one when it was new, and again now. Jack is a genius.

This is one of the formative albums in my life so I'm probably a bit biased as I listened to this so much when it was released

Great band. This is first time hearing this album in its entirety and while it has some down moments I’m rounding up to 5. Best to listen through while reading the lyrics…

So many pop hits off of one album. Bopped too hard to work to.

Great album

It’s not quite up there with Elephant but still getting a 5 from me. There is something about them

Doorbell

Brilliant album! It is so deep, "juicy", melodious, intense and different. I like it very much.

Awww yeah... I love My Doorbell, made by the same guy who made My Pillow. Or Ring. Both of which are meh. But the song... super duper A-class number 1. Really good album.

The White Stripes have that "something". Bluesy, passionate rock, that isn't afraid to have sparse stripped down tracks that really highlight Jack White's vocal delivery. From start to finish the tracks are engaging and varied enough that really hold your attention.

Surprised at seeing this album here, it's by far my favourite from the white stripes and has a feel all of it's own. Bluesy, jokey and schizophrenic, I love this album 5

I never listened to this album before because I hate that stupid doorbell song. But in the context of the album, even doorbell becomes awesome. This album is a very good time.

The culmination and high point of The White Stripes project - stripped back instrumentation and tunes written as if in haste with the devil at their back. Flee those demons and make great, engaging, quirky blues rock.

One of the few arguably flawless discographies in music. They're all classics.

Raw dogged simple rock with a soulful southern twang. Love this album and if I had to choose, would pick it to be jammed in my car cd player to be repeated into eternity

I enjoyed the pared-back piano-percussion approach in this album. Guitar gets a run in a couple of songs but it's surprisingly absent for a crunchy rock/blues album. "I'm Lonely" is a beautiful melodic/harmonic plaintive piano cry, with a touch of hope. "My Doorbell" was written for the shaker 😎

Never disappointed by The Withe Stripes

What an album. Forgot how good it was

Þetta er aftur á móti afar gott og lifir vel áratugum seinna. Merkilega fjölbreytt miðað við instrumentationin og productionin er í raun berstrípuð. Yeps.

I love that this album really focuses on rhythm and does it with so many different instruments from drums, piano, marimba, each get their moment. I don't know that any other band I've heard uses cymbals they way Meg White does, and it's fascinating. I would guess that it'd irritate me, but it's just enough in exactly the right moment. Propulsive and fun. Really enjoyed this.

As opposed to his solo "Blunderbuss" album, this effort by Jack White captures his range in a pleasingly cohesive way. Despite switching methods between his signature heavy guitar to marimbas, piano, acoustic guitar, and more, Jack & Meg cracked open the snow globe to their whole universe of sonic capabilities and influences here. Memorable hooks, poignant songwriting throughout, Meg on point, larger range of production but with excellent sounding analog recording style. 5/5

Nice record! It just spreads so man good vibes

Favorite Track: My Doorbell Forever For Her (Is Over For Me) The Nurse

❤️🤍🖤❤️🤍🖤❤️🤍🖤❤️🤍🖤❤️🤍🖤❤️🤍🖤❤️🤍🖤❤️ Love this album and the way they complement each other! 🤍🖤❤️🤍🖤❤️🤍🖤❤️🤍🖤❤️🤍🖤❤️🤍🖤❤️🤍🖤❤️🤍🖤❤️

Excellent

Hadn’t listened to this in a while. A game changer.

fernando van der burg hardstyle 80s

Enjoyed that.

Bangers on top of bangers on top of bangers.

Such a unique sound. While not super melodic, the driving rhythms and interesting lyrics make this album memorable.

Genius

So good. Brightened my morning to see this one.

White Stripes is one of those bands that gets better the old you get. They’re weird wall of sound and sonic explosion was so different from everything on the radio it takes a few listens to love from “what is this” to a state of true appreciation. Favorite tracks are the blues-based My Doorbell and oddly The Nurse (rock xylophone…who knew?!) There is genius in each spin!

I forgot how much this album kicks ass! So fun to revisit some of my jams from the mid-2000s. At first, I thought they picked the wrong White Stripes album and thought it should have been Elephant. But this album actually is probably as good, maybe even better. Blue Orchid kicks major ass and is a great opening track but is definitely an outlier in terms of sound for this record. "The Nurse" with the cool marimbas featured lets you know this album covers a lot of ground. There are a few country-like offerings ("Little Ghost") and then one of my favorite White Stripes tracks on here is "Take, Take, Take". "Red Rain", "My Doorbell", and "The Denial Twist" are other standouts. I was excited to listen to this one twice!

Forgot how much of a banger this album is

Such a great album. The lyrics are excellent, the frantic off-beat-just-right sounds keeping me moving around. So much character of the sound was captured in the recording too. Love this one.

Amazing album

Love white stripes

Slick riffs and plain drums Energetic fun blues blend Twisted charisma

Love the White Stripes. I've listened to this album a ton so I knew every song. Still regret never seeing them live.

Always great to have some jack and meg on the list

This album is excellent. From beginning to end, there's not a down track to be found. Little Ghost was an unexpected treat.

Heel fijn album, van genoten. Jack White is echt een goede songwriter, zoveel variatie maar alles werkt. Ik moet echt meer van hun discografie gaan ontdekken.

Production heavy, guitar focused blues outlined the true power of The White Stripes.

So Awesome. I really enjoy Jack White's music.

Love it. Great guitar tracks. Jack White does some really cool stuff.

Banger

I am generally a fan of the white stripes. For me they have unbelievable peaks, but some pretty big misses. I had avoided this album and just about every song on it and it completely surprised me. It was not the style expected it was quite experimental. Upon one listen I think it might be my favorite album of theirs although maybe without a peak as high as their previous 3. We’ll see how this sits with me over time, but excellent upon first listen.

Love it. Loved it the first time. That said White Elephant better make the list too.

I've listened to a few of the songs on this album before. They all sound pretty similar. White Moon is a cool song. I wasn't a fan of Little Ghost. Instinct Blues is also cool.

Love everything they do. 5⭐️

While this isn't the strongest White Stripes album, it's super solid. I love their sound and influence of blues and garage rock.

Easily, one of my desert island albums.

YES <3

Such a slay. Loved it. 9/10

YES YES YES!!!!!!!

YES!!! ok happy this one came across - haven't listened to the White Stripes in forever

Awesome

Classic White Stripes with a good mix of dirty high octane songs, and minimalistic numbers.

Still love this

You know I love me some Jack and Meg. I remember when this album came out and my mom had grabbed the CD for me while I was at school and I came home and played the absolute shit out of it. Crazy that this is the follow up to Elephant

This ain't my favorite White Stripes album but it's still the fuckin' White Stripes and I gotta represent. Love the pattern of up-tempo then slow-tempo. Love that Meg sings. Love that Conan helped out.

i want to marry meg white

Great collection of songs

Genre: Pop Rock (?) Instruments: 4/5 Modern Translation: 5/5 Dance Potential: 3/5 Listening Location: commute to work across two days Favourite Song: Little Ghost Made me feel: Surprised! Some songs made me bop, others were too rocky. “Little Ghost” had a country twang! Huge variety in this album that kept me guessing.

Great Variety. Amazing lyrics and full sound from one guitar and drums!

I can't believe it's two people

I enjoyed the album. I never listened to The White Stripes before.

Solid Jack and Meg from the D

Interesting album, varying styles, but all drum heavy (which isn't a bad thing). Liked the album, and particularly liked "Instinct Blues".
