I mean it rocks when it goes for a more jam band/psych/prog thing but most of it is just the roots rock thing and I really, really don't care for it at all, which is a shame because they know how to make some extended jamming sound awesome.

Enjoyed this more than expected. Overall mixed but there were some solid moments here and there. Highlight may be the jungle song (forget the title rn) Did Not like the vocals on most tracks, but when he wasn't doing that bluesy screech I was into it

I always struggle with this band for some reason. I don't know why. I mean the music is fine, it just does nothing for me. First song is already irritatingly monotonous. I love a good 7+ minute song but not this. I don't know. The whole southern rock thing never really appealed to me and even though they were from San Francisco, they definitely fall in the southern rock category. I get that this is one of those albums that everyone is supposed to love, I just don't. But even if you aren't a CCR fan, you've probably heard at lest half of these songs a bunch of times before. The cover of I Heard It Through The Grapevine isn't bad, I'll give them that. 2/5

I've never really been a fan of CCR. They're great for what they are, and I appreciate their place in music history, but beyond that, I'm just not a fan.

It was okay, but every song souded basically the same and they didn't really catch me, so it got a bit boring. Maybe a second listen would change this, but this was my first impression

Some decent highlights on this record, but also quite a lot of tracks that don't feel that inspired. Travelin Band for example takes a cookie cutter Little Richard template, but doesn't take it anywhere. The longer tracks like Ramble Tamble and cover of Heard It Through the Grapevine at least show some experimentation, but overall lacks the punch of earlier CCR. Not for me. Reminds me of the music that my dad listens to, and not in a good way. I can't really describe it any other way. It's as-if CCR was too concerned with talking badly about the war and government to focus on writing good music.

The middle section of Ramble Tamble was pretty good. Otherwise nothing interested me. The weird effect on the vocals makes it sound like the singer is shouting at the microphone from a few feet away.

I understand that this has merit, the playing is good and there is obviously some good 70's blues rock in there. Bit it washed over me without leaving any impression except for the awful Marvin Gaye cover.

Nothing caught my attention here.

There's an awful lot of masturbatory guitar solos in here, and their jam band style could have used more editing for an album (ramble ramble absolutely does not need to be 7 minutes long, good God). But some of their better songs are on this, and it's a vibe. Enjoyable enough, but I won't revisit.

My first job after leaving school was working in a carpet factory when I was 16. One of my overriding memories of that time was relentlessly hearing Bad Moon Rising on the radio as I worked. Not a bad song and in fairness not on this album but that bloody song sent me nuts and this experience has clouded my appreciation of CCR which amounts to nothing and they were a group who I did not to have any involvement with. Listening to the album today I recognise many of the tracks as hits but did not change my opinion of CCR. An album described as good or better by many but not by me. 2/5 5/5/24

Pretty mid to me, I knew by the fourth track I wasn't gonna give this a second listen. I'm iffy on John's voice, and so many of the songs blend together in a boring way. I wish there was more of the jammy kind of stuff throughout, that was somewhat enjoyable. I think I'm a little biased against CCR, because the vast majority of the time I heard this band before now was when I would drink with friends in a casino and observe these drunk boomers smoking and playing slots for hours, all to the tune of CCR and the stones, not exactly a positive association for CCR.

Creedence albums are almost a cautionary tale about not releasing five albums in just over two years. I saw Up Around The Bend was on this and thought "oh this will be really good". There are other good tunes but there are also a lot of 12 bar chuggers.

Started well with Ramble Tamble, really liked the middle section, and I was thinking that, hey, maybe if I'd been 17 in California in 1971, I might have found CCR quite cool. Sadly, the three bog-standard blues tracks which followed did nothing for me. No disrespect to anyone's musicianship, I just find that sort of thing boring. The next track to stand out for me was Up Around The Bend, which is a great song, but I already knew it and already preferred Hanoi Rocks version... love rhyming 'bend' with 'wind' though, just so darn Southern. Who'll Stop The Rain was nice, and it was a decent version of HITTG (I was hoping for a guitar solo to nod and frown along to, and certainly got one.) I ended on Long As I Can See The Light (rather than listening to an extended version) but unfortunately found it pretty uninspiring again. So overall, a bit meh.

Very varied - much more classic rock and roll than I thought. At its best a cool Led Zep vibe but quite inconsistent for me and feels very lightweight.

A big sign for me on these albums is whether I’d ever reach for it in my collection or even download a tune or two onto my phone maybe? With this, it’s a resounding nope. This is as generically dull, pub band, average as can be, soft rock as I’m ever likely to hear.

I've been hearing these songs since I was a kid, and have never really enjoyed their sound. I've had experiences of coming to be able to hear and appreciate the sounds of other musicians that I once categorized in the same way as CCR, namely Bob Dylan and Neil Young - dudes that I once criticized as being unlistenable, and now I really enjoy their talent a lot. But CCR is not breaking out of that mold for me on this listen to this album. Sorry brothers :/

I like Creedence but it didn’t grasp me

Fogerty's voice is like nails on chalkboard in a few songs. "Up Around the Bend" is alright. But "I hoird it through the grapevine" + seven minutes of jamming is not.

Honestly thought the songs are blurred together and nothing really jumped out to me. But it's also not a genre I really listen to.

This album seems to contain every hit I've ever heard from CCR. Honestly most of it's pretty uninteresting musically, and lyrically is so heavy with old school masculinity (the recurring theme of "my woman left me and I don't know why" is such a bad take - that doesn't just happen for no reason). Very 70s, very "dad" energy, and older than both my parents. Not mad I listened to it, but hoping the list gets better from here.

I wasn't sure about this album, rife with white guy blues riffs and guitar solos which dragged out way too much for me. Although I'm wondering whether it's about context because I think in a sweaty club in the 70s I might have been all for extending those riffs and solos if you're just dancing and riding the high... Maybe sitting working from home and listening in 2023 doesn't quite hit the same...

Largely boring vitalization of Creedence Clearwater Revival's aptly named 'swamp rock', muddy hillbilly musings. Style is enjoyable on more reserved tracks as the campy classic rock boogie-groove of Ooby Dooby and quaint ballad of My Baby Left Me and a wonderful display of endurance and classic blues soloing in the Grapevine cover. The more popular tracks- Travelin' Band and Ramble Tamble really don't grab me.

Highlights: "Up Around the Bend," "Who'll Stop the Rain," "Travelin' Band," "Run Through the Jungle" This album really drags for almost all of the first half before it gets going. A resolute step backwards from Bayou Country. The arrangements can be really rich, and their production has stepped up, but the songwriting has definitely suffered from their grueling output.

I did a review of another CCR album where I said I couldn't ever listen to them without thinking of them as "That band from the Vietnam war films". So I was presently surprised that this was something a bit different. Full on blues. That being said pleasantly surprised is probably the extent of it unfortunately. Although its all done quite well it just made very little impression on me. I just don't like CCR unfortunately and no amount of variations on the formula is going to change that.

Well, the instrumental portions of Ramble Tamble are great, so I was cautiously optimistic going in to the rest of the album. Unfortunately, everything after that first track is just the usual CCR swamp-rat wannabe nonsense.

Who is Cosmo? Why the factory? Why the very backhanded compliment to Marvin Gaye? (I wonder whether this may possessed something of the Eric Clapton/Bob Marley "I Shot the Sheriff" dynamic – or just wishful thinking on the part of CCR?). Anyway. Rather than rubbish an album that is fond to many, I'll simply say that I'll acknowledge this without quite understanding why.

Cosmo Kramer Laugh Factory

Dirty fuckin' hippies. CCR, will always occupy that space on the other side of the peace, happiness and 'love -will-save-us-all' flower power movement for me. Just over that line resides the stinky, up-all-night, bloated excesses with a dirty harmonica in a shirt pocket, otherwise known as Creedence Clearwater Revival. Though listening to this album did not change my, albeit narrow view of the band, I did find enjoyment in that Up Around the Bend intro and the the guitar picking in Ramble Tamble and Run Through the Jungle. However, as with any CCR album there are three things going on here that prevents me from ranking this album higher: 1. FOGERTY SINGING - (not sure which one 'cause I don't care) and his fake-ass southern drawl. These guys are from Cali. 2. That boxcar-harmonica paired acoustic twang-y guitar sound. 3. The dirty fuckin' hippies.

It's fine. Doesn't really do a ton for me but it's pleasant and has some good musicianship. I like the less southern-influenced parts the best honestly.

Grapevine : Il y a clairement 5 minutes de trop dans cette toune... Bon, assez chialé, les drums sonnent bien mettons...

C’est correct. Ça tire en longueur sur tout un album. Visuellement, ça ne fit pas avec la musique. C’est organique par contre et ça fait un bon pont entre rock, blues et country. John Fogerty a vraiment une voix l’fun, mais quand on écoute les track live à la fin, on voit que c’est fragile.

Plusieurs chansons m’étaient familières sur cet album. Pas un grand fan du groupe, mais les chansons plus soul sont bien.

“Oh don’t worry there’s only 2 songs left” and yet here we are 15 mins later still listening to this album. I think it was fun but bland and there’s no holy reason for a cover to last that long.

Creedence hits at something faster, then settles into their groove. Not a bad album: Middle of the road as this list goes. But the main takeaway is the hits, which are less moving than they could be.

Strange album. Bunch of 2 minute songs and then an 11 minute cover of 'Heard It Through The Grapevine' that goes on forever.

I feel like I should have liked this album more than I did. It was a bit to country for my taste, had to control myself from yelling yeehaw a few times

For a brief period during my college years, I really liked CCR and listened to them a lot. I do love John Fogerty's guitar playing, and I absolutely get the importance of this band. That being said, I haven't listened to them in years. Nothing bad about it, just not interested anymore.

Un disco con bastantes canciones famosas de esta banda histórica. Me han gustado: Up around the bend y I heard it through the grapevine. Entiendo que sea un disco famoso con millones de escuchas en Spotify, pero para mi gusto aunque está más o menos bien no creo que se convierta en imprescindible.

It really has an amazing selection of tracks from the era... but i went from appreciating it to not being able to listen to fogerty's voice a long time ago. It deserves better than this, but "rain" and "light" are the only bearable songs.

Overall, the album was ok, I have had one or two tracks before, but not the whole album. The sound of the album with country and rock ties made the album very fun to listen through as every track was different. You can tell that this band helped inspire others and riffs taken by other bands i.e., Led Zeppelin. If I saw the Creedence Clearwater Revival I would have been amazed. The main issue is the way this album has been mixed and produced at least on the Spotify version it sounded very flat. Multiple albums in this time area sound much better even album I have had on this site like Pearl by Janis Joplin. Great albums came out in this period like Paranoid, Kinks & Led Zeppelin. I hope to see a remaster or find a cover version of this album that fulfils the punch this album should have.

I have come to realize, I do not care for majority of older western music. Idk why stuff like this is considered the pinnacle of any and all music, when in reality this stuff is boring as shit. Why do westerners constantly hype up boring shitty ass music like it's the best thing ever? This would have two stars, but I was angry enough to change it to one.

Too much tappy tap hi-hat jarring singer growling and grumbling all the time. Was nice to see where the accident help line jingle came from tho, some songs were nice but the growling was too much

A 2 hour plus work drive back home from Surrey today so I thought I’d give the album a go, made it through to track 4 and thought this isn’t going to change, I’m not going to change and we should part company. Switched to 6 music and managed to catch that Underworld had just released (or dropped as the kids would say) a new album. Swamp rock just ain’t my bag. Nuff said.

This album is my worst nightmare. Radio friendly three chord dribble. No imagination here just lame covers and blues based twangin.

More boring blues dad stuff. A few hits on here have been on permanent radio rotation for 5 decades so have that warm familiarity. His voice is great in its gritty overstretched way. They're not reach for the dial songs, but equally nothing worth seeking out. Very disappointing that 'Who'll Stop the Rain' wasn't the far superior 'Have You Seen the Rain'. It's just totally inessential replacement level rock by numbers - listen to Marvin Gaye or Little Richard or Chuck Berry or Jimi Hendrix instead of their pale imitator.

i think there was a maybe 2 minute overall part of this album that i enjoyed, but other than that, i just didn’t care for it. i wanted to because i realised i quite like folky eclectic and unusual but this just irked me, was glad to be finished.
