Reviews (page 13 of 14)

I really, really wanted to like this, but it felt so bloated and self-indulgent. I wanted to sing along to some killer tunes whilst dancing my nuts off, but I can't imagine dancing to this, and there were no songs with catchy hooks. I really wanted to like this album, but it went nowhere and did nothing for me whatsoever until the last song, which was completely bonkers and saved the whole thing from being a single star letdown.

77/1001 First listen. I feel like maybe I should like this more. It’s enjoyable enough but don’t know that I would seek this out again. I could cut and paste my reviews at this point for some of these albums. Nice to hear the source of the sample used on Rill Rill by Sleigh bells. They make a meal out of Can you get to that. 4/10

es para escucharlo una vez

Weird and wild. Sounded good though for a 70’s funk sound

Really not my thing. Some fun sounds but the opening track is weird and maybe it's just my mood today but I was very much not up for weird. The rest of the album was better, just not for me.

Not for me.

Solid funk mixed with anti-war notes. Mostly drawn out groovin' with a lot of filler, not light hearted. Do things with intensity both fight and love. Musically 2.5 of 5 stars. 1st time listen, wouldn't seek album out again but might listen to a song or two.

A couple of good funk tracks but I could have done without the crying baby and...fart noises? Really? Listened before? N Saved to library? N Favorite track(s): Hit it and Quit It, Super Stupid ⭐⭐: Didn't like it, didn't hate it. Saved no tracks.

Can't deny the musicianship on display here but didn't do much for me. Definitely prefer when there are some vocals to go along with the music though. Found the instrumentals a bit of a slog.

I liked this and I like the vibe of the album, haven’t listened to psychedelia genre much but I enjoyed it. Considered adding 1-2 songs to my playlists

Nothing here held my attentiuon at all. 2 stars or D-.

Pretty forgettable - but not really my usual genre

It was ok

Meh … just meh

look man js not in the mood for a 10 min riff opener rn. and the riffs aren’t ridiculous #tbh. super stupid is kinda a banger tho

mjeeeeeee

2.4/5 Hard to rate with everything going on. What I like is that this group at least tried to blend many things together, so (+) for creativity. On the other hand, the lyrics are point- & soulless, and that's really weird for music that implements elements of Blues and Soul. The guitar solos/parts are cool, but any half-decent session musician can do that, so nothing special here either. Moreover, it doesn't speak for an album if I had to skip through most of the songs since nothing hits really well. The ones that do fuck it up lyrically. I can see why this album is on this list, but so is Elvis Costello. Given that at the time this couldn't even be considered groundbreaking any more with so many other good musicians around, I think that this album is veeery niche and can thus be appreciated by some. For me, only the first song would land in my fav playlist since it doesn't get ruined by other things going on. Also... Wtf is going on with those ratings? Did all the maggots in this world come together to put one big pile of shit on here, consisting of 5 star-ratings? Seriously guys, get your musical taste bearings figured out before you rate something... *Sigh*... This world is lost anyway, why do I even care any more?...

Reminds me a lot of the Seatbelts! Great adlips, sound bites, and intro. Very funky indeed!

I liked the first half of this album but the last two tracks were tough to listen to.

I cannot believe but I knew one song from the album: Can You Get To That! Despite that fact, I wouldn’t say it was my fave music style to vibe with.

Not sure about funk and this didn’t change my mind.

I really loved some moments, but there were too many times that this was straight cacophony. The grating cowbell was awful.

Title track only one that works for me

Again, one of the classics when it comes to the time & genre; however, the psychedelic funk mixed with the bizarre, psychedelic instrumental grooves for the album opener & closer weren’t really doing it for me.

Very odd.

2.0 OK somewhat apologetic for the 2.0 - I'm not a funk guy. Maggot Brain (song, not album) is phenomenal guitar work by Eddie Hazel. During this period, I don't think anyone was using the wah peddle more influentially except possibly Hendrix. HOWEVER - not enough to save this album from George Clinton and the heavy LSD influences. I didn't live through the early 70's but the rest of this album ESPECIALLY Wars of Armageddon is a bad acid trip which I did NOT need to listen to before I died. Still 100% agree this is probably one of the most influential albums of all time (especially for guitarists not just funk guitarists but everyone. There is no doubt a lot of what Prince and others did in the 80's in pop trace to this song.)

...men ändå några småsvängiga passager Svag svag 2a

Title track was pretty cool. Middle was ok. Album ended in fart noises.

Super Stupid

only listened to a couple songs - maggot brain was great but the other songs didn’t grip me. too funky hippy for me

I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.... I just don't get this one. Especially the 10 minute tracks at the start and end. I guess technically it's clever? Well made? I just simply didn't enjoy it.

This was very different. Not really my thing

The first track was not at all what I expected from a band with such a naff name. I was pleasantly surprised with some really good blues guitar. From there Im afraid it, track by track, descended into just as I expected from a band with such a naff name. A couple of tracks were ok but over all a disappointment after a really really good opening track

Umm, I wanted to love this, but honestly it was too funky for me.

It's fun if not necessarily something I need to listen to again. Someone please explain why Wars of Armageddon needed the fart sounds? Unpleasant end to the album. Maggot Brain is super sick and I like the vibes but I don't know that I'd need to listen to it again. 2/5 stars.

I don’t know what to make of this but I cannot see why so many people like this album. I’m glad it’s short.

Guitar in the first 2 minutes of the album is amazing. If this continues across the album I will be rather happy. Ooh those first lyrics were oddly timed and spoken. Odd vibe switch on next few songs. Super Stupid is good. Not a fan of the beat on Back in our minds Hit it and Quit it has odd background vocals. yo what the fuck is the end of wars of armageddon Couldn't get through second listen. Back In Our Minds has such a horrible beat.

They took good music and made it bad. I did vibe to one or two in the middle. Definitely funky. Repetitive however even in the good songs.

It was decent. Glad I listened to it.

Eleven minutes of "I got given a Wah-Wah pedal for Christmas" in, and I'm worried I may be listening to the wrong album. Where's the beat? Where's the groove? Acoustic intro for track two, this cant' be righ-- ah, there it is, it is a bit funky after all. The problem is, it's not perticularly soulful funk, it's a more rock-orientated affair, which is probably how and why Funkadelic became so popular in the first place - they found a niche which nobody else was really catering for. Fair play to them, but this - for my tastes - is all a bit sprawling and unfocused - when it does get into a groove, it hits the spot, but these moments are far and few between. What's Going On was released the same year as this, and that moves me in a way this album simply does not. I know Funkadelic recorded better stuff that this, as an album often celebrated as a landmark recording, I've always been somewhat underwhelmed by Maggot Brain.

Technically good and interesting but not my thing

Wasn't able to finish it. Different though. New to me

Good but other Funkadelic album was better

The first track would be fascinating listen while on something, but I'm not on something, so my listening experience was really not all that. I thought it had some interesting uses of echoes, and repeating guitar licks that change slightly each time they're replayed. The other tracks were great! My favorite was Can You Get To That, with You And Your Folks, Me And My Folks being another honorable mention. Not a fan of how 10 minutes of time was spent on the opener and closer (2/3 of the album). Really wasn't all that, but the few songs between were great!

Hard to listen to. Some good riffs in there, but at least as repetitive as any funk album and the extraneous sounds and sound effects make for a tough listen. Literally ends with a fart.

- Help what? - The first song was mostly instrumental so I probably wouldn't listen again. - The rest of the album was a lot better It was alright but not too rememberable. I would listen to a couple songs again as the album did get better after the first song but overall it wasn't the best.

very new to me, but also very enjoyable!

I wanted to like this, but the singer is truly obnoxious. There are vocalists out there who could have made this work, and I liked the eclectic feel to the music, but this ain't working as-is.

Not really my thing, but not terrible

Funky, I enjoyed it but not really my thing. Clearly quality music but not what I would listen to.

Good guitar riffs but felt like every song dragged on for real

Did not know what to expect for this one. Worth while listen, but nothing really struck a chord.

Second song was ok. Other than that I didn’t like this one.

J - 2/5 Best Track - "Hit It & Quit It" F - 1/5

This was a bit of a mix. Bits I thought were completely pointless and uninteresting (sorry all you 10-minute meandering guitar solo fans out there). Bits I really liked (Can You Get To That, Super Stupid*). Bits were, and I cannot stress this enough, really fucking weird. I listened to this while trying to tame the tomato plants taking over the garden and I was balanced on the edge of the raised borders trying to construct a branch and string contraption when the wet fart noises started and I was so surprised I nearly wobbled into the courgette plants. Wikipedia highlight: "Guitarist Tawl Ross reportedly had a traumatic drug experience after getting into an "acid eating contest, then snorting some raw speed, before completely flipping out", and did not perform with the group again". That is absolutely what parts of this album feel like. I want 2.5 but 2/5 will have to do. * After finding out Audioslave covered Super Stupid, I had a listen after this and it's fantastic.

This album felt like a fever dream, I have no idea why it's on this list as I could have definetly gone my life without listening to it

What the fuck

Okay I was expecting more... funk lol and the whole album to be a lot harder considering it's called Maggot Brain. It's good still, just not the intensity I was expecting going in. I love the variety of sounds in this, the tings and warbles and cuckoo clocks. It's so fun. I will say, I can tell that this is sonically very good, and it's extremely interesting. I'm just not loving it as much as I thought I would. Especially because I'm such a huge fan of funk in general. Lots of jarring add on sounds like women screaming and cats yowling. It's definitely theatrical but it's taking me out of the music so I'm not loving it. I don't know, it feels more like an assignment than music I'd want to listen to. Just not my speed unfortunately.

It's hard to describe, in unique ways, my first impressions when I see and album cover like this. I know - I need an open mind... That's why I'm listening to 1001 different albums I guess. But it's hard boss, hard not to feel a little more dead inside. OK now the first track is 10 minutes and the whole album is just 37 - here goes.... the first half of the self titled track is a Kirk Hammett style solo, a tip toe through the tulips and more wah... the one with the most listens, Can You Get to That is decent. Its got a nice groove, Hazel (the guitarist) is very talented (despite the Kirk Comment) as is obviously George Clinton. It was fine - probably wouldn't seek it out again in a hurry. Gem was Super Stupid - purely for the intro and Hazel.

Eddie Hazel should probably be more celebrated. And I only say probably because I don’t do it enough. Effortless tone, pierces through the mix without being awkward, just gets it all right. There’s a bit too much Hendrix worship going on, but I mean, sure. My main gripe with Funkadelic is they sound like a terrific time live, but it isn’t until Parliament that there are a lot of memorable tunes (maybe more memorable for the samples, tough to say).

very interesting album. i didn’t expect the experimentalness at the last leg of the album. the first song was amazing. i liked it a lot though the flatulence did surprise me. it did fit though.

Kom hier niet echt in, overrated

First of all: WOW DO I HATE THIS ALBUM COVER. I cannot tell you why but its ugly as hell! Second of all: This Album starts in my opinion with an outro third of all: there are parts of this album that i enjoyed fourth of all: i don't know

Good, not great from what I remember

10 minute guitar solo to start the album would have had me turning off if I hadn't had to listen to the whole album. The rest of the album was nothing more than OK.

Probably if its time but just not for me

Not as good as I expected.

Eh I'm not getting it. I fondly remember the opener for its use in House MD, but it didn't click for me this time. The rest of the album made a satisfying change from the opener (god can you imagine if it had all been like that) but still didn't blow me away. Can't be bothered to come back to this one, even if it is a classic.

Not really my style, but was a decent listen. I really liked that first track.

bunch a noise, dont really get it. some songs are somewhat decent. mazbw could listen to 2 songs

Not very interesting. Only good track was "You And Your Folks, Me And My Folks"

Wow. Okay. Yeah. So this is how I found out that Funk is NOT my genre. I'm sure this is groundbreaking music with artistic merit to someone out there but this just sounds like premium elevator music to me (I'm sorry). Some of them are even 10 minutes long and they just kind of blend into the background.

From a band called "Funkadelic", I would have expected more, I dunno, .... Funk. It's rather some typical 70s Blues-oriented rambling. 2/5

We want the funk ... but despite the name this didn't deliver. It was much more of a rock album which still can get you in the groove. But, we wanted the funk

I know nothing about funk and have never even heard of "Funkadelic." And after the first wild guitar blast, I would never have guessed it was funk. Okay, after that, thank goodness, it gets more tame. Not that I like the album better. It doesn't sound fully produced to me, more like the first sessions. Raw! And then comes "Super Stupid," and I know exactly why the song is called that. The effect of "Back In Our Minds" is totally stupid, just like the vocals; only the horn part stands out positively for me. Finally, "Wars Of Armageddon" is more of a war against all listeners. I listened to the album really well because I couldn't believe it. First, what it offers and then all the super positive reviews, I really feel like I'm in the wrong movie. To put it bluntly, I don't like the album at all. It's a wild mess at times, not fully thought through and not fully produced. Yes, it could be that there were too many maggots in the brain, but I'm guessing it was just too many drugs. Hey, the alternative mix of "Maggot Brain" is much better. The keyboard is great and captures the guitar a bit. It's a shame, but if this version had been the starting point for the album, it would have been something completely different, something I would have liked much better. 2 stars for the bonus track, although viewed individually, it deserves more.

Iconic cover art, iconic opening title track with an iconic spoken word bit at the beginning. Shame the rest of the album is nowhere near as iconic. Key tracks: Maggot Brain

Could have been a solid 3, with the titular song being a very strong opener almost serenading the listener. The songs in between had a mix of funk and rhythm which definitely was on the pleasant side but not necessarily enough to make the whole album a target for a re-listen. Then came Wars of Armageddon which definitely drops this album to a 2 as punishment for the assault of the senses with the different sound effects.

guitar driven widdly widdly funk. Nothing for me really

It may be a cornerstone in Funk music, but I die of boredom and ear bleed. Self indulgent drug funk.

Some good tracks in the middle. The sound effects in the last track really put me off though.

Title track is gorgeous. The rest of them aren't my thing.

That intro for the first song kinda creeped me out not gonna lie. I’m sure in 1971 that was a little eyebrow raising. Pretty decent here. Nothing too cray for me.

Weird, and I don't care for it

The title track is great, but I didn't like the rest

4/10 - it was not very enjoyable. Boring guitar for a bit and mid music the rest of the time

Thought I’d like this more than I did, but no…

Funky but meh

I find the esoteric fiddly guitar kind of boring :(

I understand why this album is important for me to hear, and overall I don't regret listening to it, but it is not my taste. I like the opening guitar solo and the rest of the songs were fine. It kinda dragged for me despite being a shorter album. Last song had like farting and cow mooing. Not sure what that was all about. Overall I understand why people like it but Maggot Brain is just not for me.

Just boring. Tim: “It was … challenging.”

Some funk. Not enough.

I'm not funky enough to enjoy

34/1001 - Guitar wanking, some okay funk-rock, and a bunch of screaming and farting over an unchanging cowbell groove.

This album was alright. Every song was pretty good, besides the opening, and closing tracks, while "Super Stupid" was in like 5 leagues of its own. Overall it was just another solid album. 2.5 Favorite Song: Super Stupid Least Favorite: Wars of Armageddon

One or two tracks were good, but overall it felt like a novelty album where the novelty wore off pretty quickly. Then it was just bland noise for a while.

Why an album with an intro that was way too long, and a song with fart noises, has lots of good reviews is beyond me 2 ⭐️

Uhhhh. Huh. I don’t get it. This is like a legendary album. And I don’t really understand why. I’ve heard funkier. I’ve enjoyed funkier! It’s I guess…kinda experimental? But I’ve heard better experiments. There’s farts at the end. And a power to the pussy chant. Is that…about Armageddon? Is it meant to be a joke? I don’t get it!

A bit too offbeat. Some highs but some real lows. 2/5

Couldn't get through it. Have up after a few songs.

Starts off sounding promising with the strange spoken word bit at the beginning, followed by that great long instrumental opener. But I wasn’t into much of the album after that first 10 minutes. The final track sounds like they’d just bought a sound effects pack and had to try all the clips out.

Showed promise at the beginning but devolved into a bit of a jam session later on.

So yes, there is one song on this album that is vaguely familiar. But does that song really hold so much weight that album is worth listening to? No. This was mediocre at best. Didn’t hate it enough to give it a 1. So it will get a 2 for not resonating with me at all. Which is almost worse than a 1. At least a 1 can produce negative feelings from me.

Not horrible. Not coming back to it though.

Sometimes interesting, but not durably interesting.

First track is fantastic. Every other song is boring to bad.

Some good parts, but rambling and really guitar heavy

This started fine but then the fart noises began....

Vähiten lemppari: Wars of Armageddon

gonna be real. nothing on this one hit. however, it wasn’t offensively bad, so it gets a 2

Saved Prior: Can You Get To That Off Rip: Super Stupid Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: If he made this today Wars Of Armageddon would've had a Vine boom

liked the title track. Truly spectacular!

not for me at all

I don’t know. Didn’t hate, didn’t like

11/11/24

First time listen for me. I like Funkadelic, but man, 10 min of guitar noodling on the opening track was a weird choice. The quality of the rest of the album didn't make up for having to endure that, in my book.

irritating

A bit underwhelming. Some funky rhythms here and there but never really got into it. It’s funny, I see this album art in lots of places but yeah didn’t live up to the hype

It sure ain't to no P Funk

We all know George is a funky dude and this album brings some old school to the turn-table. The tunes are pretty good for background but I can't stay I grooved that much. The guitar jams are not that engaging. Final track was best but long. The album cover shows is best thing about the album and shows up as an icon of the era consistently. Overall not a bad listen but I look forward to some later George with the Parliament to make the list...2.

Personal enjoyment: 2/5 Relevance to this list: 4/5

Weird album.

WERE THEY BUSTING ASS ON THAT LAST TRACK????

Like the music and enjoy funk, but I just don't have it on regular rotation.

Some brilliant moments spread among borderline annoying and monotonous lines. Not sure if their other albums are like this but I was not very impressed.

A little too funky.

The opening psychedelic rock instrumental was unexpected, as was the origin for the sample in Sleigh Bells “Rill Rill” on the second track. Then Funkadelic moved into a funkier and more anticipated direction. There is some good mix of funk and psychedelic rock, but things fall off the rails with “Back In Our Minds.” Maybe not quite as bad as “One Nation Under A Groove’s” "Promentalshitbackwashpsychosis Enema Squad (The Doo Doo Chasers)," but still bad enough to kill the vibe.

Some really good funk tracks, a lot of weird psycadelia too though 2 stars

Maggot Brain - Pretty cool intro, I like some of the guitar, but overall not something I'd listen to again Can You Get To That - Yeah the vocals here are not for me. Not a fan. Hit It and Quit It - I like the energy of this one, but the music really doesn't do much for me. But it's a decent groove. You And Your Folks, Me And My Folks - Similar thoughts to the last song. The energy is pretty fun, but the melodies, vocals, etc, really don't do anything for me. Super Stupid - Starting off strong, I like the opening riffs and melodies. But the vocals aren't my cup of tea. Guitar solo is pretty sick though. Probably my favorite song so far, but most likely won't save it on Spotify. Back In Our Minds - Yeah the vocals here are not for me. This one is not great. Wars Of Armageddon - Is that a baby crying? Yeah it actually is. Maybe it's the Gen Z/Millenial in me, but long ass songs don't hold my attention very well. Guitars are pretty cool but I can tell the song isn't for me and I'm only 2.5 minutes in. It didn't get any better after 2.5 minutes. There are literal fart noises at 7:30 Overall - I respect the album for what it's doing, it's just not my personal taste. Would not revisit.

I like Parliament ordinarily but this album by Funkadelic left me cold. I was waiting big bold and brassy, and got dark, brooding and weird.

Bit weird this one

Can you get to that

Hated the wars of armageddon, and the long ass intro song. but it was fun to hear that sleigh bells sampled a part of Can You Get To That in Rill Rill.

Packt mich nicht **

I wasn't too fond of this. Not sure why this is even on the list to be honest.

I like the vibe but the music just doesn’t do it for me. Too many meandering jam tracks, and the rest of it doesn’t feel memorable

Not sure

Title song is great obviously More farts than most albums on the list

Ok background music, but not really for me.

Maybe need to be drunk and brooding to appreciate it more

I didn’t care much for this one

Cool dance music cluttered with cacophonic nonsense.

Legendary guitar solo.

Clearly the minority opinion here but I was very disappointed by this album.

Would I listen to it again: yes Is it a no-skip album: no Do I like it: ok

I don't understand how this is any good.

Maggot Brain: gets a little too quiet and boring halfway through. Super Stupid: I've heard this before! I like it but I don't love it. It's not all there. It feels like part of a great song. Wars of Armageddon: has farting noises for a while; very strange.

Not a fan…

Better than I expected.

- can you get to that - back in our minds

I like funk and this album was a fun listen but definitely let me wanting more in comparison to other Funkadelic and Parliments music.

one song was ok

If I ever considered rating this higher, the screaming cats on the final track killed that thought.

For such a short album, it takes ages to get going. The first 2/3 seems to be just about it finding its way, then right when you finally want more it’s over! 1.8

Better than a funk album should be. Still nothing more than background music

Funky indeed, but also crap

Funky album that sounds a bit like an acid trip would sound

I found this to be annoying. First track is ok, but too long, and the album fades from there.

Loved the first song, Maggot Brain. The guitar licks reminded me of Jimi Hendrix. The rest of the album felt repetitive and at times cacophonous.

Fucked up funky music, but not bad, but not my cup of tea either

I bet seeing them play this live was an awesome experience. I wasn’t sure where we were going with the 10 minute instrumental right off the bat, but I liked the rest of the album.

Miksi?

Not really my thing though it was okay for background listening whilst working. Most likely a one and done listen.

Very noisy, experimental and free form. Felt primal. Could be a great soundtrack for an LSD trip

Not very mind blowing

Overall didn't like this. Quite an original concept but of its time nevertheless. A couple of tracks were a little Hendrixesque, especially vocally. Overall not really my thing.

Not bad, sometimes interesting, but sometimes kinda boring to me. 2.5/5

Not for me.

Essentially like it but too much of it is just too weird for me

Nothing special

Expected it to be funky, but leaned more Hendrix-esque rock

its ok

Terrifying album cover. Not quite what I expected. I guess it was pretty funk. Thought there'd be more lyrics.

Extremely overrated. A lot of noise, very little funk. Probably one of the shittiest album openers of all time.

Favourite Song: Maggot Song I loved the opening, which made me really excited for the rest but it did seem to fade from my attention as it went through.

This album made me feel sad. I commend them for translating feelings to music but… ugh.

Did not realize how dreary a funk album can be, well I guess that’s the adelic part. I can’t say I enjoyed it, even the guitar solo which was done amazingly didn’t really have much to play off. The last song on the album, made me think I was going a little insane which I’m sure was intentional. Very creative and interesting just can’t say I enjoyed listing to it. The album cover matches the mood of the album and I thought was better than the music within.

Recording quality is great but too psychodelic, feel like I need to be on something to fully enjoy. Great technical achievement but not sold on the artistic side, some great tunes in the middle but the opening and especially the closing tracks are not my favorite.

I was over stimulated and didn't fully enjoy the album because of it.

The first song was the best.

Didn't care for it.

Not a fan....could not relate to any of the songs...crazy compilation of music.

A bit weird, frankly

Not a huge funk fan. First song really through me off for the entire album

1st track has a very Hendrix-esque solo... That is my only positive

This is some crazy stuff to listen to when at work. I'm hard-pressed to think, "What am I in the mood for? 'Maggot Brain'!"

She’s good. I woke up singing her song though, that was a bit annoying and cost 1 star.

What's with all the farting noises? Otherwise quite funky.

Not for me. It wasn't bad and I like the first track, but I found the rest of the album to drag. The songs were all pretty long and some of them felt repetitive.

Didn’t draw me in at all. Beginning was confusing and the rest okay. Just not my jam

it's pretentious and incredibly extra, but seeing what they've pulled off here in the context of 1971 it sure is very impressive. I enjoy it somewhat, but every so often the excessiveness of some musical phrases and sounds takes me completely out of the zone. Maybe it's just my untrained ears not appreciating what they're hearing, but for me, for right now, all of this is just WAY too much.

Was in the background. Nothing grabbed my attention

Album in Deutschland unvollständig auf Spotify. Glücklich und entspannt etwas zu langsam. Expermental Musik.

2+ Stars (6/15)

Sympa mais sans plus, pas incroyable.

LSD inspired album. Some songs sound like Jimi Hendrix Experience

For a band called Funkadelic there was a supreme lack of funk on this album. The intro song/guitar solo was nice, but the rest of album seemed a bit tame compared to other funk pieces on this list.

pink floydy

I didn't expect a 10-minute guitar instrumental track to start the album - I kind of liked that one. The rest of the album was closer to what I expected from Funkadelic. The last track (Wars of Armageddon) was annoying to listen to, and it's also 10 minutes, so that one brings down the album.

It might be a classic, but it's a slog to listen to, won't be revisiting this one.

First song is the only great one

Maggot brain sounds super cool, not my style though

Nothing really spoke to me about this album.

Some interesting ideas but it lacked cohesion and structure.

Nicht so meins…

Pretty experimental. especially with the first and last tracks. Not a fan

To jam bandy. Good grooves but too loose.

Good funk. I don’t like funk.

First song is mesmerizing, rest of the album not so much.

Not really for me

A little too quirky free form for me. I was going to say it's good background ambient music but some of the repetitive percussion gets grating

Some parts I liked and some parts not so much

Honestly bored the balls clean off me

A lot of weird noises. Not bad music, definitely not for me though.

Terrible

This was one wild and wacky album. It felt like one long drug fueled jam session, though not always consistent or even coherent. It starts off one way, kind of calm, and completely becomes something crazy by the end. The last track is so insane, it might actually be the most genius thing to ever be created. I think I am just too normie to get it. 2.5 funky farts out of 5.

Not my cuppa tea

Catfish, the album. The first song is really good

This was some ok funk. Not good enough to hole my attention though.

heavy and groovy at its best moments, unlistenable and obnoxious at its worst. opening solo is cool but overly long and masturbatory. vocals are whack. saved by some creative guitar work. 2/5

Not for me, basically a funk rock jam session.

I will instantly forget this album, only remembering that the title track is some impressive guitar spread over 10 minutes. Can appreciate the musicianship, just not for me.

Loved the cover of this one. It could have been a poster for a Beckett play. Wish the songs could’ve been as interesting and existential as a Beckett play. Weirdly I thought the first song sounded like they were trying to be Pink Floyd and then the rest turned out to be fairly innocuous. Ironically, my favourite song was “whole lot of BS.”

Was close to almost liking the music but then it went into a direction that I didn't enjoy as much. Some jarring noises added that ruined it for me.

I mean its funky but yeah idk

The album was short but the songs were long. I don’t really like the ‘jam band’ genre, but these funky jams were better than Phish.

Meh. I honestly never understood people's love for this album. One Nation Under a Groove is a good album; this one just feels like a lot of noodling.

I tried multiple times. I just don't get it

Not the best Funkadelic

I usually do 'one to sing in the shower' but this time i'm doing 'one for the karaoke' because i would, in some dive bar, select the first track and air guitar the shit out of it on stage. Right in front of the down and outs. It would be like Napoleon dancing the skit, and that bar would erupt i tell you.

Alright, that title -- whew! Getting past that (and the bizarre flatulence noises at the end of the album) and this was an enjoyable, fun album to have in the background while I worked. Doubt I'll seek it out again (so 2 stars) but enjoyed it more than I expected

Funky. But didn’t capture my attention.

Tracks: Best To Worst 1. Maggot Brain 2. Can You Get To That 3. Wars Of Armageddon 4. Super Stupid 5. Hit It And Quit It 6. Back In Our Minds 7. You And Your Folks, Me And My Folks Final thoughts: This album is definitely high on LSD, most of the songs were all over the place, specifically the first and last. It opens with a black man telling us we fucked the Earth (figuratively and literally) and leads off into a 10 minute guitar solo which I have to say is excellent. Supposedly the guitar was told in the first half to think his mother died, then in the second half she survived, very odd. The last song is a culmination of explosions and fart noises, very odd as well. The entire album is one drug induced black trio which I enjoyed fair enough. 6/10

funk NA com jazz e soul, 2/5

Just didnt feel it. Its not bad just not for me.

I've been funked senseless after listening to this. What do you want to know?

Too much

A little too jammy, so not really my jam

Not rlly my cup of tea, it was a nice vibe tho

Wanted to give this a fair chance but just couldn't. Already not a favourite genre of mine but it felt also that half the album was just kinda a waste of time. The first track was an okay instrumental that lacked any real highlights or any that warranted it being 10 minutes long. Then followed a few rather short songs, one as unspectacular and forgettable as the other before we arrived at the closing track, Wars of Armageddon. This one should have been called Noise of Armageddon and is really a 10 minute shittake. And I don't mean the Asian mushroom! The kind of noise and sounds that are in there make you go wtf is this.and even after sitting through all of it, I still wonder what exactly the point or purpose of this was. This one did feel like a waste of 36 minutes and left me with no choice but to hand out another 2 stars

Not a fan. Of its time in the worst ways. Favorite part was the "indulgent" guitar solo to open the album.

A lot of this seemed like a jam session. One of the songs had random noises including a mooing cow.

I was excited about this .......before I listened to it, then I was inevitably disappointed. 2*

Groovy. Experimental. Insane bookend of two 10 min tracks.

Funk trifft LSD. Hatte ich mir unterhaltsamer vorgestellt.

Not a huge fan. Too funky and random

The title track is not very funky and is way too long. Tracks 2-6 are pretty good with Super Stupid being my favorite. Track 7, Wars of Armageddon is wayy too long and is not good. Especially when you get to the fart sounds around 8 minutes in. Bonus tracks are not bad with the exception of the \"Maggot Brain Alternate Mix\", which is somehow worse than the original. I had high hopes for this album, but it definitely wasn't what I was expecting.

Wasn’t really felling jt.

For me, just a bit too experimental.

It's ok.

2/5 nope!

It had a couple of good songs, but for the most part was kind of meh. 0RS

Would have rather it been all instrumental. The massive amount of repetitive phrases was annoying, especially the last song.

It was okay. Maggot brain was enjoyable, the rest was whatever.

the first song was not for me, some of the funky ones where ok

Super long ceebs

Feels a bit too slow and samey

A bit noisy for me

Funky town it’s was alright hey

This album is bonkers. Starts and finishes with 10 minute jams, which make up two thirds of the album time. I didn't really care for these. The 15 mins of the the middle 5 tracks is much better, particularly 'You and your folks, me and my folks' which is very Black Sabbath-esque. Just when you think it can't get weirder, the last track has cuckoo clocks, mooing cows, monkey noises & hissing cats. Overall, maybe too weird to return to, but definitely not boring!

Maggot brain was by far the best track. Wouldn’t rush to listen to the whole album again, lots of cow bells in the tracks.

Track 2- sample for Rill Rill by Sleigh Bells was a surprise, probably my favourite track also. Bit of a scattered album with more jam than a kid’s lunchbox. I think I’ve been put off long guitar solos at live gigs- Impressive, but don’t add much and can stall the vibe.

Really psychedelic, hard for me to listen through

Way too much instrumental that is too long for me to care.

Pretty good for pyscadelic/acid rock. Not normally something I'm drawn to, but this is a little more funk, so it is ok.

That was rough listening to. Lots of noises like a kid was playing instruments in the background. Would have given it a zero if I could, but maggot brain made it a 1.

Funkadelic's third album is a 36 minute hodgepodge that combines funk's repetitiveness with rock's most narcissistic tendencies, resulting in a lot of self-indulgent repetition that sounds like it was fun to make but is ultimately tedious as hell to listen to.

Not really for me unfortunately.

If I was big into guitars I'd enjoy this but unfortunately I'm not and didn't.
