This is some pretty sweet funk

A very interesting funk sound. Love the drum play newr the end so much

Crazy fun funk.

Whoever mixed this album forgot about my left ear. Still a pretty good album. Silly, even. Sad that the bonus tracks are unavailable on Spotify, but it still ends on PussyFarts. 3.5/5. Wish we could give half ratings on this app.

Pretty funky stuff, but wasn't massively sucked into it like some of the Parliament stuff. The title track was best I think.

It's a genre I'm not used to listening to but it still sounds good, brings good vibes, and could be good for just playing in my room in the background. However, the songs kind of drag out too long for me to go and listen to any songs again or put them in my playlists.

2/7, 29%

This truly was a funky album with plenty of psychedelic vibes, which comes as no surprise considering its arrival at the turn of the decade. There is lots of outstanding guitar work in here, too! While I won't necessarily say this album blew me away, it was certainly an interesting and fun listen!

Not huge fan of the first song, but the album itself was funky. Not a bad listen.

Catchy disco vibes

trippy!

pretty good, my introduction to Funkadelic, started really nice

love the farting sounds at the end...

Get-a-down, get-a-funnkeeeeee!

Decent funk album

The first and last songs were just so weird but interesting. I liked it much more than I thought I would. I think if there had been something more I would give a 4, but this is a pleasant 3.

Maggot brain - Can you get - 3.8/5 Hit it and quit it - 3.8/5 You and your folks, me and my folks - 3.9/5 Super stupid - 3.8/5 Back in our mind - 3.6/5 Wars of Armageddon - 3.6/5

It was good, not memorable at all for me.

Much more rock than I was expecting

3/5. Not my favorite Funkadelic but some of the songs still jam.

Wouldn’t be my choice but for a 1971 album this contains a surprising blend of influences and musicianship. Probably a good band to have seen live.

This was great!

Mmmm maggoty

the early songs are really cool but this is another one that devolves into noise 3.5

A beautiful mix of funk and psychedelic grooves and with enough dirty liks to make me do the stank face on a few occasions well done. Parts made me think it was birthed out of a sweaty love between Jimi Hendrix and Santana. I could defiantly get into more of this.

Trevligt omslag och välspelat. Kanske bättre än vad jag tycker just nu.

nice 3.8

Some of the songs had fantastic guitar, but it was balanced out by the weird noises they decided to include.

Not particularly memorable.

Jam funk.

This is a very groovy album. Most of the guitar work is pretty nice and the drums are dynamic enough. The problem is I don’t find much of it very interesting, they all kind of blend together. It doesn’t help that two 10 minute songs start and end the album and then the rest are just clashed in the middle that barely up 15 minutes. It feels too short a lot of the time. Overall it’s not horrible though and it has its good moments but this definitely isn’t a favorite.

At times brilliant and at times just weird as hell. The musicianship is fantastic, particularly that of Eddie Hazel.

Snazzy but I'm not cool enough to like the first song

Score: 60 The first track isn't really great because it's mixed in such a way that the white noise hissing is very loud. The last track isn't great because it's crying babies, animals yelping and loud wet farts set to a funky beat. All the other tracks are good which leaves you with 15 minutes of good music. Very cool. 50 years later and everyone is still racist and farting

Det är vad det är

Very Hendrix. Straight ahead funk rock. Unnecessary sound effect noodling son Armageddon and Back In Our Minds is the weakest song. High 3 - good.

So George Clinton says to Eddie Hazel, play your guitar like your mother just died so we got this 10 minute minor masterpiece. The rest of the album is uneven and not very cohesive unfortunately. The album is book-ended by another 10 min opus, Wars of Armageddon that was supposedly recorded when Clinton was high on LSD - and it sounds like it, full of crazy lyrics, and fart sounds. More pussy to the people!

shred in the first song is insane, the distortion and the reverb is crazy the rest was kinda mid, not as good as the opening track

I've listened to this one a few times over the years, and it is definitely groundbreaking. However the second half just drags for me for some reason. The first half is just fantastic though.

1971. Can You Get To That, Hit It and Quit It, You And Your Folks, Me And My Folks

Might not be into it right now but it’s very interesting.

Fun and interesting - will probably listen to a couple songs again

Some werd spacy funky rockin stuff

I like it, I respect it, but I wouldn’t search it out.

Prva stvar > sve ostalo. 3.5

This is an album I'll never listen to again, basically someone fucking about on a guitar for 30mins. While I did enjoy parts of the guitar work, the album as a whole was not that interesting. Highlights were "Hit it and Quit it" and "Maggot Brain".

Solid funk rock album. Good grooves here, but both the long bookend tracks are a bit too much psyche for me. Not terrible, but not amazing.

Solid 70s funk. Pretty much by definition. Took a strange turn with all the farts at the end.

Rock leaning, which isn’t my thing. But can appreciate the conscious lyrics.

I mean it's alright. Can't ever imagine think ooh I must listen to Maggot Brain. If I was 30 years younger and wasted I'd probably feel different but it's just not the kind of music that features in my life anymore. 2½ out of 5.

Helluva opening; this stereo, fuzzy wah guitar tone would make both Hendrix and Jerry Cantrell drool. The rest of the album was ok; fun to listen to, but didn't necessarily keep me engaged. Very nice as background music, just not a lot there for active listening.

Liked parts of this quite a bit, but overall a little same-y. 3.49/5

not bad

First half was badass, psychedelic, funky and experimental jams. The last few songs were just sounds, alarm clocks and bells dinging. Overall I did enjoy listening and will be adding some George Clinton to my playlists.

Fuck a ballick

I need a documentary or long-form explanation of how Parliament, Funkadelic, P-Funk, et. al. intertwine, but for the moment, I'll voice a generalized impression that the whole Funkadelic universe was more influential and impactful than it gets credit for. I heard so many elements that seemed to filter into later music — Sly and The Family Stone and James Brown and others deserve similar credit, as well (and get it) — and George Clinton has a singular ability to make a record sound like a party. With a funky backbeat. I think a 3-star rating is under selling this album, but it was hampered by the opening title track, which I didn't really get the point of, and my need to listen more (and more intently) to the songs to really appreciate what's going on here.

Not the Funkadelic vibe I expected but I enjoyed nonetheless. Had I played this album outside of this experiment, it’s likely I would have abandoned the album on the first song simply because it lacks the hard funk I expect from Funkadelic. Like most, I put on George Clinton and I want to get funked up. But sticking with it I got to You and Your Folks, Me and My Folks and deemed it my favorite track on the album. This album came out on my 4th birthday. I wonder if I caught it on any airwaves back then?

First off, I have heard and loved some of Eddie Hazel's solo work before, but had no idea that he was part of Funkadelic. That explains some of the excellent guitar work such as on Super Stupid. Unfortunately, a lot of the superb guitar work gets lost in the subpar production. Unfortunately, this duality holds true for my entire opinion on Maggot Brain. There are some really fantastic tracks that I feel absolutely deserve 5 stars such as Super Stupid, but then also very annoying/unpleasant parts such as the last two tracks. 3.5 stars for me. Easy 4 if the production were better and easy 5 if the last two tracks would live up to the previous ones along with better production.

Funkadelic is Pink Floyd for people who are really tired of the fact that Pink Floyd has only like two songs you can actually dance to. I know it's the most divisive track on the album, but I absolutely love "Wars of Armageddon". It's such an absolute trainwreck of a song, that only a genius could have pulled it off. Singing "Power of the pussy" followed by a solid minute of fart sound effects? Genius. Without a single shred of irony. The title track "Maggot Brain" is crazy as well. That guitar solo could bring a skeleton back to life. That being said, I'm not the biggest fan of songs 2 through 6, they're clearly very well made but just not for me. Lacking in the fart sound effect department.

Honestly this seemed a little half baked to me. George Clinton is a legitimate genius so obviously there is still a lot in it, but I definitely not at the top of my list as far as his output goes.

They know how to groove and bring the funk - I was expecting more from this though, ended up feeling underwhelmed.

Was not expecting the absolute prog intro guitar song. Definitely went on about 3 mins too long but sounded neat. Rest of the tracks tracked a bit more of what I expected, but overall very nice psych-funk-rock in the tradition of Parliament and a bit of Hendrix. The repetition of the titles and lyrically swirling around that is kind of fun, not typical anymore. They’re all having a good ole time for sure.

Starts strong, then kinda meh

Weird - besides the over wrought two songs that bookend this record, the rest is solid funk tracks that stand the test of time. Pity that the psychedelic noise fest bring this otherwise fine record down.

Nice discovery for me, title track was quite a trip and the rest of the album was some nice funk.

Initially I was skeptical when the weird spoken intro to the title track started but that was quickly dispelled by the epicness of the rest of it. The other tracks on the album stand in weird contrast with nothing really notable. Wars of Armageddon tries to recapture some of the feel of Maggot Brain but wrecks it with the bizarre pussy lyrics.

More rock than funk

Very funky

This is so different and so interesting to listen to! I find it different than One Nation Under A Groove. Does not make me want to get up and move in the way that album does. How did they get away with using sketchy language in that era? Maggot brain is a strange title and the cover is a little scary. Have not yet discovered if there is some symbolism there. A little grating to the ears at times but some parts are nice in an interesting way to listen to. You find yourself thinking, what will they do next?

kind of fun music. But not something to put on speakers.

Now I know why the title track of this album is considered a classic. Really superb guitar improvisation, remarkable for its creativity and technical proficiency. It’s the high point of the album, the rest seems rather run of the mill to me…

Favourite Song: Can You Get To That One for the Karaoke: Hit it & Quit It One for the Car: Maggot brain. Could imagine floating around Los Santos doing bits to this

Favourite Song - You and your folks.m, me and my folks One for karaoke - Maggot Brain (just done some mad interpret dancing) One for a run - Super Stupid Great start to the album and some funky a fuck songs. For some I just wanted even more funk. Why hold back the funk? Just go funk to the wall I saw.

The album has some decent funky music with some very slow going just non vocal music but overall a good funky album and consistent

Maggot brain pretty good

pretty throwaway except maggot brain which is deep as fuck

Great guitar solo on the title track.

5 exrellas

shit slaps fr. no further elaboration.

This is funk at its finest.

Honestly, never listened to this and was not familiar with Funkadelic. That said, I was impressed with this album and Eddie Hazel. Hazel's guitar work, especially on "Maggot Brain" and "Super Stupid" was very good.

Love Maggot Brain (Song). The rest of the album has promise. 3/5

This album cover looks familiar... 3 stars. Good listen. Awesome guitar work.

decent funk, prob didn’t listen enough

This morning when I listened to the album, I was still feeling too sleepy to enjoy its fun but hectic mood. I do love the way everything sounds a bit messy, like the Rolling Stones in the 70's, but the first and the last songs feel too long and self-indulgent for me. I think I prefer all the songs in-between because they put the messiness within the compact structure of a pop song and thus rein it in a bit. My favorite part is the bass in You And Your Folks, Me And My Folks.

I didn't like the title track despite finding it sort of curious. But the energy picks up so much after that. All the parts work very well together in Can You Get To That and Hit It and Quit It and they're melodically catchy as well. This kind of music always sounds like the artists are having fun, which is nice. I also liked how the sonic identity stayed consistent through the album but the mood shifted across songs: for instance, the chill "yeah yeah yeah"s of You and Your Folks leading into the much more aggressive guitar of Super Stupid, which was followed by the Motown vibes of Back in Our Minds. This is not totally my kind of music but it was interesting.

It has its moments but its also kind of goofy

This was an enjoyable listen.

Cool funk and vibe. But not something I’d listen to again by choice.

Not as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

Sure, must hear. The title track is great. But the album all-in is a mess. Sounds like a lot of fun live tho. [prior rate]

A strange album bookends by 2 10 minute guitar wig out tracks.. The rest of the album contains more regular 3 minute songs that are frequently rocky but still contain some funky grooves.

Guitarrero y setentero.

Mixing is a bit off in many places. Too much reverb etc. Could be a lot better if mixed and mastered right.

Quite liked this but it got a bit weird.

Not bad!

I already said this before and I stand for my opinion: the Pink Floyd-ish guitar trip/workout that occupies a quarter of the record, not for me. Indeed for me this album begins with the second song, I Want To Know. Sly And The Family Stone vibes on Hit And Quit It. When Super Stupid came up I thought I was listening again to Jimi Hendrix. With Back In Our Minds we go back to a more funk territory, straying away from rock in a way. Wars Of Armageddon ends the record with a nice wild jam. But farts? Ok! It is a nice funk rock album but I prefer some other Parliament/Funkadelic albums to this one.

Starts brilliantly, but the weirdness of the last couple of tracks got in the way for me.

It's an adventurous album with some cool sounds. Some of the tracks are sublime funk, others are just annoying and drag on and on.

Hit and miss. Loved the track ‘maggot brain’

Lmao. Lol. Haha, in fact.

Probably good if you're into this kind of stuff, I can appreciate the artistry but not really for me

Cool, buena vibra. Me gustó.

yeah nice 1. still hate guitar solos sorry.

I have a lot of love for Parliament/Funkadelic but have always preferred the funkier side of things There is some great stuff here (the title track in particular) but You and Your Folks... is a bit annoying with its warbling reverb, and the closing track was a bit much

Funkadelic by name and nature.

A bit too jammy at parts but still some good funk

I found it to be closer to Hendrix and Cream than 70s funk. Great voice and guitar work but nothing truly exceptional throughout.

Real mixed feelings about this one. I wanted to like it more than I did, I think. That delay though. Maybe deserves an extra star just for the delay.

Not bad

Every time I listen to this album, I'm put in a better mood. Great funk music will do that to you. 3.5

I love the first song

The song 'Maggot Brain' is a great piece of guitar, in fact the guitar throughout consistently hits the right places for me. But aside from this almost everything else about the album is a miss for me. I don't mind a mix of long and short songs but then they have no lyrics it makes it hard to engage.

fart noise

Just okay

Nice music, feels like Hendrix took part. Pity they don't do this anymore.

Zappa feelings

Really interesting album, wasn’t sure what i was going to hear.

The best of this album IMO: - Maggot Brain - Can You Get To That - Hit It and Quit It I need to listen to this album while high lol. I recognize how it's a classic but I can't rate it more than 3.3/5. Groovy as hell though.

The title track (and first 3rd of the album) is fantastic - not really "funk" at all. Some great guitar riffs and solos. Almost sounds like an atmospheric intro to a Mars Volta track. After that it is "funk" but still not too bad

Really captured me at the start, but found myself losing interest as the album progressed. Production didn't blow me away either

Alright

I was definitely expecting something else, the title suggested a Funk/Soul album, but this is definitely a rock album and I can definitely notice the psychedelic aspects of it, similar to Pink Floyd. The opening song is crazy. The guitar riff reminds me in a way to Shine on you crazy diamond and I love it. The long duration is also again similar to Pink Floyd's song. I enjoyed the second and third song as well, and the guitar on all songs is amazing. The fourth and fifth song were okay, but definitely won't be listening on repeat like the rest. Back in our minds was a bit weirder, but still enjoyed. I'm not sure about wars of Armageddon though, a lot more experimental, where I enjoy certain aspects of the song, such as the cool drum patterns and the guitar parts, but not a fan of the baby sounds and all of the alarms, like how does a cow moo or 30 seconds of fart sounds add anything to the song? It's just a big clump of sounds that sound super messy at certain parts in my opinion. Feels like they went a bit too far on this one, but glad to see they at least tried something different. It's cool to have the three extra songs, but again I won't be listening to them on repeat either, except for I miss my baby. In general, loved the first few songs, and the guitar throughout the whole album doesn't fail to impress me. I haven't heard anything else from Funkadelic, but cool to see they have tried something out of the standards.

Yeah, this album is really trippy for 1971... feels like it's made a lot later than it actually is. Also, for some reason, I expected this to be more like the later P-Funk stuff.

I'm struggling to see how a band called Funkadelic releases an album called Maggot Brain. That's like a pop punk album name. Anyway, yeah, alright.

too funky for me at times, but first piece is excellent solo, seems a bit off with the rest. Don´t know what to think of this band.

Not as great as I'd hoped. Obviously familiar with the Funkadelic / Parliament combo, but can't say this set the heart pumping.

Interesting. Funky. Life changing? Nah.

Enjoyable but failed to move me somehow. Having different weather might have helped

Popular music scholar Yuval Taylor described it as "a burning hot prefiguring" of the music that Miles Davis would perform on his 1975 live album Agharta. Other sources say the title is a reference to band leader George Clinton finding his brother's "decomposed dead body, skull cracked, in a Chicago apartment." According to legend, the 10-minute title track was recorded in one take when Clinton, under the influence of LSD, told guitarist Eddie Hazel to play as if he had been told his mother was dead The cover artwork depicts a screaming black woman's head coming out of the earth; it was photographed by Joel Brodsky and features model Barbara Cheeseborough In 2003, Rolling Stone ranked Maggot Brain #486 on the magazine's list of 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, with the magazine raising its rank in 2012 to #479, calling it "the heaviest rock album the P-Funk ever created". In the 2020 reboot of the list, the album's rank shot up to #136.

6 out of 10

Sure, must hear. Maggot Brain is great. But the album all-in is a mess. Sounds like a lot of fun live tho.

Didn’t know this was part of Parliament Funkadelic! Had heard “Can You Get To That” before. Loved the lyric “I had life or rather life had me”. Feels fitting as today is my last day at the Paley Center.

Syret, underligt, musiklokale weirdness trip. Men også lidt godt indimellem. Har sin egen 70'er charme. Gode orgellyde. Kreativt

This is crazy lol

Okay I thought

Definitely a lot funk but I was not familiar with any songs. Some of the songs were good. Others not so much.

Impressions of the album altogether, then more positive thoughts on its opener. This is my second time through Maggot Brain. I was primed a couple day ago by a discussion of Sun Ra, but also realized a truth. I tried George Clinton's groups, didn't really stick. The Arkestra, on the other hand, was immediately fascinating. And I have to say it's because Funkadelic, by and large, doesn't swing nearly as much. In addition, there's an obvious difference in tone: "I gotta go to work" vs. space chants. Irony aside. Now, the title track is great. Fades out a bit early for my taste, but there's a great sense of physicality to it I missed the first time around. It's very tape-y: You can hear the medium at times, but also imagine yourself pulling the nearly new artifact from a forgotten box in the attic.

I liked some of it. The song with a bunch of fart sounds was an interesting artistic choice. Really experimental album. Probably would have given it 2.5

Definitely funky

I think it was on the list for the first song which was worth the listen. The rest faded into the background.

Intro track is amazing, rest of the album is average to good except Back In Our Minds, which I don’t like at all. Would give 3.5 if that was an option.

Hendrix type music. Did not really enjoy it . Lost interest with it

Not the Funkadelic I was thinking of but there were some good jams in this album

Very funky and groovy. I did enjoy it quite a bit but there are some tracks that are a little too much. Some tracks are overbearing with instrumentals, but I understand why people would want that

Nothing really interesting.

not so great

Straight cool vibes for the first song. The following three aren’t as engaging

This gives me vibes of a more funky Hendrix. The guitar work is fantastic! Would get a higher rating but I find “War of Armageddon” almost unlistenable. My favorite tracks are “Hit It and Quit It” and “Super Stupid”.

seems good...had a hard time getting into it at the beginning. Would like to listen some more.

Funkadelic indeed

I thought I would like it more since I like this style of music and this is their most famous album, but not really unfortunately.

Gut aber funk

Un peu lassant! Mais de très bonnes chansons Maggot Brain, Can you get to that Super stupid Hit it and quit

When I think of Funkadelic, I guess I'm thinking of Parliament. The first 2 songs aren't all that funky. It was all right. Didn't have any songs that grabbed me. I learned that the same musicians released funky albums as Parliament, and rock-y albums at Funkadelic. This was all right -- I give it a 3.

This is great music to just groove to. Loved discovering that Sleigh Bells "Rill Rill" samples "Can you get to that" on this album.

This was alright, some of the guitar rifts had BBKing vibes. Funkadelic s as Keats reminds me of my ex-wife.

Giving it a 3 because I did not listen to it and don’t want to be overly judgmental.

Lots of cool ideas, but didn’t feel like it gelled into an album I could relisten to a lot

Love it when you hear something you like and realize it's the original to a song you listened to on repeat for all of 2012. Rill Rill baby!

Production: 7/20 Songwriting: 11/20 Innovation: 18/20 Bangers: 5/20 Emotional response: 11/20 =52 Innovative! And interesting! But didn’t really like how it sounded ultimately. I feel a bit sick now.

stupendous electric guitar. 1st 10 minute track is haunting guitar solo

Some amazing guitar solos and some pretty innovative and funky music. The rock/funk hybrid wasn’t quite my cuppa but def respect this

Enjoyed it mostly.

Cool guitar. Couple of classic funk tunes on here

Funky shizzle! Have saved this and will Listen again. A high 3

interesting flatulence on final track. found the rest of the album interesting. It wouldn't have taken much for Funkadelic to branch out into funky black sabbath territory- that would have been a 5 star album!

Slow start, some really nice tunes in the middle section

"I recollect with a-mixed emotions All the good times we used to have But you were making preparations For the coming separation And you blew everything we had" (Can you get to that)

This was a fun album. The cow and bell sounds were a nice little add on. I do enjoy the funk sound and enjoy the pace of an album like that...after the title track of course which wasn’t a super start to the album.

Not nearly as funky as I expected.

Guitar in Maggot Brain is sick. Would love to hear Shane's thoughts

Opening and closing tracks are A+, feels like some force of nature. The album as a whole is eclectic and groovy, rockin' and thoughtful. Was a great listen and makes me want to hear a little more from Funkadelic, but not earth-shattering as a whole. "Maggot Brain" and "Wars of Armageddon" tracks are almost 5/5 tracks. True Feelings: 3.7/5

I enojyed the incorporation of rock, psychedelic, and blues sounds.

Wish I could give 3.5 stars. Totally eclectic and weird, but in a good way. Very listenable, merging elements of funk, rock, and psychedelia.

Some good riffs and solos

pretty funky, first song is the best

coming to this organically via a playlist with maggot brain. an excellent guitar track, listening in stereo is an absolute must. the echoing effect of the guitar is spectacular. there is a lot to like about this album as a whole but it is let down by the final song - wars of armageddon, all the random noises actually makes it almost unlistenable. favourite track: maggot brain

Good jam album, a whole lot more than just a Sleigh Bells sample. I do feel some of the compositions had more room to grow, but the jams as they are were great and refreshingly experimental

Funkadelic lives up to their name. Up tempo, experimental sounds at times. I appreciate the shorter length. A longer album might wear me out.

Loved the eponymous song Maggot Brain! Such smooth guitar riffs.

funky, good riffs, but just lost me on some songs

Very wild, and seemed a little unfocused. But enjoyed some of the Gilmour-like guitar on the opening track.

This was pretty cool but I don't see myself listening again anytime soon. I used to listen to One Nation Under a Groove by Funkadelic a fair bit. Should put that one back in my rotation.

Really cool album. Lots of 'feel' and emotion that really comes across in the playing. A lot of reviewers seem to focus on the first and last tracks, but I thought the whole thing was great.

Starts off strong with Maggot Brain which is one of my most favourite songs ever. Several good tracks. Not a particular favourite of mine but good to listen to every now and then. Particularly enjoy the afro-psychedelic vibes.

Funky and very much an influence on Prince.

The actual track Maggot Brain is a goat track

interesting

Interesting

No earworms here

Too much rock.

Erster Song und Gitarrensound war krass. Danach wars mir iwie bisschen belanglos

Honestly quite disappointed by this one. It seems popular on online music spaces (which I know can often mean I won’t actually like it because they often choose snobbery over fun anyway) and when I’ve lurked on people’s profiles here I’ve seen it get five stars often. But this did nothing for me, and I felt it would be like that since I heard the opening track. I was just bored for most of it.

not really my style but i can appreciate what it offers. i do like some of the lyrics. a bit ahead of their time being in the early 70s. having 2/7 songs be nearly 10 minute instrumentals is a choice. having a song warning about drug abuse on... the album you wrote while on an acid trip is also a choice.

When I saw funk, this isn't exactly what I was thinking I was going to get. I'm not really sure what I think about this one. I'm not sure this is music that is meant to be listened to statically. It feels like music that is more meant to be experienced, and sitting at my desk trying to get into it just isn't doing it...

Interesting, little to no lyrics definetly on the creative side of music with the different instruments etc. not my cup of tea.

I know this album is very popular/highly regarded, but it was a grind to get through. I thought my headphones weren't working on Maggot Brain. If I genuinely don't let popular perception influence me, I'm giving it a 2.

For a Funkadelic album, this didn’t seem all that funky. I only really enjoyed Wars of Armageddon, and even then - only for 30 seconds or so before it went back to being just like the rest of the album.

Svært forglemmelig.

Olihan taas psykedeelistä. En oikein ymmärtänyt.

Bit overrated

This was fairly OK generic 70s, but it really tails off at the end to leave me an overall negative feeling

The literal fart track ruined it for me

Fun sounds and playing but I can't imagine ever being in the mood for this

After the first epic track it became generic funk rock.

no es tanto mi estilo

Did not listen

this was kind of scary

Makes me feel like I have maggots in my brain. No singalongability2/3

Not my fav kind of music. A lot of just jamming out.

mehhhh......2.5.

2/5 Best Song: Maggot Brain Worst Song: Wars of Armageddon Weirdest Song: Wars of Armageddon Maggot Brain starts off strong with its epic title track guitar solo and gradually fizzles into a succession of generic funk rhythms with the occasional wacky instrumentation and crying baby here and there. Also hope you like the key of E (6 of 7 tracks).

#3 This was the second time I have given this album a try, giving it two listens this time around. For all of the rave reviews and praise it gets, I still feel like I am missing something here. Yes, the title track is awesome, but I feel like it sets a level and style that the rest of the album fails to reach again, save for maybe Super Stupid. I guess I had hopes that the album would have leaned into the psychedelic guitar a bit more. But, I can see how in its time this was a mind-blowing genre-bender that sounded like nothing else out there. I don't know how likely I am to deliberately seek this one out again.

That cow mooing sound on that one song was really unnecessary

(2/7) a series of noises ranging from annoying to unpleasant

고어영화를 듣는느낌. 마지막 트랙은 대체 뭐엿죠;

Holy God, that guitar solo! Hendrix-esque cosmic blues that goes on forever and ever. Would easily rank #1 favorite if it were only spoken word poetry followed by a 15 minute Eddie Hazel solo, over and over, on a triple album.

No esta mal. Tiene buen estilo

Ah kagak tau dah

No me gustó tanto

Funk prog - I didn't hate it but some of it I didn't enjoy - it made me a little anxious

I was hoping to get some good music when this came up. Alas, it's just another album that isn't really bad, but doesn't give me anything of value either. Meh.

Awesome

Not for me but an okay listen

Pretty cool

It is a funk and psychedelic rock album. It has the amazing guitar solo by Eddie Hazel. It was interesting to listen to the other tracks, but I wouldn’t say I’d want to listen to any of them again, exсept the title track Maggot Brain. Not really my kind of genre.

Not my jam as a whole - liked Maggot Brain though.

that electric guitar solo from the title track put my expectations so far that I ended up kinda dissapointed when I finished listening to the project. it is a fine album for what it lasts but it left me wanting more. I give it a 2,5/5

it wasn't my favourite... but some of the guitar was nice!

Demasiada instrumental

Once you get past the overly long awful title song it got more interesting

i refuse to glaze that 10 minute guitar solo

Not my jam.

I don't like

it aint funky

decent. different than what i expected

Two 10 minute songs out of 7 and they were not all that great. Just not a fan of George Clinton.

some of these songs slapped like super stupid. actively disliked a few. this seems like less good jimi to me. probably reductive. overall i enjoyed but not listening again probably? 2/5

So good elements but not my jam

What a Wierd album. The opening song was miserable. The second was great the third was just thinly veiled sex. The fourth was good. Just all over the place. I will say at least the songs were different and I could tell when a song was over. Which I was thankful for because it meant I was closer to finishing this album.

Didn't find it particularly inspiring and wars of Armageddon might be one of the worst songs I've heard, akin to one of my year 7 music lessons.

Not my vibe

More like Rockadelic

This was not terrible but I'm not sure I would remember or want to listen to it again.

Yikes. Not for me!

I do like a lot of George Clinton’s music, but not particularly this one

Wow! Didn’t know I should have dropped a little cid before listening to this one! Definitely ahead of its time for 1971 and I guess I’d say Hit it and Quit it was the fave track. Either that or the title track. Not really my cup of tea, but can appreciate why it’s one of the 1001.

Guitar work was good. Apart from that, not into it.

Was hoping for much more. 2 might not be accurate, but based on the reviews, it’s warranted

The instrumental opener and the second track were dope, rest not 100% my jam

Not sure why I needed to hear that

Not good for me was expecting something else and it was dissappointing. Felt it was mid nothing special

That intro/title track went on for 10:20 too long. That solo felt like mansplaining a blues scale for 10mins. BORING. Average album overall and didn’t move me in anyway.

Meh. Boring. Is there such a thing as "prog funk"?

Interesting album for sure but not my vibe
