Fun little groovy album.

I didn’t feel the funk

Emotional rollercoaster po prvej pesnicke smh

Surrounding

6/10 Very nice 11-29-2024

The narration and sound effect scared tf out of me but liked Maggot Brain

The real question is: more power to the pussy or more pussy to the power?

Fine P-funk stripped of its ridiculousness and gimmicks.

This album was pretty fun! I am not sure how often I will return to it, but it was a good time! The solo song of "Maggot Brain" was fun, although it did go a little long in my opinion. However, what the fuck was "Wars of Armageddon"....the burping throughout it was so weird. Overall though, I did enjoy most of this album. Probably more of a 3.5 Liked songs: "Can You Get To That" , "Hit It and Quit It" , "You And Your Folks, Me And My Folks" , "Super Stupid"

Pre-listening thoughts: my brain feels like maggots rn Post/during listening thoughts: not the opening song being nine minutes… I was sorely mistaken expecting just a funk album I suppose. Sue me for seeing the name Funkadelic and expecting funk. Instead it’s a psychedelic rock fusion album. I think I wanted to like this a lot more than I actually did. The genre blend just isn’t quite working for me today because I really did just want a pure funk album sorry 😭. It’s really unique and I’ll give it credit and maybe on another day I’d enjoy this more. But today I’m kinda meh on it. 5.5/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: I dont think so? Fav tracks: Can You Get To That, You and Your Folks… Least fav tracks: Maggot Brain, Super Stupid

Much more rock oriented than I was expecting. Very Hendrixesque. First song is incredible. Also Rill Rill sample! Pretty good but lots of the middle got lost in the shuffle.

Liked Can You Get To That

5/10…funkadelic soul

I can see why this was very influential at the time, very experimental. But most of it sounds very repetitive to me.

Panning links guitar rechts is heel cool. Fucking kak geluiden hell nah. More pussy to the power. Drug ahh song

No los conocía. Sin más; en 1971 hay muchísimos lps mejores.

cool, but little bit tiring in the end

An album I'd been meaning to listen to but hadn't got round to it. Surprised that I didn't like it more but maybe it would grow on me if I gave it another go. Fav track: Can You Get to That

Really funky, enjoyed

Wasn’t so keen on the title track but I liked some of these songs. Some are reminiscent of early Talking Heads.

Undeniably funky, but very all over the place tonally - loved the title track, but the rest just feels a bit rough and unfinished in places. Can You Get To That has some great vocal work too, but it all just felt a bit... There? Nothing too amazing, sorry Funkadelic but I don't tee hink I'll be back to this one.

This is really good music and for me it's very situational a to when id like to listen to it. The song Maggot Brain has parts that sounded like Pink Floyd, specifically Wish You Were Here (which came 4 years later).

Devoid of funk

#74 - some bangers and some ridiculous fillers.

Reading all the raving reviews makes me think that I missed something here.. this album was fine but forgettable in my opinion. I get experimentalism but feel like this could have been better. 3/5

I thought it is going to be better. I skipped the last song as i found it annoying.

Take some bluesy guitar work, add a whole bunch of funk and integrate it with some weird themes -= good stuff

Pretty slick entry. Maybe not the best album but I can appreciate the long jams that bookend a pretty fun 35 minute album. Hard not to get behind a band called Funkadelic that seems to just want to get together and have fun making music. Love seeing Bernie Worrell of Talking Heads (and elsewhere) pop up as a band member. 2.89 stars

This album is weird af, but also nice. Nice grooves. Title track is an instrumental masterpiece. Being from 1971 I see how this record made the list but... too weird maybe.

First song great. Rest is not for me

Looks and album titles can be deceptive. As illustrated here. One look at this album and I wasn’t looking forward to it. But what a great guitar solo to start it all off. Not what I’d expect on a funk album and it wouldn’t have sounded out of place on one or two of my prized harder sounding prog rock albums. Well produced sound as well. Guitar echos bouncing from my speakers to every corner of my lounge. This was 10 in the morning so what it’ll sound like at night after a few beers?? That first track was perhaps the highlight (so much so that I bookmarked it as a favourite) as it soon reverted to what I expected and a funk sound which does not do it for me. But then Super Stupid came along and I could have been listening to Hendrix. Wiki dares to state that at times tracks on the album bettered Hendrix. Wouldn’t go that far but a great effort as regards that one track. The long last track, Wars of Armageddon I was expecting another great guitar solo but it turned out to be an overlong jam. But that great first track really made this album and worth the entrance price alone. Cover art was intriguing. Was that a head of someone buried whose brain had been infested with maggots or just a carelessly discarded head? Either way not worth pondering too long at 10am. 3/5 18/10/24

3 - I really liked the opening mood of the first song but nothing else grabbed me

Funky and smooth, but also chill. Something seems missing though. Not a fan of very long tracks but the shorter ones were decent. Highlights: Super Stupid

You know what, my expectations were genuinely on the floor when I saw a nine minute track titled Maggot Brain up first. I wanted to hate it and give it 1/5; but, and I can’t pinpoint when, I actually started to really enjoy it

That was a nice surprise. Shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, or an album by its title! Enjoyable guitar work as I’d expect from this lot, but some really weird samples that spoilt things.

I seem to like George Clinton's sound, mellow stuff going on in the background and a fuzzed up whah whah fest of a guitar. But I don't like it enough to listen to it as a go to.

That first song set the expectations too high

It was OK. Funky, but washed over me a bit.

First song made me text my dad. You get LOST on that track, you zone the fuck OUT. I described it to dad as being taken out of your body, being given a power wash, and being put back in. That's powerful music. Now there were a few songs after that that did nothing like that for me but the talent never left the building so yes.

Side one: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Side two: ⭐⭐ I guess I take the average? Waste of a great start.

Something sounding very nice, yet too experimental for me to enjoy

Like the first song, it's awesome. Rest is fine.

Not on Spotify

Compared to other Funkadelic albums I think this is a bit weak. Hit it and Quit It is a stand out. I don’t get the hype around the Maggot Brain guitar solo.

Maggot Brain goes down as one of the greatest guitar solos of all time, but rest of the album struggles

Pretty good. Funky + psychedellic, funnily enough. Some nice moments but somehow inconsequential.

I’ve been vacillating between liking this album and not liking this album. Can You Get to That and Back in Our Minds were pretty good. But otherwise, eh.

Don’t like Super Stupid or Wars of Armageddon

Hard to comprehend how early this was for great guitar music. Pioneering, but didn't entirely love it.

Kinda interesting and kinda ok. Was pleased I heard it, but not quite the music I want right now. Mild comfort. 3 stars. Potential for more, but not quite seen or felt right now.

01) Maggot Brain - 8,5 02) Can You Get to That - 7,5 03) Hit It and Quit It - 7,5 04) You and Your Folks, Me and My Folks - 7,5 05) Super Stupid - 7,0 06) Back in Our Minds - 7,5 07) Wars of Armageddon - 6,0 TOTAL: 7,36 (74/100) Current ranking: 167/305

Seemed like the first song is from a different album by a different altist. 🤔

Certainly funky, certainly not that interesting

I think I liked it? Don't quite remember to be honest

This is a weird record. It's funky. But it's also quite a bit maudlin at times. I'm used to my funk being up up up all the time and no slowing down. Power to the pussy, that's a sentiment I can appreciate. There's so much exploration here, and I don't think all of it landed. Was a cool ride, but not one I'm gunna take again.

thought this was fun! last song was just a lot of noises. probably wouldn't listen to much of it again

Never heard this album before. The first song is a great instrumental which sounds ahead of its time. Pretty much everything on this album works. I bet they were amazing to see live. Strong 3 stars. "Power to the pussy"

I rather liked some of this. I've listened to the cover of Can You Get To That by Balancing Act so I rather enjoyed the original.

as a vibe/lyric listener, an 11 minute instrumental is not my cup of tea but overall enjoyed the sound

Cool acid punk sound overall but the bookends feel a bit indulgent. Worth the listen.

Strangely enough I have never listened to this record. Not what I expected but not bad

ich lieb s albumcover so fest 10 MIN GMÜETLICH hä ich hans gfühl ich kenns?? debi hani denkt ich han das nanie glost poaaah ich liebsssss die brüellend gitarre mite ruhige, schlaflied-mässige gitarre im hindergrund schochli much aber jo ER HET TÜFI STIMM FUNNY jaa aaber umhaue tuts mi jz nöd you and you folks findi sticht jz chli meh usse, sehr geil mitem bass super stupid het echli led zeppelin chords? richtigg geil back in our minds hani eis zu goofy gfunde tibiheitsch findi v.a. die geil wo mich ah led zeppelin erinneret, wie au wars of armageddon ok nvl jz gahts recht ufd eier schwanke zwüsche 3 und 4, aber ehrlich gseit ischs echli wenig konsistent füres 4i

honestly a little disappointed overall. aside from Wars Of Armageddon it fell a little flat for me with less substance than some of the other stuff i heard from them. i feel bad giving it a 3 but i don’t think it cracks 4 with only having one song with relisten ability

Perfectly decent funk music. Maggot brain is a stunning song though

This is alright?

Not my favorite P-Funk album. It was fun hearing where some of the samples came from. Not sure if i'd listen to it again.

I think I tend towards the Parliament version of this band over the Funkadelic version. Though there is some great guitar work on this album, overall, I liked it just okay.

The contrast from the first and second song is crazy. The first one is a 10 minute guitar solo where the guitarist is shredding while the second one is a pretty normal song. This through me for a loop especially because most of the album afterwards is normal funk. Then the last song is weird as hell (some guy farts on the microphone!). This album is both pretty decent and absolutely sucks so I'll just give it a 3 and stop thinking about.

Funky Probably wouldn’t listen again

I thought this would be right up my street, but it fell flat 3/5 …Maggot Brain was amazing, a solid 5/5, but the rest of the tracks didn’t live up to the magic of the first one. The songs were really short too. Reviewed 23/08/2024

It’s nice

Odd, I think I'd like an instrumental version a lot more. 3/5

Who would have thought that band with the name Funkadelic would sound funky? Jokes aside this was a solid album that doesn't appear to take itself too seriously. I wouldn't call it my favorite, and the fart noises at the end were definitely unnecessary. Musically it focused heavily in the instruments, which were all solid.

Starts out slow- i understand the stylistic choice (especially with the message of knocking up the earth and imagery of decay / maggots) but not the sound I look for in Funk. Album then picks up and becomes much more high-energy and fun. I liked "Hit It and Quit It" a lot. Definitely a lot of strong emotion and raw sound in this album

Big funk. Can’t tell them what to do. Felt the beat, but their art is wild style.

A bit of an odd one. I really like the middle section, but it’s bookended by two, ten minute tracks, that take up 2/3 of the album. The first one is a noodling Hendrixesque guitar solo, the last track is a bit of a sloppy jam. The middle part is great funk but there’s just not an album’s worth of music here. 3 stars I guess, coz it’s really good but also pretty lame.

Um...okay? Non so perché mi aspettavo mi cambiasse la vita

Some bangers, some sleepers. Didn’t feel complete, idk needed more

High 3 - very good!

Title track goes so hard I can get with this Funky but also nightmare nightmare nightmare Closer echos the opener

This is a cool album. Not that listenable, but good.

could i write poetry to this? n

Very funky

It had fun noises

Not my thing

This wasn't what I expected at all. Loved the raunchy guitar throughout. But this lacks songs you would want to hear over and over

Funky und wenig Text

maggot brain can you get to that

This is the 3rd George Clinton album I've had in a month, but it was probably my least favorite. The opener Maggot Brain is pretty good and I swear I was listening to Hendrix in it with how expressive the guitar was. But the rest of the album didn't really strike me a funk album and was pretfy different from what I expected. I knew the riff in Can You Get To That, which was cool. I like what this group will become more than I like this album.

It was pretty good, lots of instruments and some various vocals too. It’s Halloween-ish and very psychedelic. 6.5/10 overall. Would recommend to at least give it a try.

Maggot brain is a cool song, the rest is a bit too funky for me

Groove and samples galore.

Five Sly-and-the-Family-Stone-style pop funk songs bookended by a ten minute guitar solo and a ten minute psychedelic freak out. Now, the five pop funk songs are solid and the guitar solo had its moments, but I think this album may be a bit overrated. I have always liked Parliament Funkadelic, but I have never loved them. This album does nothing to change that opinion.

10 min iconic guitar jam

There was a lot more rock than funk than I was expecting, at least early in the album. Which is a good thing because I'm not usually totally sold on funk and I enjoyed most of it. Solid album and lots of good stuff going on throughout and plenty to like.

I was excited to hear this one, I had it in mind that Funkadelic were in some way mindblowing, but in reality I didn't feel this way at all. Kinda dull to be honest.

Really interesting lore behind the ultimate band, Parliament-Funkadelic. The most interesting song musically was Back in Our Minds. My favorite song was the opener, Maggot Brain. Pretty good overall!

Except opening track, not much. Then good again, then bad, then cool...

I will definitely listen to this again. I was familiar with Can You Get to That. Great song. More varied musically than I expected.

Fuuuuunky

Liked the album. Didn’t like the title.

I was in a bad mood before I put this on and this album helped me feel better. I had my eyes closed and I felt like I was having a dream . I've always wanted to listen to this having seen my friends listening to it. My favourite song was 'back in our minds' The guitar was striking I'm not sure I've ever felt a guitar quite like how I did listening to this

Fun album. Better than a 3 but not a 4

it was good but it kind of freaked me out

I really enjoy this album, they really tell a story with just the guitar sounds

Heavy "funk." Like a long jam session. Probably wouldn't include on my playlist, but kind of fun. "Psychedelic funk" is a good descriptor.

oh man, this album...well maybe not the whole album but that first song is incredible!! I say maybe not the whole album because I haven't listened to the whole thing before. I don't even remember how or where it was that I heard the Maggot Brain track but it is so awesome!! I'm excited to hear this today. It's a 10 min track with an interesting intro. The lyrics are so strange. Well there are only 7 tracks out of 10 on that album available on Spotify. The rest were okay. Nothin like that first one. So I'll give it 3 stars.

I just struggle with mostly instrumental music. Idk. It seems good but it’s not for me

Maggot Brain is good, the rest forgettable.

So ahead of its time. Maggot Brain is a psychadelic, cosmic anthem.

pretty cool, some nice hendrix-esque guitar

Just mediocre.

Exactly. Funkadelic

Pretty cool, 3.5.

It was fine but similar to a lot of other rock funk groups. It had a lot of Jimi Hendrix vibes, with the lead singer even sounding like him. Wars of Armageddon, I get was supposed to be sounds competing, but it was just unpleasant to listen to.

Really enjoyed. Great funk sound and can move to the rhythm the whole time.

As unattractive as the title is, the album is pretty good. The style mixed with the title really combined together to bring the word "Nasty" to the front of my mind ---and this is the good kind of Nasty. Favorite track "Maggot Brain" 3/5

Title track is unreal. Rest of the album is surprisingly a bit mid.

Hendrix was very influential to the makers of this album. If you like Hendrix this is for you Like being in Harlem in 1972. Reminded me of a 1960/70s stage show like 'Hair' Innervisions by Stevie Wonder is more funky. This must be 'delic' then.

Some really cool stuff on here, but eventually too meandering for me. 3.2

This just SOUNDS like early funk and soul to me. I'd never heard of this band before but I can understand how this would be influential. Not something I'd return to but it was an interesting listen nonetheless.

i was like "this sounds like jimi hendrix" and then it was

Super down to listen to this. I love R&B/Soul. I don't listen to enough of it. I need to add more to my pallet. Was not expecting track 1 to be a full-on guitar solo. Pretty decent.

Upee kansi. Aika minimalistinen meno - pidän kovasti, se yllätti.

funky, enjoyable. okayish.

MAGGOT BRAIN Maggot Brain - I think this song is very nice. The guitar goes rather hard, indubitably. The words at the start are also very provoking. 5/5 Can You Get To That - Very funky, makes me super happy and hopeful to be honest, despite the lyrics being quite the opposite. Really living up to their name with this one. 4.5/5 Hit It and Quit It - Please don't shake it all around like that. 4/5 You And Your Folks, Me And My Folks - Yeah yeah yeah this song is pretty good, nice positive commentary yeah yeah yeah. 4/5 Super Stupid - This one is a little bit irritating honestly, also too long for what it is. I still really like the guitar and keyboard though. 3/5 Back In Our Minds - The jaw harp hurts my ears I do not appreciate this. 1/5 Wars of Armageddon - Why did they do this, it makes me sad. I do not like the screechiness or all the speaking. 2/5 OVR: 3/5 I feel like it ends way too poorly.

Was on in the background while I did the dishes. Provided a pleasant and funky atmosphere. I couldn't help myself but to wipe my dishes in accordance with the music. This piece of art is so influential, I grew an afro whilst in its embrace.

I heavily favour the Parliament side of the Parliament-Funkadelic coin, but with that being said this album is a great one if you like 10-minuts guitarsolos and instruments overlapping heavily. The 7-songs album for me was kinda hard to get through, but in the end I liked it more and more. I liked the roughness in the vocals and the edginess of the drums. Overall experience was good, and I see why it has made the list, but 10-minuts guitarsolos is a couple minuts too much for my style.

Maggot Brain is 5/5. Absolute beast of a track. I will probably be using this to benchmark new headphones/speakers in the future. The rest of the album is ok. Very forgettable. Short enough to not become annoying. Inclined to give it 4 stars, but honestly, my enjoyment of this album solely hinges on a single song, which is rather bad when considering it as a complete piece of art.

Viihdyttävä setti ja kokoonpano pelaa hienosti yhteen.

The combination of prodigious and guitar virtuosity, coupled with similarly virtuoso drumming, can be both mesmerising and annoying. I think this strays into the latter. The clunky production and addition of household sounds is more, well, clunky than pink floyd esque. At times this felt like the sound track of a blaxploitation movie from the early 70s, which makes sense I suppose.

fun 2.9/5

3.5 wished it was more funky

Super freaky interesting album. Glad I listened.

Some of the tracks sounded like unplanned jam sessions.

not my vibe

Funkadelic is legendary in so many ways. When I saw them in concert it was probably one of the best live shows I’d ever seen. This album has some bops on it: You and Your Folks; Can You Get To That; Super Stupid. James Brown may have started funk but Funkadelic perfected it!

It was ok

They really dropped the ball with Wars of Armageddon. I was about to give 4 stars until then.

First listen Saved 4/7 Top track: Maggot Brain

Title track is epic, but the rest doesn't do much for me. Was thinking about a 3 until the fucking fart noises at the end. Definitely prefer Parliament

Maggot brain - loved this Can you get to that - good Hit it and quit it - meh You and your folks- ok Super stupid - good Back in our minds -nopeee Wars of Armageddon -meh 3/5

This was a fun listen

Can You Get To That, Hit It And Quit It Least fav track: Wars Of Armageddon

Cool but kind of scary

Some bright bits but not my overall favourite.

Liked this a lot. Good funk rock jammin'!

Fart sounds?

Unusual. Different. Funky. It’s not really my thing but I enjoyed it well enough.

Bara nokku gott!!

Desconcertante. 3/5.

ok, but wouldn't seek it out

Enjoyable

Great funk album and musically they were really good at what they were doing, though I expected to like it more. It was perhaps a bit monotonous or perhaps a bit spontaneous? I don't know.

#152. They really drop you off in the deep end with this one, huh? The rest of the album is solid enough, but the song Maggot Brain fucks for sure. 3/5: decent

It's good. Not my thing necessarily. Some ideas seem a bit underdeveloped

Distinctly average

Too much noodling on most of these songs. When the first track is over 10 minutes long for no reason i'm already rolling my eyes. No denying great musicians etc but boring album.

Blues rock, Hendrix ish

A funk classic

It was alright

Intro guitar solo is pretty good. Kinda odd for a funk album. "Can You Get To That" is sampled pretty heavily on the Sleigh Bells hit "Ring Ring". I enjoyed "Super Stupid". This album was a good middle ground for me. I think it has potential to grow on me.

This was exciting and funky except the final song which had some jarring screeching and disgusting sounds. Stand-out: Super Stupid

Need a re-listen.

Pretty solid funk album. It got a little bit monotonous though.

ganz cool

Definitely funky. I like it. The use of random fart noises and other unusual sounds makes me reconsider my thought that anything can be used to create music.

Forgettable middle. Good start and finish.

Interesting sounds in this one

Guitar solo goes Brrr

Not bad but some of the background noises just really got under my skin

Rocking funk, plus a little weird- I like

Funky as you like in parts but a bit hot and miss. Title track was the low point. Got better from there on in

Funk it up! Totally could feel the energy of that era…. I appreciated the “let’s all get along” vibes … this funk slaps and I can dig it ✊🏼

This is what I can only imagine a bad trip feels like. I appreciate the experimental nature of the music. But 2 minutes of fart noises and coughing? Come on guys.

It was okayish I guess. Felt kind of empty for my taste.

Two iconic songs followed up by lesser quality. Significant sound choices tho keep this an excellent album.

More rock/funk. Starts out kind of slow, which I don't like in a funk record, and definitely is more in line with the weirder side of funk. Still cool, though. Very weird, especially at the end.

Kann man gut nebenbei hören.

The first track is great but had me wondering if the digital files got mixed up with another album. The second track quickly verified it was correct.

Mixed bag here. I enjoyed the middle of the album more than expected--I've never really sought out funk music, but this was good. The first track was itself a mixed bag, and the last track decidedly did NOT work for me. Sometimes the experimental track on an album is transcendent, but sometimes it's just noise.

The title track is probably the best funk/rock instrumental ever, and then there’s some other songs which range from fine to solid. I feel like Funkadelic were at a point in their career similar to Black Sabbath at Paranoid: coming from psychedelic/blues roots, this was the album where they really began to develop their sound that made them famous. Oddly enough though, I felt like Parliament releases contain their funkier side where Funkadelic releases are more experimental rock. Definitely not my favorite Funkadelic/Parliament/George Clinton/Bootsy Collins/etc. album, there’s a handful of Parliament albums I prefer along with One Nation Under a Groove (which contains a bonus EP with a live version of “Maggot Brain”). A lot of Maggot Brain feels like a fusion of James Brown and Jimi Hendrix, with a little Miles Davis thrown in. Further on in Parliament/Funkadelic’s career, I don’t think I can rightfully compare them to anyone; they’re the ones who get imitated, not the other way around.

"Funkadelic"... das sagt alles.

If the first or last track had been made by a bunch of public school boys from Hertfordshire it would be called overblown prog wankery. It's OK.

Good liked the last song, kinda like a Can album but American Aoife: I like how it opens like a slow dance. The guitar is incredible, which isn't something I normally vibe with, but they did a good job of making it feel like it's boring holes through my brain. The vocals/lyrics are kinda just 70s funk, kinda generic. I prefer the instrumental tracks by a mile. Woah, the bells moving through your ear canals feels wild. The album art is brilliant, feels like it would still be cool today. The way it's lit really makes it stand out.

the music is good and definitely belongs on this list, but this album wasn’t really my thing so i don’t think i’d listen to it again. plus the first and last songs stretched on too long for me.

It was pretty good at first but as the album went on it got more and more meh.

Guitar solo your momma died - breathtaking breath Acid rock reigns hard

3.5 while i do appreciate this album stylistically, i wish i connected to it more. maybe with more listens i will, but i don’t see my self coming back to it all that often

I have listened to this album before and honestly I thought I liked it more than I did this time. Some good guitar playing sure but goes on too long for my tastes.

This was pretty entertaining. Turns out I like a little funk in my life.

Lot of random sounds in that last track, impressive that they somehow managed to incorporate a cuckoo clock in a rock jam.

Not my cup of tea! Mostly perfectly fine funk.

This album really encapsulates the essence of 1971, or at least how I imagine it. It's kind of a strange album, with two extended instrumental pieces bookcase five very different songs. It also has a fairly epic ending with a coo-coo clock, fart noises, and a nuclear explosion. It's all nicely funky, though, and that's what holds it together.

"Maggot Brain" by Funkadelic, released in 1971, is a seminal album that epitomizes the fusion of funk, rock, and psychedelic elements. At the core of the album is the iconic title track, a ten-minute guitar solo by Eddie Hazel, showcasing emotive and innovative musicianship. While "Maggot Brain" is celebrated for its adventurous sound, the album's overall coherence might feel somewhat fragmented. The range of styles, from the soulful "Can You Get to That" to the experimental "Wars of Armageddon," can make for a slightly disjointed listening experience. Awarding a balanced 3/5, "Maggot Brain" is undeniably influential and contains moments of brilliance. However, its diversity may not resonate equally with all listeners, making it an album appreciated more for its individual parts than its overall cohesion.

Good mixture of songs, well aligned

Vanvittig intro.

I like the groove of this album. The musicians are solid. Not something I would choose to listen to but I'm glad I heard it.

Although I liked it, I found the music grating at times

album five maggot brain: 1.5/5 can you get to that: 3.5/5 hit it and quit it: 4/5 you and your folks, me and my folks: 3.5/5 super stupid: 4.5/5 back in our minds: 4/5 wars of armageddon: 2/5 the first and the last song we’re not that great, but that could just be because i’m not a fan of long songs. the other ones were good tho. it’s honestly hard to rate this, because i want to give it a 5 but the two songs just really hold it down :( favorite: super stupid

Fyrsta lagið hins vegar of mikið gítarrúnk fyrir mig.

Enjoyed the album. Really funky vibes

1960s soulful electric guitar , 1st song excellent. Generally, OG black power vibe

really great instrumentals, lyrics were quirky

Oh I loved the opening track but it kind of became forgettable as i progressed, maybe i need to listen to it again

Was decent. Learned some interpolations I didn’t know were a thing. Got into an accident listening to this album so I enjoyed it less

An oddly paced funk album. Out of the other funk albums on this list, this one blends into the background. Nothing very memorable about it; mostly instrumentals.

I really liked the first track very pl. I'd if it was before. Pretty cool album tho

Brilliance, stupidity, weirdness

fun album i listened to this year a bit already

3/5 stars Liked the first few tracks - definitely groovy. Last track on the album just weird - I don’t like fart/cat crying noises in my music.

111223 18:15 3.5

3 mostly instrumental

Yeah it was all right

The best rock funk fusion I've heard so far

funkAY

maybe i don't get this? it was fun and upbeat but didn't really capture my attention. definitely need to give it another listen

Decent, but not quite my jam

Terrific funk classic.

Funkadelic for sure. Not bad but I couldn't take a while album in one sitting. Good as part of a playlist.

Most of the album was nice and would have received 4 stars, but the last track sounded like a child found those random sound buttons on a Cassio. 3 stars.

This wasn’t as funky as I was expecting. And the first track was out of place. The play list that came on after was fab though

Origin of the phrase "hit it and quit it"? Might be my favorite track on the album though. The album is an experience to put it mildly. Some good early funk mixed in with the weirdest sound effects and lyrics that could be chosen. It feels more like a concept to an album than a complete album. I love George Clinton, but the stuff he would go on to do with Parliament Funkadelic is much better. Same deal for pretty much every member of the band, doubly so for Hendrix

Pretty weird album, liked it but didn’t love it. Ahead of its time, ahead of me.

couple of fun songs

Listened 11/3/23. Long time favorite.

Good tracks 3 & 4 BAD tracks 6 & 7

I swear i've heard other funkadelic albums that i liked better

What a wild album. Had no expectations going in, probably for the best. I probably need some more time with it, but I would say that there's a lot of good material here. Pretty funky

Heard this a few months ago for the first time. Really enjoyable disc. Best of the original funkadelic albums

10 minutes of drugged-out guitar tricks followed by 26 minutes of the funk. Feeling counts for more here than formal song structure, but when the bass is this meaty and the groove is this unrelenting, let the good times roll.

Great listen but not memorable tracks

Savage, wild grooves

It took six albums to encounter one that I knew and saved in my Spotify albums. I truly love the first track, which is a masterpiece, but the rest is mediocre.

Apenas Maggot Brain e Wars of Armaggedon me chamaram atenção

Lenny Kravitz must have listened to this as a kid. Zappa inspired.

Pretty great rifts. Would listen to again

- the first song was a magical journey, very Jimmy Hendrix esque - a couple cool moments but otherwise nothing that blew me away

Always fun finding out that a modern song used a sample, in this case Sleigh Bells.

number 1 is amazingggg heard it before somewhere. the rest is ok

just the right amount of funk

Not bad.

Some fun songs, but couldn't get into the rest of the album.

Not my genre, but still some good songs in it.

Interesting album, some great sample possibilities, little too psychedelic for sustained listening for me.

Well, that was funky.

About a minute in a guitar solo plays and it hits. I'm excited for the rest

This will be my second listen to this album - I heard amazing things, but thought it was good not amazing. Hoping it’ll hit me harder the second time around. It’s good but same reaction. Superb guitar work, but didn’t tickle my spots the same way other albums have. Nothing I want to listen to more than once to be honest

I expected something even more of the experimental extravaganza. I'm definitely not saying it is bad. Instrumental albums are very important to me. 3.5/5.

I like Funk in small doses, I've learned.

fint i spilakvöld

Great, makes you lose yourself to the rhythm. (74%)

Funky, very special, not always so catchy. Sometimes hard to listen to.

Maggot Brain: awesome epic loved it, added it CYGTT: fine just fine Hit it quit it: getting better but just not a fav And your folks…: not memorable at all Super Stupid : fun, added Back in our minds : ugh Wars of Armageddon : CRYING BABY disgusting Rating : 3

Not my style but it’s good

Surprisingly good

More psychadelia than Clinton's trademark p-funk but pretty good nonetheless. I had never heard the title track and was very pleasantly surprised.

Really enjoyed the first song but the rest didn't hit as hard. Maybe if I had listened a few more times I'd find more interest in the rest of the tracks.

Nowhere near the same league as Parliament's Mothership Connection which introduced me to this band. This is all OK, but never really hits the same level of funk.

Fun and nostalgic. Great guitar riffs

It was better than I remember it.

quite enjoyed this, great first track, the rest a bit forgettable

Funky funky jams
