Reviews (page 4 of 14)
Funkadelic is the first band two get two five star reviews from me. Would I have predicted that going in? No chance. Am I happy with my self discovery as a Funkadelic Guy? Hell yeah.
Funky and psycadelic. 5/5
Wow. loved it
Once I heard the song Maggot Brain in a mix. I didn‘t know Funkadelic until then. I was so excited. Happy to see this album here again.
Gross
That's the stuff. Pure genius and innovation.
This is one of my all-time favorite albums.
10/10, Usage of guitar was phenominal for its time the chord progression and the buildup in each track is iconic i could feel the artists hardwork and passion when making both the instrumentals and the vocals on this thing. Each track had a different feel that each gave importance to one another. The album cover although a bit sketchy to my eye, i believed the artist had compassion when putting through this album. I commend also Funkadelics who put up a masterpiece in guitar solos as it was made in the 1970's with barely almost to none technology was used and it was pure instruments

That was amazing. Makes slogging through all these 1's and 2's worth it.
Maggot Brain is the third studio album by the American funk rock band Funkadelic, released in 1971 by Westbound Records. It is widely regarded as one of the band’s masterpieces, and as a landmark album in the history of psychedelic funk, funk rock, and progressive soul. The album showcases the band’s diverse musical influences and styles, ranging from the epic 10-minute guitar solo of the title track, which was inspired by Jimi Hendrix and LSD, to the catchy and upbeat folk-funk of “Can You Get to That”, which features gospel vocals by Isaac Hayes’ group Hot Buttered Soul. The lyrical themes of the album reflect the band’s social and political consciousness, as well as their personal struggles and experiences. The album’s title refers to “the maggots in the mind of the universe”, a metaphor for the decay and corruption of society and human nature4 The songs address topics such as interracial love, drug addiction, class conflict, and spiritual enlightenment. The production of the album was overseen by bandleader George Clinton, who used various techniques and effects to create a distinctive and experimental sound. The album was recorded at United Sound Systems in Detroit, where the band had access to a 16-track recorder and a Moog synthesizer. Clinton also added delay, echo, and other effects in the mixdown, giving the album an “eerie” and “psychedelic” feel. The influence of the album is evident in the work of many artists and genres that followed, such as Prince, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Outkast, Parliament-Funkadelic, and hip hop. The album has been praised by critics and fans alike, and has been included in several lists of the best albums of all time. Maggot Brain is a classic album that showcases the creativity, versatility, and talent of Funkadelic. It is a musical journey that explores the depths of the human condition, the heights of the cosmic consciousness, and the grooves of the funk. It is an album that deserves to be heard, appreciated, and celebrated.
One of the most unique albums ever made. Masterpiece of psychedelic guitar music, half the songs are stuck in my head. A+
Absolute magic. Immediately ordered a physical copy.
funky and good little too artsy around the edges
I love funk 🙏
I was shocked by the amount of sample sounds and establishing noise. It really made the album an atmosphere
This album had moments of perfection and moments of weird chaos. I think it all worked as a cohesive whole although I struggled a bit with the final track sound effects which were rather… juvenile. The good heavily outweighed the bad though and this one has to be a 5/5. Listens: 2 Fave Tracks: Super Stupid, Maggot Brain Rating: 5
This one was really cool.
Superfunky bluesy album!
Funk, hauptsächlich E-Gitarre, merkwürdige Vokals
That one I come back to from time to time. I love the varied styles of each track, start with a 10 minute progressive guitar solo and switch to funk and melodic tunes in the next tracks.
Favourite tracks: maggot brain; can you get to that; hit it and quit it; me and my folks; super stoopid
10 minutes of killer guitar to open. Funky and emotional. Power to the pussy
👍🏻
This was fun to listen to. Trippy in a good way. It’s psychedelic funk, just what a band called Funkadelic should be about. This is really amazing stuff.
Glad I get to listen to this one. I don't think I've ever intentionally heard the whole thing. I remember checking out a Parliament CD from the library when I was in college but Funkadelic, as far as I know, is its own thing. I know a couple tracks here but looking forward to hearing the whole thing. This was a really fun listen. I really liked the five sub-four-minute songs between the two jams. Feels like you can hear a lot of what was to come in rock music, especially in those five songs.
Great
Full of vigor and alternative funk. More rock leaning and an experience to listen to.
Wow wow wow
The intro of the first track is perfect.
Funkadelic is super interesting
Listened to the first couple of tracks. Sounds interesting
i loved it! great guitar, excellent atmosphere and vibe
Eddie Hazel under rated guitar player
The beginning of the collaboration between George Clinton and Eddie Hazel, a duo that would change the genre of funk entirely to something much more atmospheric and alive, with their influences reaching decades into the future. This record is relatively straightforward and accessible, with a long emotional starter and spectacular closer, and short pop tunes in between. For 1971, it's very impressive in production. The title track in particular sounds so clean and multi-dimensional. Influenced by Hendrix, the guitars are layered in pedal effects. "Maggot Brain" places the focus on just one guitar screaming its lungs out in improv, with a backing guitar providing ambience. It's powerful and entrancing. Although not radio friendly with its 10 minute length, it's hard not to just follow the guitar lead and admire what it has to say. "Can You Get to That" lifts the mood, with a sunshine guitar, a cool groovy bassline, a cheery gospel choir, and some fun counterpoints thrown in, giving it a wild and charming personality. "Hit It and Quit It" continues the themes with an even more energetic and crazy performance full of scats that evoke imagery of just people having a good time. Wah guitar is back and features an improv organ. "You and Your Folks, Me and My Folks" slows things down, cool and mysterious but collective and confidence. A simple but mature one, with some amazing outgoing vocal performances. "Super Stupid" is essentially a Hendrix song with the sick guitar solo but more focus on groovy psychedelic instruments. "Back in Our Minds" is a wacky yet chill acid-fueled track with barely audible humorous vocals and a fun psychedelic orchestra. "Wars of Armageddon" is an epic jazz fusion finale, mixing funk, Latin, and jazz on top of musique concrete random sound effects. It's a bit strange and could be seen as dated, but I thought it was executed well and has a ton of character behind it. A few outdated elements, but it's an incredible and highly influential release with not a minute wasted. It's hard not to see this as one of the most important albums of all time.
first one was the most beautiful electric gitar ive heard in a while. the rest killing the same!
Maggot Brain is as fresh as ever. Opens and closes with wild, epic 10 minute tracks, and fills the middle with some of the funkiest cuts imaginable. The guitar work especially stands out. George Clinton and co knew what they were doing. *Heard before.
An easy 5
Anyone talking about GOAT records while not mentioning Maggot Brain is doing it wrong. This is a genre defining masterpiece. It’s honestly still wild to me how little it’s discussed among music fans. Come for the epic guitar solo of an opening track, stay for everything else.
This p-funk perfection—with its scorching soul, indelible grooves, and Hall of Fame Eddie Hazel performance—is required listening for any motherlover lucky enough to be breathing on this thrice-knocked-up planet of ours.
Come on! Come on. Have to. 5
stellar! The guitars and beats were on point and were amalgamated into something I'd never heard before, especially with the last track: wars of armageddon. top 3: can you get to that (TOP FAVV, deep voice guy is incredible, so catchy), hit it and quit it, and super stupid.
Goated. This album just slays from front to back. Funky, visceral jams.
A rich example of psychedelia and funk of time period, that is remarkably current. The title track is a near-cliché of psychedelic rock. It's a dark, beautiful exploration of expression by guitar. It's beautifully played. I hear so much of Bernie Worrell on this album. His style of funk keyboard is a big part of the Funkadelic sound.
I was not offended
I like
Really interesting album, I had heard some of the songs but not all of them in order. You can’t help but have a little boogie. Wars of Armageddon is a trip on its own. I would like to own this on vinyl one day!
holy shit that guitar solo to open the album is soooo incredible. Absolutely mind melting... I can already tell maggot brain is going to be an exceptional album.
It's psychedelic funk...how can you possibly have a better genre than that? Honestly, this is a better rock album than most of the ones in here as well. Just a simply incredible listen with so many moving parts throughout the album. I did not want this one to ever stop. Favorite track: Back In Our Minds
Already knew this was a great album
Some tracks I think could be a bit shorter but overall think this is an album anyone in the world could groove to
Loved this album. Absolutely masterful sound layering. Very experimental and successfully done.
Great funk record to just put on and chill to
The opening solo is a stunner, nearly religious in its intensity. And from there it only gets weirder and more disorienting, when one can't be sure if it's folk, psychedelic rock or funk one's listening to. Throw in some heavily barbershopp-y and gospelly harmonies. And all that's just in the first few minutes of "Can You Get to That"! What a record – easily one of the most rocking of 1971 (see "Super Stupid"), and also very likely the grooviest and most throwin-down (see "Wars of Armageddon"). All that plus fart and poop jokes in the context of a protest song. The whole melting pot of America, with the essential spice of diversity. Mesmerizing in effect, and not only because of the pleasurable satisfaction of revisiting – and totally getting – in late middle age a record whose cover one found half beffudling and half terrifying as a kid and yet somehow knowing better, and perhaps even cluing in to the joke. Plus, one got to interview GC many moons later, in college radio days, when one was still (un)blissfully ignorant of the glories of this record. Such outrageous joy in musicmaking.
I hadn’t listened to this for ages. Forgot how amazing this album is. The title track is obviously a standout. But the whole album is quite special.
SO funky and I love it
One of my favorites. Wars of Armageddon is the only song I could take or leave. The rest I love
this was a great album and i really enjoyed it. funky tunes and great lyrics - power to the pussy indeed. i was planning to only give it four stars but really the only complaint i have is that two of the tracks are 10 minutes long, which isn't really a "problem" per se. good stuff here, I'll definitely revisit it in the future. favorites: maggot brain, can you get to that, hit it and quit it
Gets better each time I heard it! Standouts: Maggot Brain, Can You Get That, Hit it and Quit it, You and Your Folks Me and My Folks, Whole Lot of B.S., I Miss My Baby Others: Super Stupid, Wars of Armageddon 4.5
Amazing album couldn't stop repeating Maggot Brian
Always a great day when you get an album you own a physical copy of. 10/10 Album. No Notes. Maggot Brain is a 10 minute long fever dream, and Can You Get With That is tons of fun.
The title track is borderline perfect, Eddie Hazel was a force of nature
Will come back and add notes later but like...Funkadelic
Funky, spacey, groovy, every good adjective about music. The goat. Eddie Hazel can TEAR UP the guitar dude he goes so crazy.
Super fun album. Great beats and songs. A classic
Great album
I encountered the song of the same name for the first time over 10 years ago on YouTube, when it was put under Charlie Chaplin's final speech as The Great Dictator. It took me a while to find the video again (https://youtu.be/zIBEDsKeTCo?si=I6a2xAxBz_CVWL-1, not even 1000 views lol) - if someone hasn't heard the speech, it's definitely worth a listen, but off-topic. The opening track is just unbelievably powerful, instant five. George Clinton apparently told Eddie Hazel to play the guitar in the first half as if he had just found out that his mother had died, and in the second as if he had just found out that she was still alive. I think you can hear the emotions (and the acid even more so) come through. Bombe! Anyone who's into long guitar solos might also want to check out Estas Tonne. I have to admit, I couldn’t get past the first song, since I listened to it so often.
Funny that it appeared today as I listened to it yesterday. I really love this album and I think it's a masterpiece by Funkadelic. This is an album that I would love to own as I frequently play it. The opening track conveys so much emotion and it's iconic.
Very good, very acid and tripy
That's a helluva lot of cowbell. This album is so batshit crazy that I can't fault it, even when the samples of what sounded like shrieking cats started getting a little grating. Can You Get To That the obvious standout. Just so funky fresh!
First 2 tracks are superb The rest is great too. Between a high 4 and a 5
Yes 👍 4.5+/5
A++
Fantastic with an amazing title track.
Title track - Maggot Brain: Very Hendrix-esque, awesome track!
i want maggot brain to play at my funeral. best tracks: maggot brain, can you get to that, hit it and quit it
This album has no right to lay down this much funk and rock. It’s a combination that should have spurned more of a revolution than it did. These guys absolutely lay down the stank and then Eddie Shreddie plunged them into righteous-ville. Incredible! The last 2 songs songs are a little experimental and wild, but not bad. The album just blasted us with experimental lovin, you’ll see when the farts kick in.
Although technically my first Funkadelic album, I’ve had Mothership Connection, their album under Parliament on the list, and the differences between the two really show. While Mothership Connection was straight FUNK (one of the funkiest things I have ever heard), Maggot Brain is more experimental. For example, the guitar opus of the title track, the uniquely acoustic funk on ‘Can You Get To That’ ,the epic ‘Wars Of Armageddon’, etc. One of the most unique albums of its genre, and one of the finest, too.
7/5 Brilliant and inventive. Endlessly listenable. Music that gets in between the sinews.
Really good, one I'd not heard before.
Amazing song, amazing solo, atmosphere through the roof. How come this album is not one of the most popular ever? I can listen to the titular song on the loop everyday. Rest of the album is pretty good, but this track just elevates the whole thing to the top of this list so far. Great stuff.
one of my favorite albums of all time, words can hardly do it justice, or at least not my words
Gas
I love this album and it is a 10/10 but it's not perfect because acid giveth and acid taketh away. Acid allowed them to create this beautifully weird concoction of sound but it also removes their common sense when making a few of these songs and they just left in parts or chose to pick some sounds that a when you aren't high you hear and say I don't think we needed to include that. Still one of the greatest acid rock/folk/prog. soul albums of all time. What's funny to me is how "Can You Get To That" is now being used in advertisements when they were almost certainly as high as a person could be when making it. Either way great album as I said before 10/10 but not perfect.
Coming into this listen I knew Funkadelic’s Maggot Brain was a highly rated album, but I didn’t anticipate the masterpiece that it is. Aside from maybe a couple of them, the tracks aren’t necessarily to be heard individually, but they work so well together that this record is much more than the sum of its parts. “Can You Get To That” does work individually, and is as complete of a funk song as there is, especially with the multi-layered vocals. If it weren’t for the sexual implications, I can only imagine that Jake and Elwood Blues would have done an epileptic jig to “Hit It and Quit It” in a packed church while James Brown stood by in awe. Throughout “Super Stupid” the guitar hints at Deep Purple, the organ reminds of the Doors, and the vocals channel Jimi Hendrix. The bookends take the album from a cohesive collection of songs to a beautiful piece of art. While only eight lines long, the title track’s Neo-Malthusian lyrics hark back to Jimi’s “Third Stone From The Sun” from a few years before, and forces us to ask ourselves: The world’s population has more than doubled in the interim, and why aren’t we talking about that more? “Maggot Brain” and “Wars Of Armageddon” might be allegories for humanity, and just like humanity, these songs are beautiful, strange, and at points even hard to listen to. The album’s ending foreshadows the end of civilization, but the last few seconds predict that rock and roll will remain the heartbeat of life on Earth even when we’re gone. It may be impossible to capture the whole of human experience in 37 minutes, but Maggot Brain does it as well as you could hope. It can be tough to admit, but we are the maggots. If we have any shot at growing into something like a dragonfly, I guess I can live with that.
Amazing
This album is straight up groove from start to finish. Forgot how much I love it. 10/10
Only found this through 1001ATHBYD and absolutely love. Stone wall classic.
Funktastic
9/10
Amazing. The title track is so different from the rest of the album but I’ve never heard a song with more emotion
Incredible
This album fucks.
I WANNA KNOW
Fire !! Excellent album by the fantastic band Funkadelic
Always a pleasure
This album is an emotional, physiology, psychological, and psychedelic journey. If shrooms were an album, it would be this. The first song is like holy shit - yes Mother Earth is pregnant for the third time & it ain't good. I remember challenging myself to listen to this about a year or so ago, and I'm so glad I did. It's so weirdly funky & poignant it leaves me breathless. It's also jam & dance worthy. Absolute perfection. 5 stars.
Wow. Absolutely loved this album, especially with that opening guitar solo. So much emotion ripping through that! It’s short, just over 30 minutes, but I can easily listen to it over and over. Great album. Listen again: for sure Purchase for my collection: yes Favourite Song: Maggot Brain (that guitar!!!)
So far, I’ve listened to one Parliament album and one Funkadelic album. My understanding is that they are literally the same band, with the same members, just playing under two different names. I know that Maggot Brain is a highly reputable album, so I’m excited to hear this today. Songs I already knew: none Favourites: Maggot Brain, Wars Of Armageddon I’ve read a lot of “Best Guitar Solos Ever” articles over time, including classics like Hotel California and Freebird, but (unless I somehow missed it) I haven’t seen the Maggot Brain track on these. This is a travesty. This had me doing that face jazz musicians do that makes it look like the sure sucking on a lemon (you know the one) with all the juicy music on show here. The album is bookended by two phenomenal tracks, but I did find some slightly less interesting tracks in the middle. Overall, although not perfect, that was a fantastic album and I’d implore everybody to try it.
Fuck it this album is sick 5 stars Kick drums are massive guitar work goes without saying Yup funkadelic
Freaking love it
Not what I was expecting in a good way
The title track opening this album is one-of-a-kind, that's for sure. This atmospheric plea to save Mother Earth is a very current topic, and the latter is mostly conveyed through a tearful 10-minute guitar solo. One for the ages. When you get to the band's funk-rock routine right after this impressive opener, the transition (or lack thereof) is a bit jarring, to be honest. But fortunately, "Can You Get To That", "Hit It And Quit It" and "You And Your Folks, Me And My Folks" are excellent cuts. Their vocals are fun and soulful, and the rough edges of the instrumentation bring a lot of life to the proceedings. This LP loses steam a little on the second side, though. And that rather self-indulgent jam at the very end (ten minutes that are less stellar than the ones of the opener) prevents me from giving Funkadelic a perfect grade 4,5/5 stars, mostly for the record's first side and its historical importance for African-American music. Feeling generous today, so I'm gonna round up that mark to five. If you asked to me choose between team Bill Clinton and team George Clinton, I know for sure which horny sax player I would pick. Next, please. Number of albums left to review: 536 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 223 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 108 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more essential to me): 135
Doom funk.
Hell yes. I'm usually more of a song/melody guy than a groove guy, but for whatever reason this hits the spot.
Funk classic with amazing guitar playing. Title track guitar solo worth 5 stars alone.
FUNKY!
I’d seen this album before as an inspiration to Childish Gambino’s “Awaken, My Love!” so I was very interested to check it out, that along with the groups name ‘Funkadelic’ it seemed this was going to be an album filled with groovy beats and interesting sounds and I’m here for it. The album kicks off with the title track ‘Maggot Brain’ which is a 10 minute mostly instrumental masterpiece that features some of the coolest sounding guitar I’ve ever heard. It did seem a little strange to lead such a short album with such a long intro track but I love the song regardless so I’m not complaining. It’s an atmospheric experience and very clear to see where Gambino got the inspiration from for his album. This is followed up well by the next 2 tracks, the first being ‘Can You Get To That’ which is a smooth track filled with group vocals that you can’t help but groove along to. The next track being ‘Hit It and Quit It’ which is a lot more in your face funk with a guitar and keyboard leading the way. The next 3 tracks follow a similar sort of style, each being particularly groovy in its own way with a shout out the guitar player on ‘Super Stupid’ absolutely rocking that track. The album finishes with ‘Wars of Armageddon’ which, like the opener, is a 10 minute mostly instrumental track but this time we’ve got some wild percussion leading the way with some very impressive drumming filled with an assortment of sounds in the background. It’s a very interesting way to end the album but I think it gives the bands name justice as this is very funky. Honestly I loved this album, it encapsulates everything jazz and funk that I love and does it in such a compact album that they leave no room for filler, couldn’t recommend this enough.
Heard the title track enough times that I was pretty sure I’d enjoy the rest of it. And I did. Even the goofy sound collage at the end (which I listened to twice just to appreciate the high energy performances behind the sounds) May 8, 2023 Album 400 (skipping Yeezus, I’ll hear it when I’m good & ready), Checkpoint reached. Buds are on the branches. Rain’s falling instead of snow. Thankful that the albums I like from this list far outweigh the ones I don’t. Reminder to self: don’t forget to keep an eye on new releases & bands, as fun as it is to explore the past!
I think I've heard every song on this album at least once or twice but somehow I don't think I've listened straight through. Loved it. Right up my alley with the blend of funk, psych, and straight forward guitar shredding. 5/5
This album really blew my mind. I was expecting straight up funk and was met with a crazy psychedelic / funk / rock fusion. And I mean, can we think of a more insane name than Maggot Brain?
God DAMN.
Groovy yummm
With 'Maggot Brain' as the insanely iconic opener and 'Wars of Armageddon' as the chaotic funky closer announcing the end of the world, you might think that the 5 tracks squeezed in between are fillers. But they consist of energetic, catchy pop, funk and psychedelic in just the right proportions. This album deserves all the praise. Although I don't know what the hell 'Back In Our Minds' is.
-Listened to this album before- BFL: Maggot Brain is one of my favourite funk albums of all time (only beaten by “There’s a riot goin on” and “funkentelechy”. The grooves and fills on this are unparalleled and all the musicians are absolutely amazing under George Clinton’s command. Look forward to listening to this one again. AL: Reminded myself of why I love Funkadelic and Parliament so much - will never stop being brilliant - especially the opening track - 10 minutes of funky trippy mayhem
Wild guitar work on the title track, well worth the price of admission. And the fun continues, there's an infectious groove here. Played this about 6 times in a row. Even the cow noises didn't annoy me (neither moo or bell), and I don't usually have patience for this sort of shenanigans.
Amazing stuff. It's so loose and so tight simultaneoulsy. Funky as all get-out, fantastic arrangements, and with great melodies (other than the opener, which I must admit threw me at first). Am almost at a loss for words to describe it but discovering this made my day. So good I played it twice.
Mother Earth is pregnant for the third time For y'all have knocked her up. I have tasted the maggots in the mind of the universe I was not offended For I knew I had to rise above it all Or drown in my own shit. Outstanding album. One of the best things George Clinton ever made. 5/5
I don't think I've been as genuinely sad to get to the end of an album as I was for this album. It is wonderful.
AGHHHHH this is serving guitar solos even I can enjoy!!! The pure emotion in that delivery on Maggot Brain, grabs even the short attention span I usually have for guitar solos and I cannot help but listen in awe. The thought of watching/listening to this live in a field makes me almost jizz. This is one of my favourite albums of all time ever. What some might interpret as lacking cohesion, to me gives diversity and variation throughout the album. Pure EXCITING influential, mind-bending funk. Can You Get to That is an all-time favourite feel-good song, absolutely love it's exuberance and different vocal sections. Also great messages in this and all the other tracks too. LOVE the length of the album it's punchy and fun and doesn't arrogantly try to take up all of your day haaha. In general an album I can 100% get behind!
This really is one of the best albums of all time. It is strange that the song Maggot Brain is so different to the rest but it really is one of the greatest guitar performances ever. It was recorded when the guitarist was instructed to play what he'd play if he'd just been told his mother had died. The rest of the album feels quite different but is also excellent.
Hit It and Quit It
YES! When the other Funkadelic album came up, I saw that this existed. I listened to it right away. I knew Maggot Brain from the Mike Watt album Ball-Hog or Tugboat - J Mascis shreds this into oblivion. After reading about how the song came about, I can feel it. Absolutely loved this.
Very much feels like a natural continuation of the psychedelic sound of the 60s with a smattering of proto-prog and Jimi Hendrix flair.
Where has this been all my life!? Definitely has some… interesting bits. But it works. And parts are just musically wonderful. Just really astute and talented. I enjoyed this one. Not quite five stars but not quite four. I’ll go high to be polite.
Fucking out there. Artistry.
I recently listened to Parliament's Mothership Connection (great party album, five stars!), and it is hard to believe that this is from the same P-Funk collective. It is dark and disturbing, and funky, and funny and scary and rocks pretty hard. The title track is one of the most monumental rock guitar solos. It is bold choice to mix out most of the rest of the band, and to lead the album with a ten minute long single take guitar solo. The album is bookended with the much more up tempo, frantic Wars of Armageddon freak out, that pre-sages Miles Davis' electric albums. The songs in the middle are all winners, although darker in tone than typical for P-Funk. Super Stupid in particular is one of my favourite rock songs ever, and certainly the best Hendrix song that he never wrote. Can You Get To That, Hit It and Quit It, and You and Your Folks, Me and My Folks are all classics, and widely sampled. This album is all widely covered and sampled. showing how influential this record is. Half the band quit after this album (although some of them came back), and they never made another album quite this heavy ever again. And it was probably unsustainable. I love it, classic, five stars. (A small anecdote: I bought my copy of this album mail order in the 2000s from Ernie B's Reggae. Ernie B's stocks both kinds of music: reggae and not-reggae. This was a re-issue on the hipster 4 Men With Beards label. And the stamper on one side was misaligned, so the stylus travels and elliptical track and the record audibly goes out of tune. Very annoying. Ernie B's did refund my money, to their credit, but I have not yet managed to replace my unplayable copy of this album. But here's a tip for all you players at home; avoid the 4 Men With Beards pressings.)
I have tasted the maggots in the mind of the universe.
9.5/10. maggot brain es de las mejores canciones jamas ever. el resto es igual buenisimo pero la segunda mitad watea un poco siento. solo x eso no es un 10 pero dick en bola cambio de opinions dps.
Impossible to overstate the influence George Clinton had on music.
So good from start to finish. Every track here is so solid, but the title track is the real clincher for me. Whenever I'm feeling emotions that I don't have words for, I put this on and let Hazel speak for me through his guitar.
Atmospheric sound with unapologetic groove that really works together to make a distinct and potent record.
я перед запуском: о, будет прикольный фанк я под конец: ебучий психодел ааааааааааааааааааааааа
If Pink Floyd replaced pretension with groove
A very good album, in fact the first one I've put on my liked songs in Spotify
The best
Eddie Hazel. Sure there's more to the album. But Eddie Hazel. Damn. If you can't feel the opening track in your bones, you might be dead already. He brings so much hot emotive fuzz to the proceedings. Whether it's true or not that he was told by George while very high to play as if he'd just been told his mother died, it's a great legend - and very believable. Whatever brought it out of him ought to be thanked. "Can You Get to That" seems like a strange way to come out of that trip but it works! We started with the psychedelic, now we must have the FUNK. From here on out it's a solid mash of both. A perfect synthesis of mind melt and booty shake. Some major highlights of which include the spaced-out reverb-heavy echo of the drums on "You and Your Folks, Me and My Folks" and the hard rock onslaught of "Super Stupid." YMMV on "Wars of Armageddon" but it's a damn fine freak-out jam to close this peak P-Funk session.
OH YEAHHH BABEY YEAHHH this shit is literally perfect lmao i give a lot of albums 5s but this one is a 10,000
Delightfully bonkers.
I love the dark, funky feel of this strange album. A great journey from the long, crazy guitar solo opening track through groovy funk culminating in the trippy “Wars of Armageddon” with its crazy sounds. Felt like I was on some sort of crazy trip - one I’ll be glad to take again!
One of my favs - heater after heater, fun n funky
1/05/23: Just an incredible fucking trip. Every song is perfect from a creative and musicianship standpoint. The drum fills and absolute instrumental carnage in Wars of Armageddon, the crying guitar in Maggot Brain, the sunny vibes on Can You Get to That. I haven't revisited this album in a while and happy that this generator gave me an opportunity to listen to this one again.
Ooooh I love this album! You and Your Folks... is one of my fave songs of all time. But is this FIVE stars? Tough call, but I'm going to go for it. Rounding up because I really love the stand outs, and the less "poppy/funky" tunes are still quality.
100%%%
The guitar solo, despite its iconography within rock, is not inherently cool. I hear you protest, what about Hendrix, or Keith Richards, or Slash? Well, with each of those, I can meet you with three that will cause you to hesitate`visibly before ultimately declaring them uncool. In fact, here we go with 9 lead guitarists who aren't very cool, or aren't quite cool, or just aren't cool: Eric Clapton (dodgy politics, frequent soporific blues), Brian May (consider the next seven words: the rock musical We Will Rock You), Mark Knopfler (headband, anti-punk), John Frusciante (is there a group uncooler than the Red Hot Chili Peppers? Possibly within Christian metal, but even that's a toss-up), Dave Gilmour (I've a friend who'd fuck the young Gilmour, but I listened to The Wall this morn and it's a load of widdle), Pete Townshend (one of the founders of the rock opera genre, so thus a guilty forefather to We Will Rock You), Stevie Ray Vaughn (mainly for the innumerable pauchy American white boys who insist unfathomably that he was better than Hendrix), Prince (do you want to listen to one of the three-disc jazz-funk splatterings he'd wank out thrice a year? God no), and Robert Fripp (yeah, heavily inspired by Segovia, sadly inspired to invent prog fucking rock). So, my point infallibly proven, let's discuss Maggot Brain. Maggot Brain is, in the standard Funkadelic tradition, absolutely plastered with LSD. George Clinton's opening monologue, with its munching the Universe's mind maggots, tells us succinctly where he's coming from. And then we get to the solo. The title track is a 10 minute guitar solo by Eddie Hazel done in one take. As direction, George Clinton told Eddie to play as if his mother had just died, then to play as if she had come back to life. Now, Eddie Hazel and his solo are bang in the middle of cool territory, and Maggot Brain reveals a key aspect which separates the uncool, shrimpy-dicked guitar nerd who's never felt a lady's bumps and the searingly cool guitar hero with a foot-long wanger and a list of sexual conquests bested only by Genghis Khan. Hazel's guitar solo is adept but not flashy. Pretty much all the guitarists on Santa's uncool list seem to think that the quality of the guitar solo is proportionate to the speed of the scales played. Eddie Hazel's solo does not follow that philosophy. His fingerwork is as gorgeously langorous as often as it is hyperactively clustered. And as such, it in no way suffers from the major flaw of the uncool guitar solo: it doesn't feel like a barrage of empty, meaningless notes played fast. The sentiment to the track Maggot Brain feels genuine and spontaneous, and it's a real connoisseur's choice of guitar solo. But that leads to a familiar issue concerning the entire album: like Alice Cooper's Billion Dollar Babies and Chic's Risqué, the rest of the album may shrivel under the shadow of an overbearing opener. So, as I am fair, kindhearted and priapic, I shall now listen to the album except for the first track. See you in half an hour. Of course, the rest of the album features the rest of Funkadelic, and Funkadelic, for all their loony-toon wildness, were a band as tight as an Italian waiter's swimming trunks. And with delight, the other songs of the album boom when taken separately from the title track. You notice the humour of the album, oft immature but no less charming for that. You should also notice, if you're smart, how much of Maggot Brain belongs within hard rock as much as funk. Not only do we have the immensity of the title track's axemanship, many of the other tracks stuff us with blood-red riffs. George Clinton well dug the zeitgeist of hard rock, and so Maggot Brain is that fanastic mongrel of funk, soul, psychedelia and rock so hard you could hammer a nail in with it. NoRadio, signing off.
HAZEL RIPS THE GUITAR LIKE A MF !!!
What a great surprise this album was! I loved that it opens with a ten minute guitar solo that's just wonderful. Sounded almost like a early Pink Floyd, David Gilmore solo.
epic soundtracks
Awesome
Title track is a fantastic extended guitar solo, a bit like Santana - marred only by the spoken sections.
Certified banger
Monstrous record. I just have to give it 5 stars. Perfect blend of psych, acid rock, funk, and soul. The guitar playing on this record rivals Hendrix. Play this, and play it loud!
All hail Eddie Hazel.
Amazing psych/prog/funk. I've heard people say you can find out a lot about someone and their music taste by who they prefer - Beatles or Stones, Lennon or McCartney. I think you can add another one, being Sly and the Family Stone or Funkadelic. I'm firmly in the Funkadelic corner. More out there and adventurous, and crucially alongside the epic guitar freak outs and social commentary there is also a self awareness and sense of humour.
"Maggot Brain" is the third studio album from Funkadelic and the last one with the original line-up. Pyschedelic funk. Funk Rock. R&B. Acid Rock. Progressive Soul. Yes, this is quite an incredible trip. And trip they did as George Clinton doesn't really recall making this album due to a certain something(s). Nonetheless, this is outstanding. Two guitar-heavy jams bookend this album with pyschedelic soul/R&B fusion nestled in between. Is the title the nickname of guitarist Eddie Hazel and/or the finding of George Clinton's brother's body in an apartment. Another myth/theme with the record includes an association with a satanist cult based on liner notes. Mysteries abound. George Clinton begins the song "Maggot Brain" with a spoken-word dialogue "the maggots in the mind of the universe" and then it goes into essentially a nine-minute guitar solo by Eddie Hazel. Fuzz. Wah-Wah. Guitar delay. It's dreamy, pyschedelic. Clinton famously told Hazel "to play like you were told your mother was dead" and boy did he. The second song "Can You Get to That" adds an acoustic guitar giving a folk/blues start and then kicks into soul. The "Hot Buttered Soul" singers from Issac Hayes anchor the song with some outstanding backing vocals. "I once had a life, or rather, life had me." A pyschedelic guitar-start to "Hit It and Quit It." A soul-drenched organ. An R&B rhythm section. Shake your booty!! Another mind-blowing guitar solo fades this song to an end. "Super Stupid" comes on like an Isaac Hayes song. Drums and pecussion give the groove. Pyschedelic organ and guitar. "Wars of Armageddon" ends things with nearly a ten-minute freak-out jam and guitar, drums, percussion, organ. Pyschedelic sounds including a baby crying, railroad guard noise, cows, owls, farts, thunder and other oddities end things appropriately. Some people may think that the first song is almost a separate album from the rest. I disagree especially with the ending song. I wouldn't change a thing. A highly original album. And a very high recommendation.
Starts off heavy with one of the most intense and emotional guitar solos of all time, then reverses course, and goes on to lay down some of the catchiest funk jams known to man. A beautiful slab of manic-depression that I think would make Jimi proud. I'd argue that Parliament/Funkadelic is THE archetype of funk. By comparison James Brown is simply a genre of his own. Incomparable really in how he predated everyone by so far. I'd say he was proto-funk in the same way Iggy Pop was proto-punk. Only other major contender for the title is Sly Stone, and I love Sly, certainly another major pioneer, but he and his Family don't jam nearly as hard, nor were they as eccentric and flat out buck wild as George Clinton and his crew of fearless maniacs. And that's what I think it takes to be truly funky; that no holds barred eccentricity where you can really let that freak flag fly. Holding nothing back. Like straight up just overdub fart sounds into that last track. No fucks given. Definition of funk to me.
Very good guit solos
funk, vario, parti rock pop e eletteoniche
Funk Yea.
What a delight to listen to. I loved it. 5/5
Melted my little maggot brain.
I mean….. it’s a 5. Duh.
Obligatory 5 star on this one. A legendary album that blew my mind the first time I heard it. I still can't get over the title track, it's just incredible. I love how chaotic and psychedelic this ordeal is, even though there is a chunk of coherent songs in the middle. All in all, there were only two tracks on here I didn't love, and the rest were bangers of one kind or another. As much as I wish the whole thing were as psychotic as the opener or closer, it's still an amazing ride. Not sure what the P-Funk purists think of this one, but it's right up my alley. A true classic for me. Kinda shocked I don't have it on vinyl yet, might need to correct that. Favorite tracks: Maggot Brain, You and Your Folks, Super Stupid, Wars of Armageddon, Can You Get to That. Album art: Iconic as hell, and one of my favorites ever I'd say. Truly pretty terrifying, this woman's screaming head poking out of the dirt. Paired with the album title, it's the kind of project that lots of people would be scared to even touch. Seems cursed in the best way. Important to note that this cover was undoubtedly a huge influence on Childish Gambino's "Awaken, my love!" album cover. Donald Glover even mentioned the record in his "what's in my bag" video years before. 5/5
Outstanding
Where do you even start with this? Well start by putting on the incredible title track, then sit back and read up on the album. Or if you don't know the legend of George Clinton & P-Funk start there and go down a rabbit hole. This is an album where one member of the band took part in a 'acid speed eating contest' over 24 hours and never played again. Meanwhile, another band member was kicked out for drug use. If excessive drug use fair play, but I'm led to think it must have been for insufficient drug use This is a band I once saw live who came on stage 7 hours late with G Clinton wearing nothing but a massive nappy So enjoy the stories, sit back and continue listening to Maggot Brain. It's really very, very good isn't it ..
Progressive. Wide range of awesome sounds.
Cool funky album
9/10
Great album 10/10
Funkadelic for sure! First track was my fave, still loved the rest though!
Like it! Surprised it was from the early ‘70s, still sounds relevant today.
Not as purely funky as their later releases, but it doesn’t matter. This is a raw, rip-roaring musical merry-go-round with jaw-dropping guitar work.
This albums so much fun and goofy at times but in a charming way for sure. It feels like one big jam sesh and like half of this short ass album is just straight shredding it goes by way too quick
5 on the back of the title track alone
No explanation needed.
Ridiculously heavy.
Far outtt, mannnn. 🤩
Really interesting. I had heard some of this previously, but never listened to the whole album. I can get with it.
Prefs: Maggot Brain, Can You Get To That, Hit It and Quit It, You and Your Folks, Me and My Folks, Super Stupid, Wars of Armageddon Moins pref: Back in Our Minds (still good)
fankastic
Listened to this on the RS500. This was my second listen of the record. It is awesome.
Increeible
Genius
Buen descubrimiento de disquito: corto pero con un poco de todo, desde psicodelia y guitarras bien pasadas hasta una extraña balada funk. Me cause curiosidad buscar más de ellos y con eso basta para la 5ª.
very cool
Fuck me the title track is stunning.
Excellent album. Listened to it 3 times throughout the day.
One of the best albums ever recorded, simple as that
This album is... many things... musically brilliant, adventurous, groovy, trippy, heart rending, occasionally profound, gleefully weird, and a blast to listen to. There isn't another album like it. Tonally, the album is kind of all over the place, but who cares? The songs are entertaining and riveting to listen to, front to back. The title song is obviously the showpiece of the entire album, worth the price of admission and 5 stars all on its own. It's a darkly beautiful odyssey, an absolute masterpiece. On the flip side, I have a soft spot for the the wackadoo weirdness of "Back in Our Minds" and "Wars of Armageddon," which are both musically clever and just plain fun. "Super Stupid" rocks surprisingly hard, putting a lot of rock bands to shame. That all these songs live together on one album and it somehow works is a marvel. Fave Songs (All songs, from most to least favorite): Maggot Brain; Back in Our Minds; Super Stupid; Can You Get to That; You and Your Folks, Me and My Folks; Hit It and Quit It; Wars of Armageddon
The heaviest rock album P-Funk ever produced is loud, intense, and bursting with psychedelic funk. The first track, an incredibly moving guitar solo performed by Eddie Hazel, lulls the listener into an almost hypnotic state, before giving way to a series of explosive, soul-soaked rockers, culminating in a burning, fiery finale. Standout Tracks: Maggot Brain, Can You Get to That, You and Your Folks, Me and My Folks, Super Stupid
Wow - that is not what I expected. There's something primal in this one.
fucking unreal album. i cannot believe i never had taken the time to listen to this what a dummy i am.
Finest Of Funk
Possibly the best funk album of all time by the best funk band of all time. Blow you mind. Best Tracks: Maggot Brain; Can You Get To That; Hit It and Quit It
Yes yes yes. Funkadelics grown up album. Takes you on a sonic journey through time and space. O lay criticism is that they could've had one song where they just said funk.
Funktastic
The absolute Bible of funk. I think I've listened to this album 4 times this year before it came up in this list. I smack my fingertips like a chef. Mwah!
Big fan of funkadelic. Solid bass grooves, easy to listen from front to back
Jimmy vibe
Holy balls this was good. I’ve heard bits and pieces of it before but never got around to the whole album. What can I say other than DAMN. Funky as hell. When I’m not dancing like it’s my last day, I’m swaying from side to side with my arms extended like waving flags. I will 100% be going back, especially to play drums along with. The drums. Oh my god…
oh hell yeah, I was wondering when I would get this album fuckin love Maggot Brain - 10/10 one of my favorite intros to an album, “Or drown in my own shieet” followed by like the coolest 10 minute guitar solo
Transcendental psychedelic madness in the best way.
Should be longer
Brilliant. It was new to me and I loved it.
Le pondrían 10 estrellas.
Harder than some of the “hard” artists of the day. And huge inspiration for albums even today.
Unique amazing energy. A ton of fun and great vibes. Go read about the intro guitar solo.
Had Super Stupid on a couple of my playlists but not heard the full album before now. Sounds great for 1971 and holds up today. Definitely a rock album with funk influences rather than a full on blend.
Excelent
Loved this. Not listened to it all the way through before but knew a few of the tunes. Found it hard going at first but it takes you on a real journey. A proper album that needs to be experienced from start to finish to make sense.
The album with that fantastic solo of Eddy Hazel
Eargasm!
Have on vinyl, guitar opener is killer. Great all the way through.
Wow! That was fun! Most of it seemed more like rock than funk, though, which surprised me. A great piece of work regardless.
I had never heard of this previously, but damn this is cool. Easy 5, no question.
I enjoyed it.
Extremely good, very funky. First time I've ever thought random fart noises were funny. Laugh-out loud bits and hypnotic jams. Great start!
An experience
love a bit of maggot brain. its got everything, john squire-esque solos, hendrix like tracks, soul train style soul, sleaze, keyboard led prog style tracks and super low barry white bass singing. this is the funk album that all the others should be compared to.
What a delightfully mad bastard George Clinton is. I love this album mainly because I don't understand any of it. And it's actually listenable which can't be said of a lot of Parliament/Funkadelic's output.
Iconic funk album which slays exactly the way it intends to slay. The incredible raw feeling and emotion in the title track alone does it for me, with some nice grooves afterward to come down to.
I have tasted the maggots in the mind of the universe.
Great album by a great band. Funky, groovy, and psychedelic. The opener and title track is an incredible piece of music, setting the tone for the rest of the album. Beforehand, I worried that this and maybe one or two other songs would dominate the record, the rest being mediocre fillers, but I have to say all songs were of top quality. If I would have to point out any issue, I'd say they could have left out some of the silliness; better leave that sort of thing to Zappa.
I listened to this in two sittings. On the first sitting I hated the maggot brain solo, but enjoyed the other stuff. But on the second sitting, I loved the alternate mix of maggot brain. Perhaps I just needed some warm up before the solo 😂
If this album had nothing but the title track it would be legendary. Speaking of which Funkadrlic would seem to be the most unlikely of sources for one of rocks great guitar epics, but there you have it. And the rest of the album while nothing like the title track is still worthy of many many listens. Easily 5 🌟
Holy hell this was a great album. Amazing opener with a 9 minute blues/funk guitar solo. Whole album has a strong groove through it, Super Stupid is a highlight. Back in our Minds has some interesting percussion leading it. I think it was up and down, loved some songs, others were just ok. None were bad though. Added a few songs to the playlist, definitely would go back to his album.
P-Funk 4 LYFE. I love almost every song on this album
Weird and wild and funky as hell. The title track has some of the coolest guitar work I’ve ever heard, and really the guitar shines throughout the whole album. Catchy, funny, funky lyrics add layers to the stellar music.
Sooo good! Love this album. Early funk at its finest.
Loved it. Absolutely my thing
maggot brain.
i love it
That mind melting opening track is really something magnificent... The whole thing is just awesome. Some real heavy bluesy guitar riffs, mixed in with pure mad cap funk.
Classic, seminal funk
My understanding is that this is an essential psychedelic funk album - I concur.
That FUNK. And those FART sounda. But no joke that shit was good as fuck. I dunno how many times I played it front to back.
Stupendous.
Wow!
A masterpiece of epic proportion.
Top notch Psychedelic funk, glad I discovered this here!
Amazing guitar riffs. Great album
DAMN, these songs have some THiCC groove.
Senza regole, pura follia. Maggot Brain devastante.
Best one yet.
j
Yes please. I can get down with this funk. Loved that guitar intro, made me feel like I was tripping in the desert
Crazy guitar solo followed by some funky classics. Some songs don't quite stick the landing, but otherwise it's great. 9
That's a whole lotta BS
Un disco mágico. Funk de verdad, nada de funky
This is a masterclass in every possible aspect. Individual songs take masters of their craft and push them to their best. You and your folks, me and my folks features a stunning bass, and wars of armageddon’s drum leaves you gasping for breath. It feels modern and up to date even now. Benchmark for a perfect album. Discounting additional bonus tracks as just that, bonuses (read: still very good tracks).
Forgot about this gem - should set a reminder to listen to it with the winter solstice or some other oft-forgotten day of import.
hoooooly shit. mind blowing all around.
One of the best I've heard so far.
Awesome record.
Prog rock jams with funk
Absolutely fantastic. A perfectly made album, great tracks and rhythms and just ya 10/10. Epitome of funkadelic
Fun!
Not really a lot of sounds on the album- some jams and a few good songs in the middle. What I have learned is that Parliament > Funkadelic, though both are good.
They’re really just doing whatever they want in the studio. Sounds good though
I knew of this album prior to this listen through but I don't think I've done a top to bottom listen yet. So glad that I did! What soulful tunes. I wanted it to be longer.
Another misleading album name...it was quite pleasant and the Maggot Brain song is just ten minutes of soothing jazz that I very much enjoyed
a few of these tracks actually made it to my playlist :p
Blistering guitar work by Eddie Hazel! He rivals Jimi Hendrix IMHO. I had not heard of this album before but I enjoyed it immensely! 4 stars
Really enjoyable album. The songs between the two book-ends wer the best part - tight, uptemp funk. Some of the more experimental things they do just don't work for me. Maggot Brain is kind of listless, and the random sounds in Wars of Armegeddon really distract (that might be the point, I don't know). If it were just that, I'd give it a solid 3. Then comes Super Stupid. That song is such a banger. Just incredible. Bumps it to a 4, almost a 5.
I've said it before and I'll say it again men are really obsessed with saying the word "pussy" aren't they
The title song is awesome - a kind of stoner atmospheric guitar piece. The rest is very different and more aligned with the band name - funky. Some of it sound like drunk funk, some more spaced out. It’s a 3 star for me but I’ll bump it up a star because of the title song
insane how much this album has been sampled
top heavy maar erg goed
I like P-Funk. My KIDS like P-Funk. P-Funk is great. There's a line between awesome and funky and weird for the sake of weird. This album sort of descends down this elliptical spiral between the two, looping back and forth between incredible head-bobbing funk and dumb druggy crap. Each iteration gets a little weaker as it orbits, but it starts from an extremely high high, pun intended. Great album, but I can't go higher than 4 on something that ends on a fart noise.
A fantastic album that I had already listened a few years ago, but didn't fully appreciate back then. The opening track is insane - searingly sexy, sad, soulful and trippy at the same time, it's the missing link between the best of Jimi Hendrix electric psychedelia and 70s funk. However, the remainder of the album never quite reaches the same intensity again. It's still very nice though, and I love the fact that they seem to have so much fun experimenting (they were obviously very, very high for Wars of Armageddon...). I'm much more receptive to P-funk now than before, and I will absolutely listen again. Hard choice between a 4 and a 5 ; I'll have to listen a couple more times to make up my mind. 8/10
It's far more than the opening Maggot Brain! the following tracks are great. So groovy !
Funny how this album is mostly praised for the title track and not so much for the rest. I actually love almost all of it. The mix is fantastic, the songs still sound surprisingly modern, and Super Stupid is an absolute killer. Only the last two tracks lose me a bit, they’re either disappointing or just too psychedelic for my taste. Great album overall.
Mostly really good but probably has more fart noises than is strictly necessary
Interesting sound I recognize why Childish gambino took inspiration from this to make awaken my love
3.5/5
i guess i would appreciate more if i was a guitarist... its one of those songs that i need to look up what it truely trying to convey~ unrankable
The first track was so smooth on guitar, and some song near the end had some good writing. I could stick it on in the background.
Really good guitar solos, DAMN!! Fun listen
im not particularly fond of long guitar solos but this is more than alright. title track and wars of armageddon are both solid and bookend some really fun funk. also wasnt expecting super stupid to go so hard on the rock part of funk rock
I was expecting something more funky and less acid rock but I still liked it, especially the title track.
Great, very pleasant all around. Moving first track
I was not expecting this album to be so jammy and lacking vocals. When I am used to parliament over funkadelic, this was a change and I liked it.
What a wild album. I enjoyed the first track immensely, most of the actual funk songs fine and that last song is just very weird?
Perhaps the best (only?) example of a funk album that is equally an amazing hard rock, psychedelic, and progressive rock album. From the out-there concepts to that blistering guitar solo, not much compares to Maggot Brain. Almost a five star review for me, but reserving that for their later Parliament Funkadelic era. 4⭐️
This is not what I expected. I love it! 1. Super Stupid 2. Back In Our Minds 3. Wars Of Armageddon
Entertaining album and a lot more Guitar oriented than I was expecting. A bit repetitive sometimes though and the last track went a bit too far! Great lead guitar playing on the opening track.
pleasantly surprised
Honestly. FUNK!
Knowing Funkadelic only by name, I did not expect a psychedelic rock album. Raw, chaotic and also a little funky. Like it. Fav: Maggot Brain
The first song was a 10/10 and then the next 5 were very palatable with the last song being fart noises. What range!
This was supposed to be a 5 but the background noise bullshit in Wars of Armageddon was a bit annoying.
a very good start
Deze plaat is echt weird. Ik ga wel lekker op dat experimentele. Intro was chill en Armageddon was weirdly funky.
Ik vind het een goed album. Experimenteel regelmatig echt hele goede nummers. Hit it and quit it vond ik heel leuk.
Yep!!!
I enjoyed the other Funkadelic album that was on this list and was sad the songs were not on Spotify. This is another really good Funkadelic album and it is hard to say there is another artist exactly like them. I had not heard Maggot Brain (though had seen the cover many times) and so this was my first real listen. I enjoyed it, perhaps not as much as One Nation Under Groove, but this was another really eclectic group of songs. Funkadelic has been one of the nice surprises for me in this project, simply because the music combines so many genres I enjoy. My favorite songs: Maggot Brain Can You Get to That Hit It and Quit It Back in Our Minds
would be insane to listen to while high
