Popular Reviews

I had me a well deserved smoke after a long drive while listening to this one. I sat in my backyard watching the cemetery behind, thinking about how ill be the same one day. The trees round me started staring as I realized that nature will last far longer than I. The rocks and trees don't feel like we do, but maybe they are just as alive. They come into existence and have a purpose that is always fulfilled one way or another. They evolve, take different forms. Leaning on my wooden fence I thought about the young sapling it once was. I could for a moment feel it breath under the weight of my arm. Looking down, I wonder if the dirt knows it's alive. If it were, would it ponder the significance of its own life and be satisfied? I think it would be glad to watch everything evolve: live, grow, prosper, die. If dirt could think, it would be closer to God than we are.

Woke up this morning, punched my alarm clock. Got in the bathroom, grabbed my toothpaste and I punched it. It splattered all over the mirror so I punched that too. Drove to work, punched in the time clock. Then I made some coffee and punched that too. It got all over my boss. He started yelling and I punched him. Got fired but didn't care. Came home, punched my wife. Kids got off of school, punched them too. Punched my dog, punched my dinner, punched my pillow. This album gets five punches out of five.

I hated this album tbh. Could've done without the kidz-bop song halfway through. The last song sounded like if you searched "plants vs zombies type beat" on YouTube. Production was at least decent but oh my the vocals I'm glad I am dun da da dun dun dun with this one. Gonna go listen to that industrial German yelling album🤘

Parts of this album were pretty good and no doubt there is no lack of skill behind it. I just find the genre unappealing and the length of this album to be a crime against my free time. Didn't hate it. Not gonna listen again tho

If you don't like this you just probably don't get it. Bowies best talent is producing new styles with each project. Here he tries contemporary rock pop using influences from Jazz, Funk, and Punk. Is it Bowie at his best? Hell. Yeah. Bowie has nearly a dozen perfect albums. There's a reason why he's the GOAT.

Pretty good but a little disappointed. I might be in the majority but I don't care for After Hours. No instrumentals which is kinda what I dig about VU and vocals from the drummer? I get that its different and outsider music and the lyrics are deep but it's just kinda mid to me. Other songs are great, like What Goes On, Murder Mystery, Candy Says, and Pale Blue Eyes. The rest is kinda falls short of hype this band has earned. Excited to hear VU with Nico and White Light, which I think are more experimental

Aug 29 2024

Honestly not the greatest, but has a lot of iconic moments. Ghost is a top 5 rapper in my opinion, so it has to be great, but it's not even his best. Everyone will point at Ironman and Supreme Clientele, but check out bulletproof wallets. Still features great production from some G.O.A.T.s. RIP DILLA , RIP DOOM, RIP ODB, LONG LIVE GHOST and WU TANG FOREVER.

Hot Rats by Frank Zappa
Sep 03 2024

My favorite part about Frank Zappa is just how deep the rabbit hole goes with him. He has several 5 star albums that vary in style and theme but somehow always sound like him. He's got the skill to match any prog-rock or jazz composition legends. Most impressively he has managed to create multiple bands featuring and fostering top tier players in the industry. Flo n Eddy, Adrian Belew, Steve Vai, George Duke, Ruth Underwood, Ian Underwood, Chester Thomson, Jean Luc Ponty are all world class musicians. These artists have solo careers and went on to play in bands like King Crimson, Talking Heads, Genesis, and Mahavishnu Orchestra. He's played with Pink Floyd before; that's a good watch on youtube. He's covered now obscure Doo-Wop legends but also Led Zeppelin. Frank Zappa fought the PMRC and took on many senators wives. There's just so many strings to follow with this interesting fellow. Anyways, my top 5 FZ songs are probably Black Napkins, Whats New in Baltimore, Sofa, Peaches and Watermelon. Favorite albums are OSFA, Roxy, Sleep Dirt, Wazoo, Them or Us, Uncle Meat, and the sublime Freak Out! Favorite deep cut is Revised Music for Guitar and Low-Budget Orchestra RIP FRANK

Unfortunately I am going to join the many haters of this album. Not that it is entirely bad or pointless, but that I don't enjoy it. I would much rather listen to classical German music which this is based on. I understand that genre is influential but is this album? Maybe to Ute Lemper Punishing Kiss, but I also don't like that album. Pretty sure Nick Cave and Tom Waits and others were making music like this before, so I just don't get it. I did go down an interesting rabbit hole of classical German from this though. I'm interested, but not in this. Sorry but some albums have to get a 1 to make the 2s count for something. At least you made the book.

To anyone who doesn't "get" Nick Cave.. I didnt (still dont kinda) really fw it either. It's pretty hardcore and definetly not for casuals. It takes some time to get into it. But this is really him at his most beautiful and reflective. Give it some time, a few years maybe and you could find yourself liking it. Just don't write it off because its hard to listen to. When I started this listening journey I was not looking forward to it and also questioned why he had so many albums, but I think there's value in seeing an artists evolution, especially when they are as influential and long lasting as Cave. Also it would be really boring for an artist not to evolve their sound like most bands eventually do, so I really understand having to listen to like 5 Nick Cave albums and a few from his bands.

Cigarette moms everywhere love this shit though. I remember one lady I worked with her favorite song was Loser by Beck. Having a loser complex I guess is something cool in the 2000's? Idk bro maybe if you didnt listen to the worst music ever maybe your personality would be more likeable. Gonna go jork it to some Miles Davis or Mingus just to feel superior ✌️
