Nice backround jazz

Smooth music in a restaurant. You get up to use the restroom but instead you break into the bossa nova.

All day background music. Loved it.

I love this album because it is calming yet upbeat and puts me in a good mood. I especially love e luxo so

Wonderful bossa nova album. Pretty accessible as far as jazz goes, and lovely interplay between sax and guitar. Noice.

Turns out I enjoy a bit of bossa nova.

Ideal for music in shops, hotels, and lobbies. My favorite is “Bahia” because the same music with lyrics was used in the Disney film "The Three Caballeros".

прикольный джазец на фон

I like it very much. make my day better

Easy going entry into jazz

Stand Out Tracks: Desafinado - An easy going mid-morning drive down the coast on a breezy summer day. Windows down, top open. Stop for coffee and fly kites with the kids. Samba Trieste - A good smoke at a quiet bar.

Gran jazz, me hizo bailar mientras trabajaba.

Good listen, several familiar tunes.

I love this album, I ve had it for a few years now - good to play it through this morning - Getz/Byrd - great combo

Great for a relaxing time, some songs have spatial audio which make them even better.

Very nice 4

nintendo music in the best way

Classy if formulaic Samba. Effortless musicianship, great listen

This process has extended my taste to appreciate more middle of the road stuff like this. Previously I would have turned my nose up at anything like this that probably fits under the easy listening umbrella. A lot of the five star reviews value its utility as music that you can half ignore but I think that's a bit of a shame. The playing and the sound are largely softer than my usual jazz heroes but there is still passion, beauty and ingenuity in there. Mind you I'd still swap one of the bosses nova records in here for some Sun Ra or another Mingus album or a Miles 70s live fusion album.

8 songs 35 mins, 1962 jazz album. i like a lot in a dark lit bar, sipping on a margarita. as you finish you ask the bartender to get you one more, but the person sitting beside you puts it on his tab ands asks you to dance to the saxophone playing in the background. you agree, and a spotlight illuminates the two of you. notable mentions:

Nice jazz album and will consider adding to my ever growing jazz vinyl

Amo el jazz

Sounds like Papa. Great easy listening sax/guitar jazz

i enjoyed this very much.

bardzo fajne

Was definitely something different compared to what I listen to but I enjoyed it!

bardzo dobry jazz

I found out I be loving good Samba

Refreshing, bright, calming and relaxing album. Each song expresses a different feeling without the need of words. Desafinado - 8/10 Samba Dees Days - 8/10 O Pato - 8/10 Samba Triste - 7/10 Samba De Uma Nota So 7/10 E Luxo So - 8/10 Bahia - 7/10

Really cool. I don’t know much about Jazz so this was a nice segue into it. Whoever is playing bass kills it, along with Byrd on the guitar.

The bossa-nova/samba craze from the '60s is intriguing, but it has never excited me. I first became aware of it when lounge had a brief resurgence in the mid-to-late nineties. I've always thought that the music was good, but that its appeal was based on kitsch, which even the landmark Getz/Gilberto album couldn't overcome. I liked it; I just think it's a little boring. But Jazz Samba is a different animal altogether. The addition of Charlie Byrd lends some creative force to the compositions. The record is still very chill, but it's more challenging than the other bossa nova albums I've heard. Four stars.

Lovely smooth tones and impressive musicianship. I personally enjoy some vocal features and feel this would have stood out nicely on one or two tracks to offer something a little different.

Just nice instrumental jazz

jan 1 2026, first listen [during o pato] chill as fuck. jazz isnt a genre ive explored much of, but im enjoying what im hearing so far [during bahia] i think "pleasant" is the best word to describe this album. its not too calm that itll bore you to tears, and its not avant garde to the point where itd turn someone unfamiliar with jazz and its associated subgenres away from giving the album a full listen. think this is the perfect album to put on if you just want to give yourself some nice background noise without it feeling like muzak. i can see myself putting this on again in the future whilst im reading something

Jazz is not my genre but this was really pleasant background music while I reading, will keep it save to my library

Truly jazz samba! Loungey and easy but also interesting and makes u wanna move your shoulders. Warm and cozy

This was just the perfect album for today! Friday, Jan 2, 2026, first day back at work (from home) after being off for two days over the holidays and catching up on old emails and planning the year with this as background music. So therapeutic! This project has made me discover how much I love the Basso Nova vibe!

Mixing on track 1 has the sax? on left speaker strangely, guitars/strings on the right speaker. Massive volume diff between track 1 and 2, need to turn on volume equalization. Guitar tone on track 2 is great. Track 3 is there, no comment. Track 4 is nice Track 5 the bass is almost trippy, the track is there not much comment Track 6 the drum intro is groovy, at this point I question if I like saxophones. The guitar complements/plays along the sax very well Track 7 the bass is just an odd rhythm

Wonderful. For music without lyrics, this is about as good as it gets. This is going into my regular rotation.

As a Brazilian, I can say that Bossa Nova is one of the finest musical gifts Brazil has given to the world. I rated it a 4, not because of its quality, but because I found myself missing the presence of lyrics. I understand that this is not the album’s intention; rather, that feeling comes from my familiarity with these songs in their lyrical form, which made the purely instrumental approach feel emotionally incomplete for me.

Der Name ist Programm

Didn’t like it as much as his other one but still a solid instrumental album that gets 4 bc it’s less than 45mins

Great for certain slow days

copacabana. caipirinhas. reruns of miami vice. 1. Desafinado **** 2. Bahia **** 3. O Pato *** 4. Samba Dees Days *** 5. Samba Triste *** 6. E Luxo So *** 7. Samba De Uma Nota So ** Four-and- half stars if they’d let me. ***** - Best of the Best **** - Very Good *** - Decent ** - Average to Below Average * - Awful % - Straight Garbo

Phenomenal, some amazing stuff in there. Will add to my playlist for future listens. It's just a great piece to listen to when you want to enjoy the world. 8.5/10

Definitely a very accessible and just pleasant album. Every song is pretty much perfectly executed, but they’re all based on pretty similar ideas and they ultimately end up being slightly repetitive. Stan Getz has great tone, but he does dominate every song which doesn’t stay as interesting for the entire album when you’re really consciously listening to everything. Charlie Byrd’s guitar is probably my favorite part of the album. His rhythm stuff is very very good and I wish he soloed even more, because his parts are probably my favorite. It would be nice if there were more soloing instruments for the sax and guitar to play off of, maybe more dynamic bass playing or a piano to give contrast. That would definitely make each song more unique and add to the album overall. I don’t know enough about Bossa Nova to know how Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd’s versions of stuff compare to the Brazilian originals, but it would definitely be nice to have those albums on the list too. Standout Tracks: I don’t know if any song is distinct enough to really stand out, but my favorite was probably Bahia

Love getz's unique tone, you can tell its him, some great tunes that feel quite individual in a style that I find can be sometimes repetitive.

Always find curious how the greats cab create this unique sound, classic album, only thing is that these songs have been heard everywhere so it feels like listening elevator music.

I feel like with jazz you can never go wrong. It’s so soothing. Worth every listen 9/10. One point missing because it’s just not my preferred genre.

Dangerously close to elevator jazz in the beginning, but turns out to be a very good listen.

Ja wel lekker jazzy met samba

This would sound great on vinyl for brunch service.

Not bad. Some good study songs here. It does what it's trying to do about as well as it can be done.

This album came out on my birthday, when I was 2 years old. I had heard of the musicians, but had never heard the album. It's really good!

immmmmmaaaaculate vibes bro js pass me the martini and let me bask in the sun on the beach

Some nice jazz music

Agréable mais trop homogène.

A pleasant and lovely album. Great stuff

Pretty much the soundtrack of a 1960s romance or spy movie set in Monaco or on the coast of Italy or something

Initial thoughts- Sounds heavenly in headphones oml Track 1: Loved how the instruments sounded like they were singing and the different parts in my ears were satisfying to hear Track 2: More upbeat and jazzy I love the sax(?) solo Track 3: I like how the title means "duck" and it sounds like a duck waddling around. I like the guitar solo a lot and how it sticks out but is simple in the background. Very abrupt ending Track 4: More romantic and upbeat but still sad and sounds like it would be fun to dance to (hence the name "samba triste") Track 5: Transitioned nicely from the last song but felt repetitive. Track 6: Felt like a duet between the sax and guitar which was a cool effect. Not too long or repetitive Track 7: Cool rhythms created with the percussion and guitar in the background. Another fun dancing song. Cool bass rhythm at end Track 8: Same as track 1 but funky Final thoughts- Really good musicality and energy with fun techniques. I liked the different moods and times where each instrument got to shine. The audio quality felt so clean and crisp

Excellent album with real classics

Calming, Classy, and Fun.

Not my genre but for some reason I loved it !!

Just effortlessly smooth. It's not the most exciting jazz album I've heard, but it's just such a smooth and chill listen. Accessible by jazz standards, but still enough in here for jazz lovers to grab on to. Fun instrumentation. A treat all around.

Very fun and uplifting! Jazz always makes me happy. I listened as I read. Would listen again.

pretty fascinating and pretty relaxing. need that sometimes

Cool vibes Daddyo...

Not bad to be honest

Ladies and gentlemen, it's the white boy bossa nova show!

fantastic jazz album, honestly no flaws i don’t understand rating conventions

The vibes are so good on this album. I'm not doing it justice listening on a cold day in December. This is a summertime masterpiece. 8/10

Will listen to this now.

Hot rhythms!

V v v enjoyable stuff, was particularly nice to listen to in fragile mentality. I probably need to spend some time learning more avout jazzzzzzzzzzzz. And then i’ll be even MORE cool GOD I’d be unbearable. 4.3/5.0 Best song: Samba Dees Days

tek jedan problem: prekratko traje!

When I was in college I worked at a restaurant with an attached book and music store. We were only allowed to play jazz, classical, and Latin music. Apparently this was one of the CDs we had on deck, because every song on this album, in order, made me feel like I was back behind the bar there. There are other albums from that job that I've listened to outside of the restaurant, and they remind me of that time, but I have other memories built around them. This one was like listening to a distilled memory of that time and I loved it. One last thing, and I say this about a lot of stuff, but this sounds like the fishing game music from Club Penguin (complimentary).

Ah, smooth and relaxing. With a mug of tea, it's the perfect way to start a monday morning.

Surprisingly a great album. Really easy to listen to.

Slowly getting into Jazz. This album is very chill and sweet. I like how the guitar and the sax constantly switch parts. I mean, if I am wealthy enough to open a cafe, this should be on my Thursday night playlist.

Feels good

Listening to this album makes me feel like I’m the girl from ipanema. Really great bossa nova. Really good album. I wish I was on vacation sipping a cocktail while listening. 4 stars.

Loved this album - Stan Getz has such a unique voice on the sax with his airy tone, perfectly suited for bossa nova and Latin music. Very accessible and listenable jazz for people who are not hardcore fans…Charlie Byrd cooking too.

W zasadzie to jest to przyjemny album. Tak sobie wyobrażam jazz jeśli ktoś by mnie zapytał.

Very nice. Kind of like the gold standard that Muzak tries continuously to achieve (and consistently fails): something pleasant that you enjoy.

Love this. I might be a San Getz man rather than a Miles Davis or Charly Bird man - i guess we’ll find out. This music is easy and fun to listen to and i will always put them on!

Recognised a lot of songs from their use in films

This was quite a bit different from the last Getz album, which was a bit more vocal and guitar forward (no surprise given Gilberto's pairing). But this was a cozy jazz album all the same. The saxophone shines throughout and a few of the songs provided some standout jams: Samba Dees Days, Samba De Uma Nota So, and closer Bahia. Nothing more to say than this was a cool album. 4 / 5

Great chill

*Samba is not my favorite genre, but Getz's saxophone tone is so smooth and perfect for it *I'd like a little variation from a jazz album and that's the only thing keeping it from a 5

A quick bossa nova album that pioneered the genre and was generally okay for the most part. This is grandparent music :)

Familiar with it already, great album.

Jazz!! Bleurghh. Actually no skips so good.

Well, wasn't that totally lovely?

Makes me want to drink caipirinhas on a beach.

I liked this far more than I expected to. The samba vibe is usually a bit too laid back for me but this was not just pleasant, but interesting.

8/10 I came into this not quite sure what to expect. I went through a time in my life where I listened to a fair bit of jazz, and still take the time to indulge now and again, but the reference to samba in the title would probably have steered me slightly away from this historically. I’m not sure why, really, but there you go. The truth is, I would have been wrong to sidestep this. Almost as soon as it got moving, the quality of the musicianship just jumped out of the speakers. Stan Getz typically takes the lead and struts around, but when the two of them weave their playing around one another, it’s an absolute joy to behold. The little references to each other’s playing, the harmonisations and the back and forth are so good. The nuance in the sax playing is top drawer, and Getz can go from a laconic, laid back drawl of a sequence into something with real zip and vigour and take you on the ride with him with every note. The first time I listened to this, some of the backing musicians kind of got lost, as the main two are pretty prominent in the mix, but on second run through, I pushed the volume to get a bit more clarity on their work and boy was that rewarding. The louder I had it, the better it got. It’s easy to miss the depth of sound to the rest of the band (two bass players and two drummers/percussionists? Yes please), but when you push the levels, the clarity of this just opens up and delivers a really compelling and full sound, and a greater appreciation for the quality of the work. There were the odd moments where things did wander a little to f for me, but those moments were fairly fleeting, and they soon pulled things round. It’s not getting top marks, but it’s definitely getting more spins and might even move itself up in my opinion the more I listen. Desafinado - The sax playing here is so deft and subtle that it sounds almost simple, but there’s a lot of understated complexity to it. Some of the runs and motifs are absolutely delightful, but it’s never overdone. The guitar is also excellent and brings a nice change of pace, but the sax is the star of the show here. It wanders around with purpose drifting through the movements with the rest of the band in an effortlessly cool way. Samba Dees Days - There’s a bit more zip to this one. I fell it does ramble around the core motifs a little more, so does drift a little far here and there, but it does gather things up now and then to keep things centred. The back and forth at the end is great though. O Pato - We get a lovely little swing to the groove here. Stan and Charlie dance around each other in a really beautiful way when they’re playing together. There’s moments where we get to focus on each instrument, and Charlie Byrd gets a bit more focus with a couple of solo sections, but when their playing intertwines, there’s magic in the air. Samba Triste - And now on to something a bit more sultry. There’s some fantastic guitar work in the middle of this, while the guitar has its solo section. The rhythm section takes a bit of a back seat in general on the album, but the quality of the bass did reach out to me here, which was nice. We also get some more of that understated sax playing that’s not too showy but full of emotive nuance. Samba De Uma Nota So - Some of the runs on the sax here are just brilliant, I can almost hear Getz smirking as he glances out over the mouthpiece at the rest of the group. And we get some bass soloing too! It’s quite low in the mix, which is a bit of a shame, but it’s there. It might perhaps be lost a bit because it’s only one of the basses soloing while the other plays some simple lines. Or maybe they just want this cranking. Happy to oblige. There’s a nice amount of extra percussion to add a bit of bounce and movement, and I couldn’t help but get a bit lost in it, which is what really good jazz can do. E Luxo So - We’re back to something with more fizz to it again. The way the sax takes its time before launching into moments of intensity is lovely, and there’s some of my favourite guitar work on the album here too. Some of the note runs between chord changes in particular are just gorgeous. This is a proper toe-tapper, but it has enough nuance to push and pull the feel about in a really satisfying way. What a lovely track. Baia - This has more of a shuffle to it, but again, that push and pull between Getz and Byrd is so good. Things do drift a little here and the middle section gets a tiny bit bogged down and muddy while Stan wanders around and the focus just gets pulled a tiny bit, which is a shame. It’s the kind of thing that’s a bit more excusable with this being a longer cut, and it does pull things back around for the final third, where we get some more brilliant interplay between the two.

Just my speed.

Smooth. So fucking smooth.

Ahh, jazz. Fun listen as good jazz often can be. What often ALSO can be with jazz, is a lot of it comes off as noodley and wanky, which this kind of gets at times. Not a big emphasis on hooks or refrains or anything. But that's jazz. I also say that as someone who doesn't listen to a ton of jazz, and probably like "mainstream" jazz, whatever that is.

- Desafinado is pretty chill, not a jazz listener but I like the saxophone and the guitar riffs - Samba Dees Days, much more upbeat. Suitable for dancing. - Samba Triste - laid-back atmosphere, very calming.

Pleasant, chill. Not very dynamic. Leans heavy into the bossa nova/samba vibes.

This was smooth and easy listening. Felt like I was listening to some of the background music in the original Sims. Big tick for me.

Samba! Enjoyed this one a lot.

enjoyed this one thank you very much

Galen produktion för 1962. Bra grejer

This would sound equally good playing on the turntable on a Saturday afternoon with the windows open as serving as background soundtrack while working on a weekday afternoon. Its tropicalia vibes will be a nice salve on a gloomy winter's day.

Between this and brubecks Time out, I'm ready to embrace my inner Don Draper. I'll play this at my next suburban cocktail party, surrounded by mid century modern furniture and John Updike first editions.

It's not often that white people are able to take something from another culture and do a faithful re-creation of it, but that's what happens here. The album is exactly what it says it is, some jazz samba bossa nova music. And it's really quite good. I don't think any of the songs stand out particularly against one another, so a favorite song is more of what's your favorite flavor of bossa nova. A more attentive listen through might be able to pull out some more specific details from each song, though. Favorite Song(s): Samba Triste

Another perfect album to listen to on a beautifully sunny Sunday morning while drinking coffee. 4/5

This samba was so good. I could listen to more or this. I listened to it twice.

This is a fun, upbeat album, with a lot of texture and movement. It's not my favorite kind of jazz, but it's not "elevator jazz" and is something I could see myself putting on during a dinner party or when doing something around the house, which is when I mostly listen to jazz.

understated, suffers from all the bad copies of that style that would follow. very competent.

not a big fan of jazz but I love the album.

I think doing this challenge has made me discover that I just loved this chilled out jazz shit.

Fantastic vacation vibes. This album makes me want to sip a sultry cocktail.

This is a gorgeous record, and single handedly responsible for the US bossa craze. That said, it’s ultimately just very pretty and brilliantly performed background music. There’s no real innovation or originality, nothing here moves beyond the four corners of the compositions, which are all written by Brazilian artists save one Byrd original. Maybe a bit harsh here, but I’ll take Getz Gilberto over this every time

Never boring but never interesting enough to really grab me. Got into the second track before I realized it had started over after the first play through.

Really nice to listen to.

Really good jazz album, will listen again!

A real nice album to have shuffling along in the background. After getting the a Sinatra/Jobim album I keep on expecting Ol' Blue Eyes to join in and ruin in.

Favorite Track: Desafinado

I'm not a fan of Jazz or Samba, but this Jazz Samba album, I think, might be my gateway into other albums from these genres. Perfect to end my day after a long work.

Really good. Great band, surprised that I hadnt heard this before because it seems to be a classic. But, I really enjoyed this.

awesome

i like jazz and this is good light jazz

Do I like Stan Getz or do I just like bossa nova? We may never know.

- Listened to this all the way through twice - Never been one to actively seek out jazz to listen to, but I do listen to Stan Getz’s “The Girl from Ipanema”, so I knew this would be good - Perfect for both listening with earphones to focus solely on the music as well as having it as background sound - Favourite songs were “Desafinado” and “O Pato” - With jazz, especially since i’m not trained with a musical ear, some songs will always tend to sound a bit similar; I don’t mind since all the songs are nice

Erinomaista hyvän mielen taustamusaa!

Очень приятный джаз, отлично подходящий для создания уютной домашней атмосферы. 7 из 10.

I mean, what's not to like? Great ambient music. Not a 5 because I'd rather listen to actual Brazilian bossa nova, preferably with vocals

I knew this album would be baller before I heard it. A beautiful sax and guitar based bossa album, not a single bad track and it's just vibe after vibe

Nice, quaint jazz album that is soft and sweet. Brilliant music to have in the background, but still stellar in the foreground.

Great waiting room music

Canzone preferita E Luxo So.

The only kind of jazz I like. Really easy to listen to, smooth, nothing jumpy. A few iconic songs in this album too. 8/10

Wonderful album for background music. I'd buy it on vinyl but not cd. I'm giving it 4 because of it's historic legacy.

Pretty fantastic album of chill music.

Separating Sax and Guitar to two separate spaces on the soundscape works for me. The baseline went for a walk and ate.

I could listen to this all day.

Desafinado is super famous...I think I'm going to like this. It's like the background music in Don Draper's house. This is more like background music, but it's not a bad listen...very relaxing. I like this, I could definitely see putting this on when I'm trying to focus.

- Macht richtig gute Laune - Hier fehlt mir nicht mal der Gesang - Zu dieser Musik an einem schönen Sommerabend einen guten Cocktail trinken 🔝 Topsong: Samba Dees Days

Man, that is GOOD. Why am I getting so many amazing albums recently? I feel like I am too generous.

This album is like agreeing to go to your friends open-mic night at a local cafe slash lounge bar. You never really thought of her as much of a comedian, and you were right not to, because its not open-mic comedy that this place hosts, it is open-mic poetry. You're not sure about this, but it is a quiet Thursday night, the place has a liquor license, and you don't have any meetings tomorrow at work. You head in together and sit down at a small table for two. It is only now that you notice this place is quite funky. You have come here for a Saturday morning coffee a couple of times, but after dark it becomes quite a different place. Your friend goes to check in with the organisers, and offers to grab you a drink while she is up. You ask for a rum and coke. After a while she comes back with your drink and sits down. "They don't have actual Coke, so this is a rum and organic Cola". You stifle a groan and instead thank her. It doesn't taste good, so you tell yourself you'll get a negroni next time. There's no substitute for gin, Campari and vermouth, so they can't mess that up. While you make small talk with your friend and look around the room, noticing the cool art and album and movie posters from a bygone era, the lights dim. The host, a relatively short woman with thick brown hair and olive skin, walks to the microphone and welcomes you all to the evening. Is that a Hispanic accent? Ohhh yes it is. You are a big fan of her, and a big fan of this place. Your friend notices you gawking at this host. After a couple of surprisingly good poems, your friend gets up and reads hers. It is pretty good, but it is quite long. She keeps carrying on about her feelings of unrequited love for a close friend of hers. You don't really get it, but it the words flow well and the rest of the small audience clap politely, so you assume it was good. When is that host coming back though? Your friend sits down and you offer to get the next round. Negroni for you, house sav for her. Nothing wrong with a girl who enjoys a competitively priced wine. The host takes the stage, and thanks the audience before giving a special thanks to everyone who performed. She is keeping her right hand tucked over her left hand in front of her while she speaks, so you can't make out if there is a ring or not. You stay for a few more drinks and have a good yarn with your friend. Sadly, the host seems to have cleared out, so you'll just have to wonder what could have been. After a few more drinks, the conversation with your friend flows on really well. Not surprising, given you are good friends and have been for a while. Eventually you both decide it is probably time to head home. You both book ubers and wait on the footpath together. Hers arrives first, but before she gets in to it, she thanks you again, gives you a hug that lingers for a while longer than usual, and then gives you a sheepish kiss on the cheek. Pretty weird, you think to yourself - as you guys don't normally do that. Oh well, you were supportive tonight, and she obviously appreciated that. With your uber about 300m away, you notice the host walking out of the bar, making a bee-line to her car. Where had she been?! You run over and tell her this was the first time you had been to one of these nights, and you really enjoyed the work that she puts into it. She looks at you with her wide brown eyes, smiles, and says she hopes to see you again next week. Taking a page out of all of the poets books, you decide to bare your emotions to her. "I'd like to see you sooner than that actually", you say. She smiles, giggles a little bit, and then points out that your uber has arrived. That wasn't a no, so you'll be back next week.

I want to cook a pasta dish in my kitchen while listening to this. The garlic is fragrant, the golden hour light is pouring in through the windows, my husband is nearby and we are both dancing and moving to the music -- life is good. That picture is what I think of when listening to this. The album felt simple and well done! I haven't listened to much of the Samba jazz genre, this was a great introduction.

Introducing Bossa Nova to the U.S.A. 1001 Albums Generator 114 (09/09/2025) Stan Getz, one of the "great whites" of the jazz scene, had one hell of a storied career. What started as a relatively simple (but good) string of bebop and cool jazz albums took a turn with 1962's Jazz Samba, recorded with guitarist Charlie Byrd (who I am not really familiar with), which marked the beginning of Getz's long interest in Brazilian music styles. I have listened to Getz / Gilberto, which I really enjoy, so I was excited to hear more Samba from Mr. Getz. Jazz Samba starts with two of its strongest songs in the upbeat Desafinado and the fun Samba Dees Days. This is some of the best "elevator music" there is, remaining somehow very engaging, especially with Stan Getz's very subtle leans into some weird stuff. In general, the upbeat songs here are the best, while the slower tunes, such as Samba Triste and E Luxo So are not as engaging. Also, I do not find Byrd to be as engaging as Getz, but then again, not many players are. Overall, Jazz Samba is a really solid album that introduced American audiences to sounds they had not yet heard. 4/5. Favs: Desafinado Samba Dees Days Bahia Least Fav: Samba Triste

No vocals

Beautiful. Delicate but upbeat. Wish the guitar levels were higher for the solos.

Groovy baby, yeah!

I like this one

Enjoyable

bossa nova music always seems to lift my spirits whenever i'm feeling low. this one is very low-key and quiet, and has a strong focus on playful saxophone solos. the album is consistent and relaxing. it's said this album helped bossa nova gain more popularity here in the united states. i feel like this album would be perfect for playing at an upscale clothing store or used as hold music for a customer support telephone line. this album does what it's set out to do and not much else.

More a vibe. Every song sounds the same but it sets a mood perfectly and is very cool.

Loving it so far. Lovely and nice

Now I need coffee with this.

Stan Getz is fantastic. Its no Getz/Gilberto, but a very worthwhile listen nonetheless

Such good jazz

Pretty good and chill I like it

A good jazz album for everyday activities and working

Enjoyed the vibes of this album. Just cool, relaxing bossa nova jazz. You can actively listen and enjoy, but it's also a great album to just have on in the background.

I’d cook a really nice meal alongside this

I wish I were in a turtle neck with horn rimmed glasses absolutely boring the shit out of a girl at a party about this record, thats what I envision when I listen to Jazz Samba. I mean that in the best way possible, this record really brought me to a place (fictional or no) that I could see myself in. Sipping an old fashioned like the pretentious little boy I am in my heart, going on about a happening new scene down in Brazil. So much of this record just feels like it informed a lot of what would come out in the mid to late 60s, reading up on it definitely gave better insight in to what this album helps accomplish. I love me some cultural and/or historical context when I listen to music, and knowing that this helped bring about Bossa Nova becoming popularized in the States really makes it that much more interesting. Never listened to it before, may go out and buy a vinyl copy to bore my fiancé with my thoughts while I cook dinner (the record she'll enjoy, me she prolly wont)

This is a really well made jazz album. Not a 5 because this is a bit too smoooooth for me and I'm not sure about the authenticity, I should ask a Brazilian. But no denying, this has ambiance and musicianship is perfect.

Absolutely solid album from Stan Getz. Loved his stuff for a long time but somehow never seemed to have gotten around to this album til now. Favorite tracks: Desafinado (both version)

D’ya like jazz?

It’s all mood. Takes you to a place ( that I’ve never been, but it still takes me there) early60s, formal wear in that southern shade from the heat. It’s chill, its mellow it’s the epitome of cool. 4 Star

Beautiful album. So nice and loungey. Latin vibes. Cafe music in the best way

Strong peanuts gang vibes

Never sure about jazz albums in these lists - they always seem a little token. Still, am a fan of Stone Flower and Wave and this was a very good listen. Like both of those it's sumptuously played. A ray of sunshine, a pick-me up for a crappy day, great music to listen to but als to ease the drudgery of the day's work.

Great album! Love his tone and melodical soloing.

great stuff

I listened in the background as I made dinner. Enjoyed it will try to get back to it again sometime.

Problem with Bossa Nova is that it is so hard not to hold the invention of Easy Listening music against it. Get past that, and you have an album great interplay between guitar and incredibly smooth sax.

A nice easy breezy listen. Smooth, controlled sax, wonderfully played all around.

Amazing

Favourites: Desafinado, Samba Dees Days, Samba Triste, Bahia

I love jazz samba

Felt like I was in the credits of a Pixar Movie...I like that

Pretty nice, played some of these (Desfinado and one note samba) but not so familiar with others. Fun album, does not overstay it's welcome. Only downside was not the best solo on track 1 in the guitar, felt there was a better solo there. Would play again. Feeling 4/5?

Ez listenin it’s great.

e de asemenea relaxant(cine s-ar fi asteptat) dar e mai mult walking on the beach relaxant. as vedea albumul asta fiind cantat pe faleza. Imi place saxofonistul. Chitara cred ca da vibeul de plaja in mare parte. Se aude putin dar e o parte foarte importanta. nu se simte ca e din 64 albumul in niciun caz

This was wonderful! I really enjoyed "Desafinado" and "Samba Triste". Which I saved both so we rate 4/5.

Pretty good. Actually recognized the first song

Can't go wrong

Absolutely delightful.

Excellent jazz album anchored by the opening track.

This Getz a 4 because I enjoyed it, wasn't a single stand out track but the whole thing was very pleasant

Hitting the Cool Jazz sweet spot.

Chill vibe. Kinda gets old after a while but still a pleasant listen. Not much more to it than that.

Pure Bossa Nova, stunning and adorable!

Really good! Charlie Bird is tasty!

Bossa Nova en samba instrumentaal.

Really pleasant listen. Obviously I'm a big fan of jazz, so this one hits -- the one thing I'll say though, is that this kind of feels like a "cocktail party jazz album." Something you'd put on in the background over a nice dinner to look sophisticated. I'm not a huge fan of any album that fades itself into the background -- to me it's generally a sign of fewer risks taken, staying safe and comfortable at the expense of something groundbreaking -- so for that reason it loses a star. Fave songs: - Desafinado - Samba Triste - Samba De Uma Noto So - E Luxo So - Bahia

First impression pre listen: Was not expecting to round out the with some smooth bossa nova, but that's cool I guess. I've got no experience with prolonged listens when it comes to this genre, so it will be something completely new to me. I'm excited to get started. Individual track notes: Desafinado Puts me in a good mood. Great summery atmosphere. Fun bass and smooth sax playing. Sounds like the smell of hot coffee and fresh fruits. Good. 4/5 Samba Dees Days Fun rhythm, great energy. A railroad track of constant colour and freshness. Great sax. Love when the plucky guitar gets its moment, very infectious. Good. 4/5 O Pato Love how the inital melody resloves. A positive and pleasant sound. Fun track. Good. 4/5 Samba Triste There's a more down and melancholic atmosphere to this one. Sounds almost contemplative. Romantic guitar. Really moody and cool. Great. 4.5/5 Samba De Uma Nota So Carries a similar mood as the previous track, but injects it with some mystery and unpredictability. Love how the sax twists and turns alongside the beat. Smooth and satisfying guitar. It's great to hear the bass get its own designates segment to go nuts on. Good. 4/5 E Luxo So Danceable and fun with great energy and an uncomplicated vibe that's easy to follow along to. I like that there's a hint of serenity in the sax, especially towards the end of the track. Decent. 3.5/5 Bahia It definitely feels less constrained and more free than previous tracks. Has a broader sound with a denser atmosphere. The instruments feel "heavier" and less bright. Has a sleepy end of the day energy to it. Decent. 3.5/5 Final review: A pleasant, accesible and unproblematic approach to jazz music. While not producing anything jaw-dropping or intensily exhilarating it produces a warm and cozy mood, a perfect companion for a lazy night's listen after a long day. It's smooth, controlled and cool allowing itself and the listener plenty of time to breathe. Stan Getz has an incredible ability to play the sax in a way that's exciting to follow while not taking too much space. While his playing is definitely the highlight of the album, his parts are constructed in such a way where you can let the sax slide out of focus and it will still provide the music with plenty of texture should you just want it in the background. And I think a part of what makes the album such a good time is that it's versatile. It's just layered enough to actively listen to, while also being low key enough to function as out of focus background music. It's also a rainbow of moods, vibes and colours which makes it sound suprisingly varied and fresh. Not an absolute masterpiece by any means, but an easily listenable, enjoyable piece, functioning as a solid injection of positive energy for many a purpose. 3.5/5 rounded up to a 4/5.

Brings me inner peace

Just a nice listen. i don’t listen to enough jazz

Feel good music with a lot of thought behind it. Very easy to listen to.

A charming and delightful album. Nothing groundbreaking about it, just a pleasant listen.

We don't get the Girl from Ipanema, but we get everything else. Very solid.

A good album with some relaxing music. I liked Samba Dees Days and E Luxo So the most.

Cool AF. Definitely going on the Easy Like Sunday Morning playlist.

Not my cup of tea, but I didn't hate it. It took me on a journey like a co-workers vacation slides that I politely enjoy equally and walk away from with no real memory. But now I can say oh yeah, Charlie Byrd, I've hear his stuff. I respect his musicianship. The drums (all the percussion instruments really) kill though. That bass, too. Ok maybe it should have started with Samba De Una Nota...

Nice jazz.

Stan Getz is a fantastic blower. Not a great guy. But this album is quite good, almost in par with his greatest works.

Very nice jazz 👌

So this is bossa nova…Samba Jazz. Very pleasant and warm. Smooth and easy listening, but with a real skill and quality. Can certainly see me going to this by choice, rather than just background. Just so pleasant and warming. Pleasant feels such an empty word but it feels the perfect capturing of this album. Uber pleasant!

This is #day344 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... it's a rainy July morning in my hometown, Lviv, and this record makes for a perfect musical backdrop. The sax is nice and warm, and the bossa nova rhythm is gently groovy. I'm enjoying it and look forward to checking out Gitz/Gilberto as well. Also, I bet this album sounds terrific on vinyl. This is a 4 out of 5. Looking forward to #day345.

Jazzy jazz

Fun jazz album.

A quality recording of enjoyable and relaxing music.

I can understand easily why this is on here.

Two words I never want to see together Jazz & Samba, another case of why I love this list, eat my words first track awesome, as soon as it started England got their 9th wicket against India in the third test 4th innings

I've never thought of myself as a "jazz guy" but I really enjoyed this album. Maybe it's the samba? In any case, would listen again.

Loved this.

So this is the second album I’ve listened to from Stan Getz, and I can definitely see how his music reached a global audience. This album feels like a breath of fresh air with its breezy, elegant, lounge-like, and relaxed energy. It’s definitely the kind of album that’s perfect to come home to and wind down with after a long, hot day in the summer heat.

Saxophones sound great. I always like when they make an appearance in rock/pop music (see Bruce Springsteen, Sam Fender). This album was jazzy, which can be a red flag to a pleb like me, but I was pleasantly surprised by how accessible it felt. Just smooth, relaxed music, with enough variety to stay interesting, and not overstaying its welcome. I don't think I'd listen to this regularly unless I got more into Bossa Nova as a genre for whatever reason, but I'm glad to have listened to it once

Chill jazz, easy listening and smooth yet not boring

Nice tunes. Really easy listening.

-this was a perfect album to listen to stoned after a beach day. i’ve heard it before and i liked it even better this time -incredibly smooth and aesthetically pleasing, makes me feel like i’m in a fancy lounge in Brazil -Favorites are Desafinado, Samba Dees Days, and Bahia

I'm not a jazz girl, but these connections with samba were surprisingly smooth...

Incrivel como algumas músicas transcedem nossa noção atual de "bom ou ruim" e se tornam apenas parte de algo puro e genuino. Essas músicas são calmas e soam muito bem em mim.

Nice instrumental Jazz album and very good for a background throw on

Grandísima la idea de Stan Getz de adentrarse en el mundo de la samba y la bossa nova. Esperando a que salga también Getz/Gilberto.

I like Stan Getz. Who knew.

Good stuff. It does make you feel a bit like you’re in a hotel elevator, but I blame the hotel industry for that

Zeitloser Klassiker, auch ohne das berühmte Mädchen von Ipanema. Gehört in jeden Haushalt - auch solchen, in denen sich nur drei Jazz-Platten finden. 4/5

Been a while since I got a solid jazz album. This makes me nostalgic for a time I never knew; I wasn't even born yet.

Great jazz album. Fun and engaging to experience.

I could take a bath in the tone of Getz's tenor. Beautiful performances all around and samba goes down so smooth. Repeated listens reward you with more depth. Every musician on this record has chops for days and it shows. I do think the only thing holding this back is a lack of players from the tradition in the band but honestly, everyone is so talented it's a matter of going from great to perfect more than anything else.

This was a very nice experience as I drove to the jail. Pleasant surprise.

Great cafe music! Bossa nova is my cup of tea! Will 1000% write with this in the background!

Listened in the truck via YouTube music. Very nice chill jazz. Definitely of the Mad Men era. This is the kind of record that wants me to deep dive into jazz but knowing where to start is difficult.

Great inclusion I wasn’t aware of. Smooth, mellow and easy breezy. Great weekend listening all along.

Ok, the uplifting beat is difficult to be unhappy with. Pleasant for background noise, but these songs beg to be in the foreground. Like nursery rhymes, some of these songs are a part of my being.

This was fun. Clearly talented musicians/songwriters and it's great if you're in an upbeat, chill mood. Wonderful background music. Maybe I'm starting to like Jazz, Dave? Or maybe there's certain corners of the Jazz Room that I enjoy.

I really can't rate this, I know nothing about the genre.

Jazz!! I love jazz, especially sultry slinky jazz. So I'm excited about this one. I think this will put me in a good mood. I think if I heard this in 1962, it would change my brain chemistry. Each song is almost 5 mins on average. That's awesome. This makes me want to be on vacation. I very much enjoyed this, but it's not revolutionary, it's just really good jazz. To me this is a 4.5 but again, that makes it a 4. This is making me listen to more jazz today though. It's just so good.

Was good! Nice, easy to listen, jazzy jazz

Bossa nova classic, no skips

New wave jazz house is swiftly becoming my favourite modern genre of 2025, and it is all thanks to Stan Getz earlier on in the album generator. Probably played this album 3 times over without realising.. and that is the joy of it. Easy listening, samba/bossa nova that just transports you to a different era.

Lovely. Really enjoyed Getz/Gilberto so it was a pleasure to listen to more

Слушал с большим удовольствием, но без откровений. Возможно, до откровений просто не дорос.

so good!

For someone that does not like Jazz…. …this was a pretty awesome album.

Beautiful album.

I enjoyed it

Eigentlich nicht mein Genre, hört sich nach einem stressigen Tag aber gut an!

This is what I've been waiting for. Just gimmie a vibe for a day.

Stan Getz. Charlie Byrd. Need I say more? Getz/Gilberto was really nice with the female vocals, but this sets the same mood with a sax and an acoustic guitar. I had never heard this one before, but immediately put it in my rotation of Jazz albums. Whether its a cup of coffee, or a time for journaling at night, this is a fantastic album to elevate the mood. 8/10

Perfect coffee and chill tunes

Really good summertime/springtime jazz. I don't like judging music I'm not well versed in, but it's extremely easy listening while not feeling like elevator music. I like both Stan Getz's and Charlie Byrd's other music so this is also a hit. 8/10

Delightful

Fun bouncy way to start my day - calming yet dancy!

Would be great background music

Will revisit, found this very relaxing and really fun

Still to review

Not much of a jazz guy but it was simple and a pleasant listen

They sound great, and it was a very pleasant listen (and short too!), but I’m not somebody who sits down and is like wow I really want to listen to some jazz right now. Maybe that’ll happen when I turn 60 like a light switch but that day has not come yet.

ahhhh. this was a lovely listen. short tracks that don't drag. really enjoyed the samba influence.

Nice cool laid back music for having a coffee sunday morning on a quiet sunny day

All vibes. My very first album on this list was Getz/Gilberto, and I hated every second. I just went back for a relisten, and that's still true. This album manages to expand the idea and the feeling, but actually makes it work.

That's fun, good jazz that I can get behind.

love love some jazz, very springy and calm and pastel it's fun to listen to each part individually and see how they all fit together

very gorgeous album, so easy going and easy to listen to, samba and jazz is such a good combo wtf its so random asw, they cooked w this

Such a great vibe.

Something I might take for granted and overlook. It’s always on at the restaurant. But and obviously great album.

Veldig behagelig å høre på. Hadde kanskje vært enda bedre om det ikke var samba

Great album to dance alone to. Wish it was longer. Getz and Byrd are great.

01) Desafinado - 9,0 02) Samba Dees Days - 7,5 03) O Pato - 7,5 04) Samba Triste - 7,0 05) Samba de uma Nota Só - 8,0 06) É Luxo Só - 7,0 07) Bahia - 7,0 TOTAL: 7,57 (76/100) Current ranking: 242/553

I always love when jazz pops up on this list and Jazz Samba is no exception

yeS was very much looking forward to this, as I really loved the Getz/Gilberto album and the one with Luiz Bonfá, which both come after this, but not much longer. I really like the guitar and saxophone conbmination, especially as the guitar is playing fingerpicked and arpegiated chords, rather than strumming. Apparently this is the album which made Bossa Nova popular in the U.S, and I can see this being really appealing as a breath of fresh air after the standard jazz stuff of the late 50s. I feel like its probably a little worse than the Getz/Gilberto, and on par ish with the Luiz Bonfá one. Favourite songs: all Overall around 8/10

Super chill out jazz

Lovely. The only reason I'm dinging it a point is that it pretty much gives you the same vibes all the way through. Immaculate vibes, but still, not as much dynamism. That's a small complaint though. This is a lovely listen for any downtime. Must-listen #139.

The last bossa nova album I listened to as part of this project made me doubt whether I liked this genre. Until then, I thought I did. Now I know it was because of the albums I was listening to up until then. I'm quite sure that it might have been because of Stan Getz, as I really liked this album. It won't be one of my top favourites, but I can listen to it again and again. 4/5

This is the kind of album I'd put in the background on a lazy afternoon while reading a book. It felt very cozy!

ez listenin

Something I can listen to in the background.

This is one that is hard to dislike 4*

I defy anyone to listen to this without moving along with it. It's like bathing in a bath of chill. Fantastic playing. Definitely not "background" music - anything can be background music if you're not listening to it! But still great to have on in the background. Marvelous

I gotta make a Jazz playlist 🎶

I must be getting old (now that I’m 65) because I listened to Jazz Samba and thought “Not that bad.” Next, I realized it was actually pretty good. It was then that I realized I must now be officially old. I liked the schmaltz of Samba Triste, and the excellent guitar work. All tracks are good, the album plays smooth. Also liked that the album was only 33 minutes long. (3.7*s)

hell yeah charlie byrd and stan getz!!! i listened to this album while gardening (an experience i do not reccomend). first song went insanely hard. sonically the album was amazing - in both the musical elements and the production (it sounded so good). luckily this is my type of jazz so i very much enjoyed listening to this. i did notice that despite its short run time i still felt as if some parts were stretched. 4/5

Great concept with perfect delivery clean and sharp. This musoc is really good for relaxing and concentrating.

Sometimes it’s just nice to listen to two greats doing their thing

Härlig jazz

I listened to this three times yesterday. I also didn't especially like it or hate it, I just felt compelled to relisten to it. I suppose that's worth something.
