Reviews (page 8 of 13)

The classic rock and roll album. Without a doubt a gen of the genre and a must listen. To me, it didn't age very well. I find it old and interesting. I prefer more experimental and artsy music. Still a solid listen.

Really fun to listen to Fav: Tumbling Dice

The rolling stones have so many better albums/songs. This was just okay.

Yeah, alright. Nothing jumped out

I like the Stones but haven’t listened to this in many years. What struck me was the level of cultural appropriation - black blues music rehashed by white guys. Others also did the same. I do believe that the Stones made better albums and that their best work is less derivative!

For a group as overwhelming as the Rolling Stones, I was expecting... more?

Blues Rock just isn't my thing. I'll probably relisten to this at a later date, but it just didn't do anything for me

Could have been 45 minutes shorter, and it would have been a 4.

Fun listen, but for some reason I can't get into the Stones that much.

I'm surprised about how boring I found it - I had heard of this album as one of their best work. I guess I need to manage my own expectations

Love the first half. Don't remember much from the second.

I've listened to it once before, thought it was fun but nothing memorable yet

Pretty blusey / rock blend. 3 stars

A few good songs overshadowed by mediocrity! Definitely better Stones albums out there

honestly kinda mid

I think I preferred this to let it bleed as a whole, had some good songs, had some bad songs, but feels like a more complete album than Let it Bleed

Loved tumbling dice

This being my the first album from The Rolling Stones that I've listened to, I had expectations pretty high. I don't know why, but I was expecting something that could potentially live up to Led Zeppelin 4 or something from CCR or The Beatles. And yet somehow, through the hour+ long record, not a single song managed to stand out in any way. I am suspicious of some sort of fatigue setting in with these daily albums, but if that doesn't explain it then I'm not sure I can. Mick Jagger's vocals are serviceable at best, and a bit grating at worst. The tracks are all okay to good. But there's nothing here that wowed me at all, or that I would tell people about, unless they really wanted to listen to more of The Rolling Stones specifically and hadn't stumbled across this somehow. Highlight: Shine A Light Lowlight: Sweet Black Angel Highlight #2: Let It Loose

Didn't really love this. But the groove and the production were really, really good. Sweet Virginia and Tumblin' Dice definitely boost it.

Upbeat songs. Didn't realize how much blues influenced their music. Fav was 'tumbling dice'. 3/5

Must say I've been a bit disappointed by the Stones albums I've heard so far on this list - this one included. It feels like quite bluesy rock, vanilla rock, which is not my favorite to start with. The album is always way too long. There isn't much variation in the songs in my opinion, which makes it tedious and a bit boring.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I don’t think The Rolling Stones make good albums. They make great singles, but their records tend to get boring—this one included. There are plenty of songs in its very generous runtime, ranging from standard blues tracks to more rock-oriented songs. Not many of them piqued my interest. The main standout songs are the hits. “Tumbling Dice” is a decent song, and “Shine a Light” is one of the best Stones tracks. The rest was a clear meh. Mid 3 from me.

It start good, but by the end you're tired of hearing it.

Not really a Stones fan, I am more of a Beatles fan. And I can see why this would need multiple listens for it to sink in.

I see people saying this is their best album. It’s okay music. I can see that they were trying to get back to blues roots. It was decent I just don’t think their music is for me. This also went on too long. I guess if you like it then it wouldn’t be.

Prior to being assigned this I have 6 songs liked on this one. And I have 79 songs liked by The Rolling Stones across all of their albums putting them in the top 5 of all artists for me. 6 songs I already liked - "Rocks Off", "Tumbling Dice", "Sweet Virginia", "Loving Cup", "Happy", "Shine A Light" Even though the Stones are a top 5 artist for me, I find that I often like only about half the songs on most of their albums - exceptions being the albums Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Some Girls which all are either perfect or near perfect. As a side note: I have a general opinion that nearly all double albums are stuffed with a lot of filler (with a few exceptions, such as Pink Floyd The Wall and Led Zeppelin Physical Graffiti, and I'm sure there are others but those are 2 off the top of my head) - and I think this album is a good example of proving that point. I've seen people compare it to the Beatles White Album - and while I can find a bunch of reasons to disagree with that - the fact that they are both overstuffed with a bunch of songs that range from underwhelming to very average that sit alongside some good songs is one definite similarity. If the Stones kept the best songs and made this a single album it would be a perfect album. The other thing about this album - I'd say the songs that I like on this one are all "pretty good" but they are not absolute classics that are peak Stones like "Sympathy for the Devil", "Gimme Shelter", "Street Fighting Man", "Let it Bleed", "You Can't Always Get What You Want", and "Can't You Hear Me Knocking". I'm glad I listened to this all the way through 3 times - because I did add 5 more songs upon re-listen - "Torn and Frayed", "Sweet Black Angel", "I Just Want To See His Face", "Let It Loose", and "All Down The Line" One other thought while listening to this - I find the Stones songs that aren't just straight up blues to be much more interesting. I think I dig the more country-fried and gospel-ly Stones better. And even better when they are combining multiple styles in one song - plus adding their unique spin. Liked songs on Spotify: 11/18 Rating: 3/5

Неплохо для замшелых британских говнарей, этот альбом - пока лучшее, что я у них слышал

👍🏻

It sounds as though the Stones got interested in the blues and took a tour of the American South. While there, they got involved with several Black luminaries, some of whom introduced them to gospel, as well. They took their experiences back to France and recorded some raw music in sweltering conditions in a townhouse. Most of the songs exist only on the album and haven't been played often, or at all, at concerts.

not their best

As someone who’s never listened to Rolling Stones albums, I truly adored Sticky Fingers, and played it on repeat the whole day after I listened to it for the first time for this list. It’s truly a brilliantly fantastic album. I was excited when this album came up because I know it by its reputation and it being on so many lists as the greatest Stones album of all time. It had the benefit of being partially recorded during the making of Sticky Fingers so I could not wait to dive in! Wow. What an underwhelming piece of mediocrity. Is this a joke that this album is so highly regarded? It’s long, average, and mostly dull. As someone who loves the blues, this is a shit blues album. Led Zeppelin does the blues better. This is plain white bread. I don’t know what everyone sees here that I’m missing. No hits, no bangers, no good blues songs. Just mundane drivel.

Apparently not my favourite album from them. It's just boring me to sleep.

Звучит плотно, довольно зааранжирован. Возможно, надо будет переслушать.

Fun cohesive album, but nothing in particular stands out above the crowd. Have liked some of their other albums much more.

I was quite excited about this album. I like the Rolling Stones and have listened to quite a few albums of theirs but not this one. In the end it was fine, but nothing really grabbed me. A lot of pretty samey country blues. Really enjoyed their version of Stop Breaking Down.

Getting to realise that I'm definitely a best of Stones man. Most of this just seems like formulaic 4 bar blues stuff to me. Used to say The Stones were better than the Beatles, i think I've revised my opinion

A very groovy album! Im not much of a big Rolling Stones fan, but this country rocky album isn't that bad. Though I am a fan of blues and country, not many are. Overall, my favorite songs were Casino Boogie, Sweet Virginia, & Sweet Black Angel.

certified roadtrip album felt different from other rolling stones music (e.g. paint it black)

I like rock, country rock on the other hand is a bit too jarring for me to appreciate

As the first bars of the opener came up, I was actually quite into it. Jagger wasn't sounding too Jaggerish, the guitars seemed fun and there was a cool energy in the drums. Later Stones albums just remind me of rip of Americana and the early ones are a bit hit or miss. Sadly, four songs in, I felt it was too much for the former. Even the song with turd in the title was not memorable. 3 stars.

I enjoyed some songs, like Rocks Off and Happy. But others were just a drag or too same same. Not really my cup of tea.

it’s them

Was not feeling this one, all of the songs sounded the same eventually.

Review - there are some good songs here. It's not a bad record. But to me, every The Rolling Stones song just sounds like a The Rolling Stones song. Some are a little better than others and occasionally there's a great song, but a whole double album is just too much of the same. Rating - 5.5/10 Need to listen? YES

Best leuk. Snap dat mensen dit leuk vinden maar ik vind het nou niet zo super mega goed als mensen zeggen

I'm not sure I prefer the Stones' 70s work over their 60s. The songwriting is leaps and bounds ahead here, but it is a tad too long and the highlights seem to run out before even reaching the midway point. Still, this is one of the band's undisputed classics, but it also confirms why we continue to hear a lot about The Beatles but less and less about The Stones. Key tracks: Rocks Off Tumbling Dice Torn and Frayed Happy

Never really understood the hype on this one. A good overall vibe, but not much in the way of songs. I do like Rocks Off and Tumbling Dice. Could have been a single album. It did cause me to google whether anyone else the remarkable similarity between Shake Your Hips and Tush by ZZ Top and while there is some discussion out there it doesn't feel like it is enough.

Another one of those albums where I can understand why it has the reputation it does, but just doesn't resonate with me as much as I want it to

I never realized how many horns were on this album, and how bluesy Stop Breaking Down is.

Disappointingly, exactly what I expected. Its alright, but there's little difference to standard Stones fare

It's ok. Took me until about Tumbling Dice to get into it, and I was ready for it to be over before it finished. The Rolling Stones with the Americana turned up to 11. Felt a bit nondescript.

So... Not my favorite Stones album, there a lack of roughness in it. But musicaly speaking it's really great, lot of inspiration from américains music culture. It's 3.5

I like the sound of The Stones

it’s alright, i’m not crazy about the rolling stones.

Highlights: Rocks Off, Tumbling Dice, Happy, All Down The Line Lowlights: Shake Your Hips, Casino Boogie, I Just Want To See His Face Not what I expected for the Stones. Wasn't bad but couldn't really get into it. Album could have done with being a single instead of a double, the more bluesy songs really took me out of it as well.

2/16 This is the first time I've listened to a Rolling Stones album all the way through. It's okay but I'm not interested in listening to it again.

Best: Ventilator Blues While Exile on Main Street has some great tracks, this album was less of a compact statement and more of a document steeped in excess, I found it hard to stay engaged for the runtime (I actually had to restart it a few times). For me, its reputation overshadowed actual listening experience, the apparently intentional inconsistency wasn’t to my taste and made the album feel unfocused. Genre wise EoMS is a blend of American roots styles with rock, country, gospel etc, chord progressions are very bluesy and many of the tracks share similar harmonic foundations. Obviously guitars are the dominating sound here but layering felt loose and negated tight riffs, this paired with the cluttered production where the instruments bleed into each other gave it a very dense, murky feel which matched the tired/cynical mood of the album. MJs vocals were cool as always, even when at times sounding sort of slurred, they worked well with the compositions, blending into the music and complimenting the moody lyrics. Although my review has felt largely negative I did admire the raw authenticity of this album.

Not the best stones album but still a solid album.

Bluesy but peppy with a beat.

not my type. i liked it

Most of this album just sounds like white british men singing blues rock to me, but Happy does sound ahead of it's time.

слишком много блюза(((

A good road trip sounding album seems to be the type of thing that inspired the white stripes, good rock album. 👍🏼

Like Let it Bleed more

I forget how country they can get, and it doesn't do it for me. This does have an incessant groove and a well-executed simplicity of translating parts of blues and country back to the UK context, but this is not their best for me by a mile. There are few stand out songs

THIS is it? One of the highest rated Rock 'N Roll albums of all time, the "best" Rolling Stones album of all time, this is it? It's mediocre on its best day. Please, quit disappointing me like this King Generator. Favorite Track: "Ventilator Blues".

When I saw a Stones album come up, I was expecting more. I feel like there are not a lot of memorable moments on the record, no real high marks. The album is a steady stream of middle of the road. Not terrible, but not great either.

More Stones, more blues rock, and surprisingly more ballads. While I understand Exile On Main Street's appeal (it sounds GREAT), it all just sounds like a less interesting Sticky Fingers. On Exile, The Stones do all the things they're expected to do really well. They take it a step further with a stadium ballad of "Shine A Light". Not a bad album, and not the least interesting Stones album I've heard so far, just standard fare.

Its ok nothing much to say

8/18 songs added, lowkey my kind of jams 3.5/5

I've never really liked most of what the stones produced or I've heard it too many times. This album is certainly full of forgettable tracks. There are some great tracks which I really like, but unfortunately would only fill one side of an LP.

This is one of those albums where I can understand why it’s considered great, but it didn’t really land for me yet. I liked the idea of it more than the actual listen, it’s loose, warm, and grimy in a way that feels very intentional, but also kind of exhausting. A lot of the songs blurred together for me, with Sweet Virginia being the one that actually stuck and felt genuinely charming. There’s a sleazy, lived-in vibe that I really liked and was almost comforting, but the messiness sometimes tipped into feeling unfocused rather than immersive. I didn’t hate it, I just wasn’t in the right headspace for a double album like this. Definitely one I’d come back to on a different day, because I feel like there’s more in there than I caught.

Fun, upbeat rock album. Really can't go wrong with this one. 6.5/10, Favorite Song: Rip This Joint

Classic Prime Stones.

Can’t believe this has such high reviews. The double album’s worth of songs are all way too similar, and most of them just amount to gang vocals over a chord progression repeated ad nauseam. An absolute sham that these guys are mentioned in the same breath as the Beatles.

Boring, inoffensive, nondescript, forgettable, pleasant enough, dad rock

My goodness, does this album have a lot of influences from different parts of music. This is fun at times and a bit average at others, but this is what you would expect from an album of this length. Mick Jagger is just consistently good and does this blues thing well, but it doesn't live up to their best stuff.

Say this for most stones album, it was too long

Listened to it twice today. Honestly didn't think much of it. There are some solid tracks, but the Stones hype for blues rock didn't draw me in. Leagues better than the last Stones album I had on the list. It's certainly not bad, but it's doesn't fit my tastes well enough for it to be a 4 star release.

This album is all over the place in song style and some great songs and some in my opinion some not so great songs.

Decent start to finish. A couple hits.

Nobody can tell me the music here isn’t outdated and tired as hell. I mean, this is completely fine, but there’s nothing to get excited about. This came out the same decade prog became a thing, and this is not even remotely on the same quality level. Just a decent album but not memorable at all.

It’s hard not to appreciate this given what followed, I mean I love Primal Scream… overall this was slightly better than I thought it would be and there are some good tracks, but a bit too much filler. Before I listened I thought this would be a 2 but after a full listen it’s up to. a 3 for me

I Only Get My Rocks Off While I'm Sleeping 1001 Albums Generator 212 (1/23/2025) Exile On Main Street is a double album by The Rolling Stones, widely considered to be one of their finest works, although it was received quite coldly by critics at the time of its release. I find that a double album really needs to justify its existence as a double album, either by telling some story or some concept, or just by plainly having no filler, and I'm not sure that Exile does that. I found that sides A and D were far and away the best. Rocks Off and Tumbling Dice are both masterful tracks, although Shake Your Hips is literally just La Grange by ZZ Top but without the part where it gets really high energy and fun. I did love the piano-led Loving Cup, but I felt that it was a lone light in a sea of mediocrity where it was on the album. Luckily, around the end of the album, it really picks up again from All Down The Line to the super catchy Shine A Light. Exile On Main St. is certainly an interesting and eclectic blend of different rock styles, ranging from blues to piano to country, but it feels a bit plodding in the middle. Cool 3.5/5, rounded down to a 3. Favs: Rocks Off Tumbling Dice Loving Cup Least Fav: Turd On The Run

With its extended running time and its low-key, offhand mood, *Exile* is practically an ambient Rolling Stones record - you can put on in the background and listen to or ignore it as you like. There's no track on this album that's going to reach out and command your attention like "Satisfaction" or "Gimme Shelter" would - it's just Mick and Keef and Co. in default mode, easing their way through 18 blues-, R&B- and country-inflected tunes and eschewing big musical hooks. Ironically though, nothing really seems like a throwaway here, because each of the songs plays an integral part to overall tone of this record.

*1972. *At any given time, this album sounds really solid, but it took me so long to get through. Apparently 70 mins of the Stones is a little much for me. *There's not much nuance or volume play - just about every song sounds like it wants to be an anthem. Shine A Light at the very end is an exception, and a nice change. *Rocks Off is a great way to start of the record. I don't think I know any other songs off this one. *There's not much memorable here either. Nothing bad, just not a lot of standouts. RATING - 7/10

Didn’t finish it’s to my taste

i thought this was really good! the songs were a bit same-y at times, but the instrumentals and guitar work at some parts were brilliant. i saved 2 songs, rocks off and sweet virginia. there were definitely some others i could of saved aswell, i just got very into my history work lol. probably a 6/10, not what i usually listen to but i definitely liked it!

not quite my taste but definitely worth listening to. would i listen to it again? probably not but overall the album brought an enjoyable vibe and it made me want to dance

Its an alright album, but nothing that jumped out at me.

This album is fine, I like blues rock but I do think this one is a little too long and repetitive. By the end of the album songs start blending together.

Very generic, pleasant to listen to, but came and went without leaving any great impression. Three stars.

Stones are good, not one of my favorites (partial listen)

just didn't do that much for me

Listened again and there are moments but not my favorite Stones album

enjoyed

I never listened to the rolling stones before now listening to the frist track "rocks off" very interesting song and nice tune, the guitar is basic but I can see it did wonders in its own times I love how upbeat the song is and I like the lyrics so far Second track "Rip the joint" is so good I can start seeing the vision of the critics calling it one of the best albums of all times and I really love the Sax on this track Third track "shake your hips" I don't know how it feel but I sense it's not as instrumental driven as the previous tracks nice upbeat song regardless Fourth track "casino boogie" I love the instruments on this track a lot especially the guitar and the drums, great one! Fifth track "tumbling dice" great vocals, beautiful instrumental melody, I love the singing on this one so much probably my favorite so far Sixth track "Sweet virginia" amazing song I love the country elements of this one and sax solo, and the harmonica too Crazy how it's About herion and co cocaine grams. Seventh track "torn and fryed" Slow tempo but descent sweet melody, I love back up vocals along with the singing, good one Eighth track "

This is a double album, and is considered by many to be the best Rolling Stones LP. Two hits (Tumbling Dice and Happy) come from this album. There are a lot of rock & roll tracks here, yet still a lot of songs with blues, gospel, and country rock influence. I would rank this album below Sticky Fingers and Let it Bleed.

I think I need to listen again when I have an hour to spare. I had to listen to it in parts. It was good from what I heard.

Very bluesy and honky-tonk. Not bad at all. Plenty of new stuff from the Stones for me. But still very backgroundy and dull. Nothing really stands out.

Pretty classic album.not a big fan of this generation of rock but still a solid album.

have never listened to the band but I’m working my way through 1001 albums you must hear before you die and when I got this album I thought oooh THE rolling stones. I had high expectations and I can’t say I was disappointed but I also wasn’t blown away. when I saw it was over an hour long I was kinda taken aback since this is just not my type of genre but it didn’t feel that long, that was nice. the album felt like a mix of some different things which might’ve helped the listening experience for me. can’t rate if too low, not amazing, quite enjoyable, not bad… -favourite tracks: ROCKS OFF and SWEET VIRGINIA and SHINE A LIGHT

Classic rock and roll album, some good tracks that I will definitely come back to. Never really listened to much stones stuff before and I’m definitely going to listen to more.

Rolling Stones take 2.

Pretty great. My disdain for double albums drags it down.

It’s RS, it’s good. Classic.

Classic rock to the max. An album about wine, gambling, and shaking hips. Makes me wanna kick up some dirt with my boots ya know? A solid jam with nostalgia for a time not experienced but felt

17 albums to go. Only 112 previous listens to Rolling Stones tracks. Ready for an epiphany? Seems not, it was fine, but just reminds me of old dude jam nights at my local, and they are not fond memories.

Enjoyable rock/blues but no tracks that particularly stood out

Maybe I'm stupid, but I don't get the hype. It was good rock with a solid blues influence, but nothing here screams "big hit" to me.

Overall an enjoyable album, I enjoyed the songs on the second half more. Not much stood out though. It feels fun and rough at the same time. Only thing is that it is very consistent in its sound therefore only a few tracks stood out while listening, the rest kind of blurred together. Ventilator Blues and Let it Loose are two that did stand out to me.

I didn’t want to feel this way but this album just kinda bored me. It wasn’t unpleasant, and it’s good backyard barbecue background music, but nothing will stick with me about this album. If this wasn’t by The Rolling Stones I wonder if we would remember it at all. Still, not unpleasant, so a 5.5/10.

liked 4 songs- tumbling dice (fave), torn and frayed, ventilator blues, and let it loose

ყველაზე მეტად მომეწონა casino boogie და stop breaking down.

It's some decent rock and roll. Not much else to say about it. I do like the slower jams better, but all in all it's pretty fun. Best song: Ventilator Blues

It's ok I just don't really like Rolling Stones very much

Listened to the end and it was not my cup of tea. Added one song to my favourite's.

75% of the album is good I like tumbling ice a lot there’s some songs that don’t sit right with me but for the most part I love the saxophone or the trumpets in the back ground a lot, it’s a pretty good album to listen to when driving down a lonely road and bored but over all a 3.5 rating

Had a good sound but I don’t really think it was for me. I’ll need to listen more thoroughly

Again, classic I know, but not really my jam, but it was a good listen. Might feel different on re listen

I never caught the stones nostalgia

Thought I would like this more

Enjoyed Rip This Joint and Shake your hips, very blues. The album is very blues with a lot of sax, bit country at times. Nice chill album.

Admittedly, I only really passively listened to this album while running, however I think I’ll return to it as when I was tuning into it I really liked it

Some rock n roll noises

Sorry, dad!

A 3.5, rounded down for not being a 4

I don't know why but I can just not get into The Rolling Stones. This album is objectively pretty good too. It's bluesy and has some great songs. I don't know, it just doesn't do it for me. Maybe its Jagger's delivery: I swear I listened to the album but I'm not sure of a damn thing he said. Musically, I like it. It's good solid tunes, but it doesn't do much to hold my attention much. It just blends into the background a bit. It's a great album to put on when you're just hanging out somewhere. Standouts were "Rocks Off" "Ventilator Blues" "All Down the Line" "Shine A Light." There are a lot of songs on this beast of an album and if you like the blues and good old rock and roll you'll have a good time. The back half of the album is pretty solid. All said and done, it's like a 3.5/5 for me. Pretty good and a well known Stones album, but it just doesn't have the staying power for me to want to listen to it over and over. A revisit every now and then would be great though!

I don't know. They always felt overrated to me. This has some interesting bits, but nothing I have strong desire to listen to again. Some parts make me wonder whether they were all playing the same song. 3/5, two of which are for Charlie Watts, who keeps the songs together, even when everyone else seems to wander off on their own.

норм

i didnt listen to all of it but it was good

heel erg rolling stones! heel leuk. wel beetje allemaal zelfde voor m’n gevoel

Probably should give it another listen. I’ve tried to get into the Stones but they’re really just a greatest hits band for me.

Preferred this to the first Rolling Stones one I was offered up. But why do they sound like they are trying so hard to be American?

i do love the rolling stones but this was kinda mid? idk nothing crazy but not bad at all faves: tumbling dice and soul survivor

Overall Rating: 7/10 Favorite Song: Ventilator Blues

Honestly just thought this was really average and very generic. I understand the Stones are one of the most influential rock bands of all time but nothing really stood out to me on this record but I also liked it at the same time.

didn’t finish icl 🫣

i was a tad overwhelmed

This album was pretty boring for a Stones album. A couple decent songs, but nothing that really jumps out. Mostly just blues-ey rock with Mick Jaggar's voice over it all. Seems like this was from that weird in-between time when their sound was moving from their early stuff to their later stuff.

This is a great countyside vinbe and would listen to it more on a long vacation to beach

so far it’s really good very groovy. I’m only 4 songs in

listened in background while brain-off running. most songs sound the same, but enjoyed it!

It's the Rolling Stones. Not their biggest hits, I only knew one song (Sweet Virginia). I'm not the biggest fan of the Stones, but it was alright. By the last 5-6 songs I was ready to be done. Just a lot of the same sound. Middle of the road, 5/10.

pleasantly surprised by the inclusion of so much brass southern rock from some british dudes, fun

Great but long. Better for background music

There are some really great songs on here, but as with the other Rolling Stones records, it gets too honky tonky sometimes. I enjoy the songs that are punk/blues in their style, and luckily they weigh the most on this album

Oh my God, it's the Rolling Stones, certified legends, etc. etc. and this is often cited as their best album, and yet I can't escape how they sound like a very good bar band and not much more on here. It's a solid album, but nothing jumps out to me as a must-hear song, and every genre touched I think has better exemplars elsewhere.

6/10 - I was honestly let down by this album. Many Stones fans cite this as their favorite album, but to me it falls a bit flat. This album suffers what most double albums suffers in that there is too many meh songs for every great song. This could have been more with less.

I was expecting a bit more from this having heard its praises sung so often. There are some amazing songs - Rocks Off, Tumbling Dice, Happy, Shine a Light - but for one of these there are 2 or 3 blues rock songs that are just okay. Maybe it'll grow on me but for now it's a 6/10.

I don't mind the Rolling Stones, I think Beggars Banquet is the only album of theirs that I love. This album is not an album that I love, it's fine but definitly not for me. I think they are more a an occasional hit band than a good album band. This album is just way too bluesy which isn't for me. I'd give it a middle of the road 2.5 score.

Pretty enjoyable

It’s a good album. But it’s one of those albums that I’m supposed to really love. Everybody puts it at the top of their Stones list. However, it has never really reached those heights for me. I guess I’m more of a Some Girls guy.

Ok background but nothing peaked

Really, REALLY solid album. Satisfying blend of blues and rock&roll

Some decent tunes but goes on a bit

Don’t mind the Stones and a couple of tracks on here are decent bluesy tunes

I forget that early rock is often just blues and honky tonk

Damn good album by a damn good band. Stones rock! 7/10

315/1089 - Was wondering when I'd get them again. I don't think I've gotten any Bob Dylan albums yet and I know he has a lot on the list too, looking forward to some of those. Anyways, it's competent but samey and I'm not really a blues rock fan. Shake Your Hips and I Just Want to See His Face were alright.

A very good record. I don’t think it’s as great as everyone believes but I do get who they are in terms of history.

I feel like I’m supposed to like this album but it is just OK. I can see the R&B influence and the twist these English kids used but… meh.

Long mythologized as the band’s murkiest, most decadent statement, Exile on Main St. still lands as a raw and ragged sprawl—though modern remastering finally lets the guitars snarl and the horns punch through the haze rather than sink into it. What hasn’t changed is how samey the record can feel: a narcotic shuffle of bluesy churns and midtempo or slow-burn country detours, all held together less by hooks than by a humid, lived-in atmosphere. Still, the highlights remind you why the band’s creative excess remains legendary. “Rip This Joint” tears out of the gate with 1950s rockabilly abandon, “Sweet Virginia” leans into its country twang with a wink and a yee-haw, and “Happy” finds Keith Richards barking out one of his most straightforward, good-time rockers. Messy? Absolutely. But it’s a glorious kind of mess—the Stones at their most unpolished and unapologetic.

Non l'ho ascoltato tutto che YouTube ha fatto casino. Comunque un ottimo album anche se forse un po' peggio rispetto all'altro.

[Bill Simmons voice] Are we sure The Rolling Stones are good? This is fine, generic classic rock, but I don't understand why this album is so revered. 3/5

Random thoughts: * I couldn't help but think of Sir Paul McCartney's quote: "they’re a blues cover band, that’s sort of what the Stones are." * That thought just didn't leave my head as I listened to Exile on Mainstreet twice. * I understand it's historical significance and I know it is critically adored. It just sounds like some good rock/blues music. Not one of the 100 best albums of all time. * I'm pretty sure the story of recording this album has made this album more popular than it should be. Somehow even I know the basics without ever listening to the album before. * Shouldn't hit songs count for something? I did like "Tumbling Dice". Maybe the next best song was "Sweet Virginia" but there weren't many songs here classified as hits. * I'm glad I listened to this album. I don't find it a classic like so many others. I prefer Let It Bleed way more than this Stones album.

there’s some country in here which i appreciate. but otherwise not my vibe

It's fine.

Average Rolling Stones album. Their influence is undeniable, but I wouldn’t find myself going back to this on the regular. Though I don’t think I would skip any of the songs if they came on shuffle either. Good for background noise

Pretty solid album, I think this has been my favourite Stones album so far but I still just can’t get into them. It was solid the whole way through.

Meh, 3? Not a big stones fan. Nothing really wrong with this I just don't like the sound of the album and nothing really blew me away

The Rolling Stones. Not The Beatles but a close second as one of the greatest Rock & Roll band. Not one of their best album but still very good.

midway through listening to this i made the mistake of looking up one of the blues riffs they used in a song, and then youtube kept playing good 1970s era blues music automatically without my realizing it. so the rest of the stones album sounded like SHIT compared to those three random songs. i just find them embarrassing…of all the “white brits trying to be black americans” musicians from this era they are the least successful at surpassing the inherent corniness of that venture through genuine talent and skill and originality (compared to the beatles or led zeppelin, for example). their sound is just so derivative and boring to me…and this album was wayyy way too long. whatever. stream EXILE IN GUYVILLE by LIZ PHAIR.

I just don't really love them. Occasionally I come across one of their songs that really grabs my attention -- on this album it's "I Just Want to See His Face" and "Let It Loose", the first of which feels inventive in its subdued delivery, the second is just plain beautiful -- but mostly it just feels like background noise.

Blimey - just when I thought I would try to get back in the swing of listening again I get hit with another mega double album. Not my favourite Stones album and a few songs start off as if they are other classics but mutate into mediocre. Not bad but nothing to blow my socks off.

I can see why this is legendary, but I’m still not fully converted. The loose, basement-like sound and the mix of blues, gospel, and country are fascinating. Yet most of the songs blur for me; it’s more of a vibe than a collection of standout moments. I respect the album’s place in history and its influence on bands I love, but emotionally, it doesn’t quite click with me. Still, it’s impossible not to fall for Shine a Light.

not even my top 5 stones album. sorry girls

the kind of album that plays in the background at a white people bbq joint

If I only had an hour and 6 min left to live I’d listen to this album because it would make it feel like a year It’s not bad just eh

interesting...

Fine album, very bluesy and garage rock inspired. I don't find a single song here to standout but they are all very well written.

Supposedly this is both one of the most coherent and most varied Stones albums. My feeling about The Stones through the various albums I've heard by them, is that they are a step above ACDC - very samey songs, very samey sound, though very good at what they do. This album feels like a bunch of white boys ripping off the Blues forefathers they adored. Which is essentially their entire career, aside from brief forays into ripping off The Beatles. Honestly, I've never understood how The Stones got quite so big or remain so adored. I get their live status and how they were so energetic and electric on stage. I get that they were controversial. But the music feels so anaemic in comparison to how people talk about them. They lack the tunes of The Beatles, and lack the potency of Led Zep. Now, I say all this even though there are a bunch of all time bangers that I love. Paint It Black. Gimme Shelter. Wild Horses. A few others. This album doesn't have anything close to any of those. It has some middling rock songs. It has some middling country rock songs. It has some others songs. A few foot tappers. But it has too much if what I can stand - too much honky tonk piano. Too much harmonica. Too much sax. Not enough melody. Not enough emotion. It's a big, overcooked, overrated rock album filled with the extremes of ideas by a band that, by my reckoning, didn't have many ideas of their own at all. Oh yeah - The Manic Street Preachers lyric 'Daylight bores the sunshine out of me' is a VASTLY better lyric than The Stones original version here.

Komposisjonene blir litt for kjedelig.

'Rocks Off' is a great opener, The Stones come out swinging. 'Tumbling Dice' has become one of my favourite Stones tracks. Really soulful, and Charlie lays down such a cool groove, love the fills. Aside from that there are lots of cool bluesy and acoustic guitars but hardly any stand out songs.

More Rolling Stones. More mediocrity.

Interesting use of brass instruments, but a little samey

I wish my dick were as long as this album.

meh não gostei muito não

Ah, it was OK but not memorable.

Definitely a Rolling Stones album. Not my favourite, but adequate.

Another standard effort from the Stones I think? There's been so many of these that I'm starting to think I'm missing something. Yes, this one sounded better than the others, but I'm sure I could find very similar sounding offerings with ease.

überzüügt mi nöd mega, aber ich chan navollzieh, wie mes chönnt guet finde.

Cancún edition: This fit better with the vibe of being poolside in Mexico. I do have some concerns that at least one of these songs will be repeated by the one man cover band on stage tonight.

Classic Stones, blues driven Rock.

I can see where they have borrowed sounds from other cultures here, to the point where its really on the nose. Good, but no stand out hits for me.

pretty good album listened too while driving on a rainy southeast Minnesota day, seemed fitting

Double albums can rarely hold me for their full duration. And this one is no exception! It’s a great album, but if I had to pick one stones album, I think I’ll go for one that packs more of an efficient punch. Sweet Virginia never hit as hard as it did on this listen though, that’s a great song. 3.5

Listens: 2 Standout Tracks: Ventilator Blues Rolling Stones album number 3 on the List so far (I think out of a 6 or 8) I'm still not really getting it. They are a British band with a very American rock sound. You have a song like Sweet Virginia and you instantly think Grateful Dead or Lynyrd Skynyrd or Credence Clearwater Revival - Americana-like - not British invasion Beatles or Pink Floyd. It's just a weird dissonance I'm grappling with. The music is fine. I would even lean towards good and interesting, but I just wasn't hooked on anything. It's certainly no Paint It Black or Gimme Shelter.

Interesting album this one. It excels at creating a vibe if you can just let go of attention to lyrical detail, while simultaneously reminding you that these are some white guys performing music that definitely clearly originated in black culture. “Rocks Off” is my pick from the album, I don’t have a particular reason for liking it, I just did. “Sweet Virginia” was also a fun instance of slowing the pace down a bit. “Tumbling Dice” was never my favorite Stones hit, and it doesn’t sound any better or worse in the context of this album. After a strong effort to be an attentive listener for most of this year, it’s now October 2025 and I’m feeling a bit burnt out by one rock album after another. Maybe just a bit of a bad pocket but I want to be wowed by things I haven’t heard. Soft 3/5 for this one

It was ok kind of a cool sound

More great work by the Stones. This one doesn't have the standout singles like Beggars Banquet or Let It Bleed, but it's very jaunty and enjoyable throughout.

my favourite rolling stones album!!!!!

Sounds like classic old era bluesy Stone’s Album

Solide, aber nichts außergewöhnliches.

A Stones albums I don't really know. Some good tracks, some generic blues filler. Horn section saves some of the blander tracks. There are better less bloated Stones albums. 3 Heard before? Some songs Owned: No 17/1001, 17/73 (23%) Will I get? No

I never really understood the hype behind this album. It's not bad by any means, but I think the Stones have a lot better material. Would have been better as a single lp for sure.

Not memorable

I know The Rolling Stones are a legendary rock band, but this album was just ok for me. Mick Jagger’s voice has never been my cup of tea.

All the songs sound the same.

3.4/having never listened to a rolling stones record, that was better than I thought? got a hint of the blues at the end and I can't hate it.

I’m not sure why the decided to go for the blues. Some of the album works well with Turd on the Run and Sweet Virginia, but I wasn’t feeling half of the album. Maybe because I wasn’t expect such a blues-heavy influence?

I like the honky tonk vibes but a lot of the songs are meh

Kinda half-listened. It was fun and also fine.

I understand the appeal, but I do not connect enough with this band. It feels too superficial or something.

This album is a bit long in my opinion, I think 3-5 songs could’ve easily been trimmed. It’s easy to forget how inspired by blues music the Stones are if your knowledge of them extend only to their radio hits. I enjoyed quite a few songs, but I kept finding myself tuning out from time to time.

I was wondering before listening, if it's their best album how come I don't know any of the songs? So now I know why.

Nice. Probably a 4. Nah. 3

Nothing necessarily groundbreaking, but not every album has to be to be good. Solid record, start to finish. Mick Jagger is exactly who he thinks he is lol.

It's not an album I would buy, but I did like some of the songs. Classic.

Pas grand chose à dire

hmm ça va mais ça sonne vieuuuux

It’s fine. Not a big Stones guy. 3.5⭐️

More Stones. This is a long play with some good tracks but nothing that gives me Stones magic. It's pop and jazz and soul. Listened before? N Saved tracks? Y Favorite tracks? Casino Boogie, Tumbling Dice, Sweet Virginia, Happy ⭐⭐⭐ Liked it. Saved a few tracks.

Incredibly mid for rolling stones standards

We're past their peak and their albums are starting to get old. 3/5

6/10 - nice blues rock, not what I thought the rolling stones was. But it is a few songs too long

cool rock

It's fine background music. Listened before? N Saved to library? N Favorite track(s): Casino Boogie, Happy ⭐⭐⭐: Liked it. Saved some tracks.

Rolling Stones are like the Beastie Boys (hear me out.) They make music inspired by American black people, in the same genres as American black people, but for white audiences. Both groups do inject enough of their personal style (all Beastie Boys songs sound like THAT for example), but ultimately would not exist without the hundreds of artists that laid the groundwork for them. I'm not a massive fan of the Stones. I know they're important historically and contributed to the rise of Rock and Roll world wide, but if I wasn't doing this list of albums I wouldn't have thought to listen to this album. That said, that's the best part of this whole site.

442/1001 🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑

did not listen to all of it :(

Found this easier to listen to in 2 parts, as was getting slightly bored. Much prefer Sticky Fingers or Beggars Banquet, but it’s still a decent album on the whole.

i definitely feel like a zoomer listening to these sometimes - i can tell why this is good, that it’s foundational, but because i don’t have the cultural connection of the time to it, i’m not that compelled by it! great rock n roll. it’s the rolling stones!! what can I say!! definitely entertained by the song titles. it’s workshop music to me. there’s enough variety in the album that i wasn’t bored of it, but it’s consistent. overall good! glad I’ve listened through it. i like the horns, i like the funky vocals. feel like i should listen to it again for my Education

Okay. Niekada išskirtinai neoatiko rock n rollas. Gan panašios dainos. Gal tekstas geras, bet nelabai klausiau.

The Rolling Stones are one of the all time great bands and the impact they have had throughout the years on later bands cannot be understated. That being said other than the most famous songs I really never got in to them before. Now having listened through an entire album I appreciate them a bit more. Its easy to listen to and has some great guitar work. I still have other rock bands that I would rather listen to if I had a choice but its better than I expected.

Not a big fan of the Stones but the album is pleasant enough. Solid blues rock with no glaring weaknesses.

Not overwhelming. I can see the attraction, would need to listen again.

This album is great. Probably a little longer than it needed to be but still great. I prefer earlier stones though.

Yeah it's a layered and complex album, I just found it a bit dull. Not bad, but the Stones have better.

Me ha gustado. Sobre todo la variedad de instrumentos y sonidos diferentes que han combinado a lo largo de las canciones

long. same song. rock. background.

As many times as I have heard of The Rolling Stones, I have never actually had the pleasure of hearing their music. For my first introduction to them, this was quite good. It's unlike the other British rock I have been exposed to on this generator, likely because it leans a bit more blues. While it was good, it didn't keep my attention held throughout the listen and didn't exactly stick with me.

Not sure if it's their best work but still pretty decent

Geluisterd terwijl ik in de trein zat. De Monster Train 2 om precies te zijn. Een prima maar voor mij niet al teveel zeggend of beklijvend album. Ook geen herkenbare tracks. 3 sterren.

--Rocks Off...oh hells yeah. the horns are everything --Rip This Joint...not a total banger but that damn saxophone elevates it --Shake Your Hips...guitar is great, average song --Casino Boogie...a decent groove elevated by the sax and Richards' guitar --Tumbling Dice...great song. I love when backup singers are properly utilized --Sweet Virginia...I like Richards' guitar work but I'm not sure Mick has the type of voice to pull this off --Torn and Frayed...piano, guitar, and bass are all fun --Sweet Black Angel...an acoustic ballad with a healthy dose of woodblock. nothing special --Loving Cup...great track. feels like the entire band is contributing equally and it's great --Happy...a boring version of Rocks Off --Turd on the Run...I've read multiple critics that claim this is a weak track. I think it's a little simple but fun and it fits the overall vibe --Ventilator Blues...I prefer Turd --I Just Want to See His Face...filler --Let it Loose...this song is remarkably lame for its title --All Down the Line...another lesser Rocks Off imitation --Stop Breaking Down...here we go. dirty and fun --Shine a Light...a good song and I'm sure Mick is an electric live performer, but I never understood how these guys were rivals with the Beatles when both McCartney and Lennon's vocals were much better than Jagger's (in my opinion). Never mind the songwriting but that's a different discussion. "Rock n Roll", I guess --Soul Survivor...decent closer. also sounds like Rocks Off

stones

It's alright. Better the first album I listened to off this list from them. But it's uninspiring and pretty dull. Middle of the road 3

i can't really get it

Very good album. Nothing outstanding but certainly enjoyable

Blues more so than rock probably wasn't in the right space

Raw. With few exceptions this is the Stones’ basement tapes!

No real bangers, but pretty solid all the way through.

Some fun songs. I liked the feeling of the album being played in one big room with a crowd. Maybe like a blues bar.

Decent Rolling Stones album. I don't think I knew any of the songs on here before listening to this, and they all kind of registered as ok to good for me. 3/5

Pretty listenable for a Rolling Stones album, but also a lot of it sorta passed me by. Average Rolling Stones for me. 3/5

I’m really of the mindset that I like the Stones more with their Greatest Hits vs a regular album. Very blues driven. I liked “Ventilator Blues”. I only knew one song overall. Album 3/5, greatest hits 4/5.

Another double album filled with great songs and mediocre songs that are Stones' blues cliches . I would appreciate a trimmed album, myself. 3/5

Very bluesy, quite country. Nice og rock vibes.

Honestly they all sound the same minus tumbling dice and happy

A good album but being a double I feel there is some filler. 3.5/5

This projected has affirmed that I’m just not a Rolling Stones guy. Not that there bad. They’re just extremely ok. Record was fine. Does do on for a bit too long. 3/5

Not their best album but a few good songs

The fact I didnt recognize any of these songs as hits made me like it more. It was like a solid blues rock album that I could listen to without having to pay too much attention.

Never been big on the Stones but this was a decently fun blues rock jawn.

Rock album. Great if you like rock. Very rocky

I just listened to Aftermath a couple days ago, and I definitely enjoyed this one more. I feel like, when I think of The Rolling Stones, this is the exact vibe I hear in my head. Best Track: Rocks Off

Started with a bang but was hard to get into for much of the middle. Liked it a little more towards the end but feel like with a better base of Rolling Stones music I’d appreciate it more.

1972 I really want to like this...but at 67 minutes my interest soon wanes. It all seems so contrived; they're from London for heaven's sake I'll try again one day. Heard before ✅️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ✅️ reluctantly Bloated ★★★☆☆ (6/10)

Yeah, it’s prettay good.

I liked this. Never listened to a Stones album in its entirety. Very much of the time, but a great feel to it. Looking forward to listening further, particularly within the list. Good start to the week.

Being a Luddite/millenial a few steps removed from the Rolling Stones, this is the first Stones album I have listened to all the way through so it was interesting to give it a go. I think for me this album is at its best when the soul/blues influences are at their strongest and the rock and roll is taking a back seat. In general I didn’t have any standout songs, but it was pretty decent background music. A strongish 3.

Very rock and roll! Fast paced gritty explosion. Not sure if its supposed to but has a very American sound with the specific use of the guitair sound. I really enjoyed it. Solid 3 but doesn't elicit any special feeling for me.

A solid album of American blues tracks being drawled out by Mick Jagger. Some cool naturalistic recording giving the impression of how great this must have been to see live. "Sweet Virginia" was a really cool track, but it was at this point I started to have thoughts heretical to hardcore Stones fans: Aren't they just trying a little too hard to sound American? Through this lens, it started giving me vibes of a novelty tribute act in a themed restaurant. I was imagining a bunch of English lads all dressed up in Stetsons, high heeled boots, and leather tassels and the whole thing suddenly seemed faintly ridiculous.

Maybe not that expansive for 19 songs. But they do rock. And the performances are fun. It makes it feel much shorter than an hour.

[DNF] It’s nice but giving old songs you play at op shop. Not really my style.

some songs were very good, some songs were lifeless

solid & classic Stones sound 3/5

Expected to like this a lil more. Some classic songs but a lot of filler, the Stones have way better

This is my fifth Rolling Stones album on this project, and it's the first one that I thought was pretty solid all the way through. I still don't get the hype behind the band, but just about every track is decent to good. Unfortunately there isn't really anything that stands out as exceptional, it's a consistent album for better and for worse. Favorite track: "Tumbling Dice"

I think I'm at a point where I have to admit that I enjoy Rolling Stones hits, but I just find albums to be too much filler.

I get there’s some great music going on but I’m not sure I get the Rolling Stones

I was a Beatles fan

Never was a fan but can’t deny they were influential. 3

This is the 4th Rolling Stones album I got. It has by far the best filler, but it doesn't have a Gimme Shelter or Sympathy for the Devil for an extra star.

Songs: Let it Loose

Probably worth another listen

Peut-être considéré comme brouillon, mais entraînant et plaisant à écouter

Some songs were good but mostly not my vibe
