So... This must have been #1001.
godawful.
27/100
WTF even is this? I guess it's the UK version of crappy classic rock. Does not belong on this list.
Awful. Just awful.

This is terrible. Is it satire? It would make more sense if it was. But I looked the artist up, and not only is it not, the singer was in their 30s when they wrote this junk! 1/5
With these lyrics, I cannot imagine Ian Dury as anything but a creep. Different times, I know, but this album is clearly not for me.
Music is good absolutely hate his voice. Clever Trevor, and sex and drugs and rock n roll were the only decent songs.
I'd like to think the album is self aware and was purposely offensive and terrible. But I don't think it was
Yikes
I wasn't really into this album. I don't really enjoy the word play on this it just seems really stupid and annoying to me which is weird because I usually find a bit of word play hilarious! I didn't find it very smart though... that feels very mean. Around the middle with Billericay Dickie and Clevor Trevor though it was doing my nut in LOL. I guess Sex Drugs and Rock and Roll is a good tune though.
Just bad. Really can't stand his voice..
I’m just not that into this
No
Ewww
Gross. I hate it
Could not, for the life of me, figure out a reason as to why this album should be on the list
Awful
what in the absolute fuck was this nonsense. disgusting. his accent was terrible and ruined anything he was trying to accomplish. 0/5 stars blech
I ALREADY RATED THIS YOU IDIOTS
No. But yes! But, no. 1/5
this shit is ass… literally!
Why
Cool bass lines but otherwise lame.
Hahah I didnt hate this, but it wasn’t any good either so I’m confused about my feelings. Some of the music was ok and yeah I liked some bass lines, vocals and lyrics are not good.
I’m uh, I’m not real impressed with this fuckin list.
I wanted to like this. Can’t get past the vocal style. Sorry Ian.
I'd give this zero stars if I could.
Might be pleasing to the ear on some songs if the singer wasn’t so deranged.
I don't connect with this at all, but not all of the music itself terrible. I'm clearly separated from whatever the cultural referents are that make this relevant. I'm struggling between giving 1 or 2 stars. Let's see where we land...
Would be fun to hear in a pub. Doesn't belong anywhere near this list however.
Album: New Boots and Panties !! Artist: Ian Dury Year: 1977 Album #: 73 (listened after 274) first impressions: I listened to part of this album on the assigned day and....I don't remember why I didn't finish it, but as I'm revisiting it, I can understand why I forgot it (because believe it or not, there are far worse listening experiences on this list) and why I didn't finish (because it is really not to my taste.) after listening through: i think i could go the rest of life without hearing any of this again and be totally fine for it ( ok I wrote this 2 songs in (during attempt 2!) but the sentiment mostly held.) "Partial to Your Abracadabra" is fun in that it feels very like... British people doing something that feels very un-British & thus automatically humorous. The song "Blockheads" is entirely unpleasant and if you're sensitive to the see you next tuesday word, maybe skip "Plaistow Patricia." post-reading reviews/wiki: ok i guess i could see how *one* might be charmed by the bizarreness of this album. i still...was not. recommended for: the twenty five cent record bin at the thrift store (sorry to this man)
Nightmare wedding singer. Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll was the only song that didn't make me cringe. Or maybe I was becoming desensitized.
Immature and unintelligent.
This man has absolutely zero game
I’ve heard better name-game rhymes from mid brodsky
This sounds like a musical comedian made an entire album poking fun at brits thru impersonation. Awful.
Wtf is this? 1/5
Nope.
I’ve heard some Ian Dury before, but wasn’t expecting to dislike the album this much. The appeal of this is inexplicable to me. Its weirdness just seems random instead of interesting.
This was so annoying
I guess it was somewhat provocative or edgy when this came out in the 70s… I would consider this cringe in 2022. Nothing really interesting from a musical perspective, singer sounds kinda bored most throughout the album and on the Songs where he doesn‘t it just sounds like a drunk lad yelling in the streets at 4 in the morning.
There are some cool musical flairs going on, but man did I not enjoy this.
Bleh.
Not a fan
before my time
This dude has a punchable voice. And face, actually.
Didn’t quite feel the import this one. Felt like a bland British pop punk album. The guy was somewhat talented in his lyricism but his voice wasn’t great and the songs were boring. Not quite sure how he became influential but I guess some people likes his stuff but not me. 2.6/10
No
I feel like this album was put in as a joke. Not even a good joke. Like the publisher thought "I could put in actual joke albums like Weird Al... No, people would know it is a joke. It has to be something with enough musicality and seriousness that they are caught completely unaware. Oh, I know..."
Did not like this one
Sorry dude, your gross lyrics made me turn this off right away
Not for me.
Can't say I enjoyed this. The vocal delivery style is so flat and lazy I don't understand how he was the vocalist. I don't find him a particularly effective screamer either. Certainly someone else in The Blockheads had to have had a better voice? Also, obnoxious cleverness really isn't my thing when it comes to lyrics, especially when it's just a relentless barrage of it. Musically it's fine I guess? Nothing that grabbed me enough to distract me from the vocals or lyrics though. Definitely wanted to skip a few tracks as I went through but I persevered, for what it's worth, which wasn't much. Seemed to get worse as it went on. Will be avoiding in the future.
Couldnt get past two songs
British. Can't sing. Can't pick a genre, can't do most of them particularly well. Perfect for this list.
terrible
Weird lyrics. Instrumentation wasn't that interesting. Not really for me.
The instrumentation is decent but couldn't stand the vocals. There are a couple of songs I didn't mind like My Old Man and Wake Up And Love Me but overall was pretty unenjoyable.
Listen to Madness better
Well this album was.... weird. Sonically diverse as they come, I'm initially inclined to give it some props for demonstrating such versatility. But I can pretty much guarantee I'm never coming back to this or nearly any of its tracks ever again. This music sounds like it was made Bert from Mary Poppins, if he was ragingly horny nearly all the time. The lyrics are insufferable, almost to the point of being charming, but only almost. The low point is hard to pick. There's "Billericay Dickey", a song so cringey I almost believe it was intentional. But I think the most genuinely disturbing song is "If I Was a Woman", which has some really rapey and abusive lyrics, not to mention the skin-crawling outro of "lawghing, lawghing, lawghing"... yeah I can't get behind that one. There are some cool instrumentals here, some compelling grooves, and some solid vocal lines. But I struggle to find anything here that I would return voluntarily, mostly due to the flat, ugly singing (which is often not even in tune) and the kind of gross, nursery-rhyme lyrics.
The groove on this album is great, I just feel like I'm listening to Bert from Mary Poppins sing about sex with an extra song about his dad. All jokes aside, the instrumentation on this album is really fun. The switch on "Sweet Gene Vincent" is really exciting and is the first time Ian Dury's voice is actually kind of okay. "Blockheads" is pretty okay as well because Ian's voice really comes out for real (if only he had someone else write the lyrics - it literally sounds like something out of Spongebob). "Billericay Dickie" is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. If he rhymed anymore than he already did on this album, I think I wouldn't have minded if we nuked the United Kingdom. It's like he's rapping at some parts but it's the whitest rap I have ever heard in my life. It's really a shame, because there are a lot of times the instrumentals/production are really exciting - and then he actually starts singing and I wish I were dead. I guess I could mention the first half of the album is very different from the second, but it's honestly pointless because both sides are really god awful. Needless to say, this album did not age very well. 1/10 not very good in deed at all.
I don’t get it
I have no idea where this recommendation came from and no idea why it would still be on the list. It's like Wayne & Garth wanted to take themselves seriously and make a comical record with no humor. Its hard to find something good to say about any song, though there are plenty that are standount unpleasant (billericay dickie, blockheads, blackmail man, sex & drugs, clevor trever). Ugh.
Horrible
This isn't a joke? I'm not being put on here, am I?
12th August 2021 Listened while clearing the house and getting ready to go to Suffolk for the weekend with Gareth's Sheffield crew. Weird one. Very of it's time with sexist and mysogenistic lyrics. Sounds like a bad stand up set put to music.
What a dyslexic nightmare of an album. British 2nd or 3rd wave ska, mixed with punk and funk.... some very low brow content. Did not enjoy.
This is virgin. Like take away the weezer radiohead virgin jokes because this is virgin. I do not enjoy this album Favorite song: None I wanted to die listening to this lmao
This album is too horny and also not good at all
This is a joke, right?
The instrumentals are pretty good on most of the songs, but that is it. Nothing else is good about this. 1/5 stars.
creepy and horrible!
Not an enjoyable listening experience which surprised & disappointed me
Liked some parts of most songs but they all outstayed their welcome. Lyric themes were pretty crude.
1/5 very irritating songs!
Terrible
Weird
Liked track 1
Would not recommend to anyone, would only bring up in conversation to state how bad it is
Kinda funny and bizarre but I just couldn't get into any of it and I can't understand its significance to the list
ew
fuck you.
