Reviews (page 3 of 13)
This has been a tough one for me to review. This album was with in my formative youth and its hard to not gush over it over a personal nostalgia. However it has problems that ive critiqued other albums on and i feel its unfair to give this album a pass because of the nostalgia trip. Undeniably an iconic album from the start of the new millennium, packed with iconic songs that have stood the test of time. The album suffers from multiple songs sounding far too similar to each other, to the point that even after all these years, i still need to check which song im actually listening to. Im struggling between a 4 and 5 but nostalgia is gonna win this out. 5/5 album final answer
Phenomenal album, one of the best alt/nu metal albums ever created
Legendary, Nostalgic, Genre-defining, Generation-defining.
This album will always hold a special place in my heart. I vividly remember when this came out, I was hanging out at a friend’s house, we were playing Final Fantasy 7 and he had this playing in the background at the time it was unlike anything I had heard, probably because I was very young, but still. I still love this album to this day.
No misses on this one. One of the best rock / nu metal albums of all time. Banger after banger and an absolute staple of my teen years, has to be 5/5.
Great, well balanced sound. Heavy rock but not overwhelming. Lots of depth to his voice and songs have substance.
This is one of my coming of age albums that was a favourite during adolescence so there is a certain amount of nostalgia that clouds my rating against other things I’ve never heard on this list. But seriously, I don’t know anyone that can listen to this and not immediately have a smile on their face. Great album, genre defining.
This was an absolute fucking banger.
All in the childhood.
This is just an absolutely amazing album.
Great OG album
Rating: 4.6/5 Short Review: Y2K angst in its final form—equal parts mosh pit, diary entry, and Windows XP loading screen. Favorite Track: “Papercut” – because nothing says “I have trust issues and a CD burner” quite like it.
Один из лучших альбомов, нулевых :)
Phenomenal. Absolute peak nu-metal artistry.
timeless
One of the albums of all time. I didn't realize this album was on the 1001 and it was the greatest surprise a man could ever ask for. I know there are people who say that this type of music is only for depressed or rebellious teenagers. I wholeheartedly disagree. I work in a profession where I frequently have to cope with issues such as suicide, death, mental illness, and many others. I find that often, listening to punk music is one of the healthiest ways to release some of the stress from work. Chester and Mike have voices that go incredibly well together. They are both talented vocalists backed by an amazing band. Everyone stays on beat and listening to any individual instrument, it is clear that each one has a purpose in the song as a whole. The songs sometimes seem repetitive, although each is unique enough to feel like the album is a grouping of different songs rather than the same song repeated several times. I don't have anything bad to say about this album. I personally dislike the band's new direction (no I'm not sexist, I just don't think that Emily or whatever her name is was the right pick to replace Chester after the tragedy the band, fans, and family of Chester experienced). Any grievances that I have about that have nothing to do with this album. Chester will forever be missed.
Just so good. I hadn't heard any song other than "Crawlin" and "In the End" but this album is filled cover to cover with playlist worthy songs for me. I don't know what more to say. I wasn't surprised, but glad my high expectations were exceeded.
One of my favorite LP albums. This one and Meteora are the essential LP sound to me, bringing together rock/metal and rap in the formative years of nu metal. Fav tracks: Forgotten, One Step Closer, A Place For My Head, Runaway Interestingly enough fan favorite In the End is probably the least strong track for me. Don’t remember anymore but possibly I have listened it to the point of exhaustion many years ago
Day 50 One of my most listened albums ever! I am very biased cause I grew up listening to Linkin Park! One of the best nu metal albums ever and my fav album by LP! (5/5) in all lifetimes.
chyba 5
One of the all-time great albums from the era, launched one of my top bands. Still full of bangers to this day.
amo este album
Insane Debut Album. Einfachste 5 Sterne bisher. Absolute Banger und zur richtigen Zeit im Jahr 2000, wo ich im besten Alter war das zu genießen. Haben meine Vorpubertät sehr geprägt. Lief ständig in meinem CD-Player mit Antischock.
A CLASSIC alt rock album.
I just cannot believe this is their debut
212/1089 - Shout out to that one /mu/ anon who listened to In the End 64,000 times.
One of my top albums of my teenage years
Epic album! Been listening to this album since I was knee high
What better review is there than the fact that I came back to listen to this again and again? 5
nostalgia may be heavily influencing my rating here but I don’t care. RIP Chester.
Love cure the itch
One of the greatest albums of the 21st century and full of nostalgia. To this day it's a killer listen. Favourite track = One Step Closer.
Amazing album, essential 5/5
I didn't grow up listening to Linkin Park though I had lots of friends who did religiously so I've heard lots of their songs throughout life. Very dynamic with the use of sounds/instrumentation outside of the typical four-piece rock band. Vocals are sharp ranging from clear and crunchy guttural screams, catchy singing, and trading off with rapping. An influential album for good reason.
Obviously I’ve heard a few of these before so I knew it would be good but I didn’t expect the whole album to be banger after banger
Classic album from my youth that still holds up.
What can I say about an album that I've listened to a million times before now? It still holds up like on day one. Still every single track a banger, still every word of the lyrics come to mind without even having to think of it. Still love this album, even if I thought "one step closer" was the new Limp Bizkit song while wondering why they look so different :D
Classic
This is the album that formed my early taste in music. Just about every LP album is important to me, but this one in particular hits different. Damn, what an incredible debut.
Awesome
This album is eponymous for those of us who were in high school or college during the late 90’s/early aughts. I didn’t like it then, and I don’t like it now, but I recognize the importance of this album and band. I’m glad I revisited it but don’t need to listen ever again.
A classic
Amazing
One of my all time favs. Damn near perfect album.
Nü Metal had bigger exponents, but this is the best album this genre (and this band) ever produced. The only bad thing about this album is how short it is, other than that it's a masterpiece.
Awesome. 5/5
The best nü metal had to offer. Great all around.
Likely a biased rating but do I care? No. This album reminds me of my angsty high school years. I feel it stands the test of time and the whole album is a banger. There are some great rage yell songs.
Sound of going round to Hoolsy's house. 5 stars.
Seamos sinceros, todo el mundo conoce In the end. With you: uno de mis últimos descubrimientos. Probablemente la mejor canción del disco junto a with you. By myself: vaya riffazo. Esta canción empieza la cara b con uno puto ostión en la cara. El scratch se compenetra con el riff de guitarra como un chino con las mates. Un muy buen tema, mega infravalorado. In the end: mimimimitica. 9/10->5/5
I was 15 when this came out. I don't care if I sound old, but you had to be there for this MTV Nu-metal era of music to really get the vibe. Wouldn't trade the late 90's / early 00's for anything!
A real throwback. Enjoyed this!
Das beste Album von denen, die ich kenne
There's so much to say about this. But in the end it's just a perfect album. That's it
Love this album.
Finnes ikke bedre nu-metal imo, så vidt meg bekjent. Mulig jeg liker Meteora bedre.
Love me some Linkin Park! Hybrid Theory and Meteora are incredible albums, I think I'd give a slight nod to Meteora, but love them both. Chester Bennington's vocal chops with Mike Shinoda's rap stylings, this was an unbeatable combo. The album starts out with some excellent rap with Papercut. One Step Closer is so good. Crawling was my first introduction to LP and still one of their top songs. In The End is my favorite song of theirs, listened to it so much over the years. Forgotten and Points of Authority are pretty nice. And Pushing Me Away is a great closer. One of my favorite albums of all time. Best song: In The End
Banger.
Growing up with Linkin Park, Hybrid Theory was one of their best albums for me. Revisiting this is a huge nostalgia trip. Solid 5.
It's mindbogling to think Hybrid Theory is a) 25 years old b) Linkin Park's first album. WTF? Twice
I'm biased on this. This was one of the first albums I bought. Got me into metal even though now I realise the connection is flimsy. Chester has an amazing melodic and understandable scream, the raps are energetic. While it's a very overproduced album, the nostalgia makes me forget. This is not an objective review...
I usually talk about how some bands have all the right ingredients for me to like them, but somehow still fall flat. Well, this album is the complete opposite. Linkin Park had all the ingredients for me to hate them, yet this album still turned out to be a really fun listen, even 25 years later. In that sense, I think it’s fair to say they’ve stood the test of time remarkably well. This was one of those albums I never felt the need to own, because everyone else already did. It was everywhere, on the radio, on TV, playing out of every car and bedroom window. And that’s exactly why, on paper, I should’ve hated this band. But somehow, even after not hearing it for about 20 years, I still enjoyed it just as much now as I did back then. For a band like this to still get that kind of reaction from me after all this time is almost impossible, so for that alone, I’d say this album deserves a higher rating than most. They had all the odds stacked against them in my book, but they pulled it off.
I mean come on, it’s hybrid theory. What better combo is there than high school angst and nu metal? Favorite track - One Step Closer
gosto de infância. sentado no chão da sala com fone de ouvido aprendendo ingles lendo o encarte
Some great artists mine for new sounds. Other great artists hybridize existing sounds in interesting ways. Sometimes they conveniently tell you right in the album title which of those they're self-diagnosing as! Such a wonderfully coherent sonic palette that borrows from basically every musical movement of the 90s - grunge, hip hop, industrial, electronica, nu metal. The nostalgia is coloring things here and I don't care. To me, you will always be perfect.
phenominal
Listened through headphones via Amazon. Certain parts stood out as new, having not listened all the way through in quite some time. Listened to some of the bonus tracks from the 20th anniversary edition. The By_Myself remix featuring Steph along with Kyur4 Th Ich were nice finds. Listened to it too many times for it to not be a 5.
Blast from the past, brilliant
nu metal my beloved
Loved it at 15, loving it at 33.
Kind of interesting that this is album #1000 and I would say that this is arguably among the top 3 vocals I've heard yet. Really powerful from start to finish and contains some very well known songs. Of course, very Nu Metal-y but this was super impressive even, especially for a debut album. 9/10
Listen, I already have this album as a perma download on my phone. This shit is amazing and peak linkin park. It's amazing, listen to it, feel deep things
Paper cut is a hell of a way to announce yourselves. Seminal nu metal. Era and genre defining. Aged like a fine wine. Excellent production.
Fell in love with this album as a kid and still love it! Linkin Park definitely one of the bands that got me into the metal scene!
Powerful and successful debut album.
This and 'Meteora' are peak early to mid 2000s high school anthems.
звучный альбом в классическом джазе. яркие мелодии в сочетании с яркими мелодиями предают успокоительный вклад в настроение слушателя. 6/10

I'll admit: it surprises me that most of the top-rated reviews of this album on this website are so negative. A whole sea of 1's... I mean, I suppose I shouldn't be **too** surprised, but I really thought people have turned around on Linkin Park and this album. I mean, I remember where I was when I was younger... Back when everything I perceived as even remotely "edgy" was a joke. Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, Evanescence... Heck, any band or artist mentioned in the fanfiction MY IMMORTAL. I'd seen "Crawling" used as a punchline enough times to feel pretty confident in my assessment. That's just the way things were back then, y'know? But then at some point, the tide changed. Even before Chester sadly took his own life, I kept seeing people lighten up on Linkin Park and their ilk. Suddenly, they were no longer just a big edgy joke. And I can't tell you exactly where it happened — for the culture or for me, for that matter. Perhaps in the case of the former, it was people looking back on their nostalgia and giving it an honest second chance... For me, though? I think I just realizied that this band's music is fuckin' awesome, and in fact maybe the best thing nu metal ever produced. Now, why is that? What sets Linkin Park apart from their peers? That I can take them seriously where I can't a band like, say, Limp Bizkit? And I think it just comes down to, like... An earnestness and sincerity in what they're singing. You can call their lyrics cheesy, or juvenile and angsty or whatever, but I never once doubted they weren't putting their all into these songs. Y'know, there was never a whiff they were just playing to angry white boys. While we can laugh at "CRAAAAAWLING IN MY SKIIIIIN" removed from the album's context, when placed within... OK, it's still kinda amusing, but never to the point where I can only treat them as a joke — unlike, say, Limp Bizkit. Besides that, there's also just my knowledge of their evolution. Everything they're doing on here (and I **love** what they're doing here) will be done tenfold better on their follow-up, METEORA. Beyond that, there was their shift into alternative on MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT, which was proof they couldn't be stuck in just this one mode. Contrast that against, say, I'unno, Korn? Whose biggest evolution, as far as I can tell, was a Skrillex production credit on one album, and otherwise they were still singing about the same high school bullies they always were. And beyond that, I just think this music goes hard as fuck. Sure, you can probably point me to a dozen or so "better bands," with more complexities in their music, or that aren't "watered down for parents" or whatever... But at the end of the day, I'm a simple girl. The guitar chugs are loud and awesome. The scratching that's worked in is fantastic. Chester's screams are damn something else. Mike's flows are just, mm, so flow-y. And hooks — hooks, man! Every song has its own memorable little moment. Sure, it's maybe just because I've listened to it so often that they stand out, but seriously. They all have a unique section, or a vocal line, or, jus', whatever. There's a reason why, even though METEORA is overall the better album, HYBRID THEORY is the one that's stayed as iconic as it has. I mean, which album has the "In The End" piano? There yah go. Which is all the more reason why it strikes me as so curious that Limp Bizkit can get a pass for being "fun" where Linkin Park apparently can't. (And to be fair, CHOCOLATE STARFISH **is** rated significantly lower than this album, **and** I'm largely basing this all on a handful of 1's — though highly-rated 1's, so it's not like people are disagreeing with them...) Frankly, the way I see it, it **is** a matter of sincerity. Y'know, Limp Bizkit on CHOCOLATE STARFISH **does** some musical chops, but a lot of it loudly drowned out by how much of an absolute clown Fred Durst is. It brings their sincerity into question, and, therefore, you don't hafta take them as seriously. Contrast against Linkin Park, who have **more** chops, but have frontmen who're clearly very sincere, and, well, if you don't like nu metal all too much... And that's probably another problem of it all: Linkin Park's genre placement. Which makes me all the more disappointed in these negative reviews, 'coz again, I think Linkin Park is the best thing the genre's ever produced. Not another band has had frontmen like Chester and Mike, backed with musicians this tight, and a complete earnestness. Seriously, I'm almost tempted to compare them to Guns N' Roses, who're a glam band I can hardly even view as glam because of how far they succeed in their genre. Like, if nu metal has to be represented on this list at all, there's not a single album that could present it better than HYBRID THEORY. I mean, look, I'm not that angry at those 1's. I'm not even trying to change their minds; I doubt they'll ever even see this review. I just think there are people who aren't giving this album the credit it deserves just because it's "angry, angsty music." As if the only people who could unironically enjoy this are angry, angsty white boys. Well, lookit me: I'm only one of those four things, and I started telling people to use she/they pronouns on me over a year ago. And like I've said, I think album is fucking blast. It's a truly explosive 38 minutes, and... Yeah, heck, I'll say it: it's one of those "entrenched in my soul" albums that I could never bring myself to hate. It's not Linkin Park at their best, but dammit, they never got more enjoyable than they did on this album. And if someone can't tune onto their level and enjoy it as well... I'unno what to say to you, buddy.
One of the best nu-metal albums of all time, simple as. Solid 5 Stars.
Yeah, that’s a 5. That’s my first time listening to a Linkin Park album in full, and I think I finally, finally understand just why nu-metal struck such a chord in 2000: it just sounds cool as hell. Even when we got the Limp Bizkit album on the list 275 days ago, I very consistently gave a lot of love to the instrumental side of that album, because I’m a sucker for nu-metal production tricks & soundscapes. The only thing that dragged that album down is Fred Durst’s goofy-ass voice, which I called a “gift from God” in the comedic sense. Chester Bennington, rest his soul, has a genuine gift from God on this one. The amount of power he’s able to belt with on this album is crazy It might not be everyone’s tea, and I’m sure a younger version of me would’ve dismissed it as some form of “melodic yelling” that couldn’t possibly stand up to "real vocalists". I’d tell that version of me to shut the fuck up nowadays – Chester gives an insanely captivating vocal performance that drags out every inch of emotion it can possibly muster, on some lyrics that are incredibly effective. It’s not super flowery language, nor does it evoke the sort of imagery that Stevie Wonder waxing poetic about the morning rain might, but it’s perfect in the way that it captures a specific feeling & a specific frame of mind, enhanced further by how well the instrumentation plays into it. Everything is in a harmony here that’s hard to describe, but easy to feel. All the credit in the world to Mike Shinoda, by the way; his rap verses & flows slide in perfectly to compliment Chester's vocals, and they absolutely glide on the instrumentals. Trust me, I’m someone who’s generally huge on lyrics, but I didn’t feel like they were deeply necessary to capture the mood of each track. That said, I need to go back and check them further, because I’m sure there are some moments that feel a bit more “poetic” than I’m giving this credit for. Regardless, I equate the overall performance to something more like slam poetry, where body language and intent matter just as much as the lines themselves do. These are brilliantly performed, and they never really overstay their welcome. A few tracks didn’t quite hit the same as others, but that’s to be expected with an album where the criticism of “all the tracks kinda sound the same” is somewhat valid (if a bit stretchy). With that said, much like AC/DC’s Highway to Hell, I’m willing to ignore it when the quality of every track is just that damn strong, and if you’re not willing to ignore it, you’re never, ever, EVER gonna like this album. Is it possible that I’m getting a little swept up in a first-time listen? I dunno, maybe. I don’t think I really care if I am or not – I mostly just feel like I’m beyond late to a party that I should’ve gotten into years ago. Hell, I don’t know that I would’ve appreciated this album as much without some of the metal-oriented stuff we’ve gotten on this list to this point. This is the nexus point of nu-metal in a lot of ways, because I do think everyone in the genre tried to chase the sound of this album after seeing just how damn successful it became. I’ve seen people say Meteora is better, and I may just have to listen to that one for myself. As far as this one goes… yeah, it’s a super easy 5. At the end of the day, it just kicks ass. Not one complaint from me.
Lieb ich, schon immer
Wow that was a great listen
Favourite songs: One step closer, crawling, In the end
Love!
Linkin Park are a certified classic for a reason. The music sets the mood for the entirety of the album and the vocals only add to this. Definitely an album I could listen to on repeat, though I do wish there was more screamo personally.
Még mindig 5/5
Looooved this album as a kid. Still slaps.
Amazing, Literally one if my favorite albums of all time
Awesome
The only good nu-metal album
Love it
Excellent cohesive album integrating multiple genres
Nostalgia gives this one a big fat 5 for me. This was one of my pre-rugby game go too's when I was younger. RIP Chester. One of my favourite live performances to watch online is Chester and Chris Cornell performing crawling. good friends who both committed suicide
God, this brings me back! This is one of those album I can't objectively rate it - it has too many memories attached. 14 year old me is too busy rocking out to it. Points of Authority hits especially hard in today's political climate.
A high school me favorite. Still hits hard 25 years later.
One of the best rock albums of this century
This is the DSOTM for nu-metal/rap-rock. If you're between the ages of 26-34 and you didn't listen to this religiously, that is a self report that you had Xx_N0-Fr13nd5_xX. Perfect album from a shit genre.
All day I've been asking myself, am I really going to do it? Am I really going to give Lincoln Park a 5/5? Such an awesome time capsul, more than that it is so unbelievably well produced. The sound isn't for everyone that's for sure. It's needlessly edgy, but not splatter edgy. Which path white boy, the sickness or hybrid theory? But it doesn't do this album justice, it's no wonder this album is beloved by morons who like I prevail and prentious music nerds alike. There's something to it man, mastering a genre commands respect. Bout to pump a white monster, punch dry wall and blast this all over again. 9/10
Always knew this was gonna be a 5/5. Say what you will say about nu rock but man Linkin Park in its own level. HAVING SAID THAT, everything prior to Transformers is gold, post Transformers, it dropped for me at least. Now when it comes to this album? It has in the end man, what else to say. Started it all. 5/5
How was this their first album? Such a complete sound, so many bangers, what a treat.
This one is a classic, so many bangers on this album. But also it's so sad. Because it was in front of our faces the entire time with Chester.
I'm perhaps a little nostalgic, but this album helped push me through my final year of law school and remains solid 25 years later.
groundbreaking, one of my all time favorites, RIP Chester
One of my favorite records.
Great album!!!
love it
10/10, no notes This album is top-to-bottom bangers, imagine your debut album going this hard. I grew up with this, so I'm biased by nostalgia, but it still holds up. Haters just hate the genre. RIP Chester. 5* Not even wanting to do highlights because all of it slaps. But anyway, highlights: papercut, points of authority
One of the greatest debut albums of all time!
This is probably the nostalgia speaking, but this is an easy 5* for me. In my eyes, it’s a classic and the best thing Linkin Park has ever done (which isn’t that hard to be fair). I get some of the negative reviews if you didn’t grow up with this, but it’s short and sweet for me.
Banging
This album hits home for me. I’ve probably listened to it hundreds of times over the course 18 years. It might be nostalgia but this album never gets old to me, maybe because over time, I’ve changed too - I keep picking up new things with each listen - perhaps it’s a new bass fill on A Place For My Head, or the guitar riff on Forgotten that I hadn’t paid attention to initially. Man, this album just makes me feel great. It reminds me of singing In The End at the back of the school bus. It reminds me of how Linkin Park was the first band I ever really loved. Standouts (currently): Papercut, Runaway, Points of Authority, Forgotten
One of my all time favourites. Pity none of their subsequent albums reached this level.
Iconic memories of youth - full of powerful, angsty lyrics - great alt metal rock. Every song is a banger. Love it.
Not sure how’s I’d feel if I hadn’t grown up with this but loved this album
It’s starts with ONE THING. I DON’T KNOW WHY. IT DOESN’T EVEN MATTER HOW HARD YOU TRY.
I actually pretended to like this in an attempt to impress a girl when I was about 12 and then actually LOVED it - very much my introduction to rock music. I really hate rap EXCEPT when it's got the backing of some heavy guitar music and a melodic vocal every now and then. Trailblazing album.
I can't express the how genuine the "fuck yes" that escaped my body when this album popped up after submitting yesterday's review was. Linkin Park is one of those bands that was everything to me in like 2006 but has not aged along with me; I'm guilty of immediately skipping any time one of their songs come on because I just don't need to hear In the End for the 2823rd time in my life. That being said, just a phenomenal album all the way through. Is it cringe? Is it shit rap rock? Is it everything I love to make fun of? Yes, but goddammit if these songs don't slap harder than anything else. I'm ecstatic I had to hear "FROM THE TOP TO THE BOTTOM" today as an assignment. With You and By Myself are low points compared to the rest of the album. I think Cure for the Itch is a solid instrumental but doesn't have much replay value. The only criticism I really have is I think the track order could have been better; it's confusing to end on the only instrumental track followed by an average tier song. In closing, if you've never seen Luckybucket's RSMV (Runescape Music Video) for In the End that is required viewing to cap off the day of listening to this album. Since I can't go 4.5 I will skew up to 5 because I think it's deserving of that.
Listened to this nonstop as a teenager. Brings me right back to that place and time. Happy to revisit this album.
Loved it then - love it now
Iconic start to finish
Shit slaps. There’s definitely some all-timers in this one
The easiest 5 I will give on here.
This album went crazy! I ended up enjoying this way more than I thought I was going to, admittedly. His voice was so raw with emotion and his screaming was so more harder than I thought Lincoln Park was. The lyrics may be a little corny but I’m sure that’s just me being judgmental and they probably helped out so many people.
I love linkin park!
Sounds like Kyle’s basement.
91/100. Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park is one of the best rap-rock albums of all time and, in my opinion, their best album by a long shot. Packed with great and iconic tracks, the record maintains a consistently high level of energy and emotion with no real lows. It’s an album that perfectly blends nu-metal, rap, and alternative rock, making it a defining release of its era. Almost perfection.
Awwwww yeah, what a treat to have this appear on this list! This record was my gateway into heavier music (from being a total pop girly) and I played it to death in my early teens. Always makes this list saga worthwhile when you get given albums you already love.
Because they came on the scene around the same time, I often lumped Linkin Park in with other groups like Limp Bizkit. I mentioned in my review of Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water that I lumped them in together and I regret this. After hearing Hybrid Theory, I have the same regrets. I was never a Linkin Park fan and only heard their music on the radio. I tend to move away from too much of the rap-rock songs on here like By Myself and Forgotten. Not necessarily my cup of tea. Otherwise, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this album. I do not know if I would ever become a Linkin Park-album type of person but there is a lot here to like. This, at least to me, is more important than any Limp Bizkit album as this was more musical and a better integration of rap and rock together. The only songs I would not recommend on here are By Myself, Forgotten and Cure for the Itch.
This is quite literally one of my favorite albums from my youth, I remember when I first heard Linkin Park and how much In the End blew me away and then when I heard this album the first time it was like transcendent! I had never heard such good heavy pop rock and they just kept getting better and better and there are so many bangers on this album it's like kind of mazy for a debut album! Solid 5/5 album!
This has so many good songs that I went to a 5. Overall, I would go a little heavier but the whole thing is just too solid for me to go to a 4. I’d be about 4.6.
Musically alone I'd probably give this a four, but I can't discount my history growing up with this album.
An album I have listened to since I was 4, an album that will ALWAYS be in my heart <3 PERFECTION THROUGH AND THROUGH, BEST OF THE NU METAL GENRE Every single song is a 5/5, don't make me choose between my babies
Was not a fan of this album when it came out, but it is good. Catchy lyrics, and strong energy
It's wild to me that this album has been removed from the newer editions of the book... While today this is an incredibly commercial mainstream album, when it released it was everything but. Nu metal was a outsider and though a few bands had success with it nobody had the kind of success Linkin Park was about to have. Mike Shinoda's rap flow and production merged with Chester Bennington's vocal skills and deep emotions led to an almost instant shift in what was considered mainstream and introduced a whole new generation to metal Standouts Papercut One Step Closer Points of Authority Crawling In the End 5/5
iconic
Nu-metal had been around for a little while by the time this album came out, but I feel like this is the album (and the band) that pushed it to the forefront of pop culture at the time. It’s hard to explain just how huge this album was to those who weren’t there to experience it first hand. It was everywhere, constant radio play, MTV (when they still played music at least some of the time), at the mall, in high schools…. Everywhere. I remember being in high school and cruising in my Oldsmobile with my CD player (with tape deck cord converter) BUMPING this album. 10/10 for me for pure nostalgia purposes alone, but I also feel like it stands the test of time.
This will be hard to judge without prejudice but let’s try. I have to say I liked it when it came out but then succumbed to the popular opinion in the metal scene which rejected nu metal. This is simply beautiful. Just perfect teenage angst music. Is it overproduced? Sure, are the riffs simplistic? Yeah, is the rapping kinda bad? Who cares????? This connects to the natural feelings of pain and alienation so many of us feel during our teen years. The album tracks are generally as strong as the very strong singles here (album tracks like Runaway and A Place for My Head could be great singles). This is pure fun to listen to top to bottom. I’m sure this album inspired countless kids to pick up a guitar and start a band, and gave a positive outlet to so many hard emotions. I think I’m inclined to give it five stars. I actually read through the other reviews saying this is poppy, over produced, and other ways to say this isn’t “pure” or “true”. I agree with all of that, but it’s still perfect. Is it my personal favorite album? No, but it’s definitely a seminal work in the history of rock music. You can hate on this album all you want, but countless people have and will rock out to it.
Perfect, no notes.
One of the defining albums of my childhood, specifically Middle school. Still a good listen
I don’t think they were the first of the Nu-metal bands or even if that’s how they would be categorized. Having had the chance to listen to this within days of limp bizkit it shows how much above LP is/ was above the others. To have this as their debut album is something. They were not a group I listened to when they came out and only got in through the Jay-Z mashup album and moved backwards, but I think they were the top of the genre at the time. It would have been interesting to see how they would have evolved if Bennington had survived. Not only at the top of the sound at the time but still a great album to this day.
Biased by this being one of the few albums i was exposed to in my youth. Nevertheless i loved returning to it.
It's a bit weird reviewing albums I know really, really well and I try to listen to them with fresh ears. Linkin Park isn't (wasn't?) the best band out there - I haven't listened to the new stuff - but the music is catchy and emotional, and every single track on this album is consistently good, even years later. It felt a bit "one note" in theme but I can't hold that against them. Due to the sheer number of good tracks, I'm going to rate this album a 5.
Nothing else you can say about this album than it’s a banger. Every song hits. I believe this is in the top 10 best selling albums of all time, if I recall correctly. The rap rock combo hasn’t aged the best but Linkin Park always had their own sound especially with the two vocal set up with Chester (RIP). Excellent album.
So much angst, so much trauma, and so many bangers. Some of it sounds very dated these days, and some of it is much harder to listen to than it was when it first came out, but still a solid ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for me. RIP
Solid album for a Friday
if there's a better altrock album, i haven't heard it
Bangers galore. Much nostalgia
OMFGGGG FAVORTITE OF ALLL TIMEEEE ALBUMMMMM HOLY SHIOTTTTT
A lonumental album to my youth. Admittedly, I think its sounds cornier the older I get, and the lyrics were always pretty cringe, but this is the best Nu metal ever sounded, in my opinion. It's aggressive, industrial, and does lots of cool things with it's beats and instruments. My favorite, that isn't Crawling or In The End, is probably Points of Authority. I like the hammer sound in the background and the jagged guitars. I still love this album and it brings a sound that only SOAD has touched on this list so far.
This album helped me get into music, and for that it will always be perfect.

Hybrid Theory is more than just an album — it’s a time capsule. I can’t count how many times I listened to this CD in middle school, and it still hits just as hard today. Linkin Park nailed something special here: a perfect blend of nu-metal aggression, hip-hop rhythm, and emotional vulnerability that spoke directly to a generation caught between angst and identity. Every track feels massive, from the explosive “Papercut” to the anthemic “In the End.” Chester’s raw vocals paired with Mike’s sharp verses created a dynamic that was fresh and unforgettable. Songs like “Crawling,” “Points of Authority,” and “One Step Closer” became instant classics — powerful, cathartic, and endlessly replayable. Whether you were blasting it through headphones or burning it into your first CD-R mix, Hybrid Theory was the soundtrack to growing up in the early 2000s. A flawless debut and a defining album that earned every bit of its legacy. Five stars, then and now. Favorite song: Points of Authority
Excellent. 5/5
OMG. My heart SOARED when I saw which album I got. Breathtaking. Amazing. Beautiful. Miracle. No skips, obviously. LOVEEEEE
Favourite tracks - One Step Closer, Points of Authority, In the End
I am very much a product of my time. My love for Linkin Park and Hybrid Theory in general is not that deep. Sure, I could argue the case that this is the pinnacle of Standard Issue™️ nü metal, aka not complex like System of a Down and/or not toeing the line of alt metal like Deftones. And I think that that’s the truth, sure. If you want heavy, bouncing riffs, DJ scratching as a texture, high-pitched snare hits and thumping bass, rapped verses and belting choruses, and hooks on hooks on hooks, you’re going to love this album. It’s the Platonic Ideal of nü metal if you need to get someone off their elitist high-horse, that’s for sure. And I think it’s important to historically acknowledge nü metal’s impact as something more than a joke or a footnote, and this is a very good album to use as a marker. But for me, all of that comes second to the fact that I just enjoy this. On a purely emotional level, I love every moment on Hybrid Theory. I always have. It was one of the first 10ish CDs I ever owned, and I rock out to it the same way I did when I was 9. I don’t need to intellectualize why I enjoy it, even though I could. It’s just a great mainstream metal record. It’s not that complicated, and it’s not that deep. I just like it a lot. That’s it. Sure, maybe it’s not the most interesting record in the genre [e.g. Around the Fur, Toxicity, S.C.I.E.N.C.E, Roots] or the most popular [e.g. Follow the Leader, Satellite, Significant Other]. Arguably, Meteora is a better ✨album✨ in how it blends styles and dodges expectations, plus it has stronger songwriting and is sequenced better; but Meteora is critical fodder that, while great, lacks the looseness and pure chemistry of Hybrid Theory. (This said, Collision Course is an essential album, I don’t care what anyone says.) I’m glad Linkin Park got a critical re-evaluation following Chester Bennington’s death, because they have always been a great band smeared by the elitist dismissal of nü metal’s kitschiness. And Hybrid Theory is proof of that in its purest form.
"It was a Crawling nightmare, but I kept Breaking the Habit and took One Step Closer to a Papercut I didn’t see coming. I was stuck in Somewhere I Belong, trying to figure out why In the End it all felt like a Points of Authority meeting. A Place for My Head seemed far away, but I had to remember that Pushing Me Away wasn’t an option. So I just kept on With You, hoping that I’d find the strength to keep Numb until I finally broke free!"
Please Babak don't give a 1
the first time i actually felt compelled to listen to one of the songs on these albums. also blind channel wants to be these guys so bad
How have I never got round to actually listening to this, and why did I always listen to the hipster brain telling me it wasn't cool and alternative enough to acknowledge that LP slapped?
Means the world to me!
No skips on this record. Great angry sound.
Chester will always be a Top 10 rock singer for me! Is this rating based on nostalgia? Probably. I’d give a 4.5 (but I’m going to give a 5 solely based on complete listen-ability).
FUCK YOU MOM I DONT WANNA GO TO SCHOOL ass album (Banger)
No notes needed
Hybrid Theory is the sound of lightning captured in a bottle. Linkin Park would cement themselves not only in the record books but into the psyche of millions of music fans that persists to this day with this immediate approach to rap, rock and all things in-between. No wonder why Hybrid Theory continues to rack up adoration and accolades close to a quarter century after its release.
Another album that's hard to be critical of since I loved it so much as a teenager. To me it still holds up pretty well though, and I like the mix of influences from metal, rap and electronic music. I do prefer Meteora but Hybrid Theory is still fantastic
the album that transformed my 6/7 year old brain into knowing about other music that could be hard and fast. growing up was 90s hiphop and spanish music, this is how I learned about music. this album is a pillar in defining the early 00s with their nu-metal sound. sure there was Korn and the like, but this was the first that truly went to #1 with their innovative orchestra of strings, beats and guitar riffs. Chester you will forever be missed. R.I.P.
honestly, i forgot how good this album was. Despite a consistent motif throughout both sonically and lyrically, it continues to strike at the heart of loneliness, sadness, despair, heartbreak and yearning for something greater. Chester's vocals embody the theme, and the lyrics of Mike really build out the message before slamming home that beautiful nu metal sound.
One of my favorites from high school
One of the best debuts ever. Solid from start to finish. Chester and Mike really make each other shine on vocals.
Thoroughly enjoy this album start to finish. Quite interesting how divisive the album is. Whether you absolutely love this album and listen to it often, or find it to be overdone, lazy, and late to the scene; you have to admit this is an absolutely unique album. Deserving of it's place on this list.
Loved this one! Definitely rocked to it in the car!! Will add to rotation. "In the end" is a timeless rock classic
Hard for me to be objective here; while listening to this I found that I still knew all the words to the songs that never even made it to the radio. That said, this album holds up really well. Yeah, it's tainted a bit by the nu-metal of its time, but I still enjoyed the heck out of a re-listen in 2024. I forgot what a great song "A Place for My Head" is. I know there's a line in one of their songs that "rock and hip-hop have collaborated for years" but I still feel like Linkin Park lead that charge in the 21st century. I'm not going to write a treatise comparing the influences of Run DMC and Linkin Park here; I'll just say that this album felt novel at the time and it's still fucking great. I wasn't expecting to see this one on the list, but I'm very glad it is. 4.9
I was a little tardy to the party on Linkin Park. Being fresh off the initial rap/rock boys club that is Limp Bizkit I needed a break and didn't give LP the attention that they deserve.
This one might be my most listened album this year, ever since I started listening to it on February I just kept coming back to it one way or another, mainly because of how it's such a good and consistent listen all the way through, all the songs are just incredibly well crafted and produced, they are catchy but also still have edge to them, the lyrics are so earnest that yeah it can be a bit much but personally I completely feel the emotions within them and even relate to them. It's weird to explain why I like it, especially with how maligned this album was in the past and the endless memes, but looking beyond that there is an honest to god great album that really showed that Nu Metal might be as disposable as people say it was. I don't know, I like this album a lot
One of the best
Before listening to this, I never really understood why this band had such a huge and dedicated fanbase. I get it now. It does feel a bit dated and juvenile, as most 2000's music tends to feel to me, but maybe I would have the same reaction to Nirvana if I was born in the 90s.
Somehow still know all the words to all the songs. This album is my youth encapsulated.
I saw a bit more discourse and dislike for this album than I expected to see here. My opinion: let the haters hate, this album is special and deserves to be here. Linkin Park did not create nu-metal nor rap metal -- those movements were already fully in swing when this album came out. That said, this album arrived during the turn of the millennium and really seemed to open these genres up to a whole new generation of people. It ensnared and primed that new generation of angsty music lovers before emo really took off. This album didn't rehash these genres, Linkin Park found a completely new way forward in mastering these genres. Chester Bennington goes all the way and leaves EVERYTHING on the floor in EVERY track on this album with unique, raw, and tormented vocals that cut right to the listener, the likes of which had not really been seen since Kurt Cobain. Following that Nirvana comparison, it bears mentioning that Mike Shinoda and the rest of the Linkin Park band have outstanding interplay with Bennington as well as a strong overall band synergy as well, creating very catchy and memorable hooks, mixes, and riffs. As a result, nearly everyone has their favorite tracks from this album that speak the loudest to them, but there is simply not a weak song or a skippable song to be found here. This is another album where it is just remarkable to witness what a band was able to conceive of and release right out of the gate with their first album. What a legacy they started! This album is a high enough 4 for me and revisiting the entire album for me was a lot of fun, so I feel inspired to round up.
so much better than i remembered. dated but still aged like fine wine, somehow
here after they changed a vocalist and dropped from zero this album is fire tho and never getting old
Duh.
I am not a huge Linkin Park fan, but this was awesome. The wall of sound they produce is really punchy and sonically powerful, while still being very melodic and music. I couldn't get enough of this album, so I listened to it twice. Five stars.
This is #day99 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... throwing Hybrid Theory at me on a day when From Zero is released? Well played, random generator, well played. Linkin Park. What does this band mean to me? Well, everything and beyond. LP wasn’t just one of my first exposures to alternative rock; it’s a band, whose music's been tattooed under my skin ever since. It articulates pain—a feeling that isn’t limited to adolescence but resonates with simply being a human. I used to scream my lungs out with Chester, rap along with Mike, scratch with Mr. Hahn, and bang my head to Brad’s riffs. I'm not even mentioning graffiti (there's still one on the wall of my parent's basement), haircuts, outfits (those Chester's shirts though!), and posters all over my room... That’s what Linkin Park means to me. And, beyond the personal connection, this is just incredibly well-crafted music. Smartly produced, catchy, and emotionally charged. Now, Hybrid Theory... Funnily, I’ve always considered myself more of a Meteora guy (although it’s not directly related, I’m also a huge fan of Fort Minor, which came onto the stage two years after). My first exposure to Linkin Park around 2004-2005 was via a mixed CD-R that combined both albums, plus a Hybrid Theory EP. So, for the longest time, I didn’t quite know which songs belonged to which album! And over the years, I've grown into being very much an album person. It wasn’t until I got my first PC and internet access a few years later (and finally got to watch Live in Texas) that I might have started to understand the distinction. One thing I do know for sure, though, is that Minutes to Midnight was the first album I consciously remember looking forward to. Still, some songs from Hybrid Theory send shivers down my spine to this very day. With You, Crawling, Runaway, In the End, A Place For My Head, and, of course, Pushing Me Away—these are the moments that not only define this album for me but are among Linkin Park's many timeless pieces. Yes, this is the one to check out before you die, hands down. A solid 5 out of 5. Looking forward to... well, wow, #day100.
a fantastic blast from the past - angsty fun
My brother and I grew up liking the same music and bands for years and this album was the first one I bought where it was a differing of tastes. I even remember being at the mall (I think FYE at the Garden State Plaza?) and having this CD in my hand and looking at eachother and realizing for the first time that we weren't twins or the same exact person. He didn't really ever get into the band but I am so happy that I gave them a chance. This album is really a force of a debut and was so refreshing for me to hear as a young teenager. At the time I was a young kid listening to old heavy metal music- Pantera, Iron Maiden, Metallica... bands that were active but already had established sounds and discographies and were acts that felt a bit distant and out of reach for me. A bunch of older guys playing stadiums you know? Then Linkin Park comes around and it's young heavy metal riffs through mesa amps, incredibly tight and compressed to hell drum grooves, catchy EVERYTHING- then a hip hop verse from Mike Shinoda and you are like "what the hell is going on" and then you get slapped with Chester Bennington's raw screams and chilling clean singing voice. Wow. My favorites have always been "Points of Authority" & "A Place for My Head"; both tracks that weren't huge hits but I think that's because I listened to the album so much and the singles were so ubiquitous that I found enjoyment elsewhere once I exhausted the big ones. Looking at the track list, there are so many modern classics on here- "Papercut", "One Step Closer", "Crawling", "In the End". Those three are on the same album- is that ridiculous or what? I didn't remember that those 3 are all on this album, I'm really blown away by that. Is there a better metal album in this century? Putting on my thinking cap for metal subgenres, when I think of the greatest metal albums that fit in this category and also released after 2000, I think of the following: Lamb of God - Ashes of the Wake Mastodon - Blood Mountain Mastodon - Leviathan Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf Between the Buried and Me - Colors Between the Buried and Me - Alaska Gojira - From Mars to Sirius Gojira - The Way of All Flesh Meshuggah - obZen Slipknot - Iowa Black Dahlia Murder - Nocturnal High on Fire - Blessed Black Wings Converge - Jane Doe Pantera - Reinventing the Steel Necrophagist - Epitaph All of these are amazing, amazing records and each have some special place in my heart. Does Hybrid Theory deserve a place on that list? I think so- maybe even at the top (note: that list is in no order). I love all of those albums listed for many reasons but none of them had the reach that this one had, or even as dynamic of a sound as this. It's at least a debate. A funny subcutural phenomena occurred with this album around the time when Chester passed away in 2017. For years this band became a bit of a meme in the "true diehard" heavy metal community, where they were thought of as kind of "soft" in the years prior. They were never really a true heavy heavy metal band, but they became a bit of a guilty pleasure for metalheads until Chester passed away, and then the milieu shifted and everyone was more openly accepting of the band and guilty pleasure became just a pleasure. Almost like a switch was flipped and everyone started saying "idgaf what you think i fucking love Linkin Park". It's a solid 5/5 for me, and one of my favorite albums of all time. In referencing my always-in-flux favorite albums list, it's around #12. On the right day it's a top 10. I've thought a lot about this album the past year, with the band announcing Chester's replacement. I don't like the choice. I thought a lot about the album and what it meant to me the year that Chester passed away, in 2017. It's a real time capsule / period-of-time record for me. My old best friend Matt from middle school loved this album and recommended it to me when we were kids, and listening to it while playing video games with him, his brother, and my brother are some of my favorite memories in my entire life. Whenever I hear this band or album I think of him and it brings me a lot of happiness. Matt's no longer with us and I imagine that he held onto our shared memories of listening to this album just as close to his heart as I have.
I was going to write a long review of this album. I tried so hard and got so far. But in the end it doesn't even matter.
If Linkin Park is a 5/5 band, this must be a 5/5 record. It's just iconic.
man hybrid theory gets a five sure whatever
The pinnacle of nu-metal. The death of Chester Bennington still stings 7yrs on - similar to that of Robin Williams, Chris Cornell, Anthony Bourdain, Philip Seymour Hoffman…. Hug your friends.
Consumed this album when it first came out.
RIP Chester, after re-listening to this album I'm standing by my belief that he's up there with the greatest rock/metal vocalists of all time. The beginning of each song gets you so hyped for the chorus, and then when the chorus finally comes I feel like that one levitating SpongeBob meme. 5/5
16/10/24 One of the few albums I didn't need to listen to, but listened to anyway.
神中神
Man oh man was i excited to get to this one. Hybrid Theory is my favorite album of all time and after this listen, i have stuck with that opinion. You really can't go wrong with songs like Papercut, One Step Closer, With You, Points Of Authority, Crawling, Runaway, By Myself, In The End, A Place For My Head, Forgotten, Cure For The Itch and Pushing Me Away. That sounds like a lot of songs huh? Well, that's because i listed every song off the album, they are all amazing with sublime instrumentals, incredible vocals from Mike and Chester and lyrics that may sound like typical teenage angst at first but are actually really mature once you look deeper into them. This is probably gonna be the last time i will say this is the best album i have done on this project because i don't think there is an album better than this one. Best Song: In The End Worst Song: Cure For The Itch (Side note: I wish Meteora was here too but i am still happy this one is on this list, also rest in peace Chester)
Goes Hard
Funnily enough, I've been procrastinating from listening to the albums on this list recently by listening to Linkin Park loads. Lots of nostalgia with the classics, but I'm also starting to love some of their less famous songs now. Have also been loving their live videos, incredible stuff, and feel like I didn't fully appreciate them when I saw them live. This album is a classic and just amazing.
Des pièces courtes et incisives, comme les papercuts du premier titre. À la fois lyrique et saccadé, la voix prend son envol malgré la lourdeur rythmique.
Sehr sehr geil
Ton of memories with this one
Takes me back to being a teenager and playing RuneScape, used to listen to this all the time. Great album.
Linkin Park's first two albums are genius. A perfect blend of rock and hip hop and electronic. A new invention that slaps. The record scratches, the screams, the digitized breaking. So good
One of my major life turning point albums when nu metal really found its feet and style, and still a near perfect album today. Every tracks a winner, shame about most of the albums that followed!
This album has nostalgia value to me and is overall a really great album, rest in peace Chester Bennington.
i can't even pretend to rate this objectively this shit banged when i was 6 watching the "In the End" music video on VH1 and it still bangs now
This is not my favorite LP album, but not long ago I was developing a ‘best of’ playlist for the gym and 10 of the 12 songs on this album ended up on it. As I’ve gotten older I realize the impact LP had on my 20s and 30s. I used to love and hate how every album was so different, and when the field was flooded with knock-off Nu-Metal and rap-metal bands it was refreshing to see that they endured. When Chester Bennington died it felt like a piece of us all did as he encapsulated the anger and yearning of so many GenX men trying to find their place in a new world. This album was a great example of that, and the collective effort of the entire band emoted a sense of empathy in each song. In the End, Points of Authority and With You are the Top 3. It fascinates me today, too, how even GenZ is gravitating toward LP. I am curious and grateful that they have decided to continue on, in whatever their new direction is.
Classic!
I tried so hard to judge this objectively, and got so far. But in the end it didn't even matter. Wasn't possible for me to do! I was 14 when Meteora came out, but I think 15 by the time I got into the album and the band at all. I worked my way backwards to Hybrid Theory from there. Meteora is the one I tend to reach for the most when I am in the mood for that nostalgia. It's been a long while since I have listened to this particular album and I forgot how good it is. Either that or my depth of appreciation has deepened with age. I found a new deeper appreciation for the songs that weren't hits on here. I also can't not view this through the lens of how much I loved this music when I was a teen. It just hit me at the perfect angsty age. Has to be 5*s from me.
Great songs, great sound. All around such a fanstastic album. Also, its my childhood so you can't beat the nostalgia.
WE FREAKING LOVE YOU LINKIN PARK love love looooooove this album !! 10/10
Absolutely groundbreaking album. Broke the rules by merging multiple genres. RIP Chester. Thank you for your gifts to the world.

Ультимативный шедевр, который изменил рок-музыку нулевых. Да и попросто лучший (как по мне альбом Линкольн парков)
Honestly probably the best “Nu Metal” if that’s what this qualifies as ever to come out from late 90’s to today. Some really good tracks on here I ended up adding 7 of them to my likes.
For years I've had issues with Linking Park being lumped in with the testosterone-fueled Limp Bizkit bros of "nu-metal." In my mind, although there is anger and aggression at times, there is much, much more o this band. The Apple Music blurb for this album reads, in part: When Hybrid Theory came out in late 2000, it was easy to lump LINKIN PARK in with other so-called nu-metal bands. The difference was in how they processed their anger. If anything, part of what made Chester Bennington so compelling as a frontman was his ability to explore trauma without ever trying to avenge or place blame for it—a huge feat, considering how deep his trauma seemed to run. So, while the rap/rock/industrial blend of tracks like “Papercut,” “Crawling,” and “In the End” redefined modern rock, they also called back to bands like The Cure and Depeche Mode: sensitive young men looking for a break from pain. As one of those sensitive young men during those years, one who felt and feels a very acute connection with the lyrics and the pain of Chester Bennington, I feel seen and understood.
Didn't listen to a whole lot but very edgy
I am 70. Only familiar with one Linkin Park song. Omg. Loved the entire album! Made my treadmill workout zip by! Added to my regular rotation 👍🏼
4.53
I'd planned on giving this a four, and then I saw the one star review on the top of the list.
Måske det perfekte album? Nej...
I was excited to see this pop up, having known a few of these tracks for years. The themes really speak to me. I also love genre combinations that effectively work together. I had never listened to the entire album before, so there were definitely some new ones I need to listen to again. I know many people do this rock rap style now but I can see this being innovative then. Highlights: Papercut One Step Closer Runaway In the End A Place for My Head
I am the perfect age to love this album. When it came out it blew my mind and I've listened to it hundreds of times Listening as an older man, it still absolutely BANGS. The mix of melody, beats and pure rage are just brilliant. There'll never be another Chester Bennington that's for sure. I can see how someone listening objectively might find this a bit cringe, but for me it is just 38 minutes of amazing music
Straight back to the early 2000s! What a debut album, providing the sound of a decade!
I love this album and it means so much to me. It really changed me. This came out when I was in high school and I listened to it on repeat over and over. It was the first time I felt like it was okay to not always feel okay and even if you are bubbly and happy on the surface a lot can be going on underneath. It sounds angry but actually really sad, and for real reasons. Mike's rapping says all everything while Chester's singing and screaming makes you feel the emotion so deeply. The opening of papercut takes me to a different place, with a perfect move into one step closer and just moves so well all the way until pushing me away. Beyond the hits I love A place for My Head. RIP Chester, you were an amazing artist
Hello old friend! God every track has some kind of memory, though it feels so old, like a piece of beach glass. that juxtaposition makes Chester's lyrics feel over done and over wrought. Still, the music is tuned to deliver what it has to say. Also did the drums for Runaway always sound this good? The mix is a little over compressed but that's the 2000s for you. How do I give this anything other than 5, even if its mostly a nostalgia vote.
Throw back to being 15 - 5/5
OH FUCK YEAH. god. This album is my childhood. Come on. How am I not gonna give this album full marks? It might be the nostalgia bias but it's my review I can do whatever I want. Papercut, In The End, One Step Closer I've been listening to to years and they're still fantastic works. Crawling is the one hidden gem I forgot that was on this record and it brought me back to my edgy teenage years. Absolutely amazing album.
One of the classics of the "Nu metal" era. This has a lot of pop appeal which probably is most obvious in the classics "Crawling" and "In the end", but there's a whole lot more and a really consistent album here, that has aged really well. Especially the lyrics seem pretty ahead of their time, back then it was not very cool and normal to talk about your psyche like this. But I guess that is one of the reasons why this record is still so relevant and revered even today. RIP Chester!
One of the few things that I heard as a youngling that has only gotten better as I have grown. This is in itself very impressive to me given that it was already a 5/5 to begin with
Yeah... This was fantastic. I loved this and cannot believe I didn't dive deeper into their work WAY sooner.
Nostalgia. This was big, and I listened to it all day when growing up. Linkin Park were a really outstanding band with good music and good lyrics in the 2000s.
Great album!
Epic album, quite vivey
Meu segundo album favorito da banda
Hybid Theory is another 5 for me. It hit me at the right time and blew me away, just like Green Days "Dookie", but a couple of years later. Linkin Parks colab with Jay-Z (Collision Course) where they mix their tracks really demonstrates Linkin Parks skill. For me, Chesters lyrics and vocals are essential, but the overall atmospheric sound of Linkin Park is so unique, and I think it seperates them from other contemporary metal-rap bands.
I can see why people see this as cringe or corny or whatever. But this album was huge for me, still a great listen. To me I think this was the first big Nu Metal with more legit rapping and electronic influence. It’s raw emotion and hit exactly what suburban North American culture was at the time.
Aaaaand I'm 15 again.
Das beste von ihnen.
interesting
10/10 RIP Chester
Things will get better. I promise
No-frills alt-rock/nu metal album that captured an era. Chester’s vocals are timeless and the lyrics apply for everyone frustrated with [you].
5/5
Has some fantastic singles but also more range than you immediately think of by linkin park
yesh
One of my favorite albums of all times, perhaps the best debut album of all time. The exploration, the genre pushing, the content. It never gets old and I’ve listened dozens of times.
For me this is a classic but I could see how if this album didn't come out while you were in elementary school/middle school/high school, it might not be as good. This is maybe the most accessible Nu-Metal? And some of the only good Nu-Metal out there. The hardcore Nu-metal people might say this is too soft and overproduced. Then the people that don't really consume harder rock probably think it's too hard. I love this album.
A really important album to me, released a month or so after I turned 18, and the soundtrack to my uni days. Will always remind me of my flatmate Dan, who could sing the whole album virtually note perfect (but needed me for the rapping!)
More bangers than a fundraiser outside Bunnings. Oooooosh
One of the best albums to come out of their generation, Linkin Park set a tone for what was to come, and inspired so many other bands that came after. It might have been Chester's softly spoken lyrics or his incredible growling screams, or maybe it was the infallible rapping of Mike Shinoda, and don't forget about Mr HAAAAAHN's incredibly scratching. Not to leave the rest of the band out at all. The group is wonderful and this album just pulled you in and made you feel that something special that they had found and were bringing to the world.
It is very nice! Hard and Heavy!
This album carried me through training for my first marathon. I'd pump this shit into my headphones on a long run after 2 hours of podcasts. Always gave me such a huge second wind for the last 45 minutes. RIP Chester
4.5 - This slaps. So much better than I thought it was going to be
I thoroughly enjoyed it, the secret is to like it ironically and pretend to be stuck in a 2007 YouTube video
Love Linkin Park
Classic album
Love this album
Love this album and Linkin Park’s energy rocking out. Rest in power Chester!!
A fucking classic of the nu-metal genre, and the best album Linkin Park ever released.
love
One of linkin parks greatest albums and a era defining album
Holy shit this album goes fucking HARD. Maybe I was too harsh on the rap metal genre fusion, it's hard to pull off, but boy when it works, it really works. Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock can piss off, THIS is the rap metal I want to be hearing.
A fucking classic
This bangs. Feels nostalgic even though I've only known it for two years, I'm looking back to that one time I was scraping moss off the roof. Maybe I'm not mature enough to hate this album or something? Doesnt matter, really
Lot of nostalgia with this album.
Fantastic. Remember when this album came out and people were all talking about Linkin Park. Unfortunately since the death of Chester they faded away though I did hear a rumour of a return with a female vocalist. Lots of great tunes mixed amongst the better known tracks. Fantastic.
Pure nostalgia
It's sad how many people can't see the greatness of this record. As 2000s kid, this was a pivotal album that introduced me to a whole world of 90s rock and beyond. RIP Chester.
Literally every song gets me fired up. Makes me want to run up to my room and slam the door after dinner.
Another generational piece
Angry and cathartic. I don’t recall liking it when it came out. I was 4 so, that’s natural. However, over time, the more I listened to it, the more I enjoyed it. In the End became a staple song on my playlists growing up and that, along with One Step Closer, make this an album I won’t skip!
Peak 2000s music here, at least on the alternative side of things. High school me was so proud buying this with my first paycheck, but now present day me hurts knowing these songs are just a couple years away from the classic rock stations. More hits on this album than not, and my most consistent criteria for rating is one star per song I want on my playlist. This has over 5. Favorite track "Papercut" 6/5
I grew up on this album. Early internet days of over the top music videos and amvs to the sound of Chester's iconic voice. I miss Linkin Park. Favorite track is crawling.
Based on vibes and vibes alone, this album is a ten. Hit after hit. Technically, however, I believe it’s also a ten. Lyrically, instrumentally, production, writing, etc. It experiments without becoming a cliche of the genre or alienating itself. It has range succeeds in every area. Chester’s incredibly powerful vocal performance on every track gives the album an energy that no other band can replicate. And just when you realize the album is perfect; it ends. Not overstaying its welcome, but leaving everyone wanting more. A true gem. 5/5
I'm yelling along with literally all of these songs.
Oh wow. I've never listened to Linkin Park - I kinda always assumed they were too heavy for me. And they are close, but I loved the musicality of this album. I didn't realize they were a metal/hip-hop/rap fusion band. I was also shocked to learn this was a debut album when I went to the wiki after my first listen. It's such a polished album! Very cool stuff! Unsurprisingly, my favorite track was the one with the piano: In the End.

5 Stars easily. This one is a classic and my favourite Linkin Park album.
one of my favourites all time! beautiful!
5 stars!!!! LOVE Linkin Park!!! One of the best bands ever!!!
This probably comes as no surprise, but I’m a fan. I appreciate the blend of the harder rock, more pop-rock, and sometimes hip-hop. It’s a little more overtly angsty than the stuff I listened to in my angsty teen phase, but it still has a special place in my heart.
🥲
Album is amazing
What should be considered one of the nest albums in hostorynof recorded music. Linkin took the world by surprise acheiving what only the Beatles could do over and over again, to have 90% of the album become successful singles each each song being more powerfull and better than the song before. Nu-metal with rap and strong lyrics and riffs. Simply a perfect album from start to finish, that captured the feeling of hopelessness of a whole generation. The combination of an insanely great voice on Chester (RIP) and power chords with desperation and anger is a helping hand to all people feeling the same way. Its not only the great music is about how this album saved lives by talking their truth. The successful formula that was Limp Bizkit was perfected by Linkin Park making this the best LP of the 2000 by a mile. They repeated the dose in their next album and as great as Meteora is and should be considered top 20 of the 2000. There is absolutely no way to top perfection but they tried and second chance they were almost perfect as well.
Disregard the obscenely long top review at this time. {19-3-24} Go in for a listen with an open mind and enjoy
So I grew up on Hybrid Theory and Meteora. 5 Stars.
Bangers all around
After all these years I still love this album.
SOOO GOOD i love u chester bennington 5/5
CRAWLING IN MY SKIN
Hell yeah
confusion. rage. anxiety. every lyric i hear in this classic album is just so goddamn resonating with a guy like myself. jesus i can feel it down to my bones. this album is great. first-time listeners will be quick to call it angsty "emo" music but when you're going through plenty... this is an album that really expresses all that anguish and turmoil.
10 out of 10
still an awesome album!
Best in headphones.
Instant 5 for me. All-time great album. RIP Chester
Not a bad track on the album. These guys are some of the best in the rap/rock genre.
