Reviews (page 3 of 14)

Soft 5. Banger start, middling mid, good ending.

Awesome. Made my day! Every song a banger, especially A Day in the Life.

Basically a perfect album

Iconic

I still question my thoughts on the Beatles being based on the fact that I was so exposed to them at a young age, and that maybe the more I listen to this list and broaden my musical knowledge the less impressed I'd be with them. But one more Beatles album down and, if anything, the opposite is happening. This album is insane, the Beatles were insane, and it's becoming more and more likely in my mind that nobody will every really come close. This being the first album the group put out after permanently retiring from touring, the band really pushed the boundaries of what they could do here. Technically, using sound effects and tape manipulation in innovative ways, and nailing it every time. They also pushed forward the ideas of concept albums and art rock, creating a story around the titular Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and its fictional performance. Once again, the first side is immaculate. The opening trio of songs are all mega hits, of course. If anything, I wish the flow of the album felt exactly like the transition between the first two songs for the entire album, like it does again with the final two tracks. After reading that Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane were left off the LP, it's wild to think that somehow the album could have been even better. Things slow down just a hair on side two, but then I've never been a huge fan of the stylistic choices of Within You Without You or Lovely Rita. Then to end the album with an electric reprise of the opening track and the absolute masterpiece that is A Day In The Life solidifies this as not only one of the best Beatles albums, but one of the best albums of all time. Highlights: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band With A Little Help From My Friends Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds Getting Better She's Leaving Home Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite! When I'm Sixty Four Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise) A Day In The Life

This is a cornerstone album. It fundamentally changed what an album could be, moving beyond a simple collection of consecutive singles. For its time, it was groundbreaking—combining experimental and progressive tracks with surprising genre variety. Definitely a 5.

This is a 5. I could write a lot about this CD, it's possibly my very favorite all-time. But I'm not sure I could say anything nobody else has already said. So how about this - I would think hard about putting the reprise #1 overall favorite Beatles song. I wouldn't - I'd probably put "We Can Work It Out" - but I'd think hard about it. It's a banger. That drum beat, that blasting guitar, the snarling riffs, the key change, it just crushes it. Every CD has at least one dud, and I don't think there's a single CD that couldn't be improved by cutting the worst song. "Within You Without You" is that dud for this CD. But it's not that bad. Every other song on here is strong. I'm not a huge fan of "A Day In The Life". It gets a lot of praise, I think partly for innovation, partly because it's a true L/M collab. But so is "Getting Better", and I think it functions better as such, and is a better song. But man, the transitions in "A Day In The Life" are just chilling. First, the transition out of the reprise, with the crossfade into those sad, lonely chords, it just has this incredible sense of mystery revealed, like you've peeled back the curtain on their whole Sgt. Pepper's act. And then the crescendo at the end into that final mega-chord, it's just a triumphant way to end. Forget the influence. I listen to this a couple times a year because it's just amazing, and probably always will.

Already know I love this one :)

Iconic band and my favorite Beatles albums. 2 songs added to playlist.

Beatles Pro Max

The Beatles are a band who are impossible to ignore. Whatever we listen to today has it's roots in the music of the Beatles(who in turn were inspired by blues and rnb musicians who predate them). Listening to Sgt Pepper's for the nth time today, I was intrigued to recognize musical parts that I have missed before. The Beatles truly acted as a collective unit. Ethan Hawke is right. There is no favorite Beatle.

I love this album, it’s so much fun. I haven’t listened to it in so long.

Second time this album has showed up on my list, (255 and 47) still as good as it was the first time

This is the first album I ever remember hearing. The sleeve is what probably drew me to it at first. It was in my dad's record collection and it seemed to stand out and the colours made it something a very young child would be drawn to. That very record sleeve is up on the wall in my living room now. The descriptions of marmalade skies in Lucy in the sky with diamonds really stick out in my memory too. However, as time has passed it's clear that it's not their best work. They made better albums with better more consistent songs but this will always be the most important one for me.

Just wonderful.

One of the greatest albums by one of the greatest artists however not my favourite Beatles album which is Revolver.

This album is, like, their Sgt. Pepper's.

One of the few like good albums in my house growing up along with some other Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, Mamas and the Papas and (hell yeah) the Kingston Trio. I would say of the parents' record collection this was the best. Also a big fan of the Sgt Peppers Movie with the Bee Gees, just take it on its own terms and it's a pretty delightful midnight watch.

The Beatles, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Album #15. I think in recent years this album has become underrated. I know Rolling Stone had it ranked as the greatest album of all time at one point, and now it’s somewhere in the 30s. It feels like it’s fallen a bit out of favour in Beatles discourse compared to Revolver, Abbey Road, and even Rubber Soul. I think this could very well be their best album. Conceptually it’s definitely their most sound album, and maybe one of the most conceptually sound albums ever made. The whole Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band idea is genius in my opinion. It was a great turn for the band to make, and I think they threw themselves into it. The tone and style are about 90 percent consistent with the concept. And it’s just fun. There are a lot of great songs on it. I think it might be McCartney’s strongest album. He’s all over it. While I wouldn’t usually jump straight into his more granny, sitting by the kitchen sink type songs, this probably has his best ones. She’s Leaving Home is great. I love Lennon’s vocal contributions too, even when McCartney is leading. And Lennon’s own songs are spectacular. It’s hard not to listen to A Day in the Life and think it’s one of the best songs ever recorded. My only gripe is Within You Without You. I don’t think it fits the tone of the album. Before anyone gets annoyed, it’s actually one of my favourite songs on the album on its own. I listen to it regularly. It just doesn’t fit the rest of the record in my opinion. It’s also Harrison’s only solo writing credit on the album, so maybe that’s just where he was at. I sometimes think about what it would have been like if Strawberry Fields Forever or I Am the Walrus had been on this instead. That would have been some tracklist. Look, it’s The Beatles. It’s arguably their most famous album and it’s just a cracker. I’m trying to limit five star reviews, but it’s very hard not to give this one five stars.

Classic

I love this album.

Good album

A journey through an Alice in Wonderland-esque psychedelic fantasy. Beautiful orchestral arrangements. Equal parts uplifting/ sweet and dark/ depressing. Truly transcendent. Better than I remember. Overall I would rank this higher in the Beatles catalog than I would have before this re-listen. Honestly might be better than Pet Sounds.

Nothing to say that hasn't already been said. Love this.

What can I say

This will do just fine.

Their eighth album. Pop Rock / Psychedelic Rock. A masterpiece! The album's structure is flawless. Each track is a delight. With A Little Help From My Friends and Lucy In The Sky are two amazing tracks. However, the final track, A Day In The Life is one of the finest songs ever written! An incredible song. This is one of the great albums. I adore it. Thankyou John, Paul, George and Ringo, not forgetting Mr Martin too.

I love The Beatles! I'm the most arrogant girl in the world and feel (nay! KNOW!) that I can add something new, creative and insightful to the endless words that have already been written about the greatest album ever made and likely the greatest work of art to come out of the 20th Century so here we go... nah, J/K I got nothing. I'm just a girl that loves The Beatles. I love The Beatles. I love that no matter how challenging my day is at the end of that day or any other day I get to go home and play my Beatles records and I get to feel as alive and as blessed as anyone has ever felt or will ever feel. It's a beautiful thing when you find something in life that satisfies your soul so deeply that you are in want of nothing. There is no higher love. I have dreams and goals for my life just like anyone else but if most of those goals and dreams never come to be that's OK because out of billions of lifeforms, I got to experience The Beatles. I got to love The Beatles. I got to grow and learn about everything under the sun with The Beatles providing the soundtrack and what a soundtrack (!!!) and that's a wonderful gift that makes for a wonderful life, however long or however brief. No matter what happens I know when I'm on my death bed that I will think as I fade away to that yellow submarine in heaven that it was a full life. A good life. A life that would not be half as good without The Beatles. When a work of art has such a profound effect on you embrace that gift because not everyone will ever feel such love and profound passion for anyone or anything in the world and a life without love, without passion is no life at all. P.S. I love The Beatles! I would not trade that love for all the gold in the world. I owe my intense (at times overwhelming) love of music to The Beatles and my father- the greatest father EVER! FIN! The Beatles better than sex since 1962!

Classic

I understand that some people consider this one of The Beatles' weaker albums, but it's still so good. They wrote this album on acid and it's still an absolute banger. All-time greats like Lucy in The Sky and A Day in The Life make this album an instant classic. I'm going to have a very hard time giving any Beatles album less than a 5.

So inventive and creative. Blows your mind.

In my early teen year this was my favorite beatles album. Since then a few others have overtaken its place. Still an lp that warms my heart. Great psychodelic vibe. Strongest ringo song. And a day in life is a master piece.

Excellent, loved this album since I first heard many many years ago.

My rating : 4.8 Again it’s the Beatles. Second album of theres so far. I’m sure not the last.

a fantastic album

I could be snarky about how this is the fifth best Beatle album or whatever, but it's an automatic five stars. (Listened to the 2017 Giles Martin remix which I consider the definitive stereo version. It rips so much harder because the mix has actual nuance to it and also a real fucking bass sound you couldn't get in 1967.)

Yeah, it's a five. Jesus Fucking Christ, "A Day In The Life" is one of the coolest songs ever. How in the hell did this come out in 1967? How could they possibly have come up with all of this? How were they so far ahead of their time? One of the first concept albums, one of the first prog rock examples, one of the first successful uses of eastern music in western pop -- oh yeah, and it's a legitimate cultural touchstone. Fuck me. Now, I will say -- I don't think it's as flawless as "Abbey Road." This one is perhaps a touch less timeless. Still, it's pretty freaking hard to beat.

98/100

Love all the experimental trippy sounds Just love this album - very fun listen, so many great individual songs as well as cohesive-ness.

Qualityslop, you guys only like this because it's good. For real, probably their best album. Not a single song on this album I don't like. The Beatles at the top of their game, it's all downhill from here. It's still rife with the beatles smelling their own farts and presenting other people's ideas in a palatable way, but it's a seminal work for a lot of music I enjoy to this day.

The easiest and funniest music contrarian opinion to have is to say something neutral or negative about The Beatles. It's fun. For example: Let It Be isn't actually that great! John Lennon and Paul McCartney are not better songwriters than Robert Hunter and Jerry Garcia! See? It's so fun. Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club band is probably the most critically acclaimed album ever. Rolling Stones thought it was the best before it was reminded that people made albums after 1967 that were really really good too. I prefer Rubber Soul over Sgt. Peppers, but my honest opinion is that this is still a phenomenal album, minus a couple of tracks that if Lennon/McCartney never sang it, people would've hated it like Getting Better, Fixing a Hole and When I'm 64, that last one is more of my own opinion over the other two. It's a very good thing a band as huge and enormous like The Beatles did LSD because that made their music significantly more fascinating. Certainly scared the shit out of folks like Nixon. I'd say more about that but you should make your own journey to Erowid and see other people's stories on it.

You're a very lovely audience

(7/7) It must've been crazy when this came out

One of the best albums of all time. I can't imagine that anyone has not listened to it. If you haven't do so.

Beatles are always a banger

Amazing

A great one!

I listened to this on Spotify on the TV and it has like the artist background that it displays and for the Beatles it’s ringo John and Paul #justiceforgeorge

No private session used for Spotify. At my age I think I am a bit burned out on this album and avoid it. It is undeniably a classic, not only is this album filled with great songs, it has an intense variety and none are pastiche slop that distracts from the work as a whole. Listening to this album got me in the mood to listen to nothing but Beatles for the remainder of the day.

This may be a top 10 album …

amazing. it was a listening experience. Better than I thought it was going to be or expected and I know it’s good. Phenomenal album. Enjoy it beginning to end. The surprise track to me. She’s leaving home. Either I’ve never paid attention to it or I don’t know what, but that’s getting multiple listrns out of me today.

This is Sgt. Pepper’s, therefore it gets a five. For all the naysayers who think this is overhyped, and think people like it only because they’ve been told to, conditioned by societal expectations, listen again. Admittedly, not all the songs here slap, but they are all essential. My hot take, which everyone will disagree with, is that Within You Without You is actually the best Beatles song. Most reviews here skip it entirely in their track by track breakdown. I think that’s because it’s so far out of left field, people mentally squeeze it out. But I don’t think the Beatles ever accomplished anything so reverent, philosophical, heavy, and purposeful. The song transmits a message, and even if it’s completely appropriated from Indian culture, at least Harrison was so freaking into the religion that he really really lived it. This wasn’t halfassed mysticism. This is George Harrison. The next best song is Lovely Rita, which some might call a throwaway. The worst song, despite also having an interesting message, is She’s Leaving Home. This is a mix of Paul’s grandma shit and the story many of the flower children could relate to, breaking free and establishing personal freedom after a youth of constriction. It just sounds to me like that constriction they’re escaping! Lovely Rita, even though it’s about an innocent crush with a meter maid, sounds like that freedom to me, stylistically, sexually. It doesn’t matter if Rita represents the ‘man’, she’s a flesh and blood human under that uniform. A Day in the Life is a modernist poem in music. Everybody loves this and have spilled enough ink that I’ll just say, I agree, it’s excellent. I always liked Abbey Road and The White Album better than Pepper’s, but the fact that what I’d call their third best album is a five out of five, that’s what makes the Beatles just a truly spectacular phenomenon.

Amazing!

Mis favoritas, sin duda A day in the life, pero también Being for the benefit of Mr. Kite! y Getting better. 5/5

I see why people always rave about the Beetles now, this album is so weird and quirky yet amazing. Every song on here is catchy and unique. My favorite song was Good Morning Good Morning. This was the first ever Beetles album I have ever listened to, and I think this was a great introduction to their discography, I can’t wait to listen to more of their albums! Easy 5/5 for me.

10/10 one of my favorite albums ever.

The Beatles are my favourite music artist of all time, but they weren't always so. Back in 2017 the 50th anniversary edition of Sgt. Pepper was being released and this was my first full introduction into the Beatles. The AV Club did a track by track review that I listened along with and I fell in love in real time. I had never heard anything quite like it and thought it was absolutely brilliant. These days, Sgt. Pepper is not my favourite Beatles album, it's probably 3rd, but it is the most important one.

Oui, monsieur je dis oui

One of my favourite albums ever, it's a magical mystery trip

legendary of course. More innovative than i remember and has some greats tracks mixed in with the bangers

After getting Rubber Soul, all I can think when I get The Beatles on the list is "crap, The Beatles." Apparently, all they were missing was LSD. To be fair, I feel like most artists would do at least a little bit better if they did a little LSD before writing their songs. Not everybody can be Frank Zappa. This is the album that finally makes me understand why The Beatles are so popular and critically acclaimed and whatnot. Maybe it's the music nerd in me going crazy about the fact that Good Morning, Good Morning has a bunch of time signature changes, or just how generally experimental the album is, or just the fact that it isn't Rubber Soul, but this is the one Beatles album I've found so far that I honestly wouldn't call pretty overrated.

Monumental album for the Fab Four and the psychedelia movement.

Sgt.

I feel like upon a closer listen, this has some of their highest highs and some not so good songs. I think they were probably too high out of their minds to tell what was good sometimes, but I obviously don't think anything like this exists, both in concept and in practice (whatever that means). I feel like also some of the best Lennon/McCartney songs are on here, like day in the life, and she's leaving home, as in they both compliment each other so well, which totally stopped as of the White Album. John Lennon's vocal performance and songwriting style around this era is unlike anything ever done by anyone ever I think. I love the slap back type overdubbing. I feel like there's some songs on here, like good morning, good morning, which just aren't that good at all, which is a shame, as I think stuff like that stops me from saying its their best album. I love the Ringo song obviously, its probably his best one in my opinion, and she's leaving home has been my favourite Beatles song as of late. Favourite songs: with a little help from my friends, Lucy in the sky with diamonds, she's leaving home, being for the benefit of Mr Kite, lovely Rita, a day in the life. Overall around 9/10

Vibes were immaculate

I’m trying to rate these albums in the context of the style and time in which they appear. Beatles albums are never going to top my personal lists, but I do thoroughly enjoy this one. Everyone should hear it.

The Beatles were rather good.

How do you not give this 5/5?

One of the best

Brilliant on a listen through.

Babe Ruth. Michael Jordan. Tom Brady. Serena Williams. Citizen Kane. Billie Holliday. Monet. Shakespeare. “Sergeant Pepper.”

Wrote the best paper of middle school on this album

I love the Beatles and while this isn't my favorite of their albums its is still up there with many classics. Every time I listen I am transported into the backseat of my dads car singing all the wrong words but having the best time. This album is weird in the best way and makes each song a joy to listen to either on their own or together in order.

makes me feel cuckoo bananas crazy i love it

truly this changed the world and i'm not even being facetious.

Amazingly innovative, but also has the dings to back it up.

Don't even need to listen to the whole thing, we know every song for a reason <3

i grew up on this album. i have endless love for it. except for lucy in the sky with diamonds, because my bus driver in elementary school played the same radio station every day, which happened to also play lucy in the sky with diamonds at the same time every day. i can't ever enjoy it.

Beep boop test

✅️

This is definitely one of my favourite albums of all time.

One of the all time best psychedelic whirlpools of emotions, creativity, and pushing boundaries ever contributed to music. Life changing, mind altering

Wow. Back to back favorites, this one from childhood. I am absolutely not going to hear this with new ears. I played Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite so many times that my tape broke.

9 Gotta give some respect for one of the first concept albums of all time. It’s a classic ya know!!

117 albums in, I'm surprised it took me so long to get a Beatles album. Sgt Pepper's is deserving of it's acclaim, through it's impact, production, concept and notoriety. It is packed full of all-timers, and feels fresh yet nostalgic at the same time. All that said it's pretty far from my personal favourite Beatles album, but still well worthy of the 5*s. 9.5/10

No explanation necessary.

Classic. Need to get on vinyl.

Iconic album. There’s a reason why the Beatles are still the most well known. Gotta be 5 out of 5.

Pretty cool honestly. The enthusiastic Canadian from Project Hail Mary was kinda right. Awesome album.

Still as magical as when I first listened to my Dad’s well worn vinyl just a few years after release as a young child. Definitely a contender for the best album of all time. Best Beatles album? Good question! McCartney’s bass playing is worth listening to in itself apart from everything else.

5 stars. No notes.

Not really an enthusiastic of the Beatles, but this is definitely one of my favorite moments and album coming from the band. The psychedelic feel to it and the sense of it all being a concert from the fictional band they are portraying makes this a really interesting listening experience. Standout tracks to me are With a Little Help from my Friends, Getting Better and Within You Without You.

GOAT. Enough said.

This album is great. It's not as fantastic as Abbey Road – because that album is marvelous and a tough one to overpass –, but it's one of those experimental Beatles albums that are full of different influences, in this case, very influenced by Indian music, and also a lot of joy. This album is a musical trip, but a very eclectic and enjoyable one. The songs are great, the album is fabulous, the different layers and musical arrangements are very well delivered in this masterpiece of an album. So, let's not compare, because it's not "still" Abbey Road, but it's such a huge album full of great music, experimental and full of joy at the same time.

Very good album, a classic

One of the better Beatles' albums

I love this so much. The only song I don't like is She's Leaving Home, and that's mostly because it's one of the cringy, overly sentimental Paul songs (sorry, Paul!). I adore Within You Without You. This is just so filled with incredible music. I can't imagine a world without it.

★★★★★★★★★

I mean like, come on.

One of my favourite albums of all time, I have listened to this album countless times before and I am still blown away at how innovative this record is to modern music today. The opening track is one of the greatest ever and the closer just somes it up perfectly for me: Amazing

Really interesting album tbh, crazy how ubiquitous it is despite being kind of bizarre lol. But honestly, it earns the score from just a couple songs. Any band should be so lucky to record Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds imho

Probably my favorite Beatles album

I admit it, it’s really good, but A day in the life, NO WAYYYY

Perfect album. No skips.

Simply a brilliant piece of work and astonishing to think it’s almost 60 years old. The world is so lucky that the stars aligned to give us to gift of The Beatles.

Playful, psychedelic, and endlessly imaginative. Rating: 4.9/5 Short Review: This album feels like a band reinventing itself in real time. Colorful, theatrical, and deeply creative, it turns pop songs into a full surreal world. It is ambitious without losing warmth. Favorite Track: A Day in the Life. Haunting, grand, and quietly devastating.

Got this on Boxing Day. Perfect belated Christmas gift. No notes.

Cheerful music for sad little weirdos like me

Sixty stars out of five. It’s on the extremely short list of best records in history, and yet remains underrated.

Already listened many times love it !

This was a great start to my journey of broadening my music taste. i loved how descriptive the lyrics were, it was like i was watching a movie through the songs. my top 3 songs were 1. she’s leaving home 2. within you without you 3. a day in the life. i really liked this album.

Well Merry Christmas to all. An easy slam dunk 5 for the day. Perhaps the concept albums of all concept albums. Deep, diverse and creative throughout, a great listen. Iconic album artwork. A playthrough experience with so many stand out singles as well. The fact that “Strawberry Fields” and “Penny Lane” were part of these sessions but released early as singles only adds to the story and depth of this album. When you talk about the psychedelic era of the sixties, this album will always top the conversation. Excellent and worthy inclusion. So great.

One of my earliest Beatles listening thanks to my dad’s pressing from the 60s. Probably comes close to being the OG of concept albums. So much to like about its innovation from the technical, to the production to the songwriting. Simply great.

Hmm I think this is one of those bands I’ve heard of but never actually heard, maybe? Wow! Surprised more people don’t talk about this one

What can be said about this that’s not already been said? Most respect.

Obvi 5*. Comes out the gate so strong, kinda goes meh, then ends with a banger. 4.5/5

Never actually noticed how much bounce the intro tracks has! Again, what else needs to be said? Genius. Massive album, like the biggest album ever, like the first fucking ALBUM really. The production is just beyond. Boggles the mind. George Martin must always be mentioned. This album is one of those pieces of art that contains all the necessary information, delivered in complete form. Admittedly not my absolute favorite Beatles, but I do love and revere the shit out of it. The first half is all bangers. Second half is a bit more diffuse and scattered, but of course ends huge with "A Day in the Life," featuring the utterly satisfying sustained piano chord at the very end that rings out forever. Love "Fixing a Hole." "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" is wonderful. I was listening to this album today and "She's Leaving Home" actually made me tear up a lil'! And I can't actually front on "Lovely Rita." "A Day in the Life" is needless to say great, also very dark. Like how when Lennon's ominously sings "I'd love to turn you on," things start to get uneasy like reality is precipitously falling away. It's a beautiful, tragic, unsettling piece to end the biggest album ever on. Plus the weird-ass jarring tape-loop thing that comes in at the very end that I always forget about. It's like the biggest album. It's great. I love it.

It's like listening to an electric crazy quilt.

What can you say? It's a classic. It holds up. Every song is a banger.

Not a complete no skip, I’m looking at you within you without you, but changed a generation so has to be a 5

A great opportunity to relisten to a classic album. I think some may take for granted the impact of this album. Even if it might not be a "no-skip" album (I personally cannot stand Benefit of Mr. Kite), it can't be understated that this marked a turning point in music. The world's most popular band embracing the youth counterculture. Standout Tracks: She's Leaving Home, Lovely Rita, A Day In The Life.

This is blasting all the time when I discovered it at 14. Thank you to the Fishers Public Library for lending me the CD.

Todo el mundo en pie. Llegan Sus Santidades.

Ratings: 5: I will happily play this album anytime 4: I may occasionally play this album of my own free will 3: I will happily listen to this if someone plays it in the background 2: I will tolerate this if it is playing in the background 1: I will leave the room if someone plays this in the background Born after the Beatles broke up but definitely growing up in their shadow it's hard to escape the cultural impact of this one. Finally got into the Beatles in college and this was one of my favorites. In the present it isn't my one of my favorite by the Beatles but it is always an entertaining listen.

Wow. Just wow.

"I read the news today, oh boy" When I was a little kid and my parents let me pick out an album to listen to, it was always this one.

Pretty decent

Favourite Track: A Day in the Life

Come on.

10/10 album. I've listened to it a million times before.

A classic, and rightfully so

A high quality masterpiece

Very good! Lots of funky stuff

Truly goated album BILLLLLLYYYYY SHEARRRSSS

Incredible from start to finish.

George Martin is the 5th Beatle. I need to find this in mono.

Almost foolproof album but I don't like when i'm 64

Like great art, it gives you more the more you give it. A genius album from a genius band.

Already listened to this one. Strong 9/10. Second best Beatles album. They don't miss. 'A day in the life' is an excellent closer but all the songs here have charm. Superb album

Incredible album. Sometimes challenges me more than other Beatles albums with its abbrasiveness and gender blending. Fav tracks: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds, Getting Better, A Day in the Life. Saved a song: Y RYM: Y (#42)

Classic

Ah, enfin quelque chose d’excellent !

Tolles und kurzweiliges Album mit Welthits wie „Lucy in the Sky with diamonds“ & „Whith A Little Help from My Friends“ & „When I’m Sixry Four“. Die Zeit war Cool in Liverpool 😊.

Arguably one of the best albums ever.

Fire!!!

10/10 no notes

Perfect album.

Best of the Beatles albums, I think 🤔

Drugs.

Now we’re getting somewhere. I’ve obviously heard Sgt. Pepper’s many times, but I wouldn’t say this is an album I’ve heard more the 8-10 times. As I sit at my desk listening to at least the first several songs, it hit me, these songs don’t represent rock ‘n’ roll or psychedelic songs. They come across as songs that have been around since the beginning of time, that parents pass on to their child generation after generation. Timeless is an appropriate word, but also, they are harmless songs that can teach you something about how you might want to live your life. Like all the songs you sang with your parents as a very little child. Mary Had a Little Lamb is trash compared to Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds. I’d much rather hear Getting Better than Ba, Ba, Black Sheep. And these Beatles songs sound like those types of songs. Am I the only one that the Beatles, or at least Sgt. Pepper’s, hits this way? It’s like these songs have permeated the fabric of our lives. We know these songs without knowing them. I love the Rolling Stones, they’re probably my all-time favorite band, but the Beatles are on another level. Oh, wow, I just realized She’s Leaving Home is on this album. You might not know this song as well as the hits, but for my money, it’s a top 5 Beatles song. It captures the feelings of both a teenage girl and her parents. The girl longs to leave home and live on her own, but is still a little scared to be on her own. Her parents are angry at her for leaving after all they’ve done for her and they also fear what will happen to her. This one gets me, like get the Kleenexes. As for one critique, I hate the sitar, or at least how everyone picked up the sitar after the Beatles introduced it to rock ‘n’ roll. Now, when the Beatles use it, it’s not so annoying, but these other bands who started messing with it aren’t the Beatles. With that said, Within In Without You is brilliant. And, if the whole album isn’t brilliant enough, it ends with the masterpiece, A Day in the Life. I can’t imagine what people thought when they first heard that song. It’s still a goose bump inducer today. Not only is this an album you must hear before you die, all the Beatles' albums are must hear before you die. But start from the beginning and go to the end if you have never done so. You can really hear how these guys grew as songwriters, musicians, and human beings.

It's fab, of course, and it's all been said before, but even ignoring all that, the fact remains Sgt Pepper... is just an album sizzling with energy and enthusiasm. Is it the best album ever - is it even the best Beatles album? Probably not, but that energy and invention is endlessly irresistible almost 60 years later.

Buenisimo! Canciones q no tenia en el radar: - Fixing a Hole - She's Leaving Home - Within Without You

About time for some Beatles. Arguably the best album by arguably one of history’s best bands. Excellent listen.

I've been waiting for some Beatles and it didn't disappoint. A fun album top to bottom. Hats off Sgt!

Amazing groundbreaking album!

Fun happy upbeat

Another classic Beatles album. You can really get a sense of the art pop/prog rock sound being formed. But the best thing about the album is how eclectic it is; the sounds really move between a crazy variety of sounds, influences, and themes. This album also fully plays in the space of "themes that just were not explored in pop music at the time" (She's Leaving Home is a great example of this).

Always a great listen!

Have not listened to this album for many years . It still holds up. Their song arrangements still amazing. A Day In The Life sounds better every time it plays

Outstanding. So many memories listening to this as a kid. “Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite!” was the first song I ever deemed a favorite song. Love this album.

Probably my fourth or fifth favorite Beatles album yet still obviously a 5.

Easily my favorite Beatles album, they manage to not put any truly terrible songs on here.

I wish I could listen to Sgt. Pepper again for the first time. I wish I could listen to Sgt. Pepper for the first time in 1967.

Is it a masterpiece or did they boys just do a lot of drugs and goof around in the studio?

favorite song-fixing a hole best song-a day in the life hidden gem-she’s leaving home deep cut-being for the benefit of mr. kite!

And it’s not even their best album. But if you weren’t alive before this came out, there’s no way to fully comprehend the way this record shifted the trajectory of rock and roll.

Not my favorite from the fab four. But it's still masterpiece after masterpiece.

Can a record be overrated but still one of the greatest of all time? Some of these songs I’ve known for literally as long as I can remember. I sang “When I’m 64” in Kindergarten chorus. Other tracks such as “She’s Leaving Home” and “Good Morning Good Morning” (which anticipates Pink Floyd’s Piper by only a couple of months), I didn’t remember as well but are still bangers. Layers and layers to enjoy in this one.

a true classic

My favorite Beatles album since I was a kid! Such an iconic cover and story behind this album. A Day In The Life is still one of my fav songs from them.

It’s okay. 😏

A day in the life

Iconic album that was a great bridge between their early and later sounds. A Day in the Life is one of the greatest songs ever written.

Outstanding creativity with the music, majority of the songs are top tier, and the album tells a story throughout that is unlike any other. This is what The Beatles brought to the world in all of their music. The genius of all of them and what they contributed will live forever.

Absolutely fantastic. Eye and ear opening the first time I ever heard it. While I don't think it's my favorite Beatles album, it's such a great document of studio exploration and really figuring out what the band could do without getting too weird.

I don’t even know where to begin. What can you say about this album that hasn’t already been said over the last 50+ years? I guess for me it all started in 2020 when I went through my Sgt Peppers phase. My mom was a typical beatlemania girl you’d see screaming on tv in the 60s, so I heard this album plenty growing up but it never really resonated with me until I matured and started reevaluating my taste in music. Once I hit 30 and started actively listening to Sgt Peppers, I understood the fuss. I wanted to make sure I wasn’t just being influenced by mainstream pop culture hype or mob mentality, but if I can recite nearly every lyric to every song, it must’ve resonated with me. We know the hits and it starts out with four right in a row, but the deep tracks like She’s Leaving Home, Mr. Kite, Within You Without You, Lovely Rita are staples as well. And then there’s that final track that convinces you of the album’s genius if you weren’t sold before. Mind you I’m listening in 2020 and beyond, I can’t even imagine the impact this had in 1967. The thing about this album (and The Beatles in general) is that the first time you hear it, you’re surprised how many songs you’re already familiar with. Songs from ‘67 that are still relevant pop music today is quite the sentiment. My only complaints are couldn’t they have just included Strawberry Fields & Penny Lane; and this doesn’t hit me quite like their others (looking at you Revolver and Abbey Road).

It’s hard to mark anything on a classic record down. Still, there are parts of even this that I could do without. Yet, I don’t skip them or shut them off. This record is undeniable and certainly worthy of inclusion on the 1001 albums you must hear before you die.

It's the Beatles. Love the arrangements and experimentation with instruments. Not my most fave album, but love it. Listened before? Y Saved any tracks? Y Gfavorite tracks? All of them ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Loved it.

FINALLY! It took 104 days for me to get a Beatles album. The arrangements sound fantastic in my earbuds. Great storytelling with lots of whimsy. Absolutely love it! Listened before? Y Saved to library? Y Favorite track(s): With A Little Help From My Friends, Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds, She's Leaving Home, Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite!, A Day In The Life ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐: Loved it! Saved most or all of the tracks.

Do we even need to listen to rate?

If someone says they’re a Beatles fan then lists this as their favorite album… well… they’re more of a Beatles tourist than an a fan. Interesting concept, some interesting songs, but not heir best work. Still a less than great Beatles album is always a 5 in my books

6 out of 5

One of the best albums of all time. Listened to it a week ago, so not much surprise factor.

Loved the flow and quirkyness

The only Beatles album I ever paid for. I'm not a great fan of concept albums generally, but this one is 92% excellent (you get to guess which track I usually skip)

I mean…what is there more to say that hasnt already been said. Wow that first half is a classic...39 mins on the shorter side but just so classic.

It's as good as it's reputation. Maybe even better. At the time it was a staggering achievement. Now, it's a fucking brilliant album. The tracklisting is perfect, it sounds like summer and it has the best George Harrison song.

Pretty great. Can't say anything that hasn't already been said. 5/5

C’mon man

my favourite beatle is Gregor Samsa

My second Beatles album - it seems like I got their hippie albums first - my first Beatles album I got generated was Revolver back at album no. 6! This album is crazy good, it fits the definition of the saying 'all killer no filler.' The album is overall quite whimsical which seems to be the case for those first-wave psychedelic albums. I love how welcoming the title track is ("We hope you enjoy the show") and then it sends off with a great transition to one of the best songs ever made "With A Little Help From My Friends." "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" is probably the epitome of this album and the hippie-era in general, referencing drugs, sounding innocent, playful, etc. "Getting Better" references issues John Lennon had such as, being violent - especially towards women - even if he was far from perfect, it says a lot to face the issues head on. "Fixing A Hole" and "She's Leaving Home" sound like movie musicals, just really lovely. The song "Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite!" is extremely radical considering where the four guys were at just 2 years prior. hell, even compared to the songs that they made that came after this. "Within You Without You" has George continue with Indian-themed songs, I believe it being just about the halfway mark is great song placement, no sooner, no later. The next one is a song that Paul wrote when he was only 14! ("When I'm Sixty Four") That song is a good contender for my favourite song of all time, it's just THAT good, everything about it. "Lovely Rita" has one of my favourite piano and singing parts, I believe this song is so underrated I wish people would give this song a chance. "Good Morning Good Morning" the album could've really done without this song, I would only ever listen to it if I'm listening to Sgt Pepper, never outside of it. The reprise of the title track is a lot my explosive then the non-reprise version wish the first track had more oomph to it more than it already does. "A Day In The Life" starts with the crowd applause from the reprise of the title track, then it picks up steam with the piano leading the charge, the song has these cinematic-like orchestral section which is just so great. I also think Ringo's drumming is EXCEPTIONAL on this song, then it all accumulates into the final ringing chord. It the song and also the album ends with this hidden track-like section (before it was cool to do so.) Some music journalists and publications consider this the best rock album ever, which I thought was ludicrous when I listened to it for the first time, but that title the album holds is completely valid; even it isn't my personal favourite rock album.

Its great! I really like the last song in the album. Have already listened to most of it before and I still love it.

Is it the greatest album ever? No. Is it the best Beatles album? Also no. But is it still a conceptual masterpiece of vivid imagery and experimentation? YES! Best track hands down is A Day In The Life.

The Beatles are untouchable. I didn't want to stop listening to the album. It really is a great work of art. I don't have much else to say, except that my favorite track is probably the title track. Each track was a delight, though!

one of the easiest 5's i will ever give

YOU KNOW

Many more astute, qualified, and eloquent people have reviewed this album before me, and I think they've done a great job. Nothing I say here will add any value, with the possible exception of my very simple review: I listened twice in a row. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I want to give 6 stars

this is the beatles i would reach for

Love this album. Great variety throughout, and very inventive. I'm a sucker for the clarinet, so "When I'm 64" has got a lot of airtime.

Fav. 100/10

Just the best. Rocking the concept album idea and just full of bops and bangers and tearjerkers. I hadn't listened to this album in a while and I'm grateful that I got the nudge to relisten.

Classic great etc etc

It’s better on cassette but that’s hardly a complaint. This is your favourite album’s favourite album.

Lifechanging - Listened to it maybe 500 times

i dislike the beatles but even i have to admit this album fuckin rules and those british kids do this style of rock better than most of their contempories. 4.5/5 rounded up

What a crazy pull for my first album. Faves: With a Little Help From My Friends, She's Leaving Home, Within You Without You, A Day in the Life

14/10?

Of course.

Absolute banger.

It's not Wings but it is pretty much perfect.

A beautifully constructed album and a sweet, playful expression of one's mind opening up and (although I wasn't there) of the Boomer generations' experience of that as youngsters in that moment specifically. Complete with some of the awks that brings. Still, every time it gets towards a bit too trite the pace becomes playful and daft again. Every time it seems like it might be overly silly and absurd it dives deep into some sincere expression. Accomplished, silly, wide open expanses. Hope, yearning, learning and the circus. I'd like to tu-r-r-r-n y-ou-u-u-u o-o-o-n-n-nn....

This isn't my favorite Beatles' album, but it's not far off. It's not a bombastic album by any stretch, but it's one that changed the landscape of music in general for generations to come. Beautiful baroque pop rock with a range of influences from world music and psychedelia.

🫠🫠🫠

Um, it's The Beatles!

This was a really good album

Outstanding, at their best

Just great all around. No notes

Worth the 5 just for A Day in the Life (original opinion, do not steal).

This isn't my favorite Beatles project but as a project it's still one of the best pure psychedelic albums of all time, if not the best. Even when trying to make music that's weird or inaccessible or simplistic, they can't help but make perfect songs. This album is rich with some of the most warm and interesting psyche music ever, I can't imagine what it would be like to listen to this is 1967.

If I had to pick one album to divide music als an art form in a “before” and “after” it would be this one.

It's a perfect album. Melodies that are perfect, and not too much. A melancholic vibe in the background. 10/10

album is wank

This is probably a 4.9 for me, but we'll do a quick round up. An iconic and game changing album that has both really interesting and incredible songs .

There was a moment of dread when this thing came up and I knew I was going to owe Alex an apology. I guess I do like psychadelic rock - and this album is part of it. I don't think there's a single miss on this album and its historic influence on the sound for the decade afterwards.

4.9/5 Just amazing. faves: she's leaving home, getting better, a day in the life

They did this two years after making poppy songs like"You're Going To Lose That Girl." Absolutely remarkable progression in so short a span. What a ground breaking studio masterpiece this is. Underrated if anything.

I have too much to say. It's brilliant, obviously.

This one is an easy five and my personal favorite from the Beatles. Catchy and in no way lacking depth. By the time the second namesake of the album comes on there's a slight sadness like you know the band is about to leave the stage. Luckily, unlike a concert, you can just replay the album again.

I've really changed my mind on The Beatles throughout this project, especially after hearing a lot of music before and after they impacted the history of it. My project had most of their early albums in my first 200, and then abbey road at 250. I am at 950, and I just got White Album a few weeks back, and now Sgt. Peppers (here's hoping after I send this Revolver shows up.) Albums I know are on this list, I refuse to listen until they generate, even if it takes 700... This is one of the few albums that I truly can't wrap my head around how it sounds for it's time. It both sounds like the 60's, but also sounds ahead of anything of the year 1967 (besides VU & Nico debut) I thoroughly enjoyed this album. There's a juxtaposition with the rating on this album. I can see the case for rating this lower than expected based on not liking The Beatles, whether you think it holds up to their other albums, or even are just tired of the 60's sound in general due to Dimery's ever so bias towards 4-5 certain genres. However, there's also an inherit case to be made, that the pure gravitas of the album, and the culture shock it emitted, can only make it a 4 or 5 at the very minimum. One that gets harder to understand and empathize with the impact, the farther we get from the 1960's. Whether it's the outlook the west took after the album came out in the Summer of Love, the full-forced incorporation of eastern music, the artistic expression of album covers, sleeves, promotion, and easter eggs in song and design, the musical directions this would inspire, or of course, the stampeding statement trying to normalize, that this has been sparked by the use of LSD among others, you could argue that never has an album so sharply impacted the world, and it could only be a high rating. When you hear bands proudly declare that their grandiose album, that they poured everything into artistically, is their "Sgt. Pepper's", that's gotta count for something right?

It’s hard to write a review for this album. It’s an utter masterpiece. So many textures, so many new things to hear every time you listen, incredible songwriting.

While I don't think some of the earlier Beatles records are great, there's no denying that this is one of the best records we have. Every one of them are at their best here. I'll admit that some of my enjoyment of this album is that I've heard it a bajillion times and have heard so much analysis about it, but so what it's the fucking beatles. 5/5

Classic album, no complaints!

this album has consistently been one of my favorite albums ever produced by the Beatles. The sonic exploration that ranges from art pop to psychedelia to Indian Classical while using instrumentation ranging from guitars and drums to strings, fifes, sitars, and dilrubas make this album a wildly creative and unique exploration. It's just such a fun and playful album that also creates a sense of wonder and awe. Incredible album.

It's Sgt. Pepper's wtf else do I have to say?

Favourite songs: With A Little Help From My Friends, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, A Day In The Life

One of the best

Masterpiece!

what can I say about the first ever concept album that hasn’t been said a million times before? sgt. pepper’s not just whim and experimentation in a cartoonish package, it’s an ode to artistic freedom. I did, in fact, enjoy the show. whoever invented lsd, thank you for giving us this masterpiece.

A Day In The Life is actually so perfect

Can’t hit five stars fast enough.

Oh hell yeah. Love me some Lonely Hearts. Wont be much of a review here just gonna enjoy revisiting a classic.

Start to finish lp

I mean. What else can be said? It's great.

Not what I expected from the Beatles. The music is all over the place. And maybe that’s what great music is about. Perfect bars, notes combined with a lack of a set structure. All the songs seem go be imbued with instruments and vocals that saturate the listener and their attention to the brim. Not just expecting attention but almost demanding it. Never did I ever think that a Beatles’ album could be so musicallly, lyrically and structurally be so many things and yet be just confined to one song. Too good!! So happy that this was the first I ever heard.

My favourite

Still one of my favorites from the Beatles. No skips required. Just listen and enjoy

Classic

A contender for the greatest album ever made, and it wasn't even the Beatles' best album.

It took a decade but I finally love this album. I always struggled with its reputation as the greatest album of all time when it always sounded a bit novelty to me, as if the forward thinking production was the only reason people loved it. Once I got over that, I can see this as just a really fun, vibrant album. It’s not their best and I prefer them much rockier, but it was nice to finally get it.

I think every kid in the 90s who went through a Beatles phase in elementary/middle school additionally went through an even deeper Sgt. Pepper’s phase. I have listened to this album all the way through so many times and thought it was the most profound thing I’d ever heard when I was a kid. And you know what? It’s still one of the most profound things I’ve ever heard. I don’t love the George song on this one, and I’ve never loved “Good Morning Good Morning,” but “She’s Leaving Home” and “A Day In The Life” might be two of the best Beatles songs of all time. This might be the Beatles best album, or maybe it’s just nostalgia, but I’m still as obsessed with this album as I was when I went through my first Beatles phase.

Such lush and interesting instrumentation throughout. Paul's bass lines (and lead guitar on the title track and good morning good morning) off the charts. Ringo playing those tasty drums. A Day in the Life is that genius shit. Probably could have left its last few seconds (5:11 mark) on the cutting room floor. I do appreciate the lyrics: "I Never Gucci Any Other Way." 🤪

A blast of guitar that's instantly recognizable. "With a little Help" morphs into "Lucy in the Sky.". The plane ride to post colonial India with the first biggest Rock band in the World that resulted in "Within You Without You." Sgt Peppers is more than an album. It's a postcard from The Beatles to give future generations an insight into what the end of the road felt like for George, Paul, John, and Ringo.

Considered one of the best albums of all time... for good reason.

Day 54 Nearly 60 years old and still blows most modern music out of the water, truly groundbreaking. Not quite perfect for me as I always skip within you, without you, but it’s damn close 9/10 Highlights With a Little Help From My Friends Getting Better A Day in The Life

This is one of the few albums I know entirely.

Great album

The perfect record…I hear it still as I heard it the first time I listened.

After reading the Savage book, I finally understand how this evolved.

One of my favorite Beatles albums. 5/5

I’ve listened to this one many times through and will listen again. It’s a concept album that actually works. It has all the things the Beatles do (the ballads, the fun upbeat ones, the India-inspired, and the plain weird ones). The only song I dislike is Being for the Benefit of Mr. kite, but it can still get 5 stars

How could I not give it 5 stars? Great to listen to again no matter how many times that I’ve heard it.

I heard this album for the first time 9 years after it was issued. Prior to that I had only heard the songs that were featured on the “Blue” album that came out shortly after the band broke up. Anyway, the first time I listened to this album as a teenager, I was mesmerized and went out and bought a copy shortly thereafter. I have loved the album ever since and have listened to it countless times. Even the song, Within You, Without You, which I don’t particularly care for, somehow fits in to the whole listening experience…at least for me. And not to mention the historical significance and creativity. Definitely 5 stars.

The best to ever do it. On this listen, what stood out was benefit of mr. Kite, she's leaving home, and lovely rita. Also, the album cover is phenomenal.

One of the greatest albums of all time. ★★★★★

I'm biased, because I love the Beatles, but this record is a masterpiece that I love even more the older I get.

To me, "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" is the ultimate classic Beatles album. It starts with the incredible triad of the title track, "With a Little Help From my Friends" and "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" without losing much of the momentum afterwards. I guess this might be the most reviewed album of all times so I see no point in adding more.

Classic

It's "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"! Of course, it's going to be 5 stars.

Not my favorite, but their best.

Good one

5/5 Sgt peppers... 9.5/10 with a little help from my friend 8/10 Lucy in the sky... 9.5/10 getting better 8.5/10 fixing a hole she's leaving home 8.5/10 for the benefit of mr kite 9/10 within you without you 7/10 when im 64 8.5/10 Lovely Rita 8/10 again good morning 8.5/10 Sgt peppers reprise 8.5/10 a day in the life 9/10 1)Lucy in the sky full of diamonds 2)Sgt peppers 3)a day in the life 4)she's leaving home 5)being for the benefit of mr kite 6)getting better 7)she's leaving home

Game changer when released. Timeless.

Almost 10. Felt too goofy for a 10

my fav beatles one so far

Sometimes the classics are classics for a reason. Because it’s not just the songs, the lyrics or the vibes here. It’s also the production and care George Martin is throwing into every second and beat of every song. It’s the massive influence felt in certain notes and how they’re played. It’s a band stretching its talent to the absolute limit without devolving into chaos. It’s a perfect record.

Overall: 10/10 My tastes have changed a lot since I first heard this one, but it will always remain a classic in my eyes. If people want to call it overrated, that's fine...but I'll always disagree. It's not even my favourite album by The Beatles, but it's probably their masterpiece. How did a band that essentially started out as a boy band make so many incredible albums???? It's so inconceivable to me. The concept of the album is so unimportant to how good it is either. Music just didn't sound like this before this came out. I don't even fully know what to say, I just can't believe these guys existed. Fav Song: Getting Better

The best Beatles album which puts if I. The running for best album ever.

Listening to this a bunch lately has landed me at an unusual ranking of Beatles, which coincidentally is the reverse order they will have (actually) died in: Paul > Ringo > George > John I will not be taking questions at this time

Unquestioned classic. Such an impressive soundscape.

nice to have an obscure album , not sure if these felllas will ever make it big though . 5

I listened to it just to make show of what I already knew. I think Fixing A Hole is one of my favorite songs ever. Lol. Idk why and it’s probably not. 5 stahs

Not my fav Beatles album, but I was ground breaking.

classic stuff
