Reviews (page 12 of 12)
kinda felt like one long ass song tbh (album too long) but i appreciate the instruments. would def be fun to listen to while tripping.
ok Record, never been a big Who fan though
Just can’t get onboard with the Who anymore…. Sounds like nursery rhymes with constant drum rolls underneath.
Yikes! Well we had a five star yesterday... I suppose I couldn't ride that high forever. I've only heard Baba O'Reilly from this band before which I really loved! I think a part of me was hopeful this would be an enjoyable listen but the wiser part of me knew better. I've already had a live album from the 70s this week (two days ago in fact) and here we go again. That one was a two star and this one is worse... so yeah. There wasn't much further to fall, but Live At Leeds managed it. I don't love live albums unless I love the artist, and it can't be presumed you'll already love the artist with a project like this, as the point is being exposed to new music. All of this makes you think...why include a live album at all? The ones who love it will love it and the ones who don't are less likely to be converted - was there a point? I suppose if the LIVE part of the album is significant in some way - ie: they banter with the audience in a particularly endearing or relevant way, or perhaps if there is ONLY a live album to listen to and no studio recordings available but like... All we got from this live album is gross pedo stories about a girl guide , oh and racism too, 'a black raper' what the fuck??? Oh and apparently these two caricatures fornicate...wonderful. I'm liking The Who less and less by the moment. And I WANTED to like them going into this. This album achieved the exact opposite of it's goal. Don't include a live album of a band if their going to add a weird noncey song to their setlist half way through for... comedic value? Anyway, this did nothing for me, lyrically...sonically...emotionally...spiritually... The misogyny was as jarring as ever and I will happily never listen to this weird boring shite again.
Prima. Maar boeit me verder niet.
back to back The Who and it's a live album? that's it first album I'm skipping. Be grateful I listened to your other britslop
Good band but there’s too many Who albums on the list. Some interesting covers but the live album seemed unnecessary.
I'm not in the camp that live albums shouldn't be on the list, but this is a bad live album. The acoustics leave a lot to be desired, they're making lame jokes, and ultimately the music didn't really slap at all.
What a joke. All this did was remind me that The Who had one of the worst Super Bowl Half Time shows ever. The Who doing blues of any kind just sounds like parody.
Niet voor mij.
with singular exceptions - i don't like live albums 1/10 Will I add this album to my library: no
Ass
I really don’t like The Who. They’re a band whose whole is less than the sum of its parts. Around the time they rose to prominence you had the Beatles, the Kinks and the Stones, all far superior bands. I would have given it 2/5 for Keith Moon’s drumming but then there was the inevitable 70s paedophilia song so it lost a star.
they have enough albums in here, not going to bother with a live album.
Not for me sorry
no thank you
Anything good wiped out by its interminable nature
Never really have been a Who fan
I was never much of a The Who fan before any of the allegations. After listening to this album, it feels like there is definitely an interest in something not quite right.
i dont like the who
I don’t care about stuff like this
FUCK OFF OMG THIS IS THE THIRD FUCKING WHO ALBUM IVE GOTTEN IN 2 MONTHS. Get the FUCK out of here. This has truly sent me over the edge lmao this band is so fucking overrated. This was mid just like the rest of their music. Live versions of songs/albums should not be on here. He has a great voice if I absolutely have to be positive about it.
We just heard the original 'My Generation' on the last Who album, 'Tommy' has its own entry, and ALL live albums are shit; so, this should not be on this list. Period.
A live album that’s over an hour long. And to think this followed Tommy. Tragic.
Good
Omg i do really not like the who

Heaven And Hell - Live - Absolutely roaring guitars and aggressive drums, but I'm really not feeling the vocals. They seem almost tone-deaf and they're so off-beat, it's such a shame since the instrumental is so incredible but that's definitely something to celebrate. The Vocals pick up just after the half way point where they're more distant, this is the live version so I can respect the authenticity, especially the instrumental because I've never heard anything like it. I can't explain - Live - Again, immediately banging instruments. Much prefer the vocals here, I feel like the raw and gruff sensations in the vocals are capitalised on far better than the last. I prefer the previous instrumental as a whole but this song makes for far better listening and far more cohesive in my opinion. Hearing how British Working class they are at the end of this song gave me so much comfort. Fortune Teller - Live - A good song overall, I didn't find anything amazing about the song, there was a nice build and drop at one point but good not great. Tattoo - Live - The most personal sounding song so far, there seems to be a yearning tone in the singers voice, The lyrics I'm not a fan of at all, the story about his brother's tattoo, the way it was delivered, I found to be quite cringe inducing. The delivery didn't make it any better, the vocals were quite weak on this song Young Man Blues - Live - Amazing intro, The vocals a lot stronger on this song, much more soulful. The instruments are incredible, they sound amazing no matter the tempo, there wasn't a single point in this song when my head wasn't bopping. An incredible track. The backing vocals added so much personality too. My favourite track so far without a doubt. I feel as though this song's instrumental complexity superseded previous tracks. Although, a little voice in the back of head is suggesting the reason I enjoy this track more is because it's a cover not an original song from the band. The vocals towards the end of the song were the highlight. Substitute - Live - More of an indie feel, the chorus is super catchy and is overall a really fun song. Although the changing cadence throughout I was a bit skeptical of. Happy Jack - Live - Again, I hate to repeat myself but the instruments are nothing short of incredible but the vocals and lyrical content I feel as though are below average. I feel as though the singer's voice is absolutely incredible and unique when it comes to it's personality and the limits it can reach but technically, the singer seems to struggle to hold a note. Maybe due to my main listening genre being rnb and soul, I'm hyperfocusing and ruining songs for myself. I'm A Boy - Live - Instantly captivating intro with the guitars, this song makes highlights the seemingly mundane experiences of childhood are so valuable, the song brings me a sense of nostalgia, coming from a white working class background, I think the singer's accent played a large role in delivering that A Quick One, While He's Away - Live This song has so much personality to the point it comes across as eccentric and while I can appreciate trying to do something different, it just wasn't something I enjoyed. Although I did enjoy the journey this song took me as it was definitely a unique experience. My grandad used to say 'some people make music and some people make noise', while there are others who may disagree, I found this to be noise. Amazing Journey / Sparks - Live / Medley I decided to stop here, after listening to 47/77 minutes of this album, there were few moments I enjoyed, while I didn't find the album to be bad musically, I think this isn't suited to my taste. I've come to three possible conclusions, maybe I don't like mod-rock, maybe I don't like The Who or maybe the vocals on the studio version of these songs will be better.
Truly who cares
DNF
akk // dette forstår jeg ikke.
#251/1001. So far the two the Who albums I've reviewed have been positive surprises. I didn't really become a fan or know their music that much in order to respect the masterness of this piece. There are weird bits of silence and weird 12 minute mashups, which just makes me think this might have been interesting at thevtime and the place, but not as an album format. Fans only.
they can better
nah
Come back to this
tried to get into this, but sorry. this was a snoozefest. dont know what mental block i had listening to this but i dont think this deserves a spot on 1001 best albums. if anything, it demonstrates the blindspot that this lists has towards anglosphere musicians, granting them a spot on this list even if they are just okay. in actuality, very mediocre. no significant context, so i am left with: thats it? gun to my head top track: magic bus, because it was the end of the album.
I don’t like live albums
Live albums aren't really my cup of tea Didn't finish listening to it
Non
Definitely not my kind of music. The worst selection I've gotten so far.
I don't like live albums.
not listening to live albums
Ass
I actively disliked this album, I do approach each one with an open mind but found this long in the tooth and a bit tired. They sounded bored at times, their chat was shite and has aged poorly, and on top of all that one of them is a nonce. Redeeming moments; Keith Moon IS a good drummer and the production/recording of the rhythm section helps give the live energy a real boost, the kick sounds like it’s coming for your gut. The medleys towards the end were actually quite good, Amazing Journey/Sparks was good and My Generation is an undeniable track so at least they ended on a good note. 1/5 Best Song: Amazing Journey/Sparks Fuck Roger Daltry and Pete Townsend, and fuck their shite on stage banter.
0 songs added to my favorites. I would rather listen to another of their albums.
this album did not nerf to be this long or live sorry.
I felt like I should give this album AT LEAST 2 stars, because I like The Who. But this album did absolutely nothing for me.
I didn’t like it.

Oh god more Who.
Traust gubberock i middelmådig liveopptak.
-a lot of electric guitar -good song variety -too long of an album -fades into background
Shows The Who for what they are - an overrated rock band, mediocre at best. There's not a standout track on it.
Over rated.
It was boring
Oh cool, another shitty live recording of music that's probably actually not bad but unbearable to listen to like this.
I really don't understand why this album has a great reputation. Perhaps the best thing to be said about it is that it was once vital, urgent, energetic bands performing great songs in such an overblown, bloated fashion that created the platform that generated punk rock. Ironically, the best two tracks on the album are also the best examples of this. Two of the band's early hits - I Can't Explain and Substitute - are plodding and leaden compared to their original versions. As for some of the abysmal covers... this is not what rock n roll is meant to sound like. (Please, please, please listen to the version of Fortune Teller by Tony Jackson and the Vibrations if you want to hear the song done properly). As for the guitar wank on the My Generation Medley... that's 15 minutes of my life I'm never getting back! This album is what happens when a band lose their initial spark, but need to keep playing to pay for the more expensive drugs they're now into.
In 1963, while shooting 'A Hard Days Night', Ringo famously quipped that he was a 'Mocker' when asked to align himself with one of the subcultural tribes of the day. Had the Who been presented with the same question in 1965, there would have been no possibility of straddling the divide. Poster boys for the Mod movement of the early 60s, this proud working-mans style is typified by the cover of their debut album. 'My Generation' was the anthem for an era defined by polished Vespas, sharp Italian three-button suits, heavy parkas and 'faces' framed by carefully manicured haircuts. Merely five years later, unkempt shags falling over unbuttoned, baggy shirts, the Who took to the stage at Leeds University to capture their transformation into their former nemeses - rockers. Stretched over 80 minutes of over-indulgent posturing, this attempted statement of intent collapses in a mire of pointless solos and confused messaging. Hidden amongst the rock slop, earlier classics were treated with disdain, squashed into an unloved medley - blues and rock'n'roll covers were preferred to many fan favourites. Attempts to apply the themes of working-class British life from their previous era to this new 'heavy' sound jar significantly. Daltrey often seems to be operating at odds to the rest of the group, while his input - at worst - is borderline paedophilic. And what of 'My Generation'? Once so sharp and cutting - it's heavier moments controlled for maximum impact - at Leeds the track was dragged through a tortuous fifteen minute slog. The goalposts now having been moved: lyrics designed for a modern, upwardly mobile clique, when applied to the unwashed masses simply don't make sense anymore. Ringo sought to pacify - behaviour befitting a Beatle. The Who sell out - they did at least warn us. Mod lived on, transformed, adapted, shorn of their former poster boys. Who?
Nothing of any specific critique other than I think The Who are overrated and I don’t like them.
There really should be a zero option
I just don't like The Who, and I never have.
I can't stand The Who. Awful
Don’t like them
I like a lot of the who’s stuff but this many albums and a live one is kind of crazy when so many amazing artists are excluded. This didn’t stuck out to me and I didn’t save any if the songs
All who albums are getting a 1 star for noncing.
Weird band patter and I simply don’t like their songs
Not very good
They aren't good at being British or rocking, so what's the point. From guitar, singing, lyrics and even the onstage banter, nothing about this interesting or unique.
The Who's great but I'm super picky when it comes to live albums, and this one was super rough for me. I thought Roger Daltrey sounded painfully flat and off key and it made it impossible for me to get past the first two or three songs.
mierdon. era un live álbum
There should not be live albums on this list.
I do not like their music.
Not my vibes. I didn't enjoy this live recording.
Livealbum
No more live albums. Please.
I don't really love 60s rock, and the live aspect makes this completely skip-able for me.
I was bored by this. Didn't even get the hype of the crowd to contextualize the performance.
It feels so old, someone might say it's a classic but doesn't make it good. While listening the album I just couldn't stop thinking 'this sounds like I'm 70 yo' Hahahaha
at least if i ever get my hands on a time machine, knowledge of the time and place of this performance gives me the perfect opportunity to put a stop to the Who
Dnl I don’t like live albums
Not listening to another live album
I couldnt finish this. Did they think that they were above including their hits on this? They just released Tommy and didnt want to include pinball wizard or acid queen. Whats the point.
Classic band but don't need to hear them live.
Great riffs, base and drumming but not for me.
Boring
This one is surprisingly low compared to how I thought I was going to like it. It really just didn't hit as I thought it would and honeslty sounded much noisier and confusing than enjoyable. There was some cool theatrical parts, but overall not that great.
Live albums suck my anus 1 star
Le "Live at Leeds" des Who. Une solution chantée par un autre prophète, bien plus proche de mes angoisses : « Burn down the disco Hang the blessed DJ Because the music that they constantly play It says nothing to me about my life Hang the blessed DJ »
‘A quick one, while he’s away at work’ and the conversation beforehand was very grossly misogynistic and predatory both from the band and audience
Can't stand the Who
I was enjoying it right up to A Quick One While He's Away and then I set fire to my computer
The Who has never been something that has hit for me, even in their time it never made much sense to me why they were put on this pedestal, as a great and influential band, this live album showcases, in my opinion, the mediocrity of this band as a whole when you compare them to many other big bands from this time period. Favorite Song: Amazing Journey / Sparks
brilliant live album, what a sound from just the four of them. Best bass/drums combination in the business.
The who ?
I'll never care for these lads
Honestly? "Who's Next" isn't a 1-star album. That's just me being sassy. By the time you read this, I may have already emailed in and asked to change it to a "2". It's fine. A lot of the songs have been beaten to death via classic rock radio, but I don't go into a frothing-mad rage when I hear it or anything. This one? This one pissed me off. You take your best song, which, without looking, is under 3 minutes, and drag it out to 17 minutes? You painstakingly explain the plot to a song that even a child could understand? The Who continue to evade me. Some of the best rock n roll musicians ever (Keith Moon, John Entwistle) play in a band together, and for some reason, they just never, ever gel with me. Different strokes, I guess.
I really did not like this at all. Maybe if I liked the music from the band, I could appreciate this album more.
Stop with the Live albums. The only Live albums you should have are Throwing Copper and Mental Jewelry. This is my 2nd The Who album on this generator. I guess I just don't like The Who. I've always just tolerated them. But now after having to hear a bunch of songs in a row I find them to be the least exciting of the Brittish Invasion bands.
What a load of absolute codswallop. 1001 albums to name before you die.
I've never really been a fan of The Who and I wasn't quite sure why until now. The guitar riffs/solos, leading drums and driving bass are quite good however the lyrics and vocals are cringe. Young Man Blues, A Quick One, While He's Away are examples of this. This band would level up in my book had it had some other front man writing and singing. Halfway through this album I was ready for it to be over, I had to push through. My Generation was easily the best track largely due to the long instrumental breaks.
A live album has to be really, really good for me to rate it highly, so this 1 star is no reflection on the quality of songs, I'm just not a fan of an unexceptional live album.
I like The Who, but this was a subpar offering. It shouldn't be on this list.
70’s
I don’t like the Who, I just don't like them, I never liked them, they were never any good, they make music for people who don't like music, well except that hope I die before I get old, which isn't going to happen is it..
Klingt wie eine Schülerband, die seit einem halben Jahr Songs von The Who übt. Oh, was lese ich da in der Wikipedia: "the best live rock recording of all time." Mein Tipp wäre da eher Thin Lizzys Live & Dangerous.
I'm pretty over live albums being in this list.
We really didn’t need another who album on this list, much less a live one.
Learned I don't care for The Who. At all.
Eh. Not my thing. Especially the moments when the crass culture of the band and crowd came through. This might be the first album that not only I wasn't into but I couldn't really see why it was on the list.
Not a huge fan of British Invasion tbh
When will good music return from The War?
Another very long live album, why there's so many on this list I don't know. Don't like the Who, while this included some of their older songs which are more palatable the Tommy stuff and other 'experimental' tracks are really dull. They hardly ever play a minor chord, it's just straightforward 'rock'. Heard enough Who to last me a lifetime now, please no more.
Why the actual fuck is this on here. I've only listened to two songs and no hate on The Who, but it's getting a 1star to send a message to whoever decided this was an essential listen.
did not listen
I understand why this is loved but as many have said not sure why a live album is included here
Annoying voice
I like ‘My Generation’ and that’s it.
Sorry. It's good. I just don't like this type of rock.
No
No strong feelings either way. Undeniably good album, but not something I'd put on intentionally. I'd also rather watch a video/doc of live performance and not heard a live recorded album.
Subpar songs, but live! That makes it worse!
About what you'd expect from.a.who.album
1/5 No live albums pls
How does one expect a 4 hour listen on a daily album generator?
Bag of shit,
live album..
My Generation: 3/5 but just barely The rest of the album: 1/5 This is the worst version of My Generation I've heard.
I just don't love Live albums
Livealbum
Ugh, why are live albums on this list?
big nope
A big mess. Massively overrated, both the album and the artist. 2/10 would never recommend.
Me aburri. No lo termine de escuchar
Überraschenderweise gefällt mir das überhaupt nicht
The only thing bad about this album is that it's music created and performed by The Who.
Turns out I am not a fan of The Who. They have their couple good songs but most of these are boring, simple in a bad way, and being live just makes it worse.
1/5 Best: Summertime Blues Worst: I’m a Boy
Not a fan, nor do I like live albums.
I really don't get why The Who are so lauded. They seem more a bunch of people who all over-play, more than a band. With one or two exceptions (Can't Explain, mainly), the songs are pretty ordinary, too. Maybe you had to be there, but this just highlighted the showing-off, and masked any decent writing that may be there. And that is a TERRIBLE version of Fortune Teller, usually a great song.
I am not taking 1 hour and 20 minutes out of my day to listen to not only the who but a live album.
Really like the Who's music. But every live album is a compilation of another album, with maybe some covers and noise pulled it. Can I refuse to rate it?
I love The Who. I hate live albums. Few bands can pull off a good live album and I hold nothing against The Who for not being one of those bands. I do, however, hold it against the curator of this list. 1/5
SHIT!
Poor
Don't care for live albums.
I will be the first to admit I don't really like live albums but I like The Who so I'll give it a shot. First song just reminds me of why I don't really prefer listening to live music unless it's live. Muffled vocals and mix overall. Where are the drums bro? How can Keith Moon's drums sound quiet? dumb. Apparently this is the best live rock album ever recorded which just leads me to believe even more that I'll never like live albums.
Goddamn it live albums. Just no.
Absolute cauldron of shit. I thought this was meant to be some seminal live album, but the only redeeming feature is I wasn't standing in the audience having my tits bored off in real life.
Vägrar lyssna på 1 livealbum
J'aime The Who.
2/1/2022 Today's Album: "Live At Leeds" by The Who - Being someone who is not really into the Who to begin with, I don't think I am very into this album. If you like the Who, these are great live versions of some of their biggest hits. However, I just have never been able to get into their stuff and this is no exception. Great performances and cool jam sessions, but it's just not for me. Score: 3/10 Listenable Highlights: I Can't Explain
Why is a 2 hour long live album on the list…?
Atronadores! Mucho agudo 😂 Parecen divertidos y me recuerdan a The Beatles y a The Doors.
