Doesn’t get much better than Steely Dan, this album has some of their most popular songs. Technical execution and production are absolute perfection, and the songs are memorable, well-written and fun

It feels like they did to Queen what Greta Van Fleet did to Led Zeppelin. Very forgettable
I got about halfway through the 2003 album “Throwing Muses” before I discovered I should have been listening to the 1986 album “Throwing Muses”. I guess it’s easy to get them confused. The earlier version isn’t available on streaming, so I had to hack together the track listing on YouTube. I’m not sure why I should care about an artist that obviously doesn’t care to have their releases done properly on streaming services, or take the time to give their albums meaningful (or even different) titles. All that aside, the music was awful. No musicianship, could not connect with it at all. Worst album so far on this list (170 albums in).
Pretty boring music

Sounds like Daft Punk, but compositions are WAY more interesting. Production value is incredibly high, if there’s not a lot of live instrumentation, then it definitely has me fooled. Side one had hits, but I enjoyed side two more, very introspective and deep.
Good Blues album. Jim Morrison is self-admittedly not a musician, and it unfortunately shows in this album since it's all live. Nothing groundbreaking or interesting
Great songwriting, landmark album for Dylan and for rock in general. Not easy to listen to, harmonica is always too high in the mix. Not an album you can really enjoy listening to without knowing the backstory and context.

Landmark album. Amazing textures, ahead of its time. Very fun, deep listen
It's great, I mean it's B.B. King, legendary blues musician who inspired and continues to inspire generations of guitarists. This Live album isn't particularly moving for me, though I'm sure I would have been blown away if I were in attendance.
Hugely influential, one of the first cross-over artists and OG rock & roller. Obnoxious, weird kid just kept doing what he was doing and helped to found my favorite genre of music.
Really didn't like this album, didn't feel anything while I listened. Nothing new or interesting here, the best song was the Mrs. Robinson cover (not included on the original release), and even that did not provide anything new.
I loved this album and was pleasantly surprised. Some great sounds and texturing happening here.
This album has some gems outside of the singles that I was unaware of, overall some really cool sounds and textures in this album that I previously wrote off. I still can't get over the vocals, they just don't do it for me.
One of my favorite, recent, concept albums. Amazing sounds, fantastic songwriting, I see myself listening to this many more times.
Solid album, was not really aware of this one before. Great sampling and beats, definitely ahead of its time.
Some alright sounds, but a lot of the playing is really sloppy, which isn't my cup of tea.
Ok album, two stars normally but three with Black Hole Sun.
Two stars for the hits which can be fun, but this album really represents everything that I hate about the commercialization of music. Everything sounds so overproduced and phony.
Good album, strong guitar work. I'm not sure it adds anything new or interesting to the desert blues genre, but it's a good listen regardless.
Decent album, I like the sounds and textures, very cool rhythms. Woul dbe a three but the album is too long, should have been shortened by 15-20 minutes. You start out thinking this is a great, unique sound, but it gets very repetitive.
Great album, Beck almost never misses, and this is a great, early example when he could still come out of left field and shock you with something totally unexpected. Very introspective album, sad songs that anybody going through a difficult time in a relationship can identify with.
Solid production, great sounds but I couldn't really get excited about any of the songs.
One of the greatest albums of all time
A lot of this album is way too repetitive, I think 20 minutes could easily have been cut to make this a normal-length LP. Two stars for that reason alone, otherwise this music is well-produced, nostalgic, fun to listen to.
Really just could not get into this album, or the band for that matter.
Kanye West is a great example of why you shouldn't drop out of college. This album is ok, it has some great hits. I really don't like the whole idea of chipmunk pitching, it hurts my ears.
Really did not enjoy listening to this at all
Wasn't sure that I would like this, but found the tunes very catchy. Nothing too crazy going on musically, but still fun to listen to.
Great album, Led Zeppelin rules, love the guitar-forward riff-based music.
Really surprised by this, hadn't really listened to Television before. Amazing instrumentation all around, but the two interplaying guitars and bass guitar were really intricate and fun to listen to. I listened to their other two albums on streaming and enjoyed them as well. Solid band!
Did not like this at all, not for me. Wasn't impressed with the songwriting, instrumentation, vocals, or anything.
A true Masterpiece
Probably my favorite Metallica album, it certainly brought heavy metal to a wider audience, and did it with grace. It's not something I find myself listening to these days, but it the impact on Rock music is undeniable.
Really bad. Some white stripes is ok, but this album didn’t have a single song on it that I liked. Really not sure why it’s on this list
This album has some of the classic Smashing Pumpkins hits, but at the length, there’s just no glue holding it all together. I don’t care much for the band to begin with, but I do respect their career.
I love this album, it marks a special era in the 2000s. There are moments where the music doesn’t feel authentic, which I think was the band’s intention to a certain extent, but it takes away some of the magic for me.
Fantastic debut album. Lot's of energy, rocks very hard
This had some interesting guitar work, but really didn’t like any of the songs.
One of my favorite albums, and one of the best by Led Zeppelin
I really did not like this at all. Maybe if I liked the music from the band, I could appreciate this album more.
I don’t have anything bad to say about this album, it’s so good
I didn’t like this at all. I didn’t like the songs, and really did not like the vocals. No redeemable qualities for me.
Great album from a relatively obscure artist, I really enjoyed this
Great album, I always wrote this band off, but this one is solid. A little on the long side, which affects replayability in my opinion
Solid record, Iggy Pop is a gem, not a single bad song on here. Great old-fashioned rock & roll, almost sounds like a live record.
Great band, sound a lot like Talking Heads
All the classic Bob Marley tracks, ahead of its time, Bob is one of the GOATs
I was excited to listen, but disappointed in the end result. This album constantly sounds like you are on the edge of something amazing, but never really delivers. A lot of it is very flat and noisy.
Nothing groundbreaking. It's Limp Bizkit, 13-year-old-me loved this album.
I’ve always loved Hammond b3 organ, it was interesting to see who popularized it. Solid jazz album
Excellent album, super original and creative. Will be listening to this more.
Pretty boring. Actually starts getting somewhat interesting by the end
Has some cool beats, but some of the lyrical content was cheesy and felt inauthentic, maybe because it felt like London gangsta rap.
Fantastic album, great textures, very psychedelic
Perfection
Brilliant
Really amazing record and so well produced. It feels so big but only runs for 52 minutes. Seeps so much emotion, Adele has an incredible voice, the accompanying music works as a perfect compliment.
Can’t stand the vocals. Good musicianship otherwise, but not my style of rock music at all.
I got about halfway through the 2003 album “Throwing Muses” before I discovered I should have been listening to the 1986 album “Throwing Muses”. I guess it’s easy to get them confused. The earlier version isn’t available on streaming, so I had to hack together the track listing on YouTube. It's a good album. Alanis Morissette is a good writer from a compositional perspective, while lyrically, it can be hit or miss.
Not many times do I listen to an album and know within the first 5 seconds that I will love it.
Some good guitar parts. Really didn’t like any of the songs
Didn’t like anything about this.
Ella Fitzgerald is amazing, Gershwin is one of my top composers. This is not an album, it’s a songbook box set, I’m not listening to all of this.
Really thought I would like this, but was largely unimpressed. Songwriting didn’t hook me. I was expecting a bigger psych sound, but what I heard was pretty generic blues, something a guitar teacher would use to teach their students the blues.
Very difficult to listen to
I’m sure this was great for Slipknot or Metal fans when this came out, but it’s not for me. Maybe only one or two songs that I would listen to again. Good production, but I don’t think there’s any good songwriting happening.
Not a lot going on with this one
Not much to it, nice to listen to
Pretty boring, good musicianship
Solid musicianship, not really my style. Starts strong but I got tired of it quickly.
Not for me, wouldn't listen to this again
As close to perfect an album as you can get. Steely Dan rocks, all of the musicians that play on their albums are top notch.
Not much to say here, very introspective, beautiful album
Didn’t care much for this, nothing special, could have gone my life without hearing it for sure
Incredible musicianship, was not aware of this album or this artist before
It was fun, great vocalist and band leader, same vocalist who sings for King Louie in The Jungle Book.
One of my favorites, extremely well-produced, lot's of textures, introspective lyrics
I just can't get into The White Stripes, I've never heard a song that I would want to listen to again
Benny and the Jets is such a great song. Rest of the album is good, but not mind-blowing, must hear this before I die.
Didn’t like this at all. Songs are not memorable, musicianship was very average
First three songs are ok, rest of the album is just filler
Great live album, has more edge than San Quentin. I'm not sure why both albums are on this list.
I normally like Ice Cube, but this album has really poor production, hard listen.
Probably my favorite Beatles album. It is perfect. Great tunes, great length for an LP, the first foray of the Beatles into the rock album era and out of their pop era. Production is almost perfect
Very bad
Pretty bad. I hate that whenever Daft Punk comes up in casual conversation, someone always needs to bring up Homework, as if it’s like an obscure, early work of Daft Punk that is really amazing. Yeah I’ve heard Homework, and Around the World is 7 minutes long, asshole.
The best part of this “album” is that it’s only 22 minutes long (hardly a full length LP). Nothing interesting happening here, can barely understand the lyrics. It sucks
One start for Seven Nation Army.
Hard to have an opinion on something with absolutely zero substance
I listen to a fair amount of experimental, noisy music. This is not music
Not my cup of tea, but I think they’re a good band and can see why they are popular in their niche.
Couldn’t wait for this to end
I, like many others, generated this album the day after Brian Wilson’s passing. I’ve heard it before, and am biased as a huge Brian Wilson fan. This is a fun album, contains the classic Beach Boys harmonies, but some different sounding arrangements that make this a fun listen.
Thank god that’s over. A very difficult listen. Not a fan of the genre, but the music was just not interesting at all
I I’m sure this album is seminal if I were a jazz / latin percussionist, but I’m not, so it didn’t really move me.
Not for me, not listenable
Doesn’t get much better than Steely Dan, this album has some of their most popular songs. Technical execution and production are absolute perfection, and the songs are memorable, well-written and fun
Didn’t particularly like it at first, but started to come around. I will listen to it again for sure. Maintains a consistent vibe throughout the album.
Early daft punk
Really good album, it has the sound that to me a lot of the 2010s rock music (poorly) emulated. My favorite U2 album
I feel like I should have liked this album in theory. Some of the sounds were cool, it none of the songs really grabbed me
Has some strong moments. Good production. Gets repetitive in the second half. Most songs also have kind of a pointless, really long outro, seems like filler. Would listen to it again.
Really cool album. I love Janis Joplin. I didn’t really like the faux “live“ sound of the album, and I thought there were some awesome rock and roll moments that get washed out by the end of the song
This did not have any redeeming qualities. Except maybe the album art matched the music perfectly
Couldn’t even finish this, just didn’t care for it at all
Second half of the album is solid. I love the harmonies in End of the World.
Pretty ok album, not amazing production, but fun to see the genesis of Foo Fighters
Not too bad, liked some of the songs, good production, REALLY did not like the singing
Great songs, good production, great textures and guitar work,
I liked this more than I thought I would. Sounds like Bob Dylan in some parts, and has a early San Francisco psych sound in others.
Incredible album from an artist I’ve never listened to. Super weird, strong production, great sounds.
Awful production. Second track has some bass rattling that almost sounds intentional. Lots of background “tones” that sound bad. Nothing stuck here. A few good moments.
I. A see how other people like this, but not for me personally. Has pretty good production, ok musicianship
Fuck yeah
It was bad
Solid album. Mic just sounded a little muddy at times, and it was too long, and droning at times
Pretty noisy. Had some good moments, but lacked cohesion over all
Pretty ok, has some strong moments, and a few moments where I needed to turn the volume down. Would listen to it again
Really did not like this. Too long and droning, only listened to the first disc. Very uninspiring
1,001 post-punk albums to hear before you die
Hard to find anything wrong with this album. One of my favorites
Some good parts, don’t understand why it’s on the list
A masterpiece, not much more to say
Super solid, I really liked this
This was such a big album in the 00s, you couldn’t turn on MTV without seeing a RHCP music video. Some of the songs on this album are good, but the production is horrendous, and way too noisy. RHCP was a band that never needed to participate in the loudness wars, I wish they would have made a stood out and made a statement, but the band just frankly isn’t that great.
Talented producer. This album is long and has some pimples. Pretty decent
My all-time favorite Beatles album
Very very bad
Some ok moments, but didn't really feel this
Some good moments, very solid production.
Not my style at all, but The Cure is a solid band and the production on this album is really good
This did not land for me at all, and I don't really mind Metallica's music. I think it was added to the list because "Ohhhh metal band plays with a symphony orchestra, this is so groundbreaking". Vocals sound bad, Lars sounds forever bad, and I'm sure there was a lot of correction applied, still sounds bad.
This is Kanye West's best album, a masterpiece in my opinion. I love how unpredictable it is, very experimental, it keeps you on your toes and you really don't know what's going to come next. Some of the lyrics are hilarious, while others deal with serious issues. It feels like Ye didn't take himself too seriously with this album, but still created an incredible work of art at the apex of his career. I can't listen to Kanye anymore, it's a shame he went off the deep end and doesn't make records like Yeezus anymore.
It’s hard to write a review for this album. It’s an utter masterpiece. So many textures, so many new things to hear every time you listen, incredible songwriting.
Great sounds, introspective lyrics, this is good music, but it’s no my cup of tea.
Pretty solid album, great sounds and textures. Vocals sound a too much like Thom Yorke.
Great a cappella vocals
Hated this, sounded like nails on a chalkboard
Started out hating it, then came around. Will give it another listen, some really good sounds in there
Always an absolutely unhinged listen.
Some the these rhymes are pretty whack, but loved the vibe and the beats
Annoying for this to be on the list, it’s not really an album. Some of the songs have SOLID production and songwriting, but then the next four tracks are an affront to the senses. Would have loved an album of like the ten best songs.
It feels like they did to Queen what Greta Van Fleet did to Led Zeppelin. Very forgettable
Quite bad
A little boring, but decent music overall
Speakerboxxx / The Love Below is OutKast at their most polished, most technically accomplished and, paradoxically, least inspired. It’s an album that succeeds on craft while quietly revealing the unraveling of the partnership that made OutKast essential in the first place. Earlier OutKast records thrived on tension. André 3000’s curiosity, abstraction, and vulnerability were counterbalanced by Big Boi’s discipline, grounding, and rhythmic precision. Their voices didn’t just coexist, they edited, challenged, and sharpened each other. That dynamic is almost entirely absent here. Instead, the album feels less like a dialogue and more like two parallel monologues bound together by contract and branding. The double-album format makes this separation explicit. Speakerboxxx is confident, professional, and impeccably executed. Big Boi doing exactly what he does best. The Love Below is raw, exploratory, and emotionally exposed, capturing André in a state of searching and creative restlessness. Both halves are competent, occasionally compelling, but rarely transcendent. What’s missing is the shared sense of purpose that once made OutKast feel like they were building something larger than themselves. There’s an undeniable sadness to the record. Not because it’s bad, it isn’t, but because it sounds like closure rather than discovery. The album feels like a compromise: a way to fulfill expectations without forcing a collaboration that no longer existed. The singles are separated, the visions are divergent, and the connective tissue that once defined OutKast has quietly dissolved. In that sense, Speakerboxxx / The Love Below functions less as a grand finale and more as a sad bookend. It documents the moment when OutKast stopped being a unified creative force and became two gifted artists moving in different directions. Impressive, interesting, and historically significant, but as a whole, it lacks the urgency, cohesion, and magic that made their earlier work timeless. If Stankonia was the last true OutKast album, this is the paperwork that followed.
It rocks, but not really in a way that is memorable or would make me want to listen again.
Huge fan of the album. Only critique is the heavy use of drum machines, it makes the tracks sound overly synthetic and sometimes steal the show. Maybe it’s just a product of when it was made. Otherwise, love it
Solid album. Definitely from a bygone era of indie music
Not a particularly enjoyable listen
A very low 4 star. Lots of “rubbish” on this album, which is probably more the fault of execs than anything. A lot of people don’t like Albarn, but love him or hate him, he has a great ear and great taste.
Very, very low three star. I think of this as less an album and more a vessel for the singles by GnR that everyone knows. A few extra points for breaking into the mainstreams and creating timeless classics.
The album isn’t great, but it has some hits and MIA’s most well-known material. I respect her as a producer, and she’s brought some great sounds to the mainstream. Some of the songs here, much like some of her political beliefs and opinions, are just straight up annoying.
Perfection
It’s a good album, I loved it growing up, but don’t see why it’s on the list.
Only reason to hear this before you die is to know just how bad albums can really be
Not a strong start, but I ended up liking this much more than I expected. Classic 90s alt style.
One of the best albums I’ve discovered on this list.
absolute garbage
Unlistenable
Absolutely dreadful. I already can’t take British hip hop seriously. These beats were whack, all over the place. The “rapping” was a joke.
This is basically exactly how live Rock & Roll is supposed to sound, to me. So much energy, heavy, you can just feel that the band and the crowd is having an awesome time. Really doesn’t get much better than this.
Perfection
Ambitious record, but a tough listen for me. Obviously a great talent in harp and songwriting and composition. Her voice made the whole thing just too hard to listen to. I respect the effort and how unique this sound is, but it doesn’t work for me.
Really didn’t like what was happening with the production here, made me uneasy and feel like I had to keep turning it down
One hit wonder
I really appreciate the musicianship and freshness of this album, I knew it was a 5 before I finished it, though I do think it could have been a single album.
Really solid album, I enjoyed it. Only gripe is it shouldn’t have been a double
Really solid musicianship, so much soul, loved this one.
Not my favorite style of Zappa, too in-your-face, obnoxious, not enough focus on musicianship or composition.
Better than all of the English hip hop I’ve heard from this list.
Didn’t care much for this. Sounded to me like he was trying too hard to be Leonard Cohen. Very off-putting, didn’t sound authentic
I realize this is a monumental hip hop album. I’m a huge fan of Ice Cube’s style, Dre is one of my favorite producers, Eazy E was a TERRIBLE rapper. First three tracks are straight fire, but you just kind of lose interest after that
Pretty boring music
Boring as hell
Horrible
Solid, solid grooving and musicianship. Foundational to other music
Decent album, but doesn’t belong on the list
Free me from this prison
Terrible. All the songs are just concepts that weren’t fleshed out.
There’s some great music here, but the jug just sits too forward in the mix for my liking, it’s distracting.
