Reviews (page 4 of 13)

i used to think that bands like iron maiden (read: old edgy rock bands) made music that was all screamo-y and un-musical. but after listening to this i've realized that the music they make is like... beautiful. the guitar riffs are so clean (idk if it's because i'm listening to the remaster) and every aspect of the song feels like it was placed perfectly. it's a bit different from the 'earwormy' music that i'm used to post 2000's post tiktok so idk if a specific song called out to me but this is definitely something i would listen to again. 4.5/5

Unbelievable quality, The Prisoner/22 Acacia Avenue/Number of the Beast/Run to the Hills is as good a four-song run as any album has ever had.

This is mega. Bit of a steady start, had me worried that I was going to have to give a bad rating to another of Hector's favourites, but it really takes off by track three. I'm not a real metal fan, but I don't think this is real metal - it's far too tuneful and you can actually hear the words. It's pretty well-written lyrically, but the thing that elevates it is that you can't listen to this without tapping your feet or nodding your head, it's that catchy (again, not something I'd say about most metal albums). I'm sure they wouldn't take this as a compliment, but it's like listening to a good Bon Jovi album, with 25% more bite to the lyrics and 50% more bite to the music. And that guitar at the beginning of Run to the Hills is just magic. 5/5.

Classic but not my favorite maiden. Last album with Clive Burr who has a much different sound than Nico. Live recordings from this period showcase that.

The best if you like metal this is a must listen!

Spoiler: It's 666

My wife loves it

Great almbum

Have loved this album for years. The only songs that have never really got with me were Gangland and Total Eclipse. I could listen to this on repeat for hours and hearing this again sent me into another spin through their discography.

I've listened to this album a few times before. It's a near perfect heavy metal album. No bad songs. My tiny complaint is that they use the lyric "some crazy dream" twice (in title track and Hallowed By Thy Name). Wouldn't mind seeing more Maiden in this list. Favorite track: Probably still Run to the Hills.

I mean, come on! Not my favorite album of theirs but it's undeniable

Got not much to say here. It's Iron Maiden and i like Iron Maiden, so it's an easy 5 star for me personally. Very memorable guitar riffs. Personal favorites are The Number of the Beast, Run to the Hills and Hallowed Be Thy Name.

This is another favorite!

One of the best rock albums ever. Barreling along threw sensational songs it’s pure excitement all the way. A tour de force of an album. Top drawer.

If you were around in 1982 and old enough to know what music you were hearing (in other words, an old person), it was impossible to ignore Run To The Hills. This album, along with Judas Priest's 1980 album British Steel, took heavy metal into the mainstream, much to the delight of college and high school chuckleheads. The Number of the Beast is emblematic of the shift in heavy metal from amped up arena rock to what would become Hair Bands. Loud, rude, and full of imagery that your mother would hate. A true classic.

Un clásico de este genero, recomendado

Love it

Stone cold classic. 10/10

Excellent artcover, and music also. A moment when Dickinson era set it's domination Fav Track: Hallowed Be Thy Name

Somehow I have not listened to this before! There isn't a weak song here at all. Immediately added this album to my discogs wantlist.

Fuck yeah Iron Maiden

This is an album that really earns the face-melting moniker. The instrumentation is always stellar. Don’t think that the lyrics aren’t as good, though, because they’re also great. A classic overall.

This is metal baby. Favorite track: Run to the Hills

Bruce brings the power!

Fantastic metal album, one of the best. Possibly Iron Maiden’s best work. Lyrics and instrumentation are phenomenal. Also the new singer is doing wonderful, way better than the first guy, although I didn’t hate him either. Incredibly enjoyable, wasn’t my first listen and it won’t be my last. 5/5

A legendary album in the history of metal, and a benchmark for a new era. Arguably Maiden's best album and it has one of my top 5 songs on it being its closer "Hallowed Be Thy Name." I am heavily biased for this opinion, but it maintains as a 5/5 album that anyone who listens to metal should listen to.

This reminded me of my older brother and childhood and playing tony hawk pro skater 😊

Bunch of awful albums in a row to lead up to this gem. This was one I knew from high school, but it was nice to revisit it. First listen I thought children of the damned and the prisoner were OK songs, kind of a break from great songs. But as I kept listening, I realized how wrong I was. This is a great album from start to finish.

First album with Dickinson on vocals and he really fit the part well. Grew up with this album and haven’t listened in quite a while, but I’m glad I did because it still rules. It’s definitely got a more “epic” sound/feel than their previous two, but I’m guessing it’s due to the new vocal style. One thing I always liked is that even though the guitars are riffing prominently, they still manage to get the bass to the front and the parts really complete the song in my opinion.

Iron Maiden was my gateway drug into metal. They are an incredibly talented band that has written some of the most influential music in heavy metal. The Number of the Beast is one of their greatest albums. They don't hold anything back and jump right into it on Invaders - introducing the listener to tasty riffs, sick bass, and lightning fast drums. Bruce Dickenson's commands the microphone with authority. Even when they slow it down (Children of the Damned) it's excellent. Halfway through we get to the title track which is fantastic. Other highlights include 22 Acacia Avenue and Run To The Hills, but there isn't a bad song on this album - it's a quick 40 mins of classic metal but when it's over it makes me want to jump to the next album in their discography.

“Invaders….RAPING!” This album is perfect for creating an inspirational montage of you doing physio stretches, so you feel more badass than you actually are. All hail Bruce Dickinson, hallowed by thy name. The guy is so over the top and I don’t mind it at all. His pipes are incredibly recognizable as he puts the “iron” in Iron Maiden. They know what they’re about and they ride that all the way..hard. Some of the last few albums on this site really made me a prisoner, trapped in their weird ways. But I found this record pretty freeing to tap my feet and head bang a little while banging out emails. This bad boy Invaded my brain all day long. Although maybe the most well known, Number is my favourite. It’s undeniable. Special shout-out to wild journey that is 22 Acacia Ave. I don’t really aspire to go to brothels, but I’d try anything Bruce tells me to.

Not the biggest metal fan but this one is top notch. Was going to list my favourite songs from the album but I couldn't choose because they're all great. Amazing album to work to (always a bonus). 5 stars, will come back to this.

Bruce Dickinson-era Iron Maiden is a load bearing pillar of my early adolescence. "Number of the Beast" is probably 4th or 5th ranked in my personal system, but giving it some listens now it's still solid as feck, and let's face it, Iron Maiden don't evolve a whole load sonically album to album, so it totally makes sense I'd dig it pretty much equally to the albums I consider faves... So, I was expecting to give this a 5 to make up for "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son", "Fear of the Dark", and "Powerslave" not being on the list, but actually I'm happy to give it a 5 on its own merits! Fave track - "Run To The Hills" springs immediately to mind - karaoke classic, that one! "Children of the Damned", "The Number of the Beast", and "Hallowed Be Thy Name" are all quintessential Dickinson-era Maiden bangers!

Hell yes, another Iron Maiden album to review today! This is the second album by them that I've gotten on this generator. This is definately not my first time hearing this album, and it won't be the last!! This is the first Maiden album to feature Bruce Dickinson on vocals, and marks the shift from what Maiden was to what they become, which is an unstoppable heavy metal global phenomenon!! That fucking wail at the start of The Number of the Beast is amazing!! Our first real glimpse at the power of Bruce's voice!! I also have very strong memories of jamming out to this song while playing Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 on PS2. Clive Burr's drum intro on Gangland is awesome! This would be Clive's last album with the band. He would be replaced by Nicko McBrain, who is a fucking phenomenal force behind a drum set!! Hallowed Be Thy Name is my all time favourite Iron Maiden song! The story Bruce expertly spins through his powerful lyrics almost makes you feel like it is you on death row thinking about life, and your own mortality! The powerful harmonizing guitar solos by Dave Murray and Adrian Smith are fucking epic, and bring me chills!! All of this held together by Steve Harris' expert bass playing!! Perfection in song form!! Overall, an amazing album!! Easy 5 stars, no question!!! Favourite songs: Hallowed Be Thy Name, Run to the Hills, The Number of the Beast, 22 Acacia Avenue, Children of the Damned, Gangland Least favourite song: The Prisoner 5/5

Legendary and relentless

Was unaware they did a song based on the Prisoner series. Knew most of these songs before and saw them live before. Better production than I'd expect for early 80's. Maybe the remaster cut some of that 80s verb off the drums? Children of the Damned is another stand out.

Really great metal album that stands the test of time. A little formulaic at times, but there's nothing wrong with that if it works.

This is the one band that stands out to the usual music I enjoy, I love this because it's nostalgic to me as I was raised listening to this as it's my mums favourite band. I love Iron Maiden so I will be biased in my rating

that shit went crazy mode

They're so dumb and Bruce is so over the top that I shouldn't give it 5 stars, but listen to the drums and bass running along while the guitars do their thing. Love it.

I’ve loved Run to the Hills since I was a teenager. For that alone the album deserves a 5.

Just a brilliant listen.

Iconic heavy metal album, my absolute favourite Iron Maiden song is the smashing closer of the album. This also is still a relevant album. I love it. Also, I always thought that X Factor and Virtual XI were quite a change for Iron Maiden, but you can clearly hear that sound even on this.

That's very surprising for me, but I've love this. Maybe it's because when I bike I'm happy and everything is beautiful, but that's some awesome biking material. Brilliant

Fantastic album, a classic Good structure, starts with a blast, some mellow tracks in the middle and ends on the haunting Hallowed... 40 years on and still one of the best

The % of banging tracks on this British metal masterpiece is extreme. Even the worst track on the album is still a catchy, engaging metal track. So close to a 5 that it's gonna be a 5. Probably like a 4.8 or such if i had fractions to work with.

It's my favorite metal album from my favorite metal band, this was the album that made me switch to metal!

The album that started my initial obsession with metal music, The Number of The Beast is an absolute beast (get it?) of an album. Dickinson delivers one of the greatest vocal performances of the genre, and the songwriting from Harris is explosive and tight. Of course, American conservatives were highly offended by the album and deemed the band Satanists. But what these puritans actually should have been scared of, is the relentless attack on their world perception happening on the album - protagonists breaking free of conformity and violent descriptions of the imperialistic roots of USA. This is a band with something on their mind. Of course, you cannot write about this album without mentioning Side Two: 'The Number of the Beast', 'Run To The Hills' (Burr's drumming is one for the ages) and 'Hallowed Be Thy Name'. Absolute insanity to have these three tracks on the same side of a record.

An absolute masterclass in heavy metal. The power that Bruce Dickinson brought to the band on this, his first album, can not be understated. Harris is to no surprise an absolute beast and Burr does an outstanding job on his last record with the band. Side A is great, but it’s side B that really steals the show. “The Number of the Beast”, “Run to the Hills” and “Hallowed Be Thy Name” is one of the greatest collection of metal tracks on such short space ever. It’s a shame that they ended up including “Gangland” instead of the FAR superior “Total Eclipse”. Still, The Number of the Beast is an insane record. And it’s not even Iron Maiden’s best. It might not even be their second best!

So much better than their debut. All the tracks are smash-hits. This is 80s heavy metal at its finest, and it's rare for me to find a metal album where every track is likable and unique. Only 8 of them, but they all stand out without dragging on or feeling rushed... Ok maybe not Gangland except for that sick guitar part, but it's surrounded by the hits so I don't even notice it other than a nice break. They're loud, dramatic, and energetic with catchy moments to pull in new audiences. Great lyrics, album cover and song titles, and instrumental pieces.

Best Song: Hallowed Be Thy Name. Sprawling, epic, with beautiful vocals and a riff that is arguably more memorable than anything else on the album. Worst Song: The Number of the Beast. Not a bad song overall, but I've always found the theme a bit too cheesy and on-the-nose. Overall: I love Iron Maiden. They were one of my first favourite bands, and unlike many other bands I once liked, I've never stopped loving them. The combination of Bruce Dickinson's soaring vocals and what must be one of the best rhythm sections in metal, you get this band that feels both epic/ethereal and blisteringly paced. Iron Maiden at their best makes me want to sing and cry and run and fight all at once. Their songs, especially lengthier epics like Hallowed Be Thy Name, also somehow manage to have a "live" quality to them, even in studio recording. As good as this era of metal ever got.

5/5, period. And I am not even a big traditional heavy metal fan.

very good

Shredded hard, was expecting to hate this but really enjoyed it

It's not musically perfect, the lyrics are terrible and it's not for everyone but it's still an amazing album. The energy, performances and general song writing more than make up for any blemishes. For me it's the pinnacle of old school, melodic heavy metal. Great solos, epic riffs screams and howls and Hammer horror imagery.

Not much to say. One of my favorite artists.

Just Wow!!

Yes, Maiden!!! Great album one of my favorites

Yeah this is just stellar really, one of the best metal albums of all time

Once upon a time, I was a guitarist in a band that covered Fear Of The Dark by Iron Maiden. That’s not on this album, but I thought it was a fun little fact. Songs I already knew: The Number Of The Beast, Run To The Hills Favourites after listening: The Number Of The Beast, The Prisoner Despite my history as a guitarist, I hadn’t actually listened to any Maiden albums from front to back. First of all, that album art needs a mention because of how iconic it is. There is no mistaking who the band might be when you see big Eddie there. The music is fantastic throughout - although it can sometimes fall into the realm of all songs sounding the same, it doesn’t outstay it’s welcome like it might have done if there were a few more songs. The harmonising guitars are bliss in each song, and holy guacamole Bruce Dickinson was blessed by some divine being to get that voice. A definite recommend from me.

T3B 1. Hallowed Be Thy Name 2. Children of the Damned 3. Gangland Every song on this album…BANGER!! Great vocals paired with complex metal range. Amazing metal. Solid 5!

This album is quintessential metal. Number of the beast will get you through a brick wall

Up the Irons. This was a pleasant surprise - I like maiden. This has got 3 of maidens biggest hits on - Run to the Hills, Number of the Beast and Hallowed be Thy Name - so I see why this album is highly rated. However - they couldn't quite pull out the PERFECT album - there's a couple of songs on here that I didn't really enjoy. But still, it's a brilliant album with some brilliant songs.

Iron Maiden is always good

Hell yes! I don't think I'd ever really listened to a full Iron Maiden album before, they have always just been on metal mixes, but that changes today! This was fucking epic and I loved it. Hallowed Be Thy Name!!!

What a badass classic this is. This must have been so exciting to hear this right when it came out. This was, and this is, the pinnacle of NWOBHM, I think. It's not even my favorite album by them, but I recognize it as one of the most important pieces in heavy metal's history

Heavy metal masterpiece. It probably was my entry into metal music and it'll always be special for me.

Not a fan of the band, but I gotta admit that they did solid heavy metal. I also need to be objetive and gave this album a 5 stars

Ok. This album has a few moments that haven't aged well, it's not my favorite of the band, but I would feel dishonest to give it anything other than 5 stars. So much heavy/catchy/fast/efficient moments on this. A recipe mastered by Iron Maiden. It was Bruce Dickinson's initiation into the band. Imagine the reaction of people the first time they heard this powerful and distinct voice. It must have been insanely overwhelming. A unique voice and strong riffs and songs to support and honor it. Also, from a personal point of view, I have lots of good memories of my adolescence linked to this album. Meeting metalhead friends, enjoying the music, learning to play it... Playing to Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4! Anyway, a great and outstanding album for sure.

One of the greatest albums of all time from my ultimate favourite band. But I know this album better than myself. I'm here to find new stuff. Still, having the first album from Maiden is great. Up the Irons

Gladly suprised

Nostalgia

Amazing album. Top heavy metal. “Run to the Hills” is amazing.

The first Iron Maiden album to feature Bruce Dickinson on lead vocals, this is one of Maiden's best ever. It contains The Number of the Beast, Run to the Hills and Hallowed Be Thy Name, all on one album, and the rest of of the tracks are great as well. I especially like Children of the Damned, a really beautiful song that is sadly often overlooked, because it is overshadowed by the aforementioned tracks. The production by Martin Birch is punchy without being overbearing; the songs are heavy but with enough melody and variation to never become boring. And Dickinson is without a doubt one of the best metal singers ever. All of this comes together to form a real classic Heavy Metal album. 5/5

Maiden's first truly great album. They had a run in the 1980s that's pretty hard to beat. Also the first album of theirs I bought, first songs I learned on guitar, etc etc. An easy 5/5.

This is fucking amazing.

Om jag kunde skulle detta album få 666

Its their classic

The definitive NWOBHM, in my opinion. If you listen to any album from this era, make it this one.

This is the best Maiden so far I've heard. Iconic tracks, tight tracklist, and a very strong personality as an album overall.

Classic Metal!!

Aside from Invaders and Gangland (which are alright), every song on Number of The Beast is fantastic. The production plus the music and vocals are also top notch. Run To The Hills and the title track are fun, Hallowed Be Thy Name is spine chilling, and Children of the Damned, 22 Acacia Avenure, and Prisoner are awesome album cuts. What I like about Iron Maiden is that you don't have to be metal nut to enjoy them as their music is accessible to anyone who likes rock or heavy music. They also write plenty of songs about History and Literature which is a massive bonus.

This band doesn't know how not to fuckin rock

CLASSIC. 🤘. LONG LIVE HEAVY METAL 👹😈

As far as I understand this albums is seen as the best Iron Maiden album - I would agree with this, although they have made a whole string of 5* albums in the 80s - this might be the best heavy metal album ever..

Lo más.

Metal, love this, sounds great and makes me feel good. Favourite - The Prisoner + Hallowed by thy name.

Woe to you, oh earth and sea For the Devil sends the beast with wrath Because he knows the time is short Let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the beast For it is a human number Its number is six hundred and sixty-six

Banging

An album of fucking bangers. Maiden is a great hard rock band kind of disguised as a novelty act.

Awesome!

thank god they had Bruce

Awesome metal album! Long live Bruce Dickinson!

These boys really are the cat's pajamas

You just can't to wrong. Beating drums, heavy rifts and pure energy in the vocals. Just amazing

Dumb fun metal music. Emphasis on fun.

Great band, great album

Woe to you, oh earth and sea, for Maiden sent this beast with rock!

02/12/22 Fucking awesome. Absolute 5-stars from start to finish. Loved this album!

Powerful

Klassiker :D

HAIL SATAN

I should have checked this out earlier in my life. Best track: Hallowed Be Thy Name

Probably more of a 4.25 album, but it gets bonus points for MAIDEN! and then I round it up.

Iron Maiden!!

Awesome

Had this album years ago and it was in heavy rotation along with Motley Crue. Still holds up

Already heard this album, very good. No bad songs on this one!

Not my personal favorite Maiden album, but it is certainly a beast (pun intended) and it's number is 5. Up the irons.

The number of the beast è spettacolare, brividi e una carica pazzesca. 5 stelle, facile.

-Pretty slick riff in-between lines in the chorus in "Invaders" -Great drum intro on "Gangland" -"Children of the Damned," "22 Acacia Avenue," and "Hallowed Be Thy Name" are absolute bangers -"The Number of the Beast" and "Run to the Hills" are probably up there in my favorite tracks of all time. Truly incredible songs. Incredible storytelling, intensity, and raw power -Obvioualy the riffs and singing are legendary, but the drumming is incredible, especially on "Run to the Hills" and the reverse cymbals to end "Hallowed Be Thy Name" if I remember correctly. Also the bass is quite strong and has some great riffs, especially for a metal album

Such a solid and highly influential metal album. There's a reason why critics, metalheads, and even general music fans call this one of the greatest metal albums of all time. If I did have to criticise something, I'd agree that Gangland isn't as well written as most the other tracks on there (thankfully it's right before Hallowed Be Thy Name which is phenomenal)

Bringing back that rock and roll!!

First time listening to Iron Maiden. I was surprised. I liked almost every track. I might listen to more albums.

This album was awesome. Super great guitar parts and super creative songs and vocals. Incredibly iconic.

This was a really good album. I had never listened to the full album before, but after this listen I can safely say I would listen to this album again and again.

Classic.

Hi ha clàssics i clàssics.

Invaders, title track, Run to the Hills, Hallowed Be Thy Name. good shit! Another one I've heard of for decades but never put on.

a timeless classic of heavy rock/metal. didn't need to listen to it as i already love it, but enjoyed listening anyway :) hallowed be thy name is one of the best heavy rock songs of all time

Love this….. the maiden in their heyday! Rocking it!!

Best album de Maiden et top métal 5/5

it's not really my music, but I really enjoyed this album!

This a quintessential metal album that everybody needs to hear. Great stuff from start to finish.

Great old-school metal, this album is a classic. Run to the Hills is such a perfect song and this album is filled with great tunes. It's Metal but it's got a real craftsmanship to how it's all put together.

MAIDEN!

666!!! THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST!!! One of my all-time favorite metal albums, so badass

I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this particularly but it was awesome. Was considering 5 stars but the last track tipped it over the edge. Used on Jamie Thomas’ section on Toy Machine - Welcome to Hell. 🤘😝

This one shreds! Great metal without trying too hard and still great music. And every song hits! Incredible album. Hallowed, Run to the Hills, and Prisoner were standouts, but zero skips. Immediately listened a second time.

What an album. Hallowed by thy name is such a legendary song.

This one of the true classic metal albums, top 5 of all time to be sure. Bruce Dickinson's voice is amazing, with a range few can match. The sound is intense but the musicianship is undeniable. Fave songs: Children of the Damned, Run to the Hills, Hallowed Be Thy Name

Sorry but I cannot be objective about ONE OF THE GREATEST ALBUMS OF THE GREATEST HEAVY METAL BAND OF ALL TIME!!!!

New favorite

I really like Iron Maiden. Interesting that the Powerslave Album wasn't picked for this, since it is the more common choice I guess. Anyways, up the Irons!

A classic and one I own. good to listen again

One of the best rock albums ever, not surprised it's on the list and a regular listen for me since I was really young!

Love it

Need I say more?

What can I say? It's Number of the goddamn Beast by Iron fucking Maiden. Five stars, and I'd give it another five if I could!

muahahahahahaha oh hell yea. gosh the bass line on Invaders is just everywhere. Goddamn even two songs in you can tell this is one of the best black metal albums ever made. Number Of The Beast still kicks the most ass.

Back to old times

Excellent! So muhc energy on the track

Classic

Perfect rock album.

Run to the Hills is the best metal vocal ever.

Absolute banger of an album. One of the greatest from Iron Maiden for sure

one of the best ever made

Classic album

klockers, första albumet med bruce.

Holy shit. Should I be scared? (asked before listening) I like this. I judged them too hard. (I am in song 3) I love this. Hardcore. Will listen again.

Listened before?: only Number of the Beast Invaders - 3/5 Children of the Damned - 5/5 The Prisoner - 4/5 22, Acacia Avenue - 4/5 The Number of the Beast - 5/5 Run to the Hills - 5/5 Gangland - 3/5 Hallowed Be Thy Name - 5/5 Average score: 4.3/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

now this is why i signed up for this. to find incredible stuff like this. dam near driven to tears by children of the damned.

Riffs on riffs on riffs

10/10 air guitar moments throughout

Some good Ole fashioned head banging. Dio still takes the top spot for that for me but these guys do well with the guitar riffs and vocals. Worth a listen.

7.5/10 - Not super into the singers voice but god damn the instrumentals are fire and I can really appreciate how good a lot of the songs are despite not liking his voice.

Hell Yeah (3.5/5.0) Need to experience Iron Maiden Live. I love them sing moments. Them Vocals go so hard!!!

So I'm not the quintessential Maiden fan, but c'mon, this is like the definition of what metal is supposed to be. And it's not perfection, but it's pretty freaking great.

Probably a 3.5. In the current day this sounds very tame, but I'm sure it was heavy for its time - and there are certainly some punchy riffs in the album. The singer reminds me of Rush's Geddy Lee, in that the higher pitched operatic vocals just don't match the rest of the music in a way I can't get past. But the music itself is more captivating than Rush.

It's a four

Ignored them in my early years, but wow, powerful heavy metal with crisp twin guitars and strong vocals. Everything hits hard and direct.

Great riffs - nice themes of the songs - and a consistent sound. The song sequence of Number of the beast and Run to the hills is EPIC. 2 classic songs, so close to each other. Also sounds pretty damn well produced.

I like the production a lot, i just cant wrap my head around how these rock goons get their mixes so clear

Listened previously. Expectations: High - Verdict: Near Perfect - It's been a while since I listened to this, or any Bruce-era Maiden. Wow, it is incredible straight out of the gate. Invaders comes bursting from the speakers while Children Of The Damned shows the operatic abilities of Dickinson for the first time. 22 Acacia Avenue is incredible, so is the title track. Run To The Hills is obviously a classic. Hallowed Be Thy Name might be the band's high water mark and is a towering peak of heavy metal as a whole. Stunner of a record.

SIX SIX SIX THE NUMBER OF THE BEASTTT

Super!

I am not a big metalhead, but even I have to acknowledge the legacy and talent of Iron Maiden

lowk this my first time listening to iron maiden. dude what the flip guitars got me tweakin. I love ts.

Good stuff, even if I often shy away from vocals in this range.

felt like one of the bullies from It listening to this, 3.5 stars

I've had a great week with random album draws. This is one of my favorite Maiden albums, it's one of their best definitely but they have much better. I'm kinda leaning more towards 4 stars for this one

not as good as Joni Mitchell’s Blue

I love “Hallowed Be Thy Name”. I could just leave it at that… There are a few other excellent examples of the genre here and, though it isn’t my favourite genre, I appreciate that the energy and technicality of this is underpinned by excellent melodies and riffs.

Gerai prasiklausė.

Was aware of this band but none of the songs were familiar. I liked it, high energy, driving force guitars, drums, vocals. 4 stars

i dont quite like the stereotypical metal/rock genre of the 80s with the big hair and electric guitars so this will be interesting !! (or i guess its called heavy metal? no thanks !! gimme some doom metal) yeah it was pretty good, nothing special and nothing id put on again. i dont really liek heavy metal but some songs were really good. i loved the guitar riff, it was lit. especailyl in Hallowed By Thy Name like WOAH awesome. i liked the tune of Run to the Hills but not so much the lyrics, which i think is the first time ive ever said that. its just kinda like ok alright sure??

1. Hallowed Be Thy Name 2. Children of the Damned 3. Run for the Hills

Oh no, not another 80s heavy metal band! I can admit that I was too hasty to judge this album. I was expecting horrific themes, as with the AC/DC that I just listened to a couple weeks ago. I was very pleasantly surprised. The singing and the music is, in my opinion, better than what I heard with the last heavy metal album, and the themes were so much better. Songs critical of European colonialism? Yesssssss. I was not familiar with Iron Maiden, really, but now I understand why Bill and Ted were so hyped at the mention of their name. I enjoyed this one!

I completely missed the NWOBHM bands during their heyday for various reasons, but mostly because they weren't my thing. They still aren't, but this is great. While I knew "Run to the Hills" of course, I didn't really know the other songs, and I was shocked by how much I liked them, particularly "Hallowed Be Thy Name," "22 Acacia Avenue," "The Number of the Beast," and "Invaders." I'll definitely come back ot this. 4.5 stars.

There were about 15 minutes somewhere in the mid-80s where, for me, Iron Maiden were just about the greatest band on earth. I didn't appreciate at the time just how fresh and influential their sound really was - the New Wave of British Heavy Metal tag meant nothing to me - I just assumed they were tired old rockers who'd been doing this for years. Listening now, it's great to appreciate the influence they've had. The musicianship and vocal performances are pretty phenomenal really - and the tunes really do grab hold of you. This record is a quantum leap from their previous efforts - Bruce Dickinson made them what they are. They're a bit of a guilty pleasure these days - I'll give them a blast once in a while, just for fun and they always scratch that itch. Best not to listen to the lyrics too closely though.

Well its utterly daft. It's also hard not to have a Beavis and Butthead reaction to most of it. Title track and Run to the Hills are magnificent doses of metal. Worthy of being on the list. Now where's my denim jacket...?

Iron Maiden! Excellent music. Laid the ground for heavy metal going forward. Love this.

Not a huge metal fan, but I see the appeal.

Rock and roll

hard (als metaal)

Finally some good food

Can’t really fault Di’Anno era Maiden, its just solid and one of the rare metals i can actually get down with. Standouts are Children of the Damned, 22 Acacia Avenue, Number of the Beast and Hallowed be thy name.

Not a metalhead but this doesn't do any of the things I typically bounce of and is so fun. Have to hand it to them

I like this guy's voice. I like this music. It sounds like it could be from a rock musical. Also, now I know where Jack Black gets his inspiration and material from.

Iron Maiden has been a band name that I've known for years. I had heard a few songs of theirs, but never really gave any of their albums a full listen until this one. Really liked it, I don't know how I managed to avoid them when I had an 80s music phase.

Fun metal album, easy to listen to and enjoy.

God, heavy metal. 4/5

Iron Maiden on a Friday? Yes. Fucking. Please. Great album, love the long buildups and guitar payoffs

First time listening to the songs I know from it in their album context. Overall really great meddl

I loved Iron Maiden when I was a teenager but I very rarely listen to them nowadays. At the time, this wasn't really one of my favourite albums because whilst there are undeniable classics, there are a few songs that don't meet the same heights There's nothing bad, but there's a clear gap between the likes of Hallowed Be Thy Name or The Number of the Beast and Gangland or Total Eclipse I'll give it a 4 though because there are still plenty of classics that it doesn't deserve any less Also, watch The Bone Temple for that one scene Highlights:

Its corny metal music, but its great aswell! Bruce Dickenson's vocals gets annoying at times! Apart from that its good stuff!

A classic has some bangers it that I’ve had a privilege to see live and sing my lungs out to The prisoner 22 Hallowed Some highlights of mine

Exhilaratingly stupid hard rock full of wailing dramatic vocals, harmonized guitar parts, power riffing, and driving bass. 🤘

Enjoyable but I don't get any particular drive out of it. Presumably great because it was a pioneering project for hard rock.

4 Not huge into metal but this was pretty good,

A much stronger second half, but nobody does what Maiden does quite like Maiden. If you took their combined body of work, it’d certainly have a diminishing effect. Taken on it’s own, however, Number of the Beast is clearly one of their greatest efforts, if not THE greatest.

Favorite track(s): Children of the Damned, 22, Acacia Avenue, The Number of the Beast, Run to the Hills Heard before Previous rating: 7/10

When you know that your time is close at hand Maybe then you'll begin to understand Life down here is just a strange illusion

Again I really enjoyed this. I never thought I would become an Iron Maiden fan but it’s becoming hard to deny, how embarrassing.

I like the number of these in my teen years. I’m tossing out a four for the genre.

My first Maiden album and it was great!

Banger. Incredible voice and a fun album.

Sweet as metal, can't wait to dig in more on future listens!

It was very good

First time hearing this band. Had I given them a listen when this came out I probably would have been hooked.

This one is tough for me to grade. Knowing Iron Maiden's full discography, and then trying to compare this to all other music (how do you compare to Simon & Garfunkel???), is tough. I'm not a huge fan of this album compared to others by Iron Maiden. I feel like this was their jump off point with a new vocalist and principle lyricist, however it wasn't all there yet like their following albums. That said, it's better than 90% of other music out there, and Run to the Hills is one of the greatest metal songs of all time.

Great fun. Really consistent from start to finish. All the epic camp drama that I associate iron Maiden with. Some nice long pieces with lots of development and interest. I'm not crazy about their guitar tones - the rhythm tones are a bit buzzy and the leads feel a bit cheesy. But I will return to this a lot.

start to finish fun, Side b is bangers only

i like how the guitar meshes with the vocal on 22 acacia avenue also the solo is sick what the hell this is also my first time listening to a classic sorta heavy metal album and lowkey i dont know why i didn't before this is sick. all of these solos are sick come to think of it, i reallly am mad at myself for never getting into this sooner. 8/10 pretty good

Hell yes. Essential listening.

I like it, oon käyny keikalki 2025

Classic 80s metal!

I prefer their original vocalist over Bruce Dickinson's operatic wails but there's no denying the majestic shredding on this one. "The Number of the Beast" and "Run to the Hills" are a fantastic 1-2 punch but the whole thing is a glorious specimen of 80's metal. And, come on, the album cover is one of the best things ever.

The operatic vocals of Bruce Dickinson really seems to have been the missing piece that Iron Maiden needed. Number of the Beast into Run For The Hills is elite, but pretty much everything on this record is a headbanging good time

I was an Iron Maiden maiden until today - never listened to an Iron Maiden album all the way through before now. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. A bit of an onslaught, but that's a feature, not a bug. Fun stuff.

Huge childhood album for me. Might be Maiden's most consistently good album, only one weaker track in the bunch (22 Acacia Avenue), but doesn't reach their best heights. Clive Burr on fire here.

Solid album with bunch of classics. The first two songs didn't hit me that hard but from there on the album was golden. Not quite 5 star material but definitely solid 4.

Godddd… I wish I could play guitar like that. I also wish I could sing like that although it makes me giggle sometimes. I’ve always been meaning to listen to Iron Maiden more so it was nice this came up. Great album, great sound. Incredible musicians.

okay this one I liked. everyone should watch 28 years later: the bone temple

Behold, the metal. 4/5

Pretty spectacular. It was cool to learn how out there a project like this was when it was released, providing a greater appreciation than simply listening to it with contemporary ears. This is stacked, despite only being eight tracks, making it a challenge to pick favorites. A project that is difficult to poke holes in, holds up impressively, and seriously pushed for top marks. 2 listens Favorite Tracks: Hallowed Be Thy Name, The Prisoner, Run to the Hills, Children of the Damned

The bands first with Bruce Dickinson, and oh boy is it a killer. This is the record that made the band who they are and started to cement themselves as heavy metal royalty. Oddly here, the second half of the album is much stronger than the first, with three of the last four tracks being Maiden classics. It's not my favorite record of theirs but its still a very solid listen today.

After the release of Killers in 1981, a new singer was being hunted for by Iron Maiden as Paul Di'Anno was becoming too much of a burden for the band to handle. In their search of a new singer, they stumbled upon Bruce Dickerson and I don't think it could have been a better decision to let him take over the mantle as the lead of the band. His voice and presence is so much more defined and powerful than Paul's ever was and he truly makes himself into this beast behind the microphone that I don't think anyone else is capable of doing. His vocals are part Hair Rock and theatrics and yet it works for how heavy and kick ass this album is. This project is a great time from front to back and serves as a much needed change for the band that would completely alter their trajectory forever making them into Metal legends. I'll definitely have to check out some more Iron Maiden in the future, but for now this was pretty sick.

Invaders - 4/5 Children of the Damned - 4/5 The Prisoner - 4/5 22, Acacia Avenue - 3/5 The Number of the Beast - 4/5 Run to the Hills - 5/5 Gangland - 3.5/5 Hallowed Be Thy Name - 4/5 Some pretty good heavy metal stuff. I had only known them through "Run to the Hills" so it's nice to know that their sound really doesn't change from song to song. Good music to turn your brain off and listen to because surely the lyrics are amazing, right? Overall: 4/5 Favorites: Run to the Hills

My high school was very highly into the canon, and along with "Uncle Ted" Nugent (who since has gone crazy), Van Halen, Judas Priest, Motley Crue and Ozzy, this Iron Maiden album absolutely got a ton of recognition. I think the music videos really helped. "Run to the Hills" is banging!

When I'm mowing the lawn, I'll often listen to Iron Maiden. I appreciate the technical precision of the music as well as Bruce Dickinson's operatic voice. In high school, I wasn't into Iron Maiden, that was the purview of the waistoid headbangers who seemed permanently concussed from said head banging. Also, in high school, in history class, another student brought in lyrics to "Alexander the Great" (not on this record), and the history teacher was impressed. In college, I met the guy who would become one of my best friends...he was wearing an Iron Maiden hat and Metal Church t-shirt. What does any of this have to do with this record? Everything (to me) and nothing (to you). Iron Maiden was a great band with well thought out music and lyrics.

I was surprised how much I liked their debut album and this builds on this with the addition of Bruce D's vocals - which are a little overwrought at times but powerful and clear. Musically they are getting a little heavier / quicker - but still in the Black Sabbath school of metal which I like. Lyrically its pretty school boy but not offensive (unlike the dogshite Korn record).

Honestly better than I expected, surprised with where the melodies went, didn't focus much on the lyrics, I get it why it's a classic

A delicious and hearty corn chowder

This album rocks.

It's easy for metal to sound like noise. But this album manages to blend the heavy sound, compelling vocals, and harmony.

Favs are run for the hills, number of the beast, and hallowed be thy name

Dudes will listen to this and say "Hell yeah" I'm dudes

somewhat formulaic and any innovation it may have had is lost to me overtime but its a very consistent and fun album

Fuck yeah.

Iron Maiden knows how to do metal. This album is just packed with great sound and quality music.

Favorite Track: The Prisoner Least Favorite Track: 22 Acacia Avenue

a great entrance to the metal genre, its basic but a classic nonetheless.

Run for the hills and run for your life. We ain't beating the satanic panic allegations with this one. I like it. It rocks and shakes you to your core. The drums are a highlight in a world where the guitars overpower the song sometimes too much. It is awesome to hear the drummer keep the beat and add flair. The kick drum on the downstrums just hit so hardddddd. Hallowed be thy name is such an amazing journey and end and my favorite. I am gonna think more about this. I thought about it this is now written in the morning and wow it’s so punchy and metal is so thrashy I love this music so much it’s the original electronic

It’s fun.

In my 'Old Man Music' era.

666 / 777 Feel the drums pounding satans breath on my neck the power beneath me rattles through the mist no time for terror to terrify is nigh the devils whip driven by my eye

A good metal album with energy and enjoyable song structure.

+1 for Run to the hills. Not my favourite genre but very good. Fantastic vocal performance.

no frills, no gimmicks, just some absolute killer licks and a great rock album.

Really technical and very impressive musically. Not quite my normal taste in music but I had fun listening to it.

Some absolutely brilliant songs in this album.

The epitome of "don't mess with a working formula". I could not for the life of me distinguish between this and Self-Titled, and was even ready to give it a 3 for that reason. Then the riffs spoke to me. And then they just kept coming! I can't hate on riffs this good!! Standouts: Children Of The Damned • The Prisoner • 22 Acacia Avenue • Run To The Hills • Hallowed Be Thy Name

Loving metal

Excellent Album

I bet Mateen rated this a five. Such a Mateen album. But of the Mateen music, this is works for me.

NOt a bad album.

Really surprised how much I liked this.

If you want to listen to overly dramatic opera rock/metal here you go! Swing by Queensryche on your way out.... Seriously though it's a solid album The Number of the Beast was so good at pissing off our parents and other assorted old folks/the religious, it was on repeat from Spring to Fall on Sundays. Just play it and drive past a church. They thought we were serious and it was kids being dumbasses and laughing. I enjoy Maiden even if they aren't my go to 80's metal, great musicians, silly lyrics that don't hold up but it's rock not all songs need to be serious. Good times, fun listen.

Just amazing, Rock on

Peak Maiden!!!! Is a 4.

The two year old started dancing frantically to this while saying “I don’t like this music! I don’t like this music!”. No escaping the number of the beast

A couple gems
